I have carried on with my research this week and the tasks that I have
completed include evidence of videos that I admire, research into
artist and music video theory.
Evidence of videos that I admire
This post provides evidence of the existing music videos that I have
fondly admire, reasons for admiring these videos include how
inspiration they are because of the message in which their narrative
structure expresses to its audience, the aesthetic look to the video such
as including the way they have edited the scenes and the different use
of costumes and props etc.
For each video, I have separately talked about the features that I liked
or admired about each video. Researching on different existing music
videos will help me to gain more ideas on my own music video
including the way it will look and the message that my video will send
across to its audience. I am hoping to achieve the same reaction as
these videos have given me to other people.
Research into the artist
I have finally decided on what artist I will be using for my music video. I
have chosen the indie singer Birdy. I have specifically chosen Birdy
because I admire her work and her previous music videos. I like the
simplicity of them but also its aesthetic look as they are simple yet
effective with the use of editing where the editor plays with the colours
and the different shots. I also really like her voice as brings out a
calming and tranquil vibe to her audience. Another reason why I chose
Birdy is because her songs are all meaningful and all have an inspiring
message to them. This will be useful when it comes to choosing a song
of hers because I will be able to have a clear narrative structure which
will help me to make the music video as I will have a platform to start
with.
I have researched her background and her career. This will also help
me with the evaluation as I will be talking about how she as an artist
entices people to listen to her music and also her success in the music
industry.
Music video theory
The last bit of research that I had carried out this week is looking into
the theory of music videos. I have specifically written about Goodwin’s
music video theory out of all the other theories out there related to
music videos because he has talked about all of the basic and most
important aspects of a music video. This research will help me with

2. what factors I should consider when creating my music video and what
the audience are expecting from it. I will need to make sure that I
consider these points in order to tick all the boxes of creating a
successful music video.
