The Iphone And Other Smartphones
Technology has been a staple of the Bay Area's collective identity for several decades now, but not
all of its residents have been represented in this identity. The influx of technology–related jobs have
brought in new culture, new markets, and new opportunities, but people in lower economic classes
have been excluded from many of these developments. The smartphone is at the locus of this
change, for it functions as both the means and the ends of exclusion. In particular, the smartphone's
function of enabling users to use existing technologies in new contexts, more than any other
function, perpetuates existing class hierarchies. In analyzing this perpetuation brought on by familiar
software in new contexts, we will narrow our focus by broadening it; it is important to delineate the
difference between the iPhone and other smartphones, in order to show that the smartphone's ability
to allow users to use familiar software in new contexts is not exclusive to the iPhone. The only
barrier to owning a smartphone in a place like the Bay Area is money. In other areas where cell
phone reception is less avaliable, there might be a barrier of initial access to the services of internet
and cell phone reception to consider, but in the Bay Area, money is sufficient (although perhaps all
it would take to bypass the additional barriers of other locations is more money). Therefore, with the
understanding that the iPhone is more expensive than most other smartphones, we can separate the

Pros And Cons Of Smartphones
Smartphones have become an ubiquitous item across the globe and with them a ubiquitous societal
problem. Since the introduction of the first smartphone in 2007, the world has changed for better
and for worse. Never before had information been able to spread so quickly and easily. Since the
smartphone's genesis, the accessibility to information, communication and smartphones themselves
have only been innovated upon to make the world wide network we have today. As technology
increases and the competition between manufacturers escalates, more and more people obtain a
smartphone. There are advantages to the globalisation that smartphones have achieved, though it is
not all for the better. The explicitly observable drawbacks to the use of smartphones have proven
them to be a hindrance to the wellbeing of society. People as a whole justify their actions in any way
that they can. This justification muddles our perception of what is really happening to ourselves and
the environment around us. An addict does not want to see himself as an addict. An abuser does not
want to see himself as an abuser. A shopaholic does not want to see himself as an addict to
consumerism. We do not want to admit our faults even though others see them and bring them to our
attention––it is instinct to defend ourselves and justify our actions. The same is with smartphones.
The evidence is all around us as most people in the United States have a smartphone, yet we
rationalize why we need smartphones. In

First Concept Of A Smartphone
The very first concept of a smartphone is said to have been envisioned back in the mid–1970s, but
that idea didn't come into fruition until almost 20 years later when IBM's Simon Personal
Communicator first showed its face in 1992. Simon had a monochrome touchscreen, a stylus, and a
charging base station. When using data, you could expect to charge the phone after about 60 minutes
of use (P. 7). Nokia entered the not–yet–developed smartphone space in 1996. It released the Nokia
9000 Communicator to the world, a 1.5–inch thick, 397g phone with an outward facing dial pad,
navigation keys, and monochromatic display. Unlike Simon, from the outside, the 9000
Communicator looked almost like a run–of–the–mill cell phone from 1996 (P. 10). In the early
2000s, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile (then known as PocketPC 2000)
became increasingly popular. With capabilities such as email, fax, Web browsing, and other
enterprise–centric features, so did form factors that catered to such use cases. Between 2000 and
2006, cell phone manufacturers eagerly explored dozens of different form factors to capitalize on the
new mobile functionality. Sliding and flipping keyboards, rotating displays, wafer–style phones with
displays positioned above permanent, vertical keyboards, and even phones with multiple keyboards
abounded. Resistive touchscreen displays found their way onto smartphones, and the popularity of
the stylus was born, almost out of sheer need as these early model

Samsung Smartphone Vs Smartphones
In the twenty–first century, smartphones have already become an essential instrument in human life
that even some debate whether which phone brand is superior: Apple or Samsung? Interestingly,
before this argument even started between each of the companies devotee's, little did the majority of
the public knew that the first smartphone was invented in 1992 by IBM. At the time, it consisted of
programs like an email service, calculator and even a touch screen. However the smartphone
business remained idle after the tech company sold the phones for a costly price, which people could
not afford at the time. It was not until 2007 when Steve Jobs revived the smartphone with the
invention of the first iPhone. Since then, more companies began to produce phones that would equal
Apple's standards, and that would lead the world to one of the most intense rivalries of Apple and
Samsung and their battle for authenticity. While Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy phones are
two of the world's most popular types of smartphones and have altered the way how people
communicate, their features, reliability and price ranges set them apart from one another.
Since the breakthrough of the initial Apple and Samsung smartphones, both companies have
garnered millions of buyers from all around the globe. According to Sam Mattera of Fool, "
Samsung's Galaxy brand and Apple's iPhone are ubiquitous. Combined, the firms produced more
than one–third of all smartphones sold globally [in the second quarter

Smartphones Dependence
The Dependence of People on Smartphones.
The excessive use of smartphones has not only changed the way we see technology but also the way
we live our lives. In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people who
loved technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical keypad
to work or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were added to
this cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device almost
instantly because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Even though
this cellphone was a pioneer in a new era revolutionizing the idea of a physical keypad to enter

Another major and maybe one of the most influential impacts of the smartphones in our society
nowadays is a system called face time or video calling, it is supposed to keep friends not just in
touch but face to face using a smartphone device to see each other live. Personally, I believe face
time isn't really that bad when it comes to staying in touch with friends who live far away but I have
also noticed some friends who live maybe 1 mile or 2 away from each other using face time instead
to going to each other's houses and have a conversation and enjoy friendship like in good old times
now with this technology that it supposed to be facilitating our lives seems to be depriving us from
life itself.
In Conclusion, I would first like to state that the reason I feel this way about smartphones is because
I used to depend on the use of my smartphone more than the use of any other book, the opinion of
any other person, or sometimes common sense itself. I had become addicted to the use of my
smartphone and didn't know I was excessively using my device to accomplish tasks that I would do
before without the need of this device,

Smartphone Ethical Issues
"Smart" is the word which has been used in the past couple of years for electronic devices used in
day to day life which faced a revolutionary transformation over the years. The time was when Apple
introduced its revolutionary phone as "iPhone" in 2007, which made all consumer electronics
makers to think out of the current imagination. From then on, phones used in the last decade started
to become smartphones, TVs to smart TVs and on that chain, by now we have smart watches and
smart homes too. The topic "Is smartphone only a phone?" was chosen to critically analyze how
phones have changed the world and the people living on it after it became smartphones. The lifestyle
of people has changed extensively after the extent of smartphones, which transformed the society to
a new generation. Transformation of a society does not bring only changes in people's behavior, it
also brought new laws and regulations, range of code of conduct and various ethical issues. From
many issues only few will be discussed here to match the given word limitation and the scope. All
the issues mentioned under four different categories are critically analyzed using evidences from
authentic sources and opinions and arguments of different writers have been discussed using the
ethical framework. 1. Issues in Smartphones Whenever a new technology that can be claimed as a
game changer is introduced, one thing that leads most people to adopt that technology is the
curiosity inside them. Especially when

Persuasive Essay On Smartphones
Everywhere you go you see it, people glued to their smartphones. Understandably, smartphones are
amazing with dealing with boredom, so much that it has become an essential tool for mobile
entertainment. Smartphones have changed the way we go about our daily life and with that comes
into the territory of addiction and reliability, especially in the lives of younger kids. The question is,
why do we even consider giving these enslaving devices to kids whose brains aren't even close to
fully developed? The main reason parents give their kids smartphones and even tablets is because
it's an easy way to keep them entertained or quiet. Caving in, which is something that is not only
going to hurt yourself but also the child. Some may even say that smartphones and tablets are
actually a great source for learning and helps children. Smartphones and tablets are a great tool for
learning, but giving these devices to kids is the same thing as handing them drugs. These
smartphones and devices we give to kids can create mental health issues. Julie Evens, a child
psychotherapist for 25 years, isn't anti–technology yet she is against the negative side effects it has
on our young saying "It is battering our children's brains." Which makes kids miss out on "kindness,
acceptance, conversation, face–to–face, nature, nurture" (qtd. In Stanford). Moreover, Farnum, a 49–
year–old father, came to the realization that the smartphones he gave his kids were changing them
stating "There were some real problems," and then told The Washington post "If you tell them to
watch the screen time, all of a sudden the fangs come out." (qtd. In Mettler). Once you give a kid
one of these devices they can change into a completely different person and worse of all, these
changes are happening when they are still developing. Some developmental traits can prove useful,
although there are many scary traits that overcome the them that may prove more serious than just
handing over something for their entertainment. Jean Twenge, a San Diego State University
professor of psychology and author, shows the statistic of teen electronic device use saying "Teens
who spend three hours a day or more on electronic devices are 35 percent more likely to have a risk

Speech On Smartphones
Every single one of us owns a smartphone or uses a phone a close relative of ours owns. If you deny
this, there is a very high chance you are lying because over 75 percent of teens have access to
smartphones. We are always told by our parents that we spend too much time on our phones and it's
true. Kids as young as three are learning to watch YouTube. As a result, smartphones can be
detrimental to our health. This raises concerns among researchers and even parents: how young is
too young for a smart Phones? A study conducted by researchers in NYU showed that the
electromagnetic waves emitted by cell phones can cause cell mutations which leads to genetic
disorders that can harm you and even spread to offspring. It can especially be harmful to toddlers
whose bodies are still developing. Cells have a higher chance of replicating these cells affected by
electromagnetic waves as certain organs grow to their max. Another article published by business
insider revealed that blue light coming from phones can slowly deteriorate our vision and can cause
blindness. Yes, you read that right –– blindness. A 40 year old reported to a doctor that she lost her
vision in her left eye for 15 minutes every morning. Doctors found out that the cause was because of
her unhealthy phone habits. The blue lights from the phone and her dark environment were
deteriorating her retinas. Many of the researchers noted that one should stay away from phones
before going to bed. Jeff Taylor, a medical director from YourSightMatters.com states [hones should
especially be taken away from kids who have not yet reached puberty because the eyes are still
developing. Not only that, but studies showed that the blue lights can cause insomnia, cataracts, and
takes a toll on mental health. Hence, parents should make an effort to ensure their teens (specifically
anyone who has not finished their puberty phases) spend limited time on phones during the day and
to avoid using phones at night. One of the biggest health concerns associated with smartphone use is
the rise of mental health disorders. Today's teens are not spending as much time with their friends in
person, face–to–face, where they can really read each others' emotions and get that social

The Effect Of Smartphone On Adolescents
The Effect of Smartphone on Adolescents With all the advancements in technology taking place
there has been a lot of good that has come with it. Modern medicine, automobiles, and the cell
phone which allows people to connect instantly. However with all the good things that have come
with technology, there have also been bad things as well. One such thing would be cyberbullying
and the addiction of smartphones. Smartphones have affected adolescents in ways previously not
thought possible, such as causing poor social skills, addiction, and being used to cyberbully.
Adolescents must be educated about the responsibility that comes with owning a smartphone.

From having good grades, to studying for the ACT, in addition to trying to fit into the social aspect
in high school a teens life has never been more hard. And the invention of the smartphone has only
added to the amount of stress that a teen has to deal with. The smartphone has created an
environment in which adolescents are always connected with those they go to highschool with,
through the use of social media. For example if a bully were to be picking on a student at school the
student could not just go home and forget about the incident, but now the bully has the ability to
abuse that student at any point he/she desires. These types of incidents are creating a new wave of
problems for adolescents and their parents, Nojiri Matthew interviewed Rick Wolf (assistant
superintendent at Mifflin School district) explaining "The increase in social media use has added
another element when identifying and caring for kids dealing with anxiety, depression, eating
disorders, attention–deficit/hyperactivity disorder and other mental health disorders, Wolf said"
(Wolf). The smartphone is the catalyst to these problems. If you were to take away the smartphone
problems such as cyberbullying would be less of an issue. However adolescents these days are given
smartphones at such a young age, with no supervision on how long they use it throughout the day,
that it becomes second nature to be looking at it every minute of everyday checking their social
media profiles.

Smartphone Apps Essay
Smartphone Apps: A New Era of Health Care In this current generation based on technology, there
is a rapid growth in the use of smartphones, which has opened a new world of opportunities for use
in behavioral health care. As of 2017, over forty–five million adults suffer from mental illnesses in
the United States ("Data on Behavioral Health"). Health–based smartphone applications have
become available for tracking treatment progress, psychoeducation, symptom assessment, and
resource location. The information gathered can be used to reduce health risks and optimize health
outcomes (Arora et al). However, there is little information available regarding the integration of
smartphones and other technology into health care. This has led to ... Show more content on

These apps can also be implemented into conventional manualized treatments and can serve as
therapists' extended arm into the daily life of their patient. For example, the eMoods Bipolar Mood
Tracker app is programmed to document hours of sleep, anxiety levels, and medication use to
generate reports that are sent back to health professionals (Luxton et al.). The information collected
could be analyzed and used to optimize patients' positive health outcomes. The convenience of the
latest smartphone technology allows patients to enjoy therapy and provide a better experience in
bettering their mental health. A conflict that some mental health patients face is the stigmatism of
needing therapy for their illness. Therefore, smartphone health–based applications offer those
specific patients an innovative way to receive treatment. Apps such as Headspace, a popular
meditation app, allow those who seek for a more mindful lifestyle without requiring any interaction
with strangers. This allows them to remain in the comfort of their home, or at almost any location if
they are on the go. The app's scientific basis is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and
neuroimaging studies have begun to identify the brain areas associated with the positive effects of
mindfulness meditation (Haug). It is now well established that "guided self–help treatment can be as
effective as face–to–face psychotherapy for mild to moderate depressive symptoms"

Smartphones And Relationships

it affect our relationships with others? In the article "Smartphones and Relationships" by Mandy
Oaklander of Time Health, Mandy states that smartphones are destroying relationships. Oaklander
states that phones can sabotage your relationship or attachment to others. For the most part I
disagree, but I believe that smartphones help relationships rather than sabotage them. Many people
use their devices for work or for other tasks, or for leisure while waiting for something or when
nothing is happening. Smartphones have many utilities for getting things done, whether it's for work
or off time, and are tools that are there to help us. If people are

Smartphones Destroyed A Generation
Today's teens are becoming both physically and mentally ill due to excessive phone usage.Today's
teens are becoming mentally sick as they are due to teens spending a crazy amount of time on social
media making them feel left out and depressed. Also, today's millennials are in a dangerous physical
level because they are spending plenty of time on social media and forgetting to exercise. I believe
that phones are dangerous to everyone in our world as it makes them less physically fit and mentally
sick. One of my main concerns about phones is that it is generating a whole generation of millennial
and teens to suffer mentally. According to the The Atlantic: Have Smartphones Destroyed a
Generation,"The more time teens spend looking at screens, the more likely they are to report
symptoms of depression."Just disappointing to see how the smartphones that people are buying to be

Disadvantages Of Smartphones
(Dis)Connected Savanna M Sisson Introduction to Psychology October 28th, 2017 In the article
(Dis)connected by Kirsten Weir, she states 72% of U.S. adults reported owning a smartphone in
2015 (Weir 2017). Smartphones are causing people to suffer from lack of sleep, a short attention–
span, and a lowering well being. Those are the downsides of smartphones and some benefits
include; easily portable, productivity boosting devices. Smartphones are used not only as phones,
but as clocks, internet browsers, messaging services, calendars, cameras, alarm clocks, road maps
and video players. (Weir 2017). The module in our textbook states that light affects our sleep
patterns in the circadian rhythm is the reason for people suffering from lack of sleep, a short
attention span, and a lowering well being. This topic is important because it affects the majority of
the population, especially the coming generations as well as the growing magnitude of this issue and
its negative effects on our society and specific individuals. In the following paragraphs I'll explain
why smartphones are considered "sleep stealers", research strategies, and how smart phone usage
can be rewarding and the potential downsides of smartphone use. Smartphone are considered to be
"sleep stealers" because they keep people from getting the sleep they need, the emit a blue light that
is said to affect the sleep–regulating hormone called melatonin. People who get on their phone
before bed tend to sleep poorly and be less engaged in their activities the next day. A survey done by
Russell E. Johnson found that when people use smartphones at night for work–related activities,
they reported they had slept more poorly and were less engaged at work the next day. These results
were greater with people who used their smartphones than those who used tablets or laptops. (Weir
2017) Bright lights affect our sleepiness by activating light sensitive retinal proteins which then
signals the brain's suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) to decrease production of melatonin. (Myers &
DeWall 2016). We sleep because it helps us protect, it helps us recuperate, sleep helps us restore and

Another feature of smartphones is that we can use it as a safety tracking device and GPS. You could
sleep over at your friend's house and check in with your parents any time through facetime or any

Smartphone Addiction Essay
Over the past years, improper smartphone usage has been a widespread concernedly problem among
teens and college students. According to Hawi and Samaha (2016), "Smartphones are becoming an
integral part of the lives of all age worldwide. People feel inseparable from their smartphones" (p.
321). Problematic smartphone use are considered as an "important indicators that someone is on the
path to smartphone addiction" (Cevik, Gokcearslan, Haslaman, & Mumcu, 2016, p. 640). As the
emergence of smartphone addiction, a great deal of negative effects come along as well. Researchers
have worked to figure out the causal factors of smartphone addiction from both academic and
psychological field. In the meantime, social media becomes a controversial topic among researchers
since students spend most of their smartphone time on social media application. The question that
whether social media is beneficial for students' life is highly debated. Students now have many ways
to communication because of the rapid growth of communication technology. "Cell phones and
smartphones are used for both sending text messages and talking, while online communication
methods such as email, chat and social networking provide additional methods to keep in touch"
(Robinson & Stubberub, 2012, p. 105). Cell phone, as a powerful tool, provides college students

The Theories Of The Smartphone Market
Introduction Smartphone market is an emerging important market and is experiencing a wave of
transformation with the emergence of new players (Basole and Karla, 2011). The competition
among the smartphone markets is no longer simply through physical devices but though ecosystems,
or platforms. This essay is going to look at the evolution of the market so far including how it will
evolve in the future, whether a few firms will eventually dominate the market as well as the core
business strategy is applied to the firms. The two main economic theories I will employ are the
theory of monopolistic competition and the theory of network effects. While the former will give an
understanding of the first stage of competition in the smartphone market, the latter will explain the
evolution of the smartphone market. Moreover, the integration of these two theories will give a clear
illustration of how competitions change from physical products to platforms. At the end of the essay,

Negative Features Of A Smartphone
The development of Smartphones plays a vital role in society, particularly for educational purposes.
The advanced features of a smartphone such as social media applications have become a powerful
instrument in academic life (Vazquez Cano, 2014). Without the help of smartphone applications,
education would be challenging to manage (Odom, 2016). Furthermore, smartphone companies such
as Apple, Google, and Microsoft provide a source of learning and useful teaching techniques in
school (Odom, 2016). Smartphones should advance without a limit because the ultimate benefits of
the smartphone are significant for educational purposes. The benefits of a smartphone are that it can
help motivate students to learn efficiently, support alternative teaching environments, and provide
assessment opportunities to the students. The smartphone technology motivates students to learn
efficiently in school (Odom, 2016). One beneficial feature that smartphones can provide is the
convenience of social interaction and communication between the students (Odom, 2016). Odom
(2016) indicates that social communication through developing social media applications on
smartphones contributes to learning efficiency. Indeed, a study by Wankel et al. (2013) found that
mobile software applications such as Skype, a software application that students can use to
communicate via voice or group conferencing, video conferencing, and data (text message)
conversation, allows students to communicate/collaborate, which

The Pros And Dangers Of Smartphones
Throwing away your smartphone and getting a flip phone would be a horrible decision that would
put you at many social and worldly disadvantages. Smartphones have many safety measures that
will keep you safe in day to life, and if you were ever in danger. Also, smartphones give you many
social opportunities that a flip phone couldn't come close to. Lastly, they have a multitude of useful
and fun utilities at your fingertips. When making a decision on a what type of phone to purchase,
you should choose the one best for the lifestyles of the world, and that would be a smartphone. All
of these reasons are why I believe the smartphone is the best choice for everyone in today's busy
world.
To begin with, there are an enormous amount of safety measure that will help you in harmful and
ordinary situations. For example, if you lose your smartphone, such as an apple smartphone, you can
just go to any other apple device or phone store and use the Find My iPhone app. This app will show
you exactly where your phone is located. Even if you do not have an Apple smartphone, the other
brands of smartphones also have many apps and ways to find your phone. However, if you lose your
flip phone you will just be out of luck. Also, if someone were to steal your smartphone, they would
be less likely to get into your phone and contacts because of the extra safety measures. Such as,
touch I.D., which will only take the fingerprints you have added into your phone to let it open. If

become so successful that business persons and employees would develop trouble imagining
business operations without them. Some of the factors attributed to this extensive use of the
smartphone are the growing need for technological advancements by individuals. In some societies,
the smartphone is used in social class ranking. Those who possessed the smartphones were
considered wealthier than those who didn't. The smartphones, being a very new invention of
humanity, has become an inherent part of human's life. The smartphone is a combination of different
sophisticated features. It allows users to keep memories, pictures, personal info, correspondence,
health and financial data in one place. Smartphones also became an integral part of modern
telecommunications facilities. In some regions of the world, they are the most reliable or only of
available phones. Today, the smartphones have gained even more important uses with sophisticated
features than ten years ago. Nearly all smartphones today use the touch screen controls instead of
the original hardware buttons. The benefit of smartphones is a variable closely related to the demand
(Wong, 646). Therefore the increased advantages of the smartphones have eventfully transpired to
their high requirements in the global market. Moreover, when contemplating the switch from the

the old fashioned phones have dropped in popularity to the point where they are seen as antiques.

sure that what you're choosing is the best option for you, because they are not all the same and they
all have different advantages to offer. Therefore, instead of going to the store and buying a
smartphone only based on the fact that it's popular among your friends, read the following lines to
find out what you have to consider to make the best choice for your needs.
Operating system
There are a number of different operating systems out there, but the best of them and the ones that
you should be considering when buying your new smartphone are Google's Android, Microsoft's
Windows Phone, and Apple's IOS. These 3 are the heavy weight champions on the market, and no
matter which one of them you choose you're ensured to have a great operating system that will make
your smartphone run perfectly, not crashing whenever you enter a game or when you watch a video

According to Rysavy (2010), a smartphone is a clever device with high–quality services that is
portable, user–friendly, interactive and most importantly beneficial. Smartphones have made it
possible to make simple task easy and accessible but has also made it a target to malware
developers. And while smartphones are great weavers of communication it can become a nuisance
to those who value face–to–face communication. Currently, the smartphone industry in the
Philippines is rapidly growing due to the emergence of technology and communication needs of the
society. There are two major Smartphone brands have emerged as competing brands: Samsung and
Apple.
With the invention and launch of the iPhone and Samsung, it started a boom of smartphones
throughout the world. Different manufacturers strive to prefect the perfect phone in order to
commend their dominance in the smartphone industry. A perfect phone nowadays does not only
include the actual notion of communicating with someone but has to have internet, games, a high

In a world where happiness is one of the things that we strive to have, the people in the world try to
find their own happiness in false things. The article "Balk: Cell Phone...Smartphone" by Tim Balk,
Tim discusses the topic of phone use in the world today. He makes some great points about how the
use of phones has disrupted our world by making the younger generations think that they cannot
have a fun time with the people around them without their phones to record those moments, and
share them with the world. I completely agree with Tim's argument. Our world has become a place
where we show more rudeness, than love towards each other. When at a kitchen table or out

Negative Effects Of Smartphones
In the past 20 years there has been a significant increase in technology and technological
dependency. A large portion of this dependency has been derived from smartphones, which have
been dominating the phone market, primarily since the iPhone was introduced in 2007. There is
nothing inherently wrong with smartphones, however they are causing more harm than help to this
society. Smartphones and the dependency humans hold with them have become detrimental to
society through creating a decline in human interaction, emphasizing value on inanimate objects,
and ultimately creating a greater and more dangerous distraction than it's worth.
Today, laziness and efficiency are incredibly prevalent, if an easier option is available it will be
taken at all costs; this is where technology comes in. Technology, smartphones specifically, create an
outlet to communicate with other people at any place, at any given point in the day. In theory, the
idea of instantaneous communication is great and efficient, the issue with this is it eliminates face to
face interactions amongst humans. When one of the most basic human connections is ripped away,
one cannot expect a society to thrive. Technology has created a wall for humans to hide behind, so
much so that when face to face interaction is needed people are incapable of conducting themselves
in an appropriate manner. Smartphones are creating more awkward silences, more uncomfortable
conversations, and frankly phasing out the ability for one to

Smartphones And The Social Phone
Do you have a smartphone? Do all of your friends have smartphones? Do you know anyone who
doesn't have a smartphone? Well, neither do I. But isn't our prized possession and dearest friend Mr.
smartphone making us rather dumb? Isn't it harming us in more ways than we care to acknowledge?
Then isn't it time we did something to save ourselves and the future generations. If we were to go
back into our childhood, we would recollect how often we used to go to our friends' and relatives'
homes to spend the evening or day with them. Now we never felt the need to check with them
beforehand if we could drop by. We used to spend time with each other in face to face
communication and our relationships were stronger, closer and more honest. But today we hardly
visit any family and friends and all meetings and conversations are through the smartphone on the
social media. No wonder the relationships are fickle, superficial and do not last for long. For this
very reason, people of all most all age group are lonely and socially isolated. Well, the worst part is
that not many realize they are trapped by the smartphone, which substitutes a full social life full of
values and bonhomie with a false sense of reality. Do you remember how tongue–tied you were

Effect Of Smartphones On Advertising
Dr. Fusani
Zack Mineo
Spring 2016
The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled
within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.("2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic"). As the number
of users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones
have dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we
can understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that
advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it
will further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the
advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is?
Background of advertising
Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the
goal of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik "Advertising is any form
of nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for by an
identified sponsor."(Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates back to 1922
when the Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to
commend living in country lots from Queensboro Realty. (Dominick 179). Since then advertising
has grown rapidly especially during the time of the depression and World War II. President Franklin
D Roosevelt wanted

The Tranformation of the Smartphone
1. INTRODUCTION
In the history of smartphones, the revolutionary technologies have made a agreat transformation
from the giant brick–structure smartphones in 1995 to slim and stylish form factor nowadays. Over
the past few decades ago, smartphones become more abundant, for instance, 300 million units were
sold world–wide in 2010 [] while one out of two Americans started using smartphones mobile
phones in the year 2011 []. This has caused Smart mobile operating system (OS) to become a
blazing hot issue, after Apple reintroduced the term "Smart" in a phone in the year 2007. An
Android phone manufacturer, Samsung, sold 319.8 million units 32.2 percent, a 15% increase from
2012 whereas Apple sold 153.5 million iPhones worldwide with a 15.5 % market share. In the year
2013 alone, global smart phones shipments boost up 41 percent to reach a record–high 990 million
units according to the Thomson Reuters, the world's largest international multimedia news.
However, under the hood of market statistics, an enormous technical progress has been made since
the inception of mobile devices. As the performance of the mobile device becomes significantly
increased, the potential use of such devices is also tremendous. As a result, the developers are now
facing the challenge of designing not only hardware architectures but also complex software. One of
the most challenging problems is to design a well usable smartphone. For instance, the process of
designing the graphical user interface of a

whether we need directions, need to text a friend, or even buy a ticket to a movie or theme park we

This mobile phone was the first phone to incorporate PDA (personal digital assistant) features,
which was demonstrated that year at the COMDEX computer industry trade show. In addition to the
PDA features, the phone also included visionary apps such as maps, stocks and news. Soon after the
release of the prototype, a refined version was introduced to consumers, the Simon Personal
Communicator. The Simon Personal Communicator first revealed its face in 1992 and was the first
cellular device that can be properly referred to as a "smartphone" even though it was not called that
when it was initially released. Simon came with a monochrome touchscreen, a stylus, and a charging
base station. It went on sale in 1993 through BellSouth Cellular for an enormous price of $899 with
a two–year agreement or $1,099 without contract. IBM sold approximately 50,000 Simon units.
Nokia entered the not–yet–developed smartphone space in 1996. It released the Nokia 9000
Communicator to the market, a 1.5–inch thick, 14 ounce phone with an outward facing dial pad,
navigation keys, and monochromatic display. Unlike the Simon Personal Communicator, the 9000
Communicator looked almost like a run–of–the–mill cell phone from 1996. However, along the left
edge, was a hinge which opened to a full QWERTY keyboard and physical navigation buttons
neighboring a much larger display. The Nokia 9000 Communicator, like the Simon, was also not

Negative Effect Smartphones
Nowadays, more and more people have their own smartphones and the time they spend using their
phones is rising. The number of smartphone users are forecast to grow from 2.1 billion in 2016 to

(source) Thus, in this essay, I will discuss how smartphones can have a negative effect on people's
social skills. Smartphones make people lose their patience easily because people received so much
information everyday. Many children receiver their smartphones when they just 6 years ago, they
are subjected to a variety of information everyday whether good or not. In addition, they can read
more than one information at the same time which mean they maybe cannot concentrate on one
thing. And with the progress of science and technology, the speed of people accept information is
rapidly increasing. This phenomenon could lead to a serious problem which is people would lose
their patience. Based on professor Frank Partnoy says: "The crush of technology drives us to make

Negative Effects Of Smartphones
With the evolution of today's technology, widespread smartphone use did not begin until the mid–
to–late 90's. Smartphones, being readily available, offer society a world of conveniences. This
technology combines that of a computer with other electronic goods into a single handheld
instrument. While one may argue that the smartphone has many negative effects, far more benefits
come to mind. The smartphone does offer users several conveniences that make life easier and more
efficient. It seems smartphones add value to people and businesses, as well as provide benefits to
improve the quality of life using various functions. Today's smartphones allow users to stay in touch
with family and friends no matter what part of the world they reside. In times of emergencies,
smartphones can even help users feel safe. The technology of today's smartphone has enabled
society to become more efficient in daily activities, communicate more effectively, as well as
provide relief in emergencies.

Smartphone Disadvantages
In our world today, smartphones have become an important device in today's technological world.
Mobile devices are always at our fingertips, we use it for almost everything. Some employees work
at home on their devices and even at work. A lot of companies are also depending on the use of
mobile devices in enhancing efficiency and productivity at their workplace. In this discussion, I will
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of allowing employees to use their personal smartphones
for work. Also, I will discuss what management, organizations, and technological factors should be
addressed when deciding whether to allow employees use their phones for work. I will furthermore
compare the BYOD experience of Michelin North America and Rosendin Electric. And lastly, I will
discuss why allowing employees to use their smartphones for work would save the company money.
The advantages of allowing employees to use their smartphones for work: Time management is
always a big factor. It helps save the employees and the companies a lot of time, the employee can
work on the smartphones from anywhere, making it more efficient, and getting a lot more work
done. For example, an employee (store keeper) can order for supplies from his smartphone at home
or while on its way to work. It also saves the company money and allow the same benefits of a
mobile workforce. Employees are always more happier and very productive when giving the
flexibility of using a smartphone for work. The disadvantages are very numerous to overcome. The
companies have to figure out the logistic of overcoming the hurdles of security, support, the
inventory management, and the function ability of the phones. The vulnerability of the company
data when employees loose their phones and when the data are not readily accessible by employees.
The IT department has to be involved to restore or fix the phone, consuming time and money. The
company has to worry about hackers, threatening the company data and network. Management
should ensure that whenever their employees get a new phone, change their phone carries, or change
numbers, IT department should make sure that their phone is updated to company standard and that

Advantages Of Using Smartphones
A lot has been said about how employees' use of smartphone can enhance business, but there's much
more than just employee productivity. There is a whole world in which smartphone and mobile
device use is transforming the way that people like customers, partners, investors interact with the
business. There are many ways in which a smartphone can improve a business and how it already
improved business. I will now list some. First of all smartphones have easy access to social
networking it is actually the basis of social networking. Most people use smartphones to get into
Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as examples. That allows businesses to use social networks to
their advantage. For example a business may communicate to other people through twitter to answer
questions or get feedback. The business owner himself can easily communicate with other people
and smartphones just make that easier. Since you have a smartphone you will be able to get into
social media at anytime and anywhere. Using social media improves the business in many ways.
First way is it helps make marketing easier. For example you can post an advertisement or an
announcement and it will reach people easier and through social media they can share it with others
which will help you get more popularity. Another advantage for using social media on smartphones
is it can allow on the go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Iphone And Other Smartphones

  • 1. The Iphone And Other Smartphones Technology has been a staple of the Bay Area's collective identity for several decades now, but not all of its residents have been represented in this identity. The influx of technology–related jobs have brought in new culture, new markets, and new opportunities, but people in lower economic classes have been excluded from many of these developments. The smartphone is at the locus of this change, for it functions as both the means and the ends of exclusion. In particular, the smartphone's function of enabling users to use existing technologies in new contexts, more than any other function, perpetuates existing class hierarchies. In analyzing this perpetuation brought on by familiar software in new contexts, we will narrow our focus by broadening it; it is important to delineate the difference between the iPhone and other smartphones, in order to show that the smartphone's ability to allow users to use familiar software in new contexts is not exclusive to the iPhone. The only barrier to owning a smartphone in a place like the Bay Area is money. In other areas where cell phone reception is less avaliable, there might be a barrier of initial access to the services of internet and cell phone reception to consider, but in the Bay Area, money is sufficient (although perhaps all it would take to bypass the additional barriers of other locations is more money). Therefore, with the understanding that the iPhone is more expensive than most other smartphones, we can separate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Smartphones Smartphones have become an ubiquitous item across the globe and with them a ubiquitous societal problem. Since the introduction of the first smartphone in 2007, the world has changed for better and for worse. Never before had information been able to spread so quickly and easily. Since the smartphone's genesis, the accessibility to information, communication and smartphones themselves have only been innovated upon to make the world wide network we have today. As technology increases and the competition between manufacturers escalates, more and more people obtain a smartphone. There are advantages to the globalisation that smartphones have achieved, though it is not all for the better. The explicitly observable drawbacks to the use of smartphones have proven them to be a hindrance to the wellbeing of society. People as a whole justify their actions in any way that they can. This justification muddles our perception of what is really happening to ourselves and the environment around us. An addict does not want to see himself as an addict. An abuser does not want to see himself as an abuser. A shopaholic does not want to see himself as an addict to consumerism. We do not want to admit our faults even though others see them and bring them to our attention––it is instinct to defend ourselves and justify our actions. The same is with smartphones. The evidence is all around us as most people in the United States have a smartphone, yet we rationalize why we need smartphones. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. First Concept Of A Smartphone The very first concept of a smartphone is said to have been envisioned back in the mid–1970s, but that idea didn't come into fruition until almost 20 years later when IBM's Simon Personal Communicator first showed its face in 1992. Simon had a monochrome touchscreen, a stylus, and a charging base station. When using data, you could expect to charge the phone after about 60 minutes of use (P. 7). Nokia entered the not–yet–developed smartphone space in 1996. It released the Nokia 9000 Communicator to the world, a 1.5–inch thick, 397g phone with an outward facing dial pad, navigation keys, and monochromatic display. Unlike Simon, from the outside, the 9000 Communicator looked almost like a run–of–the–mill cell phone from 1996 (P. 10). In the early 2000s, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile (then known as PocketPC 2000) became increasingly popular. With capabilities such as email, fax, Web browsing, and other enterprise–centric features, so did form factors that catered to such use cases. Between 2000 and 2006, cell phone manufacturers eagerly explored dozens of different form factors to capitalize on the new mobile functionality. Sliding and flipping keyboards, rotating displays, wafer–style phones with displays positioned above permanent, vertical keyboards, and even phones with multiple keyboards abounded. Resistive touchscreen displays found their way onto smartphones, and the popularity of the stylus was born, almost out of sheer need as these early model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Samsung Smartphone Vs Smartphones In the twenty–first century, smartphones have already become an essential instrument in human life that even some debate whether which phone brand is superior: Apple or Samsung? Interestingly, before this argument even started between each of the companies devotee's, little did the majority of the public knew that the first smartphone was invented in 1992 by IBM. At the time, it consisted of programs like an email service, calculator and even a touch screen. However the smartphone business remained idle after the tech company sold the phones for a costly price, which people could not afford at the time. It was not until 2007 when Steve Jobs revived the smartphone with the invention of the first iPhone. Since then, more companies began to produce phones that would equal Apple's standards, and that would lead the world to one of the most intense rivalries of Apple and Samsung and their battle for authenticity. While Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy phones are two of the world's most popular types of smartphones and have altered the way how people communicate, their features, reliability and price ranges set them apart from one another. Since the breakthrough of the initial Apple and Samsung smartphones, both companies have garnered millions of buyers from all around the globe. According to Sam Mattera of Fool, " Samsung's Galaxy brand and Apple's iPhone are ubiquitous. Combined, the firms produced more than one–third of all smartphones sold globally [in the second quarter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Smartphones Dependence The Dependence of People on Smartphones. The excessive use of smartphones has not only changed the way we see technology but also the way we live our lives. In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people who loved technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical keypad to work or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were added to this cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device almost instantly because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Even though this cellphone was a pioneer in a new era revolutionizing the idea of a physical keypad to enter numbers did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another major and maybe one of the most influential impacts of the smartphones in our society nowadays is a system called face time or video calling, it is supposed to keep friends not just in touch but face to face using a smartphone device to see each other live. Personally, I believe face time isn't really that bad when it comes to staying in touch with friends who live far away but I have also noticed some friends who live maybe 1 mile or 2 away from each other using face time instead to going to each other's houses and have a conversation and enjoy friendship like in good old times now with this technology that it supposed to be facilitating our lives seems to be depriving us from life itself. In Conclusion, I would first like to state that the reason I feel this way about smartphones is because I used to depend on the use of my smartphone more than the use of any other book, the opinion of any other person, or sometimes common sense itself. I had become addicted to the use of my smartphone and didn't know I was excessively using my device to accomplish tasks that I would do before without the need of this device, ... • 13. Smartphone Ethical Issues "Smart" is the word which has been used in the past couple of years for electronic devices used in day to day life which faced a revolutionary transformation over the years. The time was when Apple introduced its revolutionary phone as "iPhone" in 2007, which made all consumer electronics makers to think out of the current imagination. From then on, phones used in the last decade started to become smartphones, TVs to smart TVs and on that chain, by now we have smart watches and smart homes too. The topic "Is smartphone only a phone?" was chosen to critically analyze how phones have changed the world and the people living on it after it became smartphones. The lifestyle of people has changed extensively after the extent of smartphones, which transformed the society to a new generation. Transformation of a society does not bring only changes in people's behavior, it also brought new laws and regulations, range of code of conduct and various ethical issues. From many issues only few will be discussed here to match the given word limitation and the scope. All the issues mentioned under four different categories are critically analyzed using evidences from authentic sources and opinions and arguments of different writers have been discussed using the ethical framework. 1. Issues in Smartphones Whenever a new technology that can be claimed as a game changer is introduced, one thing that leads most people to adopt that technology is the curiosity inside them. • 15. Persuasive Essay On Smartphones Everywhere you go you see it, people glued to their smartphones. Understandably, smartphones are amazing with dealing with boredom, so much that it has become an essential tool for mobile entertainment. Smartphones have changed the way we go about our daily life and with that comes into the territory of addiction and reliability, especially in the lives of younger kids. The question is, why do we even consider giving these enslaving devices to kids whose brains aren't even close to fully developed? The main reason parents give their kids smartphones and even tablets is because it's an easy way to keep them entertained or quiet. Caving in, which is something that is not only going to hurt yourself but also the child. Some may even say that smartphones and tablets are actually a great source for learning and helps children. Smartphones and tablets are a great tool for learning, but giving these devices to kids is the same thing as handing them drugs. These smartphones and devices we give to kids can create mental health issues. Julie Evens, a child psychotherapist for 25 years, isn't anti–technology yet she is against the negative side effects it has on our young saying "It is battering our children's brains." Which makes kids miss out on "kindness, acceptance, conversation, face–to–face, nature, nurture" (qtd. In Stanford). Moreover, Farnum, a 49– year–old father, came to the realization that the smartphones he gave his kids were changing them stating "There were some real problems," and then told The Washington post "If you tell them to watch the screen time, all of a sudden the fangs come out." (qtd. In Mettler). Once you give a kid one of these devices they can change into a completely different person and worse of all, these changes are happening when they are still developing. Some developmental traits can prove useful, although there are many scary traits that overcome the them that may prove more serious than just handing over something for their entertainment. Jean Twenge, a San Diego State University professor of psychology and author, shows the statistic of teen electronic device use saying "Teens who spend three hours a day or more on electronic devices are 35 percent more likely to have a risk ... • 17. Speech On Smartphones Every single one of us owns a smartphone or uses a phone a close relative of ours owns. If you deny this, there is a very high chance you are lying because over 75 percent of teens have access to smartphones. We are always told by our parents that we spend too much time on our phones and it's true. Kids as young as three are learning to watch YouTube. As a result, smartphones can be detrimental to our health. This raises concerns among researchers and even parents: how young is too young for a smart Phones? A study conducted by researchers in NYU showed that the electromagnetic waves emitted by cell phones can cause cell mutations which leads to genetic disorders that can harm you and even spread to offspring. It can especially be harmful to toddlers whose bodies are still developing. Cells have a higher chance of replicating these cells affected by electromagnetic waves as certain organs grow to their max. Another article published by business insider revealed that blue light coming from phones can slowly deteriorate our vision and can cause blindness. Yes, you read that right –– blindness. A 40 year old reported to a doctor that she lost her vision in her left eye for 15 minutes every morning. Doctors found out that the cause was because of her unhealthy phone habits. The blue lights from the phone and her dark environment were deteriorating her retinas. Many of the researchers noted that one should stay away from phones before going to bed. Jeff Taylor, a medical director from YourSightMatters.com states [hones should especially be taken away from kids who have not yet reached puberty because the eyes are still developing. Not only that, but studies showed that the blue lights can cause insomnia, cataracts, and takes a toll on mental health. Hence, parents should make an effort to ensure their teens (specifically anyone who has not finished their puberty phases) spend limited time on phones during the day and to avoid using phones at night. One of the biggest health concerns associated with smartphone use is the rise of mental health disorders. Today's teens are not spending as much time with their friends in person, face–to–face, where they can really read each others' emotions and get that social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Effect Of Smartphone On Adolescents The Effect of Smartphone on Adolescents With all the advancements in technology taking place there has been a lot of good that has come with it. Modern medicine, automobiles, and the cell phone which allows people to connect instantly. However with all the good things that have come with technology, there have also been bad things as well. One such thing would be cyberbullying and the addiction of smartphones. Smartphones have affected adolescents in ways previously not thought possible, such as causing poor social skills, addiction, and being used to cyberbully. Adolescents must be educated about the responsibility that comes with owning a smartphone. Smartphones should not be given to kids until they reach high school, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From having good grades, to studying for the ACT, in addition to trying to fit into the social aspect in high school a teens life has never been more hard. And the invention of the smartphone has only added to the amount of stress that a teen has to deal with. The smartphone has created an environment in which adolescents are always connected with those they go to highschool with, through the use of social media. For example if a bully were to be picking on a student at school the student could not just go home and forget about the incident, but now the bully has the ability to abuse that student at any point he/she desires. These types of incidents are creating a new wave of problems for adolescents and their parents, Nojiri Matthew interviewed Rick Wolf (assistant superintendent at Mifflin School district) explaining "The increase in social media use has added another element when identifying and caring for kids dealing with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, attention–deficit/hyperactivity disorder and other mental health disorders, Wolf said" (Wolf). The smartphone is the catalyst to these problems. If you were to take away the smartphone problems such as cyberbullying would be less of an issue. As of 2017, over forty–five million adults suffer from mental illnesses in the United States ("Data on Behavioral Health"). Health–based smartphone applications have become available for tracking treatment progress, psychoeducation, symptom assessment, and resource location. These apps can also be implemented into conventional manualized treatments and can serve as therapists' extended arm into the daily life of their patient. For example, the eMoods Bipolar Mood Tracker app is programmed to document hours of sleep, anxiety levels, and medication use to generate reports that are sent back to health professionals (Luxton et al.). The information collected could be analyzed and used to optimize patients' positive health outcomes. The convenience of the latest smartphone technology allows patients to enjoy therapy and provide a better experience in bettering their mental health. A conflict that some mental health patients face is the stigmatism of needing therapy for their illness. Therefore, smartphone health–based applications offer those specific patients an innovative way to receive treatment. Apps such as Headspace, a popular meditation app, allow those who seek for a more mindful lifestyle without requiring any interaction with strangers. This allows them to remain in the comfort of their home, or at almost any location if they are on the go. The app's scientific basis is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and neuroimaging studies have begun to identify the brain areas associated with the positive effects of mindfulness meditation (Haug). It is now well established that "guided self–help treatment can be as effective as face–to–face psychotherapy for mild to moderate depressive symptoms" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Smartphones are causing people to suffer from lack of sleep, a short attention– span, and a lowering well being. Those are the downsides of smartphones and some benefits include; easily portable, productivity boosting devices. Smartphones are used not only as phones, but as clocks, internet browsers, messaging services, calendars, cameras, alarm clocks, road maps and video players. (Weir 2017). The module in our textbook states that light affects our sleep patterns in the circadian rhythm is the reason for people suffering from lack of sleep, a short attention span, and a lowering well being. This topic is important because it affects the majority of the population, especially the coming generations as well as the growing magnitude of this issue and its negative effects on our society and specific individuals. In the following paragraphs I'll explain why smartphones are considered "sleep stealers", research strategies, and how smart phone usage can be rewarding and the potential downsides of smartphone use. Smartphone are considered to be "sleep stealers" because they keep people from getting the sleep they need, the emit a blue light that is said to affect the sleep–regulating hormone called melatonin. People who get on their phone before bed tend to sleep poorly and be less engaged in their activities the next day. A survey done by Russell E. Johnson found that when people use smartphones at night for work–related activities, they reported they had slept more poorly and were less engaged at work the next day. These results were greater with people who used their smartphones than those who used tablets or laptops. (Weir 2017) Bright lights affect our sleepiness by activating light sensitive retinal proteins which then signals the brain's suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) to decrease production of melatonin. (Myers & DeWall 2016). We sleep because it helps us protect, it helps us recuperate, sleep helps us restore and rebuild our fading memories of the day's experience, it feeds our ... The Theories Of The Smartphone Market Introduction Smartphone market is an emerging important market and is experiencing a wave of transformation with the emergence of new players (Basole and Karla, 2011). The competition among the smartphone markets is no longer simply through physical devices but though ecosystems, or platforms. This essay is going to look at the evolution of the market so far including how it will evolve in the future, whether a few firms will eventually dominate the market as well as the core business strategy is applied to the firms. The two main economic theories I will employ are the theory of monopolistic competition and the theory of network effects. While the former will give an understanding of the first stage of competition in the smartphone market, the latter will explain the evolution of the smartphone market. Moreover, the integration of these two theories will give a clear illustration of how competitions change from physical products to platforms. At the end of the essay, we can have an insight as well as a prediction of which firm is likely to dominate in the market. The early smartphone markets as a monopolistic competition Edward Chamberlin and Joan Robinson (1930s) defined the monopolistic competition as 'a market structure from which firms produce differentiated products but serve a similar purpose'. The advanced features of a smartphone such as social media applications have become a powerful instrument in academic life (Vazquez Cano, 2014). Without the help of smartphone applications, education would be challenging to manage (Odom, 2016). Furthermore, smartphone companies such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft provide a source of learning and useful teaching techniques in school (Odom, 2016). The benefits of a smartphone are that it can help motivate students to learn efficiently, support alternative teaching environments, and provide assessment opportunities to the students. The smartphone technology motivates students to learn efficiently in school (Odom, 2016). One beneficial feature that smartphones can provide is the convenience of social interaction and communication between the students (Odom, 2016). • 59. Negative Effects Of Smartphones In the past 20 years there has been a significant increase in technology and technological dependency. A large portion of this dependency has been derived from smartphones, which have been dominating the phone market, primarily since the iPhone was introduced in 2007. There is nothing inherently wrong with smartphones, however they are causing more harm than help to this society. Smartphones and the dependency humans hold with them have become detrimental to society through creating a decline in human interaction, emphasizing value on inanimate objects, and ultimately creating a greater and more dangerous distraction than it's worth. Today, laziness and efficiency are incredibly prevalent, if an easier option is available it will be taken at all costs; this is where technology comes in. Technology, smartphones specifically, create an outlet to communicate with other people at any place, at any given point in the day. In theory, the idea of instantaneous communication is great and efficient, the issue with this is it eliminates face to face interactions amongst humans. When one of the most basic human connections is ripped away, one cannot expect a society to thrive.
