1. EVALUATION TASK 4
HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
'BAD PICK' EVALUATION LIAM FREEMAN
2. WEBSITES AND ONLINE
APPLICATIONS
The websites that we used for our research and planning, production,
post-production and distribution were:
Epidemic sound: This was a music site that has royalty free music that we
can use for our trailer, the music would also display what kind of music our
characters liked playing.
dafont: This is a free font sight where we found the font we were going to
use on our poster, trailer and magazine cover and also where we got our
steel tongs font for the poster as well.
These sites were helpful during our pitch presentation and during the
production of our trailer, poster and magazine cover, on dafont, there is a
key that comes with the steel tongs which shows us what key does what, it
can be seen at the bottom of the poster.
3. SOFTWARE (FINAL CUT)
The software I used for project were Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I helped
with the production and editing of 'Bad Pick', during one scene where 'Beth' was walking into the
building, I had to follow her into the building while recording, the end result had some camera
shake, but I learnt how to get rid of the shake in Final Cut, the rest of the time was cutting,
editing clips together while also keeping continuity, then the music was imported and it had to
be edited so it fitted the trailer I.e. when the amp in the trailer is being turned up, so does the
song so it links to the trailer. The images shows the production of the trailer, the top slide shows
the music being placed and the middle shows the placement of the black slides for the jump cut
into text which was inspired from 'The perks of being a wallflower'.
4. SOFTWARE (PHOTOSHOP)
Photoshop was another software was Photoshop, the plan was to do all the manipulation
and editing in Photoshop and finalize it in Illustrator, I was in charge of the poster so mi had
to prepare the image I was using so I had to get rid of the background by deleting it using
the magic wand tool and magic eraser tool I then had to remove the exposure of light the
character had in their hair by using the 'refine edges' tool which allowed me to remove the
light from the hair so they look more in place, and after many versions we took inspiration
from the poster for 'the beat beneath my feet' which used the 'rip' effect that can be seen in
the images, by looking up a tutorial I was able to create the rip effect for our poster, I made
the hole in the amp which gave way for the 'coming soon' text to take place since it interacts
with the poster and not just placed on top, the rip effect was used using two layers, one
white and one darker and then overlapping them and shrinking one so both colors can be
seen but it's in a way that looks like it's ripped which can be seen in the images, I also made
it look like the characters are interacting with the poster as well by allowing Johnathan's
guitar poke out of the ripped edge, there also is another feature on the amp of the poster it
has duct tape with a marker displaying the tagline which links to teen bands.
5. SOFTWARE (ILLUSTRATOR)
Adobe Illustrator was the next piece of software that was used for the production of our
poster and magazine, Illustrator was used to finalize the poster and magazine cover after we
finished the additions an image manipulation in Photoshop, illustrator was the software we
used to add the text on the poster and magazine cover, it was also the software where we
added the billing block on the poster, the magazine cover was made solely in Illustrator since
the cover consisted of an image and a lot of text, the image had to go through Photoshop
and then placed on the cover with all the text, all the images seen was the finalization of the
poster in Illustrator. When I first opened I didn't know what to do but when I learnt more I
was able to do more in Illustrator, because Illustrator was compatible with Photoshop files,
the file still had the layers separated so that editing the image was still flexible and
easy
6. ALL COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES
The only equipment I used during the production of our trailer, poster and
magazine was the track pad for writing on our poster, early into the
production process, we created landscape poster which would have a
score sheet in the background with notes on it to make it look like the
characters were still learning, though the poster was scrapped for a new
poster in still learnt that drawing on a computer is completely different
than a pencil and paper.
Example
7. DIGITAL CAMERA EQUIPMENT (CANON 80D) -
NOT TRIPODS.
The camera we used was a Canon 80D it wasn't the first time I used the camera but it was
one of better quality and suitability for our intentions, the camera was both a camcorder
and ca take photos, the buttons were partially hard to figure out and but the overlay was
the same as the other camera so it wasn't too hard to understand it, everything else was
the same, such as recording, adjusting the brightness and the focal point of the camera.
