Production diary - week 1
1. Production diary – week 1
This week, we were told a brief outline on the coursework we will be doing for
A2. We were firstly given the brief which included 10 choices in relation to the
coursework in which we will be carrying out to do. It included a range of
media products such as music videos or short films along with promotional
packs. We have the option to choose one of the ten and I had chosen to
undergo the task of creating a promotional package for the release of an
album, along with a music video promo. Then I have to choose two between:
A website homepage for the band
A digipak for the album’s release
A magazine advertisement for the digipak
I am still undecided about which two out of the three I am planning to do,
however creating a website homepage would be quite a difficult task for me
to accomplish as I am not very effective when it comes to creating websites.
Therefore choosing to create a digipak for the album’s release and a magazine
advertisement for the digipak would probably be an easier option.
We were also asked to have some ideas about how our music video will be
produced. In order to have an effective product, we were advised to have
some ideas as early as possible so that we are able to get started as soon as
possible. There are a few points which we may want to think about when
thinking an idea for my music video. These points include:
Emotive
Aesthetic (how it looks)
Technical quality
Intellectual (makes you think)
Not to use a popular song
It should last 4-5 minutes
Can use alternative versions of a song
We were also given a list of factors which will enable my music video to look
more professional and effective in order to achieve the highest amount of
marks possible. These factors include:
Narrative plot
Time lapse
Parallel universe
Manipulation of narrative time
Intertextuality/parody
2. Multiple personalities
Extreme slow motion
Transformation of character
Studio/green screen
Split screen
Thematic/concept driven
Role reversals
Screens within screens
Dance routines
Creative use of colour
Live performances
Travel/journey
Utilising song lyrics
