New York Jets Case Study
To start the 2018 off–season, the New York Jets had one of the biggest cap spaces in the league. It's fair to say that they took advantage, making
many marquee signings. This roster is going to look very different from last year after a revamp of the cornerback group and quarterback room to
name a couple of positions. Let's look at who will make the final 53 man roster. Josh McCown (left) and rookie QB Sam Darnold (right) Quarterback:
Starter: Josh McCown Depth: Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold Cut: N/A After failed 2nd
–round pick Christian Hackenberg was traded to the Raiders
for a 7th–round pick, I don't expect any changes to the QB room in New York. Josh McCown gets the start because of his surprisingly adequate play

Mo Claiborne is a solid 2nd CB but has dealt with injuries for the last couple of years. And Buster Skrine isn't a great player and commits a lot of
penalties, but is formidable for a nickel role. Don't be surprised if 6th round pick out of Tulane, Parry Nickerson takes over Skrine's spot through
the season. He's a very quick, agile corner who had the fastest 40 yard dash time at the combine at 4.32. Out of the players who I think will be cut,
Rashard Robinson has been the biggest disappointment, after trading a 5th round pick for him in the middle of the 2017 season, he had 2 tackles in
6 games and the Jets will be glad to put this behind them. Jeremy Clark and Derrick Jones, who were both picked last year haven't played bad, but
they may become victims of an overcrowded CB

The NFL Fining Players

NFL Fining Players Imagine a person fresh out of college getting fined thousands of dollars. This happens all of the time in the NFL. The bad thing
is they're not even breaking the law. Players are breaking the rules in the NFL and get fined. The reason behind all of this is to keep a fair game
between the franchises. Yet these people make thousands and thousands of dollars anyways. Does fining even make a difference to them anyways?
Some say the NFL fining its players is a good thing. In the NFL there are many things that can cause a fine to a player. According to Jason Plautz
players in the NFL can get fines for simply changing the color of their shoes (Mental Floss). Excessive celebration is a common way to get fined
usually in the endzone. Only certain celebrations that would include fans or messing with the pylons and actions along those lines can result in a
fine to a player. Also making contact with a referee in any way, which can be known in some cases as unsportsmanlike conduct will cause a fine in
the direction of that player. Punching and kicking a player from the opposing team will get a player fined. In some cases tackling the quarterback
after he has thrown the ball is illegal and the NFL will fine the player, and also late hits and cut blocking are illegal. The interesting thing is a player
can avoid a fine, if there is no penalty flag thrown because of their actions. In the NFL there have been fines

On The Rainy River And John Strickland : Draft Dodger '
The Internal Conflict When the Vietnam war took place, many people protested against it as they believed that the war's purpose was illogical and
unreasonable. Many people tried to protest against it in different ways; for example, men who were drafted to the war fled the country – as a form of
protest – in order to dodge the draft. Stories like "On the Rainy River" and "John Strickland: Draft Dodger" show how men reacted when they were
drafted to the Vietnam War, a war which they were opposed to. In the story "On the Rainy River"– the story was written by an author was also named
Tim O'Brien just like the main character in the story – O'Brien was opposed to the war as he believed that the war was unjust and unreasonable and
saw it as unnecessary. He tried to flee the country to dodge the draft but he couldn't bring himself to do it as he felt too guilty and ashamed of his
decision to avoid fighting in the war. However, in the story "John Strickland: Draft Dodger"– the story was written by John Strickland himself –
Strickland, a man who also disagreed with the reason for the war, fled the country as he didn't believe in fighting in a war which had no solid
purpose. From his perspective, fleeing the country to dodge the draft was his way of protesting against the war. Both Strickland and O'Brien didn't
agree or support the war for similar reasons. Yet, only Strickland stuck to his convictions and dodged the draft to show that he was against the war
whereas O'Brien wasn't

Darnell Dockett: A Career In Professional Sports
With preseason over, all 32 teams need to be down to 53 players. It's not an easy time to be a 3rd–string player, a late–round draft pick, or an aging
veteran. The cuts have already started pouring in, and big names were not safe. Among the known names who found themselves unemployed are New
York Giants punter Steve Weatherford, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Da'Quan Bowers, and San Francisco 49ers d
–lineman Darnell
Dockett. Dockett was probably the biggest shock. After never missing a game for the first 10 seasons of his career and earning three Pro Bowl
selections with the Arizona Cardinals, Dockett just hasn't been the same (apparently) since missing last season with a knee injury. Dockett was given a
chance with the 49ers, but

NBA Draft Lottery
The incentive to tank for GMs is compounded by two other factors: geographic restrictions and the maximum contract provision. Between 1976
and 2011, the five teams from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles have been represented in 33% of all NBA Finals, and have won 47% of all
titles . Because teams outside of Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago are at a disadvantage in terms of their ability to attract players, except for
unusual circumstances (like the appeal of playing with a generational talent like LeBron James), they have to resort to hoping for exceptional talent in
the form of early draft picks, whose rights they have the ability to control for 7 years . Additionally, as the current maximum contract rule in the

Scholars like Michael Munger have spoken to exactly how rent seeking destroys value on aggregate, while others like Michael DeBow and Milton
Friedman have spoken to the morality behind rent seeking, and why managers are obligated to do so based on the morality of their role. I propose a
bidding system which places a cap on the amount of league–wide value teams can destroy in the pursuit of a top draft pick. This same spending cap
concept can also be applied to other instances of rent seeking in corporate America, as the government can show more consideration for the effects of
the "free money" they give out in the form of rents like subsidies and grants. All in all, with proper legal restriction and a more societally focused
mindset, the negative effects of rent seeking, while difficult to remove, can at least be

St. Louis, When Everything Changed
KIDNAPPED?! It was a normal afternoon at a festival, in St. Louis, when everything changed.(31) It was a 45 minute drive to the festival, but it was
all worth it. When we got there, my family, we sat down and found out what we were going to do for the day.(31) We were a family on a mission
today.(1) First we went on the merry–go–round and then the ferris wheel. Then we walked around and went to some booths to buy things. After that
we went to my favorite part, apple picking, I loved eating them most of all because they were so fresh and sweet and juicy and perfect!(30) After that
it was about lunchtime and we were all starving. There was so much to chose, I could never pick, never. (29). There was everything from pretzels and...

That's where stupidity started and then I sat down and cried some more. Then after seeing many cars drive by, one stopped and a woman walked
towards me. She was very pretty and seemed nice, she asked me what my name was and if I knew my moms number, which of course I didn't
know. So she told me that she would help me find my mom, but she told me that I had to to get in the car. So I did second step of stupidity, when I

look around some more and as we turned around I heard someone call my name. To my surprise, it was Kylie, grandma, mom, and dad all standing
there! I was ecstatic to see them, it felt like an eternity since I had seen them. As my wise, old friend Lizzie Binnie once said in her paper, "Have you

Causes of the New York City Draft Riots of 1863
The New York City draft riots of 1863 were the cause of a particular feeling among blacks that were recently freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.
Since, at the time, blacks were not considered citizens the lottery that was the draft itself did not include those that were not citizens. Btu since the
blacks were free but not citizens then they were the spark of much hatred that was aroused by certain factors, particularly from the Irish and German
immigrants. The press, fueled part of this hatred of the white community when they published ideas that were biased and led to more recognition on
how the emancipation would be the end of the line for an immigrant making decent pay or wanting to stay home from the war. The Emancipation...

It took no more than twenty minutes for the mob to get in, get what they needed, get out and for the place to burn to the ground., But amidst the
chaos that took over the city and the vast white majority of the people, some where able to look past the race and try to lend a hand to those in need.
An Irish man spoke out for some of the children that had to flee the institution. But the mob was so out of control that they even sent their wrath upon
him for sympathizing for the blacks. But that Irish man wasn't the only white person that infuriated the mob. In this time of the riots white rioters also
attack man black supporters at the time and often killed women married to those men that were black. They attacked white sympathizers such as Ann
Derrickson and Ann Martin, two women who were married to black men; and Mary Burke, a white prostitute who catered to black men. Not only
within the city, but near the shore, there were even greater battles taking place. In March of 1863, white employers hired blacks as longshoremen, but
since the Irish were ignorant at the time they refused to work with the black men and therefore this lead to a battle that was eventually boiled over by
the riots that were taking place. Over two hundred black docks men were attacked and battled with and other white men that

How to Handle the Situation After Missing a Test or an Important Assignment
If you have ever missed a test or failed to turn in a major assignment on time, then you know that the longer you've been gone, the harder it becomes to
work on that late project. What can you do to break the cycle of avoidance and delay?
Realize that your absence weighs heavier on your mind than the other person's. Advisors are not losing sleep over late dissertation proposals and journal
editors aren't agonizing over missing manuscripts. The project is more important to you than anyone else.
Remember, when you do get in touch, the person is unlikely to be angry and punitive. We tend to be much harsher about our own tardiness than we are
about other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If appropriate, ask the person if they'd like to review what you've written so far.
Sidestep going AWOL in the first place. Set up a meeting with your advisor with the plan of having the entire proposal done. If you realize, a few days
before the meeting, that a complete draft won't be possible, ask whether you can turn in an incomplete draft annotated with specific questions you
have about the gaps. If a journal editor asks for an estimated date for the revision, reply that you'll try to return the manuscript within a month unless
there are unforeseen problems. Then, if glitches arise, you can contact the editor with a revised estimate of completion. Give yourself some leeway. If
you tend to run late, you might want to adopt the policy of "don't ask don't tell": many academics I work with volunteer deadlines even when it is
unnecessary to do so. Perhaps you should keep your completion goals to yourself.
Take extra steps to avoid AWOL when your absence will affect others. If you are late with a dissertation chapter or a single
–authored journal article it
usually only hurts you. But when you are late with a group project, going AWOL has consequences for your colleagues. Put special effort into
promptness in these cases. For example, when you are writing a chapter for an edited volume, be sure to keep in touch with the

Irish Immigrants and the New York Draft Riots of 1863
The New York Draft Riots of 1863 In the summer of 1863 New York experienced one of the most violent protests in the American history. The riots
were mainly in reaction to the Union draft for the Civil War, which Abraham Lincoln enacted when volunteers began to run out. The riots lasted for
five days, and the mob consisted of almost 50,000 angry men who opposed to the Civil War, draft andEmancipation Proclamation. This paper will
discuss how the Irish immigrants in New York affected the draft riots of 1863, and the reason behind their participation, exploring specifically the
social, class and racial issues the Irish immigrants faced. The United States saw an influx of Irish immigrants due to the Great Famine (potatoes) in
Ireland. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An article in the Journal of Negro History explains the opposition to the draft perfectly, "it seemed that the act bore especially heavily upon the
poor...and it would force white workers to fight to free the slaves who would soon become rivals for employment." This caused Irish to attack
specifically the military forces, the wealthy, and the blacks in New York. The riots lasted for five days, beginning on July 13 until July 17 when
Lincoln had to send extra police and regiments of soldiers from Pennsylvania to bring the mobs under control. McPherson describes, on the first day
of the riot, "mobs of Irish workers roamed the streets, burned the draft office, sack and burned the homes of prominent Republicans and tried to
unsuccessfully demolish the New York Tribune building." As time went on the riots got worse, by the end of the first day they were attaching anyblack
people on the street, anyone who tried to calm them and even white employers who hired black workers. As the mob moved through the city,
intensifying their actions, they burned down the Colored Orphan Asylum. One account stated that,
"the children numbering 233, were quietly seated in their school rooms... when an infuriated mob, consisting of several thousand men, women and
children armed with clubs, brick bats etc. advanced upon the Institution. The crowd took as much of the bedding,

Book Review of "The Things they Carried" Essay examples
Tim O'Brien's, The Things they Carried is a riveting tale of struggle and sacrifice, self indulgence and self pity, and the intrapersonal battles that
reeked havoc on even the most battle tested soldiers. O'Brien is able to express these ideas through eloquent writing and descriptive language that
makes the reader feel as if he were there. The struggle to avoid cowardice is a prevailing idea in all of O'Brien's stories.
In "On the Rainy River", O'Brien writes of intrapersonal struggle in its most profound form. The gripping torture
of indecision seemed to paralyze Lt. Jimmy Cross in every move he made. Fear is what kept him away from the war, and fear is what made him join
his countrymen in battle. A pacifist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Issues of war ripped through families, cities, and eventually, the entire country. By making the decision to go to the war, some would place the
distinction of bravery on Cross. He, however, felt like a coward. For he had given in to the society around him and their pressures. Instead of
following his heart and staying true to his morals, Cross took the easy way out. By fighting in the war, he avoided the criticism and ridicule which
marred draft dodgers and the lifetime of embarrassment that was sure to follow.      The narrator is torn between
two worlds. In his heart and mind, he knows that the war is wrong and unjust. In his family, town, and nation, however, he was expected to fight.
He must cross a number of hurdles on his way to a life altering decision. It seems the man has gotten beyond the idea of self embarrassment. The
problem for Cross, it seems, is the fact that his decision affects everyone around him. Like any young man in those times, he was scared. Not
scared of death, but scared of life after the war. He knows that is he does not go to the war, his mother, his father, and all his friends will share the
burden of his embarrassment. That is why he must go to the war. In a noble sort of way, Cross saves his family the embarrassment of draft dodging.
In his mind, however, he is a coward, a man who simply put, could not stand up to himself in a time of turmoil. This lack of confidence and self
assurance is something

Bucs's NFL Draft
Well, Bucs fans, the first day of this year's NFL draft is in the books. The Bucs did manage to find Buffalo to trade out of the number 7 spot, which
was the smart thing to do after Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb and Quenton Nelson were all of the board at that time, as expected. So Tampa Bay
ended up trading the 7th overall pick for the 12th pick and another two 2nd rounders, which was a brilliant move. Picking up Vita Vae, Defensive
Tackle out of Washington, might have come as a surprise to many, yet it was a solid pickup. The Chris Baker experiment did not pan out. Now
Licht is looking to seek help alongside Gerald McCoy by using his first rounder on the best Defensive Tackle available this year. Vita Vae is 6'4'' and

Why Is It Assists Me? Developing Better Organizational And...
Working on a research paper is something I admire, because it involves a process that can be useful in various ways, and is applicable to a variety of
situations. What I like most about research papers is the fact that it assists me in developing better organizational and planning skills. Preparing research
papers are always challenging, especially for someone who lacks experience and motivation. A research paper requires time and effort, most students
that I have seen tend to give up during the end of their research paper. This shows the lack of confidence they have and the inexperience to push on.
Conducting a research paper also requires patience; at times you will go through a period of frustration and anxiety. The first step to go about creating
a research paper is to find and choose a topic. Finding a topic that would interest and challenge you at the same time is essential. Your attitude to the
topic may well determine the amount of effort and enthusiasm you put into your research. Before proceeding with the paper, I would recommend each
student to obtain permission from a teacher for the topic they chose. Some topics might be to offensive and hurtful, therefore it is preferable to have the
consent of a teacher first. Proceeding without the permission of the teacher will only bring doubt and uncertainty to your paper. The next step is one
that most people find challenging, and this is to browse the internet and look for information that goes with the topic.

How Does Wilfred Owen Present The Pity Of War?
Consider changes Owen made in Anthem For Doomed Youth. How effective do you find them in presenting the Pity of War?
In this essay I intend to analysis how effective the redrafts of the poem 'Anthem For Doomed Youth' by comparing the first and final drafts. I will go
about this task by comparing and contrasting the parts of the poem, which have been change to the ones, which appeared in the final draft.
The first change that one is confronted with is the change of the title. Owen begins with the word 'dead', which is changed to 'doomed'.
The reason for changing this is because it makes the readers first impressions very deep. The word 'doomed' hits closer to home than the word 'dead'
as doomed creates image sin the readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word fast seems to not be as exploitive enough to help convey the message Owen is attempting to create. This again helps emphasise the 'Pity of
War'.
In line two the reference to guns is changed from 'our' to 'the' this creates a sense of opposition within the poem again linking in with what the nature of
war and creating a sense of 'them' and 'us' this is a very small change but it suggests to the reader that there is no end due to the fact that if the enemy
does not stop their fighting then they cannot either. The overall impact of the line of 'the guns' makes the whole connotation seem much more sinister
and threatening.
In the third line there is a significant change of the phrases Owen uses. It is clear that in the first draft Owen uses personification to an extent that the
reader could say he is trying to hard. He then changes technique to one of alliteration and creates a line of
'riffles rapid fire' which is much harder hitting again keeping in the line with the way that Owen is conveying the 'Pity of War' but he also keeps in
trend with the two structures of the poem. The line 'riffles rapid fire' has a sense of speed to it, which is what the first stanza is all about. 'Stuttering' is
also a significant word, as the action to stutter is to do something again and again just like the gunfire that the soldiers would be subject to.
In line four the main change is the usage of the word 'patter'. This,

Reflective Essay On The Writing Process
The writing process of pre–writing, drafting, revising and publishing has helped me to become proficient in my writing. After applying the writing
process method, I can break down my writing into manageable chunks and focus on delivering quality material. I believe that my writing dramatically
depends on my attitude, motivation and engagement as I have gathered that the writing process takes these components into account by allowing me to
plan my writing and create a publishable, final draft of my work of which I can be satisfied. It addresses my need for a real audience and to take the
time to draft and redraft my work.
I have learned many things about the writing process. I've learned how to recognise my mistakes by revising texts and that sharing with other writers
is rewarding and offers challenges. I've identified the high level of experienced and the quality writings achieved when following each method, the
simplicity of this process and that it takes time and patience to build a well–structured text. I have also learned that it is okay to make errors in a first
draft and as beginner writers, these errors teach us a lot as learners, and it improves our overall future writing abilities. To put it simply, although I have
the tools for creating well–regulated writing content, I acknowledge that it will take considerable practice before each writing method is approached
positively and confidently in my ability to produce writings with exceptional strength and achievement.
These learning attributes have been represented in my creative writing many times. Learning about how simple the writing process makes for
excellent writing allowed me to structure my response without notable difficulty or confusion. It involved taking steps to brainstorm my ideas and
organising key points for the relevant subject addressed within my response. It also allowed me to showcase ideas by the expansion of my writing
efficiently. When I learned how sharing my work with others can improve my writing by their use of proving me with quality feedback, I was able
to adjust my work according to my peers and tutors own critical review of my detailed response. Following the editing of my response, I became aware
of how many errors

Benefits Of Fantasy Football
Fantasy Football is a game that belongs to a billion–dollar industry called fantasy sports wherein players, aptly called team owners, can acquire or draft
an entire team of real–life professional football players. Arranged into leagues that mimic real ones, Fantasy Football participants gain score points
through statistical capabilities or performances of the real world players which are included in the fantasy rosters of the respective owners.
In essence, the way to win in Fantasy Football is to always have high quality players. Since the performance of the real world players can change in
between real world matches, you need to make regular updates or changes to the players in your fantasy roster to keep up with the fantasy games. This

To do this you just go the players' page in your league's website, there you will find the list of players to choose from. Commonly, for each player that
you acquire, a corresponding member of your team should be dropped too.
All in all, after acquiring a new player and dropping an old one, your roster will be changed. But there are other ways of changing players in Football
Fantasy and here they are.
Activating Bench Players To Active Status
One of the most overlooked ways of changing players in an existing lineup is by simply changing the status of a certain player from bench to active
or vice versa. You can access this function online by simply going to your team's webpage. There you will find a menu that permits you to change the
status of each of the players on your roster. Always remember to save the changes before you exit the page.
Trading Players
This can be the easiest way of changing the player composition of a Fantasy Football team. For one, this method of changing players on a team is
allowed even if the season has already started. And more importantly, this method has very few restrictions; so the process and the agreements that lead
to the trading of players is entirely left to the preferences of the two teams that decide to

Isaiah Thomas As A Role Model In College
When someone says "role model" who do you think of? For me personally it would have to be someone who has gotten through struggles and

who is a positive influence on me whether he/ she is on or off the field, court or rink. After what I had just said in the sentence before my role
model would probably be an athlete considering that I love all sports and hope to play in college and maybe even beyond that. My role model and

NHL Draft Game Analysis

Teams must select the perfect combination of skilled players and "enforcers" (Jones, Nadeau & Walsh, 1997). In addition to battling other enforcers,
these players try to limit the success of opposing skill players. The study suggests that the rougher and more violent a player is, the higher his salary,
thus incentivizing violence in the game of hockey. A culture of violence is embraced, rather than discouraged. This violence trickles down from the ice
to the crowds and to younger generations in amateur leagues (Jones, Ferguson & Sunderman, 1996). In an analysis that reflected on the culture of the

game. He added that the NHL "is perhaps the only sport, professional or otherwise, that encourages the use of physical intimidation outside the rules as
a legitimate tactic" (McMurtry, 1974). "The attempt to sell hockey to a wide audience in the U.S. is more easily undertaken because understanding a

New York Coaches Case Study
The New York Jets are actively pursuing free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins. With four quarterbacks expected to go early in the 2018 NFL Draft,
here's why Gang Green should not waste their time signing him.
At the start of the 2018 season, quarterback Kirk Cousins will be 30 years of age. The average career span of an NFL quarterback with at least one Pro
Bowl appearance is 11.7 years as provided by Statista. Cousins would enter his seventh pro season in 2018. Which would give him five more seasons
left in his NFL career, according to the study.
Some of the past great quarterbacks declined in play at the age of 37. As a study by the Boston Globe showed. Players such as Dan Marino, John

The objective the New York Jetswould want if they signed Cousins, would be to win their second Super Bowl championship. The one goal that has

After the career year that former Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had in which he led a team full of high priced veteran players one game away from
making the NFL playoffs back in 2015, things weren't ever the same. The organization recognized that going all out and spending every penny the team

New York City Draft Riots
On July 13, 1863, the streets of New York City were ablaze. People ran rampant without a care of the well being of anyone else; mutilating bodies,
robbing people, and setting buildings on fire. Children were rushed to safety from the bloodthirsty mobs. These were the New York City Draft Riots
of 1863, and colored and rich people weren't safe from the protests that the poor and working class had against the highly controversial draft
(Bernstein 34). These violent riots had to be stopped, and someone had to come up with an idea to put the crowds at rest. The New York CityDraft
Riots of 1863 were stopped when the Union government decided to compromise by stopping the draft and not receiving more troops for the civil war.
The Draft Riots began on July 13 of 1863 and lasted for five days (Amato and Meisel). The civil war was taking place and the Battle of Gettysburg
was ending. Hopes for a Union victory were skyrocketing like never before and the brave soldiers were heading home. Slavery also seemed to only
be a temporary thing, with so many African Americans arriving free into the north (Lighthizer). Many things had gone wrong in the past, including
battles and race issues. The future seemed so bright for nearly everyone in New York City, and something seemed so clear; things were finally getting
better for so many people. Unfortunately for the happy people, it wouldn't remain that way for long.
Racism, fuelled by anger, during that time was at a towering peak. African

Adam Pelech In The NHL Draft
The NHL draft, once beyond the second round, can be likened to shooting fish in a barrel, as the saying goes. There is no clear cut way of

The trade market has started to heat up and we saw last night that the unexpected can happen at the most unexpected times – a midnight deal sending
Ducks Carl Hagelin to Pittsburgh for David Perron. A blockbuster involving Ryan Johanssen and Seth Jones was just completed. There are forwards

of the names being thrown around as we head into the all–star break and February 29 trade deadline.
What Snow ultimately does could depend on the continued development of Pelech, who doesn't seem fazed by the challenge. "I'm just grateful for the

Muhammad Ali And John Strickland: Draft Dodger
War is a popular opinion where the majority of people would fight on the field. To certain individuals they do not tolerate these kinds of wishes for
their country. Two texts that exhibit this difficult time are Muhammad Ali's "The Greatest: My Own Story" and an interview of John Strickland's "John
Strickland: Draft Dodger". Ali cared for respect and the rewards that were ultimately far more important than money or glory as he faced with societal
pressures. Likewise, Strickland observes his surroundings, the environment where he visualizes the midpoint to either join the military to fight in the
war or to live in a different spot to avoid the country's business. Ali and Strickland both face the same conflict, and their perspectives prove to be
similar. When inducted to fight in a war they don't believe in, Ali... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a well known boxer, Ali was a public figure who gained a lot of attention from the media and was pressured by those closest to him to comply
with the draft or else be imprisoned. Despite that, Ali proved himself to be someone who remains true to his convictions. As the induction took place,
draftees including Ali wait for their names to be called in the induction room. Ali accords out his rejection by the call of his name. A military general
gives the order "'. . . you will please step forward and be inducted into the United States Army.' Again I don't move" (Ali 93). In the hands of Ali's
strong stand against the war, he became decisive and holds strong beliefs that constitute his personal protection from induction. Ali signifies denial of
military service which he willingly rejects his position to be in the Army as "Again I don't move." The religious principles of his native country
creates a sense that he supports the appropriate decisions he makes. Unfortunately, Ali may face the possible consequences of being imprisoned or to
live in exile based on his disagreement with the war. As he acknowledges the importance of

Shitty First Drafts By Anne Lammott Analysis
Writing is something we have been used to since childhood. Beginning to write with just a few words and activities to improve our pendmanship.
From easy sentences we all gradually improve our writing, as expected from higher levels of education. However, throughout all this time, many of us
have been writing blind. Only writing what is seen an necessary, oblivious to the true skill and precision it takes to actually write quality work.
Through the use of Anne Lammott's article "Shitty First Drafts" and personal experiences, I will advice you, my fellow freshman, on certain a aspect
of writing that you may not have known prior to joining the college world, as well as offer some life advice.
To begin, in Anne Lammott's article "Shitty First Drafts"... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking from prior experience, I have never been one to openly allow someone else to revise my work or even allow them to view it at all. I am
quite a bit too shy for that. However, Lommet makes some valid points. All throughout my life, I have gotten by on the basics of writing. I was
unaware of the amount of work that takes place in writing. Writing is much more than it seems to be. Simply writing is not suffice in the
understanding of the skillful process. I have come to realization that writing is just as critical as assembling a car. In the same sense, building a car is
about precision and piecing many parts together for the overall outcome of a successful, running automobile. Even then, there may be room for
improvements down the line, but in the meantime it is good to produce the best work possible. Writing can be just as critical because it involves a vast
variety of things as well. There is more to take into account than simply typing or jotting down words. Writing involves grammar, spelling, punctuation,
intended audience, etc... These things of which can become quite confusing, attempting to make them all flow in a smooth,

What Was The Us Declared War On Germany Essay
It was April 1st a day before the US declared war on Germany. It was a regular day at my houses. That day I didn't do much but I had no idea what
soon would happen. It was later that day when I was getting ready for bed. That morning I woke up not knowing what was happening. It was a few
hours later when my dad got home from work and told us that the US had declared war on Germany. He said that his boss had gotten a call from his
friend in Washington. He said that the president had gave a speech to congress. I was surprised the US had stayed neutral for a long time.
It was a couple months later since the US declared war on Germany. The US had sent 200,000 soldiers to Europe. But the US needed more troops they

Racism Vs Football Racism
This season in the NFL has been one of the more politically and racially driven seasons that we 've seen in a very long time.
From President Donald Trump calling NFL players S.O.B 's at a rally in Huntsville, Ala., to Dallas Cowboys ' owner Jerry Jones taking a stance that
if any players "disrespect" the flag or national anthem they won 't play, and finally players speaking out across the league on racial injustice and
oppression.
It truly ignited a conversation in the United States on both sides of the aisle.
But how did we get to this point? To answer that question, we have to look at former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who did not
stand before a preseason game in 2016 and explained why he did it.

How do they feel about the situation? Are they boycotting the league? Or are they continuing to watch, but still believe in the overall message of
Kaepernick 's stance?
If you ask college student Conner Watson, who follows both theNew England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, he is boycotting the league and felt that
something needed to be done.
"After seeing what happened to Colin Kaepernick, I knew I had to do something. I was so moved by what he did, as well as several conversations
with my sister regarding activism, I couldn 't give my viewership to the NFL this season," he said.
Watson also explained what steps he has taken to boycott the league from monetary discussion to just regular football talk with friends.
"I am boycotting by not watching games or highlights, buying merchandise, or even discussing games with my friends. I am also fostering discussions
and political actions around these issues of inequality."
On the other hand, Keaton Nichols, host of The Lounge on WURD Radio and long–time Pittsburgh Steelers fan is not boycotting the league, but still
fully believes in Kaepernick's message.
"I felt like when folks were calling for a boycott of the NFL that they were kind of calling for a boycott of the whole thing. The players, the league itself,
and the owners, which are kind of, their own entities in themselves," Nichols explained.
Within those three groups, who each play a major role in the business of the NFL, Nichols spoke about why he

Composing Terrible First Drafts in Anne Lamott's Shitty...
Anne Lamott begins off by expressing in "Shitty First Drafts" that practically everybody composes terrible first drafts, yet they keep in touch with
them so as to bring about a significant improvement drafts down the line. She even depicts the picture of the splendid writer taking a seat to compose a
tremendous first draft easily, and how this picture is once in a while accurate. She says that the first draft is the "youngster's draft" where you simply
get everything on paper for yourself, knowing you can set aside a few minutes. It's great to do this on the grounds that in those ramblings, something
exceptional could be composed which might be utilized as a part of the following drafts. She depicts how when she was writing sustenance ... Show

Lamott examines how being powerless like a tyke will permit you to spill out everything that your intending to express in your paper. Youngsters have
no channel; they typically say whatever is on their psyche and what they are precisely feeling inside. Towards the closure of the passage Lamott makes
an amazingly brilliant focus, assuming that you weren't meandering on and spilling everything out on the paper, you might never find what you are
positively searching for.
I need to say I truly delighted in this reading since it brought about a significant improvement about my writing. I realize that I have never been
content with the first drafts I have composed, and realizing that writers don't like the first drafts they compose is consoling. Teachers have let me
know that this is correct some time recently, yet for reasons unknown, I didn't generally take what they were stating to heart. I like how Lamott
provides for us great symbolism, depicting the splendid writer at her work area, rapidly releasing a polished draft in one sitting, and how this never
happens. I think this takes a portion of the secret out of exceptional writing: frequently it simply takes a considerable measure of will and time. Maybe
some individuals are characteristically preferred at writing over others, yet the way Lamott portrays writing, it appears that anybody, with enough
exertion can compose well. I think having read this genuinely will profit my writing in light of the fact that

The Draft Of The Vietnam Draft Lottery

The Vietnam Draft Lottery
Starting in the 1960s, the Cold War began to create problems for the United States. The United States adopted the Domino Theory, which stated that if
one country fell to Communism than other countries in the region would follow. American foreign policy was largely centered around this idea and
once Northern and Southern Vietnam fell into conflict, theUnited States became fearful that Communism would spread throughout Asia. The United
States needed to send troops into Vietnam, but many people opposed the war efforts and did not want to fight. This created a collective–action problem
that the government needed to handle. Citizens wanted to have a military that would protect them and fight for their country, however many people
rather free–ride and benefit from the military without directly contributing to it. Through the original draft system, white males from high income
families were less likely to be drafted then men who came from minority backgrounds. This is because they took steps that would qualify themselves
for a deferment and excused them from fighting in the war. The United States Government eventually had to enforce the draft more effectively and
create a fair system. This new system, called the Draft Lottery, aimed to fix these problems. The change in conscription regulations serves as a
collective–action problem in United States History because the original format that citizens were drafted by led the

Back in high school, I was considered one of the best writers in my class. Obviously, high school does not have the same standards as a college
classroom would. After running through the course, I've noticed that my papers required many adjustments that would've been uncalled for last year.
Uncharacteristically for my stubborn personality, I forced myself to accept that I am at fault, rather than the very tempting anchor to praise, and looked
back at my errors to improve. Through this course, I have learned the importance of using peer review and revisions, bettering the transitions between
ideas and paragraphs, staying consistent with my topic, and many other issues that would may my writing better. One of the most pressured lessons I
have learned in the course was the important of revising my papers and getting other people to look over my writing. In high school, most revision was
mostly looking for errors, such as wrong words, punctuation, and grammar. For the majority, students did not critic the content itself. While these are
still problems that I need to fix, the revision process also now includes others analyzing the overall quality and understanding of the work. As the
writer, I have difficulties in finding how others may not understand my flow of ideas since everything makes sense to me. Through peer revision, I
can adjust my papers to better clarity and fix exactly what problems I may have overlooked so that people who are not me, such as the grader, may be

In Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, he emphasizes a chapter on "The Man I Killed", which describes the characteristics of a young
Vietnamese man in which O'Brien may or may not have killed with a grenade. The novel is not chronologically sequenced, which leaves more room
for the reader to engage in a critical thought process that fully bridges the author's mind to their own. In O'Brien's chapter, "The Man I Killed", he
attempts to humanize the enemy in a way that draws little separation between the enemy and himself by relating the enemy's life prior to the war to
his, and illustrates the war through the eyes of the soldiers who fought it. To understand "The Man I Killed", the reader must first enlighten themselves

It wasn't until he went to war and was faced with the enemy that he would realize that the enemy wasn't so different after all. "His jaw was in his
throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was shut, his other eye was a star–shaped hole...," writes O'Brien as he studies the deceased
enemy (118). Throughout the novel, the author shows consistency with repeating stories and lines in a way to present a greater image. He reminds
the reader of details the elaborate his larger view. When he writes of the man he killed, he wants the reader to imagine themselves in his shoes, as
he imagined himself in the enemies'. As he carefully studies the dead man, he imagines how the boy found himself in the war. By relating
American society to the boy's village of My Khe, he bridges similarities connecting the two by a culture that promotes defending one's land and
ways of life. By saying, "he would have been taught that to defend the land was a man's highest duty and highest privilege," he shows there is
minimal difference between how most Americans view the military and the duty of the villagers in My Khe (119). Although he had not known the
exact history of the boy, he attempted to illustrate in his own mind what his life may have been like prior to the invasion. The inability for O'Brien
to walk away from the body as Kiowa continued to pry him away says he was troubled by the similarities. Despite Kiowa saying it could have been

For many months, I've heard of talk about a war to come. I've seen the newspaper's blown out of proportion stories of the events that have been

the streets of how they're going to enlist as soon as America declares war, blinded by their nationalism for this country. They're caught up in the need

First Midwestern was a well–known bank and has a good relationship with Wisconsin for several years. In my opinion the bank did not provide the
correct advice to Wisconsin in structuring and financing the transaction. One of the main reason was, because Wisconsin did not advised their bank

Also as mentioned above they were not fully aware of the side agreement of buying back the finished polished gems by Wisconsin. Also they accepted

bank who bought the drafts from Midwestern are unable to collect the money from the buyers. As Wisconsin denied the side agreement with the
Vietnamese buyers and there was no clause present for that in the drafts, Midwestern cannot claim the money.

Keep Military Draft Essay
Little may you know but the draft has only been used five times. The Civil war, WW1, WW2, Korea, and in Vietnam. I will tell you why we should
keep the draft and why it would be beneficial if we should keep the draft. Keeping the draft would be a good thing because every war we have had a
draft in we have won.
Here is a little history about the draft. September 16, 1940 the Burke– Wadsworth Act as passed by congress by a wide margin from both sides and
the first peacetime draft was imposed in the history of the United States. In order to be drafted people must be between the ages twenty–one and

The more people the US has serving our country the more secure it is. For example, would you rather have one bodyguard or a hundred. A hundred
right, because the US would be safer with more body guards just in case one went down the country would still have ninety–nine more to get hurt
before they got to you. The same with our country it would be safer if USA had more service men and women. Just think if USA did not have the
draft and all of our soldiers died that would be bad but with the draft the USA will not have to worry about running out of troops. And people think
that might be bad thing but the chance of one person being drafted is one in two hundred. Another thing if a person would happen to get drafted their
chances of dying are really slim considering that USA have the biggest military with 1,400,000 troops, 13,892 aircrafts, 8,848 tanks and seventy–two
submarines. That is 633,945 more troops, 10,000 more aircrafts, and seventeen more submarines than the next country with the biggest military which
is Russia who has the second best military in the world. (Bender,

The Pros And Cons Of The Draft Draft
Would leaving a country to avoid fighting in a war that one does not believe in be considered a crime? According to President Nixon, it would be;
however, according to Jimmy Carter, in the instance of Vietnam, it would not be (Longley). There are many different opinions regarding all
aspects of the draft, so before jumping to conclusions, it important to first look at the facts about the draft. The notion of drafting has been around
for centuries. Even in the colonies, men were required to do military training, as well as be a part of their colonies given militia. These draft
techniques were used in subsequent wars such as the Civil War and World War One. Eventually, in 1940, Congress passed a tangible draft law
(Longley). This is how the draft was to work: Nixon ordered the SSS to establish a random selection sequence for drafting based on birthdays
ranging from January 1, 1944, through December 31, 1950. A man's induction date was dependent upon the order in which the dates were selected.
Since 1944 and 1948 were leap years, which meant that those years held 366 days instead of the normal 365, 366 blue plastic capsules containing
numbers assigned to every birth date possible were placed in a clear container and mixed together. Capsules were chosen by hand on live television.
The order in which each day was chosen designated a man's report date, with 1 being the first birth date to report to duty and 366 being the final birth
date to report for duty. The first birthday

Personal Reflection : My High School Experience In Writing
As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken to get here. I'll start with my high school
experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill,
enough to pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the minimum amount needed to pass
with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something
similar to my experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of work in order to get a decent
grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in
order to do well. This was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As 39B came to a close, I felt
that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B,
broke some bad habits, and worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project (HCP) and Advocacy
Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize
three main areas that I have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision.
Research
I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school. However, since I was taught those lessons years
ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is
out of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a
focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most interesting, copyright and fair use. Given my interest in the topic and slight familiarity, I chose to
tackle the problem of copyright law and fair use. Starting my research, I immediately went to

New York Draft Riots Research Paper
Intro
The New York draft riots were about a law that was passed by the government that made any male between ages 20–40 able to be drafted into the army
without any choice. They would have to leave their families. So after that the families and them would riot and protest to try to stop the law. Though
the law was passed because there wasn't enough soldiers to fight the war. Though that doesn't make it right. The Draft law that was passed in 1863
created chaos as shown in the riots paintings of the New York draft riots.
Body Paragraph #1
To go into more detail, the New York draft riots were a law that was passed that made any male between ages 20–40 liable to be drafted into the army
without a choice. What caused the law was the fact that there wasn't any people in the army to fight. So they drafted normal civilians to do that. "In
1863, in the midst of the American Civil War, Congress passed a conscription law," ( A&E Television Networks, 2009, 1)

"It was the second day of pulling names at random from a hand–cranked drum, and it would lead to the deadliest riots the country has ever seen,"
(Linda Wheeler Para 1) The men had to go no matter what. If they had wives or families, they would have to say goodbye to them and leave them with
stress, because they would have to live with the possibility of their husband or relative dying. So when the government passed that law, the people
immediately erupted. "On July 13, the government's attempt to enforce the draft in New York Cityignited the most destructive civil disturbance in the
city's history," (A&E Television Networks, 2009, 1) They hated the government and went against them. They rioted and killed. Some even were killed
for that. That's why they rioted. There are many paintings showing that too. Like this

The Importance Of Academic Writing
The academic writing process has been around for ages, so the attributes that a scholarly piece, such as this one, must possess in order to be efficient

remain intact and must not waiver throughout each step of the writing process. This very process that forces students to set creativity aside is proposed
to assist in critical thinking skills, writing skills, and embracing of a higher complexity of vocabulary, among other things, is often given much more
credit than is truly due. Both authors that wrote Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses conducted a study that took... Show more

Breaking down each stage of the process and setting shorter–term milestones and deadlines is also recommended. Although many students will continue
to procrastinate their papers, the students that actively participate in the introductory stage of planning are setting themselves up to adopt this efficient
time management method in other facets of daily life. Most of the truly genuine planning occurs in this stage. Once students have a keen understanding
of what they're being asked to do, they can continue to the planning stage of the writing process. In the planning stage, students do most of their
research on their respective topics. It's important that the main objective of the paper remain in the forefront of students' research, given that the first
few searches that come up may not be relevant to their topics. In this stage, students learn what it means to remain vigilant and not wander from the
task at hand. Students will encounter frustration regarding the relevancy of search results; however, this frustration leads to learning how to craft
efficient search queries regarding their topic. Students should deconstruct their topic into various key points that must be addressed, then research and
gather information distinct to said points. Depending on the individual, gathering citations can be interchangeable between steps. One may argue that

The National Basketball Association ( Nba )
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently struggling with a widespread epidemic known as tanking. Tanking, for the sake of this
paper, is a, "team 's intent to do less than everything it can to win." Teams are motivated to tank because of a system known as the NBA Draft lottery,
which assigns the worst NBA teams with the best odds of winning one of the three top picks in the NBADraft (where teams are able to select from a
talent pool of amateur or previously unassociated athletes). This allocation (of higher odds in the NBA Draft lottery) represents a rent, or a, "return to
investment, or effort, that exceeds the opportunity cost rate of return." In this context, it is understood to mean that teams are competing for the ... Show

Whether through occupational licenses, non–compete clauses, or land–use restrictions, rent seeking has been associated with causing higher income
inequality and negatively interfering with the operation of free market economies . An example of the negative effects of of rent seeking can be
found in occupational licenses. While occupational licenses were noted for increasing income by 15% over the free market value of an occupation,
they are also charged with inhibiting entrepreneurship (especially among low income workers), raising prices, and lowering productivity . In fact, a
2011 study even indicated that the existence of occupational licenses may be responsible for removing as many 2.85 million jobs from the US economy .
Given that rent seeking has been blamed for income inequality, job loss, and lower economic productivity, it is no surprise that there have been a
variety of academic works on the subject. One such work is an article by Michael Munger entitled Rent–Seek and You Will Find. In the article, Munger
describes his involvement in the bidding process for HUD grants while working in Charlotte. In this case, the HUD grants represent the rent, as the
grants are a capital infusion that the winning city would receive from the government, rather than income generated from free market actions that drive
more business or sustainable tax income to the city. Munger

Go About Preparing For A Writing Assignment
1.How do you typically go about preparing for a writing assignment? Describe the steps you take, including rereading the assignment, asking questions
about it, talking to instructors or friends, jotting down ideas, gathering information, and so on. How far in advance of the due date do you usually
begin working on the assignment?
Typically, I look at the assignment as soon as I can before the due date in order to begin the brainstorming process. This could be three months or two
days prior to the due date, depending on the situation. The early brainstorming process creates a general path for my writing process. When I am ready
to begin the writing process, I ask myself what the purpose of the assignment is and what point I am trying to make. I then begin researching the topic
by using mostly online resources, however, books and interviews are sometimes required. After enough information is found for my assignment, I begin
writing the assignment.
2.When and where do your best ideas come to you?
My best ideas come to me when I am either relaxed in the shower or in the middle of an intense exercise routine. Although they are extreme opposites,
they are some of the only times that I am completely withdrawn from the outside world.
3.Where do you usually do your writing? Describe this place. Is it a good place to write? Why, or why not?
I currently live with my sister's family and have one room in there house. I usually do my writing in my room with the door

New York Jets Case Study

  • 1. New York Jets Case Study To start the 2018 off–season, the New York Jets had one of the biggest cap spaces in the league. It's fair to say that they took advantage, making many marquee signings. This roster is going to look very different from last year after a revamp of the cornerback group and quarterback room to name a couple of positions. Let's look at who will make the final 53 man roster. Josh McCown (left) and rookie QB Sam Darnold (right) Quarterback: Starter: Josh McCown Depth: Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold Cut: N/A After failed 2nd –round pick Christian Hackenberg was traded to the Raiders for a 7th–round pick, I don't expect any changes to the QB room in New York. Josh McCown gets the start because of his surprisingly adequate play last year and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mo Claiborne is a solid 2nd CB but has dealt with injuries for the last couple of years. And Buster Skrine isn't a great player and commits a lot of penalties, but is formidable for a nickel role. Don't be surprised if 6th round pick out of Tulane, Parry Nickerson takes over Skrine's spot through the season. He's a very quick, agile corner who had the fastest 40 yard dash time at the combine at 4.32. Out of the players who I think will be cut, Rashard Robinson has been the biggest disappointment, after trading a 5th round pick for him in the middle of the 2017 season, he had 2 tackles in 6 games and the Jets will be glad to put this behind them. Jeremy Clark and Derrick Jones, who were both picked last year haven't played bad, but they may become victims of an overcrowded CB ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The NFL Fining Players Anonymous – Dolphin Hour – 8 Edited by – – NFL Fining Players Imagine a person fresh out of college getting fined thousands of dollars. This happens all of the time in the NFL. The bad thing is they're not even breaking the law. Players are breaking the rules in the NFL and get fined. The reason behind all of this is to keep a fair game between the franchises. Yet these people make thousands and thousands of dollars anyways. Does fining even make a difference to them anyways? Some say the NFL fining its players is a good thing. In the NFL there are many things that can cause a fine to a player. According to Jason Plautz players in the NFL can get fines for simply changing the color of their shoes (Mental Floss). Excessive celebration is a common way to get fined usually in the endzone. Only certain celebrations that would include fans or messing with the pylons and actions along those lines can result in a fine to a player. Also making contact with a referee in any way, which can be known in some cases as unsportsmanlike conduct will cause a fine in the direction of that player. Punching and kicking a player from the opposing team will get a player fined. In some cases tackling the quarterback after he has thrown the ball is illegal and the NFL will fine the player, and also late hits and cut blocking are illegal. The interesting thing is a player can avoid a fine, if there is no penalty flag thrown because of their actions. In the NFL there have been fines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. On The Rainy River And John Strickland : Draft Dodger ' The Internal Conflict When the Vietnam war took place, many people protested against it as they believed that the war's purpose was illogical and unreasonable. Many people tried to protest against it in different ways; for example, men who were drafted to the war fled the country – as a form of protest – in order to dodge the draft. Stories like "On the Rainy River" and "John Strickland: Draft Dodger" show how men reacted when they were drafted to the Vietnam War, a war which they were opposed to. In the story "On the Rainy River"– the story was written by an author was also named Tim O'Brien just like the main character in the story – O'Brien was opposed to the war as he believed that the war was unjust and unreasonable and saw it as unnecessary. He tried to flee the country to dodge the draft but he couldn't bring himself to do it as he felt too guilty and ashamed of his decision to avoid fighting in the war. However, in the story "John Strickland: Draft Dodger"– the story was written by John Strickland himself – Strickland, a man who also disagreed with the reason for the war, fled the country as he didn't believe in fighting in a war which had no solid purpose. From his perspective, fleeing the country to dodge the draft was his way of protesting against the war. Both Strickland and O'Brien didn't agree or support the war for similar reasons. Because teams outside of Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago are at a disadvantage in terms of their ability to attract players, except for unusual circumstances (like the appeal of playing with a generational talent like LeBron James), they have to resort to hoping for exceptional talent in the form of early draft picks, whose rights they have the ability to control for 7 years . This same spending cap concept can also be applied to other instances of rent seeking in corporate America, as the government can show more consideration for the effects of the "free money" they give out in the form of rents like subsidies and grants. Btu since the blacks were free but not citizens then they were the spark of much hatred that was aroused by certain factors, particularly from the Irish and German immigrants. Working on a research paper is something I admire, because it involves a process that can be useful in various ways, and is applicable to a variety of situations. What I like most about research papers is the fact that it assists me in developing better organizational and planning skills. Preparing research papers are always challenging, especially for someone who lacks experience and motivation. A research paper requires time and effort, most students that I have seen tend to give up during the end of their research paper. This shows the lack of confidence they have and the inexperience to push on. Conducting a research paper also requires patience; at times you will go through a period of frustration and anxiety. The first step to go about creating a research paper is to find and choose a topic. Finding a topic that would interest and challenge you at the same time is essential. Your attitude to the topic may well determine the amount of effort and enthusiasm you put into your research. Before proceeding with the paper, I would recommend each student to obtain permission from a teacher for the topic they chose. Some topics might be to offensive and hurtful, therefore it is preferable to have the consent of a teacher first. Proceeding without the permission of the teacher will only bring doubt and uncertainty to your paper. The next step is one that most people find challenging, and this is to browse the internet and look for information that goes with the topic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first change that one is confronted with is the change of the title. Owen begins with the word 'dead', which is changed to 'doomed'. In line two the reference to guns is changed from 'our' to 'the' this creates a sense of opposition within the poem again linking in with what the nature of war and creating a sense of 'them' and 'us' this is a very small change but it suggests to the reader that there is no end due to the fact that if the enemy does not stop their fighting then they cannot either. The overall impact of the line of 'the guns' makes the whole connotation seem much more sinister and threatening. In the third line there is a significant change of the phrases Owen uses. It is clear that in the first draft Owen uses personification to an extent that the reader could say he is trying to hard. He then changes technique to one of alliteration and creates a line of 'riffles rapid fire' which is much harder hitting again keeping in the line with the way that Owen is conveying the 'Pity of War' but he also keeps in trend with the two structures of the poem. The line 'riffles rapid fire' has a sense of speed to it, which is what the first stanza is all about. After applying the writing process method, I can break down my writing into manageable chunks and focus on delivering quality material. I believe that my writing dramatically depends on my attitude, motivation and engagement as I have gathered that the writing process takes these components into account by allowing me to plan my writing and create a publishable, final draft of my work of which I can be satisfied. It addresses my need for a real audience and to take the time to draft and redraft my work. I have learned many things about the writing process. I've learned how to recognise my mistakes by revising texts and that sharing with other writers is rewarding and offers challenges. I've identified the high level of experienced and the quality writings achieved when following each method, the simplicity of this process and that it takes time and patience to build a well–structured text. I have also learned that it is okay to make errors in a first draft and as beginner writers, these errors teach us a lot as learners, and it improves our overall future writing abilities. To put it simply, although I have the tools for creating well–regulated writing content, I acknowledge that it will take considerable practice before each writing method is approached positively and confidently in my ability to produce writings with exceptional strength and achievement. Writing is much more than it seems to be. Simply writing is not suffice in the understanding of the skillful process. I have come to realization that writing is just as critical as assembling a car. In the same sense, building a car is about precision and piecing many parts together for the overall outcome of a successful, running automobile. Even then, there may be room for improvements down the line, but in the meantime it is good to produce the best work possible. Writing can be just as critical because it involves a vast variety of things as well. There is more to take into account than simply typing or jotting down words. Writing involves grammar, spelling, punctuation, intended audience, etc... These things of which can become quite confusing, attempting to make them all flow in a smooth, ... That day I didn't do much but I had no idea what soon would happen. It was later that day when I was getting ready for bed. That morning I woke up not knowing what was happening. It was a few hours later when my dad got home from work and told us that the US had declared war on Germany. He said that his boss had gotten a call from his friend in Washington. He said that the president had gave a speech to congress. I was surprised the US had stayed neutral for a long time. It was a couple months later since the US declared war on Germany. • 26. Racism Vs Football Racism This season in the NFL has been one of the more politically and racially driven seasons that we 've seen in a very long time. From President Donald Trump calling NFL players S.O.B 's at a rally in Huntsville, Ala., to Dallas Cowboys ' owner Jerry Jones taking a stance that if any players "disrespect" the flag or national anthem they won 't play, and finally players speaking out across the league on racial injustice and oppression. It truly ignited a conversation in the United States on both sides of the aisle. But how did we get to this point? To answer that question, we have to look at former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who did not stand before a preseason game in 2016 and explained why he did it. "I am not going ... "After seeing what happened to Colin Kaepernick, I knew I had to do something. I was so moved by what he did, as well as several conversations with my sister regarding activism, I couldn 't give my viewership to the NFL this season," he said. Watson also explained what steps he has taken to boycott the league from monetary discussion to just regular football talk with friends. "I am boycotting by not watching games or highlights, buying merchandise, or even discussing games with my friends. Anne Lamott begins off by expressing in "Shitty First Drafts" that practically everybody composes terrible first drafts, yet they keep in touch with them so as to bring about a significant improvement drafts down the line. She even depicts the picture of the splendid writer taking a seat to compose a tremendous first draft easily, and how this picture is once in a while accurate. She says that the first draft is the "youngster's draft" where you simply get everything on paper for yourself, knowing you can set aside a few minutes. It's great to do this on the grounds that in those ramblings, something exceptional could be composed which might be utilized as a part of the following drafts. Lamott examines how being powerless like a tyke will permit you to spill out everything that your intending to express in your paper. Youngsters have no channel; they typically say whatever is on their psyche and what they are precisely feeling inside. Towards the closure of the passage Lamott makes an amazingly brilliant focus, assuming that you weren't meandering on and spilling everything out on the paper, you might never find what you are positively searching for. I need to say I truly delighted in this reading since it brought about a significant improvement about my writing. I realize that I have never been content with the first drafts I have composed, and realizing that writers don't like the first drafts they compose is consoling. Teachers have let me know that this is correct some time recently, yet for reasons unknown, I didn't generally take what they were stating to heart. I like how Lamott provides for us great symbolism, depicting the splendid writer at her work area, rapidly releasing a polished draft in one sitting, and how this never happens. I think this takes a portion of the secret out of exceptional writing: frequently it simply takes a considerable measure of will and time. Maybe some individuals are characteristically preferred at writing over others, yet the way Lamott portrays writing, it appears that anybody, with enough exertion can compose well. • 29. The Draft Of The Vietnam Draft Lottery Ariana Stone PLSC 111 4/30/15 The Vietnam Draft Lottery Starting in the 1960s, the Cold War began to create problems for the United States. The United States adopted the Domino Theory, which stated that if one country fell to Communism than other countries in the region would follow. American foreign policy was largely centered around this idea and once Northern and Southern Vietnam fell into conflict, theUnited States became fearful that Communism would spread throughout Asia. The United States needed to send troops into Vietnam, but many people opposed the war efforts and did not want to fight. This created a collective–action problem that the government needed to handle. Citizens wanted to have a military that would protect them and fight for their country, however many people rather free–ride and benefit from the military without directly contributing to it. Through the original draft system, white males from high income families were less likely to be drafted then men who came from minority backgrounds. This is because they took steps that would qualify themselves for a deferment and excused them from fighting in the war. The United States Government eventually had to enforce the draft more effectively and create a fair system. This new system, called the Draft Lottery, aimed to fix these problems. The change in conscription regulations serves as a collective–action problem in United States History because the original format that citizens were drafted by led the ... After running through the course, I've noticed that my papers required many adjustments that would've been uncalled for last year. Uncharacteristically for my stubborn personality, I forced myself to accept that I am at fault, rather than the very tempting anchor to praise, and looked back at my errors to improve. Through this course, I have learned the importance of using peer review and revisions, bettering the transitions between ideas and paragraphs, staying consistent with my topic, and many other issues that would may my writing better. One of the most pressured lessons I have learned in the course was the important of revising my papers and getting other people to look over my writing. In high school, most revision was mostly looking for errors, such as wrong words, punctuation, and grammar. For the majority, students did not critic the content itself. While these are still problems that I need to fix, the revision process also now includes others analyzing the overall quality and understanding of the work. As the writer, I have difficulties in finding how others may not understand my flow of ideas since everything makes sense to me. Through peer revision, I can adjust my papers to better clarity and fix exactly what problems I may have overlooked so that people who are not me, such as the grader, may be able ... In Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, he emphasizes a chapter on "The Man I Killed", which describes the characteristics of a young Vietnamese man in which O'Brien may or may not have killed with a grenade. The novel is not chronologically sequenced, which leaves more room for the reader to engage in a critical thought process that fully bridges the author's mind to their own. In O'Brien's chapter, "The Man I Killed", he attempts to humanize the enemy in a way that draws little separation between the enemy and himself by relating the enemy's life prior to the war to his, and illustrates the war through the eyes of the soldiers who fought it. "His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was shut, his other eye was a star–shaped hole...," writes O'Brien as he studies the deceased enemy (118). Throughout the novel, the author shows consistency with repeating stories and lines in a way to present a greater image. He reminds the reader of details the elaborate his larger view. When he writes of the man he killed, he wants the reader to imagine themselves in his shoes, as he imagined himself in the enemies'. As he carefully studies the dead man, he imagines how the boy found himself in the war. By relating American society to the boy's village of My Khe, he bridges similarities connecting the two by a culture that promotes defending one's land and ways of life. By saying, "he would have been taught that to defend the land was a man's highest duty and highest privilege," he shows there is minimal difference between how most Americans view the military and the duty of the villagers in My Khe (119). Although he had not known the exact history of the boy, he attempted to illustrate in his own mind what his life may have been like prior to the invasion. The inability for O'Brien to walk away from the body as Kiowa continued to pry him away says he was troubled by the similarities. Despite Kiowa saying it could have been him lying lifeless on ... • 35. The Pros And Cons Of The Draft Draft Would leaving a country to avoid fighting in a war that one does not believe in be considered a crime? According to President Nixon, it would be; however, according to Jimmy Carter, in the instance of Vietnam, it would not be (Longley). There are many different opinions regarding all aspects of the draft, so before jumping to conclusions, it important to first look at the facts about the draft. The notion of drafting has been around for centuries. Even in the colonies, men were required to do military training, as well as be a part of their colonies given militia. These draft techniques were used in subsequent wars such as the Civil War and World War One. Eventually, in 1940, Congress passed a tangible draft law (Longley). This is how the draft was to work: Nixon ordered the SSS to establish a random selection sequence for drafting based on birthdays ranging from January 1, 1944, through December 31, 1950. A man's induction date was dependent upon the order in which the dates were selected. Since 1944 and 1948 were leap years, which meant that those years held 366 days instead of the normal 365, 366 blue plastic capsules containing numbers assigned to every birth date possible were placed in a clear container and mixed together. Capsules were chosen by hand on live television. • 37. Personal Reflection : My High School Experience In Writing As my Writing 39C course comes to a close, now is a great time to look at the journey I have taken to get here. I'll start with my high school experience with writing. Although, I wasn't a terrible writer, I didn't strive to be the best writer I could be. Although I had a decent writing skill, enough to pass the AP English exam at least, I never really pushed my writing abilities to anything beyond the minimum amount needed to pass with a decent grade. Once I got to college, however, writing was a different story. When I came into Writing 39B, I felt it would be something similar to my experiences in my high school AP English classes. Do the assignments with a minimal amount of work in order to get a decent grade, and just pass the class. However, as the course proceeded, I learned that I actually needed to make an effort to apply skill to my writing in order to do well. This was the first time I actually had to rigorously challenge my current skills in order to improve. As 39B came to a close, I felt that I had actually improved my composition skill. Writing 39C was now where I solidified and revised some of the techniques I learned in 39B, broke some bad habits, and worked to understand my style of writing. Working through the Historical Conservation Project (HCP) and Advocacy Project (AP), I have pushed myself to improve my writing skill. Although I have learned a lot throughout this quarters here at UCI, I want to emphasize three main areas that I have made great strides in: research, drafting, and revision. Research I came into Writing 39C with some formal lessons on how to research, mainly from high school. However, since I was taught those lessons years ago, I came into Writing 39C with a clear head. My primary research focus throughout the quarter was on copyright law and how the current law is out of touch with the Internet age. I got this idea from a course I took in the previous quarter. The course was on cyberspeech and gaming, with a focus on obscenity laws and, the thing I found most interesting, copyright and fair use. New York Draft Riots Research Paper Intro The New York draft riots were about a law that was passed by the government that made any male between ages 20–40 able to be drafted into the army without any choice. They would have to leave their families. So after that the families and them would riot and protest to try to stop the law. Though the law was passed because there wasn't enough soldiers to fight the war. Though that doesn't make it right. The Draft law that was passed in 1863 created chaos as shown in the riots paintings of the New York draft riots. Body Paragraph #1 To go into more detail, the New York draft riots were a law that was passed that made any male between ages 20–40 liable to be drafted into the army without a choice. What caused the law was the fact that there wasn't any people in the army to fight. So they drafted normal civilians to do that. The Importance Of Academic Writing The academic writing process has been around for ages, so the attributes that a scholarly piece, such as this one, must possess in order to be efficient are no secret. All academic pieces of writing must have a mix of the following qualities: objectivity, accuracy, and complexity. These attributes must remain intact and must not waiver throughout each step of the writing process. This very process that forces students to set creativity aside is proposed to assist in critical thinking skills, writing skills, and embracing of a higher complexity of vocabulary, among other things, is often given much more credit than is truly due. Most of the truly genuine planning occurs in this stage. Once students have a keen understanding of what they're being asked to do, they can continue to the planning stage of the writing process. In the planning stage, students do most of their research on their respective topics. It's important that the main objective of the paper remain in the forefront of students' research, given that the first few searches that come up may not be relevant to their topics. In this stage, students learn what it means to remain vigilant and not wander from the task at hand. Students will encounter frustration regarding the relevancy of search results; however, this frustration leads to learning how to craft efficient search queries regarding their topic. Describe the steps you take, including rereading the assignment, asking questions about it, talking to instructors or friends, jotting down ideas, gathering information, and so on. How far in advance of the due date do you usually begin working on the assignment?
