potential pitfalls, like increased screen time and the digital divide, requires careful analysis and
critical thinking.
Additionally, the landscape of educational technology is constantly evolving, with new tools
and approaches emerging regularly. Keeping abreast of the latest developments is crucial to
providing an up-to-date and relevant essay. Navigating through the plethora of scholarly articles,
case studies, and expert opinions demands both time and discernment.
Moreover, the essay should not only address the present state of technology in the classroom but
also anticipate future trends and their implications. Predicting the trajectory of educational
technology requires a foresight that is grounded in an understanding of both technological
advancements and the evolving needs of the educational landscape.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the topic of technology in the classroom demands a
comprehensive exploration of the subject, a critical evaluation of the current state, and a
forward-looking perspective. It requires a researcher to navigate a dynamic field, synthesize
diverse viewpoints, and present a well-informed and cohesive argument. Despite its challenges,
unraveling the complexities of technology's role in education is essential for fostering insightful
discussions and shaping the future of learning environments.

The Guillotine In The Tale Of Two Cities
17,00 to 40,000 lives were taken using the guillotine .At one point known as the glory

of punishment was the guillotine, since it was the most efficient way of silencing

authority figures generally used inhumane devices such as mannaia, in which the Dr.

Ultimately King Louis XVI had been executed; 9 months later Marie was
additionally executed by the guillotine. Dr. Guillotin contrived a statement that it
would be a quick, painless death and that s what granted this machine to be passed
as the execution device. The guillotine is an implement that is also present in The
Tale of Two Cities. Throughout The Tale of Two Cities the use of the device acts
as an entertainment to groups of people. In a crowd if someone isn t killed, then
they re disappointed, but if they are then cheerfulness are brought upon the

The Patriot ( 2000 )
The Patriot (2000) follows Benjamin Martin (Francis Marion) a widower with 7
children and veteran of the French and Indian war. He is reluctant to join the fight
against the British until Colonel William Tavington (Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton)
kills Benjamin s son and burns down his house in South Carolina. Benjamin Martin
leads his militia and attacks against the British with guerilla warfare until the climax
battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel William. What is wrong
with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the British taxed
the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the
war through guerilla warfare, but that s one of the few things that are historically
accurate about the film. Important things that are historically accurate are the
ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in. Attacking head to head was not an
option because the British soldiers were obviously more powerful so the militia used
surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character Colonel William
Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton,
was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly
and evil because he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a
great job at showing how menacing Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was.
Nevertheless, the film was mostly inaccurate and could be considered an American

Foreign Direct Investment Into Pakistan
Title:
Causes of Foreign direct investment into Pakistan.
Aim and objectives:
The dissertation topic will focus on the importance of foreign direct investment into
Pakistan s Economy and will also focus around the causes of foreign direct
investment. The report will look into three different perspectives such as, the effects
on FDI pre and post 9/11, investment in different sectors of industry and the
importance of investing countries in terms of contributing towards developing
Pakistan s infrastructure or helping financially to fight the War against terror .
Moreover, the report also provides an insight to what can be done to improve the
inflow of FDI into Pakistan.
Background of Pakistan s economy and FDI: Since the independence in 1947 the
economy of Pakistan has emerged as a semi industrialized economy and is mainly
based on textile, agriculture and food production. The textile industry contributes
around 9% to the country s gross domestic product (khurram baig, 2013). However,
since the start of 2008 the country as a whole has struggled to gain the confidence of
many foreign and local investors due to instability and security concerns and the
country is struggling to gain back the confidence ever since. Although, after 2012 an
increase in the FDI was seen due to improvement in the tertiary sector, this was n
mainly due to an increase in spending power and confidence shown by the local
consumers (The World Bank).
Foreign direct investment refers to long term
Shovel As A Work Of Art
1. I disagree with the authors definition for work of art. The author states that their
thought on work of art has to be something made by a person. Nature such as trees
and insects are not works of art. I personally hold more of vague and open opinion
on my definition for work of art. I feel like nature and even the uncontrolled
movements caused by non humanare considered as art. My definition of work of art
would be something that can be seen or thought visually by human beings. I would
include everyday objects including water bottles and cell phone with my own
inspirations applied like mixed media as work of art. I think it does not always
have to human or an artist to be involved with the art work. The Fountain by
Marcel Duchamp used a urinal with a fictional name signed as a work of art. He
changed the original urinal by signing differing from an original urinal. Things do
not have to be at a gallery or be complicated designed to be a work of art. The
possibilities of art are endless
2. I would find the Shovel by Jim Dime as a work of art. The shovel was not made
by Jim himself, but he altered the shovel to his own explanation. Jim used shovel
with other material to make mixed media art. He did not just put the exact same
shovel that was mass produced by the factory as work of his art. Shovel does fit the
three criteria. Jim Dime made the finished product of Shovel by mixing other
mediums including paints, wood, a cord, and metal. Jim Dime made the Shovel with
Pros And Cons Of Adult Learning
Usually when we learn something new we tend to distinctly look at it from two
different aspects: analysing its logic and variables, and this is exactly the role
behind a theory where a set of concepts and definitions explains or predict a situation
by specifying logic and variables (Edwards, 2005). Edwards argue that when we
deeply engage with a theory we are now theorizing as a practise, where we involve
abstractions, contemplation, critical engagement, and imagination to make sense of
the theory. Donovan Plumb and Michael Walton, following Hebermas theory, they
argue that adult learningrequires three humankind theories that we can never neglect,
and they are technical, humanist and critical. They argue that those three theories
should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been used in many situations that call for behaviour modification. These
modification methods are taught to adults who will use them to change their own
behaviour when they wish to lose weight, quit smoking, or alter another aspect of
how they behave. However, when it comes to the learning approach, behaviourism
has many limitations. Proponents of this method would agree that the only evidence
we have or require of a learner gaining knowledge is from observing their behaviour.
To them, a learner has learned something if he or she can do the task after instruction
that they could not do before. Learning is seen as an end product that takes place as a
result of reinforcement or operant conditioning (Hiemstra, 1994).
Learning is viewed as an impact on behaviour, attitude, assumptions, confidence and
world view of the learner, thus one can discover that behaviourism and the humanistic
approach have several elements in common.
Now I would like to go in depth and talk to you a little bit more about humanistic vs.
behaviouristic.
Both the behaviouristic and the humanistic approaches believe the self directed
learning style. Humanism takes this idea one step further and requires that an
individual must take responsibility for their learning, and that this can be applied to
the instructional process. To a humanist, the process of learning, and learning how to
learn, becomes more important than the outcome. Humanists would say that the
assumption
It Is A Water Purification System
It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of
Amaya, Torencio, and El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for guys: long
pants, closed toed shoes, t shirt with sleeves, and hats optional. The dress code for
girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck shirts with sleeves, and no tight
fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities tasks of digging
a trench, installing a water purification system, home visits, and of course playing
with the kids were handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon.
Then the team boarded two small buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel
with a pool and dinner awaiting. Then the nightly team debriefs and bed shortly
after to do it again. Then before you know it you are standing there surrounded by
shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase adios said between the sniffles of runny
noses and tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being taken to add to the
thousands from the week all in hopes of getting that one picture or a few
memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow. Then returning home is
exhausting as is trying to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering American
food which you had a week ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions
that are always asked are: what did you do? what did you learn? how did you see
God? The response frequently begins with the pronoun I and a comparison of the
different situations begins either in
I Love Alzheimer s Research Paper
Why I chose This Topic I ve always loved the holidays. It s a mostly stress free
nostalgic time to enjoy with friends and loved ones. Best of all, holidays normally
mean gifts and plenty of good food! The celebrations are great, but it seems that at
most every family Christmas or Thanksgiving, we are on the edge of our seats and
nervous. I ve found that I am unable to concentrate on the festivities because my
mind is wandering, thinking of our other loved ones. Since I can remember, we
have always had a family member plagued with cancer, tumors, or other grave
diseases. That being said, the ailment I ve feared most is Alzheimer s. I ve seen too
many loved ones forget their relatives and eventually their spouses because of this
disease. I am... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of my main questions was whether I could do anything emotionally to cope
with Alzheimer s and with that search I had better luck. One of my favorite pieces
of information I found was to face your feelings head on think of all
emotions...positive and negative...be as sad as you want...work through anger and
frustration...these are healthy feelings...it s common to feel love and anger at the
same time Taken from a paper published on ( Alzheimer s Association website ).
The next thing I found that helped me personally was how to deal with guilt,
personally I ve experienced feeling guilty when taking a break or not being there
for my grandma when she needed me, as well as regretting things I had done
before knowing about the illness. Something interesting I found that I would ve
never thought of was to continue to participate in as many activities as possible.(
Alzheimer s Association pg. ) I also found that a good way to keep an emotional
connection longer is to personally connect with the sufferer. A few ways to do that
is to keep eye contact with throughout the conversation, to always refer to them by
name when talking, continue the conversation as long as possible because is
makes the person with AD feel better about themselves, and be aware of the body
language you re presenting ( Grief and loss as Alzheimer s progresses pg. ). I
would say the most essential piece of information I learned was the best thing I can
do is just comfort the person with AD and make their time left as easy as
The Roles Of Medieval Women In The Middle Century
Middle Ages was a period of tremendous social, political, and economic change. It
was also a time of tremendous linguistic change for Middle English was born
through the marriage of Anglo Saxon language from the natives and Norman
French language from the Norman invaders. People were categorized into classes.
These classes were given specific roles to fulfill in their society. During the
medieval period, rural life was governed by a system called feudalism . Common
people were divided into serfs and peasants. Serfs were bound to the land and were
almost like slaves. While, peasants were poor farmers who cultivate owned or rented
lands. Both of these classes work for nobles for the rich gave them military

All women are dependent on their husbands for the financial support the family
needs. Medieval women were given narrow choices in their lives: to marry or to
take the veil and become a nun. Medieval women were categorized based on their
sexual activity: virgin, wife, or widow. They were also elevated to an ideal, an
image of perfection that cannot be attained, through the Chivalric Code. Women
were bound to maintain their purity, their virginity until marriage, not to engage in
any sexual activity. Women were confined to their houses to tend to their home
and children. For aristocratic women, they have servants to supervise. Men and
women of today are given equal opportunities and rights. Men are still the same as
before. While, women are being empowered by the society. They are allowed to
work and earn money for themselves. They are seen as people capable of making
decisions for and by themselves. They are not categorized according to their sexual
activity. They are not strictly confined to their houses to take care of their family for
the rest of their lives. But, some
Cole V South Tweed Heads Rugby League Football Club
The High court reached the correct decision in Cole V South Tweed Heads Rugby
League Football Club Limited [2004] HCA ( The club ) on a number of grounds.
The New South Wales Court of Appeal Wales held that the club owed Ms Cole
only the general duty of care owed by the occupier of premises to a lawful entrant.
This duty did not extend to protecting patrons from harm of the kind suffered by Ms
Cole caused by intoxication. Ms Cole appealed to the High Court. The High Court,
by a 4 2 majority, dismissed the appeal. It held that an adult in Ms Cole s position
knew the effects and risks of excessive drinking and that the club had done all that
could be expected of it to ensure her safety. The decision reached by the High Court
is in line with the current legislation and common law dictates, concerning the legal
position of an intoxicated plaintiff and the duty of care in relation to an intoxicated
plaintiff.
The judgement in Cole provides confirmation of the direction of the Court s
jurisprudence in terms of a contraction in the law of negligence, as the last outpost of
the welfare state . In addition, Cole also suggests that we might as a community want
to pause to reconsider the balance struck between the privacy of individual consumers
of alcohol and broader community safety concerns.
I. LEGAL POSITION OF AN INTOXICATED PLAINTIFF
The decision of the High Court in regards to the intoxication of the plaintiff and
resulting level of liability is echoed in sections 49 and 50
The Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind By Charlie
Kaufman
Bianca Rincon ENGL 300: Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind The Eternal
Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel
Gondry, immerses viewers in a space of artistic expression from one scene to the
next. Manipulating light and color in its filmic style, it stamps the viewer s ticket
and takes them on an emotional roller coaster ride, capturing the same distortion
that Joel feels in his life and mind as he undergoes a procedure and loses his
memory. Deftly, the film captures the effects of the memory erasing procedure by
drawing readers into the subjective world held in Joel s mind. Cinematography,
editing, and mise en scene work together to create a space where the audience can
feel the emotion provoked by the characters and narrative in an incredibly genuine
way, hand held cameras used to further highlight this effect. The film follows Joel
Barish and his relationship with Clementine Kruczynski, passionate but highly
dysfunctional in nature. The film stretches over a couple of years, showing both its
peak and nadir, leading to the end of their relationship. Joel, hurt and perplexed,
realizes that Clementine has undergone a memory erasing procedure at Lacuna in an
endeavor to erase any trace or memory of Joel. Upset, he finds the doctor and
demands the same operations. Trapped in his mind, he relives memories as they are
erased and realizes the importance of his past, his relationship with Clementine, and
what that means to him. Joel
Contributions In The Case Of Benedict Arnold s War
Most espionage cases involve two things: a foreign connection and an insider threat.
Many factors lead to a trusted individual having no alternative than betraying his or
her own country. John Andre was the foreign connection in this instance, and
Benedict Arnold being the insider threat that had no alternative but to commit treason
and become the United Statesmost famous traitor. Benedict Arnold had a laundry list
of indicators that made him an attractive target to the likes of the British. Arnold was
the second most important General in the American Army, and that type of person
should get the praise they deserve, and Arnold did not receive that praise. Arnold had
numerous battle victories, including Saratoga, possibly his most famous, but still felt
like the Americans did not appreciate his value. On top of that, Arnold was not being
paid for his efforts as a General in the Continental Army. Many spies and traitors in
the history of the United States generally have financial troubles compounded
among other indicators. When someone feels they are having financial troubles they
look for another way to make a source of income and being a spy or traitor seems to
be a method to accomplish that goal. If Benedict Arnold had been treated fairly and
received proper compensation, both monetarily and respectfully, Andre never would
have had the insider threat needed to accomplish his mission.
The second reason the incident could have been prevented does not exist because the
incident was prevented. Andre never got the defensive plans back to the British, and
Arnold s treachery was stopped before the British had a chance to come to fruition.
The British did have control of Arnold, and he could possibly detail the defenses of
West Point, but by that time the Americans most likely had already augmented the
defenses of West Point.
If Arnold was released back to the Americans, Andre s life would have been spared.
The British did not want to exchange Arnold for Andre because General Clinton did
not want to discourage other defectors from coming forward with information
beneficial to the British. The Americans would have had to work harder to make sure
the British were not able to pull something over on them again. Andre
Freestyle Swimming Is A Category For A Swim Competition
Freestyle swimming is a category for a swim competition. Swimming has known to
be around for more than 10,000 years and freestyle swimming was one of the most
common forms of swimming. In the 1830 s swimming became more of a
competitive sport. By 1837 the NSS was holding swimming competitions in England.
The sport grew popular in the 1880 s and there was three hundred regional clubs
across the country.
International Swimming Federation (FINA), had the rules of what freestyle is. It had
said freestyle is just a choice of the swimming technique you can use.
(Wikipedia.com) Freestyle races are the most common of all the styles. Mainly
during freestyle races the front crawl technique was used because it was usually the
fastest. Even though during a freestyle race, the racer can chose which style they
want, It is not common to see the dog paddle or the sidestroke. Then besides the
front crawl it is common to see breaststroke, butterfly, and the backstroke being used.
But the styles have the most speed would be the front crawl or the australian, which
are the most picks for any races and competitions.
The first Olympic Games were a male only competition. In Paris is where the second
Olympic Game was held. The 4000 m freestyle competition was the long swimming
race until the 10k swim competition was brought in 2008. FINA the swimming
association was formed in 1908. Freestyle competitions were also swum in different

Kindred Bad Consequences
The question, are bad choices and good choices equally likely to have negative
consequences suggests that making any choice will most likely to leave effect on
other involved in. In other words, decisions have no good or bad quality, by the
consequences define a fine decision maker. In my opinion, people tend to choose
authorized people with the least negative effects in the their success. Through out life
and society, the evidence to support my viewpoint is pervasive.
Consider the case of Kindred, written by Octovia Butler in 1980, set in 1960
Maryland and 1984 California. A black woman, Dana, was forcefully sent back in
time to Maryland. She struggle to handle slavery enforcement, but with the help of
Rufus, the white master, she was able to ease her pain with lighter punishments.
However, Dana had no choice in the end to kill Rufus because he was becoming his
late father whose soul is full of scorn toward the people of color. Her choice had
helped the slaves in Rufus home to escape t freedom. Unfortunately, she caused a life
that loved her from the bottom of his heart. The decision she mad is with wise

An Overview of Motion Sensing
Motion sensing is the technique in which a system detects a change in position of an
object with respect to its surroundings. This paper gives an overview of motion
sensors and its applications, and also points out the problems associated with them.
II.Introduction
Motion sensing is the process of detecting a change in position of an object with
respect to its surroundings, or, change in the surroundings with respect to the object.
Motion can be sensed in several ways:
i.Infrared sensing using passive or active sensors ii. Vibration sensing using seismic
sensors iii. Sound sensing using acoustic sensors and microphones iv. Optics sensing
using video camera systems
Motion sensing is classified into following types:
i.Local motion sensing: An infrared motion detector detects motion in a given area ii.
Ultrasonic motion sensing: It uses sound waves to detect motion iii. Microwave
motion sensing: Such systems send out microwaves that bounce off an object and
return to the sensors.
III.History
[1]Though the study of what would become radar began in the late 19th century, it
was World War II that refined it to a useful detection technology. The use of radar
made it possible to detect aircraft, and eventually undersea aggressors, before they
could become dangerous to targets. This early use of radar was strictly confined to
military applications.
As the war wound down, Samuel Bagno used his knowledge of radar to develop the
first motion sensors in the mid 1940s. He called his

What Is the Percent by Mass of NaHCO3 in Alka SeltzerВ® Tablets?
Introduction
Ever wonder about the chemical makeup of tablets that people take for pain relief?
Before a tablet can be successfully made, the limiting and excess reactants must be
considered. The limiting reactant will affect the amount of the product that can be
made. Another reason why the starting reactants must be determined carefully is to
make reduce the amount of the reactant in excess so that reactants are not wasted.
This experiment uses an Alka Seltzer tablet. Alka Seltzer dissolves in water and is
an antacid and a pain reliever1. The Alka Seltzer tablet has many uses such as relief
of headaches, ingestion, heart burns, or even upset stomachs2. The active ingredients
in an Alka Seltzer tablet is aspirin, also known as acetyl salicylic acid (C8H12O4),
citric acid (C6H8O7), and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)2. The aspirin in the Alka
Seltzer tablet helps with pain relief. Because of the acid base chemistry (BrГёnsted
Lowry), citric acid and sodium bicarbonate produce O2, which makes the tablet fizz
when it is dropped in liquid. The BrГёnsted Lowry theory shows how the BrГёnsted
Lowry acid donates a hydrogen ion while the BrГёnsted Lowry base accepts the
hydrogen ions3. The remaining NaHCO3 that is in excess post reaction with the
citric acid is what is used to neutralize stomach acid which helps relief heart burn2.

Why Are Bees Dying Out
Honeybees are very important insects, they pollinate flowers and plants. If the bees
died out we wouldn t have a lot of the food or plants we have today. Bees are mostly
dying out due to the fact that a lot of people use chemicals to keep plants free of
plants. We need bees or much more people would be left penniless and starving.
One of every three bites of food eaten worldwide depends on pollinators, especially
bees, for a successful harvest. (Grossman, 2013) Bees pollinate flowers of all kinds
so that they can grow. Without the bees what would pollinate the flowers?
Beekeepers across the United States lost 44 percent of their honey bee colonies during
the year spanning April 2015 to April 2016, according to the latest preliminary
results of an annual nationwide survey. Rates of both winter loss and summer loss
and consequently, total annual losses worsened compared with last year. (the Bee
Informed Team, 2016) Why are bees dying out? According to the Nature
Conservancy, there are several reasons why this could be happening: ... Show more

According to the Nature, Conservancy tracheal and varroa mites infested beehives
and decimated them. Varroa mites continued spreading diseases while the trachea
mites didn t pose much of a problem. In fall of 2006, a sudden die off of bee
colonies was brought on by the disappearance of adult bees from their hives. they
called it fall dwindling until later when they renamed it Colony Collapse Disorder
or CCD. Since the bee population has reduced farmers will either have to sell crops
later or sell less of them. If there were no bees, a large percentage of everyday foods
we eat would be gone. Think about all the things you love eating or the fruits that
you love to see and eat. Without bees, these things would be gone. Since flowers
need have to be pollinated and bees do the pollinating the two would either exist
together or die out together. This is bad because a lot of food comes from
Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism
Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to
produce quality goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a
better sense of variety when making purchases. Competition in its purest form creates
small buyers and sellers none of which are too large to negatively affect the market as
a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times when merchants
competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as
a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and
demand in a free market economy. They also believed that supply and demand
worked better in a laissez faire type environment. This was possible through freedom
to trade, transparent knowledge of market conditions, no government restrictions on
trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions prevented any buyer or seller
to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the mid 1800 s,
limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations
achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would
allow them to fix prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses
became so large that they controlled enough market share to deceptively manipulate
prices in their industry. This activity created an atmosphere for President Theodore
Roosevelt to launch his famous trustbusting campaigns. The era of antitrust
Descriptive Essay About Sparring In Taekwondo
He Was Breathtaking Waking up early on a Saturday to excessively exercise and
then getting beaten up afterward is not everyone s cup of tea. It sure wasn t mine
and to this very day, I still have mixed feelings about sparring in Taekwondo. Sparring
is a sport for students to better prepare themselves in self defense, but also for
competition. Light contact was recommended, but at times the pressure gets the
better of the fighter. Accidents frequently occur. I was just starting out in this lung

of us. I didn t mind sparring, but when I saw who I was paired with, I might of as

could not take much more, so I sat out for the rest of the time.
As my eyes burned from the sweat and tears mixing together, I yelled at myself, I

He placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing so tight, I could feel my veins

Policy Making Analysis
The first three chapters of the Introduction to the Policy Process talks about how our
society makes policy and how different events in the country s history can have
drastic effects on policy, and how these different kinds of policy s can have an effect
on the American people as well. In this country policymaking has been there from the
start after the signing of the Declaration of Independence and our separation from
Great Britain. The readings mention what policy is and its purpose in our government
and the population at large, why policy making is important to study, the elements of
the policy making system, the different environments that can affect policy, and the
historical and structural contexts of policy making in this country.... Show more

One thing that the readings mentions that when we look at the policy making
process, we should look at the separation of powers. The separation of powers in our
government, is the balance that was put in place so that no branch has too much
power, and that each branch can override a decision, that one branch makes when
it comes to policy. The three branches are the executive branch, which deals with
the president, the legislative branch which deals with the House of
Representatives and the Senate, and the Judicial Branch, which deals with the
Supreme Court. Each branch has a separate job to do, and can influence policy in
different ways. For example, the Supreme Court had overruled a policy that had
said that schools could separate kids due to the color of the skin. The Famous
court case of Brown v. Board of Education changed this policy and allowed kids to
go to the same school, regardless of the color of their skin. Many people across the
country knew that the separate schools policy was wrong and the government did
nothing to change it for many years. The court case changed this and overruled a
policy that had been put in place many years ago and created a new policy in its
The Great Gatsby And The Virgin Suicides
Obsession has been used as a controversial tool in literature for many years. It
provokes strong feelings in people because of the different ways obsession can
take form, whether it be soft and affectionate, or aggressive and violent. Often, the
targets of obsession are females. In The Great Gatsby, The Virgin Suicides, Lolita
and Fear, there are men who obsess over a female character. These female
characters are all shown to be powerless, whether it be at the hands of their
obsessor or because of other factors in their lives. In The Great Gatsby and The
Virgin Suicides, the theme of obsession is prevalent. It is shown through Gatsby s
obsession with Daisy and the boys obsession with the Lisbon girls. In both of these
novels, these people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys obsession is unrequited, with the narrator noting that while we pretended
we hadn t been looking for them at all, that we didn t know they existed. This is in
contrast with Gatsby, whose love returned by Daisy during the novel. Gatsby s and
the boy s obsessions are both used in order to fill a hole left in their lives: Gatsby
feels incomplete without Daisy, and the Lisbon sisters were taken away from the
boys very abruptly, which left them needing to find out what happened. The men
who show their obsessions in Fear and Lolita do so in a more aggressive manner.

Impact Of The Beatles And Frank Zappa
Cultural Impact Of The Beatles And Frank Zappa
In my thesis I would like to discuss both the Beatles and Frank Zappa and their
cultural and political impact on the Anglosphere. What the Beatles and Frank Zappa
have meant for the people during their musical career? What was their cultural
legacy?
The Beatles are generally considered to be the best band in the history of popular
music. This is mainly due to the influence they had on other bands and musicians all
over the world such as Billy Joel, Nirvana, Oasis and many other. Songs with a
similar style and sounding became known as beatlesque.

When will the end come? It is human nature for humans to ask questions. Many of
these questions are without answers and there is no possible way to come up with
one. A common question that plagues the human race is When will the world end?
For thousands of years, astrologers and psychics have been trying to come up with
clues to when it all will end. There is a source, the Bible, which aids humans,
specifically Christians, in trying to come up with some answers. Many places in the
Bible such as Revelations, Ezekiel, Matthew, Daniel, and I Corinthians all give some
clues to how and when the end of the world will come. Two articles that give some

The Catholic Church, even though they do not speak of the Rapture (McBride
amp; Praem, 65) believes that we will be with God someday. They are not sure
though how this will happen (McBride amp; Praem, 58). The second question a
millenarian would ask is What about the years of tribulation? A millenarian says
that there will be seven years of tribulation. They base this claim on the happenings
in the book of Revelations. In the Book of Revelations the number seven is used
several times like, the seven seals, the seven trumpets, and so on. Nevertheless,
millenarians are not sure when all of this will happen. The Catholic Church believes
though that the tribulations will come along with the Second Coming. The third
question is What, exactly, is meant by millennium? In the American Heritage
Dictionary, millennium is defined as In the NT, a thousand year period in which
Jesus is to reign on Earth. (American Heritage Dictionary, 529). This same
definition is found in The Book of Revelations 20:1 6 (McBride amp; Praem, 61).
Millenarians believe that after the seven years of tribulations and the Battle of
Armageddon, comes the millennium as described in Revelations, will come. The
final question is When can we expect the Second Coming? Millenarians believe that
the Second Coming is the last criteria for the end of the world. Not only
Champions Of The World Cup
Champions of the World. My dad had grabbed us by the scruff of our necks and
pulled us in close with tears in his eyes, whispering Were going to watch Italy win
the fucking World Cup! and amidst the 90,000 loyal german fans around us I
wondered if that was the first time I ever heard him swear. Rather then jumping
around and celebrating, we embraced in a truly passionate hug and I could feel the
sweat on the back of his jersey, as if he had just fought for two hours. We watched
Italy battle Germany for 118 minutes before Fabio Grosso curled a left footer home
and broke the deadlock. My father purchased tickets to two games six months in
advance of the biggest soccer tournament in the world, Italy versus Czech
Republic, and the World Cup final. On July 5th, 2006 at a fan fest in Munich, my
brother, father and I sported our team Italy jerseys and cheered as our team
conquered the German squad on their own soil. I remember going through the
ticket gates of Olympiastadion, with a rapidly beating heart, praying to God that
our tickets were real, and that we would be allowed in the gates. The sun was fast
descending as we made our way to our seats and awaited kickoff. Seven minutes in,
the french side struck first after Zenidene Zidane converted a penalty kick, which was
cheaply awarded after Florent Malouda dove in the box, appealing to the referee
with his arms flailing around, despite being in the second tier, we could see there was
no contact on the apparent foul. The
Analysis Of Natsume Soseki s Kokoro
Natsume Soseki s Kokoro illustrates the struggles of a young man (the narrator)
who was alienated from his family and his loneliness as he pursues acceptance and
love by building a friendship with an elder. As a parallel to this, the elder (Sensei),
sought an end to his social isolation through his love to a woman whose qualities
were not tainted by modernity. K, Sensei s childhood friend, had also hinted his
struggles in isolation as he tried to keep to his idealistic principles. This paper will
analyze the isolation and loneliness that was faced by the Japanese people during a
period of significant modernization and how they approached it and attempted to
solve the conflict between tradition and modernity.
Meiji Ishin was a time of revolution in 1868 that restored practical imperial order to
Japan under Emperor Meiji, thus reconstructing the government. Many people had
high hopes in this new order of government but the older generation was torn between
their tradition and modernization. In Kokoro, Sensei was a character that illustrated
loneliness and isolation in his individual struggles with this conflict. In the present,
he said that he represented neither the new or old tradition but rather a representation
of a person who was caught in between the traditional belief and modern belief. Here
I quote, You see, I am an inconsistent person. This inconsistency may not be so much
a natural part of my character as the effect that the remembrance of my own past has

Mission Command Principles
The Principles of Mission Command
Introduction
During 2003, General Petraeus and his soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division
had no clue of the astounding role they were about to embark on. General Petraeus
found the city of Mosul in complete destruction, and knew it would take a cohesive
effort through mutual trust and teamwork to restore the city. The city of Mosul did
not only need a complete make over, but also a regime that shared a mutual
understanding as Petraeus. Lastly, with the city rebuilding changes would bring
hostility and risk to the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. General David
Petraeus was successful in Mosul, because he applied the mission command control
principles of building cohesive teams, creating shared understanding, and accepting
prudent risk.
Building Cohesive Teams
The city of Mosul had taken a substantial amount of damage to its infrastructure, and
government and needed assistance from United States in a team effort to help
restore what had been lost. To have cohesive team work, you first must be able to
communicate so that you can maximize the workload in a shared effort. Petraeus new
he had to rebuild and establish an effective security plan, so he teamed up American
soldiers with the local Iraqi police to receive on the job training (Mohiuddin, 2007).
Another partner of the rebuilding phase, who became part of the team was, Retired
Army Lieutenant General Jay Garner, of the Office of Reconstruction and

Examples Of Antiheros
Antiheroes: neither villains nor supermen but the tragic heroes of daily life.
Discussing the depiction of the male American antihero within the framework of this
thesis in the cases of Lester Burnham, Frank Wheeler, and Brandon Sullivan refers
to white men from (upper) middle class leading a drab, emotionally unfulfilling life
in the US in New York City and suburbs in Connecticut, to be exact. First of all, one
needs to clarify what exactly makes and antiheroand what distinguishes him from
other (stock) characters. To begin with, the Compact Oxford English Dictionaryfor
Students defines antihero as a central character in a story, film, or play who lacks
typical heroic qualities (Soanes 36). Therefore, it becomes relevant also to list the
dictionary definition of the words hero and heroic :

The tragic hero of daily life can be found in the ancient Greek comedy, in
Shakespeare s Hamlet in Hamlet (1603), in Cervantes Don Quijote in El ingenioso
hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605) criticising the traditional hero in epics
and romances of chivalry, as well as in today s films about social criticism of
Western consumer culture such as Fight Club (1999), or modern TV series such as
Breaking Bad. The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms further lists
Flaubert s Emma Bovary in Madame Bovary (1857), Joyce s Leopold Bloom in
Ulysses (1922), and Arthur Miller s Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman as
outstanding examples of this antiheroic ordinariness and inadequacy and describes
the antihero as ineffectual failure who succumbs to the pressure of circumstances
(Baldick, 13). Frank Eugene Beaver goes a step further, adding characteristics that are
particularly interesting for this thesis. His antihero notion of antihero refers to as

The art for art remained unknown in ancient Egypt; all creation was a practical
purpose: the prosperity and triumph of Egypt, providing the survival of rulers and

the supreme intention was magical action. According to our book (art history by
Marilyn Stokstad and Michael W. Cothren): The architecture is religious or funeral

we also know some palaces and fortresses. The statuary, too, funeral (the statue is
considered the repository of the soul of the deceased) or divine (the royal statues
represent the pharaoh, god on earth or in the hereafter). The reliefs are dependent on
strict religious patterns; one painting, especially that found in the tombs of the
notables of the New Kingdom, manifest a spontaneity and a certain naturalism, but it
was only a substitute art to replace cheaply the painted relief. This liveliness is
reflected in the minor arts, and fard for spoons or pots ointments; but the jewels

Concrete Slab Foundations
A home s foundation is the bottom most layer that provides the support for a
home. Depending on the part of the country, the size of the home and when it was
built, the type of foundation may vary. Concrete slab foundations are the most
common; some are built to sustain crawl spaces or basements. Other foundation
types are pier and beam, pile and spread foundations. Regardless of the type, all
will require at some point foundation repair. Signs of a foundation in need of repair
include cracks in the walls, bricks, drywall, tile or even the foundation itself. Other
signs are sticky doorjambs and windows, sloping floors, cracking or separating
chimneys or fascia board. In some cases, mold may accumulate in the cracks.
Whether too much or not enough, water is the main culprit in foundation repair
cases. Over saturated soil expands pushing into the home and foundation and over
time loses stability, causing the foundation to again move and crack. Dry soil on the
other hand contracts, pulling away from the perimeter of the home, leaving little
support for the foundation, causing shifts and cracks. When foundation problems
begin to appear it is crucial to repair them as soon as possible. Early foundation
repairs may prevent further problems down the road and save... Show more content on

Honey Bees in the American Colonies Essay
Many people know very little about how honey bees have been apart of our history
from colonial times. Why were honey bees important to the colonial beekeeper?
How were the bees kept? Does beekeeping now, vary from what it was then? These
are all questions that must be asked. The honey bee is a unique insect that has been
apart of the history of our country for centuries. Beekeepinghas changed over time
yet many of the essential results of keeping honey bees are unchanged. Lets look at
their similarities and differences. The honey beeis not native to North America. In
Notes on Virginia1 Thomas Jefferson stated: The honey bee is not a native of our
continent. Marcgrove, indeed, mentions a species of the honey bee in Brazil. But...

Primarily the use of honey; the bee s number one product, was an excellent
sweetener5 as sugar was an expensive commodity. Cakes and cornbread might have
been enhanced by the presence of honey. The antibacterial properties may have
been used medicinally in colonial homes as well. In the county of Essex,
Massachusetts the year 1660 a stand of bees was assessed at five pounds;6 a large
sum in those days. This proves that not only their yield of honey and wax, but also
the honey bees themselves were greatly valued by the colonists. Used for candles,
the wax was desirable because of its clean burn and non drip qualities.7 Other uses
for it included waxing furniture, floors, harnesses and a multitude of other
equipment. Pollination did not become a major focus until a much later time. The
products honey bees produced were a key part of the colonist s daily lives, very
much like they are for us now. Unlike Colonial America the focus of beekeeping
today is on large scale pollination of agricultural crops. We still enjoy our honey and
value many of the same products but beekeeping is an industry now. The private
beekeeper is not the heart of beekeeping in the twenty first century. We see business
men with thousands of bee colonies pollinating hundreds of acres of fruits, nuts and

The Development Through Physical Education
Figure 1
A table to show the development through Physical Education.
Fundamental movement skills (FMS) are basic skills. These skills begin to be
developed throughout the early years of life, from crawling to walking, from
walking to running. Pickup and Price (2007) say that children gain control over
their bodies by moving in a variety of ways. They go on to say that children have
various and versatile movements to interact with the environment. Once the FMS
skills are developed, physical progress in Physical Education (PE) can be made.
Emotional well being is promoted in PE. Pickup et al (2008 p.5) suggests that
engaging in physical activity can enhance significantly the personal confidence and
self esteem . Therefore, to have a child that is unconfident, PE could be a barrier to
their learning. To help a child become more confident, progress with that child must
be made through physical activity to overcome their barrier. Likewise, Pickup and
Price (2007) state that physical education contributes to the development of self
esteem. It has been suggested that self esteem is influenced by the child s perception
of competence.
Motivation plays a key role in PE. Pickup and Price (2007) state that enjoyment
during physical activity can lead to enhanced motivation. Motivation is the drive
factor that helps us achieve goals. Pickup and Price (2007), and Lavin (2015) agree

Cuban Embargo Research Paper
The Cuban embargo is a commercial, economic, and financial sanction placed by the
United States over fifty years ago due to multiple tensions between the U.S. and
Cuba. Known locally as el bloqueo , the embargo ultimately restricts Cuba s access to
medical information and supplies and places their free health care system in a
difficult position financially. Cubaalso still has the same repressive government it did
years ago, in regards to the government are still abusing the civil and political rights
of its citizens. It is the moral obligation of the United Statesto promote political
change on the island and to attempt to undo the pain and suffering caused by the
States. Thus it is proposed that the Cuban embargo be lifted because it is... Show

This outcome is a direct result of the Helms Burton Act as it restricts other foreign
countries to assist Cuba with its medical situation. Cuban healthcare has been
seriously undermined as the embargo has caused Cuba a loss of more than 200
million dollars in the medical sector alone (Xinhua). However, counter arguments to
lifting the embargo for medical aid focus around the phenomenon of medical tourism,
the facility would be overwhelmed by its foreign patients (Garrett). Yet, placement of
the embargo is comparatively worse than engagement as Cuban citizens currently
have very little chance of experiencing the new generation of health care with the
trading sanction in place, the Cuban people and actors trying to help are being
penalized due to the embargo and the powerlessness the people have when facing the
government. Any private donations made to the public health cause must first go
through the government where where its true amount and value will be grossly
reduced by taxes and fees on U.S. dollars, only then will it trickle down to its
originally intended owners. Much like failed U.S. embargos in the past, the embargo
on the undemocratized Cuban government only negatively affects the people as the
government gains more power and influences the only

Coca Cola was the 1st international soft drinks brand to enter India in early 1970 s.
Indian market was dominated by domestic brands, with Limca being the largest
selling brand. Cola was the largest selling flavor with market share of 40%, Lemon
drinks 31% and orange drinks only 19%.
Up till 1977, Coca cola was the leading soft drink brand in India. But due to norms
set by the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA), Coca Cola left India and did
not return till 1993 after a 16 year absence from the Indian beverage market. FERA
needed Coca Cola to reveal its secret concentrate formula as well as reduce its
equity stake which was not acceptable. Pure drinks, Delhi launched Campa Cola, to
take advantage of Coke s exit and by the end of 70 s, were the only Cola drink in
the Indian market. In 1980, Parle, another major Indian player launched Thums
Up, the drink which till date is most popular soft drink in India. Pure Drinks
strongly objected to Thums Up being called a soft drink as it felt its taste is too
strong. For over a decade, Parle led the Indian soft drinks market, with its market
share reaching a peak of 70% in1990.
Attempt 1: In May 1985, PepsiCo joined hands with the RPG group to form Agro
Product Export Limited. It planned to import Cola concentrate and sell soft drinks
under the Pepsi label and in return offered to export Juice Concentrate from Punjab.
The government rejected the proposal due
The Design Of Cross Sections
.1.8.1.1.3. Stress strain curves for normal and lightweight concrete for the design of
cross sections in Euro code:
From the design concrete curve, it can be defined by multiplying the compressive
strength with a coefficient factor Пѓcc and dividing the strength by a material safety
factor of Оіc = 1.5. The coefficient Пѓcc is the effect of long term behavior on the
compressive strength. It is, however, arguable that the reason for the using this factor
is more related to the idealization of the shape of the stress strain curve as used for
flexure than the nature of loading. Пѓcc is 0.85 of cylinder compressive strength and
0.67 for cube compressive strength. For the design of cross sections, the following
stress strain relationship may be used figure (2.12), table (2.5) and Eq. (2.2), Eq.

Haida Gwaii Research Paper
Haida: One of Many Endangered Languages of Alaska
It is tragedy that a language full of rich history and culture could be left with less
than one hundred native speakers worldwide. The language of Haida from the Haida
tribe in southeast Alaska has been through the Russian and American takeover of
Alaska, as well as education and religion changes. Today the language is critically
endangered and the community is heartbroken about the decline of language usage.
The future of Haida holds revival programs in hope of the language returning.
The Haida tribe is originally from the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia.
Today, the name of the island chains is known as Haida Gwaii. The archipelago is

Summary Of Greasy Lake Essay
Christine Berndt Ms. Granger English Comp 1A 29 November 2016 A Greasy
Turnaround In T. Coraghessan Boyle s short story Greasy Lake , the reader is
brought into an intense situation that occurs on one of the first nights during the
young adult boy s summer vacation. The narrator, whose name is never revealed,
is out on an adventurous night with his friends Digby and Jeff. While out, they
find themselves discovering whether or not the idea of who they thought they
wanted to be and, associate themselves with, was actually what they desired. This
conveys the idea that fantasy and reality do not always correlate due to inevitable
consequences.Michael Adams a British journalist for BBC described Boyle s
upbringing as having a rebellious youth who played drums, sang in a rock and roll
band, and drove fast cars . Along with this Adams states that Boyle Did not get
along with his father, a school bus driver whose alcoholism killed him at age fifty
four in 1972. Boyle s mother, a secretary, was also an alcoholic and died of liver
failure . Greasers most often come from rough family backgrounds and find
themselves indulging in fast cars, and enjoy mischievous activities such as drugs and
alcohol. With the rough and untraditional childhood that T. C Boyle endured perhaps
it inspired him to develop Greasy Lake . The stories central conflict arises when the
characters head out to Greasy Lake after they did not find suitable entertainment
elsewhere. When they
Jane Eyre Wide Sargasso Sea Essay
Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea haunts the narrative of Jane Eyre through the
construction and recognition of the uncanny. Rhys incorporates the uncanny within
her rewriting of Jane Eyre through the utilization of narrative devices and ambiguous
representations of physical spaces. By rewriting Jane Eyre, Rhys attempts to
construct a history that is not only detached from the dominant world established in
Jane Eyre, but grounded within the hauntological realm of the Caribbean. The
hauntological realm in which Rhys constructs, not only provides a degree of agency
within a realm of uncertainty, but establishes a degree of restraint too.
Megan Mericle argued that both Jane Eyre (1847) and Wide Sargasso Sea (1966)
suggests the liberation of their respective female protagonist from the oppressive
conventions in which they find themselves captive (Mericle 2012, 236). While
BrontГ« s Jane Eyre asserts the independence of Jane Eyre to have derived through
her escape from restrictive patriarchal conventions, Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea follows
an alternative narrative where it is through repression that Antoinette ... Show more

Throughout Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette remains subject to Rochester s physical
control. Rochester exercises this control through renaming Antoinette, Bertha (Rhys
2000, 86) and marionette (Rhys 2000, 99), to Antoinette s inevitable confinement
with the Thornfield attic (Rhys 2000, 115). Although Antoinette is physically
confined within the attic, Grace Poole does not fail to mention that Antoinette has
not however lost her spirit (Rhys 2000,116). Therefore, we need to look beyond the
realm of the physical in order to discover spaces of liberation, spaces that are
interestingly secretive, haunted, or merely
The Moral Of Kings That Can Improve Our Means
The Moral Of Kings That Can Improve our Means When I was in middle school
and was just beginning to get involved with Volleyball in a general P.E. class, my
friends and I had begun playing every day. At the time the school I was attending
was just a Fine Arts Academy and had not began the process of making in Varsity
sports teams. This lead to my friends and I, trying desperately to convince the dean
into letting us start a Varsity level team. This was highly unlikely considering it
was the first year the school was being opened and the district was still working on
the funding for all of the different programs the school had to offer. The dean
eventually made a deal with us and said if we were to start a sports team club and
raise the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more we can think of morals from different fables, the more we can strengthen
our society. We have been known as an age that does not incorporate deep thoughts
as well as an age that is unsuccessful within making our own decisions. Thinking of
a moral like this is where we begin to make our change. By incorporating the not
involved leader and not accepting the cruel leader. This generation has the power
to make a change whether it is for the better or the worse. The more we change
how we think of certain situations the less it will take for our futures to be
enlightened. Fables have morals that can be heavily touched upon in society. Such
stories like The Frogs Desiring a King, gives a background to how politics could
and should work. The moral of this particular fable deals with the cruelty between
leaders. I see this as modern example of the 2016 Presidential debate and the future
in which Obama leaves office and if Trump gets elected president after. I feel the
arguments about Obama will die down once society realizes that he was not that
bad of a commander and chief compared to others in our modern day society. There
were many reactions that The Frogs Desiring a King, had given me. The main one
was that this could be, or would be how I could relate this to my society today. This
reaction partially came from my recent involvement in politics and how I have
become interested in who

  • 5. The Patriot ( 2000 ) The Patriot (2000) follows Benjamin Martin (Francis Marion) a widower with 7 children and veteran of the French and Indian war. He is reluctant to join the fight against the British until Colonel William Tavington (Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton) kills Benjamin s son and burns down his house in South Carolina. Benjamin Martin leads his militia and attacks against the British with guerilla warfare until the climax battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel William. What is wrong with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the British taxed the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the war through guerilla warfare, but that s one of the few things that are historically accurate about the film. Important things that are historically accurate are the ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in. Attacking head to head was not an option because the British soldiers were obviously more powerful so the militia used surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character Colonel William Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton, was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly and evil because he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a great job at showing how menacing Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was. Nevertheless, the film was mostly inaccurate and could be considered an American version
  • 6. Foreign Direct Investment Into Pakistan Title: Causes of Foreign direct investment into Pakistan. Aim and objectives: The dissertation topic will focus on the importance of foreign direct investment into Pakistan s Economy and will also focus around the causes of foreign direct investment. The report will look into three different perspectives such as, the effects on FDI pre and post 9/11, investment in different sectors of industry and the importance of investing countries in terms of contributing towards developing Pakistan s infrastructure or helping financially to fight the War against terror . Moreover, the report also provides an insight to what can be done to improve the inflow of FDI into Pakistan. Background of Pakistan s economy and FDI: Since the independence in 1947 the economy of Pakistan has emerged as a semi industrialized economy and is mainly based on textile, agriculture and food production. The textile industry contributes around 9% to the country s gross domestic product (khurram baig, 2013). However, since the start of 2008 the country as a whole has struggled to gain the confidence of many foreign and local investors due to instability and security concerns and the country is struggling to gain back the confidence ever since. Although, after 2012 an increase in the FDI was seen due to improvement in the tertiary sector, this was n mainly due to an increase in spending power and confidence shown by the local consumers (The World Bank). Foreign direct investment refers to long term
  • 7. Shovel As A Work Of Art 1. I disagree with the authors definition for work of art. The author states that their thought on work of art has to be something made by a person. Nature such as trees and insects are not works of art. I personally hold more of vague and open opinion on my definition for work of art. I feel like nature and even the uncontrolled movements caused by non humanare considered as art. My definition of work of art would be something that can be seen or thought visually by human beings. I would include everyday objects including water bottles and cell phone with my own inspirations applied like mixed media as work of art. I think it does not always have to human or an artist to be involved with the art work. The Fountain by Marcel Duchamp used a urinal with a fictional name signed as a work of art. He changed the original urinal by signing differing from an original urinal. Things do not have to be at a gallery or be complicated designed to be a work of art. The possibilities of art are endless 2. I would find the Shovel by Jim Dime as a work of art. The shovel was not made by Jim himself, but he altered the shovel to his own explanation. Jim used shovel with other material to make mixed media art. He did not just put the exact same shovel that was mass produced by the factory as work of his art. Shovel does fit the three criteria. Jim Dime made the finished product of Shovel by mixing other mediums including paints, wood, a cord, and metal. Jim Dime made the Shovel with
  • 8. Pros And Cons Of Adult Learning Usually when we learn something new we tend to distinctly look at it from two different aspects: analysing its logic and variables, and this is exactly the role behind a theory where a set of concepts and definitions explains or predict a situation by specifying logic and variables (Edwards, 2005). Edwards argue that when we deeply engage with a theory we are now theorizing as a practise, where we involve abstractions, contemplation, critical engagement, and imagination to make sense of the theory. Donovan Plumb and Michael Walton, following Hebermas theory, they argue that adult learningrequires three humankind theories that we can never neglect, and they are technical, humanist and critical. They argue that those three theories should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been used in many situations that call for behaviour modification. These modification methods are taught to adults who will use them to change their own behaviour when they wish to lose weight, quit smoking, or alter another aspect of how they behave. However, when it comes to the learning approach, behaviourism has many limitations. Proponents of this method would agree that the only evidence we have or require of a learner gaining knowledge is from observing their behaviour. To them, a learner has learned something if he or she can do the task after instruction that they could not do before. Learning is seen as an end product that takes place as a result of reinforcement or operant conditioning (Hiemstra, 1994). Learning is viewed as an impact on behaviour, attitude, assumptions, confidence and world view of the learner, thus one can discover that behaviourism and the humanistic approach have several elements in common. Now I would like to go in depth and talk to you a little bit more about humanistic vs. behaviouristic. Both the behaviouristic and the humanistic approaches believe the self directed learning style. Humanism takes this idea one step further and requires that an individual must take responsibility for their learning, and that this can be applied to the instructional process. To a humanist, the process of learning, and learning how to learn, becomes more important than the outcome. Humanists would say that the assumption

Something interesting I found that I would ve never thought of was to continue to participate in as many activities as possible.( Alzheimer s Association pg. ) I also found that a good way to keep an emotional connection longer is to personally connect with the sufferer. A few ways to do that is to keep eye contact with throughout the conversation, to always refer to them by name when talking, continue the conversation as long as possible because is makes the person with AD feel better about themselves, and be aware of the body language you re presenting ( Grief and loss as Alzheimer s progresses pg. ). • 12. Cole V South Tweed Heads Rugby League Football Club The High court reached the correct decision in Cole V South Tweed Heads Rugby League Football Club Limited [2004] HCA ( The club ) on a number of grounds. The New South Wales Court of Appeal Wales held that the club owed Ms Cole only the general duty of care owed by the occupier of premises to a lawful entrant. This duty did not extend to protecting patrons from harm of the kind suffered by Ms Cole caused by intoxication. Ms Cole appealed to the High Court. The High Court, by a 4 2 majority, dismissed the appeal. It held that an adult in Ms Cole s position knew the effects and risks of excessive drinking and that the club had done all that could be expected of it to ensure her safety. The decision reached by the High Court is in line with the current legislation and common law dictates, concerning the legal position of an intoxicated plaintiff and the duty of care in relation to an intoxicated plaintiff. The judgement in Cole provides confirmation of the direction of the Court s jurisprudence in terms of a contraction in the law of negligence, as the last outpost of the welfare state . In addition, Cole also suggests that we might as a community want to pause to reconsider the balance struck between the privacy of individual consumers of alcohol and broader community safety concerns. I. LEGAL POSITION OF AN INTOXICATED PLAINTIFF The decision of the High Court in regards to the intoxication of the plaintiff and resulting level of liability is echoed in sections 49 and 50

The Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind By Charlie Kaufman Bianca Rincon ENGL 300: Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, immerses viewers in a space of artistic expression from one scene to the next. Manipulating light and color in its filmic style, it stamps the viewer s ticket and takes them on an emotional roller coaster ride, capturing the same distortion that Joel feels in his life and mind as he undergoes a procedure and loses his memory. Deftly, the film captures the effects of the memory erasing procedure by drawing readers into the subjective world held in Joel s mind. Cinematography, editing, and mise en scene work together to create a space where the audience can feel the emotion provoked by the characters and narrative in an incredibly genuine way, hand held cameras used to further highlight this effect. The film follows Joel Barish and his relationship with Clementine Kruczynski, passionate but highly dysfunctional in nature. The film stretches over a couple of years, showing both its peak and nadir, leading to the end of their relationship. Joel, hurt and perplexed, realizes that Clementine has undergone a memory erasing procedure at Lacuna in an endeavor to erase any trace or memory of Joel. Upset, he finds the doctor and demands the same operations. Trapped in his mind, he relives memories as they are erased and realizes the importance of his past, his relationship with Clementine, and what that means to him. Joel
  • 14. Contributions In The Case Of Benedict Arnold s War Most espionage cases involve two things: a foreign connection and an insider threat. Many factors lead to a trusted individual having no alternative than betraying his or her own country. John Andre was the foreign connection in this instance, and Benedict Arnold being the insider threat that had no alternative but to commit treason and become the United Statesmost famous traitor. Benedict Arnold had a laundry list of indicators that made him an attractive target to the likes of the British. Arnold was the second most important General in the American Army, and that type of person should get the praise they deserve, and Arnold did not receive that praise. Arnold had numerous battle victories, including Saratoga, possibly his most famous, but still felt like the Americans did not appreciate his value. On top of that, Arnold was not being paid for his efforts as a General in the Continental Army. Many spies and traitors in the history of the United States generally have financial troubles compounded among other indicators. When someone feels they are having financial troubles they look for another way to make a source of income and being a spy or traitor seems to be a method to accomplish that goal. If Benedict Arnold had been treated fairly and received proper compensation, both monetarily and respectfully, Andre never would have had the insider threat needed to accomplish his mission. The second reason the incident could have been prevented does not exist because the incident was prevented. Andre never got the defensive plans back to the British, and Arnold s treachery was stopped before the British had a chance to come to fruition. The British did have control of Arnold, and he could possibly detail the defenses of West Point, but by that time the Americans most likely had already augmented the defenses of West Point. If Arnold was released back to the Americans, Andre s life would have been spared. The British did not want to exchange Arnold for Andre because General Clinton did not want to discourage other defectors from coming forward with information beneficial to the British. The Americans would have had to work harder to make sure the British were not able to pull something over on them again. Andre

Swimming has known to be around for more than 10,000 years and freestyle swimming was one of the most common forms of swimming. In the 1830 s swimming became more of a competitive sport. By 1837 the NSS was holding swimming competitions in England. The sport grew popular in the 1880 s and there was three hundred regional clubs across the country. International Swimming Federation (FINA), had the rules of what freestyle is. It had said freestyle is just a choice of the swimming technique you can use. This paper gives an overview of motion sensors and its applications, and also points out the problems associated with them. II.Introduction Motion sensing is the process of detecting a change in position of an object with respect to its surroundings, or, change in the surroundings with respect to the object. Motion can be sensed in several ways: i.Infrared sensing using passive or active sensors ii. Vibration sensing using seismic sensors iii. Sound sensing using acoustic sensors and microphones iv. Optics sensing using video camera systems Motion sensing is classified into following types: i.Local motion sensing: An infrared motion detector detects motion in a given area ii. Ultrasonic motion sensing: It uses sound waves to detect motion iii. Microwave motion sensing: Such systems send out microwaves that bounce off an object and return to the sensors. III.History [1]Though the study of what would become radar began in the late 19th century, it was World War II that refined it to a useful detection technology. The use of radar made it possible to detect aircraft, and eventually undersea aggressors, before they could become dangerous to targets. This early use of radar was strictly confined to military applications. As the war wound down, Samuel Bagno used his knowledge of radar to develop the first motion sensors in the mid 1940s. He called his

Introduction Ever wonder about the chemical makeup of tablets that people take for pain relief? Before a tablet can be successfully made, the limiting and excess reactants must be considered. The limiting reactant will affect the amount of the product that can be made. Another reason why the starting reactants must be determined carefully is to make reduce the amount of the reactant in excess so that reactants are not wasted. This experiment uses an Alka Seltzer tablet. Alka Seltzer dissolves in water and is an antacid and a pain reliever1. The Alka Seltzer tablet has many uses such as relief of headaches, ingestion, heart burns, or even upset stomachs2. The active ingredients in an Alka Seltzer tablet is aspirin, also known as acetyl salicylic acid (C8H12O4), citric acid (C6H8O7), and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)2. The aspirin in the Alka Seltzer tablet helps with pain relief. Because of the acid base chemistry (BrГёnsted Lowry), citric acid and sodium bicarbonate produce O2, which makes the tablet fizz when it is dropped in liquid. The BrГёnsted Lowry theory shows how the BrГёnsted Lowry acid donates a hydrogen ion while the BrГёnsted Lowry base accepts the hydrogen ions3. The remaining NaHCO3 that is in excess post reaction with the citric acid is what is used to neutralize stomach acid which helps relief heart burn2. The problem in

Bees are mostly dying out due to the fact that a lot of people use chemicals to keep plants free of plants. We need bees or much more people would be left penniless and starving. One of every three bites of food eaten worldwide depends on pollinators, especially bees, for a successful harvest. (Grossman, 2013) Bees pollinate flowers of all kinds so that they can grow. Beekeepers across the United States lost 44 percent of their honey bee colonies during the year spanning April 2015 to April 2016, according to the latest preliminary results of an annual nationwide survey. • 21. Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to produce quality goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a better sense of variety when making purchases. Competition in its purest form creates small buyers and sellers none of which are too large to negatively affect the market as a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times when merchants competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and demand in a free market economy. They also believed that supply and demand worked better in a laissez faire type environment. This was possible through freedom to trade, transparent knowledge of market conditions, no government restrictions on trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions prevented any buyer or seller to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the mid 1800 s, limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would allow them to fix prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses became so large that they controlled enough market share to deceptively manipulate prices in their industry. This activity created an atmosphere for President Theodore Roosevelt to launch his famous trustbusting campaigns. The era of antitrust

The separation of powers in our government, is the balance that was put in place so that no branch has too much power, and that each branch can override a decision, that one branch makes when it comes to policy. The three branches are the executive branch, which deals with the president, the legislative branch which deals with the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the Judicial Branch, which deals with the Supreme Court. Each branch has a separate job to do, and can influence policy in different ways. For example, the Supreme Court had overruled a policy that had said that schools could separate kids due to the color of the skin. The Famous court case of Brown v. Board of Education changed this policy and allowed kids to go to the same school, regardless of the color of their skin. Many people across the country knew that the separate schools policy was wrong and the government did nothing to change it for many years. As a parallel to this, the elder (Sensei), sought an end to his social isolation through his love to a woman whose qualities were not tainted by modernity. K, Sensei s childhood friend, had also hinted his struggles in isolation as he tried to keep to his idealistic principles. This paper will analyze the isolation and loneliness that was faced by the Japanese people during a period of significant modernization and how they approached it and attempted to solve the conflict between tradition and modernity. Meiji Ishin was a time of revolution in 1868 that restored practical imperial order to Japan under Emperor Meiji, thus reconstructing the government. Many people had high hopes in this new order of government but the older generation was torn between their tradition and modernization. In Kokoro, Sensei was a character that illustrated loneliness and isolation in his individual struggles with this conflict. In the present, he said that he represented neither the new or old tradition but rather a representation of a person who was caught in between the traditional belief and modern belief. Here I quote, You see, I am an inconsistent person. This inconsistency may not be so much a natural part of my character as the effect that the remembrance of my own past has had on

The city of Mosul did not only need a complete make over, but also a regime that shared a mutual understanding as Petraeus. Lastly, with the city rebuilding changes would bring hostility and risk to the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. Depending on the part of the country, the size of the home and when it was built, the type of foundation may vary. Concrete slab foundations are the most common; some are built to sustain crawl spaces or basements. Other foundation types are pier and beam, pile and spread foundations. Any private donations made to the public health cause must first go through the government where where its true amount and value will be grossly reduced by taxes and fees on U.S. dollars, only then will it trickle down to its originally intended owners. Much like failed U.S. embargos in the past, the embargo on the undemocratized Cuban government only negatively affects the people as the government gains more power and influences the only

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coca Cola was the 1st international soft drinks brand to enter India in early 1970 s. Indian market was dominated by domestic brands, with Limca being the largest selling brand. Cola was the largest selling flavor with market share of 40%, Lemon drinks 31% and orange drinks only 19%. Up till 1977, Coca cola was the leading soft drink brand in India. But due to norms set by the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA), Coca Cola left India and did not return till 1993 after a 16 year absence from the Indian beverage market. FERA needed Coca Cola to reveal its secret concentrate formula as well as reduce its equity stake which was not acceptable. Pure drinks, Delhi launched Campa Cola, to take advantage of Coke s exit and by the end of 70 s, were the only Cola drink in the Indian market. In 1980, Parle, another major Indian player launched Thums Up, the drink which till date is most popular soft drink in India. Pure Drinks strongly objected to Thums Up being called a soft drink as it felt its taste is too strong. For over a decade, Parle led the Indian soft drinks market, with its market share reaching a peak of 70% in1990. Attempt 1: In May 1985, PepsiCo joined hands with the RPG group to form Agro

Stress strain curves for normal and lightweight concrete for the design of cross sections in Euro code: From the design concrete curve, it can be defined by multiplying the compressive strength with a coefficient factor Пѓcc and dividing the strength by a material safety factor of Оіc = 1.5. The coefficient Пѓcc is the effect of long term behavior on the compressive strength. It is, however, arguable that the reason for the using this factor is more related to the idealization of the shape of the stress strain curve as used for flexure than the nature of loading. Пѓcc is 0.85 of cylinder compressive strength and 0.67 for cube compressive strength. For the design of cross sections, the following stress strain relationship may be used figure (2.12), table (2.5) and Eq. (2.2), Eq. • 46. Summary Of Greasy Lake Essay Christine Berndt Ms. Granger English Comp 1A 29 November 2016 A Greasy Turnaround In T. Coraghessan Boyle s short story Greasy Lake , the reader is brought into an intense situation that occurs on one of the first nights during the young adult boy s summer vacation. The narrator, whose name is never revealed, is out on an adventurous night with his friends Digby and Jeff. While out, they find themselves discovering whether or not the idea of who they thought they wanted to be and, associate themselves with, was actually what they desired. This conveys the idea that fantasy and reality do not always correlate due to inevitable consequences.Michael Adams a British journalist for BBC described Boyle s upbringing as having a rebellious youth who played drums, sang in a rock and roll band, and drove fast cars . Along with this Adams states that Boyle Did not get along with his father, a school bus driver whose alcoholism killed him at age fifty four in 1972. Boyle s mother, a secretary, was also an alcoholic and died of liver failure . Greasers most often come from rough family backgrounds and find themselves indulging in fast cars, and enjoy mischievous activities such as drugs and alcohol. With the rough and untraditional childhood that T. C Boyle endured perhaps it inspired him to develop Greasy Lake . The stories central conflict arises when the characters head out to Greasy Lake after they did not find suitable entertainment elsewhere. When they
  • 47. Jane Eyre Wide Sargasso Sea Essay Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea haunts the narrative of Jane Eyre through the construction and recognition of the uncanny. Rhys incorporates the uncanny within her rewriting of Jane Eyre through the utilization of narrative devices and ambiguous representations of physical spaces. By rewriting Jane Eyre, Rhys attempts to construct a history that is not only detached from the dominant world established in Jane Eyre, but grounded within the hauntological realm of the Caribbean. The hauntological realm in which Rhys constructs, not only provides a degree of agency within a realm of uncertainty, but establishes a degree of restraint too. Megan Mericle argued that both Jane Eyre (1847) and Wide Sargasso Sea (1966) suggests the liberation of their respective female protagonist from the oppressive conventions in which they find themselves captive (Mericle 2012, 236). While BrontГ« s Jane Eyre asserts the independence of Jane Eyre to have derived through her escape from restrictive patriarchal conventions, Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea follows an alternative narrative where it is through repression that Antoinette ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette remains subject to Rochester s physical control. Rochester exercises this control through renaming Antoinette, Bertha (Rhys 2000, 86) and marionette (Rhys 2000, 99), to Antoinette s inevitable confinement with the Thornfield attic (Rhys 2000, 115). Although Antoinette is physically confined within the attic, Grace Poole does not fail to mention that Antoinette has not however lost her spirit (Rhys 2000,116). Therefore, we need to look beyond the realm of the physical in order to discover spaces of liberation, spaces that are interestingly secretive, haunted, or merely

The Moral Of Kings That Can Improve Our Means The Moral Of Kings That Can Improve our Means When I was in middle school and was just beginning to get involved with Volleyball in a general P.E. class, my friends and I had begun playing every day. At the time the school I was attending was just a Fine Arts Academy and had not began the process of making in Varsity sports teams. This lead to my friends and I, trying desperately to convince the dean into letting us start a Varsity level team. This was highly unlikely considering it was the first year the school was being opened and the district was still working on the funding for all of the different programs the school had to offer. The dean eventually made a deal with us and said if we were to start a sports team club and raise the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The more we can think of morals from different fables, the more we can strengthen our society. We have been known as an age that does not incorporate deep thoughts as well as an age that is unsuccessful within making our own decisions. Thinking of a moral like this is where we begin to make our change. By incorporating the not involved leader and not accepting the cruel leader. This generation has the power to make a change whether it is for the better or the worse. The more we change how we think of certain situations the less it will take for our futures to be enlightened. Fables have morals that can be heavily touched upon in society. Such stories like The Frogs Desiring a King, gives a background to how politics could and should work. The moral of this particular fable deals with the cruelty between leaders. I see this as modern example of the 2016 Presidential debate and the future in which Obama leaves office and if Trump gets elected president after. I feel the arguments about Obama will die down once society realizes that he was not that bad of a commander and chief compared to others in our modern day society. There were many reactions that The Frogs Desiring a King, had given me. The main one was that this could be, or would be how I could relate this to my society today. This reaction partially came from my recent involvement in politics and how I have become interested in who
