Pennsylvania Internship Report
The internship started off in the month of September with my reading of Pennsylvania: A History of
the Commonwealth written by Randall Miller and William Pencak. This book gave me a
background in the history of Pennsylvania, from early Native Americans through the twentieth
century. In addition, it discussed the many approaches of historiography taken toward the subject,
thereby exposing me to many options. In the month of October, I was allowed to research any topic
that I was considering to choose as the focus of my internship's project. The topics I considered were
John Dickinson's arguments during the American Revolutionary era by studying his Letters, the
debates about the Constitution that took place over Pennsylvania's ratification of it during the
Pennsylvania Ratifying Convention, Thomas Paine and the impact of Philadelphia on him to
produce Common Sense and also any impact he had on the city, the work of Benjamin Rush and
Benjamin Franklin Bache as viewed from his newspaper (of course, this was the topic I ended up
choosing). In the month of November, I concentrated on my chosen topic, and researched many
sources, both primary and secondary. Much of that time was spent reading eight years of Aurora
(which was printed 6 days a week) on microfilm. Finally, by December, I was in the final stage of
research and was delving into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was nice to have the autonomy of choosing what time of day I put in my required hours. Outside
of the time digitizing with Preservation (which was also scheduled–well), I could put in my research
hours anytime I wished – morning, day or night. It was certainly good to meet every two weeks with
Professor Jones in order to update him on my progress and receive any help I wished. He was also
available to meet more frequently during the end of the semester, when communicating often was
important. He was excellent in his assistance and guidance through his availability and

The Florida Museum Of Natural History
The Florida Museum of Natural History is a government–sponsored museum that is incorporated
into the University of Florida in the city of Gainesville. The museum was established by Frank
Pickel, a professor of natural science at the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City, and was
dedicated to understanding, preserving, and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage.
The state of Florida formally assumed ownership of the museum in 1917 and established it as part of
the state university system. The purpose of the museum is set by Florida State Statue 1004.56 and
requires the museum "to collect and maintain a depository of biological, archaeological, and
ethnographic specimens and materials in sufficient numbers and quantities to provide within the
state and region a base for research on the variety, evolution, and conservation of wild species; the
composition, distribution, importance, and functioning of natural ecosystems; and the distribution of
prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and an understanding of the aboriginal and early
European cultures that occupied them." The major weaknesses of the museum are in the absences of
interactive educational displays, adjuncts for the states educational system, and the inability to reach
the vast majority of its target audience. The collection policy and mission statements require the
museum to provide statewide access of sufficient biological specimens for education and research.
The current museum has

Merits of Digitization:
The advantages of digital switchover which emanated from the huge potentials inherent in digital

the optimum use of the citizens. Meaning that, they must be used positively and productively for the
interest of the society and not negatively as tools for the destruction of humanity through spreading

Synthesis Work and Worker in 21 Century
Dương Vũ Đức Phạm Thanh Hà Composition 2 4 November 2014 Optimism & Pessimism in the
changes of American Workforce: Reason? Considering how long the humanity has been in
existence, Finding Jobs is a extremely difficult concept. There are many arguments about how to
find and keep a job in today's world and ways to make it more practical. In "The Untouchables",
author Thomas L.Friedman discusses how the American fungible and non–fungible jobs are affected
by the Globalization. In Hudson Institute's article "Work and Workers in the Twenty–First Century",
their analysts show their opinions about the current trend of jobs in the near future and envision it in
the next twenty–plus years. In both articles the authors discuss the topics of ... Show more content

Second, both author discuss what is the effect in the changes of job because of outsoucing.
According to Friedman, some jobs are lost to the outsource (some to China, some to India), he said
"Not only does my work have to fit into somebody's global supply chain, but i myself have to
understand how I need to compete and have skills sets required to work at pace that fits the supply
chain and I had better be able to do that as well or better than anyone else in this world". Hudson
Analysts show that 20% of U.S manufacturing workers now have jobs that depend on exports. So
the workers will not only compete with their counterparts across town or in other parts of the U.S,
but also with workers around the globe. Then Employment growth, meanwhile, will remain
concentrated in services, which also will benefit increasingly from export markets and will offer
high salaries for skilled workers. And For those who maintain and improve their skills, the changes
should bring increasing rewards, but it will be traumatic for those who fall behind the skills curve
and resist retraining. Last, the changing is affected by some other aspect such as Ages, Ethnic
Diversification and Digitizing. Thomas L. Friedman said that most jobs in U.S now is outsourced by
automated and digitized. And Hudson show that the growth of Asian and Hispanic

The Impact Of Technology On Education
The contemporary world prides itself on being more technologically advanced than any other

The United Kingdom has not been left behind too. At the Open University, they pioneered the use of
Internet in learning. The tread fast spread and was used predominantly in the University of British
Columbia. The process entails the use of the internet to offer long distance learning and the use of
internet discussions (Rhonda et al., 2016).
Canada is another country that has embraced the use of digital learning. There is an average of over
10, 000 learning processes and discussion that occur between students in Canada and the United
States of America. This includes the use of video conferences, social media interactions, and emails
(Rhonda et al., 2016).
The biggest advantage that has come with the use of technology in learning is the expansion in the
availability of the learning resources. The use of the media platform has opened up the millions of
resources that are found online to the students. This is a great contrast to the past where students
were constrained only to the books availed on the classroom and the library. The use of digital
learning has enabled the availability of many other books. It has also enabled the availability of
other sources such as websites and blogs. In fact, digital learning enables a student to even consult
an expert in person through the internet (Selwyn, 2011).

Personal Statement Essay: My Love For Art
As someone who enjoys doing various forms of arts and crafts, through my love for creating things
in particular, I found that by working wholeheartedly in every task I do, I find more and more of
myself in what I can achieve. Vincent Van Gogh's quote, "It is good to love many things, for therein
lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and
what is done in love is well done" has stuck to me ever since I read it.
Growing up I have always loved art, whether it be doodling, lettering, making graphics or taking
photos. Since grade 4, I have taught myself the inner workings of Adobe Photoshop, how to make
graphics and edit. Over the years, I have continuously honed myself to learn new things and expand
my knowledge about the art I was so interested in. I pursued this passion despite not even having my
own laptop, computer or a good DSLR camera at that time. Nonetheless, I took the opportunity to
use the iMac's we had in school to produce the best of what I can do, and enjoy my time using the
"nice" mediums even just for a few hours. In grade 6, I decided to join the Digital Arts club in
school because I just felt like it was where I belonged, and it was ... Show more content on

Improving the Records Management
Improving the Records Management
Implementation of Electronic Records Management Records management can be improved in many
ways. In my opinion, one of the ways is to implement the electronic records management. The
government should consider formulating policies, standards and practices, technical specifications
and training plans to enable its agencies including Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan to manage records in
electronic form. According to Arkib Negara Malaysia, The management of electronic records is not
a problem that needs to be solved. Its effective implementation in support of program/ service
delivery, decision–making, etc., should be viewed from the perspective of the extent to which it can
lead to cost savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction and opportunity gain. This means that electronic
records could give a lot of benefits to the government agencies. As stated by Arkib Negara Malaysia,
electronic records management could help the government agencies to reduce its costs. The
traditional records management practiced by Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan for example requires the
government to actually spend more money. This is because, if we're looking this issue from a
strategic view then it is undeniable that the implementation of electronic records management could
save costs. The existing system practiced by the government requires them to maintain all the
equipments and also hire personnel to supervise the files room. Furthermore, it contributes to the
increased usage

Cowbells: A Cultural Analysis
The intangible cultural heritage performance I chose, was Manufacture of Cowbells, that takes place
in Portugal. It was added to the list in 2015 for needing safeguarding. I chose this performance
because at first, I thought it would be some sort of song or dance that revolved around cowbells, but
I came to find out it is the literal manufacturing of cowbells by old masters. The name interested me
still and I am a big proposer of the phrase "more cowbell". The performance was not so much a
performance, as it was an art. The video consistent of showing the long and tedious process that the
masters go through to create the cowbell. They begin by hammering a piece of iron until it is in the
desired cowbell shape. Next, they add any decals or symbols created with copper or tin, and they
place them on the cowbell and quickly cover the entire cowbell in a mixture of clay and straw. The
entire thing is then put into an oven or heating area where it is fired. Immediately after firing, the
cowbell is rolled on the ground and plunged into water to cool it off. The remaining clay and straw
is then removed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel this way because even the remaining cowbell makers do not have apprentices and do not seem
to be giving any effort to keep the tradition alive. The digital archive may be helping this art form
however, because it makes it available for people worldwide to see, and may spark interest in
someone to take up cowbell making. Digitizing this performance benefits the performance because
it shows the world an art form that many people had most likely never seen. It also keeps the art
form alive forever, even if people stop making cowbells. The only disadvantage of putting it on the
Internet, would be that it could insult those who partake in the activity, and reduce some of the
magic and luster people get from seeing it in

Industrial Visit To Ross Stores Essay
My second industrial visit was to Ross Stores, Inc., which is an American chain for off–price
department store. It was first opened at Pacifica, California in 1950 by Morris Ross. It is the third
leading dress store in United States being T.J. Maxx & Marshalls are the first and second positions
in offering the retail off–price dress store industry both of which are owned by TJX companies. It
has a profit–making and attractive quote "Dress for Less" that makes the customers to visit the store
on their first sight. Store looks like well–maintained and has a good impression as a customer but in
case of technological and management issues it lacks beyond the satisfaction level. As it is a large
retail store, management becomes more complex. Supply chain management is considered a
significant strategy in retail stores. Management of accounts, employers, and supply chain is not an
easy task to handle in these type of large retail stores. Employee turnover is the major issue because
employees in the retail industries will never continue to work. It is usual complain from customers
that there is no good customer service. This is because of often changing employees. This issue can

During my visit, I was able to find variety of new collections of products in the store but it was not
well organized. Investing millions dollars of money on a particular product and selling it in a short
span of time is difficult, instead they can wait for the old stocks to get sold and after if there is any

Aboriginal Diversity
1. Outline the diversity of Indigenous Australian peoples (~250 words)
Indigenous Australian peoples are rich in cultural, linguistic, and historical diversity, which
highlight the impact of Indigenous communities on civilization and the knowledge traditions that
have been passed down from generation to generation. Indigenous Australians have cultural
diversity partly due to their inclusion of non–tribal members and crossing of geographical
boundaries in nation–states (Rumsey 1993). Rumsey's point about the overlap of territory and
sharing of languages is an example of the acceptance of diversity amongst tribes (Rumsey 1993).
Members did not have to stay within a bounded region nor marry co–members, but rather had the
freedom to mingle with other members of distinct tribes (Rumsey 1993). Language was not bound
to geographical locations nor kept away from non–members thereby allowing language to flourish
with diverse influences over time. Ecological and astronomical knowledge also add to the diversity
of Indigenous knowledge and cultural traditions because it was through the relationships with the
country that Indigenous peoples learned the information. The Indigenous worldview promotes a
world of kinship, connection, and mutual life giving which bred a people rich with diversity (Rose,
James and Watson, 2017).

The Health Information Technology
Great minds think alike, unfortunately no two are the same? It would be beneficial for all to put our
minds to the inevitable changes that the future holds, although change is difficult for most people.
The world is changing into a process that no one imagines, yet people want to achieve the finest for
an inexpensive cost. Envisioning what would happen in health information technology in five years
is stress–free, hence we live in a real world and achieving the finest and inexpensive cost are a
complex plan. It would take meticulous planning, knowledge and skills to accomplish this
progression and cost would be a factor, too. My chief focus is the administrative portion of the
health information technology and the role that I would play in the implementation of this system. I
would briefly examine what would have been if digitization was already in place 10 years ago.
Almost ten years ago, as a medical records coordinator, I implemented a system for tracking the
patients' 485s and physicians' orders at a home health agency. It was not an effortless task, but I
accomplished it. There were tremendous amount of boxes, papers, staples and clips to keep
documents together and to securely store it. Also, there were long hours of overtime in ensuring that
all documentations entered were accurate in the computer. Furthermore, original copies were neatly
filed in the binders with identical copies at the patients' houses. I was wishing that it would be faster

Modernizing a thriving dermatology practice with patient–centric processes and services demands
best–in–class technology that supports best practices throughout your organization. Selecting an
electronic medical record (EHR) with flexibility to personalize forms and generate reports based on
your needs is critical. Finding a best–fit EHR solution, one that is compatible with the unique needs
of dermatologists, will position your team to reach your financial and patient outcome goals. These
five tips will help you find a system that will grow with your practice and serve all stakeholders
well.
Tip One: Choose financial components wisely.
Dermatologists offer a broad array of products and services. Aestheticians and cosmeticians working
with primary physicians may offer spa treatments, electrolysis and laser hair removal services and
non–medical topical ointment. Billing features should include options for accepting coupons or

Need For Change Within The Nursing Practice
Need For Change Hirayda Garcia Watts
Thomas Edison State University
Introduction The IOM (Institute of Medicine) report discloses the fundamental reasons as to why
nurses' responsibilities, education, and roles should change to respond effectively to the health needs
presented by aging populations. It draws attention as well as responding to the evolving complex
health care system (Nickitas et al., 2010). The IOM report urges nurses to take a higher leadership
role within the nursing practice to prompt important changes in the health care system so that they
may be in a position to attend to the dynamic health care system. Relating the IOM structure and
guidelines to the topic at hand, there is a need to motivate change within the nursing practice to
advance to greater heights of the health care delivery system. Based on the current practice, clinical
documentation nurse, their primary duties are analyzing medical records for accuracy along with
quality to maintain charts, medical records, plus reports and solve issues involving the
documentation. They also manage clinical trial in addition to service documents. The change
required in this particular practice is digitizing of the documentation processes so that the whole
process may gain speed, minimize records misrepresentation as well as deletions. For that reason,
there is an urgent need for this digital transition, change in the documentation role so that patients'

BLENDED LEARNING
Blended learning combines online with face–to–face learning. The goal of blended learning is to
provide the most efficient and effective instruction experience by combining delivery modalities.
http://www.grayharriman.com/blended_learning.htm In blended learning environments it is common
for students to self–guide themselves through the curriculum. In this case, instructor can supervise
certain classes to make sure students stay on task.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
Collaborative learning is an educational method where two or more students work together to learn
something. It's based on the general premise that groups of students can learn more from each other
through sharing and social interaction than they would if they learned on their own.

What I Learned In Social Work
Whenever big projects were given to me, I had to work with at least three people who helped my
work temporarily for as long as six months. Mostly, I regarded them as being diligent and active,
and most of them deserved that. However, I have never given them A. I did not assume that they
were excellent, although some of them were superior no matter what I thought about them. My first
big project was to input electronic data in order to change the citizens' identification card. People
who lived in the area where I took responsibility for making new ID cards were around two million.
The ID card would contain several information: A finger print, an address, a portrait shot, a name–
including a Chinese letter of a name because Korean people use a Chinese character at their names–
and a social security number. This project had taken over six months to finish digitizing whole data.

One of them was a photograph major and his duty was to take people's pictures. The reason why I
hired him was that the central government wanted to input people's portrait shot on the spot even if
they did not bring it to the community service center–a village office–where I worked. The
photographer had confidence in his photograph technique, but his attitude was not good. He
frequently came to work late, and he occasionally made people feel uncomfortable. Eventually, I
argued with him over his attitude, and he did not come up on the following day after the dispute. I
had to meet him in order to persuade him to come back to work because I needed his technique. If I
read the book, "The Art of Possibility" at that time, I might react differently and I would encourage
him to focus more on his work or to change his attitude. I unfortunately did not know "giving an A"
practice, so I had a hard time working with him during the rest of

Mechanisms of Data Communication and Signals
Data communication refers to the transmission of electronic information over shared communication
mediums. This transmission can be generated from electronic sources such as computers, phones,
cameras and even audio sources such as speakers. Due to the various types of sources from which
data is derived, each source requires a mechanism that gathers and prepares the data for
transmission. This may include digitizing data, or encoding to ensure the privacy of the data during
transmission. This data is then passed along a communications channel to the destination, or
receiver, in the form of an analog or digital signal and mixed with other multiple pieces of data
through a shared channel. In order to avoid confusion, mechanisms must be in place that can
identify each source and ensure that the data sent from those sources arrive at the intended
destination and not become lost and confused with other data in the same channel. (Comer, 2014).
The propagation of data is accomplished by conducting energy in the form of electromagnetic waves
called signals. Depending on the source and the devices that operate in the communication channels,
analog and digital are the two types of signals transmitted to the receiver. Signals travel along
different types of media including copper wire, fiber optics, and space. (Cao, n.d.). Analog signals
can be found in audio sources including voices, telephones, and cameras. They are continuously
variable and potentially

The Atlanta Museum Of Art
On November 7, 1883, an exhibition organized by "May Wright Sewell, her husband Theodore, and
a small group of art–minded citizens" (History, 2017) began what would one day become the
establishment now known as the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Since that first exhibition, the IMA
has gone through several identity changes. They were first named, the Art Association of
Indianapolis. Their next identity was as the John Herron Art Institute, which opened a whole new
chapter, as they became "a campus featuring both a museum and an art school." (History, 2017)
Today, the IMA is one of the largest encyclopedic art museums in the nation. The IMA has had
various leadership and staff over the years that have lent to how the museum operates today. ...

Library and Archives
Many do not know that the IMA houses two different libraries. The Stout Reference Library and the
Horticultural Society Library provide numerous resources for their visitors, which mainly consist of
students, IMA Staff, docents, collectors, researchers and even members of the community. The Stout
Reference Library "focuses on the encyclopedia collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, while
also providing general information about art and art history of all periods." (Stout Reference Library,
2017) The Horticultural Society Library "houses more than 2,000 volumes, including general
reference books and books on landscaping, specific plant families and horticulture." (Horticultural
Society Library, 2017) I mention the libraries because this semester, I am technically considered a
library and archives intern at the IMA. My mentor however is the archivist, Samantha Norling. She
has done impressive work at the IMA in such a short time. She jump–started the Archives online
portal, which consists of thousands of digitized items from the archives. The IMA received a
"generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)" (Documenting Modern
Living, 2017), that allowed for 17,000 items from the Miller House and Garden archival collection
to be digitized.

The Game Of Life And I Ching Summary
When one considers the mechanics of The Game of Life and I Ching, we find similarities and
differences that leave us to question our level of engagement with the games and whether said level
affects our perceptions of what a game can be described as. What constitutes a game then? The
foundation of games, in this case The Game of Life and I Ching, is the system that the games take
place in. Like a computer, in the most rudimentary sense of the word, these games lie in a system of
input and output. For instance, In the Game of Life, the player selects initial settings (i.e. the initial
placement of dots), initiates the program, which then runs on a series of rules, and watches the
process begin. The Game of Life transforms input and output into birth and termination,
respectively, where termination of the program may result in destruction of the individual pixels, or
an unending cycle (a loop) where patterns are repeated without change. From this point, the player
has the option to force more input into the program by creating and deleting pixels. This results in a
change in the process, but not the program's rules. "Life" for the program continues with new input.
Even if the program reaches a cyclical loop, the player has the power to end the ... Show more

This game quantifies and digitizes life and death in a pixelized fashion–perhaps not illustrating the
complexities of human existence, but perhaps that of a simpler, single or multi–cell organism.
Organisms follows rules, procedures even, and exist in an ecosystem in which they are born and die.
Is this teaching players skills or solving real–world problems, as Bogost hoped? Not necessarily. It
does, however, demonstrate that digital procedures are not all that different from our own. The
existence of digital beings is not so different from our

Lyt2 Simple GetawaysOVERVIEW Due To Several Essay
Lyt2 – Simple Getaways
OVERVIEW
Due to several years of growth, Simple Getaways, Inc. (SGI) has expanded from a single California
office to twelve offices distributed throughout the western United States with approximately 270
employees. Methods of communication and data storage that are currently being used were adequate
for a single office but are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of Simple Getaways, Inc. This
proposal will address the requirements for file storage and management, collaborative
communication, information sharing within and between offices and the automation of
administrative workflow.
CHALLENGES AFFECTING KEY STAKEHOLDERS
The processes currently being used at Simple Getaways for communication and the ... Show more

The file being accessed should always be the most current version of the document within the
organization.
At present, each SGI office location stores its electronic files on a Windows server located at that
office. This makes accessing the files difficult for other offices. The goal is to make all SGI files
equally accessible to all SGI locations. When an employee wants to access a document, they
shouldn't need to worry about the location where the file is stored or have to involve other
employees in the process of obtaining the document.
Presently Simple Getaways uses paper–based workflow in order to process standard administrative
tasks, such as vacation requests, sick leave and employee records. The desired process involves this
workflow taking place electronically. Rather than filling out a paper forms and physically delivering
them to the appropriate party, computerized forms should be made available with the option to be
delivered immediately.
TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTION
There are a variety of hosted "cloud–based" services that can fulfil the document management and
communication needs of Simple Getaways. The recommendation for Simple Getaways is to use a
service called TeamLab Office. This service was chosen for its numerous features, ease of use, quick
implementation and reasonable pricing.
TeamLab Office will be used for document storage instead of the individual file servers located at
each

The image captured was clear, and with slight alterations with the contrast between the phantom and
the background the image was visible and to a high quality standard. The s–value used was 70,
ensuring the highest quality photo was taken, whilst ensuring the lowest possible dose to the patient.
The phantom was placed slightly towards the top of the image receptor however the hand was still
entirely visible in the final image.
I also believe I have gained an extensive knowledge and understanding on how the x–ray unit works
and the processes in taking an x–ray.
In the x–ray theatre enclosed shoes were worn at all times, we also stood behind lead lined glass
when taking the images to ensure the lowest unnecessary exposure to radiation. Along with this,
radiation signs were turned on above the doors outside whilst in the lab was in use alerting other
people using the rooms that radiation was in use. These safety procedures are extremely important in
the lab as we are exposed to large amounts of radiation during our time as radiographers.

Artificial Intelligence Bias
The last hundred years has seen incredible advances in what technology can do, and now influence
every part of our day. Many books and movies are built around a theme of the dangers of technology
becoming more intelligent than humans and turning against us, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, and
the Terminator franchise. But will artificial intelligence ever be advanced enough to turn against us?
Perhaps not as a robot; artificial intelligence is already being used to shape our actions, from what
we buy to who we vote for. Artificial intelligence learns from the data it is provided and finds
patterns and connections. Since this data is provided by us humans, it learns not only facts, but also
picks up our biases and prejudices. A publication from UMBC Professor Cynthia Matuszek shows

Strong Work Ethic Analysis
I grew up with a strong work ethic. My family was in the farming and dairy business, they worked
hard and saved, so I was taught to be frugal. I married young, out of high school. The marriage
didn't work and I was left with three children to support and raise. I did so by starting a cleaning
service, eventually it grew to the point I had six employees, however I did not have enough
education to know how to expand and make it really successful. Because I had sole responsibility of
raising a young family, I had no time to further my education and in those days, there were no online
courses. LOL, now I'm telling you my age. After the children were grown and moved away from

a frugal person and was never a wasteful. I concluded my problem must be the lack of higher
education so I feel led by our loving God to further my education and overcome this lack of finances
in my life. The thing that has really motivated me towards higher education again is my daughter in

Government Standard Development In Healthcare Essay
The complexity of the health care information system has provided different standards development
methods used to create health care IT standards. But the government mandate standard method is by
far, the best and most reliable standard method that will serve health care best. Why is the
government standard development method is the best choice?
First of all, the government mandated and initiated the promotion of the meaningful use of health
information technology with the enactment of HITECH Act. Thus, the government plays a vital role
in having established health care IT standards that will conform to its guidelines and policies. In
addition, having the government standards development method will ensure that strict enforcement
of guidelines and policies to the healthcare organizations and providers. Moreover, having the
government enforced the standard method guarantees that HCOs and providers comply to the safety
of the consumers. For example, the CMS standard for e–prescribing requires providers to the

of the IT system. For example, HIPAA EDI requires ASC X12N version 5010 as the only data

Salvador Dali is credited with having said, "I don't do drugs. I am drugs." Dali was not only a world

they feel as if their drug of choice has completely taken over their life, and they lose their identity.
Sometimes however, the drug addict does not think that losing themselves is bad thing, they see it as
them being in a better world mentally, than where they are physically in this world. So they do not
fight the identity loss, but they embrace it, for that is why they do the drugs, to escape. Dali used

Pennsylvania internship digital history report

  • 1. Pennsylvania Internship Report The internship started off in the month of September with my reading of Pennsylvania: A History of the Commonwealth written by Randall Miller and William Pencak. This book gave me a background in the history of Pennsylvania, from early Native Americans through the twentieth century. In addition, it discussed the many approaches of historiography taken toward the subject, thereby exposing me to many options. In the month of October, I was allowed to research any topic that I was considering to choose as the focus of my internship's project. The topics I considered were John Dickinson's arguments during the American Revolutionary era by studying his Letters, the debates about the Constitution that took place over Pennsylvania's ratification of it during the Pennsylvania Ratifying Convention, Thomas Paine and the impact of Philadelphia on him to produce Common Sense and also any impact he had on the city, the work of Benjamin Rush and Benjamin Franklin Bache as viewed from his newspaper (of course, this was the topic I ended up choosing). In the month of November, I concentrated on my chosen topic, and researched many sources, both primary and secondary. Much of that time was spent reading eight years of Aurora (which was printed 6 days a week) on microfilm. Finally, by December, I was in the final stage of research and was delving into ... Outside of the time digitizing with Preservation (which was also scheduled–well), I could put in my research hours anytime I wished – morning, day or night. It was certainly good to meet every two weeks with Professor Jones in order to update him on my progress and receive any help I wished. He was also available to meet more frequently during the end of the semester, when communicating often was important. He was excellent in his assistance and guidance through his availability and ... • 5. The Florida Museum Of Natural History The Florida Museum of Natural History is a government–sponsored museum that is incorporated into the University of Florida in the city of Gainesville. The museum was established by Frank Pickel, a professor of natural science at the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City, and was dedicated to understanding, preserving, and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. The state of Florida formally assumed ownership of the museum in 1917 and established it as part of the state university system. The purpose of the museum is set by Florida State Statue 1004.56 and requires the museum "to collect and maintain a depository of biological, archaeological, and ethnographic specimens and materials in sufficient numbers and quantities to provide within the state and region a base for research on the variety, evolution, and conservation of wild species; the composition, distribution, importance, and functioning of natural ecosystems; and the distribution of prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and an understanding of the aboriginal and early European cultures that occupied them." The major weaknesses of the museum are in the absences of interactive educational displays, adjuncts for the states educational system, and the inability to reach the vast majority of its target audience. The collection policy and mission statements require the museum to provide statewide access of sufficient biological specimens for education and research. The current museum has ... He said: ''the DSO is very important to this administration, because of the limitless potentials that it represents. • 17. Synthesis Work and Worker in 21 Century Dương Vũ Đức Phạm Thanh Hà Composition 2 4 November 2014 Optimism & Pessimism in the changes of American Workforce: Reason? Considering how long the humanity has been in existence, Finding Jobs is a extremely difficult concept. There are many arguments about how to find and keep a job in today's world and ways to make it more practical. In "The Untouchables", author Thomas L.Friedman discusses how the American fungible and non–fungible jobs are affected by the Globalization. In Hudson Institute's article "Work and Workers in the Twenty–First Century", their analysts show their opinions about the current trend of jobs in the near future and envision it in the next twenty–plus years. In both articles the authors discuss the topics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, both author discuss what is the effect in the changes of job because of outsoucing. According to Friedman, some jobs are lost to the outsource (some to China, some to India), he said "Not only does my work have to fit into somebody's global supply chain, but i myself have to understand how I need to compete and have skills sets required to work at pace that fits the supply chain and I had better be able to do that as well or better than anyone else in this world". Hudson Analysts show that 20% of U.S manufacturing workers now have jobs that depend on exports. So the workers will not only compete with their counterparts across town or in other parts of the U.S, but also with workers around the globe. Then Employment growth, meanwhile, will remain concentrated in services, which also will benefit increasingly from export markets and will offer high salaries for skilled workers. And For those who maintain and improve their skills, the changes should bring increasing rewards, but it will be traumatic for those who fall behind the skills curve and resist retraining. Last, the changing is affected by some other aspect such as Ages, Ethnic Diversification and Digitizing. Thomas L. Friedman said that most jobs in U.S now is outsourced by automated and digitized. • 21. The Impact Of Technology On Education The contemporary world prides itself on being more technologically advanced than any other recorded society in the history of humankind. One of the most prominent channels that technology has been able to assert its influence is in the digitization of every perspective of human life. Most of the human activities have adopted a technology; a move normally referred to as digitizing, in their operation. Education has not been left behind. There has been an incorporation of the digital process of learning at all levels of education. The process has a very large influence on the field of education today. The United Kingdom has not been left behind too. At the Open University, they pioneered the use of Internet in learning. The tread fast spread and was used predominantly in the University of British Columbia. The process entails the use of the internet to offer long distance learning and the use of internet discussions (Rhonda et al., 2016). Canada is another country that has embraced the use of digital learning. There is an average of over 10, 000 learning processes and discussion that occur between students in Canada and the United States of America. This includes the use of video conferences, social media interactions, and emails (Rhonda et al., 2016). The biggest advantage that has come with the use of technology in learning is the expansion in the availability of the learning resources. The use of the media platform has opened up the millions of resources that are found online to the students. This is a great contrast to the past where students were constrained only to the books availed on the classroom and the library. The use of digital learning has enabled the availability of many other books. It has also enabled the availability of other sources such as websites and blogs. In fact, digital learning enables a student to even consult an expert in person through the internet (Selwyn, 2011). Interaction and Collaboration Digital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Personal Statement Essay: My Love For Art As someone who enjoys doing various forms of arts and crafts, through my love for creating things in particular, I found that by working wholeheartedly in every task I do, I find more and more of myself in what I can achieve. Vincent Van Gogh's quote, "It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done" has stuck to me ever since I read it. Growing up I have always loved art, whether it be doodling, lettering, making graphics or taking photos. Since grade 4, I have taught myself the inner workings of Adobe Photoshop, how to make graphics and edit. Over the years, I have continuously honed myself to learn new things and expand my knowledge about the art I was so interested in. I pursued this passion despite not even having my own laptop, computer or a good DSLR camera at that time. Nonetheless, I took the opportunity to use the iMac's we had in school to produce the best of what I can do, and enjoy my time using the "nice" mediums even just for a few hours. In grade 6, I decided to join the Digital Arts club in school because I just felt like it was where I belonged, and it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Improving the Records Management Improving the Records Management Implementation of Electronic Records Management Records management can be improved in many ways. In my opinion, one of the ways is to implement the electronic records management. The government should consider formulating policies, standards and practices, technical specifications and training plans to enable its agencies including Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan to manage records in electronic form. According to Arkib Negara Malaysia, The management of electronic records is not a problem that needs to be solved. Its effective implementation in support of program/ service delivery, decision–making, etc., should be viewed from the perspective of the extent to which it can lead to cost savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction and opportunity gain. This means that electronic records could give a lot of benefits to the government agencies. As stated by Arkib Negara Malaysia, electronic records management could help the government agencies to reduce its costs. The traditional records management practiced by Mahkamah Negeri Sembilan for example requires the government to actually spend more money. This is because, if we're looking this issue from a strategic view then it is undeniable that the implementation of electronic records management could save costs. The existing system practiced by the government requires them to maintain all the equipments and also hire personnel to supervise the files room. Furthermore, it contributes to the increased usage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was added to the list in 2015 for needing safeguarding. I chose this performance because at first, I thought it would be some sort of song or dance that revolved around cowbells, but I came to find out it is the literal manufacturing of cowbells by old masters. The name interested me still and I am a big proposer of the phrase "more cowbell". The performance was not so much a performance, as it was an art. The video consistent of showing the long and tedious process that the masters go through to create the cowbell. They begin by hammering a piece of iron until it is in the desired cowbell shape. Next, they add any decals or symbols created with copper or tin, and they place them on the cowbell and quickly cover the entire cowbell in a mixture of clay and straw. The entire thing is then put into an oven or heating area where it is fired. Immediately after firing, the cowbell is rolled on the ground and plunged into water to cool it off. Digitizing this performance benefits the performance because it shows the world an art form that many people had most likely never seen. It also keeps the art form alive forever, even if people stop making cowbells. • 37. Industrial Visit To Ross Stores Essay My second industrial visit was to Ross Stores, Inc., which is an American chain for off–price department store. It was first opened at Pacifica, California in 1950 by Morris Ross. It is the third leading dress store in United States being T.J. Maxx & Marshalls are the first and second positions in offering the retail off–price dress store industry both of which are owned by TJX companies. It has a profit–making and attractive quote "Dress for Less" that makes the customers to visit the store on their first sight. Store looks like well–maintained and has a good impression as a customer but in case of technological and management issues it lacks beyond the satisfaction level. As it is a large retail store, management becomes more complex. Supply chain management is considered a significant strategy in retail stores. Management of accounts, employers, and supply chain is not an easy task to handle in these type of large retail stores. Employee turnover is the major issue because employees in the retail industries will never continue to work. It is usual complain from customers that there is no good customer service. This is because of often changing employees. This issue can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large retailers like Ross have a common problem of lacking diversity. • 41. Aboriginal Diversity 1. Outline the diversity of Indigenous Australian peoples (~250 words) Indigenous Australian peoples are rich in cultural, linguistic, and historical diversity, which highlight the impact of Indigenous communities on civilization and the knowledge traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. Indigenous Australians have cultural diversity partly due to their inclusion of non–tribal members and crossing of geographical boundaries in nation–states (Rumsey 1993). Rumsey's point about the overlap of territory and sharing of languages is an example of the acceptance of diversity amongst tribes (Rumsey 1993). Members did not have to stay within a bounded region nor marry co–members, but rather had the freedom to mingle with other members of distinct tribes (Rumsey 1993). Language was not bound to geographical locations nor kept away from non–members thereby allowing language to flourish with diverse influences over time. Ecological and astronomical knowledge also add to the diversity of Indigenous knowledge and cultural traditions because it was through the relationships with the country that Indigenous peoples learned the information. The Indigenous worldview promotes a world of kinship, connection, and mutual life giving which bred a people rich with diversity (Rose, James and Watson, 2017). Rumsey, Alan. It would be beneficial for all to put our minds to the inevitable changes that the future holds, although change is difficult for most people. The world is changing into a process that no one imagines, yet people want to achieve the finest for an inexpensive cost. Envisioning what would happen in health information technology in five years is stress–free, hence we live in a real world and achieving the finest and inexpensive cost are a complex plan. It would take meticulous planning, knowledge and skills to accomplish this progression and cost would be a factor, too. My chief focus is the administrative portion of the health information technology and the role that I would play in the implementation of this system. I would briefly examine what would have been if digitization was already in place 10 years ago. Almost ten years ago, as a medical records coordinator, I implemented a system for tracking the patients' 485s and physicians' orders at a home health agency. It was not an effortless task, but I accomplished it. There were tremendous amount of boxes, papers, staples and clips to keep documents together and to securely store it. Also, there were long hours of overtime in ensuring that all documentations entered were accurate in the computer. Furthermore, original copies were neatly filed in the binders with identical copies at the patients' houses. I was wishing that it would be faster to just scan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. The Impact Of Technology On Education The contemporary world prides itself on being technologically advanced more than any other recorded society in the history of humankind. One of the most prominent channels that technology has been able to assert its influence is in the digitalization of every perspective of human life. Most of the human activities have adopted a technology; a move normally referred to as digitizing, in their operation. Education has not been left behind. There has been an incorporation of the digital process of learning at all level of education. The process has had a very large influence on the field of education today. Before the introduction of technology in education, learning was being done based on the old tried and tested ways. Learning was done strictly on books and person to person interaction. The teacher appeared in class in person and physically took the students through a step to step learning. This was accompanied by the use of pen and paper to take down the information that had been gained from the tutor (Garrison, 2003). The advent of technology altered this prior process. Technology introduced a digital way of learning that was different from the old means through which learning took place. Under the new paradigm of learning, there is little reliance on the physical presence of a tutor. Much of the learning occurs on line through the digital systems. Tutors are now able to send notes to their students through the online media platform without having to appear in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Need For Change Within The Nursing Practice Need For Change Hirayda Garcia Watts Thomas Edison State University Introduction The IOM (Institute of Medicine) report discloses the fundamental reasons as to why nurses' responsibilities, education, and roles should change to respond effectively to the health needs presented by aging populations. It draws attention as well as responding to the evolving complex health care system (Nickitas et al., 2010). The IOM report urges nurses to take a higher leadership role within the nursing practice to prompt important changes in the health care system so that they may be in a position to attend to the dynamic health care system. Mostly, I regarded them as being diligent and active, and most of them deserved that. However, I have never given them A. I did not assume that they were excellent, although some of them were superior no matter what I thought about them. My first big project was to input electronic data in order to change the citizens' identification card. People who lived in the area where I took responsibility for making new ID cards were around two million. The ID card would contain several information: A finger print, an address, a portrait shot, a name– including a Chinese letter of a name because Korean people use a Chinese character at their names– and a social security number. This project had taken over six months to finish digitizing whole data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of them was a photograph major and his duty was to take people's pictures. The photographer had confidence in his photograph technique, but his attitude was not good. He frequently came to work late, and he occasionally made people feel uncomfortable. Eventually, I argued with him over his attitude, and he did not come up on the following day after the dispute. I had to meet him in order to persuade him to come back to work because I needed his technique. • 95. Mechanisms of Data Communication and Signals Data communication refers to the transmission of electronic information over shared communication mediums. This transmission can be generated from electronic sources such as computers, phones, cameras and even audio sources such as speakers. Due to the various types of sources from which data is derived, each source requires a mechanism that gathers and prepares the data for transmission. This may include digitizing data, or encoding to ensure the privacy of the data during transmission. This data is then passed along a communications channel to the destination, or receiver, in the form of an analog or digital signal and mixed with other multiple pieces of data through a shared channel. In order to avoid confusion, mechanisms must be in place that can identify each source and ensure that the data sent from those sources arrive at the intended destination and not become lost and confused with other data in the same channel. (Comer, 2014). The propagation of data is accomplished by conducting energy in the form of electromagnetic waves called signals. Depending on the source and the devices that operate in the communication channels, analog and digital are the two types of signals transmitted to the receiver. Signals travel along different types of media including copper wire, fiber optics, and space. (Cao, n.d.). Analog signals can be found in audio sources including voices, telephones, and cameras. The Game Of Life And I Ching Summary When one considers the mechanics of The Game of Life and I Ching, we find similarities and differences that leave us to question our level of engagement with the games and whether said level affects our perceptions of what a game can be described as. What constitutes a game then? The foundation of games, in this case The Game of Life and I Ching, is the system that the games take place in. Like a computer, in the most rudimentary sense of the word, these games lie in a system of input and output. For instance, In the Game of Life, the player selects initial settings (i.e. the initial placement of dots), initiates the program, which then runs on a series of rules, and watches the process begin. The Game of Life transforms input and output into birth and termination, respectively, where termination of the program may result in destruction of the individual pixels, or an unending cycle (a loop) where patterns are repeated without change. From this point, the player has the option to force more input into the program by creating and deleting pixels. This results in a change in the process, but not the program's rules. Viewing this from an oblique angle, there is perspective in the sense that objects which are horizontally far away are seen smaller, like viewing a large photograph, not quite like a 3D view. For other parts of the surface of the Earth, 3D images of terrain and buildings are available. Google Earth uses digital elevation model (DEM) data collected by NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission(SRTM). This means one can view almost the entire earth in three dimensions. Since November 2006, the 3D views of many mountains, including Mount Everest, have been improved by the use of supplementary DEM data to fill the gaps in SRTM coverage. Many people use the applications to add their own data, making them available through various sources. Google Earth is able to show all kinds of images overlaid on the surface of the earth and is also a Web Map Service client. • 125. Artificial Intelligence Bias The last hundred years has seen incredible advances in what technology can do, and now influence every part of our day. Many books and movies are built around a theme of the dangers of technology becoming more intelligent than humans and turning against us, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the Terminator franchise. But will artificial intelligence ever be advanced enough to turn against us? Perhaps not as a robot; artificial intelligence is already being used to shape our actions, from what we buy to who we vote for. Artificial intelligence learns from the data it is provided and finds patterns and connections. Since this data is provided by us humans, it learns not only facts, but also picks up our biases and prejudices. A publication from UMBC Professor Cynthia Matuszek shows that ... She noticed that "YouTube started recommending to me and autoplaying to me white supremacist videos in increasing order of extremism. If I watched one, it served up one even more extreme and autoplayed that one, too....The algorithm has figured out that if you can entice people into thinking that you can show them something more hardcore, ... The design of the genome was based on two laboratory strains of M.mycoides. There were 19 polymorphic differences between the synthetic genome and the natural genome. They marked the synthetic genome with four watermark sequences to replace one or more cassettes in regions experimentally demonstrated or predicted to not interfere with cell viability. The designed cassettes were around 1080bp with 80bp overalls to adjacent cassettes and did not contain Not I restriction sites at termini to aid in the building process. A hierarchical strategy was used to assemble genome in three stages. In the first stage, cassettes and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 137. Strong Work Ethic Analysis I grew up with a strong work ethic. My family was in the farming and dairy business, they worked hard and saved, so I was taught to be frugal. I married young, out of high school. The marriage didn't work and I was left with three children to support and raise. I did so by starting a cleaning service, eventually it grew to the point I had six employees, however I did not have enough education to know how to expand and make it really successful. Because I had sole responsibility of raising a young family, I had no time to further my education and in those days, there were no online courses. LOL, now I'm telling you my age. After the children were grown and moved away from home, I decided to slow down and not work as hard as it had begun to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was really a disappointment and a waste of money as far as I was concerned. I went to work driving a school bus for a few years and really enjoyed this period of time in my life. I also worked at home digitizing but with the fall of the economy in 2008, that job suffered for a few years. I've said all of that to say I was barely getting by and I'm tired of this being the status of my life. I grew up being taught the Word of God and His principals, so why am I barely getting by in finances? I'm a frugal person and was never a wasteful. I concluded my problem must be the lack of higher education so I feel led by our loving God to further my education and overcome this lack of finances in my life. The thing that has really motivated me towards higher education again is my daughter in law. Her desire has always been to be a nurse, so as her children got older she went to college and got her degree. She is a very busy person and I watched her over the next four years tend her husband, family, and farm work as the children were in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Government Standard Development In Healthcare Essay The complexity of the health care information system has provided different standards development methods used to create health care IT standards. But the government mandate standard method is by far, the best and most reliable standard method that will serve health care best. Why is the government standard development method is the best choice? First of all, the government mandated and initiated the promotion of the meaningful use of health information technology with the enactment of HITECH Act. Enforcement of a set standard development method developed by the government eliminates conflicting standards that could affect the interoperability of the IT system. For example, HIPAA EDI requires ASC X12N version 5010 as the only data transmission protocol standard used for the transmission of data electronically (CMS, n.d.). Dali was not only a world famous artist known for painting, sculpting, and photography, for he was also a drug addict. Dali has bluntly described how he and other addicts feel while in the clutches of their addiction. It is said they feel as if their drug of choice has completely taken over their life, and they lose their identity. Sometimes however, the drug addict does not think that losing themselves is bad thing, they see it as them being in a better world mentally, than where they are physically in this world. So they do not fight the identity loss, but they embrace it, for that is why they do the drugs, to escape. Dali used drugs because he thought that they enhanced ... They want to feel as if they belong, so they have succumbed to peer pressure, so they do and act as the herd does.
