Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops
thematically from a line about human nature from John Donne's Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of "No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of
the continent, a part of the main," (Preface). Within the novel, anti–fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an
altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical
conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to be understood as logical
with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a
character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of ideas and
his only fear was not to complete his "duty" to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends
to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is "an Iland," in how he chooses
to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear

Themes In Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises
In 'The Sun Also Rises,' friendships are tested, romance is running high, and people reveal their true colors. There is a lot of drama that seems to
unfold throughout the novel. The organization of the novel makes the drama seem more drastic. 'The Sun Also Rises' doesn't seem to have an effect
on today's generation, or how we view society. This novel had many bumps and curves as it goes, but it was a pleasure to read.
For me, this novel was very hard to follow. I couldn't seem to make sense of the way that things were worded or what even was happening at some
points. The way that Hemingway described certain things just lost me and I failed to understand what he was meaning. Other times however, I
understood perfectly what was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, if Brett would have gone to Spain by herself before the others arrived, she might have fallen in love with someone else. 'The Sun Also
Rises' was organized to what seemed to be the best way possible.
'The Sun Also Rises' has very few different aspects to it that can affect the way society is today. In some circumstances, such as when Brett let the
young bullfighter go because she didn't want to hurt his career, it taught readers that sometimes you have to think about others before you think about
yourself. Also, when Jack helped Brett find her love, even though he was in love with her, it showed maturity that some people lack today. However,
there are other things such as the bullfighting that are not relatable for people that live in the United States. There's not many things that today's
generation can relate to in this novel. Things are very different now, the way people act, talk, the things they do, etc. There is a big difference in the
1920's and the year 2017, things have changed. It's very challenging for me to find things that relate to today's world.
There were different symbols and motifs used in 'The Sun Also Rises.' A couple motifs might be excessive drinking and false friendships. These
motifs are relatable even in today's world. There was a lot of sneaking around behind one another's backs and doing things that maybe the others
wouldn't agree with. Also, there is a

Analysis Of The Book ' Blood Red Road '
Saba's True Goal
Romance can be a part of someone's life, but it isn't always the main focus. In the article "I Can't Think About Kissing: Strong Female Protagonists
and Romance in Dystopian Young Adult Fiction", university student Mollie Hall discusses romance in dystopian novels: "Romance is pursued, but
it is a side pursuit in the female protagonist's journey instead of the goal." (Hall 5). This statement is true in the novel Blood Red Road by Moira
Young. Saba is a girl with a plan, who has had her brother stolen from her own home. She vows to get her brother back and sets off on a journey,
meeting many interesting, villainous, and kind characters. That being said, Saba finds a bit of romance. This, however, is not her main goal. This is
evident during Saba's first meeting with Jack, her need for help, and her thoughts on her relationship with Jack. To begin, the initial meeting between
Saba and Jack demonstrates a romantic viewpoint in the novel. Upon seeing Jack, Saba instantly feels a sense of love from her heartstone, a necklace
charm that heats up when you are near your heart's desire:
I pull out the heartstone tucked safe inside my vest. It's warm. No. Hot.
That's strange. I look at the sky. The sun's dyin [sic.] in the west. The day should be cooling down. (Young 180)
At this moment in time, we know that Jack is a romantic interest in the story. He is immediately designated as Saba's 'heart's desire', implying that she
really wants to be with

Cupids and Capone St. Valentine's Day, a holiday for which love is expressed is a commemoration that occurs once a year. It is a time of year in
which displays of affection are given in the form of chocolates and roses, interchanged between loved ones. However in the year 1929, Valentine's Day
was forever changed for the people of Chicago, Illinois. A man by the name of Scarface, Al Capone, transformed it into a day of bloody massacre. A
familiar bootlegger in Chicago, Al Capone made a point in indicating to anyone who interfered with his business that they would be terminated
immediately. The attack, which is now forever remembered as The St. Valentine's Day Massacre, was an attempt by... Show more content on

Even President Herbert Hoover was aware of the situation in Chicago and he influenced the IRS to find any way necessary to break up Capone's gang.
Hoover hired Detective Eliot Ness, to recruit men to form a group called the Untouchables. This team was sent out to hunt down Capone and his
dealings, and indict him on anything legible. Ness managed to infiltrate Capone's bootlegging ring, but Capone was never tried on Prohibition offenses.
In conclusion, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre will always be a moment in American history that highlights the atrocities of organized crime in the
1920s. Because a prominent figure emerged from the early streets of the "Windy City", the organized crime ring was brought to the forefront of
American attention. Prohibition would last until 1933, but the effects of Al Capone have yet to

A Teenage Romance Novel : Eleanor And Park
Eleanor and Park
Eleanor and Park is a teenage romance novel that revolves around two grade ten students named Eleanor Douglas and Park Sheridan. Eleanor
moves to Omaha, Nebraska and has a hard time finding her spot in this new town. She comes from a very poor family of seven with younger
siblings Ben, Maisie, Mouse, Richie jr, her mother Sabrina and the evil and abusive stepfather Richie. Eleanor has a hard time fitting in at school
since she's overweight, has big red curly hair, wears the same two oversized men outfits everyday and is just overall a quirky person. On the other
hand Park has been living in Omaha his full life and a wealthy family of four. He is a geeky Asian–American and is an outsider among his schoolmates.
These two starcrossed lovers go through good and bad times throughout their story and represent real life scenarios that people face day on day. In this
story the main conflict is Eleanor and Park falling in love but none of their family and friends support them, leading to major fights and outbreaks that
take a toll on there relationship. This man vs man conflict started when park let Eleanor sit by him on the bus in the beginning of the novel, which is a
big deal due to the fact you have to fight for your seat on the bus. The two main characters quickly developed love for eachother after spending a hour
everyday together on the school bus. The protagonists tried to keep their significant others knowingness away from their parents because eleanor's

Tomorrow When the War Began- John Marsden Essay
Tomorrow when the war began– John Marsden Novel essay. "Tomorrow When The War Began" by John Marsden, is a novel of survival, friendship,
love and war. He uses many language techniques (e.g. simile, metaphor, personification, oxymoron, irony, symbol, allusion etc.) to get across to the
reader the importance of each of the themes discussed. He also uses these techniques to set the mood in each chapter and to help emphasise each major
point in the novel. "We've learnt a lot and had to figure out what's important– what matters, what really matters."– Ellie Survival in "Tomorrow When
The War Began" is a very important issue. The whole novel is about Ellie and friends learning to become independent and to fend for themselves in a

They must go through a series of challenges to get from point A to point B by stealing vehicles and food. When Ellie and Robyn pick up Lee from
his restaurant they have to kill soldiers to get away. Same as when Ellie, Kevin and Corrie blow up the lawnmower, they also blow up soldiers in
order to stay safe for a little while. Friendship is another major theme in the novel, John Marsden uses this theme to overlap with other issues like
survival and war. The characters of the novel all depend on those around them for help and support in everything they do. Friendship provides
people with strength, hope and love, and all these things help a person overcome tragedies, death, and moments when it seems life isn't worth
living. An example from the novel would be when Corrie's house is blown up, she is devastated and it is only with the support of the others that she
can continue. A real life issue about friendship/love and survival would be the incident with the Beaconsfield miners. The miners were sure they
would die, but with the thought in there heads of family and friends outside waiting for there arrival, they continued on battling for there lives,
relying only on the support of loved ones. When Lee was shot in the leg by soldiers, Robyn carried Lee over her shoulder until it was safe enough to
treat the wound. Robyn overcame her fear of blood and cuts, to save Lee from infection and disease. John Marsden uses techniques like first person

Historical Fiction And Romance Genres In Literature
All novels can be categorized into genres based on their plots and characters. This allows for readers to easily identify a variety of books that they
may enjoy due to shared writing styles and story lines. For example, works of historical fiction take place in the past and are based on historical events
and attitudes of the time. The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a wonderful example of this genre. It is about a white socialite, Skeeter, who
works in secret with the coloured help of Jackson, Mississippi to write a book about work and life from the help's perspective. Romance works
however focus on the relationship between two characters and the journey they go through together. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is an
excellent example of this genre. It is about two teenagers who are forced to sit together on the school bus. They both have complicated social and home
lives but find comfort in each other which quickly leads to a romantic connection. By reading multiple genres, one can see the distinct differences that
make them unique while also drawing parallels particularly within the author's writing style. The genres historical fiction and romance both appeal to
the reader's emotions however the stylistic choices create very different final products. Historical fiction and romance genres both focus on characters
that are easily identifiable although they vary greatly in terms of plot structure and target audience.

Analysis of the Old Romanticism Genre through Izzy,...
When we think of romance novels, one's first thought might be of the kind we see at the newsstand while waiting to check out at the grocery store.
Visions of a white knight like Fabio whisking away the fair damsel in distress. Romance novels for the young adult are appealing because many
romantic symbols relate directly to what they're experiencing both physically and emotionally in their lives; that of youthfulness and hope.
The protagonist of Izzy, Willy–Nilly is Isobel Lingard, a/k/a Izzy; a 15 year old sophomore, who is a popular girl at school. When asked out by a
senior, Marco Griggers, she becomes the envy of her friends. The ironic thing is that she wasn't even that interested in him, personally. It was more the
fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of the visions Izzy had through her alternate "little Izzy" was when she came home from the hospital and was trying to develop
some type of routine. Learning how to adjust living in the real world with her physical challenges. Izzy could see "little Izzy" all folded up on the
floor. She looked like a bad imitation of the dying swan, her leg and a half stuck out and her head bowed down. "Little Izzy" put her hands over her
face, wanting to disappear into the gray darkness of depression that was swallowing her alive.
Romance literature for young adults uses the characteristic of exaggeration to express a variety of emotions to its reader. This normally is
accomplished in a fast–paced plot, where the characters are few and the narrative events and language flow quickly while still presenting dramatic
images. In Izzy, Willy–Nilly, all of the different incidents with Izzy's girlfriends and the townspeople help to portray how society has a tendency to
only look at things from a superficial view. Izzy originally thinks the same way when Rosamunde first enters her life. Rosamunde is different than
anyone Izzy has ever known. She isn't very pretty; she doesn't dress well at all; she is also very outspoken and opinionated about everything. At first,
this difference is a barrier between the two girls and their interactions with each other. Rosamunde is constantly apologizing for overstepping her

The Pursuit to Discover
Intro: A.S. Byatt's Possession: A Romance establishes itself as a postmodern university novel because it centers on the field of research and academia
development through a campus setting. Roland Mitchell, the protagonist of the story, is a postdoctoral and literary researcher who is more focused on
academia than job prospects, fixing his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend Val, and overall taking part in mandatory obligations such as
household contribution, that primarily falls on Val. The audience is introduced to Roland as he studies: "The London Library was Roland 's favourite
place. It was shabby but civilised, alive with history but inhabited also by living poets and thinkers who could be found squatting on the slotted metal
floors of the stacks, or arguing pleasantly at the turning of the stair" (4). The novel centers on Roland's discovery of two letters written by fictional
Victorian poets, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. Roland prides and invests the majority of his time to research and decoding these
letters, in hopes of pursing a top academic standing in his field. Possession focuses the themes of history and the past, academic pursuit, and the
downfalls of what becomes an obsession.
University novel:
Foremost, in order to classify Possession as university novel, one must first understand what a university novel is. In J.J. William's terms: "Campus

Comparing Time of the Temptress and Gone With the Wind
In the Harlequin romance Time of the Temptress, by Violet Winspear, the author seems to be trying to write an intelligent story of romance, bettered by
its literary self–awareness. She fails on both counts. Winspear appears to recognize that more valued literature tends to involve symbolism and allusions
to other works. It seems she is trying to use archetypes and allusions in her own novel, but her references to alternate literature and culture are
embarrassingly obvious and awkward. Another inter–literary connection, though, is more difficult to notice unless the book is pondered –– something
the typical romance reader is not likely to do. Although Winspear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is not ashamed of it as she is (or at least should be) of the others.
Winspear seems to be attempting to model her characters after those of Gone With the Wind. The main characters in Time of the Temptress have
significant references to Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara, but Winspear cannot capture what makes Margaret Mitchell's characters so appealing.
The descriptions of Wade O'Mara are so Rhett–like, it is surprising that Winspear's Eve does not remark, or think, "you remind me of Clark Gable!"
She does, however, repeatedly relate him to Humphrey Bogart, famous for films of the same era as Gable. Wade is depicted as tall, dark, and madly
handsome. He exudes masculinity, and is in complete control at all times. His hair is wavy black, and his well–tanned skin tightly covers his rippling
muscles. His demeanor is mocking, and he always has an upper hand when speaking with the heroine. He is experienced with, and understands the
ways of, women. All of these characteristics also describe Rhett Butler. Even Wade's speech, described as drawling, reflects Rhett's southern accent.
They also both have mysterious pasts, and each has a son, with whom he carries a rather distant relationship.
It is not hard to see why Violet Winspear would draw her male character so closely to Margaret

"Do you mean you want a secretary or something?"
"No, I'm asking you to marry me, you little fool."
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is a fine example of the romantic genre as it reflects certain conventions such as the hero and heroine?s characteristics.
It also subverts many romantic conventions for example, the journey to happy ever after. Conventions of the gothic/horror genre are also found in the
novel.
The conventions that Rebecca reflects of the romantic genre are those of the characteristics of the hero and heroine (as mentioned above). The heroine is

in the novel and her speech, especially towards Maxim. The attitude of self–degrading belonging to the narrator accurately reflects the corresponding
convention of the romantic genre.
Furthermore, Rebecca reflects the conventions of the romantic genre by showing that the heroine?s first impressions of the hero were incorrect. She
had first viewed him as ?hard? and ?sardonic? due to his remarks at Mrs Van Hopper, ?He got up at once, pushing back his chair. ?Don?t let me
keep you,? he said. ?Fashions change so quickly nowadays they may even have altered by the time you get upstairs.?? However, following her first
breakfast with Maxim, she realises that she was wrong and says, ?I had ill–judged him, he was neither hard nor sardonic, he was already my friend of
many years.? The first impression of Maxim only lasts over one coffee with Mrs Van Hopper however is fixed soon after when he sends the heroine
a note which reads, ?Forgive me. I was very rude this afternoon.? It is evident that as soon as she receives this note, her opinions of the hero change.
She also elaborates on her feelings the next morning when Maxim invites her

Why We Broke Up Essay
Why We Broke Up is not your classical romance novel, it is quite the opposite. Why We Broke Up, a contemporary romance novel written by Daniel
Handler takes a completely unique approach to a romance story, deprived of all the cliches of classical young adult romance literature. The book
illustrated by Maira Kalman and was published in 2011 by the Hachette Book Group. Handler's novel is an accurate representation of a real–life
relationship. The novel is narrated by Min, who tells the story of and contemplates her previous relationship through a collection of prosaic objects.
The novel's title Why We Broke Up is self explanatory. Why We Broke Up talks about relationships, and along with relationships, heartbreak. The story
is told as a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book is unique Because it is in a letter form, from Min's perspective. If the novel would have been from Ed's perspective the story would have
been completely different. It would have been the classic love story where the popular guy starts dating the girl that is outstanding and is nothing
compared to the girls he has ever been with, the girl would have gotten to see and discover the real him that noone has yet seen, then he would face
an obstacle in his life, everything would go downhill just like any other classic love story that we are used to reading. The writing style is very
interesting because the chapters were very descriptive especially with the help of visuals. Although some chapters felt like they were being rushed, it
wasn't a big issue since all the other chapters were astonishing. Since the romance novel is describing items in a breakup box, the illustrator Maira
Kalman paintings are used as a portion of enhancement that made the items worth sparing. Anyone who has experienced heartbreak would find Min's
arguments relatable. One of the many reasons why I enjoyed this book is because many readers can relate to Min's situation. Throughout the novel we
find out that Min and Ed are from different social groups, and because they are so young readers like myself can relate and understand their problems.
The audience can usually find themselves in situations

Analysis Of The Book ' Blue Heron '
Kristan Higgins is best selling author of several novels including the "Blue Heron" series. The books in the series are connected because of the Blue

beginning of their respective books.
"The Best Man" was the first book released in the series and was released in early 2013. This book is centered around Faith Holland. Three years
ago, Faith Holland was left at the altar by her fiance whose best man, and now the town 's police chief, Levi Cooper, told her he was gay right

where that is concerned, and helps her grandparents get back together again after their marriage hit a rough patch. You also see how her and her

How Narcissistic Is It Of Humanity
How have we as humans found material that perfectly reflects light to show us ourselves? How narcissistic is it of humanity, in the midst of trying
to improve itself, it manages to drown in the waters of its own selfishness? Why have we tampered with what nature gives us? Was water not
enough? Nature provided us with our own pure, unfiltered mirror. Nothing crafted by hand, just our reflection, our hopes, dreams, sins, faults, all
thrown back at us. It's actually terrifying. See a mirror can be altered. Some mirrors are better than others. Some are old and foggy, while others are as
clear as day. Water, however, it's the same. Under the moonlight, we are exposed.
It's safe to say, meeting him under the moonlight beside the water, was the ideal way for me to meet the man who would ruin my life. Ariel, found
me writing like a mad man beside a small creek that divided our campuses. He offered me lunch and I quickly refused. Much like most men, Ariel
was self absorbed and had a raging superiority complex. He was the type of man who believed he could spark a flame in my heart and whisk me
away into the depths of his soft, weak, yet beautiful heart. The poor man was determined to make me fall in love. Unfortunately for him, I do not
believe in love. I never have, and I never will.
Instead, I have decided to humor him and allow him to make me dinner at his place. He wants to eat and discuss my writing. Ariel writes as well, and
I'm positive he assumes he is Shakespeare himself.

The Aspects Of Medieval Courtly Love In The Middle Ages
Knights in armor, damsels in distress, heroic quests, masquerade balls–this was the essence of romance in the Middle Ages. In medieval European
literature, love is for the nobility, chivalrous, and virtuous. Andreas Capellanus defined courtly love as "Love is a certain inborn suffering derived
from the sight of and excessive meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each one to wish above all things the embraces of the
other and by a common desire to carry out all of love's precepts in the other's embraces." Capellanus 28) In other words love and suffering go
hand–in–hand, much like modern love. Capellanus gives the "Rules of Love" (1) governing how men and women should behave in relationships.
Compared to the modern–day idea of love, courtly love rarely had a happy ending. Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business
arrangements that brought material advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly combined with Chivalry. In the Legend
of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, King Arthur's Queen. Guinevere, fell in love with his right–hand and fellow knight, Sir Lancelot.
This is an example of one of the many illicit court romances that occurred due to the art of Medieval Courtly Love. Modern–day movies and tv–shows
that are set in the Middle Ages (such as Narnia, Princess Bride, Galavant) value chivalry. The audience (mostly women) are supposed to fall in love
with the main male character, who is usually a

identical in sharing their perception. Catherine declares, famously, "I am Heathcliff," while Heathcliff, upon Catherine's death, screams that he cannot
live without his "soul," meaning Catherine. Catherine and Heathcliff's declarations of a union of souls. Heathcliff was described as a Byronic or Gothic
hero– villain might be manageable. Wuthering Heights has strong connection with Gothic romances over and beyond the Gothic characteristics of
Heathcliff. Gothic novels put in an atmosphere of terror and using equipment of ghosts and the weather outside the house of Wuthering Heights and
one of aspects of Gothic, Isabella and the second Catherine's incarceration at Wuthering Heights, also feminist criticism established modes of reading
the genre as psychological oppression of women. Relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine is sibling love rather than adulterous romantic
passion. This relationship with Romantic poetry means that Heathcliff, after Catherine's death, becomes a Romantic hero, with a capital "R", rather
than a romantic hero with a small

Intertextuality In Walang Forever
Analyzing Genres and Intertextuality: A Critical Paper on the Film "Walang Forever"
Genre Analysis The genre analysis approach in analyzing media texts helps classify and breakdown the different genres that were recognized by the
viewers as well as created by the movie makers. These genres offer satisfaction to their target audience brought by the pleasure of having predicted
what was supposed to happen during the film. Genre analysis also identifies whether there is intertextuality present in relation to other films with the
same genre. The recognition of these genres and having identified their importance within the media text will help the audience to relate the different
cinematic elements of the film and gain more understanding of the ideas that the media text wanted to convey.
Genre Analysis and Ideology
Having mentioned that the recognition of genres within a media text offer pleasure or satisfaction to its audience, it is implied that genre analysis is
also related to the different ideologies offered by the media text since there is a momentary satisfaction gained from having achieved the goal of
identifying the genres and predicting the possible outcome of the media text. However, the paper will only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with the drama genre is the tragedy which is recognized when Ethan died. However, tragedy was not heavily observed since the movie foretold that
Mia has accepted and expected the death of her lover. This somehow relates to a person's life where he or she loses a loved one, which is very painful

The Romance Novel Marriage Essay
The Romance Novel Marriage
From the moment they saw each other they knew they were the perfect pair. They knew instantly that the other was their soul mate. It was love at first
sight. This knowledge is followed by amazing sex. Then the ecstatic couple gets married and lives "Happily Ever After." I'm talking about the modern
day adult fairy tale, also known as the romance novel. I've been reading these novels since I was in the seventh grade. My first one was titled Bitter
Sweet, written by Laverle Spencer, and was found in my mom's closet. From there I graduated to the more sordid novels with half–naked people on the
covers. My adolescent mind was absolutely fascinated and I could not wait until I found my guy and could experience ... Show more content on

But they do apply to a major part of the married population, so for those who scoff too quickly at my words, you may want to take a second look.
I do not, in any way, want marriage to become harder to dissolve. I want legalities and governments to stay out of these affairs as much as possible.
What I want is for individuals to bring their heads out of the clouds for just a moment and really ponder how happy they'll be once their spouse is out
of their life. Will you be happy with that new person you have in mind, whether you've actually met them or not? What happens when the new wears
off, and your new mate is not romance novel material either? More signatures and lawyers to erase that marriage too? These are the questions that
Polly Shulman asks in her article titled "Great Expectations." Her answer is that the basic problem comes from waiting for something better to come
along, something closer to a romantic novel:
The reality is that few marriages or partnerships consistently live up to this ideal. The result is a commitment limbo, in which we care deeply for our
partner but keep one stealthy foot out the door of our hearts. In so doing, we subject the relationship to constant review: Would I be happier, smarter, or
a better person with someone else? It's a painful modern quandary. 'Nothing has produced more unhappiness than the concept of the soul mate,' says
Atlanta psychiatrist Frank Pittman. (Shulman 570)

Essay To My One Love
Facing death at any age is difficult, but for Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and John Sullivan, it came early, resulting in two essays retelling their
experience. In their accounts of these situations, the author can see they both want to emphasise that death can come in very unexpected situations. To
My One Love, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, begins on page 17 of 50 Essays by Samuel Cohen. In her essay, set in present day, she has flashbacks
to her relationship with a boy "from the wrong side of town" named Nnamdi. They were in a loving relationship against their peers' wishes. When it
came time for them to separate due to education in separate locations, they had ended the relationship, but not before Nnamdi had promised that them ...

In addition to the brain scans, the article titled "Romance novel" on Wikipedia also shows support to my claim of the romance genre affecting the
reader. The article states, "By the 2000s, romance had become the most popular genre in modern literature.", and in speaking of 2008, "making up
13.5% of the consumer market." With evidence of readers choosing romance genres, I believe the audience will also lean toward an essay containing a
romance genre.
Another way I believe To My One Love was more effective is because of the tone of her essay compared to Feet in Smoke. In To My One Love,
Chimamanda recalls her experience in present day with flashbacks to when her and Nnamdi were together. In her present day, she presents herself
with joy of just publishing poetry in a newspaper office. She says on page 17 of 50 Essays, "I swaggered and smiled, too full of accomplishment."
When she notices a picture on the wall of Nnamdi dead, the continuation of the essay is foreboding (the flashbacks) and somber (going through the
rest of present day). The foreboding and somberness puts emphasis on the emotions of facing death in unexpected situations (Chimamanda didn't
expect Nnamdi to die so early in life or to see a picture of him on the wall which brought back all those feelings).
In Feet in Smoke, the tone is more scattered, going from neutral (just relaying facts of how his

Romance Romance Essay
Romance begins with an attraction between two people and grows into an emotional attachment called love. Affection, acts of kindness, words of
affirmation, quality time, and sacrifice all exemplify ways to show love. According to Webster's, romance defines as a love story especially in the
form of a novel. Novels enable readers to dive into a romantic story and experience the love shared between two people. According to a study from
BookStats, "The estimated total sales value of romance novels in 2013 was $1.08 billion" (qtd. in "Romance Statistics"). Romance novels still require a
high demand with their multitude of sub–genres. More specifically, paranormal, historical, and contemporary romance entice people to read romance

Pride and Prejudice, a novel written by Jane Austen, characterizes as a historical romance. The story takes place in 1813 and displays the emotional
development of the protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who overcomes her hasty judgement of Mr. Darcy and falls in love with him (Austen). The novel
exhibits the necessity of marrying for love, rather than financial reasons. In the early 19th century, men and women faced the social pressures of a
good, wealthy match. In fact, the first line of the novel writes: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good
fortune, must be in want of a wife" (Austen). Published nearly two hundred years ago, Pride and Prejudice continues to fascinate the minds of modern
readers. According to Megan Bruening, a Ph.D. English Student at Lehigh University, Pride and Prejudice appears near the top of many lists for
"most–loved books", from both literary scholars and the general public (Bruening). History holds the intent to inform others of events from the past,
but when romance associates with history, it becomes much more; it gives a clearer vision of the reality in history. Contemporary romance prevails as
the largest genre of romance. Jessica Lind, an American librarian, claims contemporary romance takes place in the time frame of its writing and
focuses primarily on the romantic relationship (Lind). The Handmaid's Tale, a novel written by Margaret Atwood, follows the journey of Offred, a

Narrative Loss And The Melancholic Reader Of Johnny Tremain
In Eric Tribunella's essay "Narrative Loss and the Melancholic Reader of Johnny Tremain", the concept of failure is one of Tribunella's main focal
points throughout the essay about Esther Forbes' Johnny Tremain. Tribunella argues that these failures are present because the novel lacks climax
throughout the essay's entirety and without this climax there is no sense of closure in the most climatic events. One particular failure that Tribunella
mentions in his essay is the failure of love triangles in the novel. Tribunella argues that there are three love triangles in Johnny Tremain but none of
these are fulfilled with a "bang". Instead each one of these love triangles slowly fizzles out throughout the novel. The love triangles that are found in
Forbes' Johnny Tremain are not those that represent an epic romance but instead they represent those of a childhood crush. These representations can
be found in each one of the love triangles that Tribunella argues that is present in the novel. Tribunella states that one of the love triangles in the
novel is between Johnny, Cilla, and Tweedie. One would believe that this love triangle would create a great conflict in the series due to the fact that
Tweedie is imposing on what was theoretically Johnny's territory. Johnny was the original "golden boy" in the Lapham household and due to one
accident his pedestal was taken away from him. Tweedie, a man who was not even around, swoops in to save the Lapham family and takes Johnny's

One of the best examples of this in Nicholas Sparks novel Safe Haven, "'Then you should have never have left me,' he whispered his breath heavy
with alcohol. He pulled the trigger and the gun sounded with a loud crack...He felt a burning in his stomach, fire." (Sparks 360). The novel was
about a lady Katie who ran away from her abusive husband and found someone who actually loved her Alex. The good versus evil in this is the
people. The evil person is the husband that eventually is killed by gunshot. Then the good is the life that she builds with this family and this is the
one that wins. It is common in Sparks' novels to have a good versus evil plot within people and the person that is perceived as bad typically ends
up dead. This is also shown in Sparks' novel Lucky One, the dad, Keith, was speaking and then the son Ben was speaking, "He could catch his
breath only in snatches, and he flailed against the death that he suddenly knew was coming... 'Where is dad?' At his words he began to cry."
(Sparks 377, 380). Throughout the novel it is discovered that the dad is an alcoholic, he is verbally abusive to his previous wife, and it is insinuated
that he isn't very involved in his son's life. The dad in this instance would be considered as the evil and then the new boyfriend would be considered
as the good. In the end of the book the dad dies a tragic death and Logan ends up with Beth and her son, Ben. Once again showing that in the end good
overcomes evil. Although this isn't always true it is an exciting

As a young adult, Jane is unlike her peers in that she is uninterested in searching for a husband. Instead, she busies herself with her education and

82), demonstrating that she is concerned with how she is to be perceived. Moreover, from chapters 13–18, the first few paragraphs each revolve around
Mr. Rochester, leading many to claim that Jane had become too focused on marriage and had lost her feminist will. Bronte was further critiqued for
how Jane reacted to Mr. Rochester's proposal, after their near–wedding, that Jane should become his mistress. Unsurprisingly, Jane immediately
refused, but claimed that it was because she was unhappy with how society would perceive her should she become a mistress, a decision which put
pride before her own happiness. It could be argued, however, that Jane was merely unhappy with the idea of being a mistress for her own reasons
and simply chose to console Mr. Rochester with her diplomatic response. If this is in fact the case, readers may wonder why Jane felt compelled to
spare Mr. Rochester's emotions when he so clearly betrayed and misused her.
While Jane Eyre is a novel that is composed of many different themes and elements, the story principally revolves around the romance between Mr.
Rochester and Jane. Although romance novels were very common during the 19th century, Bronte's novel differed by incorporating issues into the
romance that relate to the

Jane Austen 's Pride And Prejudice
In the article "Pride and Prejudice – Inversion and Criticism of the Romantic Novel" written by Koh Tsin Yen, Yen thoroughly explains a deeper
meaning of Pride and Prejudice from both hers and Austen's perspective of the novel. In Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, which takes place in
the 19th century, Austen portraysmarriage and social class as two themes with an extreme importance. While tying together two similar points of views,
Yen also incorporates Austen 's themes from hernovel as well. Throughout the novel several elements are incorporated into the marriages that take
place. One of the biggest elements incorporated into the thought of these marriages is social class. By providing examples of several marriages to
prove that this novel isn't your average romance, Yen makes her thesis clear. Several marriages throughout the novel are happening for not the obvious
reasoning of love, but rather for the reasoning of other elements instead: social class, wealth, and reason. The first marriage that takes place in the
novel is Mr.Collins and Charlotte Lucas'. This marriage is a clear indication of reason, and it strongly shows two people looking to marry specifically
for the reasoning of logic. Mr.Collins, a middle–class clergyman, believes that every "clergyman ... (like [himself]) ... needs to set the example of
[marriage] ..." (Austen 91). This is the first reason Collins gives for marriage, yet one of the most important as well. With Collins stating this, it shows

Everyone loves to tell the story of their first love, and the beautiful lesson they learned through the adventure. You hear the phrase, "you'll never

my bedroom's floor, with two years of a person's presence surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave for college,
knowing that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak that left me with a cracked and bruised heart. The recovery and
journey of finding acceptance and love for myself, created a book of my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like reading the final book

Are You Watching Romantic Comedies? Or Reading Romance...
Sometimes God asks me to talk about a subject that He is still teaching me Himself. Usually it's an area of my life that I know needs correction and

Today is one of those days.
Friend, there is a tool that the devil has been using in my life and in the lives of many woman for far. too. long.
I'm talking about the spirit of discontentment.
The enemy uses our thoughts to lure our hearts into a place of discontentment. He WANTS us to questions the Lord. He wants us to be anxious and

What 's Wrong With Fifty Shades?
What's Wrong with Fifty Shades?
Throughout history, novelists have been writing about romance, from William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" to Margaret Mitchells "Gone with
the Wind". Readers can find a romance novel about any type of love they can possibly imagine. From the perfect romance where a prince sweeps you
off your feet or a rough around the edges cowboy that is stubborn but you know he means well. Romance novels are over the top, feel good books, but
just recently a new novel came out, by the author E.L. James called Fifty Shades of Grey. This series of novels is not the first of its kind but for
various reasons, Fifty Shades of Grey dominated bestseller lists. Even though it truly blurred the line between a loving consensual relationship and an

Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance
Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance? What determines what a true love story is? Many events in Romeo and Juliet make the audience question
whether or not they are truly in love or are just blinded by a false or not true version of a not so deep feeling. Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story
but it stands out compared to other love stories. Romeo and Juliet continue to be a true love story to this day. They are married at a young age and
differentiate from other love stories, it's still considered to be true love, though some aspects of the novel are considered to be more tragic than
romantic. Most people in this world will do just about anything for true love and, given the chance; will go to major lengths to prove that they are
in love, even getting married at a very young age. To begin with, most people will do anything for true love. According to Definition of Love, "Simple
infatuation is often called a 'crush' or 'puppy love'." (Definition of Love, par. 1). This means that some people are only in love for a small time or not in
love very much. People like "a teacher, and uncle or aunt, a friend or family [or] an actor or actress" (Definitions of Love, par. 1) are examples of
people we love but not very strong or for a very long time. Simple infatuation is not true love. It is but a sliver of what true love really feels like a
silly dream that we have. Romeo and Juliet's love was so strong that nothing would get in the way of their marriage, not even their age. Many

High Fidelity Analysis
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995. Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (1995) details the
struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob Fleming.
Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and
Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob's problems
seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to
making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his
relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob's numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the
romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke's Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help
to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob's top five breakups. The list
includes Sarah Kendrew, Penny Hardwick, Charlie Nicholson, Jackie Allen, and Allison Ashworth. The protagonist is over thirty years old and he

must learn to let go. For some of us, as described in the song, we must let go of a past romantic relationship. Maybe the relationship was not meant to
be: perhaps it was hurtful to us, or perhaps it was hindering the personal or spiritual growth of one or both partners. In this case, even when there may
still be feelings of passion, or attraction, or just the comfort of the familiar, we must be strong in letting go of something that is... Show more content on

Often adult children who have lost a parent before working through interpersonal issues, or before having an opportunity to say goodbye, have
difficulty letting go of unresolved issues or guilt. Sometimes we may need to go for some counseling or do a ritual (some act with personal meaning)
to allow us to release these emotions. Many of us have trouble letting go of old ways of viewing people who have been part of our lives for an
extended period of time. They may be changing, and yet we do not let go of viewing them in the same way, and/or we try to discourage that change.
We refuse to let go of the labeling, categorizing, and pre–set expectations we have of those we know, and of ourselves. This seems particularly true of
many parents of teenage or young adult children. Many parents have a difficult time letting go of them as children, and allowing them to grow up. It
is hard for parents to make that transition from treating their children as kids, to treating them as adults and more like friends. Many of these same
parents have trouble letting go of viewing themselves, primarily, in the role of parent. For instance, some mothers are afraid to let their kids become
grownups, because they are afraid to let go of their own identity as "mother." They have become so identified with that one role, that they no longer
are sure who they are, outside of that role. When we refuse to let go of old ways of identifying and viewing ourselves and others,

Romance Related Texts
I have chosen Romance as my genre for my connections report. I will be linking the three texts, Pride and prejudice written by Jane Austen, P.s I love
you by Cecelia Ahern, The notebook by Nicholas sparks and my one chosen visual text, Titanic directed by James Cameron. Romance books usually
follow similar routines to fit within the romance genre. The plot, character, and happy endings will be the three connections I will discuss. I will link
them to form my final analysis of the connections between romance genre texts.
My first connection, that love conquers all, is shown, though my visual text in the film Titanic. We watch as Jack and Rose are forced to hide their
love and true feelings from each other when they are faced with obstacles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The river was still as I walked across the bank and neared the house. I edged closer to the front door with each step I took. I had known that I was
forbidden to see Hamlet, but that hadn't stopped me from visiting him in the late hours of the night. I did worry about him sometimes, I wondered
if he was lonely or sad, I wondered if he wanted to see me, but he knew he couldn't because if my father saw him. Oh, the consequences would be
grave. I opened the front door with both of my hands to ensure I made as little noise as I could. The housed looked the same as it always had. Small
and cluttered though there was only a little bit of dust here and there. Hamlet had lived there all his life, he was born in the bedroom left of the
kitchen and had learnt to crawl, walk and run in the hallways of that house. I stepped past the door, closing it behind me, and walked towards the
other end of the living room. I remembered playing 'tag' around his mother's sofa, we would stand on both sides of it and watch each other trying to
anticipate one another's movements. His eyes were a deep blue that almost looked like the water furthest depths of the ocean and when he smiled, his
teeth shone like the richest pearls hidden inside a sea clam. I walked down the familiar hallways with light footsteps when something pressed against
my shoulder. It did frighten me a little and had made me imagine if my father had caught

Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls

  • 1. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John Donne's Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of "No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main," (Preface). Within the novel, anti–fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete his "duty" to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is "an Iland," in how he chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear views, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Themes In Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises In 'The Sun Also Rises,' friendships are tested, romance is running high, and people reveal their true colors. There is a lot of drama that seems to unfold throughout the novel. The organization of the novel makes the drama seem more drastic. 'The Sun Also Rises' doesn't seem to have an effect on today's generation, or how we view society. This novel had many bumps and curves as it goes, but it was a pleasure to read. For me, this novel was very hard to follow. I couldn't seem to make sense of the way that things were worded or what even was happening at some points. The way that Hemingway described certain things just lost me and I failed to understand what he was meaning. Other times however, I understood perfectly what was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, if Brett would have gone to Spain by herself before the others arrived, she might have fallen in love with someone else. 'The Sun Also Rises' was organized to what seemed to be the best way possible. 'The Sun Also Rises' has very few different aspects to it that can affect the way society is today. In some circumstances, such as when Brett let the young bullfighter go because she didn't want to hurt his career, it taught readers that sometimes you have to think about others before you think about yourself. Also, when Jack helped Brett find her love, even though he was in love with her, it showed maturity that some people lack today. However, there are other things such as the bullfighting that are not relatable for people that live in the United States. There's not many things that today's generation can relate to in this novel. Things are very different now, the way people act, talk, the things they do, etc. There is a big difference in the 1920's and the year 2017, things have changed. It's very challenging for me to find things that relate to today's world. There were different symbols and motifs used in 'The Sun Also Rises.' A couple motifs might be excessive drinking and false friendships. These motifs are relatable even in today's world. There was a lot of sneaking around behind one another's backs and doing things that maybe the others wouldn't agree with. Also, there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Book ' Blood Red Road ' Saba's True Goal Romance can be a part of someone's life, but it isn't always the main focus. In the article "I Can't Think About Kissing: Strong Female Protagonists and Romance in Dystopian Young Adult Fiction", university student Mollie Hall discusses romance in dystopian novels: "Romance is pursued, but it is a side pursuit in the female protagonist's journey instead of the goal." (Hall 5). This statement is true in the novel Blood Red Road by Moira Young. Saba is a girl with a plan, who has had her brother stolen from her own home. She vows to get her brother back and sets off on a journey, meeting many interesting, villainous, and kind characters. That being said, Saba finds a bit of romance. This, however, is not her main goal. This is evident during Saba's first meeting with Jack, her need for help, and her thoughts on her relationship with Jack. To begin, the initial meeting between Saba and Jack demonstrates a romantic viewpoint in the novel. Upon seeing Jack, Saba instantly feels a sense of love from her heartstone, a necklace charm that heats up when you are near your heart's desire: I pull out the heartstone tucked safe inside my vest. It's warm. No. Hot. That's strange. I look at the sky. The sun's dyin [sic.] in the west. The day should be cooling down. (Young 180) At this moment in time, we know that Jack is a romantic interest in the story. He is immediately designated as Saba's 'heart's desire', implying that she really wants to be with ... Poole II Ms. Dennstedt English 3 16 May 2016 Cupids and Capone St. Valentine's Day, a holiday for which love is expressed is a commemoration that occurs once a year. It is a time of year in which displays of affection are given in the form of chocolates and roses, interchanged between loved ones. However in the year 1929, Valentine's Day was forever changed for the people of Chicago, Illinois. A man by the name of Scarface, Al Capone, transformed it into a day of bloody massacre. A familiar bootlegger in Chicago, Al Capone made a point in indicating to anyone who interfered with his business that they would be terminated immediately. Even President Herbert Hoover was aware of the situation in Chicago and he influenced the IRS to find any way necessary to break up Capone's gang. Hoover hired Detective Eliot Ness, to recruit men to form a group called the Untouchables. This team was sent out to hunt down Capone and his dealings, and indict him on anything legible. Ness managed to infiltrate Capone's bootlegging ring, but Capone was never tried on Prohibition offenses. In conclusion, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre will always be a moment in American history that highlights the atrocities of organized crime in the 1920s. Because a prominent figure emerged from the early streets of the "Windy City", the organized crime ring was brought to the forefront of American attention. • 5. A Teenage Romance Novel : Eleanor And Park Eleanor and Park Eleanor and Park is a teenage romance novel that revolves around two grade ten students named Eleanor Douglas and Park Sheridan. Eleanor moves to Omaha, Nebraska and has a hard time finding her spot in this new town. She comes from a very poor family of seven with younger siblings Ben, Maisie, Mouse, Richie jr, her mother Sabrina and the evil and abusive stepfather Richie. Eleanor has a hard time fitting in at school since she's overweight, has big red curly hair, wears the same two oversized men outfits everyday and is just overall a quirky person. On the other hand Park has been living in Omaha his full life and a wealthy family of four. He is a geeky Asian–American and is an outsider among his schoolmates. These two starcrossed lovers go through good and bad times throughout their story and represent real life scenarios that people face day on day. In this story the main conflict is Eleanor and Park falling in love but none of their family and friends support them, leading to major fights and outbreaks that take a toll on there relationship. This man vs man conflict started when park let Eleanor sit by him on the bus in the beginning of the novel, which is a big deal due to the fact you have to fight for your seat on the bus. The two main characters quickly developed love for eachother after spending a hour everyday together on the school bus. The protagonists tried to keep their significant others knowingness away from their parents because eleanor's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Tomorrow When The War Began" by John Marsden, is a novel of survival, friendship, love and war. He uses many language techniques (e.g. simile, metaphor, personification, oxymoron, irony, symbol, allusion etc.) to get across to the reader the importance of each of the themes discussed. He also uses these techniques to set the mood in each chapter and to help emphasise each major point in the novel. "We've learnt a lot and had to figure out what's important– what matters, what really matters."– Ellie Survival in "Tomorrow When The War Began" is a very important issue. They must go through a series of challenges to get from point A to point B by stealing vehicles and food. When Ellie and Robyn pick up Lee from his restaurant they have to kill soldiers to get away. Same as when Ellie, Kevin and Corrie blow up the lawnmower, they also blow up soldiers in order to stay safe for a little while. Friendship is another major theme in the novel, John Marsden uses this theme to overlap with other issues like survival and war. The characters of the novel all depend on those around them for help and support in everything they do. Friendship provides people with strength, hope and love, and all these things help a person overcome tragedies, death, and moments when it seems life isn't worth living. An example from the novel would be when Corrie's house is blown up, she is devastated and it is only with the support of the others that she can continue. A real life issue about friendship/love and survival would be the incident with the Beaconsfield miners. The miners were sure they would die, but with the thought in there heads of family and friends outside waiting for there arrival, they continued on battling for there lives, relying only on the support of loved ones. When Lee was shot in the leg by soldiers, Robyn carried Lee over her shoulder until it was safe enough to treat the wound. • 7. Historical Fiction And Romance Genres In Literature All novels can be categorized into genres based on their plots and characters. This allows for readers to easily identify a variety of books that they may enjoy due to shared writing styles and story lines. For example, works of historical fiction take place in the past and are based on historical events and attitudes of the time. The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a wonderful example of this genre. It is about a white socialite, Skeeter, who works in secret with the coloured help of Jackson, Mississippi to write a book about work and life from the help's perspective. Romance works however focus on the relationship between two characters and the journey they go through together. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is an excellent example of this genre. It is about two teenagers who are forced to sit together on the school bus. They both have complicated social and home lives but find comfort in each other which quickly leads to a romantic connection. By reading multiple genres, one can see the distinct differences that make them unique while also drawing parallels particularly within the author's writing style. The genres historical fiction and romance both appeal to the reader's emotions however the stylistic choices create very different final products. Historical fiction and romance genres both focus on characters that are easily identifiable although they vary greatly in terms of plot structure and target audience. • 8. Analysis of the Old Romanticism Genre through Izzy,... When we think of romance novels, one's first thought might be of the kind we see at the newsstand while waiting to check out at the grocery store. Visions of a white knight like Fabio whisking away the fair damsel in distress. Romance novels for the young adult are appealing because many romantic symbols relate directly to what they're experiencing both physically and emotionally in their lives; that of youthfulness and hope. The protagonist of Izzy, Willy–Nilly is Isobel Lingard, a/k/a Izzy; a 15 year old sophomore, who is a popular girl at school. When asked out by a senior, Marco Griggers, she becomes the envy of her friends. The ironic thing is that she wasn't even that interested in him, personally. It was more the fact that ... Another example of the visions Izzy had through her alternate "little Izzy" was when she came home from the hospital and was trying to develop some type of routine. Learning how to adjust living in the real world with her physical challenges. Izzy could see "little Izzy" all folded up on the floor. She looked like a bad imitation of the dying swan, her leg and a half stuck out and her head bowed down. "Little Izzy" put her hands over her face, wanting to disappear into the gray darkness of depression that was swallowing her alive. Romance literature for young adults uses the characteristic of exaggeration to express a variety of emotions to its reader. This normally is accomplished in a fast–paced plot, where the characters are few and the narrative events and language flow quickly while still presenting dramatic images. In Izzy, Willy–Nilly, all of the different incidents with Izzy's girlfriends and the townspeople help to portray how society has a tendency to only look at things from a superficial view. Izzy originally thinks the same way when Rosamunde first enters her life. Rosamunde is different than anyone Izzy has ever known. She isn't very pretty; she doesn't dress well at all; she is also very outspoken and opinionated about everything. At first, this difference is a barrier between the two girls and their interactions with each other. Rosamunde is constantly apologizing for overstepping her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Byatt 's Possession : A Romance Establishes Itself As A... The Pursuit to Discover Intro: A.S. Byatt's Possession: A Romance establishes itself as a postmodern university novel because it centers on the field of research and academia development through a campus setting. Roland Mitchell, the protagonist of the story, is a postdoctoral and literary researcher who is more focused on academia than job prospects, fixing his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend Val, and overall taking part in mandatory obligations such as household contribution, that primarily falls on Val. The audience is introduced to Roland as he studies: "The London Library was Roland 's favourite place. It was shabby but civilised, alive with history but inhabited also by living poets and thinkers who could be found squatting on the slotted metal floors of the stacks, or arguing pleasantly at the turning of the stair" (4). The novel centers on Roland's discovery of two letters written by fictional Victorian poets, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. Roland prides and invests the majority of his time to research and decoding these letters, in hopes of pursing a top academic standing in his field. Possession focuses the themes of history and the past, academic pursuit, and the downfalls of what becomes an obsession. Comparing Time of the Temptress and Gone With the Wind In the Harlequin romance Time of the Temptress, by Violet Winspear, the author seems to be trying to write an intelligent story of romance, bettered by its literary self–awareness. She fails on both counts. Winspear appears to recognize that more valued literature tends to involve symbolism and allusions to other works. It seems she is trying to use archetypes and allusions in her own novel, but her references to alternate literature and culture are embarrassingly obvious and awkward. Another inter–literary connection, though, is more difficult to notice unless the book is pondered –– something the typical romance reader is not likely to do. Although Winspear... Winspear seems to be attempting to model her characters after those of Gone With the Wind. The main characters in Time of the Temptress have significant references to Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara, but Winspear cannot capture what makes Margaret Mitchell's characters so appealing. The descriptions of Wade O'Mara are so Rhett–like, it is surprising that Winspear's Eve does not remark, or think, "you remind me of Clark Gable!" She does, however, repeatedly relate him to Humphrey Bogart, famous for films of the same era as Gable. Wade is depicted as tall, dark, and madly handsome. He exudes masculinity, and is in complete control at all times. His hair is wavy black, and his well–tanned skin tightly covers his rippling muscles. His demeanor is mocking, and he always has an upper hand when speaking with the heroine. He is experienced with, and understands the ways of, women. All of these characteristics also describe Rhett Butler. Even Wade's speech, described as drawling, reflects Rhett's southern accent. They also both have mysterious pasts, and each has a son, with whom he carries a rather distant relationship. It is not hard to see why Violet Winspear would draw her male character so closely to Margaret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The attitude of self–degrading belonging to the narrator accurately reflects the corresponding convention of the romantic genre. Furthermore, Rebecca reflects the conventions of the romantic genre by showing that the heroine?s first impressions of the hero were incorrect. Why We Broke Up, a contemporary romance novel written by Daniel Handler takes a completely unique approach to a romance story, deprived of all the cliches of classical young adult romance literature. The book illustrated by Maira Kalman and was published in 2011 by the Hachette Book Group. Handler's novel is an accurate representation of a real–life relationship. The writing style is very interesting because the chapters were very descriptive especially with the help of visuals. Although some chapters felt like they were being rushed, it wasn't a big issue since all the other chapters were astonishing. Since the romance novel is describing items in a breakup box, the illustrator Maira Kalman paintings are used as a portion of enhancement that made the items worth sparing. Anyone who has experienced heartbreak would find Min's arguments relatable. One of the many reasons why I enjoyed this book is because many readers can relate to Min's situation. • 19. The Aspects Of Medieval Courtly Love In The Middle Ages Knights in armor, damsels in distress, heroic quests, masquerade balls–this was the essence of romance in the Middle Ages. In medieval European literature, love is for the nobility, chivalrous, and virtuous. Andreas Capellanus defined courtly love as "Love is a certain inborn suffering derived from the sight of and excessive meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each one to wish above all things the embraces of the other and by a common desire to carry out all of love's precepts in the other's embraces." Capellanus 28) In other words love and suffering go hand–in–hand, much like modern love. Capellanus gives the "Rules of Love" (1) governing how men and women should behave in relationships. Compared to the modern–day idea of love, courtly love rarely had a happy ending. Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business arrangements that brought material advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly combined with Chivalry. In the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, King Arthur's Queen. Guinevere, fell in love with his right–hand and fellow knight, Sir Lancelot. This is an example of one of the many illicit court romances that occurred due to the art of Medieval Courtly Love. The love story of Heathcliff and Catherine is rooted in their childhood and is marked by the refusal to change. Catherine and Heathcliff were identical in sharing their perception. The novel exhibits the necessity of marrying for love, rather than financial reasons. In the early 19th century, men and women faced the social pressures of a good, wealthy match. Narrative Loss And The Melancholic Reader Of Johnny Tremain In Eric Tribunella's essay "Narrative Loss and the Melancholic Reader of Johnny Tremain", the concept of failure is one of Tribunella's main focal points throughout the essay about Esther Forbes' Johnny Tremain. Tribunella argues that these failures are present because the novel lacks climax throughout the essay's entirety and without this climax there is no sense of closure in the most climatic events. One particular failure that Tribunella mentions in his essay is the failure of love triangles in the novel. Tribunella argues that there are three love triangles in Johnny Tremain but none of these are fulfilled with a "bang". Instead each one of these love triangles slowly fizzles out throughout the novel. The love triangles that are found in Forbes' Johnny Tremain are not those that represent an epic romance but instead they represent those of a childhood crush. These representations can be found in each one of the love triangles that Tribunella argues that is present in the novel. Tribunella states that one of the love triangles in the novel is between Johnny, Cilla, and Tweedie. One would believe that this love triangle would create a great conflict in the series due to the fact that Tweedie is imposing on what was theoretically Johnny's territory. • 28. 'Good Vs. Evil In Safe Haven' By Nicholas Sparks Romance, who needs that. This is exactly what most of Nicholas Sparks' characters think. Nicholas Sparks is an American that writes a majority or romance novels. Commonalities in all of his books are that he always writes about North Carolina, there is some form of struggle of good versus evil, and death. Sparks has written and published twenty different books and of the twenty eighteen of them are romance novels. Sparks plays an important role in American literature and its evolution, has characters that are relatable, and there is a good versus evil part of all his books and is why Sparks is such and influential writer. One of the best examples of this in Nicholas Sparks novel Safe Haven, "'Then you should have never have left me,' he whispered his breath heavy with alcohol. He pulled the trigger and the gun sounded with a loud crack...He felt a burning in his stomach, fire." (Sparks 360). The novel was about a lady Katie who ran away from her abusive husband and found someone who actually loved her Alex. The good versus evil in this is the people. The evil person is the husband that eventually is killed by gunshot. Then the good is the life that she builds with this family and this is the one that wins. It is common in Sparks' novels to have a good versus evil plot within people and the person that is perceived as bad typically ends up dead. This is also shown in Sparks' novel Lucky One, the dad, Keith, was speaking and then the son Ben was speaking, "He could catch his breath only in snatches, and he flailed against the death that he suddenly knew was coming... 'Where is dad?' At his words he began to cry." (Sparks 377, 380). Throughout the novel it is discovered that the dad is an alcoholic, he is verbally abusive to his previous wife, and it is insinuated that he isn't very involved in his son's life. The dad in this instance would be considered as the evil and then the new boyfriend would be considered as the good. In the end of the book the dad dies a tragic death and Logan ends up with Beth and her son, Ben. Once again showing that in the end good overcomes evil. Even before her arrival at Lowood, Jane finds that reading is a form of escapism available to her during her most unpleasant moments at Gateshead. Furthermore, after her time a Lowood, Jane makes the decision for herself (another feminist ideal) to become a governess, eventually guiding her towards Thornfield and her inevitable romance with its master. Moreover, from chapters 13–18, the first few paragraphs each revolve around Mr. Rochester, leading many to claim that Jane had become too focused on marriage and had lost her feminist will. Bronte was further critiqued for how Jane reacted to Mr. Rochester's proposal, after their near–wedding, that Jane should become his mistress. Unsurprisingly, Jane immediately refused, but claimed that it was because she was unhappy with how society would perceive her should she become a mistress, a decision which put pride before her own happiness. It could be argued, however, that Jane was merely unhappy with the idea of being a mistress for her own reasons and simply chose to console Mr. Rochester with her diplomatic response. If this is in fact the case, readers may wonder why Jane felt compelled to spare Mr. Rochester's emotions when he so clearly betrayed and misused her. While Jane Eyre is a novel that is composed of many different themes and elements, the story principally revolves around the romance between Mr. Rochester and Jane. • 30. Jane Austen 's Pride And Prejudice In the article "Pride and Prejudice – Inversion and Criticism of the Romantic Novel" written by Koh Tsin Yen, Yen thoroughly explains a deeper meaning of Pride and Prejudice from both hers and Austen's perspective of the novel. In Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, which takes place in the 19th century, Austen portraysmarriage and social class as two themes with an extreme importance. While tying together two similar points of views, Yen also incorporates Austen 's themes from hernovel as well. Throughout the novel several elements are incorporated into the marriages that take place. One of the biggest elements incorporated into the thought of these marriages is social class. By providing examples of several marriages to prove that this novel isn't your average romance, Yen makes her thesis clear. Several marriages throughout the novel are happening for not the obvious reasoning of love, but rather for the reasoning of other elements instead: social class, wealth, and reason. The first marriage that takes place in the novel is Mr.Collins and Charlotte Lucas'. This marriage is a clear indication of reason, and it strongly shows two people looking to marry specifically for the reasoning of logic. Mr.Collins, a middle–class clergyman, believes that every "clergyman ... (like [himself]) ... needs to set the example of [marriage] ..." (Austen 91). This is the first reason Collins gives for marriage, yet one of the most important as well. With Collins stating this, it shows his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many events in Romeo and Juliet make the audience question whether or not they are truly in love or are just blinded by a false or not true version of a not so deep feeling. Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story but it stands out compared to other love stories. Romeo and Juliet continue to be a true love story to this day. They are married at a young age and differentiate from other love stories, it's still considered to be true love, though some aspects of the novel are considered to be more tragic than romantic. Most people in this world will do just about anything for true love and, given the chance; will go to major lengths to prove that they are in love, even getting married at a very young age. To begin with, most people will do anything for true love. According to Definition of Love, "Simple infatuation is often called a 'crush' or 'puppy love'." (Definition of Love, par. 1). This means that some people are only in love for a small time or not in love very much. People like "a teacher, and uncle or aunt, a friend or family [or] an actor or actress" (Definitions of Love, par. 1) are examples of people we love but not very strong or for a very long time. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop, Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his girlfriend. Rob's problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob's numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle of this protagonist, with Burke's Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent, Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure and infiltration of pop culture. We cannot move on to the new while continuing to cling to the old. There come times, in the context of love and romance, when we must learn to let go. For some of us, as described in the song, we must let go of a past romantic relationship. Maybe the relationship was not meant to be: perhaps it was hurtful to us, or perhaps it was hindering the personal or spiritual growth of one or both partners. In this case, even when there may still be feelings of passion, or attraction, or just the comfort of the familiar, we must be strong in letting go of something that is... Often adult children who have lost a parent before working through interpersonal issues, or before having an opportunity to say goodbye, have difficulty letting go of unresolved issues or guilt. Sometimes we may need to go for some counseling or do a ritual (some act with personal meaning) to allow us to release these emotions. Many of us have trouble letting go of old ways of viewing people who have been part of our lives for an extended period of time. They may be changing, and yet we do not let go of viewing them in the same way, and/or we try to discourage that change. We refuse to let go of the labeling, categorizing, and pre–set expectations we have of those we know, and of ourselves. This seems particularly true of many parents of teenage or young adult children. Many parents have a difficult time letting go of them as children, and allowing them to grow up. It is hard for parents to make that transition from treating their children as kids, to treating them as adults and more like friends. Many of these same parents have trouble letting go of viewing themselves, primarily, in the role of parent. For instance, some mothers are afraid to let their kids become grownups, because they are afraid to let go of their own identity as "mother." They have become so identified with that one role, that they no longer are sure who they are, outside of that role.
