Essay on Episode Of Hands
Episode of Hands
The unexpected interest made him flush.
Suddenly he seemed to forget the pain,–
Consented,–and held out
One finger from the others.
The gash was bleeding, and a shaft of sun
That glittered in and out among the wheels,
Fell lightly, warmly, down into the wound.
And as the fingers of the factory owner's son,
That knew a grip for books and tennis
As well as one for iron and leather,–
As his taut, spare fingers wound the gauze
Around the thick bed of the wound,
His own hands seemed to him
Like wings of butterflies
Flickering in the sunlight over summer fields.
The knots and notches,–many in the wide
Deep hand that lay in his,–seemed beautiful.
They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives evidence of having lived two separate lives, one on top of the other, but neither owning the upper hand at any time. It is a poem of change,
and how things never change as they are expected to do, nor do they change before our eyes as we would believe, but instead change us in a way
that makes us blind to ourselves. "As the fingers of the factory owner's son, That knew a grip for books and tennis"; here is described the
man's childhood, and here, "As well as one for iron and leather,–", is described his adulthood, with responsibilities and duties to perform.
The style of Hart Crane is nearly unmatched. Here he uses a free verse structure, written as a Blackwood Article, in a story that depicts an event
which is the theme and the subject of the poem. He uses little rhyme, with any structure, but the words flow from frame to frame as though a rhyme
scheme had been used quite frivolously. There is also a great deal of imagery. A good amount of emphasis is placed upon the hands, the lifeblood of
our interaction with the world, and as the hands are described against the sunlight we can nearly see a picture perfect masterpiece within our minds that
helps us along in the story. There is also a well hidden hint at imagery here; "His own hands seemed to him Like wings of butterflies",
means quite clearly, that he has most recently undergone a

I Am About Last Night
I wake up just enough to roll over. As I do so, the annoying, repetitive sound of my alarm clock fills my ears. I groan and roll myself out of bed. I
trudge over to my dresser and turn the alarm off. I don 't feel like going to school today, especially since I know that Dad will be calling Mom while I
'm gone.
As I walk to the bathroom, I grab my phone from my desk. I see that I have two new messages and one new email. I read the first message, which is
from my mom, telling me that she 'd be gone this morning. I open the second message, and of course, it 's from Damon.
Text to Karrison from Damon:
"Good morning, beautiful. I hope you have an amazing day! I 'm still very sorry about last night. I know I must have disappointed you, and I feel
awful. I promise that I 'll make it up to you!"
Well, I don 't know how he would expect that he disappointed me. I 'm great at hiding my emotions! I wonder how he 's going to try to make it up to me.
I walk over to the mirror and almost shriek at my appearance. My eyes are crusty, and my long, brown hair is sticking out in all directions. I was
painfully reminded of Einstein. I look down at my sink and groan. I look like an Einstein raccoon! I forgot to clean my makeup off before I went to
sleep. Looks like I have a bunch of work to do before I leave for school.
With excitement, I realize it 's Friday and almost jump up and down. Face and hair or outfit first? I should try to do something with my hair first. I
wash my face and dry

The Night
"So let me get this straight, you're going to find a legendary ring, slay a dragon, then marry a princess?" My friend Mary questioned. She was
walking around the room still facing me. "Yes, indeed." I replied. I certainly did intend on accomplishing this impossible dream. It might be a hard
act to achieve, but no pain no gain right? "Jerry, don't you think that's too umm, big of a..." She started. "No, it's not too big. I mean, sure it's a
hard thing to accomplish, but I believe I can." I admitted, "Stop crushing my dreams, Mary." I shouted, storming out the chamber. I approach the
wizard's spire as I wonder what lies inside. I climb up the stairs, yet before I can even knock, the door flies open. "Magical." I murmur to myself,
my footsteps echoing in the empty chamber. "Hello?" I utter, spotting objects in the room: a desk with a chair, a spiral staircase leading around
the tower, and windows allowing the bright sunshine to shine in. Then, I see something that makes me do a double take. Is that a wand? I ponder,
heading toward the stairs. I ascend up the stairs counting the seconds it takes to get up them. in case I need to escape I should know how long it'll
take. I find the wizard situated on a chair facing an altar. "Are you the wizard?" I inquire. "Yes, my name is Larry, anything you need?" Larry
interrogated. "Actually, yes," I revealed, "I was going to ask you about a ring." "What kind of ring?" "A magical one." "I would hope

Field Work, Non-Verbal Communication Essay
A few days ago I took a trip to my local mall and took a seat at the food court. My objective was to observe individuals engaging in non–verbal
communication and document what I witnessed. After only a few minutes I became aware of a couple sitting within public distance, about 15–20ft
away from me. They were having an argument about how the male was being cold and unaffectionate. While observing them I realized they were
using various gestures while arguing. I will inform you of what type they were and what they were conveying.
During the argument, both individuals demonstrated affect displays. These are facial expressions motivated by emotion such as a smile or frown. The
female had a frown on her face to demonstrate that she was sad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this was to communicate to the female that he would like her to stop talking so he could say something.
After the male verbally communicated that he doesn't believe that he is being cold and unaffectionate, the female used an emblem. Emblems are
gestures that have a direct verbal translation and can stand alone such as the "ok" sign. She twisted her head to the right and then to the left repeatedly
indicated "No, I disagree with you". The male put his hand out in front of him, palms facing up and tilted his head up, this combination of gestures is
usually translated into "what?" or "why?", in this situation, it means "why?".
Near the end of this argument, a couple of adaptors were utilized. Adaptors are gestures that make you feel more comfortable in a communication
situation such as twirling your hair or tapping your fingers. While the female mentioned various situations where the male is unaffectionate she puts
her elbows on the table and massages the sides of her head with her hands, I believe she did this to relief tension she was feeling from the argument in
order to feel more comfortable. The male decided that her reasons for feeling that he is unaffectionate are legitimate. While verbally communicating
that he agrees with her and he will make changes, the female reaches her hand out and holds his, further seeking comfort now that the argument has
been settled.
In conclusion, it is evident that

Reflective Account on Communication Essay example
Reflective account on communication
This assignment is a reflective account on communicating with a patient who cannot communicate verbally. To remain confidential I will call the
patient, Patient A. I'm going to discuss the importance of non–verbal communication within a healthcare setting. Patient A was a 63 year old lady
suffering from MND which resulted in her losing her speech.
This was my first shift back from having a few days off and I returned to work on a night shift. Patient A was admitted to the hospice that day. She was
admitted for general deterioration and she had tried to maintain her independence up until breaking point. It was handed over she has aphasia.
Her inability to use her speech related muscles meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I explained why we were unable to swap mattresses, due to it being late at night and one not being available but offered her a recliner chair instead.
She accepted the offer, and appeared to be happy with this.
Myself and a colleague transferred Patient A into the recliner, she was then able to get some sleep that night in the recliner chair. This information was
recorded on the patient's notes and handed over to the day staff on the next morning.
I will now discuss how I was thinking and feeling during this event. I had been working at the hospice for over a year and had looked after patients
with MND before. I had an idea of how it can affect communicating with the patient. I was apprehensive about approaching Patient A as I didn't know
what difficulties I may find whilst trying to communicate with her. She was able to communicate very well using the pen and writing down, and using
hand gestures. I learnt that by speaking clearly with easy to answer questions we were able to communicate with each other effectively. Afterwards I
felt pleased that were able to determine the problem and find a solution for her, despite the communication barriers.
Evaluation
I feel that the communicating between Patient A and myself worked well during this event. I noticed that she was uncomfortable by her body language
and I picked up quickly which method was best to

My Breaching Social Norm Experiment
For my breaching social norm experiment, I was determined to do something I would never do even if it was a dare, especially since my ability to
interact with strangers is not what I consider advanced. So, I decided to make people feel uncomfortable by holding their hand. What I would do is
walk up to the person from behind and slowly make my way to their hand to make them feel even more uncomfortable. People normally hold hands
with their significant other, or with someone they know, like a friend or family member, so to be holding hands with a stranger is infrequent and
abnormal. In preparation for starting our experiment, it took my confidant, Carla, and I about an hour to finally initiate the first move. Before even
holding hands with strangers my mind was swirling with multiple questions and thoughts, like "Why am I even doing this?", "I don't appreciate
making people feel uncomfortable.", "Why is Mrs.Henry torturing me!", "Can I just not do it?", and so on. In addition to my thoughts and
questions, I felt myself sweating and my stomach felt as if it was in a twisted knot. While I approached my first victim I felt the temperature of my
body raise up to boiling point and the color of my skin turn from snow white to lava red in a split second. To make things worse, once I held onto the
lady 's hand, she was gripping onto mine and was holding on tight, and my reaction was to laugh because when you are in an uncomfortable situation

Children 's Center Preschool Room For My Prosocial...
I went to Keiki Hau'oli Children's Center preschool room for my prosocial observation assignment. During my visit, it was indoor free play time,
meanwhile teachers were offering breakfast. The schedule is not rush, they can play indoor and outdoor with free choices for one hour. First, the room
was organized by the section. Each section has double or multiple amount of toys for children to play with their friends. For example, on a shelf, there
are three baby dolls and their matching clothes. Children interact each other by asking questions such as, "Baby is hungry. What can I do?" Another
child said, "I will show you." She used her baby bottle to pretend feeding a baby. There is big open floor space in the back of the room for the
children to play freely. Children were playing with blocks and cars on that open floor. Some were playing with "Kapla" on a low table with one
caregiver. Other children were sitting at the carpet, listening a story. Children play peacefully because there are variety of activity choices they can
play. Two things if I am able to change, I will change the floor arrangement and add more books. First, I will move free floor space from back of the
room to the middle close to the entrance because I can hear them well, so I could interact with them more. I like ocean, nature, and Hawaiian culture

Beigely Familiar
You're walking down the sidewalk on your way home. A chilly breeze blows, and you hunch your shoulders, shoving your hands into the pockets of
your jacket. Feeling a need for spontaneity, you decide to take a different turn. After five minutes of walking you come upon a corner store. You feel
an urge to go in and you don't know why; maybe because the store looks impossible somehow, with its smudged outline and colors that are slightly
less visible than the colors of the other buildings on the street, or because of the way that none of the passersby even give it a glance. You enter the
store and wander around, looking for nothing in particular. I beckon you over to the counter where I stand operating the register. I hand you a vaguely
hamburger–shaped, blurry lump of beige. You stare at it. It is only acolor; a color with form. It shouldn't exist, yet there it rests in your hands, barely
tangible. I explain that the beige can give you whatever you desire, in the moment you desire it. You listen intently, nodding in wonder. You purchase
the beige and deposit the change in your jacket pocket, where it clinks softly. When you exit the store, you notice a tall man in a long jacket staring
at you. You make eye contact, and something in your mind registers, but you ignore it. His head reads "depressed" but he smiles at you, and you
wonder why. None of the other passersby even give you a glance. Suddenly, a flash of greenlight overtakes you. You find yourself

The patient tells me she was cutting an avocado on September 17th. She said she was using a knife to remove the pit of the avocado and was holding
the avocado in her left hand, the knife in her right hand, and was trying to stab at the pit. Unfortunately, she missed the pit and cut her hand. She said
the wound was to the area above her fifth metatarsal, more on the palm side, than on the finger side itself. She said right away it was extremely painful
and she noticed after some of the pain dissipated, that she was feeling a little numbness there. She said initially she did think much of it, but when
she talked to her husband about it, he was worried about the numbness and prompted her to go to the emergency room. She was evaluated at
Exeter Hospital. There, the wound was irrigated. She had two sutures placed. She did receive a tetanus vaccine while there, as well and was sent
home. She was told that perhaps there was a mild injury to the nerve, but they did not think that there was a true severing of that nerve. She said she
did not think much of it. The cut seemed to heal fine. There was no redness ever. It does not, in her mind, seem to be swollen. However, just in the
last week, has noticed worsening types of pain. The pain is not over exactly where the stitches were, but more proximal, as well as if she has her fifth
finger fully extended, she feels pain

Military Weapons And Shotguns
Although protective equipment is so important for the safety of soldiers, advances in weapons is what wins wars. The United States military is
constantly designing new weapons for soldiers because with each new threat, a new counter is needed. As for weapons used to take the enemy out,
there are infinite possibilities of weapons that could be designed for that area weaponry. The Unites Statesmilitary is trying to design weapons that no
other country has so that the enemy won't know what hit them and would have no defense for it. Basic rifles and shotguns are the most common types
of guns in the military because of how easy they are to use and can be used from just about any distance. The

Fiber Lasers were invented in 1963 and since the 1990's they have been advanced almost entirely by IPG Photonics Company. The fiber lasers are
compact and can be rolled in coils and take in sunlight which increases its brightness and power by over 30%. This fiber laser is twice as strong as the
solid state lasers (Extance). The High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator is a prototype mechanism that is placed in top of camouflaged trucks
and shoots an invisible infrared laser at the enemy planes or weapons. Inside the truck an engineer sits in front of a computer and aims and shoots
the invisible laser at the enemy. This laser is one of the best forms of defense because it only takes two cups of fuel and an outside energy source
such as a generator, whereas a conventional inexpensive missile costs around 100,00 dollars per shot (Extance). The fiber laser only costs less than
10 dollars per shot. This makes the fiber lasers a very effective line of defense against flying targets. Other prototypes such as the LaWS laser
systems have been designed to be placed on United States boats and are able to target smaller enemy boats. Direct Energy weapons use lasers and
microwaves as a weapon. Although not many of these weapons

Essay on CYCLE OF THE INFANTRYMAN
CYCLE OF THE INFANTRYMAN by LCPL BACH, GEORGE
The Cycle of the Infantryman applies to fire and maneuver for a combat element. For example purposes the buddy team will be our combat element
and a static enemy position (e.g. bunker) will be the target. The phases of the cycle are SHOOT, ASSESS, MOVE, AND KILL. The cycle may loop
until there is no longer an enemy threat or until target position is gained. The following is a break down of each phase. –SHOOT During this phase of
the cycle a base of fire is established along with identifying the enemy capability. During this phase the object is to suppress the enemy for maneuver.
As an example this is when a Marine may use a frag grenade to eliminate/shock/suppress the enemy position. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Marines will suppress the target, asses their suppression fire effectiveness and move to the target. When the Marines enter the target position they
will clear the structure/bunker/hole, eliminating the threat. The Marines are able to do so by EXPLOITING the enemies weaknesses/hesitation
/disorientation. There are many ways to be the cause of the "gap" in an enemy defense. Marines may use a larger weapon emplacement such as a
machine gun. Also Marines can use a grenade or HEDP ammunition to destroy enemy equipment, kill the enemy, or at the minimum concuss them to
cause a large enough lapse in orientation for the Marine to move into the enemy position. At this point the Marine will use the lapse to take the target,
during this process time has priority as the speed of the Marine and the hesitation of the enemy determines the outcome. The Marines will repeat the
process to push forward or hold the position depending on the mission.
FRAG BATTLE DRILL

In combat a highly effective weapon for suppression and maneuver is a well placed M67 Frag Grenade. The frag grenade has a kill radius of 5
meters and a casualty radius of 15 meters. A frag grenade is useful to kill, wound, shock and distort the line of sight of the enemy. When used properly
in combat the frag grenade can be the turning factor in the battle and assist in establishing a forward or perpendicular base of fire to further eliminate the

A Short Story Of A Story
I woke up in a snow covered forest, shivering as I looked around dazed and confused. I looked up and was met by a cloud–covered sun, surrounded by
frosted trees. It must have been midday, I thought to myself,
"I've been out for some time."
I tried to gather how I got here, the snow around me was biting my skin, and I couldn't feel most of my toes. I couldn't hear any birds chirping and I
could smell something peculiar in the air. I sniffed the air for a moment like a bloodhound before I suddenly remembered what had happened as the
strong smell filled my nostrils. I flashed back to my cold, isolated cell, and the brutal guards tormenting us, trying to break our spirits. As I tried to
move my hands I felt something around my right index finger. I raised my frozen hands up to my face and brushed off the snow. There I saw a small
steel ring frozen around my glove. My eyes widened at the thought of what I knew must have just happened. I lifted my head off of my sony pillow
and turned around. I looked in disbelief at what I saw, an empty field with a smoking concrete building in the distance. I saw what appeared to be 3
small red dots with sirens heading that way, and could hear dogs barking and people screaming followed with sharp cracks of gunfire.
Before all of this, I lived a hard life in my small town. I worked in the local paper mill, inhaling far too many chemicals, but I needed to get by
somehow. I sometimes had to burn furniture to stay warm. Because of this I forged my

Is Body Language A Person 's Symbol Making Ability?
both gestures and vocal sounds can be considered as part of a person 's symbol–making ability. By "symbol–making ability" I am referring to the
spoken word, writing, numbers and pictures; the ways in which we communicate. It is this ability which defines many of us and differentiates humans
from the array of other mammals on this planet. However, when we communicate with people, we generally tend to be taught to pay attention to the
spoken symbols, in the form of words that people say and tend to ignore body language in communication.
So here today are some steps to follow to heighten your awareness of body language in communication with particular reference to gestures and maybe
you can utilise them more yourself.
Step One: Firstly, each time you are having a chat with someone, observe the gestures they make. There will often be patterns and repeated ways of
utilising gestures. Notice how certain gestures accompany certain words and phrases. Think about what they are doing with this gesture too.
When you listen to someone, their hands will complement or emphasise what they are saying to you or what they are attempting to communicate. You
can watch them paint pictures in the air, and interact with their imaginary world as they speak. Anyone that has ever seen me speak will notice that I
have very active hands while speaking, if you listen to the podcasts or my audio programmes, you can even tell that I am using my hands while
speaking even though you cannot see me!

Infant Development Paper
Infants go through different developmental stages. It is a part of the human life cycle. The beginning stages of an infant's life is the most developing
(Payne & Issacs, 2012). One of the stages that infant go through is the Late Infancy Stage. During the Late Infancy Stage, infants between 7–9 months
reach many different milestones. As the infant grows and becomes aware of their surrounding the more developed they become. Infants discover new
things daily and it is important to support their growth. Late Infancy stage involves the gross motor, fine motor, oral– motor, cognitive language,

Fine motor control allows infants to exercise their hand muscles which helps them to play with toys. Some atypical behaviors are keeping hands closed
without opening them and not grasping when objects are placed in the palm of the hand.
While infants have a growing interest in the world around them, putting things in the mouth is normal. Oral motor development is an important
milestone, many foods are introduced during this stage. Infant has more control over the tongue, lip, jaw, teeth, soft and hard palate, this permits
infant to eat soft and mashed up food like mashed potatoes and apple sauce. Mouth movement and coordination is significant when eating and
swallowing. A parent may give her infants a cookie and the infant will eat it, biting off small pieces at a time. When spoon fed an infant can eat from
a spoon and when drinking from a bottle the seal is stronger which prevents less spillage (Koontz –Lowman &Lane, 1999). Difficulty swallowing and
chewing food is a sign of atypical behavior.
During late infancy stage, an infant's abilities to process, understand and produce language is important and begins as soon as the child is born. Infants
recognize sounds in their environment, such as a mother's voice. Infants also become aware of their native language, those babbling sounds become
clear. "Ma–ma" or Da–da is usually heard and is often repeated. Babbling sounds may not refer to anything specific, "Ma–ma" can be signified as

Physical Development Essay
By the time a child enters school, aged 5, they are able to execute numerous fine motor skills that allow them to perform many activates to learn and
succeed at school. When most people think of their child's growth and development they can remember the ages at which their child first rolled,
crawled, or walked. How many can recall the age at which they picked up small items between their thumb and index finger, or transferred objects from
one hand to another? This is the beginning of motor development. Fine motor skills are the collected skills and activities involved using the hands and

Good nutrition starts at birth and should be maintained for life. Schools offer improved menus in school canteens to promote healthy eating which aids

"Nutrition affects all aspects of physical well being, including their energy levels, growth, and ability to concentrate." McDevitt and Ormrod (2010)
Children need physical activities to grow. Teachers should program regular exercise breaks and games that encourage physical activity. These exercises
should be enjoyable and challenging to the child. They should allow the child to improve at their level rather than competitive at this stage. Improving
at their level increases self esteem.
Students should participate in daily physical activities that promote development of fundamental movement as children who are unable to do simple

"You only bring pain," he said.
Tripping, I place my hand on the bathroom door and rush inside. The door swings behind me as I rush to the stall.
"We're here to help," I told him and he backed up into the wall. It wasn't the flashlight he was afraid of, it was me. I lean on the stall door and look
down at the floor. I breathe in and out trying to calm myself down.
What is wrong with you, James? Why can't you stop having these visions? My hand reaches for the toilet paper. Shaking, it rips a piece off and I dab
my wet forehead trying to remove the sweat that feels like it won't disappear.
"You said you actually talked to one of them?" I sat in a white chair in an interview on live television.
"Yes," I said nodding my head in agreement.
"Well, what did he say?" The news anchor leaned in closer as I kept my head to the floor. I sighed and scratched my head while speaking. "He said he
was scared ... and ... and wanted me to help him," I stated.
"And did you?" he asked again. I flashed out and looked at the boy sitting there. "Please let me help you," I said to him.
He got to his feet and ran out of the house. I started to run after the little boy. I got there and in his hand was the gun that I kicked to the side. He
raised the gun up and pointed it at his head. His little boney finger was sitting gently on the trigger.
"No!" I yelled as the body fell lifeless to the floor.
I zoned back to the interview and stared at the anchor. "Yes, but sadly we were ambushed,"

The Female Model Of The Male Model
The male model is also portrayed as in control because he handles the horse reins with a firm, tight grip while the female model's hand is shown as
controlled by her environment. Goffman described male hands as "firm and bold", molding to the items they hold as if having control (Jhally Codes of
Gender). The strong, firm grip of the male's left hand on the horse reins suggests that the male model is in control of the horse; the horse depicts
obedience to the male because the male model controls all the power. Another aspect of the male's dominance is shown through his calmness. He is
situated on the horse sitting up straight and relaxed, yet prepared for any change or danger that appears in the environment. In contrast to the male
hands, the positioning of the female model's hand depicts that she is not in control of her surroundings. In the video documentary, Goffman stated
female's hands are controlled by the environment; not the environment controlled by them (Jhally Codes of Gender). The female model gently rests her
hand on the horse's neck; she does not hold onto the reins suggesting that she is passive and not in control of the horse. The female hands are also
shown as not controlling, but rather just simply there (Jhally Codes of Gender). The placement of her hand portrays that the horse is free to roam,
resulting in controlling where their destination is instead of the woman manipulating the horse to where her destination is. Her hand depicts that she is

The week passed so fast that I barely remember from day to day what happened. The only days that I was sure of were the days that Louis visited.
Our petting became so heavy at times that I nearly gave into him, but then my common sense would take over and save me. It was not that I thought
he would abandon me at the altar; it was just that it was supposed to be that way. People were supposed to marry to enjoy the learning of and
exploring of each other's bodies, right. At least that was what I thought. However, Angelique had other ideas. Several days before thewedding, she took
me to La Nouvelle–OrlГ©ans. She told my father that it was to finish alterations on my gown; I knew she lied. I was to marry wearing her gown– she
had already had it altered to fit me perfectly.
When we arrived at our rooms, she had the servants draw a hot bath. While we waited, she poured us each a glass of wine. It was the first time I had
ever been allowed to drink wine. Angelique said now that I was to marry, it was allowed. After I finished the wine, she instructed me to get into the tub.
I got in and slipped beneath the hot water. It was very relaxing. A servant began massaging my body with a soapy sponge. Angelique gave me another
glass of wine, which I drunk a little too fast; then she poured me some more.
The hot soapy water felt good. The feel of the sponge making small firm circles on my skin was soothing. When the hand holding the sponge stalled
over my breast, it did not bother me, and

As he came up behind me I felt a warm sensation on my neck, only to realize it was my dad looking over my shoulder while reading my text

Iraq he is finally home. Now everything is going to be different, even mom doesn 't know and quite frankly I don 't want either of them to find out. I
can already imagine their expressions right now, Mom would look at me like a kicked puppy while Dad would drive off and handle things is way,
the military way. I already know that if I even implied the truth about us Mom and Dad would argue all night long.
"I thought I told you to get off that thing about an hour ago!", Dad said as he was trying to prove a point. He snatched it out of my hand and started
scrolling down my contacts. They were all mainly my close girlfriends, well all except for one. The last boy on the planet my parents would ever want
me to date, Liam Daniel Sanchez. With those dreamy hazel eyes, gorgeous lightbrown hair, and under his shirt is countless hours of swim practice.
Thank goodness I deleted any visible contact between Liam and I.

Compare And Contrast Martin And The Hand Grenade And Harry...
In his poems "Martin and the Hand Grenade" and "Harry Wood", Foulcher explores the ideas of the difference between adults and children in their
interpretation of warfare. Foulcher also explains the ideas that man has a violet streak which can lead to destruction. In the second poem, the composer
conveys the selfishness of living only to acquire wealth and how material possessions do not ultimately bring happiness and fulfillment. Foulcher uses
his senses and a variety of techniques to convey his ideas and experiences.
The poems "Martin and the Hand Grenade "is based on a personal experience that Foulcher had had while teaching at a boys school in one of his
history lessons. This poem portrays the idea that adults and children have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem Foulcher retells the emotion and attitude around the room. Once Martin begins to pass the weapon to the students around the
room it travels bringing interest as the boys examine it closely, eyes and imaginations widening to the power it is said to have had.
While this was happening Martin becomes aware that his class has had an opposite reaction to what he wanted them to have, in and instance the room
was converted into a battlefield in the boys imaginations. As the boys pretend to be soldiers in a war zone they "lift it into the air above the desk
trenches". This metaphor conveys the fascination to the weapon and their imaginations are sweeping the innocent children away into a battlefield
where there desks are there barriers. The children are gloriously fighting the enemy, behind their desks. The metaphor shows the huge impact the
grenade has had on the boys psyche as they are "transported away" from the classroom to the battlefield. Foulcher has come to the decision that even
children have a violent streak in them.
The second poem I and going to discus is Foulcher poem "Harry Wood". In this poem Foulcher explores the aspects of the struggle to survive and its
effect on the individual.
During Harry Woods early life, he was born into a poor simple family and was forced to work hard so that he could work his

The Story Of The Movie ' Lucy And I Were Up Front '
Everything was going great on our way home our two week long mission. Lucy and I were up front, talking side by side about the new addition of
Sorcerer Magazine while Natsu and Gray walked behind us. They were bickering once more about something that I didn 't bother to pay any
attention to. And Happy was most likely walking besides them. Happy wasn 't to happy with me at the moment, as I had stepped on his tail by
accident while trying to help out Natsu take down a monster. No matter how many apologize nor the amount of fish offered would let the little guy
glance in my direction. We were only a few minutes from getting back to the guild. "We 're only a few moments away from getting back to the guild
after being away for a whole week and you haven 't injured yourself." Lucy placed her hand on my shoulder, congratulating me on the victory of my
lack of clumsiness during our mission. "You somehow always manage to harm yourself." "I guess you 're right," I said sheepishly, running a hand
threw my knotted hair. Even if I tripped over myself I would somehow end up with a sprained ankle or a conclusion. I 've had countless encounters
of stumping down staircases, and knocking into chairs at the guild. I guess you could say I lack a perfect balanced to even walk in a straight line.
Lucy spoke too soon. While we were heading down a flight of stairs Natsu and Gray 's bickering turned into a full on fight with pushing and shoving.

the things they carried Essay
The things they carried,by Tim O'brien
"Oh man, you fuckin' trashed the fucker. You scrambled his sorry self, look at that, you did, you laid him out like fuckin' Shredded
Wheat." I chose to start off my essay with this particular exert from the book because I think that it very much represents the story in itself. Azar
said this, after Tim (supposedly) killed a Vietnamesesoldier with a hand grenade. It shows that in times of war, how callous men can become.
However, callousness varies, whether they chose to be apathetic, like Tim shows us after his grenade episode. Or whether they choose to be more
myopic, as shown through Azar's insensitive actions (i.e. the young lady's tragic loss, the puppy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the author undergoes an incredible change from the beginning of the story, and through the trials and tribulations, he becomes an almost
completely different person. Although there were more situations in which this particular change was exhibited, I feel that these represented it to the
most acute degree.
Incredible paranoia is one side effect of being surrounded by so much carnage. After Lee Strunk comes back from the undertakings involving his
broken nose, Dave Jensen went into a mentality consisting of paranoid lunacy. When you are around a person who has an incredible amount of
spite for you, as well as ready access to firearms, moreover nothing to lose, one cannot help but spend their days looking over your shoulder.
Living in fear of someone you have crossed, waiting for the day when you will be caught off guard, giving them the chance to exact their horrible
revenge. Jensen just could not take it any more, and he went as far as to break his own nose. It takes a certain type of motivation for a person to sit
down and break his own nose. But afterwards, he felt as if a great burden had been lifted off of his shoulders. And that is exactly what the war did, it
burdened these men, whether the baggage be physical or emotional, war is a burden that is not only difficult to remove, but difficult to carry.

Effective Communication As An Effective Negotiator Essay
"Delivering a difficult message is like throwing a hand grenade. Coated with sugar, thrown hard or soft, a hand grenade is still going to do damage"
(Stone, Patton, & Heen, 2000, p. 17). If the underlying context of our message is not desirable, no matter how hard we try to throw the grenade softly,
once it lands, it shows its consequences. Difficult conversations are not about who's right, rather they are about dissimilar insights, perceptions,
interpretations, and beliefs.
Effective communication is not only important to be an effective negotiator, but it's very essential in all aspects of life. Regardless of our level of
proficiency, some conversations are always cause of anxiety and frustrations.
As argued by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen, "conversations take place on multiple levels: the rational, the emotional, and the "identity"
level". Essentially, by considering these parts of conversation, we can learn each party's version of what was articulated; what feelings take place
throughout the conversation; and to what extent one's identity may have been exposed, sapped, or fortified by the dialogue.
The "rational" conversations are essentially the "what happened" conversations, which are usually made much more complicated than what parties'
initial expectations are and commonly involve tension over what happened and who is to blame for. In such conversations, each side of the
conversation should look for their contribution to the dilemma, rather than

There may come a time that he'd have to dump her. Just like his old man dumped women, Gregg could easily be like that too. "What's up? Gregg

Theme Of Truth In Tim O Brien's The Things They Carried
Tim O'Brien's novel, The Things They Carried, is about several short stories following O'Brien and his squadron in the Vietnam War. In the book,
theme of truth gets brought up frequently. Specifically, the book delves into the difference between "happening–truth" and "story–truth". O'Brien
elaborates that "happening–truth" is about the legitimate feelings and emotions felt by those that was apart of the event while, in contrast, the "story
truth" is the objective truth of what had actually happened. This theme gets alluded to in multiple places throughout the book. It is referenced when
O'Brien mentions how he made up some details of Curt Lemon's death, when he admits to not actually killing a man near My Khe, and the way the
soldiers cope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O'Brien mentions a method that him and his men use to cope with all of the death: " By slighting death, by acting, we pretended it was not the
terrible thing it was. By our language, which was both hard and wistful, we transformed the bodies into piles of waste. Thus, when someone got
killed, as Curt Lemon did, his body was not really a body, but rather one small bit of waste in the midst of a much wider wastage. I learned that
words make a difference. It's easier to cope with a kicked bucket than a corpse; if it isn't human, it doesn't matter much if it's dead. And so a VC nurse,
fried by napalm, was a crispy critter. A Vietnamese baby, which lay nearby, was a roasted peanut. "Just a crunchie munchie," Rat Kiley said as he
stepped over the body." O'Brien and his men use colorful language to cope with what they see and do in the war. This contrast of what they pretend is
happening to what is actually happening is comparable to the contrast between happening truth and story truth. The story truth is that they didn't just
bomb a village filled with innocent men, women, and children. The happening truth is that they did.
In closing, O'Brien's mention of story truth and happening truth refers to the subjective emotions felt during the event and the factual recounting of the
events as they happened,

If Everyone Knew The Injured Can Be Gained Essay
Prepper Journal: If Everyone Is Injured the Injured Cannot Be Attended
Some of you may remember squad or platoon leaders reminding you to maintain distance. Don't bunch up as you head out past the wire into the
badlands. Maintain at least 5 yards or 15 feet. One of the reasons for maintaining distance is if someone steps on an anti–personal mine, for example,
soldiers next to them are not injured as well. The same would apply if a hand grenade was launched, or if the team walks into an ambush.
Sometimes the only thing a soldier had to hang on to was the fact if they were injured others would Evac them to a Landing Zone (LZ) for evacuation
to the rear for treatment. Dust Off, (Dedicated Unhesitating Service to Our Fighting Forces), was the call sign for Air Ambulance Units, which usually

Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Essay
Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost
Robert Frost tells a disturbing story in 'Out, Out, ––', in which a little boy loses his life. The title of the poem leaves the reader to substitute the last
word of the title, which some would assume would be out because of the repetition. The title is referring to the boy exiting the living world. Frost
drags the reader's mind into the poem with the imagistic description of the tools and atmosphere the little boy is surrounded by.
Frost describes the little boy's work in the first two lines by saying the 'stove–length sticks of wood,' inferring the practical nature of his work. The
mountains described in the next lines further add to the captive nature of the poem. Vermont provides a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sister prepares the evening meal, making her contribution to the family; and calls on the boy to come and eat. The saw in the boy?s hands was
still running and when he took his attention away from his work, and that split second of carelessness cost him an extremity. His instincts raised his arm
upward to keep all the blood from spilling out immediately. When he realized what was happening, the boy finally realized he was to young to be
doing a man?s work. The boy ?saw all spoiled,? and now knew his whole childhood had vanished and it was impossible to get it back. The boy
frantically called out to his sister to make the doctor keep his hand on. The boy?s body must have instantly gone into shock and not felt the absence
of the hand. When the doctor arrived he gave him some ether to make him go to sleep. The little boy began to lose his pulse and soon he was a
stranger to the world. The people surrounding the boy never expected the loss of his hand to tragically end the little boy?s life. Frost?s almost
appalling casual description of death shocks the reader enough to make them think. ?Since they were not the one dead, turned to their affairs,?
describes the environment of the survivors. They are forced to move on with their life and keep working because they cannot afford to stop and mourn.

What Type Of Body Language? Essay
Employee Interaction Body language is the postures, facial expressions, and gestures we make to communicate. Body language can be used in place of
words or it can be accompanied by spoken language. This form of language allows those involved in a conversation to understand communication with
others more easily and effectively. The way a person stands, moves and focuses their attention allows others to notice and understand how the person
feels in a situation. If someone is not comfortable in a situation, they may say they are comfortable, but could look down, keep their feet together or
crossed, and they may hold their arms close to their body. This signals to the others that this person is not comfortable. Employee interactions with
customers and other employees is unique in that their interactions with customers are very different from their interactions with each other. While
conducting research on employee interactions at an apple orchard in central Maine on a Saturday and Sunday morning, I asked myself the following
questions: What type of body language was used while communicating with the customer? What gestures did the employee and the customer make?
How was this different from the body language and gestures made between co–workers? These questions are essential to the research, because asking
the questions during observations allows for more accurate and detailed observation. The questions guide the research and keeps it focused on the
movements of the chosen

I Can Remember Mine With Perfect Clarity Essay
As babies most of us go through some sort of traumatic experience. Whether it be a high fever from an illness or a near miss car wreck. Nine times
out of ten we never remember these incidents, with only stories from relatives to know that they happened. I can remember mine with perfect
clarity. At the age of one year old, one day before my second birthday, I sat in my day care with my hands leaning back looking up at the colorful
displays. While it is illegal in North Carolina to not have heavy bookshelves mounted to the ground, this day care had chosen to forgo that rule and
use them as room dividers. A little boy on the other side of the divider with sandy blond hair shoved his backpack into the cubby, excited to go out
and play among his friends. One of the poorly taken care of wheels on the bottom of this bookshelf collapsed toppling over onto my hand, crushing
almost every bone in the process and partially severing two of my fingers on my left hand. After 3 blood transfusions, a life flight trip to Duke
Hospital, 3 later surgeries, and careful reconstruction, I am now left with a functioning hand albeit slightly deformed on the two severed fingers. These
incredible doctors were able to save the nail bed although my middle finger curves over somewhat bent inward along with some scarring. This is what
life would be like for me with a perfect hand for three days.
Day one, I would wake up in my bed and sit up. I would excitedly run my fingers through my hair like most

Pure Contempt Is Not For Free
"No, sir" The man said, "It is not for free." Endless mass of junk was stretched to either side of the stinking ally. I picked up the rusty old trophy
which bore my name. The cold iron surface was visible from the craters in the gold paint. I scratched the surface and a large chunk of the fake
golden paint fell to the land. The person manning the junk glowered at me. I shrugged and put the trophy back. "Do you know that this piece of
junk has my name carved on it?" I asked, amused. The man was confounded for a moment. He didn't say anything. He knew me. Of course, he

could have done nothing. He would have had to return it to me. "No, sir" He repeated himself, "It is not for free." I smiled. I was not going to
argue. My gaze went back to the trophy. Amidst all the junk, it was one piece that was attached to me. Funny, how we throw things that we feel are

When I asked him if he experienced any combat he said; "yes, I experienced some combat. But most of the time I spent in combat was in a tank. Not too
much action there." A typical day in my grandfathers' life at the time was to wake up at the crack of dawn and get ready for a full day of combat,
well at least for the ground troops that didn't have a tank to be protected by. Of course for him, driving a tank was easier then being a ground troop.

I asked him if he thought about the war very often now and he said; "so so. Not alot. Glad its over." When I asked him if he lost any friends or

Cambodi The Collective Understanding Of American Army...
The cool thick air whips and slaps against helicopter rotor blades, slicing the quite morning calm into a clamorous chorus of engine wine and rotor
clap. In December of 1968, American soldiers were "not" in the jungles of Cambodia (Fluty, 2011). Or so was the collective understanding of
American's. However, for 60 elite American Army soldiers, Cambodia was a breeding ground for North Vietnamese objectives throughout the region
(Fluty, 2011). On one such occasion, members of the small and secret MACV–SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observation
Group [Green Berets]) set out on their warhorses to rendezvous with their Vietnamese counter parts on a mission to rescue an American prisoner of war

He was 70 years old and is America's most decorated forgotten warrior.
The men of SOG stepped into enemy saturated terrain and just after dawn, already dripping wet from due and humidity (Fluty, 2011). Left to their
devices, the jungle was hot and oozing with what American GI's came to call "the funk" (Bogguess, 1969). The next thing Col. Robert Howard,
then a Sargent First Class (SFC) can remember is feeling the cool rush of blood over his head and eyes (Fluty, 2011). He was wounded horribly
from an ensuing ambush that would instantly kill half the men with him that morning (Feherty, 2010). The men who were still alive ascended into
the jungle to take cover and as Col. Howard came back to his senses, he could not see and his physical mobility was all but gone (Fluty, 2011). The
next thing he recalls is a deluging and powerful smell of burning fuel and flesh. Col. Howard surmised that in his immobile and blind state that he too
would soon burn alive. Then his site returned, soon followed by dexterity in his limbs. It was at that moment he retrieved a fragmentation grenade from
his load carrier. The North Vietnamesesoldier charring dead American and Vietnamese soldiers with a flamethrower suddenly stopped, nearly standing
over Howard when they both realized that he was still a member of the living (Fluty, 2011). Col. Howard enlisted into the Army (July 20, 1956) at the

Functions Of Human Sensory Biology
Sensory Biology Lab 6
Name: Dominic Siaw
Biology 132
T.A: Marian Wahl
Date Performed: 4/7/15
Date due: 4/14/1
Abstract
In this laboratory students will perform various experiments to demonstrate various properties of human sensory biology. Students worked in pairs and
performed 5 experiments. These experiments were based on touch receptors, temperature receptors, two point discrimination on the skin, locating
distance from the fovea to our blind spot and measuring visual activity. T–test was performed and the results explained that there is no significant
difference in how the body adapts to external stimuli.
Introduction
Sensory Biology is being able to perceive stimuli from the environment. The most common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples include eyes, nose and skin. The eyes are the main sensory organs being tested in this experiment. Eyes allow us to detect visible light
which is reflected on images and allows us to see them. (McMillan 35)
In this laboratory, an experiment will be conducted to explore the human senses. Most importantly the senses of touch. Various parts of the body will
be tested to see how the body adapts to external simuli. These external stimui will be a coin touch, temperature and a touch from a two point
discrimination. Also the ability to read from afar will be tested using the Snellen examination chart.
Experimental Procedure
The first experiment was an exercise based on adaptations of touch receptors. One student obtained a coin and a stop watch. The other student was the
test subject. The test subject placed his/her palm–down on the desk. The test subject closed their eyes and a coin was placed on the back of the test
subject's hand (lower side of right most knuckle) and the stop watch was started. The clock was stopped when the test subject stopped feeling the
coin. The time was recorded. The same procedure was repeated but during these times the coin was placed at 4 different locations of the hand. The
time for each adaptation was recorded. This test was performed twice for each location and time for each adaptation was recorded. The T–test was
then calculated to see if there is a statistically

Essay On Episode Of Hands

  • 1. Essay on Episode Of Hands Episode of Hands The unexpected interest made him flush. Suddenly he seemed to forget the pain,– Consented,–and held out One finger from the others. The gash was bleeding, and a shaft of sun That glittered in and out among the wheels, Fell lightly, warmly, down into the wound. And as the fingers of the factory owner's son, That knew a grip for books and tennis As well as one for iron and leather,– As his taut, spare fingers wound the gauze Around the thick bed of the wound, His own hands seemed to him

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It gives evidence of having lived two separate lives, one on top of the other, but neither owning the upper hand at any time. It is a poem of change, and how things never change as they are expected to do, nor do they change before our eyes as we would believe, but instead change us in a way that makes us blind to ourselves. "As the fingers of the factory owner's son, That knew a grip for books and tennis"; here is described the man's childhood, and here, "As well as one for iron and leather,–", is described his adulthood, with responsibilities and duties to perform. The style of Hart Crane is nearly unmatched. Here he uses a free verse structure, written as a Blackwood Article, in a story that depicts an event which is the theme and the subject of the poem. He uses little rhyme, with any structure, but the words flow from frame to frame as though a rhyme scheme had been used quite frivolously. There is also a great deal of imagery. A good amount of emphasis is placed upon the hands, the lifeblood of our interaction with the world, and as the hands are described against the sunlight we can nearly see a picture perfect masterpiece within our minds that helps us along in the story. There is also a well hidden hint at imagery here; "His own hands seemed to him Like wings of butterflies", means quite clearly, that he has most recently undergone a ... • 3. I Am About Last Night I wake up just enough to roll over. As I do so, the annoying, repetitive sound of my alarm clock fills my ears. I groan and roll myself out of bed. I trudge over to my dresser and turn the alarm off. I don 't feel like going to school today, especially since I know that Dad will be calling Mom while I 'm gone. As I walk to the bathroom, I grab my phone from my desk. I see that I have two new messages and one new email. I read the first message, which is from my mom, telling me that she 'd be gone this morning. I open the second message, and of course, it 's from Damon. Text to Karrison from Damon: "Good morning, beautiful. I hope you have an amazing day! I 'm still very sorry about last night. I know I must have disappointed you, and I feel awful. I promise that I 'll make it up to you!" Well, I don 't know how he would expect that he disappointed me. I 'm great at hiding my emotions! I wonder how he 's going to try to make it up to me. I walk over to the mirror and almost shriek at my appearance. My eyes are crusty, and my long, brown hair is sticking out in all directions. I was painfully reminded of Einstein. I look down at my sink and groan. I look like an Einstein raccoon! I forgot to clean my makeup off before I went to sleep. Looks like I have a bunch of work to do before I leave for school. With excitement, I realize it 's Friday and almost jump up and down. Face and hair or outfit first? I should try to do something with my hair first. I wash my face and dry ... • 4. The Night "So let me get this straight, you're going to find a legendary ring, slay a dragon, then marry a princess?" My friend Mary questioned. She was walking around the room still facing me. "Yes, indeed." I replied. I certainly did intend on accomplishing this impossible dream. It might be a hard act to achieve, but no pain no gain right? "Jerry, don't you think that's too umm, big of a..." She started. "No, it's not too big. I mean, sure it's a hard thing to accomplish, but I believe I can." I admitted, "Stop crushing my dreams, Mary." I shouted, storming out the chamber. I approach the wizard's spire as I wonder what lies inside. I climb up the stairs, yet before I can even knock, the door flies open. "Magical." I murmur to myself, my footsteps echoing in the empty chamber. "Hello?" I utter, spotting objects in the room: a desk with a chair, a spiral staircase leading around the tower, and windows allowing the bright sunshine to shine in. Then, I see something that makes me do a double take. Is that a wand? I ponder, heading toward the stairs. I ascend up the stairs counting the seconds it takes to get up them. in case I need to escape I should know how long it'll take. I find the wizard situated on a chair facing an altar. "Are you the wizard?" I inquire. "Yes, my name is Larry, anything you need?" Larry interrogated. "Actually, yes," I revealed, "I was going to ask you about a ring." "What kind of ring?" "A magical one." "I would hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Field Work, Non-Verbal Communication Essay A few days ago I took a trip to my local mall and took a seat at the food court. My objective was to observe individuals engaging in non–verbal communication and document what I witnessed. After only a few minutes I became aware of a couple sitting within public distance, about 15–20ft away from me. They were having an argument about how the male was being cold and unaffectionate. While observing them I realized they were using various gestures while arguing. I will inform you of what type they were and what they were conveying. During the argument, both individuals demonstrated affect displays. These are facial expressions motivated by emotion such as a smile or frown. The female had a frown on her face to demonstrate that she was sad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this was to communicate to the female that he would like her to stop talking so he could say something. After the male verbally communicated that he doesn't believe that he is being cold and unaffectionate, the female used an emblem. Emblems are gestures that have a direct verbal translation and can stand alone such as the "ok" sign. She twisted her head to the right and then to the left repeatedly indicated "No, I disagree with you". The male put his hand out in front of him, palms facing up and tilted his head up, this combination of gestures is usually translated into "what?" or "why?", in this situation, it means "why?". Near the end of this argument, a couple of adaptors were utilized. Adaptors are gestures that make you feel more comfortable in a communication situation such as twirling your hair or tapping your fingers. While the female mentioned various situations where the male is unaffectionate she puts her elbows on the table and massages the sides of her head with her hands, I believe she did this to relief tension she was feeling from the argument in order to feel more comfortable. The male decided that her reasons for feeling that he is unaffectionate are legitimate. While verbally communicating that he agrees with her and he will make changes, the female reaches her hand out and holds his, further seeking comfort now that the argument has been settled. In conclusion, it is evident that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflective Account on Communication Essay example Reflective account on communication This assignment is a reflective account on communicating with a patient who cannot communicate verbally. To remain confidential I will call the patient, Patient A. I'm going to discuss the importance of non–verbal communication within a healthcare setting. Patient A was a 63 year old lady suffering from MND which resulted in her losing her speech. This was my first shift back from having a few days off and I returned to work on a night shift. Patient A was admitted to the hospice that day. She was admitted for general deterioration and she had tried to maintain her independence up until breaking point. This information was recorded on the patient's notes and handed over to the day staff on the next morning. I will now discuss how I was thinking and feeling during this event. I had been working at the hospice for over a year and had looked after patients with MND before. I had an idea of how it can affect communicating with the patient. I was apprehensive about approaching Patient A as I didn't know what difficulties I may find whilst trying to communicate with her. She was able to communicate very well using the pen and writing down, and using hand gestures. I learnt that by speaking clearly with easy to answer questions we were able to communicate with each other effectively. Afterwards I felt pleased that were able to determine the problem and find a solution for her, despite the communication barriers. Evaluation I feel that the communicating between Patient A and myself worked well during this event. I noticed that she was uncomfortable by her body language and I picked up quickly which method was best to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My Breaching Social Norm Experiment For my breaching social norm experiment, I was determined to do something I would never do even if it was a dare, especially since my ability to interact with strangers is not what I consider advanced. So, I decided to make people feel uncomfortable by holding their hand. What I would do is walk up to the person from behind and slowly make my way to their hand to make them feel even more uncomfortable. People normally hold hands with their significant other, or with someone they know, like a friend or family member, so to be holding hands with a stranger is infrequent and abnormal. In preparation for starting our experiment, it took my confidant, Carla, and I about an hour to finally initiate the first move. Before even holding hands with strangers my mind was swirling with multiple questions and thoughts, like "Why am I even doing this?", "I don't appreciate making people feel uncomfortable.", "Why is Mrs.Henry torturing me!", "Can I just not do it?", and so on. In addition to my thoughts and questions, I felt myself sweating and my stomach felt as if it was in a twisted knot. While I approached my first victim I felt the temperature of my body raise up to boiling point and the color of my skin turn from snow white to lava red in a split second. To make things worse, once I held onto the lady 's hand, she was gripping onto mine and was holding on tight, and my reaction was to laugh because when you are in an uncomfortable situation you honestly don't know how to ... • 9. Children 's Center Preschool Room For My Prosocial... I went to Keiki Hau'oli Children's Center preschool room for my prosocial observation assignment. During my visit, it was indoor free play time, meanwhile teachers were offering breakfast. The schedule is not rush, they can play indoor and outdoor with free choices for one hour. First, the room was organized by the section. Each section has double or multiple amount of toys for children to play with their friends. For example, on a shelf, there are three baby dolls and their matching clothes. Children interact each other by asking questions such as, "Baby is hungry. What can I do?" Another child said, "I will show you." She used her baby bottle to pretend feeding a baby. There is big open floor space in the back of the room for the children to play freely. Children were playing with blocks and cars on that open floor. Some were playing with "Kapla" on a low table with one caregiver. Other children were sitting at the carpet, listening a story. Children play peacefully because there are variety of activity choices they can play. Two things if I am able to change, I will change the floor arrangement and add more books. First, I will move free floor space from back of the room to the middle close to the entrance because I can hear them well, so I could interact with them more. I like ocean, nature, and Hawaiian culture area. They display nicely, but they are not create any prosocial environment. I display more attractive to the children. I will put books related with ... • 10. Descriptive Essay Beigely Familiar You're walking down the sidewalk on your way home. A chilly breeze blows, and you hunch your shoulders, shoving your hands into the pockets of your jacket. Feeling a need for spontaneity, you decide to take a different turn. After five minutes of walking you come upon a corner store. You feel an urge to go in and you don't know why; maybe because the store looks impossible somehow, with its smudged outline and colors that are slightly less visible than the colors of the other buildings on the street, or because of the way that none of the passersby even give it a glance. You enter the store and wander around, looking for nothing in particular. I beckon you over to the counter where I stand operating the register. I hand you a vaguely hamburger–shaped, blurry lump of beige. You stare at it. It is only acolor; a color with form. It shouldn't exist, yet there it rests in your hands, barely tangible. I explain that the beige can give you whatever you desire, in the moment you desire it. You listen intently, nodding in wonder. You purchase the beige and deposit the change in your jacket pocket, where it clinks softly. When you exit the store, you notice a tall man in a long jacket staring at you. You make eye contact, and something in your mind registers, but you ignore it. His head reads "depressed" but he smiles at you, and you wonder why. None of the other passersby even give you a glance. Suddenly, a flash of greenlight overtakes you. You find yourself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Pain And Emergency Room Visit CC Betsy is a 31–year–old female here today to discuss hand pain and an emergency room visit. HPI The patient tells me she was cutting an avocado on September 17th. She said she was using a knife to remove the pit of the avocado and was holding the avocado in her left hand, the knife in her right hand, and was trying to stab at the pit. Unfortunately, she missed the pit and cut her hand. She said the wound was to the area above her fifth metatarsal, more on the palm side, than on the finger side itself. She said right away it was extremely painful and she noticed after some of the pain dissipated, that she was feeling a little numbness there. She said initially she did think much of it, but when she talked to her husband about it, he was worried about the numbness and prompted her to go to the emergency room. She was evaluated at Exeter Hospital. There, the wound was irrigated. She had two sutures placed. She did receive a tetanus vaccine while there, as well and was sent home. She was told that perhaps there was a mild injury to the nerve, but they did not think that there was a true severing of that nerve. She said she did not think much of it. The cut seemed to heal fine. There was no redness ever. It does not, in her mind, seem to be swollen. However, just in the last week, has noticed worsening types of pain. The pain is not over exactly where the stitches were, but more proximal, as well as if she has her fifth finger fully extended, she feels pain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Breaching Social Norm Experiment For my breaching social norm experiment I was determined to do something I would never do even if it was a dare, especially since my ability to interact with strangers is not the best. So, I decided to make people feel uncomfortable by holding their hand. What I would do is walk up to the person from behind and slowly make my way to their hand to make them feel even more uncomfortable. People normally hold hands with their significant other, or with someone they know like a friend or family member, so to be holding hands with a stranger is out of the ordinary and awkward. In preparation to starting our experiment it took my confidant Carla and I about an hour to finally initiate the first move. Inside the truck an engineer sits in front of a computer and aims and shoots the invisible laser at the enemy. The fiber laser only costs less than 10 dollars per shot. This makes the fiber lasers a very effective line of defense against flying targets. • 15. Essay on CYCLE OF THE INFANTRYMAN CYCLE OF THE INFANTRYMAN by LCPL BACH, GEORGE The Cycle of the Infantryman applies to fire and maneuver for a combat element. For example purposes the buddy team will be our combat element and a static enemy position (e.g. bunker) will be the target. The phases of the cycle are SHOOT, ASSESS, MOVE, AND KILL. The cycle may loop until there is no longer an enemy threat or until target position is gained. The following is a break down of each phase. –SHOOT During this phase of the cycle a base of fire is established along with identifying the enemy capability. During this phase the object is to suppress the enemy for maneuver. As an example this is when a Marine may use a frag grenade to eliminate/shock/suppress the enemy position. ... When the Marines enter the target position they will clear the structure/bunker/hole, eliminating the threat. The Marines are able to do so by EXPLOITING the enemies weaknesses/hesitation /disorientation. There are many ways to be the cause of the "gap" in an enemy defense. Marines may use a larger weapon emplacement such as a machine gun. Also Marines can use a grenade or HEDP ammunition to destroy enemy equipment, kill the enemy, or at the minimum concuss them to cause a large enough lapse in orientation for the Marine to move into the enemy position. At this point the Marine will use the lapse to take the target, during this process time has priority as the speed of the Marine and the hesitation of the enemy determines the outcome. The Marines will repeat the process to push forward or hold the position depending on the mission. It must have been midday, I thought to myself, "I've been out for some time." I tried to gather how I got here, the snow around me was biting my skin, and I couldn't feel most of my toes. I couldn't hear any birds chirping and I could smell something peculiar in the air. I sniffed the air for a moment like a bloodhound before I suddenly remembered what had happened as the strong smell filled my nostrils. I flashed back to my cold, isolated cell, and the brutal guards tormenting us, trying to break our spirits. As I tried to move my hands I felt something around my right index finger. I raised my frozen hands up to my face and brushed off the snow. There I saw a small steel ring frozen around my glove. My eyes widened at the thought of what I knew must have just happened. I lifted my head off of my sony pillow and turned around. I looked in disbelief at what I saw, an empty field with a smoking concrete building in the distance. I saw what appeared to be 3 small red dots with sirens heading that way, and could hear dogs barking and people screaming followed with sharp cracks of gunfire. By "symbol–making ability" I am referring to the spoken word, writing, numbers and pictures; the ways in which we communicate. It is this ability which defines many of us and differentiates humans from the array of other mammals on this planet. However, when we communicate with people, we generally tend to be taught to pay attention to the spoken symbols, in the form of words that people say and tend to ignore body language in communication. So here today are some steps to follow to heighten your awareness of body language in communication with particular reference to gestures and maybe you can utilise them more yourself. Step One: Firstly, each time you are having a chat with someone, observe the gestures they make. There will often be patterns and repeated ways of utilising gestures. Notice how certain gestures accompany certain words and phrases. Think about what they are doing with this gesture too. When you listen to someone, their hands will complement or emphasise what they are saying to you or what they are attempting to communicate. You can watch them paint pictures in the air, and interact with their imaginary world as they speak. • 22. The Female Model Of The Male Model The male model is also portrayed as in control because he handles the horse reins with a firm, tight grip while the female model's hand is shown as controlled by her environment. Goffman described male hands as "firm and bold", molding to the items they hold as if having control (Jhally Codes of Gender). The strong, firm grip of the male's left hand on the horse reins suggests that the male model is in control of the horse; the horse depicts obedience to the male because the male model controls all the power. Another aspect of the male's dominance is shown through his calmness. He is situated on the horse sitting up straight and relaxed, yet prepared for any change or danger that appears in the environment. In contrast to the male hands, the positioning of the female model's hand depicts that she is not in control of her surroundings. In the video documentary, Goffman stated female's hands are controlled by the environment; not the environment controlled by them (Jhally Codes of Gender). The female model gently rests her hand on the horse's neck; she does not hold onto the reins suggesting that she is passive and not in control of the horse. The female hands are also shown as not controlling, but rather just simply there (Jhally Codes of Gender). • 29. Effective Communication As An Effective Negotiator Essay "Delivering a difficult message is like throwing a hand grenade. Coated with sugar, thrown hard or soft, a hand grenade is still going to do damage" (Stone, Patton, & Heen, 2000, p. 17). If the underlying context of our message is not desirable, no matter how hard we try to throw the grenade softly, once it lands, it shows its consequences. Difficult conversations are not about who's right, rather they are about dissimilar insights, perceptions, interpretations, and beliefs. Effective communication is not only important to be an effective negotiator, but it's very essential in all aspects of life. Regardless of our level of proficiency, some conversations are always cause of anxiety and frustrations. As argued by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen, "conversations take place on multiple levels: the rational, the emotional, and the "identity" level". Essentially, by considering these parts of conversation, we can learn each party's version of what was articulated; what feelings take place throughout the conversation; and to what extent one's identity may have been exposed, sapped, or fortified by the dialogue. The "rational" conversations are essentially the "what happened" conversations, which are usually made much more complicated than what parties' initial expectations are and commonly involve tension over what happened and who is to blame for. In such conversations, each side of the conversation should look for their contribution to the dilemma, rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. A Short Story : A Story? Gregg lay on his bed, hands covering his face. Tommy was dead. Shot in cold blood by Maynard. A man he thought was his friend. He killed his friend, Tommy without a flinch. Would Maynard also shoot him? He supposed not, because he was Frank Daggott's son. But Gregg didn't want to be here. He didn't want to be a part of any killing. Gregg wished he was with Julia. Where was she? There was no reason why she wasn't here. There may come a time that he'd have to dump her. Just like his old man dumped women, Gregg could easily be like that too. "What's up? Gregg didn't hear anyone come in. But Maynard stood inside the door, shaking keys in one hand and holding a large silver mug in the other. His right cheek looked lopsided while he chewed on his tobacco. "Get up." Gregg popped up. Maynard stuffed the keys in his pocket. Quickly, he reached inside his mug and flung what looked like a green ball onto the bed. "Grenade!" He yelled. "Get down!" Gregg dove to the floor, curling his arms over the face. A sudden chuckle caused Gregg to peer up. Maynard's chuckle switched to a laugh. "What's wrong with you, boy?" The old man spit tobacco into the mug and moved toward the bed. "You son of a bitch. You could've killed me, Maynard." "Yeah. I suppose I am one SOB." He picked up the grenade and placed it inside the mug. "But what's gotten into you? Didn't I train you right?" There was never any real training. Gregg's father was a frequent ... • 31. Theme Of Truth In Tim O Brien's The Things They Carried Tim O'Brien's novel, The Things They Carried, is about several short stories following O'Brien and his squadron in the Vietnam War. In the book, theme of truth gets brought up frequently. Specifically, the book delves into the difference between "happening–truth" and "story–truth". O'Brien elaborates that "happening–truth" is about the legitimate feelings and emotions felt by those that was apart of the event while, in contrast, the "story truth" is the objective truth of what had actually happened. This theme gets alluded to in multiple places throughout the book. It is referenced when O'Brien mentions how he made up some details of Curt Lemon's death, when he admits to not actually killing a man near My Khe, and the way the soldiers cope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O'Brien mentions a method that him and his men use to cope with all of the death: " By slighting death, by acting, we pretended it was not the terrible thing it was. By our language, which was both hard and wistful, we transformed the bodies into piles of waste. Thus, when someone got killed, as Curt Lemon did, his body was not really a body, but rather one small bit of waste in the midst of a much wider wastage. I learned that words make a difference. It's easier to cope with a kicked bucket than a corpse; if it isn't human, it doesn't matter much if it's dead. And so a VC nurse, fried by napalm, was a crispy critter. A Vietnamese baby, which lay nearby, was a roasted peanut. "Just a crunchie munchie," Rat Kiley said as he stepped over the body." O'Brien and his men use colorful language to cope with what they see and do in the war. This contrast of what they pretend is happening to what is actually happening is comparable to the contrast between happening truth and story truth. The story truth is that they didn't just bomb a village filled with innocent men, women, and children. The happening truth is that they did. In closing, O'Brien's mention of story truth and happening truth refers to the subjective emotions felt during the event and the factual recounting of the events as they happened, ... If Everyone Knew The Injured Can Be Gained Essay Prepper Journal: If Everyone Is Injured the Injured Cannot Be Attended Some of you may remember squad or platoon leaders reminding you to maintain distance. Don't bunch up as you head out past the wire into the badlands. Maintain at least 5 yards or 15 feet. One of the reasons for maintaining distance is if someone steps on an anti–personal mine, for example, soldiers next to them are not injured as well. The same would apply if a hand grenade was launched, or if the team walks into an ambush. Sometimes the only thing a soldier had to hang on to was the fact if they were injured others would Evac them to a Landing Zone (LZ) for evacuation to the rear for treatment. • 33. Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Essay Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Robert Frost tells a disturbing story in 'Out, Out, ––', in which a little boy loses his life. The title of the poem leaves the reader to substitute the last word of the title, which some would assume would be out because of the repetition. The title is referring to the boy exiting the living world. Frost drags the reader's mind into the poem with the imagistic description of the tools and atmosphere the little boy is surrounded by. Frost describes the little boy's work in the first two lines by saying the 'stove–length sticks of wood,' inferring the practical nature of his work. The mountains described in the next lines further add to the captive nature of the poem. Vermont provides a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The saw in the boy?s hands was still running and when he took his attention away from his work, and that split second of carelessness cost him an extremity. His instincts raised his arm upward to keep all the blood from spilling out immediately. When he realized what was happening, the boy finally realized he was to young to be doing a man?s work. The boy ?saw all spoiled,? and now knew his whole childhood had vanished and it was impossible to get it back. The boy frantically called out to his sister to make the doctor keep his hand on. The boy?s body must have instantly gone into shock and not felt the absence of the hand. When the doctor arrived he gave him some ether to make him go to sleep. The little boy began to lose his pulse and soon he was a stranger to the world. The people surrounding the boy never expected the loss of his hand to tragically end the little boy?s life. Frost?s almost appalling casual description of death shocks the reader enough to make them think. ?Since they were not the one dead, turned to their affairs,? describes the environment of the survivors. They are forced to move on with their life and keep working because they cannot afford to stop and mourn. • 34. What Type Of Body Language? Essay Employee Interaction Body language is the postures, facial expressions, and gestures we make to communicate. Body language can be used in place of words or it can be accompanied by spoken language. This form of language allows those involved in a conversation to understand communication with others more easily and effectively. The way a person stands, moves and focuses their attention allows others to notice and understand how the person feels in a situation. If someone is not comfortable in a situation, they may say they are comfortable, but could look down, keep their feet together or crossed, and they may hold their arms close to their body. This signals to the others that this person is not comfortable. Employee interactions with customers and other employees is unique in that their interactions with customers are very different from their interactions with each other. While conducting research on employee interactions at an apple orchard in central Maine on a Saturday and Sunday morning, I asked myself the following questions: What type of body language was used while communicating with the customer? What gestures did the employee and the customer make? How was this different from the body language and gestures made between co–workers? These questions are essential to the research, because asking the questions during observations allows for more accurate and detailed observation. The questions guide the research and keeps it focused on the movements of the chosen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. I Can Remember Mine With Perfect Clarity Essay As babies most of us go through some sort of traumatic experience. Whether it be a high fever from an illness or a near miss car wreck. Nine times out of ten we never remember these incidents, with only stories from relatives to know that they happened. I can remember mine with perfect clarity. At the age of one year old, one day before my second birthday, I sat in my day care with my hands leaning back looking up at the colorful displays. While it is illegal in North Carolina to not have heavy bookshelves mounted to the ground, this day care had chosen to forgo that rule and use them as room dividers. A little boy on the other side of the divider with sandy blond hair shoved his backpack into the cubby, excited to go out and play among his friends. One of the poorly taken care of wheels on the bottom of this bookshelf collapsed toppling over onto my hand, crushing almost every bone in the process and partially severing two of my fingers on my left hand. After 3 blood transfusions, a life flight trip to Duke Hospital, 3 later surgeries, and careful reconstruction, I am now left with a functioning hand albeit slightly deformed on the two severed fingers. These incredible doctors were able to save the nail bed although my middle finger curves over somewhat bent inward along with some scarring. This is what life would be like for me with a perfect hand for three days. Day one, I would wake up in my bed and sit up. I would excitedly run my fingers through my hair like most ... I picked up the rusty old trophy which bore my name. The cold iron surface was visible from the craters in the gold paint. I scratched the surface and a large chunk of the fake golden paint fell to the land. The person manning the junk glowered at me. I shrugged and put the trophy back. "Do you know that this piece of junk has my name carved on it?" I asked, amused. The man was confounded for a moment. He didn't say anything. He knew me. Of course, he knew me! I used to see him every day. Every Sunday, he used to have a sale of all the junk he had collected from neighbourhood. I went last Sunday, but didn't found anything of use. Today, I did. A look of pure contempt was coming from his small eyes. If I demanded for the trophy, he could have done nothing. He would have had to return it to me. "No, sir" He repeated himself, "It is not for free." I smiled. I was not going to argue. My gaze went back to the trophy. Amidst all the junk, it was one piece that was attached to me. Funny, how we throw things that we feel are no longer attached to us and suddenly when we see it again, we remember why we loved it in the first place. On the one side of the trophy, set on the table, was a small used comb. A weird mixture of grey, black and white hair was sticking out from it. One thin strand of the hair was touching my trophy. The cool thick air whips and slaps against helicopter rotor blades, slicing the quite morning calm into a clamorous chorus of engine wine and rotor clap. In December of 1968, American soldiers were "not" in the jungles of Cambodia (Fluty, 2011). Or so was the collective understanding of American's. However, for 60 elite American Army soldiers, Cambodia was a breeding ground for North Vietnamese objectives throughout the region (Fluty, 2011). On one such occasion, members of the small and secret MACV–SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observation Group [Green Berets]) set out on their warhorses to rendezvous with their Vietnamese counter parts on a mission to rescue an American prisoner of war (Fluty, 2011). He was wounded horribly from an ensuing ambush that would instantly kill half the men with him that morning (Feherty, 2010). The men who were still alive ascended into the jungle to take cover and as Col. Howard came back to his senses, he could not see and his physical mobility was all but gone (Fluty, 2011). Functions Of Human Sensory Biology Sensory Biology Lab 6 Name: Dominic Siaw Biology 132 T.A: Marian Wahl Date Performed: 4/7/15 Date due: 4/14/1 Abstract In this laboratory students will perform various experiments to demonstrate various properties of human sensory biology. Students worked in pairs and performed 5 experiments. These experiments were based on touch receptors, temperature receptors, two point discrimination on the skin, locating distance from the fovea to our blind spot and measuring visual activity. T–test was performed and the results explained that there is no significant difference in how the body adapts to external stimuli. Various parts of the body will be tested to see how the body adapts to external simuli. These external stimui will be a coin touch, temperature and a touch from a two point discrimination. Also the ability to read from afar will be tested using the Snellen examination chart. Experimental Procedure The first experiment was an exercise based on adaptations of touch receptors. One student obtained a coin and a stop watch. The other student was the test subject. The test subject placed his/her palm–down on the desk. The test subject closed their eyes and a coin was placed on the back of the test subject's hand (lower side of right most knuckle) and the stop watch was started. The clock was stopped when the test subject stopped feeling the coin. The time was recorded. The same procedure was repeated but during these times the coin was placed at 4 different locations of the hand. The time for each adaptation was recorded. This test was performed twice for each location and time for each adaptation was recorded. The T–test was then calculated to see if there is a statistically
