2. Dark Times- The Weekend
Narrative
A sound of a gun shot starts the video with police sirens on a pitch-black
screen. Starts with me (Performer) walking down street, portraying a narrative
enigma to the audience.
Flash backs to the breakup and arguing, gradually establishing more of a
story for the viewer. The flashbacks tell the story in reverse so the audience
think I’m the antagonist with added sounds of police sirens in the background.
This adds to the effect of misjudging the protagonist, leading him (me) to be
the victim of a harsh breakup whereby he has been hurt physically by being
shot.
The chorus will be when the dancing shots come in, illustrating the characters
mood and thoughts throughout the video and what expressions he is
portraying to the audience.
The video will conclude in me falling to my knees and then eventually dying in
a pool of blood whilst police sirens are heard in the background as an added
sound effect in the diegesis.
3. Shots
Slow motion in some dance shots, for example a slow motion/ speed ramped
backflip would be an interesting effect for the viewer as well as complementing the
dynamics of the music itself.
Establishing shots after the gun shot intro to set the scene- rough, urban areas.
Close ups, long shots, medium shots- of me walking down the street- my face wont
be seen until the artist starts singing so close ups of my feet walking and my
clothes to illustrate my character.
Close ups and fast paced editing for dance shots to make the dancing seem fluent.
4. Lighting
Low key lighting for the dance shots to highlight the movement more than the
performance- the performance side is me walking down the street holding my
stomach.
Walking down the street would be filmed at sunset with some artificial light to light
up my face on screen. The sunset time works well as there is some light and dark
contrasts to be seen on camera, depicting the darkness of the song and that as the
sun goes down, I’m dying too.
Flashbacks will be in a different, subtle filter, not too intense which would make the
video seem tacky.
5. Mise-En-Scene
Walking down the street- black jeans, black trainers, with a plain white t-shirt. Blood
on belly and close up shots of back of the t-shirt which will have blood dispersing
where the bullet shot through. Hair waxed and light foundation on face.
Dancing- black slim trackies with a black t-shirt. Bare feet. Hair waxed and light
foundation on face.
Flashbacks- Blue jeans, white t-shirt, grey hoodie. Hair waxed and light foundation
on face.
6. Location
Windsor, Wraysbury- street sections
Windsor Leisure Centre dance studios or Windsor boys school dance studio
7. Ancillary
Album Title- Illuminate- meaning to light up, contrasting with the song Dark Times which
will be the albums ‘hit song’. The songs for this album will be linked to life being dark and
light.
Digipak- 6 panel with CD placed on right panel. A couple of pictures from the music video
of me dancing silhouetted to make the CD look professional and buyable visually. CD will
have the album title on with my rebranded artists name that is still being invented. The
digipak will be quite plain and simple like this but with more pictures
Magazine- Advertisement will have a picture (will decide what picture- would be of the
artists image) and star ratings of the album, with my rebranded name on, and album
name. It will also have Dark Times, being the imperative song of the album.
As the album is about light vs dark, the two main colours should be black and white, as
shown below:
