EVALUATIONTASK 4
How did you use new media technologies in
the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
During the whole process I used 4 pieces of computer equipment with the operating systems of:
 Apple Mac – Latest macOS (Operating system)
This computer was useful as it was easy to use and offered a variety of different applications that
weren’t available other computers such as, Final Cut, GarageBand, etc. I had experience on a Apple
Mac and some applications that it offered but not much. Small things with the software I had to get
use to compared to my commonly used operating system of windows.
 Desktop Computer – Windows 7
This computer was useful as it used a operating system that I was familiar with and had lots of
experience with. I found it easy to navigate the system and used the computer and its software
with ease.
 Personal Laptop – Windows 10
This was a similar to the desktop computer that was available to me, however my laptop
I found was faster in processing and had a more up to date, and new Operating system
installed. Once again I was familiar with using the computer and its software. This
laptop also had touchscreen so which was useful as it allowed me to find typing faster.
This laptop contributed to my work a lot as it was the computer that I used when I was
working outside of college and when I didn't’t have the Desktop Computer or Apple Mac
available to me.
 Personal Apple’s IPhone 7 – Latest iOS 11.2.2
My phone I used the least, but when using it I found it easy to use as I use it on a daily basis, and
I used it for taking photos and then transferring them to the college computers through lightning
cable connection or emailing it to my own email account and downloading it on the other device.
On all of the Computers and devices I could access the majority of applications that I
used during the research and planning, with exceptions while using the Mac and
IPhone as it offered applications that the others didn’t.
During the whole process from start to finish I used:
■ Internet Explorer / Safari (For apple products exclusively) / Google Chrome
All these were used for accessing the internet where I accessed further online
applications.
The internet browser allowed access to a variety of different online applications and
websites that we used for throughout the whole process. We mostly used websites
like Mahara which is an online porfolio site which enables you to publish a blog and
what we used to record all work, this is the most important and most used online
application that I used as it is where all the research, planning, post production and
Evaluation is stored and presented.
Mahara also allowed me to embed presentations and videos from websites
like Slideshare that used PowerPoint and Prezi for animated slideshows, videos from
YouTube through the share button, and then selecting the embedded code.
YouTube was an important online application as it is what I
Uploaded my video based work onto and then exported it onto my Mahara journal.
Furthermore, OneDrive was used and was an important way of sharing group work
with other members.
Adobe photoshop during the planning and production of
the marketing products. It was used during planning to
make
drafts for posters and magazines. These examples were
made by a member in the group to show what the final
products could look like.
Before I had no experience with Photoshop, although
during planning I created a poster and magazine draft to
practise and build on my skills with Photoshop. We used
Photoshop for cropping and initial layering of images. After
the practice drafts I felt much more confident using
Photoshop. The drafts shown to the right are up to the
points of where Photoshop was used and then Illustrator
was used.
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator I used in tandem with Photoshop, once images had been cropped,
positioned and layered then I moved the work onto Illustrator. This was used both
during the drafts and creation of the final products. Just like Photoshop I had no
experience with Illustrator and at first I found it difficult to use but after practise I
started to understand how to use the application. Here are the remaining steps that I
took to my practise drafts and during the magazine draft where I encountered a
problem.
Magazine
draft Poster
draft
Then Photoshop was used during the production of the poster and magazine. Once again it was
used for cropping and layering of images and then Illustrator was used after those points.
Final Poster
The first step of creating the poster was creating a background image, we decided to have the size of the image in A4 size. Firstly, the
production started off by using a photo taken of our antagonist and continued to darken the overall image and make the eyes look
completely black to create a creepy aspect to the character. Also work was done on the image to shade the image slightly to
strengthen the shadow on the left of the face.
Here is show the steps that included using Illustrator for the Magazine cover and poster.
Final Poster
Then it moved on to creating titles on the poster. Like the magazine this was done
in a separate tab and then transferred over. For the title we decided to use
Luminari as the font. We used this separate tab and transfer method for other text
like the bill boarding, slogan and key people involved in the film.
This is what it looked like at this point with the title and bill-board implemented into the image.
Here is where we started to put in names at the top of the poster, putting
each name in one by one, deciding to put the colour as white so that it
stood out from the much darker colours of the poster.
Finally we put in the slogan of 'Be good for goodness sage', this was put in a darker red than the title
to emphasise the dark mood of the film and to continue with the colour co-ordination of horror's
Final Magazine Cover
The first thing with the magazine cover was to
establish the shots that I would use. I Chose that my
practise for the poster had a good picture to it and I
decided to use that while altering it with colour,
positioning, etc.
I cropped the image and made it to the size scale for
a portrait rotation. I used photoshop for these parts.
Magazine Cover
Changes were in colour scheme and also
adding in additional text and images
Final Cut Pro
Final Cut was used during the planning for the creation of
the animatic and also used during the production of the
teaser trailer.
We started off by marking some pieces as 'Favourite', these were the ones we liked most and
that we thought were best. After this we put them all on the timeline for the work and then
continued to roughly put everything in the order we wanted. Then we began cropping down
the length of shots to what we desired and to allow the whole thing to fit in the time frame of
teaser trailers. We added transitions between selected shots and lengthened how long the
transition would last to give the effect that we wanted on the audience.
After this we started adding in title points at appropriate time points
within the trailer as shown above. We continued with generally
editing scenes and continued to strengthen the effect that they would
give. Always making sure that the trailer was making sense and
looked effective
Here is shown how we used quick scenes to strengthen the mood that this was a
horror and also to make the trailer more effective.
Finally we added the main title and an end title of a
time of year for when the film was coming out
which we decided would be winter time so that it
matched the theme of having Santa and Christmas
themes in it but also just after Halloween time for a
scary, horror based time of the year.
GarageBand
GarageBand was used
during the production of the
teaser trailer for the backing
track that went along the
visuals.
Camera used
The camera that we used for taking the photos for filming teaser trailer and images for poster and
Magazine cover.
The camera used was a Canon 80.At first we found the camera more complex to use than the ones
from the previous tasks, but after having an introduction into the use of the camera I picked up how to
use it with additional help with personal experience of a Camera. After getting use to the new camera,
I found it straight forward to use and didn't have many issues using it.The camera allowed us to set a
fixed focus through the use of manual focus and choose a exposure lock. In the images below shows
an example of the use of focus lock where the antagonist walks into focus of the camera.
Conclusion
Overall, the use of the computer equipment and software that was available had a
massive role in all stages of the marketing campaign, from research and planning to
Evaluation. I have gained skills on a variety of new applications such as Photoshop and
Illustrator; while strengthening my skills on previously used software like Final Cut Pro
and GarageBand.
I have met problems during the whole process and have used available resources like
the Internet to solve problems, and also search bars inside programs that offers tips
and pointers to issues that a user might have. The most challenging task was learning
how to use Photoshop and Illustrator as I had no past experience with the
applications. However, once I had leant how to use them and created good, final
marketing products, I was very pleased with myself and how my skills with new
technologies had developed and strengthened.

This laptop contributed to my work a lot as it was the computer that I used when I was working outside of college and when I didn't’t have the Desktop Computer or Apple Mac available to me.  Personal Apple’s IPhone 7 – Latest iOS 11.2.2 My phone I used the least, but when using it I found it easy to use as I use it on a daily basis, and I used it for taking photos and then transferring them to the college computers through lightning cable connection or emailing it to my own email account and downloading it on the other device.
  • 3. On all of the Computers and devices I could access the majority of applications that I used during the research and planning, with exceptions while using the Mac and IPhone as it offered applications that the others didn’t. During the whole process from start to finish I used: ■ Internet Explorer / Safari (For apple products exclusively) / Google Chrome All these were used for accessing the internet where I accessed further online applications. The internet browser allowed access to a variety of different online applications and websites that we used for throughout the whole process. We mostly used websites like Mahara which is an online porfolio site which enables you to publish a blog and what we used to record all work, this is the most important and most used online application that I used as it is where all the research, planning, post production and Evaluation is stored and presented. Mahara also allowed me to embed presentations and videos from websites like Slideshare that used PowerPoint and Prezi for animated slideshows, videos from YouTube through the share button, and then selecting the embedded code. YouTube was an important online application as it is what I Uploaded my video based work onto and then exported it onto my Mahara journal. Furthermore, OneDrive was used and was an important way of sharing group work with other members.
  • 4. Adobe photoshop during the planning and production of the marketing products. It was used during planning to make drafts for posters and magazines. These examples were made by a member in the group to show what the final products could look like. Before I had no experience with Photoshop, although during planning I created a poster and magazine draft to practise and build on my skills with Photoshop. We used Photoshop for cropping and initial layering of images. After the practice drafts I felt much more confident using Photoshop. The drafts shown to the right are up to the points of where Photoshop was used and then Illustrator was used.
  • 5. Adobe Illustrator Adobe Illustrator I used in tandem with Photoshop, once images had been cropped, positioned and layered then I moved the work onto Illustrator. This was used both during the drafts and creation of the final products. Just like Photoshop I had no experience with Illustrator and at first I found it difficult to use but after practise I started to understand how to use the application. Here are the remaining steps that I took to my practise drafts and during the magazine draft where I encountered a problem. Magazine draft Poster draft
  • 6. Then Photoshop was used during the production of the poster and magazine. Once again it was used for cropping and layering of images and then Illustrator was used after those points. Final Poster The first step of creating the poster was creating a background image, we decided to have the size of the image in A4 size. Firstly, the production started off by using a photo taken of our antagonist and continued to darken the overall image and make the eyes look completely black to create a creepy aspect to the character. Also work was done on the image to shade the image slightly to strengthen the shadow on the left of the face.
  • 7. Here is show the steps that included using Illustrator for the Magazine cover and poster. Final Poster Then it moved on to creating titles on the poster. Like the magazine this was done in a separate tab and then transferred over. For the title we decided to use Luminari as the font. We used this separate tab and transfer method for other text like the bill boarding, slogan and key people involved in the film. This is what it looked like at this point with the title and bill-board implemented into the image. Here is where we started to put in names at the top of the poster, putting each name in one by one, deciding to put the colour as white so that it stood out from the much darker colours of the poster. Finally we put in the slogan of 'Be good for goodness sage', this was put in a darker red than the title to emphasise the dark mood of the film and to continue with the colour co-ordination of horror's
  • 8. Final Magazine Cover The first thing with the magazine cover was to establish the shots that I would use. I Chose that my practise for the poster had a good picture to it and I decided to use that while altering it with colour, positioning, etc. I cropped the image and made it to the size scale for a portrait rotation. I used photoshop for these parts.
  • 9. Magazine Cover Changes were in colour scheme and also adding in additional text and images
  • 10. Final Cut Pro Final Cut was used during the planning for the creation of the animatic and also used during the production of the teaser trailer. We started off by marking some pieces as 'Favourite', these were the ones we liked most and that we thought were best. After this we put them all on the timeline for the work and then continued to roughly put everything in the order we wanted. Then we began cropping down the length of shots to what we desired and to allow the whole thing to fit in the time frame of teaser trailers. We added transitions between selected shots and lengthened how long the transition would last to give the effect that we wanted on the audience. After this we started adding in title points at appropriate time points within the trailer as shown above. We continued with generally editing scenes and continued to strengthen the effect that they would give. Always making sure that the trailer was making sense and looked effective
  • 11. Here is shown how we used quick scenes to strengthen the mood that this was a horror and also to make the trailer more effective. Finally we added the main title and an end title of a time of year for when the film was coming out which we decided would be winter time so that it matched the theme of having Santa and Christmas themes in it but also just after Halloween time for a scary, horror based time of the year.

  • 13. GarageBand GarageBand was used during the production of the teaser trailer for the backing track that went along the visuals.
  • 14.
  • 15. Camera used The camera that we used for taking the photos for filming teaser trailer and images for poster and Magazine cover. The camera used was a Canon 80.At first we found the camera more complex to use than the ones from the previous tasks, but after having an introduction into the use of the camera I picked up how to use it with additional help with personal experience of a Camera. After getting use to the new camera, I found it straight forward to use and didn't have many issues using it.The camera allowed us to set a fixed focus through the use of manual focus and choose a exposure lock. In the images below shows an example of the use of focus lock where the antagonist walks into focus of the camera.
  • 16. Conclusion Overall, the use of the computer equipment and software that was available had a massive role in all stages of the marketing campaign, from research and planning to Evaluation. I have gained skills on a variety of new applications such as Photoshop and Illustrator; while strengthening my skills on previously used software like Final Cut Pro and GarageBand. I have met problems during the whole process and have used available resources like the Internet to solve problems, and also search bars inside programs that offers tips and pointers to issues that a user might have. The most challenging task was learning how to use Photoshop and Illustrator as I had no past experience with the applications. However, once I had leant how to use them and created good, final marketing products, I was very pleased with myself and how my skills with new technologies had developed and strengthened.
