This research paper will look at social norms and behavioural patterns in different
metropolitan environments among various different groups of road users, paying

Data and Methods As mentioned, the research method used for this study was
participant observation. This was further divided into three different segments. Each
of these segments featured its own distinct observation site and involved one hour of
observation per site.
Because this is a comparative study, observation sites needed to have certain
characteristics and were hence chosen on the basis of specific independent and
controlled variables. The independent variable was the density of the larger
surrounding area, while the controlled variables were the type of public space and
the zoning of the immediate area. Taking into account who I was observing, I
chose to narrow my choices to major commercial intersections. This created a
degree of consistency, while also allowing me to observe the greatest diversity of
road users possible (as cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers are all likely to converge at
major commercial intersections). Thus, I had to select three major commercial
intersections, one in a high density area, another in a medium density area, and the
last in a low density area.
The final decisions were made using data maps. First, based on a population density
map of the Lower Mainland constructed using 2011 census data (Smith 2013), I was

It has guided me in so many ways in managing my time, to be more confident for

New Zealand. Learning and teaching mathematics is an important area of focus and

Reading this book, made me realize that life in the 1600 s was far different than
what we know now. People were more vulgar and much more violent than how we
are today. Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, however was very religious and relied on God no
matter what she went through. She struggled with what she had to eat while being
with them in captivity. She also saw the difference in her cultureand their culture.
While reading the book, I noticed Mrs. Rowlandson took her bible with her
everywhere and that she made references to bible verses to help her build strength.
Mary Rowlandson relied on her faith even while she was being captured by the
Indians/ Native Americans and treated as a possession. There was a major cultural
difference between Rowlandson and the Indians. Rowlandson was not as
accepting of their culture due to the fact that they did not share the same Puritan
values as her. She always kept God with her even when she lost her daughter and
when she was separated from her husband. Although she kept her faith in God, she
still questioned why she was captured, and why she wasn t killed along with her
family. She begged God every day for mercy and strength to continue travel each
day. When the Indians came and burned down her town and killed people she
knew, and forced their way into homes, Rowlandson continued to ask God for
answers on what to do. Being that Rowlandson was a profound puritan, witnessing
the way the Indians sang and danced made her compare them to creatures of hell.
Oh, the roaring, and the singing, and dancing, and yelling of those black creatures

that the Indians were not believers of God which impacted the way they treated her

Maurice Ravel was one of the greatest composers of the impressionist period, and
through his experiences as a musician and composer he managed to leave us with
over 80 masterful works which are still performed today. (Mawer, xi) Though not
fully understood at the time, Ravel was acknowledged as France s greatest living
composer from the time of Claude Debussy s death to his own, and he continues to be
just as respected as Debussy. His precise orchestration remains expressive and lush
through means of written rubato and a vast array of instruments rarely paired
together in a symphonic setting. Taking great influence from his teachers but still
remaining independent, Ravel turned classical music on its head and constantly
pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved by performers in the 20th century.
