students now consistently going straight to college after high school, state universities should be free
to state residents since we have public high schools. In Kalamazoo, Michigan, students who attend
high school in Kalamazoo starting in ninth grade, can have from sixty–five to one hundred percent
of their tuition covered (Teicher). This is known as "The Promise." The Promise guarantees any
student from Kalamazoo a scholarship that pays either a majority or all of their tuition (Teicher).
This scholarship can be used for any state school, fifteen private schools, and other state schools
around the United States that are less than the highest tuition in Michigan (Teicher). Since The
Promise's first wave of scholarships, there has been definite improvements in college attendance.
For black students, there has been a three percent rise in college attendance and overall forty–eight
percent of scholarship recipients graduate college (Teicher). While this has shown an impact, there
certainly are other factors that lead to the fifty–two percent that do not graduate, such as not being

The basic premise for the piece is built around a night down at the local pub. It focuses on many
issues associated with and around the working class man around the time of Thatcher's Britain.
During the 1980's the accepted Patriarchal society was starting to diminish. Women started to take
up a larger role in the household and formulate strong opinions for themselves to move away of its
traditional 20th century span. This piece explores the notions of these working class men, how men
interact and express emotion to one and other and popular culture of the 1980's.
As a viewer the piece can feel at times like a fly–on–the–wall documentary following and depicting
the lives of these 'average' stereotypical men on an emotional journey on a night at the Pub. Issues
such as homophobia, Pub culture, sex, voyeurism, violence and the football culture of the time are
all conveyed throughout the piece making the whole an eclectic mix of themes and issues of which
people can relate. The movement in the piece is more stylised and physical theatre than "clearing the

There are a lot of pedestrian gestures built into the choreography. Newson has tried to make the
piece seem as close to real life as possible without getting to the stage where it is just viewed as a

Growing up in a small town in Northeast Vermont, there isn't much of anything. The economy is
poor, there isn't many jobs, and it's cold. My hometown is similar to the made up town of Catamount
in the novel, Continental Drift, by Russell Banks. I saw my family in likeness to the Dubois's. My
mom stayed home with us kids until we needed extra cash so she began to waitress. My dad got one
of the better jobs at the new correctional facility a town over. Life is pretty stale and bleak in places
like this. Almost everyone you meet is an alcoholic, on H, or hungry. For me, I was fortunate to have
a better life. Although I never really saw my dad since he was working 16 hours a day, my mom was
always around providing support. I always had food on the table and clothes on my body. I was self
aware enough of as a kid to realize that for most of my friends at school, that wasn't a reality. It's no
lie that Vermont is one of the whitest states in America, and my area of the state was no expectation.

This paper discussed the life of Herbert Spencer (Spencer) and his contributions to the field of
Sociology found from print (textbook) and non–print sources (online). Each article touched base on
Spencer's life, but each described it differently. Over all, the article discussed how Spencer was
homeschooled and raised by his father and uncle (Delaney, 2003) and how he was the founder of
social Darwinism and how he "coined the term 'survival of the fittest,'" (Ferris, K., & Stein, J., 2014,
p. 21). Spencer's major books that he has written are in this paper as well. This paper also discusses
how my own personal thoughts were awakened by his theoretical concept of social Darwinism.

After studying for five long years at Berlin University, Marx graduated in the spring of 1841 with a
doctorate in philosophy. Following graduation, Marx got involved in journalism. In 1842, some
radical bourgeois in the Rhineland (Cologne) founded a paper in, "opposition to the Prussian
government, called the Rheinische Zeitung." 4 Marx was asked to come and help work on the paper,
and in October of 1842. He became the editor–in–chief of the paper and moved to Cologne. The

School uniforms have both negative and positive feedback. Some view it as promoting conformity,
or taking away a student's individuality. It is always a fear to both parents and students to have the
liberties promised to them striped away just because of their age or for the sake of being educated.
This is why many families took these cases to court on the behalf of the minor in their custody.
Others tend to view it as a way to make things better for students. They want to enforce that equality
but at the same time embrace differences. They want uniforms to decrease judgment and
discrimination among students. They want student to behave according to societies standards. They
don't want any malice or jealousy due to a few differences. They want the uniform to keep things
orderly.

Caroline Chrisolm was a great Australian Catholic. She always took action if she saw inequality
between people. Many people agreed that if Australia was to have another canonised saint it would
be Caroline Chrisolm. Chrisom was born on 30 May 1808, at Northampton in the United Kingdom.
Chrisom and her husband Archibald Chisholm first travelled to India in 1832 where she was sent to
Madras (present day Chennai) where she founded the education institute for the Daughters of
European Soldiers. Soon the Chisholm's decided to go to Sydney, Australia, they went on the
Emerald Isle on the 15th of September 1838 and settled in Winsor with her three sons. Chrisolm met
every immigrant that came to Sydney. She helped immigrants and sheltered many of them in her
home. In January 1841 she met the Governor and Lady Gipps and the Sydney Herald with a plan for
a girls' home. Facing discouragement, she however, convinced Lady Gipps that she was a
humanitarian. Chrisolm's next step was to return to England where she established the Family
Colonisation Loan Society. This loan provided money needed by migrant families to travel to
Australia. The society also helped the new arrivals in Australia to find jobs. Chrisolm died on the 25

On Thursday, April 21, 2016, I attended a concert of the MGA Chamber Singers, along with about
fifty to seventy–five other attendees. The 27 members of the MGA Chamber Singers, along with
director Rebecca Lanning and pianists Gail Pollock and Tom Rule presented their musical ensemble
at 7:30 P.M. in the Arts Complex Rehearsal Hall on the Macon Campus of Middle Georgia State
University. They presented twenty–one different compositions with a broad range of composers,
including John Coates Jr., Aaron Copeland, Robert Schumann, John Rutter, and Franz Shubert. To
begin the concert, the Chamber Singers sang three Norwegian Folk Songs: "Sulla Lulla," "The Night
Bird," and "Goatherd's Song." All are written by John Coates Jr. John Coates Jr., born in 1938,
began "playing piano quite young and studied at Mannes College of Music and the Dalcroze School

In 1917, he was hired by the Lloyds Bank in London where he dealt with the foreign accounts.
While he was working in the bank, he continued to write book reviews and lecture at different
colleges. After working a good portion of his life , Eliot left the bank in 1925 and joined the
publishing firm Faber and Gwyer where he was made its director in later years. In 1927 Eliot
decided to become a British citizen, and during this time Eliot started to realize that his marriage
was unhappy and decided he could no longer withstand the stress. Eliot was offered the Charles
Eliot Norton professorship by Harvard University in 1932 at just the right time, and took this chance
to leave his wife in England. In 1933 he returned to London to get an official separation, Vivienne
passed away in 1947 after a long treatment in a mental hospital of London. Ten short years later
Eliot would remarry to a beautiful bride; his previous secretary at Faber and Gwyer. He married
Esme Valerie Fletcher, a girl much younger than him, on 10 January 1957 in a secret ceremony.
Fletcher was nearly 40 years younger than Eliot at the time of their marriage.
Once Eliot had gotten his foothold in the literary world with the help of Ezra Pound, the poet
seemingly found his style, writing and publishing several of the greatest literary works of all time.
