How Traditional Clothing Must Be Addressed, Along With...
When looking to introduce GAP shirts in Turkey for the female market, there are many cultural
considerations that must be taken into account. Traditional clothing must be addressed, along with
textiles. We believe that these products will be successful due to the popularity of American style
within the target market. Also, the styles and materials that the company uses already have some
overlap with the type of clothing that is popular in the cities. Although there are many young
individuals in the middle and upper class that idealize Western styles, shirts must still be adapted to
fit into the environment and religious practices of the country. The GAP branding will remain the
same, but other aspects must be changed to accommodate the ... Show more content on

Turkish business practices and procedures are much different than those in U.S. and other countries,
so it is crucial for GAP to be aware of business etiquette before entering this market. For the
Turkish, meeting times to discuss business practices are vital. Since religion is particularly
important, members are expected to be on time, and to have organized appointments and meetings
around the five daily prayer times and holidays. In Turkey, business is a serious matter and is treated
very formally. It is important for GAP representatives to greet Turkish members with a firm
handshake and engage in small talk when entering into conversation. In the Turkish culture, if a
person immediately begins discussing business, rather than getting to know their counterparts, the
host may take offense to these actions and consider them rude. Additionally, individuals generally
stand close during conversation and do not require as much personal space as other cultures. As a
result, it is important for GAP employees, when meeting Turkish colleagues, to never back away
from them so that they are not perceived as unfriendly. Further, when going through business
processes, the Turkish culture is known for taking longer than most countries in negotiating, so this

An Inquiry into the Dilemma of the Turkish Language Essay
Turkish is one of the youngest and rapidly developing languages; furthermore approximately 80
million people speak Turkish as a mother language in the world. 1928 was a very crucial year for the
development of the Modern Turkish language because Latin alphabet adopted instead of Arabic
script and after this transition numerous events sequentially shape the Turkish language. On the
other hand, the use of contemporary the Turkish language triggers some concerns. Although the
Turkish language has been searching ways out for sophisticated dilemmas since 1920's, it confronts
historical, political, cultural issues and risk of losing originality, degeneration of quality and misuse
in the media; as a result of this process the Turkish language is ... Show more content on

The following political policies led to marginalize official minorities such as Greeks, Armenians and
Jews. They spoke different languages in the community and this situation conflicted with nationalist
policies of government. Ahıska and Yenal note "Vatandaş Türkçe Konuş (Citizen Talk Turkish)
campaign, posed a threat to minority groups and their native languages by attempting to marginalize
them within the community." (47) This analysis and these strict prohibitions show us the intensive
political pressure on the minority groups. Another vital point is the Turkish government did not
recognize even the Kurdish, Arabic, Circassian tongues because of the mainstream nationalist
discourse persecuted to the community. Until the liberalization period, those kinds of pressures and
attrition policies densely influenced the Turkish language's evolution. In 1980's, Turgut Özal
introduced imported goods as a consequence Turkish people became familiar with foreign terms and
brands. As the article stated "foreign brands entered common usage, Turkish products were also
outfitted with brand names borrowing foreign word."(Ahıska and Yenal 47) In the end, the Turkish
language has accomplished the political interventions era.
When we consider last 20 years, we are encountering with degeneration of the language.

Analysis of Politics in The Republic of Turkey
The book follows the author's preceding work on the two Ankara parliaments during the War of
Independence and studies the parliaments of the Republic of Turkey from 1923 to 1946, roughly the
time known as the single party period when the political power was monopolized by the Republican
People's Party (CHP – Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası/Partisi). In his former research Demirel had given a
large place to political disputes in the Turkish parliament by highlighting the actions of the fraction
opposed to the group under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). The scope of his research has
changed, since the parliaments he deals with were composed nearly exclusively by deputies of the
single party, giving way to what Mete Tunçay has called an "unanimous democracy" (24).
Nevertheless, the book is part of a historiographical current that challenges the discourse the
kemalist regime has had on its proper history and insists on political contradictions in the formative
processes of the early Republic. In his analysis, the author draws mostly upon the official
parliamentary publication, with some references to the press and to memoirs by leading politicians.
He meticulously scrutinizes the composition of the six parliaments from 1923 to 1946 and presents
valuable empirical data on the deputies, like age, geographical origin, education, profession, or
seniority in parliament. Demirel processes the empirical data by analyzing the transition between
two parliaments, and highlighting the

Turkey Research Paper
The history is always a good place to start when you are writing a paper over countries. The history
of Turkey is pretty interesting to talk about. During the 1300s a group of Turks also know for as the
Ottomans founded a principality in Northwestern Anatolia. Which means the Ottoman created an
empire and that empire soon became one of the most powerful empires in the world. With that being
said later on in 1939–1945 Turkish sided with the democratic western nations during and after
World War II. Now switching from history over to geography, agriculture in Turkey is widely
practiced in the Northwestern and the Southwestern of Turkey. Now you notice that the Eastern part
of Turkey wasn't mentioned, that is because the Eastern parts of turkey are the most mountainous
parts, which tells you that it's very difficult to practice agriculture there. Now a little more about
mountains are that many peaks in Turkey exceed 10,000 feet at the least. Turkey's highest point is
Mt. Ararat which peaks at 16,948 feet, which is very tall compared to the "smaller" ones. Another
very interesting thing about Turkey is the people and their lifestyles, you may not know but turkish

Miraj Hammam Spa
Introduction Before starting any design process, the designer must consider doing a research and a
case study. Research is considered important for designers because it helps them highlight the key
elements and principles of design that are effective and helps them examine designs for holes or
mistakes. This allows the designer to learn from other designers mistakes and learn new effective
ideas. Case study is a great method of research that allows the designers to experience and visualize
the spaces, and helps them learn from other designers' experiences and previous designs as well as
what they chose for the space layout, materials, lighting and the like. Local and international spas

Essay Chaucers Canterbury Tales
Take any pilgrim whose tale we read and show Chaucer artfully matches the story to the teller.
Of the many stories he writes the tale told by the Wife of Bath is the most verbal and for its time the
most forthright exposition of the role women did not have but could have in that time period. The
wife of Bath's story is fairly general a man is accused of trying to rape a woman and the sentence for
this charge is to be hung. The mean pleads and pleads to be acquitted of his charge so the queen of
the time says he will not be hung if he finds the answer to a certain question. The question is "What
is it women most desire." He is given one year and one day to find this answer and until the day
before his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Wife of Bath I see as being more the naïve, idealistic old hag. Another correlation is how sly
they both are and how they like to gossip.
I am pretty positive Chaucer meant for the Old Hag to be related to the Wife of Bath for the different
reasons I have explained. It is still odd how the character made it into Canterbury Tales but
interesting all the same; The Wife of Bath's story best describe whom she herself actually is.
Chaucer's portraits of the clergy and church related position show evidence of a religious system full
of corruption and hypocrisy. Examine in depth 2 or 3 of Chaucer's pilgrim portraits from the
prologue, illustrate or demonstrate how the medieval church was in need of reform.
The late 14th century church almost a disgrace to the meaning and reputation it was supposed to be
upholding. This was not true for all of the church as is true all of Chaucer's characters were not exact
remakes of their real life counterpart. The clergy (Monk and Prioress and Friar) and other church
related affiliates (Summoner and Pardoner) are made out to be corrupting the church. The Friar was
a member of the mendicants, who were a group that traveled from town to town supposedly helping
the poor this was however not what he did. The Summoner and pardoner were both not qualified for
the positions they held and were in a sense stealing money from those that

The Turkish Bath And Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres
The concept of 'the gaze' in visual culture can take many forms, but generally it deals with the way
in which people look at objects or subjects consciously and unconsciously. This idea can operate
through the media, artwork or by simply just looking at another person. However, there has always
been a sense of bias in relation to how both men and women are depicted in art. Jean Auguste
Dominque Ingres' The Turkish Bath (1852–1863 illustrates the 'male gaze' and the presentation of
women in a Turkish bathhouse in the 19th century whereas Sylvia Sleigh's At the Turkish Bath
(1976) conveys an interpretation of the 'female gaze' with a reimagined version of Ingres' painting of
the same name but uses men as the subjects in the 20th century. This essay will therefore discuss the
manner in which the 'gendered gaze' functions within Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres The Turkish
Bath (1852–1863) in comparison to Sylvia Sleigh's At the Turkish Bath (1976).
In The Turkish Bath by Ingres, the image portrayed is one of the artist's most famous works and is
intended for a male spectator. In the painting, a large group of naked women are lounging in an
oriental setting of a Turkish harem, they are displayed in sensual positions which inflict a sense of
erotica. To the right, women are seen caressing each other intimately as they look to the left towards
someone not seen in the painting. Behind them, a woman is sat comfortably with her arms loosely
crossed together whilst another does her

Social Issues In Northanger Abbey, By Jane Austen
Northanger Abbey is a classic written by Jane Austen. The novel is celebrated as a literary
masterpiece that deals with the English social class system, along with the social rules and it shows
the results of choices made by the characters. The story follows Catherine Morland, a girl who is
heavily influenced by books, but is also very naïve to the outside world. Catherine lives in the
modest town of Fullerton, and her life there has been mostly very protected and sheltered from
lifestyles and habits of people outside of Fullerton. The Morlands are friends with another family
named the Allen's. They are wealthy members of society, and they extend an invitation to take
Catherine with them to Bath, which is a wealthy area for families that meet that clientele. Because
her life in Fullerton has been so sheltered and moderate, her experience in Bath is a whole new
world and it excites and scares her alike. While in Bath, Catherine is introduced to a young man by
the name of Henry Tilney, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The varying hierarchies between Catherine and Isabella and between Catherine and Henry are
interesting for one to read through. The effects the social classes had on Isabella were arguably
greater than any other major character in the story. She was attracted to the drama, gossip, and vigor
of that lifestyle. Isabella thrived on knowing the "important" information about people in the society,
and she was well–learned on other people's personal lives. The idea of having a rich and popular and
important husband caught her attention more than marrying for love did. She was engaged to James
for love, but once a better offer came along in the form of Captain Frederick Tilney, she had a
change of heart. Suddenly, she was content with leaving behind her fiancé of humble beginnings and
earning for someone for susceptible to adventure, danger, and or course,

Global Opportunities for Turkey Essay
Global Opportunities for Turkey The world is becoming much more connected, especially in the last
few decades. The idea of being free individuals has become more important, as well as free market
economies. Some ideologies have collapsed because of their antiquated offers about the political
situations, yet some of them are ruling the world in the last hundred years. But if there is something
certain about the whole world, it is that globalization is affecting and changing it. Turkey is located
at the center of the Europe, Asia and Africa, therefore the political and economical circumstances of
it are important both for the Western part and the Eastern part of the world, then, the role of the
globalization is very important to Turkey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many examples as well as these two in the book, but I think that they are sufficient to
explain that the 'combining' situation more effectively, that is one of the fundamentals of
globalization. Just three of four decades before, the situation of Turkey in the free market was very
poor. There was no opportunity to find a product of a brand that is famous world widely. You could
not buy cola, you could not buy blue jeans, you could not buy good fashioned cars, etc. You can't
even taste the traditional foods of the other countries, like Italian foods or Chinese cuisine. I may
give much more interesting example that in the late 1970s, nearly all of the cinemas, including the
major ones in the country had closed or in fact, crashed. Maybe you may not believe but, until the
closing, in every town in every city, even in the many of the villages, there were cinemas. But after
that, people could not find a cinema to watch the new picture of Marlon Brando or Robert De Niro

The Banning Of The Headscarf
In most countries around the world, it is not uncommon to see a woman in an article of clothing that
is representative of the Muslim faith and history. This type of dress is typically worn in countries
located in the Middle East. The wardrobe of a woman in these countries would contain articles such
as an al–Amira, burka, or a hijab. Some women wear these clothing items for religious or traditional
purposes, but others wear them solely by choice. However, there are certain countries around the
world that oppose the wearing of certain Muslim–style clothing. One country in particular, Turkey,
does not issue total support of the wearing of headscarves for women. In fact, the government has
issued a ban on the wearing of headscarves by women in government facilitated places. The banning
of the headscarf is a heavily debated subject in Turkey due to political and social beliefs of the
Turkish people. Since the ban was put into existence, the Turkish people, specifically women, have
felt the negative effects that have resulted from it. The headscarf is an item of clothing that is worn
by Turkish women for several reasons, not solely for religious practices. The scarf has a deep history
behind it, stemming from the Ottoman influence on the Middle East. Since the beginning of the
headscarf wearing, the framework of the headscarf has developed into many different ideals.
Different groups of women wear the item for different purposes. Marlene Breau explains that the

Literary Analysis Of Northanger Abbey
Jane Austen's book, Northanger Abbey tells the tale of a young heroine, Catherine Morland coming
into her adulthood in the city of Bath and later at Northanger Abbey. She learns of social standards,
friendship, love, and dishonesty all of which are written in the books she loves so dearly. The last
paragraph of the work finishes the satire with extreme cliched points that represent the gothic novel
to a tee. Throughout the novel, Jane Austen uses satire to make fun of the classical gothic novel with
the cliched points such as love at first sight, a man coming to save the day, and of course a
mysterious abbey that holds all the spooks and scares an 18–year–old girl could wish for. But alas,
the Northanger Abbey is nothing of the sort, rather it is a modernized structure with only pieces of
the mysterious that it had been before. Catherine, starved of mystery, even tries to create a horror
story of General Tinely murdering his wife, or later keeping her captive in the dungeon, all of which
are disproven by our hero, Henry Tinely. The humor in the novel is shown through the actions and
dialogue of our beloved characters. Catherine is rather ignorant when it comes to social cues such as
Isabella's constant flirting and desire of attention, not just from the opposite sex but rather Catherine
as well. Our heroine was blinded by happiness and sisterhood to see what the reader saw all along,
Isabella was lying, gold digger with a pretty smile and goddess complex. A part of the humor in
Catherine's ignorance lies in the double meaning comments Isabella makes that go over her poor
head and when she finally realizes Isabella's true motives towards the end of the novel: Money.
There is a reference to the deadly sins throughout the novel. While there are certain sins such as
greed and pride that can summarize the majority of novel, there is at least one character that
reprensts each sin. Mrs. Allen has an obsession where clothing allowing her to represent gluttony.
When directed towards his children, General Tinely shows anger. Henry, our beloved hero is not one
to be humble and tends to know a little bit about everything while taking pride in believing he is
better than others. Greed could be given to any of the

Migration of Turkic Tribes
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another to settle and live in the new area.
Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 – The
Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration.
2010). In the ancient times the number of moving people was little, but the causes were
approximately the same. Especially, migration of ancient Turks had a significant role in formulation
of world civilizations. Their migration periods cover several thousand years. The most famous
migration stage of Turks was in the II–VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes
migrated and spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant
cause of Turkic migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of
crisis and famine in their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in
different periods. Living in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to
find fruitful lands. Especially, during the Migration Period, in 395, Huns (Turks) moved to Europe
because of famine. Moreover, some Turkic groups migrated to wide steppes in order to find and
extend their pastures. While the amount of people and cattle were increasing, it was difficult to
accommodate animals with pastures. For instance, Yuruks ('Walkers'), who initially settled in
Eastern Anatolia, moved to Western Anatolia to

Roald Dahl's Use Of Foreshadowing
Landlady
Who knew that a business trip (that should have only lasted for a few days) could have such a
disastrous ending. It started out normally as a young man by the name of Billy Weaver entered the
city of Bath, but as he poked his nose around a bit too much, he was never heard from again. Roald
Dahl's twisted story "The LandLady" is not your average story. We have to infer the ending of the
story but Dahl does leave small hints to tell us what were the "Landlady's" intentions. Even though
we have to assume what happens at the end, it's clear that the genre is interchangeable between
thriller and mystery. The story is about a disturbed old lady that lures unsuspecting young men to
their death. The appropriate theme for this story should be if you choose to ignore your instincts, it
can have an unfortunate outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"The LandLady" supports this claim; the story shows an old woman that wasn't visited very much
and due to this, she went psychopathic. Roald Dahl shows us that loneliness can consume anyone
regardless of the gender and age; like when she started doing unspeakable things just to get
company. Even though she was alone this doesn't give her a reason for taking the lives of young
men, but loneliness took over her mind so she couldn't stop. Billy started to stereotype the old lady
which lead him to keep his guard down. He did not consider his instincts at all so the end result was
an unfortunate outcome for him. We know that this story doesn't have a Disney ending because of
this very clever hint that Roald Dahl has left for us. This is near the denouement of the story when
Billy said, "The tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds" and he didn't much care for it. This quote shows
us that if you neglect your sixth sense (your instincts) you could be out of

Northanger Abbey Research Paper
While Austen mocks the gothic romance genre through Catherine's intense fascination on its dark
conditions, she simultaneously uses the setting of Northanger Abbey as a metaphor for the literal
and realistic horrors underlying a rigid and materialistic society. Initially introduced as naïve and
trusting, Catherine's time at Northanger Abbey is the setting of her Bildungsroman in which she
transforms from an impressionable reader to an independent character that is aware of the unspoken
nuances of social hierarchies. Furthermore, Northanger Abbey also serves as a figurative device in
which duplicitous and dishonest motives are concealed by an appearance of normalcy that is
accepted by society. Catherine's discovery of the discrepancy between ... Show more content on

My interest in architecture grew due to a number of reasons. Apart from the fact that studying
architecture meant getting a chance to explore new places and sites, it is also the only profession
where I could have something that I've designed, realized in real life. Growing up in a culturally rich
and diverse country like India, I've always been fascinated by how every city has it's own unique
characteristics. With further research, I realized architecture is not only about designing and
construction, but more about the manifestation and expression of the cultural needs and values of the
society. It is the most important evidence of our past and helps us to interpret and study the

Armenian Genocide Causes
What caused the Armenian Genocide? There were many reasons that could be tied to why the
Armenian Genocide happened, but there is no reason bigger than the fact that the Turkish
Government was unsatisfied with the religious state of the Armenians. The Armenians had
established their national religion as Christianity unlike Turkey who was mostly Muslim. The main
group that enforced this was called the Young Turks. The Young Turks were a group that had taken
control of Turkey. According to the United Human Rights Council, "[The Turkish Government]
exploited the religious, cultural, economic and political differences between Turks and Armenians so
that the average Turk came to regard Armenians as strangers among them." It started with the

so much more than Armenians that Armenians were turned into pariahs or outcasts. According to

persecution of Armenian citizens was a regular occurrence and Armenians were often scapegoated
for the Ottoman Empire's problems." The Turks continually put on anti–Armenian demonstrations

but they still succeeded in the Ottoman Empire. The Young Turks also put together killing squads
called "Special Organizations" These killing squads were put in place to carry out "the liquidation of
Christian elements." Christian Armenian children were also kidnapped and converted to Islam. After
the children were converted to Islam, they were given to Turkish families. Muslim families moved

Imagine, you're working in the fields, to prepare the ground for sowing the seed. It's like 100
degrees outside, sun is burning and you are crawling all over the place. Who would you be? The
farmer? His donkey, who carries the tool along the field? Or the farmer's wife? It's actually the
farmer's wife! Do you know why? Prior to Turkey's independence, women had not any rights other
than working in the fields, keeping the household and raising the children! Eligible for Education?
Negative! Is that ethical? Are those "rights" considered to be women rights? Would this occur in a
free democratic environment? Definitely not!
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk did not accept this old fashioned Islamic mindset, which was still dictated
by the Ottoman Empire. He had the idea to lead Turkey into a democratic, independent future,

during the scene where the girls confront the latter for reporting their activities on the beach appear
very conservative. Adult characters are often shot at a high–angle, which is intended to create the
representation of them having significant authority over the younger protagonist. These are some of
the ways in which political and historical contexts are reflected through film form.
The film also utilises film form to reflect cultural contexts, as shown during the first wedding
sequence. Sound is used to emphasise how traditional Selma's wedding is–the music being played
sounds very typical of the setting, and Erol even fires gunshots during the scene (more than is
necessary, reflecting his obnoxious nature, providing key character information to the spectator in
the process). The significant prop of the gun perhaps foreshadows the scene of Ece committing
suicide as a result of Erol sexually abusing her. The gunshot SFX are louder in that scene, connoting
its importance in the narrative. This, in turn, forms the reflection of another cultural context: the fact
that killing oneself is a sin in Islam–Erol appears more angry at such an act than upset at his niece
being dead (as shown through the actor's facial expression and tone of

Guzel: Restaurant Analysis
Restaurant review: Guzel
Guzel; a fine, authentic, Turkish cuisine that offers genuine, lip–smacking dishes was established on
the 27th of June 2014 and it's only branch is located in Manama, Saqiyah Avenue. The restaurant is
named after one of Turkey's most remarkable, ambitious and loved actress 'Vallah Guzel Olmus'
which is one of the reasons why it is the only restaurant in Bahrain that truly reflects an image of
Turkey's culture. It's traditional food, eye–grabbing décor, atmosphere and the staff's outfit as well,
makes you feel as if you are in Turkey and eliminates the thousands of miles between you and the
home of grills.
From the moment you set foot in the restaurant you feel Istanbul and Bursa; its atmosphere
represents a modern Turkish tone. Guzel is well–known for its elegant, personalized yet fancy décor
which reflects a pleasant soothing ambiance. Many things around me took me back to Turkey; it's
radiant, rich and risky red coated walls that symbolize the Turkish flag, its upholstered chairs, some
printed with spectacular pictures of Turkey's most touristic sights, while others were printed with
what seems like newspapers, symbolizing some of Turkey's ancient famous history. Also, a spice
stand filled with all the seasoning one might need is placed right next to the entering, along with a
shelf of antiques, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As to Guzel, the service was not technically bad, but it wasn't so pleasant either. On some–days you
might be lucky enough to be greeted with waiters wreathed in smiles, and escorted smoothly into a
table where they start a friendly conversation and help you choose the right dish. Thus on other days
like weekends, you will be greeted with cheesy, unpleasant smiles reflecting an impatient annoyed
staff, serving food after what seemed like a decade since we ordered, with facial expressions so
unappetizing that affects many customers

Billy Weather In The Landlady By Roald Dahl
In the realistical story "The LandLady" by Roald Dahl, the main character Billy Weather is going to
Bath which is a town in England, and needs a place to stay. There he decides to stay at a Bed and
Breakfast owned by a landlady. By using description and foreshadowing Roald Dahl teaches a
lesson that shows not to trust everyone, especially if it is a stranger. Trust is the central issue that
impacts Billy Weather throughout the story. When the landlady tells Billy to enter her house, Billy
went in causing more danger to himself rather than just walking away from her and saying no. For
example, Billy rings on the door bell and usually when someone rings on another person's doorbell,
it takes them a few seconds to get to the door, but as soon

Catherine's Development In Northanger Abbey
The novel Northanger Abbey was one of the first novels ever written by Jane Austen. The coming–
of–age story centers on Catherine Morland, as she accompanies her family friends to Bath, England.
As the novel unfolds we watch Catherine transform from a young naïve women to a mature adult.
Austen alludes to the lessons Catherine must experience for herself in order to reach maturity: "She
never could learn or understand anything before she was taught" (Austen 3). Austen utilizes
Catharine's maturation to a young woman to develop her theme of education and experience. Austen
stresses two elements of Catherine's Development– her friendships and the gothic novel –– to
indicate that experience is the source knowledge.

She imagines Northanger Abbey to be full of the horrors she has read about in her Gothic novels.
Her imagination gets the best of her and she believes that General Tilney had murdered his wife.
After exploring the Abbey, Catherine finds it to be an ordinary family home: "The Abbey in itself
was no more to her now than any other house" (Austen 198). She realizes that she has been gravely
mistaken and is ashamed about her feelings: "Astonishment and doubt first seized them; and a
shortly succeeding ray of common sense added some bitter emotions of shame" (169). She
recognizes that her gothic novels are not reality (Mathison 142). Catherine's disillusionment of
Northanger Abbey is a pivotal moment for her ascent into

My First Day Of School
It's the first day of school for me and my first class of 1st graders. In walks a little girl, she is
wearing a beautiful blue head scarf. Her name is Berra. While talking to her parents before her first
day of school, I know she is from Istanbul, Turkey. She moved to the United States when her father
received a job as an architect. It was important for me to know this will be her first year in school.
Children in Turkey begin to receive a free education when they 6 years old. This differs from the
U.S. because children can begin school at age 5. The Turkish tradition and culture is one with great
influence from the surrounding countries. It is located in Western Asia between Europe. Istanbul is
located between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey with a
square footage of 2,063 miles. The city holds the country's economic, cultural and historical heart.
Not every woman or girl wears a head scarf but it is up to them and their religion whether they
choose to wear it or not. It is important for me to know the most I can about my students culture and
her way of life so I can help set straight any common misconception my young students may have. I
also want to give every one of my students the best education possible. I can only teach my children
if I know who they are. I need to know what is important to each of my students and what interests
them. This means doing my research on where my student is from and discovering

Catherine Morland In Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey
The opening passage of Jane Austen's novel Northanger Abbey describes a woman by the name of
Catherine Morland , who didn't quite exemplify the idealized and admired heroine qualities most
individuals may have thought she would have displayed at an earlier age. This passage beginning
with " No one – and ending in slope at the back of the house" is composed of various literary
techniques utilized to characterize Catherine Morland's unconventional personality as an heroine.
Austen uses imagery to portray her bland physical features and appearance , detail to describe her
unremarkable proficiency, and lack of intellect , lastly the inclusion of understatements applies to
her "extraordinary" propensities and abilities as a child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morland was too plain in her physical appearance according to the speaker. Austen evokes a vivid
image of Catherine to her readers , beginning with picking at her awkward figure utilizing adjectives
to describe her estranged appearance. In this particular section of the passage Austen shifts towards
describing her skin , features , and hair using the adjective without color for skin , strong for features
, and dark for hair. The significance of the image Austen depicts of Morland reestablishes that she is
not the heroine that many people may viewed her to be. In addition to the textual evidence that her
personality was indifferent to that of an heroine , readers have the knowledge that so were her looks
as well. Her proficiency nor does her appearance depicts her as being an

her letters we see her examine a different part of the culture she experiences for example, the

were made out of stone yet they were made without windows. I can remember the very first time I

A Comparing Theme Of Frankenstein And Northanger Abbey
Theme of Frankenstein and Northanger Abbey
Have you ever thought that Frankenstein and Northanger Abbey can have the same theme? They
might be two different stories but, still be connected somehow. Frankenstein – Victor Frankenstein
took his love of books to the fullest. After going to college, he took his learning to make a monster.
Northanger Abbey – Catherine Morland was a teenager that did not have a lot of friends but she
loves to read Gothic novels. These stories has the same similarities but still has a different
understanding over the story. They both lost their best friends. They also has family that only
connects with them only sometimes.
Victor had a friend named Henry. After a friendless monster killed him, Victor, then became
friendless too. "I saw the lifeless form of Henry Clerval stretched before me." (Shelly 223) The
monster killed Henry because Victor promises to make the monster a partner. At the last moment,
Victor decided to not finish the partner. Then Victor destroys the partner and the monster gets really
mad. After you read that part of the story you should always keep in mind to always keep your
promise. If you don't something bad might happen. Henry was the only main friend to take care of
Victor when he got sick. He was his family when his main family was absent. The next paragraph is
going to connect with Catherine losing her friend Isabella but, it is not as painful as Victor.

Kemal Ataturk's Advancement At Gallipoli
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk had a large impact on the Turkish advancement at Gallipoli. His superb
strategising directed the Turkish to take the heights of Gallipoli and banish the Anzacs into the sea.
This resulted in a fundamental increase to the position of the Turkish in World War One, and
incomparable damage to the Allied forces. As a result of Kemal's intuition, intelligence and
understanding of the art of war, the Turkish made a real advancement at Gallipoli and Kemal
became a national hero.

has for Kemal's service in the war. Harvey Broadbent, Gallipoli Campaign historian, specialist in

of the Living Dead, the movie starts with two siblings, John and Barbara, driving to their father's
grave to drop off flowers. John is reluctant to be there and is eager to leave while Barbara is trying
to pray. John teases her like when they were children saying "They're coming to get you, Barbara!"
when they both see an unknown man. Barbara goes to apologize to the unknown man but it seems
he is dazed and kills John. Barbara escapes and finds herself at an empty house. In the house, she
meets Ben, who borders up to the windows after taking down 3 undead. After a bit of listening to a
radio for the current status of the state of emergency, Harry and Tom come upstairs. We learn that
two men, two women, and a child had been in the basement of the house during Barbara's and Ben's
struggle with the undead. After much argumentation on if the basement or upstairs was safer
between Harry and Ben, Harry went back downstairs to his wife and child. Tom and his wife, Judy,
stayed upstairs with Ben believing they could properly border up the windows together. After much
convincing from Helen, Harry's wife, Harry and she join the others upstairs. While listening on the

My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii
What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal
Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will
remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the
Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My
favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day,
month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see
Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now.
When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit,
which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan
Straub–Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish &
Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on
a long bus journey to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide
Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what
to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my
weekend. After a wonderful selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche, Our appetizer was a Wild

Examples Of Social Hierarchy In Northanger Abbey By Jane Ayre
Social hierarchy and the patriarchal society are explored in Jane Austen's novels. She shows us how
society and class order affected women in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Men
were deemed superior over women. There were many differences that reflect the members of a
particular social class and gender modes of conduct, upbringing, manner, education, and morality.
Austen shows the injustice of inheritance laws and the psychological vulnerability of the women in
her novels. Northanger Abbey portrays the volatility of patriarchal power.
Austen's characters in this novel disrupt gender expectations as we see Eleanor reading from history
books, Catherine does not keep a journal like most other women and Henry is knowledgeable ...

Some, like the Morlands, consider wealth as something to be conserved. Others, Isabella, links
wealth with marriage and obsesses over it. The English Society was based on social hierarchy.
Everything from the property they owned to the families they married into had an impact on their
ranking in society. Jane Austen shows class–consciousness in relation to wealth and economic
status. Edwards Copeland's, Women Writing about Money, addresses the lives of women in Jane
Austen's time and the use of money in the lives of the women we see in her novels. He makes the
relations between economic details and gender in the period of time of Austen and shows how they
had no legal access to money yet were held responsible for domestic spending. His work and

Societal Roles In Jane Eyre
Class is a social construct that society employs to compel individuals to follow conventional roles.
These societal roles are also dependent on gender as it can be seen in the two novels. In Jane Eyre
and Northanger Abbey, the authors both use the bildungsroman of two young women to illustrate the
confinements and conflicts that the protagonists face as they strive to find their own identity within
societal expectations. In Northanger Abbey, Austen writes Catherine's story in a third person
perspective. By writing in this lens, the story has a tendency to be along the lines of a fairy–tale as
Austen writes Catherine's struggle to fit into societal expectations and her own expectations. In
contrast, Jane Eyre is written in a first person narrative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narration in the novel generally makes the "most contemptible characters as those who place
undue emphasis on social station; and they come from all levels of the social ladder." (McMaster
129) This can be seen when Austen presents Catherine and Isabella's friendship as a lesson for
Catherine to not trust people too easily. Catherine realizes that Isabella is not who she thought she
was as Isabella abandons her brother for a wealthier man; through this scene, Austen illustrates the
inextricable connection between class and wealth and that wealth is the driving force in people's
actions. The author insinuates that Isabella becomes a villain in Catherine's eyes because she chose a
wealthier man over Catherine's brother. The Thorpe siblings are portrayed in a distasteful tone as
"Isabella is continually acting out a script that makes her ridiculous. At the same time, her brother,
as trapped in the stereotypes of masculinity as she is in femininity..." (Gilbert and Gubar 130). This
again brings forth the idea that social class is determined by wealth and from Catherine's perspective
are not worth associating with. Other examples include General Tilney being the central villain as he
denies the marriage between

Northanger Abbey Quotes
The Influence of Friends: A Critical analysis of Northanger Abbey
"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." Jane Austen's heroine,
Catherine Morland, learns this principle very early in the course of her adventures in Bath.
Catherine is an interesting character. She is very naive and doesn't understand a lot of things about
people, especially about reading people. Many times she is used by others around her, because she
assumes that everyone around her is a good and kind individual. The truth is, not everyone is good.
Some people have a past that have hardened their hearts and made them indifferent. Through
Catherine's interactions with Isabella Thorpe, John Thorpe, Eleanor Tilney and Henry Tilney we will

This quote by Henry Tilney shows what kind of man he is. Throughout the novel he is often
educating Catherine: teaching her how to better understand people. He is very funny and teases
Catherine many times. He is a hard character to read, though which is very ironic. How he can teach
people to read others while they in turn cannot read him? This is incredibly interesting and
humorous. Henry also knows a lot about novels, and muslin, and other things generally associated
with women. This may be due to the fact that he had to help raise Eleanor. Henry's relationship with
Catherine ultimately ends in their marriage. "...depend upon it therefore, that real jealousy can never
exist between them; depend upon it that no disagreement between them can be of any duration.
Their hearts are open to each other, as neither heart can be to you; they know exactly what is
required and what can be borne; and you may be certain, that one will never tease the other beyond
what is known to be pleasant" (Northanger Abbey, 173). In this quote Henry is talking to Catherine
about Isabella and his brother. But you can also conclude that this is Henry's idea for a perfect
marriage. Henry's opinion about his and Catherine's relationship could be hiding in this statement.
Ultimately, Henry's role in society is shadowed by his father. General Tilney will not allow Henry to
marry Catherine once he finds out she is penniless. Henry is expected to marry for money like his
father did. But in the end Henry refuses he fathers plan for life. This shows that Henry doesn't want
to be defined by his father. He is his own man and if wants to marry for love, he is going to. This
also shows how mannered and good Henry is. Most men in that time period would have used
Catherine's ignorance and inexperience to their

Analysis Of The Article ' What Should The U.s. Do About...
The article "What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care" by Charles Lister is about
what Charles Lister thinks the United States should do to combat ISIS. It has a prescriptive issue and
a conclusion. A prescriptive issue is a question about how the world should be. A conclusion is an
answer to the question asked by the issue that the author wants the reader to accept. Some
significant ambiguity is also present in Lister's article. Significant ambiguity is a word or statement
that is unclear, and the word's meaning affects the reader's ability to accept the conclusion. I will
prove that I have found the correct issue and conclusion and some significant ambiguity using text
from Lister's article. The issue in the article "What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we
care" by Charles Lister is "How should the United States respond to ISIS." Proof of this issue can be
found in Lister's writing. In the first paragraph he states that the United States cannot defeat ISIS
militarily. The U.S. must help improve the sociopolitical issues in the Middle East. These two
statements answer the issue I put forth. The second and third paragraphs discuss how ISIS has not
only attracted foreigners to fight in its jihad; it has also befriended the oppressed Sunni Muslims.
The Sunnis, consequently, are allowing ISIS to work freely in their territory. Paragraph three asks
the question are the Sunnis still loyal to their country, or are they only loyal to their religion

what Nanda Home expected. The popularity of Clocky and Nanda Home is a fad that the

"No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy would have supposed her born to be

  • 1. How Traditional Clothing Must Be Addressed, Along With... When looking to introduce GAP shirts in Turkey for the female market, there are many cultural considerations that must be taken into account. Traditional clothing must be addressed, along with textiles. We believe that these products will be successful due to the popularity of American style within the target market. Also, the styles and materials that the company uses already have some overlap with the type of clothing that is popular in the cities. Although there are many young individuals in the middle and upper class that idealize Western styles, shirts must still be adapted to fit into the environment and religious practices of the country. The GAP branding will remain the same, but other aspects must be changed to accommodate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turkish business practices and procedures are much different than those in U.S. and other countries, so it is crucial for GAP to be aware of business etiquette before entering this market. For the Turkish, meeting times to discuss business practices are vital. Since religion is particularly important, members are expected to be on time, and to have organized appointments and meetings around the five daily prayer times and holidays. In Turkey, business is a serious matter and is treated very formally. It is important for GAP representatives to greet Turkish members with a firm handshake and engage in small talk when entering into conversation. In the Turkish culture, if a person immediately begins discussing business, rather than getting to know their counterparts, the host may take offense to these actions and consider them rude. Additionally, individuals generally stand close during conversation and do not require as much personal space as other cultures. As a result, it is important for GAP employees, when meeting Turkish colleagues, to never back away from them so that they are not perceived as unfriendly. Further, when going through business processes, the Turkish culture is known for taking longer than most countries in negotiating, so this will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. An Inquiry into the Dilemma of the Turkish Language Essay Turkish is one of the youngest and rapidly developing languages; furthermore approximately 80 million people speak Turkish as a mother language in the world. 1928 was a very crucial year for the development of the Modern Turkish language because Latin alphabet adopted instead of Arabic script and after this transition numerous events sequentially shape the Turkish language. On the other hand, the use of contemporary the Turkish language triggers some concerns. Although the Turkish language has been searching ways out for sophisticated dilemmas since 1920's, it confronts historical, political, cultural issues and risk of losing originality, degeneration of quality and misuse in the media; as a result of this process the Turkish language is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following political policies led to marginalize official minorities such as Greeks, Armenians and Jews. They spoke different languages in the community and this situation conflicted with nationalist policies of government. Ahıska and Yenal note "Vatandaş Türkçe Konuş (Citizen Talk Turkish) campaign, posed a threat to minority groups and their native languages by attempting to marginalize them within the community." (47) This analysis and these strict prohibitions show us the intensive political pressure on the minority groups. Another vital point is the Turkish government did not recognize even the Kurdish, Arabic, Circassian tongues because of the mainstream nationalist discourse persecuted to the community. Until the liberalization period, those kinds of pressures and attrition policies densely influenced the Turkish language's evolution. In 1980's, Turgut Özal introduced imported goods as a consequence Turkish people became familiar with foreign terms and brands. As the article stated "foreign brands entered common usage, Turkish products were also outfitted with brand names borrowing foreign word."(Ahıska and Yenal 47) In the end, the Turkish language has accomplished the political interventions era. • 5. Analysis of Politics in The Republic of Turkey The book follows the author's preceding work on the two Ankara parliaments during the War of Independence and studies the parliaments of the Republic of Turkey from 1923 to 1946, roughly the time known as the single party period when the political power was monopolized by the Republican People's Party (CHP – Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası/Partisi). In his former research Demirel had given a large place to political disputes in the Turkish parliament by highlighting the actions of the fraction opposed to the group under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). The scope of his research has changed, since the parliaments he deals with were composed nearly exclusively by deputies of the single party, giving way to what Mete Tunçay has called an "unanimous democracy" (24). Nevertheless, the book is part of a historiographical current that challenges the discourse the kemalist regime has had on its proper history and insists on political contradictions in the formative processes of the early Republic. In his analysis, the author draws mostly upon the official parliamentary publication, with some references to the press and to memoirs by leading politicians. He meticulously scrutinizes the composition of the six parliaments from 1923 to 1946 and presents valuable empirical data on the deputies, like age, geographical origin, education, profession, or seniority in parliament. Demirel processes the empirical data by analyzing the transition between two parliaments, and highlighting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Turkey Research Paper The history is always a good place to start when you are writing a paper over countries. The history of Turkey is pretty interesting to talk about. During the 1300s a group of Turks also know for as the Ottomans founded a principality in Northwestern Anatolia. Which means the Ottoman created an empire and that empire soon became one of the most powerful empires in the world. With that being said later on in 1939–1945 Turkish sided with the democratic western nations during and after World War II. Now switching from history over to geography, agriculture in Turkey is widely practiced in the Northwestern and the Southwestern of Turkey. Now you notice that the Eastern part of Turkey wasn't mentioned, that is because the Eastern parts of turkey are the most mountainous parts, which tells you that it's very difficult to practice agriculture there. Now a little more about mountains are that many peaks in Turkey exceed 10,000 feet at the least. Turkey's highest point is Mt. Ararat which peaks at 16,948 feet, which is very tall compared to the "smaller" ones. Another very interesting thing about Turkey is the people and their lifestyles, you may not know but turkish lives are far from the same as American lives, the ... Research is considered important for designers because it helps them highlight the key elements and principles of design that are effective and helps them examine designs for holes or mistakes. This allows the designer to learn from other designers mistakes and learn new effective ideas. Case study is a great method of research that allows the designers to experience and visualize the spaces, and helps them learn from other designers' experiences and previous designs as well as what they chose for the space layout, materials, lighting and the like. The Turkish, Moroccan style is brought by how the designers have indicated materials from the exterior to the interior. • 13. Essay Chaucers Canterbury Tales Take any pilgrim whose tale we read and show Chaucer artfully matches the story to the teller. Of the many stories he writes the tale told by the Wife of Bath is the most verbal and for its time the most forthright exposition of the role women did not have but could have in that time period. The wife of Bath's story is fairly general a man is accused of trying to rape a woman and the sentence for this charge is to be hung. The mean pleads and pleads to be acquitted of his charge so the queen of the time says he will not be hung if he finds the answer to a certain question. The question is "What is it women most desire." He is given one year and one day to find this answer and until the day before his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Wife of Bath I see as being more the naïve, idealistic old hag. Another correlation is how sly they both are and how they like to gossip. I am pretty positive Chaucer meant for the Old Hag to be related to the Wife of Bath for the different reasons I have explained. It is still odd how the character made it into Canterbury Tales but interesting all the same; The Wife of Bath's story best describe whom she herself actually is. Chaucer's portraits of the clergy and church related position show evidence of a religious system full of corruption and hypocrisy. Examine in depth 2 or 3 of Chaucer's pilgrim portraits from the prologue, illustrate or demonstrate how the medieval church was in need of reform. The late 14th century church almost a disgrace to the meaning and reputation it was supposed to be upholding. This was not true for all of the church as is true all of Chaucer's characters were not exact remakes of their real life counterpart. The clergy (Monk and Prioress and Friar) and other church related affiliates (Summoner and Pardoner) are made out to be corrupting the church. The Friar was a member of the mendicants, who were a group that traveled from town to town supposedly helping the poor this was however not what he did. • 15. The Turkish Bath And Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres The concept of 'the gaze' in visual culture can take many forms, but generally it deals with the way in which people look at objects or subjects consciously and unconsciously. This idea can operate through the media, artwork or by simply just looking at another person. However, there has always been a sense of bias in relation to how both men and women are depicted in art. Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres' The Turkish Bath (1852–1863 illustrates the 'male gaze' and the presentation of women in a Turkish bathhouse in the 19th century whereas Sylvia Sleigh's At the Turkish Bath (1976) conveys an interpretation of the 'female gaze' with a reimagined version of Ingres' painting of the same name but uses men as the subjects in the 20th century. This essay will therefore discuss the manner in which the 'gendered gaze' functions within Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres The Turkish Bath (1852–1863) in comparison to Sylvia Sleigh's At the Turkish Bath (1976). In The Turkish Bath by Ingres, the image portrayed is one of the artist's most famous works and is intended for a male spectator. In the painting, a large group of naked women are lounging in an oriental setting of a Turkish harem, they are displayed in sensual positions which inflict a sense of erotica. To the right, women are seen caressing each other intimately as they look to the left towards someone not seen in the painting. Behind them, a woman is sat comfortably with her arms loosely crossed together whilst another does her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Social Issues In Northanger Abbey, By Jane Austen Northanger Abbey is a classic written by Jane Austen. The novel is celebrated as a literary masterpiece that deals with the English social class system, along with the social rules and it shows the results of choices made by the characters. The story follows Catherine Morland, a girl who is heavily influenced by books, but is also very naïve to the outside world. Catherine lives in the modest town of Fullerton, and her life there has been mostly very protected and sheltered from lifestyles and habits of people outside of Fullerton. The Morlands are friends with another family named the Allen's. The varying hierarchies between Catherine and Isabella and between Catherine and Henry are interesting for one to read through. The effects the social classes had on Isabella were arguably greater than any other major character in the story. She was attracted to the drama, gossip, and vigor of that lifestyle. Isabella thrived on knowing the "important" information about people in the society, and she was well–learned on other people's personal lives. The idea of having a rich and popular and important husband caught her attention more than marrying for love did. • 19. Global Opportunities for Turkey Essay Global Opportunities for Turkey The world is becoming much more connected, especially in the last few decades. The idea of being free individuals has become more important, as well as free market economies. Some ideologies have collapsed because of their antiquated offers about the political situations, yet some of them are ruling the world in the last hundred years. But if there is something certain about the whole world, it is that globalization is affecting and changing it. Turkey is located at the center of the Europe, Asia and Africa, therefore the political and economical circumstances of it are important both for the Western part and the Eastern part of the world, then, the role of the globalization is very important to Turkey. ... There are many examples as well as these two in the book, but I think that they are sufficient to explain that the 'combining' situation more effectively, that is one of the fundamentals of globalization. Just three of four decades before, the situation of Turkey in the free market was very poor. There was no opportunity to find a product of a brand that is famous world widely. You could not buy cola, you could not buy blue jeans, you could not buy good fashioned cars, etc. You can't even taste the traditional foods of the other countries, like Italian foods or Chinese cuisine. I may give much more interesting example that in the late 1970s, nearly all of the cinemas, including the major ones in the country had closed or in fact, crashed. Maybe you may not believe but, until the closing, in every town in every city, even in the many of the villages, there were cinemas. • 21. The Banning Of The Headscarf In most countries around the world, it is not uncommon to see a woman in an article of clothing that is representative of the Muslim faith and history. This type of dress is typically worn in countries located in the Middle East. The wardrobe of a woman in these countries would contain articles such as an al–Amira, burka, or a hijab. Some women wear these clothing items for religious or traditional purposes, but others wear them solely by choice. However, there are certain countries around the world that oppose the wearing of certain Muslim–style clothing. One country in particular, Turkey, does not issue total support of the wearing of headscarves for women. In fact, the government has issued a ban on the wearing of headscarves by women in government facilitated places. The banning of the headscarf is a heavily debated subject in Turkey due to political and social beliefs of the Turkish people. Since the ban was put into existence, the Turkish people, specifically women, have felt the negative effects that have resulted from it. The headscarf is an item of clothing that is worn by Turkish women for several reasons, not solely for religious practices. The scarf has a deep history behind it, stemming from the Ottoman influence on the Middle East. Since the beginning of the headscarf wearing, the framework of the headscarf has developed into many different ideals. Different groups of women wear the item for different purposes. • 23. Literary Analysis Of Northanger Abbey Jane Austen's book, Northanger Abbey tells the tale of a young heroine, Catherine Morland coming into her adulthood in the city of Bath and later at Northanger Abbey. She learns of social standards, friendship, love, and dishonesty all of which are written in the books she loves so dearly. The last paragraph of the work finishes the satire with extreme cliched points that represent the gothic novel to a tee. Throughout the novel, Jane Austen uses satire to make fun of the classical gothic novel with the cliched points such as love at first sight, a man coming to save the day, and of course a mysterious abbey that holds all the spooks and scares an 18–year–old girl could wish for. But alas, the Northanger Abbey is nothing of the sort, rather it is a modernized structure with only pieces of the mysterious that it had been before. Catherine, starved of mystery, even tries to create a horror story of General Tinely murdering his wife, or later keeping her captive in the dungeon, all of which are disproven by our hero, Henry Tinely. The humor in the novel is shown through the actions and dialogue of our beloved characters. Catherine is rather ignorant when it comes to social cues such as Isabella's constant flirting and desire of attention, not just from the opposite sex but rather Catherine as well. Our heroine was blinded by happiness and sisterhood to see what the reader saw all along, Isabella was lying, gold digger with a pretty smile and goddess complex. A part of the humor in Catherine's ignorance lies in the double meaning comments Isabella makes that go over her poor head and when she finally realizes Isabella's true motives towards the end of the novel: Money. There is a reference to the deadly sins throughout the novel. While there are certain sins such as greed and pride that can summarize the majority of novel, there is at least one character that reprensts each sin. Mrs. Allen has an obsession where clothing allowing her to represent gluttony. When directed towards his children, General Tinely shows anger. Henry, our beloved hero is not one to be humble and tends to know a little bit about everything while taking pride in believing he is better than others. Greed could be given to any of the ... • 27. Migration of Turkic Tribes Migration is the movement of people from one place to another to settle and live in the new area. Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 – The Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration. 2010). In the ancient times the number of moving people was little, but the causes were approximately the same. Especially, migration of ancient Turks had a significant role in formulation of world civilizations. Their migration periods cover several thousand years. The most famous migration stage of Turks was in the II–VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes migrated and spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant cause of Turkic migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of crisis and famine in their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in different periods. Living in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to find fruitful lands. Especially, during the Migration Period, in 395, Huns (Turks) moved to Europe because of famine. Moreover, some Turkic groups migrated to wide steppes in order to find and extend their pastures. While the amount of people and cattle were increasing, it was difficult to accommodate animals with pastures. It started out normally as a young man by the name of Billy Weaver entered the city of Bath, but as he poked his nose around a bit too much, he was never heard from again. Roald Dahl's twisted story "The LandLady" is not your average story. We have to infer the ending of the story but Dahl does leave small hints to tell us what were the "Landlady's" intentions. Even though we have to assume what happens at the end, it's clear that the genre is interchangeable between thriller and mystery. The story is about a disturbed old lady that lures unsuspecting young men to their death. The appropriate theme for this story should be if you choose to ignore your instincts, it can have an unfortunate outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The LandLady" supports this claim; the story shows an old woman that wasn't visited very much and due to this, she went psychopathic. Roald Dahl shows us that loneliness can consume anyone regardless of the gender and age; like when she started doing unspeakable things just to get company. Even though she was alone this doesn't give her a reason for taking the lives of young men, but loneliness took over her mind so she couldn't stop. Billy started to stereotype the old lady which lead him to keep his guard down. He did not consider his instincts at all so the end result was an unfortunate outcome for him. We know that this story doesn't have a Disney ending because of this very clever hint that Roald Dahl has left for us. This is near the denouement of the story when Billy said, "The tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds" and he didn't much care for it. • 31. Northanger Abbey Research Paper While Austen mocks the gothic romance genre through Catherine's intense fascination on its dark conditions, she simultaneously uses the setting of Northanger Abbey as a metaphor for the literal and realistic horrors underlying a rigid and materialistic society. Initially introduced as naïve and trusting, Catherine's time at Northanger Abbey is the setting of her Bildungsroman in which she transforms from an impressionable reader to an independent character that is aware of the unspoken nuances of social hierarchies. Furthermore, Northanger Abbey also serves as a figurative device in which duplicitous and dishonest motives are concealed by an appearance of normalcy that is accepted by society. There were many reasons that could be tied to why the Armenian Genocide happened, but there is no reason bigger than the fact that the Turkish Government was unsatisfied with the religious state of the Armenians. It's actually the farmer's wife! Do you know why? Prior to Turkey's independence, women had not any rights other than working in the fields, keeping the household and raising the children! Eligible for Education? Negative! Is that ethical? Are those "rights" considered to be women rights? Would this occur in a free democratic environment? Definitely not! The film follows five orphaned girls residing with their Grandmother and Uncle Erol in contemporary conservative Turkey; when they are spotted socialising with a group of males on a beach, they are trained in activities such as cooking that are seen as being the role of women in Turkey. The film uses the key elements of film form in order to achieve this and reflect other cultural and historical contexts. Adult characters are often shot at a high–angle, which is intended to create the representation of them having significant authority over the younger protagonist. These are some of the ways in which political and historical contexts are reflected through film form. The film also utilises film form to reflect cultural contexts, as shown during the first wedding sequence. Sound is used to emphasise how traditional Selma's wedding is–the music being played sounds very typical of the setting, and Erol even fires gunshots during the scene (more than is necessary, reflecting his obnoxious nature, providing key character information to the spectator in the process). The significant prop of the gun perhaps foreshadows the scene of Ece committing suicide as a result of Erol sexually abusing her. The gunshot SFX are louder in that scene, connoting its importance in the narrative. • 62. My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub–Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish & Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long bus journey to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. After a wonderful selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche, Our appetizer was a Wild Mushroom Veloute with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Examples Of Social Hierarchy In Northanger Abbey By Jane Ayre Social hierarchy and the patriarchal society are explored in Jane Austen's novels. She shows us how society and class order affected women in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Men were deemed superior over women. There were many differences that reflect the members of a particular social class and gender modes of conduct, upbringing, manner, education, and morality. Austen shows the injustice of inheritance laws and the psychological vulnerability of the women in her novels. Northanger Abbey portrays the volatility of patriarchal power. Austen's characters in this novel disrupt gender expectations as we see Eleanor reading from history books, Catherine does not keep a journal like most other women and Henry is knowledgeable ... The English Society was based on social hierarchy. Everything from the property they owned to the families they married into had an impact on their ranking in society. Jane Austen shows class–consciousness in relation to wealth and economic status. Edwards Copeland's, Women Writing about Money, addresses the lives of women in Jane Austen's time and the use of money in the lives of the women we see in her novels. He makes the relations between economic details and gender in the period of time of Austen and shows how they had no legal access to money yet were held responsible for domestic spending. • 66. Societal Roles In Jane Eyre Class is a social construct that society employs to compel individuals to follow conventional roles. These societal roles are also dependent on gender as it can be seen in the two novels. In Jane Eyre and Northanger Abbey, the authors both use the bildungsroman of two young women to illustrate the confinements and conflicts that the protagonists face as they strive to find their own identity within societal expectations. In Northanger Abbey, Austen writes Catherine's story in a third person perspective. By writing in this lens, the story has a tendency to be along the lines of a fairy–tale as Austen writes Catherine's struggle to fit into societal expectations and her own expectations. In contrast, Jane Eyre is written in a first person narrative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narration in the novel generally makes the "most contemptible characters as those who place undue emphasis on social station; and they come from all levels of the social ladder." (McMaster 129) This can be seen when Austen presents Catherine and Isabella's friendship as a lesson for Catherine to not trust people too easily. Catherine realizes that Isabella is not who she thought she was as Isabella abandons her brother for a wealthier man; through this scene, Austen illustrates the inextricable connection between class and wealth and that wealth is the driving force in people's actions. The author insinuates that Isabella becomes a villain in Catherine's eyes because she chose a wealthier man over Catherine's brother. The Thorpe siblings are portrayed in a distasteful tone as "Isabella is continually acting out a script that makes her ridiculous. At the same time, her brother, as trapped in the stereotypes of masculinity as she is in femininity..." (Gilbert and Gubar 130). This again brings forth the idea that social class is determined by wealth and from Catherine's perspective are not worth associating with. Other examples include General Tilney being the central villain as he denies the marriage between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Northanger Abbey Quotes The Influence of Friends: A Critical analysis of Northanger Abbey "Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." Jane Austen's heroine, Catherine Morland, learns this principle very early in the course of her adventures in Bath. Catherine is an interesting character. She is very naive and doesn't understand a lot of things about people, especially about reading people. Many times she is used by others around her, because she assumes that everyone around her is a good and kind individual. The truth is, not everyone is good. Some people have a past that have hardened their hearts and made them indifferent. Through Catherine's interactions with Isabella Thorpe, John Thorpe, Eleanor Tilney and Henry Tilney we will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote by Henry Tilney shows what kind of man he is. Throughout the novel he is often educating Catherine: teaching her how to better understand people. He is very funny and teases Catherine many times. He is a hard character to read, though which is very ironic. How he can teach people to read others while they in turn cannot read him? This is incredibly interesting and humorous. Henry also knows a lot about novels, and muslin, and other things generally associated with women. This may be due to the fact that he had to help raise Eleanor. Henry's relationship with Catherine ultimately ends in their marriage. "...depend upon it therefore, that real jealousy can never exist between them; depend upon it that no disagreement between them can be of any duration. Their hearts are open to each other, as neither heart can be to you; they know exactly what is required and what can be borne; and you may be certain, that one will never tease the other beyond what is known to be pleasant" (Northanger Abbey, 173). In this quote Henry is talking to Catherine about Isabella and his brother. But you can also conclude that this is Henry's idea for a perfect marriage. Henry's opinion about his and Catherine's relationship could be hiding in this statement. Ultimately, Henry's role in society is shadowed by his father. General Tilney will not allow Henry to marry Catherine once he finds out she is penniless. Henry is expected to marry for money like his father did. But in the end Henry refuses he fathers plan for life. This shows that Henry doesn't want to be defined by his father. He is his own man and if wants to marry for love, he is going to. This also shows how mannered and good Henry is. Most men in that time period would have used Catherine's ignorance and inexperience to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show Sunnis we care" by Charles Lister is about what Charles Lister thinks the United States should do to combat ISIS. It has a prescriptive issue and a conclusion. A prescriptive issue is a question about how the world should be. A conclusion is an answer to the question asked by the issue that the author wants the reader to accept. Some significant ambiguity is also present in Lister's article. Significant ambiguity is a word or statement that is unclear, and the word's meaning affects the reader's ability to accept the conclusion. I will prove that I have found the correct issue and conclusion and some significant ambiguity using text from Lister's article. The issue in the article "What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care" by Charles Lister is "How should the United States respond to ISIS." Proof of this issue can be found in Lister's writing. In the first paragraph he states that the United States cannot defeat ISIS militarily. The U.S. must help improve the sociopolitical issues in the Middle East. These two statements answer the issue I put forth. The second and third paragraphs discuss how ISIS has not only attracted foreigners to fight in its jihad; it has also befriended the oppressed Sunni Muslims. The Sunnis, consequently, are allowing ISIS to work freely in their territory. Paragraph three asks the question are the Sunnis still loyal to their country, or are they only loyal to their religion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the first sentence of Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austin. This is probably one of the best first sentences I have ever read. The first sentence sets the scene and with this as the first sentence it definitely sets the scene! This first sentences sets the scene for two ideas, the first is that Catherine is going to become a Heroine, and the second is that she is an unlikely one at that. Her dad is a clergymen and her mom stays home and takes care of the ten children. Her family comes from modest wealth but she isn't the most common girl you would find. Unlike other ...
