There was an experiment done in the 1930s to see what the effects of being raised by the state or
being raised by the foster care system. The experiment showed that children raised by the state in a
foster care system are more likely to not get married and not go to college. The experiment also
showed that being raised by a loving family helps you to "establish close bonds" (Henslin, 60).
Nobody ever cared for him like a mother or a father. During the time that Jack was last paroled and
out of the state penitentiary he should first been placed in a "half way house." It being the first time

The trial of Socrates is well–known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties
together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates
was truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges,
since he sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One of
the accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching
purely physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained by
the doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the field of
scientific explanations. This is pre–Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never taught.
He asks the jury "Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing such
subjects, either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said about
me are equally baseless." (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation by

showed a linear dependence on catalyst concentration and saturation kinetics in both 3,5–di–tert–
butylcatechol concentration and dioxygen pressure. The kinetic parameters have been determined
using Michaelis–Menten approach. A mechanism has been suggested for the oxidation reaction.

and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order" . When these powers are abused and
unnecessary force is used for corrupt purpose outside of their duty it is considered police brutality.

The main function of law–enforcement agencies in Russia is not to protect the public from crime
and corruption, but to shield the bureaucracy, including themselves, from the public" . The Russian
police have been accused of getting paid to carry out jobs that benefit the image of the government.
Both police forces are accused of using unnecessary force to complete corrupt motives. In Russia
those who want to protest the government may have a tough time trying to come out without any

the image of the government and if someone speaks out against the government they are liable to be

Farmland protection has become a contentious political issue in China due to the loss of cultivated
land in rapidly growing urban centers. In response to new information about rates of farmland
conversion, the national government placed a national moratorium on arable land conversion in
1997 and imposed stringent regulations on the encroachment of urban land on agricultural lands in
the Land Management Law of 1998 (Lin and Ho 2005). There has been speculation about the
efficacy of the regulations, which are challenging to enforce. Others have expressed concern that the
regulations could severely distort China's most productive urban land markets (Lichtenberg and
Ding 2009, Ding 2003).
This paper estimates the causal effect of the primary farmland protection regulation on urban land
development across China. I use a satellite–based data set that measures time–varying rates of
agricultural and urban land change before and after the regulatory change in 1998. Satellite data
have played an important role in assessments of farmland loss in China for over a decade, but have
not been used to examine the impact of the regulatory policy. I make use of an important feature of
the regulation's design, the 'no net loss' rule, which provides an arbitrary discontinuity in the
likelihood that the regulation will bind in different provinces. I estimate effects using the province–
