Comparison Of Communism In Korea And Vietnam
Throughout the history of the world, many beliefs have impacted the world. Beliefs are ideologies
for people to follow and in our society/region in their economic, social, political decisions were all
influenced by belief systems. Communism in the Soviet Union/Russia and Christianity in Europe
during the Middle Ages are two good examples of how a belief system affects society. The belief of
Communism would lead to eventual division of nation and Christianity to the Protestant
Reformation. The belief of Communism was found by Karl Marx stated in "The Communist
Manifesto", its ideas was to have an equal society where all property is publicly owned and gain
profit equally including womens. Therefore, the leader/government are allowed to control ... Show

King Louis Xiv Vietnam Analysis
Here we have an exchange of letters between King Louis XIV of France and the King of Tonkin of
Vietnam. They are expressing to each other their devotion to each of their religious customs. Louis
wants the King of Tonkin to establish his religion (Christianity) in Vietnam. The King of Tonkin,
however, wants his "ancient customs" to remain in place. In the perspective of Louis XIV, he seems
very courteous towards the King of Tonkin. He complements him as a "magnanimous Prince...as
illustrious through his military valor..." and expresses his gratitude to him for the kind treatment of
his Christian subjects sent to Vietnam. He does, however, seem to express an ulterior, self–fulfilling
motive with little regard for the religious custom in Vietnam.

Home Of The Brave Analysis
America's national anthem says that it is the "Land of the free, and the home of the brave" in the
same sentence. However, how can the "land of the free" still have a government that acts tyrannical,
and forces unwilling citizens to serve in the armed forces? Is it that we want to show that we are
"the home of the brave" because if that is true, having people who don't want to fight definitely
won't be good soldiers. The Vietnam war was fought in Vietnam and surrounding countries in the
1960s and 70s. The democratic US backed South Vietnam while China and communist countries
backed North Vietnam. Eventually North Vietnam won and all the US had to show for it was a
rebellion within its borders where it's young male citizens refused to enter the draft and avoided it

According to Ms. Baltay, over the course of the war 50,000 Americans died and three times that
number were injured. Forcing its own people to go fight in a warzone is the opposite of protection,
and it is dangerous. Since people in the United States are given the right by the government to
pursue life, liberty, and happiness, it entitles them to the right not to participate in the draft if it will
prevent them from pursuing these goals. If the government were to set up a draft that would take
people away from their right to life, liberty, and happiness, then the government would be
overstepping its job and would have to throw out the Constitution. The people who avoided the draft
had a perfectly ethical reason do so, because the government had not kept its side of Locke's

Cambodia 's Dominant Textiles Today
Cambodia is a country that has endured an abundance of war and turmoil, however over recent
decades the country has slowly recovered their rich culture and traditions that they lost during the
Vietnam War. The country today, still suffers from the loss they have endured within the structure of
their culture and society. In fact, Cambodia's dominant textiles today are an affect of the lost
traditions that have faded during the Vietnam War. Though warfare has torn a hole into their history
taking valuable traditions away from the country, Cambodia has adapted their way of dress and
textiles slowly to the modern world.
Located in Southeast Asia bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, Cambodia has a tropical warm
climate that is present year round. This accounts for the light daily attire as well as temple attire that
are worn throughout the country. "Buddhism is practiced by 96.4 percent of Cambodians. The vast
majority of these belong to the Theravada school of Buddhism, which is also the official state
religion" (Colgan, A. n.d. The People section, para. 3). The country's predominantly Buddhism
following have a profound impact on the art and textiles that have remained the same throughout the
turmoil of the Vietnam War. "Between 1975 and 1979, under Pol Pot's leadership, the Khmer Rouge
unleashed a reign of terror that killed approximately a quarter of Cambodia's population through
forced labor, starvation, torture, and execution" (Medvedev, 2010, p. 228). In fact with it

Life In North Vietnam Life in North Vietnam, during the Vietnam War, changed drastically after the
Geneva Accords were signed and Vietnam split into two parts. Ho Chi Minh became President of
North Vietnam after he fought and removed French power from Vietnam. During Minh's reign, he
turned Vietnam into a Communist dictatorship and fought the American–controlled South Vietnam.
Religion changed to become a way to fight the dictatorship rather than a way to achieve
enlightenment. Labor Camps were started and rebels were thrown in to work. Life degraded into

In the years the labor camps were in business an estimate of 120,000 deaths were reported. Camp
Mauthausen was located near Linz and was famous for its size. It was claimed to be one of the
largest camps in German– controlled Europe. If opposers were lucky enough they would have been
shot on site if seen rebelling. "Viet Cong death squads assassinated at least 37,000 civilians in North
Vietnam; the real figure was far higher since the data mostly cover 1967–72," ("Viet Cong death").
Communists were just at their peak and did not want anyone or anything disrupting their order.
North Vietnam had to endure the communism and the rules that was attached to it or else unwanted
horrors would be knocking at their doors. Things turned to the worst when the North and South split
and communism took control. The conflict in Vietnam during the 1960's was fueled by many
different issues after the split between North and South. Although the religions in Vietnam coexisted
peacefully since around the first century, religion did play a role in the Vietnam War. The three main

Religious Conflict in Muslim Countries Essay
While the Western world today is mainly interested in radical Islam and its posing a serious
challenge to civil liberties as well as democratic countries all over the world, Muslim countries are
to bipolarities within themselves. One of the most expressed forms of the conflict in many Muslim
countries today takes place between secular and Islamic discourse. While the secular wing of the

The Invasion Of The Vietnam War
Firstly, the invasion of the Vietnam War cannot be justified when the US 's ally in the war is a
corrupt democracy. When the Vietnam War began the United States' puppet state was Ngo Dinh
Diem's South Vietnam. Diem was a dictator or the President supposedly of South Vietnam that took
power for himself there, and threw all of his civil and political opponents into violent concentration
camps. The South Vietnamese President had also oppressed those of different religions specifically
Buddhism ("NGO DINH DIEM, FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM."). Eventually, the
Viet Cong who would rather support a communist regime formed due to the oppressive nature of
Diem's ruthless democracy. By the time North Vietnam sought to unify the country Diem had
opposition from all perspectives, including his most trusted peers. Even with his mockery of a
democracy, the United States believed it had to support his efforts in the defense of democracy in
South Vietnam. The United States did want a change of power, but were willing to continue with
Diem if deemed necessary to win. Benjamin Frankel states this by stating "advised the State
Department that the United States should begin to search for an alternative to Diem. On 1 November
1963 South Vietnamese military officers overthrew Diem, and he and his brother were shot to death"
("Vietnam War: Was U.S. Military Intervention in Vietnam Justified?"). Democracy is about
everyone having fair trials, civil liberties, and the right to free speech.

Daoism In Vietnam
It is believed by many scholars that Daoism (Đạo giáo Việt Nam), along with Confucianism (Nho
giáo), was first introduced to Vietnam during the first wave of Chinese domination, which took
place in 111 BCE when the Han Dynasty of China began to expand its empire southward to include
northern Vietnam and a sizable portion of what are now the Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces in
China. This was known as the Northern Domination, or Bắc thuộc. During this time, the Chinese
language, culture, art, music, architecture, educational and political institutions, and philosophy and
religion, such as Confucianism and Daoism, into Vietnam. In regard to Buddhism (đạo Phật or Phật
giáo), it has been debated on whether Buddhism (mainly the Mahayana tradition) was first
introduced to Vietnam via Indian or Chinese delegations as early as the 3rd or 2nd century; which
has been considered to be part of the Classical Era. These elements have been absorbed into and
influenced the Vietnamese folk religions, such as Caodaism (Đạo Cao Đài) and Dao Mu (Đạo Mẫu).
Daoism in Vietnam acts like the glue that binds together the elements of the aforementioned three
religions and these elements play a key role in the religion of the Southeast Asian country today.

How Did French Imperialism Affect Vietnam
The colonialism in Vietnam was from the French and it was called as French Indochina. The French
colonialism in Vietnam took place by the late 1880s and lasted for 60 years. Rigault de Genouilly
has been a supporter of taking military action towards Vietnam, so he was sent to Vietnam and as a
consequence of that, Tourane city was turned into a military base for France. The countries that were
also colonized by the French colonialism were Cambodia and Laos. The French colonialism was
less organized, more convenient and practical, and more violent than the British colonialism.
Colonizing Vietnam was the most profitable for France.

Hypocrisy: The Vietnam War
The Vietnam conflict was one of the most controversial "wars" in American history. The decision
about taking actions and sending troops brought outrage to many Americans, especially the teenage
population. Both Barry McGuire, a singer, and Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist, were
opposed to the war in Vietnam. These themes were portrayed in McGuire's song, "Eve of
Destruction" and King's speech, "Why I am opposed to the war in Vietnam." These two texts strove
to connect Americans through religion and highlighting the hypocrisy of the civil rights movement
and role of black Americans. However, King and McGuire went about portraying these themes in a
different light, yet while their methods differed, the goal was the same. Both ... Show more content

McGuire's use of violent themes suggests that he feels that silent protests are not effective in
changing the governmental view of Vietnam. He alludes to this lack of violence not only in regards
to Vietnam, but also in the civil rights movement. He says, "And marches alone can't bring
integration," While is could imply a change in the mindset of Americans, the undertones and sound
of the song suggest that he thinks that more force needs to be used in order to get the message
across. While it may not be violent as in fighting, he argues that force tends to lead to more change.
King, on the other hand, takes a very pacifistic approach to fighting the injustices. He strives to not
only change how Americans view Vietnam, but he wants to do this in a way that doesn't mirror the
war, with peaceful protest. He also challenges the American view that war is automatically the
answer and that being engrained in our society. He states in his speech, "Be non–violent... that
press!" (Pg.4/10). He alludes to the fact that Americans only see in black and white. This person is
Vietnamese so we should kill them. However, King suggests that once individuality is brought to the
issue is it immediately shot down in America. King wants non–violence to be the social norm and
instead look at our personal view

Self Imolation
Introduction The self–immolation of Thích Quảng Đức during the Vietnam War is one of the most
recognized images from the 20th century. The photo of the burning monk has been circulated
throughout thousands of newspapers, and president John F. Kennedy remarked that "no news picture
in history has generated so much emotion around the world as that one." Former U.S. Senator Frank
Church, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the press that "such grisly
scenes have not been witnessed since the Christian martyrs marched hand in hand into the Roman
arenas." This quote in particular is reflective of the American perception on self–immolation and
other types of self–sacrifice, where Christian motifs are used for comparison for how we perceive
Quảng Đức's act. The American perspective is inherently molded by Christian ideals, and if we
compare that to Vietnam's perspective, we find that the two viewpoints are more different that most
assume. This project will demonstrate American and Vietnamese perspectives during the Vietnam
War on the subject of self–immolation. The self–immolation of Thích Quảng Đức is one of the most
recognizable images of the war, and it causes a lot of discussion on what the true value of the
Vietnam War was for the parties involved. If we can't answer why the media from the countries
involved presented the self–sacrifice of Thích Quảng Đức the way they did, then we can't
understand how the viewpoints from a Christian and non–Christian

The Impact of Chinese Culture on Its Asian Neighbors
The impact of Chinese culture on its Asian neighbors
China is today the third largest economy of the globe, with immense prospects for growth. This
position grants the country a vast power within the global arena. Still, aside from its current
economic strength, China is notable at the level of its cultural importance. In this setting, the
Chinese culture is significant not only at its individual level, but also at the level of the influences it
has manifested upon its neighboring countries at political, historical or cultural stances (McKay,
Hill, Buckler, Ebrey and Beck, 2006).
At a general level, the cultural impacts of China on the Asian states have manifested in a positive
manner and they have been linked with the rapid and responsible evolution of the country. This in
turn has materialized in opportunities for the neighboring countries as well. A most important aspect
is revealed at the level of community building, as the community is perceived as a pivotal social
structure in China. This perception has led to the responsible growth and development of
communities in other Asian states.
In the future, the influence of China is expected to further increase, with caution needing to be
exercised at the level of the reaction of the Chinese population towards the intensifying relationships
between their country and its neighbors (Xiaoming, 2006).
A more specific impact of the Chinese culture is revealed at the level of Japan, which has adopted
several traits and has

The Rise Of Caodaism In Vietnam
In the spiritual life of Vietnamese, religions such as Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism
and Islam are the mainstream. Each religion has similarities with the ethnic believes in Vietnam.
Nevertheless, one religion emerged and rose in an unimaginable rate during the twentieth century ––
Caodaism. It soon became Vietnam's third largest religion after Buddhism and Roman Catholicism.
The rapid rise of Caodaism is strongly related to its susceptible fundamental doctrines, combination
of various social groups, and strong historical context. From the French colonization and empiricism
of Japan, to the establishment of Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Caodaism played an important
political role thoroughly, and these events also deeply influenced the fate fo Caodaism.
Brief Introduction of Caodaism: Caodaoism was born in the province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam in 1026,
after its founder Ngô Văn Chiêu, a district head of the French administration in Cochinchina,
received a vision of the Divine Eye. Divine Eye was perceived as the focus for worship on all Cao

An Exchange Of Royal Correspondence Analysis
An Exchange of Royal Correspondence is about two rulers of the different countries, who were
exchanging letters. In this particular piece of historic event the King Louis XIV of France was
asking for permission of the King of Tokin so France could spread their Christianity in Vietnam. But
the King of Tokin denied the permission because in Vietnam there existed an ancient religion. The
historian needs to ask questions about these documents to make sure that they are not biased or

How Did Ngo Dinh Diem Left Vietnam
Ngo Dinh Diem (1901–1963) was a staunchly against confidant Vietnamese statesman who declined
to band together with Ho Chi Minh after the Franco–Vietnamese War. With the support of the
United States government, Diem drove South Vietnam from 1954 to 1963, when he was slaughtered
close–by his kin in a military oust.
Ngo Dinh Diem was imagined in Vietnam in 1901. His ancestors had been changed over to
Christianity by Catholic evangelists in the 17th Century. Diem, as past times of his family, was
taught in French Catholic schools. After he graduated he was arranged as an executive for the
French overwhelming habitations in Vietnam. At a years of age quarter century transformed into an

The French battled against this stating that Diem was "insufficient and also berserk". Regardless,
over the long haul it was picked that Diem showed the most obvious opportunity to keep South
Vietnam from falling under the control of communism.
Once in power, the Americans discovered that Diem was unwilling to be a "puppet" ruler. He
persistently rejects their suggestion and settled on decisions that wonder the South Vietnamese
people. A couple tries were made to topple Diem yet regardless of the way that the Americans were
sad with his execution as president, they felt they had no genuine alternative but to support him.
In October, 1955, the South Vietnamese people were asked for that pick between Bo Dai, the past
Emperor of Vietnam, and Diem for the activity of the country. Colonel Edward Lansdale suggested
that Diem should give two vote papers, red for Diem and green for Bao Dai. Lansdale assumed that
the Vietnamese conviction that red implied favorable circumstances whilst green demonstrated

The Political And Social Consequences Of Vietnam 's...
Vietnam 's Communist Party is now facing the political and social consequences of its decision to
integrate the country with global capitalism. The Communist Party has been enforcing a campaign
against what it considers "social evils" like prostitution and there is a strict new law to stop the
exploitive adoption of Vietnamese babies by wealthy foreigners. Vietnam formally joined the World
Trade Organization in 2007 and now has to change many of its laws and practices to comply with
WTO rules. Vietnam's official name is The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and because of its
socialist ideology, the government doesn't recognize the private ownership of land. Although the

Because of the boom in the economy caused by the success of Doi Moi allowing international
investment, the Communist Party itself has been required to support the return of tens of thousands
of Vietnamese who had fled Vietnam during the Vietnam War era but who now want to return home
as business owners and entrepreneurs. The government created an assistance committee called Viet
Khieu for these returnees. Although the Communist Party distrusts the political views, wealth, and
Western customs of these returnees and may see them as a threat, the goal is to create economic
prosperity and their education and experience abroad has brought an economic benefit to the
country.
As part of its modernization plans, the Communist Party is improving Vietnam's infrastructure
enormously with the construction of modern freeways. It has planned a high–speed rail system
between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to connect North to South. Vietnam is beginning the
construction of a Vietnam–China road that will reduce the travel time to China to one day, compared
to the previous trip of two or three days. Not only will transportation along this road increase the
supply of Vietnam's exports to China, China's exports will have a faster, easier route into the global
market through Vietnam's seaports than through the current shipping ports in China.

economy and most of its citizens are

The Civil Rights Of The Vietnam War
In 1967, 64 percent of all eligible African–Americans were drafted versus only 31 percent of eligible
whites (Black 2009). This fact testifies to only a small portion of why nearly all African–Americans
found themselves protesting against the Vietnam War. The lack of civil rights in the U.S deterred
many blacks from supporting Vietnam, a conflict aimed at liberating the rights of another people.
African Americans were frustrated with a country who fought for other citizens and saw no purpose
in fighting for a peoples' freedom but their own. Although African–Americans were specifically
discriminated against both in Vietnam and America, they were not alone in their anti–war position.
The majority of the American public opposed the Vietnam War. As the war dragged on, people
found no reason to fight in Vietnam and believed that the United States should prioritize their own
citizens first. Many public figures, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., and Muhammad Ali, held similar
claims. Their opinions aligned with the public's concern and suggested that the U.S withdraw troops
and focus resources on the civil rights issues at home. These public figures fought for a specific
minority, but, in light of the entire American population, the majority of people opposed the war.
The vast majority of not only the American public but also the world protested against the Vietnam
War. One specific Japanese newspaper, the Beheiren, shared many of the same goals as the GI

Cultural Differences Between Australia And Vietnam
Has anyone wondered how unusual our community is? Rosalind Barrett once said that our society is
not only diverse but constantly changing. All countries of the world are extremely different in
numerous ways and everyone has a unique way of living and live non–identical lives unlike others.
The difference between Australia and Vietnam is amazing because of the major dissimilarity in
language, religion and food. These points are crucial for a person from Vietnam to live in Australia.
Multiple individuals all over the world communicate using a variety of languages. Some people
believe that in the future there will only be a few ways to speak to each other. A lot of nations are
beginning to quickly age, such as Vietnam being one of the fastest aging countries on Earth with ten
percent of the population over sixty five and young individuals are forgetting the Vietnamese
speech. The English vocabulary is soaring at high speeds for the most used way of to speak on our
Earth. At the same rate as the Vietnamese verbalisation other verbal expressions are quickly
becoming extinct, which make the mixture of our languages decrease and change the way we talk in

Business Culture: Meetings:
Like any other expected requirement when it comes to conducting a business meeting, it is always
important for an individual to be on time. Business meetings may not always start on time, however,
in Vietnam it is still expected that everyone arrive on time (as it is in America). In Vietnam seniority
is very important. Therefore, when in a business meeting, one should always postpone their
conversation/ interaction with the person in charge. Also, patience plays a big role during business
meetings. What American's may think are awkward moments of silence are totally normal and
expected in Vietnam. It is very important that one does not interrupt the moments of silence.
Interruptions are not limited to just speaking out. Making certain impatient gestures or faces can also
be a type of interruption as well.
Always address a person by their professional title. If they are Dr., Mrs., or Ms., address them as
that followed by their last name. Because business is now being conducted in Vietnam, business
cards should not only be written in English but in Vietnamese as well. A good idea is to have one
side of the business card in English and the other side in Vietnamese.

Contemporary Historical Case Study : Vietnam
Contemporary Historical Case Study: Vietnam
Introduction:
French Indochina has been a rich country since the ancient times with its people originally coming
from a region near China and migrating into the strip of land now called Vietnam. However,
although Vietnam has been very self–sustained and independent since its original foundation, and its
successful defense of its land against larger countries such as China and the Mongol Empire, its
more recent history leading up to modern times begins in the mid 19th century. After defending
itself so well against the Chinese for so long, the Vietnamese were astounded when the French
attempted to invade the country in 1858 and finally captured the country in 1884. However, after
some time, the small southeastern country situated next to China, Laos, Indonesia, and against the
Pacific Ocean, revolted and overthrew the French in 1954. Vietnam then divided itself politically
into two countries, the democratic South, and the communist North. This would eventually lead into
the Vietnam War, where the South was backed by the US, and the North by Russia. The North
would eventually win the war, and Vietnam has become reunified. And although Vietnam is still
now ruled by the top members of the North 's government and is an autocracy, it has been trying to
increase its relationship with the United States aside from its political and economic ties with China.

Vietnam gain more opportunities to cooperate with the first rate company and to reform the inside

Do you agree with the view that The Beatles "changed the world in the sixties"?
It's clear from any angle that The Beatles had an incredible impact on the world in the sixties, but I
think it's evident stating they "changed the world" is going too far, and in actual fact they merely
reflected a changing world. Source 18 mentions the view that "The Beatles changed the world in the
sixties", and it references to some of the contemporary debates from the decade, which the four–man
band had an influence on: "legalization of drugs, the war in Vietnam" and "traditional and alternate
religions". Ian Inglis also declares them as one of the "twentieth century's more significant

tobacco and alcohol were the only widespread drugs. Although their plea didn't work, the
advertisement still created higher awareness of the hallucinogenic drug, which encouraged more
people to try or use it. In 2004, Paul McCartney admitted they used drugs as an influence to most of
their music – including "Got to Get You in my Life" which was about cannabis and confessed the
infamous suspicion that "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was about LSD. By the late sixties the
band had managed to change how the youth spent their time – the younger generations now started
to hang out in private open areas, listening to their psychedelic rock, growing their hair long,
dressing in colourful clothes and taking mind–altering drugs – the hippie era had begun.
Although, it seems to me, it's more evident that the Beatles didn't "change the world in the sixties",
but in fact they merely reflected a changing world – this opinion is supported by both source 17 and
18. It's stated by Allan Kozinn in source 17 that "although they seemed to be the leaders of the new
youth culture, they were by no means its architects" which is also supported in source 18 by the
inclusion of the words "innovators" and "spokesperson" – these words infer that the four men were
imitating original views and opinions. Source 16 also agrees with this opinion to an extent – Lennon

The United States Of America
The United States of America is one of the 3rd largest countries in the world, with a population of a
little over 300 million and still expanding. As the population continues to expand in the United
States, you'll notice numerous immigrants from diverse countries traveling to America and
consuming most of our population today. The favorable factors of why several people from diverse
countries want to reallocate to America is typically for freedom, individuality, education and several
other aspects. Although, America has several beneficial factors, the adjustments can be challenging
for an immigrant. First generation immigrants have to adjust to the culture shock of America and
learn to adapt to our culture and differences. Recently, I interviewed one of my friend's grandmother
who came from Vietnam and migrated to America during her late 30's. She is currently in her mid–
80s and doesn't speak very much English, but she is still coherent and can comprehend things fairly
well. As we spoke about why she relocated to America one term she kept repeating was the word
freedom. The word "freedom" is what America stood for her, an escape to a diverse world that was
not a communist country. She spoke about how she voyaged to America on a boat in the late 1970s.
The boat held at least 40 passengers, including her and her daughter. She went into immense detail
regarding how America would give her daughter a future she never had. She began to portray

Should We Evade The Vietnam War Essay
The men who evaded the draft during the Vietnam war were ethical to do so. The reasons being,
America is widely known for freedom of religion, speech, and so forth, deeming the men that
evaded the war fugitives and not allowing re entry to the United States is extremely over the top,
and the Vietnam war veterans were treated unacceptable afterwards. Although America is often seen
as critical or judgemental in the eyes of many other countries we still remain a mixing pot of

but they probably didn't put themselves in the shoes of someone being forced to go to war. They

accused of killing innocent civilians and were even spit on. People had absolutely no respect.
Besides, they were forced to go against their own will. Men who left the country to avoid it were

In addition to religion, politics were a key part of the 1960s counterculture movement in America.
Notable political events that occurred during the 1960s were the Vietnam War and the Cold War.
These events stirred conflict and a beginning of distrust and a questioning of authority when it came

advancements in art, science, and exploration. Also, the strict religious constructs in the Middle

largest religion in Vietnam. Cao Dai was created to bring harmony to different religions. The term
Cao Dai avoids gender, personality, and any other earthly attributes. Although Cao Dai avoids
earthly attributes, it doesn't seek to create a gray and identical world but, a world more tolerant of

Comparison Of Communism In Korea And Vietnam

  • 1. Comparison Of Communism In Korea And Vietnam Throughout the history of the world, many beliefs have impacted the world. Beliefs are ideologies for people to follow and in our society/region in their economic, social, political decisions were all influenced by belief systems. Communism in the Soviet Union/Russia and Christianity in Europe during the Middle Ages are two good examples of how a belief system affects society. The belief of Communism would lead to eventual division of nation and Christianity to the Protestant Reformation. The belief of Communism was found by Karl Marx stated in "The Communist Manifesto", its ideas was to have an equal society where all property is publicly owned and gain profit equally including womens. • 3. King Louis Xiv Vietnam Analysis Here we have an exchange of letters between King Louis XIV of France and the King of Tonkin of Vietnam. They are expressing to each other their devotion to each of their religious customs. Louis wants the King of Tonkin to establish his religion (Christianity) in Vietnam. The King of Tonkin, however, wants his "ancient customs" to remain in place. In the perspective of Louis XIV, he seems very courteous towards the King of Tonkin. He complements him as a "magnanimous Prince...as illustrious through his military valor..." and expresses his gratitude to him for the kind treatment of his Christian subjects sent to Vietnam. He does, however, seem to express an ulterior, self–fulfilling motive with little regard for the religious custom in Vietnam. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Home Of The Brave Analysis America's national anthem says that it is the "Land of the free, and the home of the brave" in the same sentence. However, how can the "land of the free" still have a government that acts tyrannical, and forces unwilling citizens to serve in the armed forces? Is it that we want to show that we are "the home of the brave" because if that is true, having people who don't want to fight definitely won't be good soldiers. The Vietnam war was fought in Vietnam and surrounding countries in the 1960s and 70s. The democratic US backed South Vietnam while China and communist countries backed North Vietnam. Eventually North Vietnam won and all the US had to show for it was a rebellion within its borders where it's young male citizens refused to enter the draft and avoided it by fleeing to other countries. These anti militarists were perfectly ethical in avoiding the draft, as it violated the key aspects that founded our country and make America great. According to Ms. Baltay, over the course of the war 50,000 Americans died and three times that number were injured. Forcing its own people to go fight in a warzone is the opposite of protection, and it is dangerous. Since people in the United States are given the right by the government to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, it entitles them to the right not to participate in the draft if it will prevent them from pursuing these goals. If the government were to set up a draft that would take people away from their right to life, liberty, and happiness, then the government would be overstepping its job and would have to throw out the Constitution. The people who avoided the draft had a perfectly ethical reason do so, because the government had not kept its side of Locke's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cambodia 's Dominant Textiles Today Cambodia is a country that has endured an abundance of war and turmoil, however over recent decades the country has slowly recovered their rich culture and traditions that they lost during the Vietnam War. The country today, still suffers from the loss they have endured within the structure of their culture and society. In fact, Cambodia's dominant textiles today are an affect of the lost traditions that have faded during the Vietnam War. Though warfare has torn a hole into their history taking valuable traditions away from the country, Cambodia has adapted their way of dress and textiles slowly to the modern world. Located in Southeast Asia bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, Cambodia has a tropical warm climate that is present year round. This accounts for the light daily attire as well as temple attire that are worn throughout the country. "Buddhism is practiced by 96.4 percent of Cambodians. The vast majority of these belong to the Theravada school of Buddhism, which is also the official state religion" (Colgan, A. n.d. The People section, para. 3). The country's predominantly Buddhism following have a profound impact on the art and textiles that have remained the same throughout the turmoil of the Vietnam War. "Between 1975 and 1979, under Pol Pot's leadership, the Khmer Rouge unleashed a reign of terror that killed approximately a quarter of Cambodia's population through forced labor, starvation, torture, and execution" (Medvedev, 2010, p. 228). Life in North Vietnam Chris Button Dallan King Danielle Ramirez Zach Schuller Ms. Gladden English 7–8 10 April 2014 Life In North Vietnam Life in North Vietnam, during the Vietnam War, changed drastically after the Geneva Accords were signed and Vietnam split into two parts. Ho Chi Minh became President of North Vietnam after he fought and removed French power from Vietnam. During Minh's reign, he turned Vietnam into a Communist dictatorship and fought the American–controlled South Vietnam. Religion changed to become a way to fight the dictatorship rather than a way to achieve enlightenment. Labor Camps were started and rebels were thrown in to work. Life degraded into slums and has not been much better since Vietnam has been getting aid from Russia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the years the labor camps were in business an estimate of 120,000 deaths were reported. Camp Mauthausen was located near Linz and was famous for its size. It was claimed to be one of the largest camps in German– controlled Europe. If opposers were lucky enough they would have been shot on site if seen rebelling. "Viet Cong death squads assassinated at least 37,000 civilians in North Vietnam; the real figure was far higher since the data mostly cover 1967–72," ("Viet Cong death"). Communists were just at their peak and did not want anyone or anything disrupting their order. North Vietnam had to endure the communism and the rules that was attached to it or else unwanted horrors would be knocking at their doors. Things turned to the worst when the North and South split and communism took control. The conflict in Vietnam during the 1960's was fueled by many different issues after the split between North and South. Although the religions in Vietnam coexisted peacefully since around the first century, religion did play a role in the Vietnam War. The three main religions of Vietnam are Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, with the exception of Catholicism, which was introduced by the South Vietnamese regime. According to the Naval History and Heritage Command, "the Vietnamese people did have the freedom to study a selection of faiths during the Vietnam War era, however, they were not free to express their ... One of the most expressed forms of the conflict in many Muslim countries today takes place between secular and Islamic discourse. • 13. The Invasion Of The Vietnam War Firstly, the invasion of the Vietnam War cannot be justified when the US 's ally in the war is a corrupt democracy. When the Vietnam War began the United States' puppet state was Ngo Dinh Diem's South Vietnam. Diem was a dictator or the President supposedly of South Vietnam that took power for himself there, and threw all of his civil and political opponents into violent concentration camps. The South Vietnamese President had also oppressed those of different religions specifically Buddhism ("NGO DINH DIEM, FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM."). Eventually, the Viet Cong who would rather support a communist regime formed due to the oppressive nature of Diem's ruthless democracy. By the time North Vietnam sought to unify the country Diem had opposition from all perspectives, including his most trusted peers. Even with his mockery of a democracy, the United States believed it had to support his efforts in the defense of democracy in South Vietnam. The United States did want a change of power, but were willing to continue with Diem if deemed necessary to win. Benjamin Frankel states this by stating "advised the State Department that the United States should begin to search for an alternative to Diem. On 1 November 1963 South Vietnamese military officers overthrew Diem, and he and his brother were shot to death" ("Vietnam War: Was U.S. Military Intervention in Vietnam Justified?"). Daoism In Vietnam It is believed by many scholars that Daoism (Đạo giáo Việt Nam), along with Confucianism (Nho giáo), was first introduced to Vietnam during the first wave of Chinese domination, which took place in 111 BCE when the Han Dynasty of China began to expand its empire southward to include northern Vietnam and a sizable portion of what are now the Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces in China. This was known as the Northern Domination, or Bắc thuộc. During this time, the Chinese language, culture, art, music, architecture, educational and political institutions, and philosophy and religion, such as Confucianism and Daoism, into Vietnam. In regard to Buddhism (đạo Phật or Phật giáo), it has been debated on whether Buddhism (mainly the Mahayana tradition) was first introduced to Vietnam via Indian or Chinese delegations as early as the 3rd or 2nd century; which has been considered to be part of the Classical Era. These elements have been absorbed into and influenced the Vietnamese folk religions, such as Caodaism (Đạo Cao Đài) and Dao Mu (Đạo Mẫu). • 23. Hypocrisy: The Vietnam War The Vietnam conflict was one of the most controversial "wars" in American history. The decision about taking actions and sending troops brought outrage to many Americans, especially the teenage population. Both Barry McGuire, a singer, and Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist, were opposed to the war in Vietnam. These themes were portrayed in McGuire's song, "Eve of Destruction" and King's speech, "Why I am opposed to the war in Vietnam." McGuire's use of violent themes suggests that he feels that silent protests are not effective in changing the governmental view of Vietnam. He alludes to this lack of violence not only in regards to Vietnam, but also in the civil rights movement. He says, "And marches alone can't bring integration," While is could imply a change in the mindset of Americans, the undertones and sound of the song suggest that he thinks that more force needs to be used in order to get the message across. While it may not be violent as in fighting, he argues that force tends to lead to more change. King, on the other hand, takes a very pacifistic approach to fighting the injustices. He strives to not only change how Americans view Vietnam, but he wants to do this in a way that doesn't mirror the war, with peaceful protest. He also challenges the American view that war is automatically the answer and that being engrained in our society. He states in his speech, "Be non–violent... that press!" (Pg.4/10). He alludes to the fact that Americans only see in black and white. This person is Vietnamese so we should kill them. • 29. Self Imolation Introduction The self–immolation of Thích Quảng Đức during the Vietnam War is one of the most recognized images from the 20th century. The photo of the burning monk has been circulated throughout thousands of newspapers, and president John F. Kennedy remarked that "no news picture in history has generated so much emotion around the world as that one." Former U.S. Senator Frank Church, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the press that "such grisly scenes have not been witnessed since the Christian martyrs marched hand in hand into the Roman arenas." This quote in particular is reflective of the American perception on self–immolation and other types of self–sacrifice, where Christian motifs are used for comparison for how we perceive Quảng Đức's act. The American perspective is inherently molded by Christian ideals, and if we compare that to Vietnam's perspective, we find that the two viewpoints are more different that most assume. This project will demonstrate American and Vietnamese perspectives during the Vietnam War on the subject of self–immolation. The self–immolation of Thích Quảng Đức is one of the most recognizable images of the war, and it causes a lot of discussion on what the true value of the Vietnam War was for the parties involved. The Impact of Chinese Culture on Its Asian Neighbors The impact of Chinese culture on its Asian neighbors China is today the third largest economy of the globe, with immense prospects for growth. This position grants the country a vast power within the global arena. Still, aside from its current economic strength, China is notable at the level of its cultural importance. In this setting, the Chinese culture is significant not only at its individual level, but also at the level of the influences it has manifested upon its neighboring countries at political, historical or cultural stances (McKay, Hill, Buckler, Ebrey and Beck, 2006). At a general level, the cultural impacts of China on the Asian states have manifested in a positive manner and they have been linked with the rapid and responsible evolution of the country. This in turn has materialized in opportunities for the neighboring countries as well. A most important aspect is revealed at the level of community building, as the community is perceived as a pivotal social structure in China. This perception has led to the responsible growth and development of communities in other Asian states. In the future, the influence of China is expected to further increase, with caution needing to be exercised at the level of the reaction of the Chinese population towards the intensifying relationships between their country and its neighbors (Xiaoming, 2006). Each religion has similarities with the ethnic believes in Vietnam. Nevertheless, one religion emerged and rose in an unimaginable rate during the twentieth century –– Caodaism. It soon became Vietnam's third largest religion after Buddhism and Roman Catholicism. Brief Introduction of Caodaism: Caodaoism was born in the province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam in 1026, after its founder Ngô Văn Chiêu, a district head of the French administration in Cochinchina, received a vision of the Divine Eye. • 52. Contemporary Historical Case Study : Vietnam Contemporary Historical Case Study: Vietnam Introduction: French Indochina has been a rich country since the ancient times with its people originally coming from a region near China and migrating into the strip of land now called Vietnam. However, although Vietnam has been very self–sustained and independent since its original foundation, and its successful defense of its land against larger countries such as China and the Mongol Empire, its more recent history leading up to modern times begins in the mid 19th century. After defending itself so well against the Chinese for so long, the Vietnamese were astounded when the French attempted to invade the country in 1858 and finally captured the country in 1884. However, after some time, the small southeastern country situated next to China, Laos, Indonesia, and against the Pacific Ocean, revolted and overthrew the French in 1954. Vietnam then divided itself politically into two countries, the democratic South, and the communist North. This would eventually lead into the Vietnam War, where the South was backed by the US, and the North by Russia. The North would eventually win the war, and Vietnam has become reunified. And although Vietnam is still now ruled by the top members of the North 's government and is an autocracy, it has been trying to increase its relationship with the United States aside from its political and economic ties with China. She is currently in her mid– 80s and doesn't speak very much English, but she is still coherent and can comprehend things fairly well. As we spoke about why she relocated to America one term she kept repeating was the word freedom. The word "freedom" is what America stood for her, an escape to a diverse world that was not a communist country. She spoke about how she voyaged to America on a boat in the late 1970s. The boat held at least 40 passengers, including her and her daughter. She went into immense detail regarding how America would give her daughter a future she never had. She began to portray incidents on the boat, the mere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Should We Evade The Vietnam War Essay The men who evaded the draft during the Vietnam war were ethical to do so. The reasons being, America is widely known for freedom of religion, speech, and so forth, deeming the men that evaded the war fugitives and not allowing re entry to the United States is extremely over the top, and the Vietnam war veterans were treated unacceptable afterwards. Although America is often seen as critical or judgemental in the eyes of many other countries we still remain a mixing pot of different religions and morals. So forcefully drafting men between the ages of 18 to 26 no matter what religion they are and not taking morals into consideration is completely unethical and un American for that matter. It goes against our freedom which we've ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe they thought no one was going to willingly volunteer to go to war which was probably right but they probably didn't put themselves in the shoes of someone being forced to go to war. They most likely didn't foresee the consequences of the actions as well. Fleeing was inevitable so it was made illegal which wasn't right. The way Vietnam war veterans were treated afterwards was completely unacceptable. Even today veterans get treated alarmingly awful. If you were injured you were treated like a freak and an outcast. They constantly got called names such as baby killers, were accused of killing innocent civilians and were even spit on. People had absolutely no respect. Besides, they were forced to go against their own will. Men who left the country to avoid it were made fun of and called cowards. So all in all there was no winning in this situation. In conclusion it was completely unethical to send those men to fight in Vietnam because it was un American and unethical seeing as there was no choice or freedom, declaring them fugitives is over the top and extremely harsh and they were treated so horrifically regardless of whether they fought or ...
