Q2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
1. Q.2 HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF
YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS
By Sam Johnson
2. VOICE OVER
We used the same voice on both the radio
trailer and our documentary, this means there is
parity between those two is also shows that it is
our documentary and is recognisable.
It is standard English and is male with a normal
accent
If we used a different voice over say a female
with a diffeant accent it there would not be the
same parity between the radio trailer and
documentary
Parts of the voice over are taken directly from
the documentary to the radio trailer
3. VOICE CLIPS
We used voice clips in the radio advert from
our documentary
This allows the listener a sneak preview to
our documentary by listening to some clips in
the trailer
Overall this again connotes a parity between
thee two and helps establish the documentary
4. COLOUR
The links between the colour in the
documentary intro and our print advert
is the colour red used, it is in our background of
our intro behind the person with the tarantula on
his face and where the text appears.
And it appears on the print advert on th balloon
and on some of the make up on the face of the
clown
It also appears on the BBC 1 logo which is red.
Overall this helps to establish that the
documentary is connected with our print advert.
5. TIMES AND DATES
The dates and times were included in both
print advert and the radio trailer
The dates were in the radio trailer at the end
this is important as this will be the last thing
the listener hears and therefore remembers
The dates and times were used in our print
advert this is important as it lets the viewer
know when it is on.
6. THE SLOGAN
The slogan is used in both the radio trailer and the
print advert, and documentary
The slogan “what are you afraid of” is used in the
radio trailer to address the listener
It is also used in our print advert again addressing the
reader
It is used in our documentary but not in the same
extent
It would say for example “Elliot Afraid of Snakes”
This again links in with the use of the slogan and
creates a correlation between the two
