Radio trailer research
1. Conventions:
Primary voice-over along with snippets from the film
Film’s tagline said.
Some sound effects perhaps not directly from the film.
Information at the end, (release date).
Stars of the film, (if known).
Director, (if known).
2. The purpose of a radio trailer, like any ancillary product is to encourage the
audience to see the film.
Unlike a poster of television trailer, the radio trailer is conveyed entirely through
audio it is therefore more difficult to put across the subject of the film.
The nature of a radio trailer means that the audience will be from a different,
usually older demographic.
Radio trailers do broaden the marketing but perhaps not as much as an online or
television product.
It would perhaps be more effective to have the trailer feature on a popular
podcast directed more towards our audience.
3. We want our trailer to fit with these conventions
in order for it to be familiar with the audience.
Independent drama films do not usually have
radio trailers to go with them and so creating
one to fit our film could be problematic.
We should ensure to create a tone that fits the
film.
We need to ensure that no dialogue from the
film would be inappropriate for a wide audience.
