2. Production reflections
• This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
• You should complete this each week during production
• Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
• Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
3. Process –Initial Plans
This week I started my video project. In this week I did the initial plans for my
music video and I started research. For my planning I started by listening to
different songs to decide what I wanted to use. Once I had chosen a few
songs I could possible use I started brainstorming some ideas. I then wrote
down my initial ideas and evaluated each idea on how practical it would be
to film with the skills and resources I have. Once I had done this I came to
the conclusion that my first idea was the most practical option to film. I then
went on to do research on the artist I am making a music video for and music
videos in the genre of music the song is in. I watched other music videos to
see what sort of shots I need to include for lip sinking and to help tell a story
in there is a narrative in the video. Also while doing my research I did a lip
syncing test as I am wanting majority if my music video to be lip synced and I
also did some editing tests with colour grading and different effects like
adding blur to the footage as I am wanting it to fade in slowly at the start to
show everything coming into focused for the character in the music video.
4. Process – Research
This week I finished my research off with looking at conventions of music
videos in general and music videos in the genre of music my music video is
going to be in. This helped me know what sort of shots I was going to need
for my music video and what the overall look of my video was going to have
to be. I then went on to do some test of different things I am wanting to
include in my music video such as lip syncing. Doing these test helped me
see what my final product would roughly look like and all the different things
I could do with lip syncing and different visual effects.
5. Process – Proposal
When writing my proposal I wrote about the target audience and the overall
concept of the video. I decide the target audience for my music video would
be teenage boys from a middle class background. For my music video I am
going to have it set the morning after a party so everyone has left his house
before he wakes up to then go walking around his house trying to figure out
what happened the night before. At different points in the song the video
rewinds back to the start and then goes on to show him walking through the
house again but is confused. At the end of the song when there is the big
interlude there are freeze frames of different tings happening to the
character in the music video as he is figuring out what happened that night.
To do this I will have to do some research how to rewind footage and how to
lip sync, as these are two things I am using in my music video.
6. Process – Pre-Production
For my pre-production I did a structural breakdown of my music video by
talking through each section of the song. I also drew up a story board for my
music video and wrote a shot list so that my production would run smoothly
and so everything in production would go to plan and be easier to film
everything as I knew what I needed. I think my pre-production worked very
well and was successful in helping my production run smoothly.
7. Process – Production
When doing my production I found my pre-production really helped
everything run smoothly as each part of my music video was carefully
planned. Once I had filmed all my footage over the weekend I started editing
straight away. The first thing I did when editing was lip sync my footage with
the audio so I knew the basics of my video were running smoothly and
everything was timed correctly. I then went on to add the rewind effects and
VHS effects to my video and the rest of the effects.
