2. Alt J
As Alt j are the band which have written and performed
Dissolve me, I thought it would be appropriate to
analyze their digipak as it will help to show me the type
of digipak an indie band create. I’m going to be
analysing there album ‘An Awesome Wave’ which was
released on the 25th of May 2012.
3. Front cover
This front cover is a piece of artwork that is inspired by the
Ganges river. This is a vibrant piece of artwork which
connect to the vibrant range of song on the album. This
contrasts from other artists and indie bands digipaks
because it doesn’t have any text to recognise this is Alt J’s
album. Most albums have the artists name and the title of
the album. Alt j have chosen not to have text which
suggests they want there audience to appreciate the
artwork. Also, this shows that the band want to their
audience to focus on the music as they haven’t used an
image of themselves to try and sell the album. They aren’t
bothered about there ‘star image’. This abstract image
makes the album stand out and doesn't’t feature the band
which intigues wider audiences to look at the album, this is
a convention of indie bands digipacks.
4. Back cover and CD
The Cd is extremely plain as its white with the album song
names around the edge of the Cd. This follows the simple
design of the album. The colourful artwork contrasts with the
plain Cd and back cover. The back cover and Cd follow the same
colour themes.
The simple design of the back cover reinforces their desire to
draw the attention to the songs on the album. They used large
font and capital letters which is used to help the audience
recognize songs they have previously heard.
5. How has this helped?
For my own digipak this has helped me recognize that Inide rock bands
use pictures to draw attention to a wider audience. The simple design
on the back cover and CD has inspired me as they have used this to
promote the songs. We want to make our back cover simple to draw
the audiences attention to the songs on the album. This digipak is
exciting as the artwork on the front is vibrant and intriguing. They have
taken a risk because they haven’t included any images of themselves
and have hoped that the artwork on the front will draw audiences to
the album. For my digipak this has been inspiring because we don’t
want to focus on the band, we want to focus on the music.
