2. Foals – My Number
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRR_pvZcu-o
This music video has a cross over of
performance and narrative in it, following a
main character of whom is trying to get into a
foals concert. I really like the lighting of the
video and I think it creates a really psychedelic
feel to the video. Another strong point about
this video is the camera angles used as they
diversify from close ups to panning medium
shots, this helps to make the video more
interesting. This leads into the mirror and
blurred effects which really enhance certain
stages of the song in faster, more up beat
sections. I also think that the slightly
humorous aspect at the end of the video (with
the character outside watching the 3 girls
dance) helps to make the video almost
relatable and get a message across, this would
be quite a satisfying thing to achieve in my own
music video.
3. The Drums - Let’s Go Surfing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkQrJ3SVXko
In comparison to the foals music video this follows
the generic cheesy pop video but they have done it in
a way that let’s the audience that they are taking the
mickey out of themselves. I like how this video
captures the band members running towards the
camera, this would be a technique that I will want to
use in my own music video. The video includes
elements of performance such as lip synching and
instrument playing- the way they have used a stop
frame to make the band members hold and play the
instruments in the next frame is very clever and
almost humorous which fits in with the theme of the
video.
4. The Avalanches - 'Since I Left You'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpqm-05R2Jk
The music video for The Avalanches- ‘Since I Left You’
follows genres of performance and narrative
throughout the duration of the video. It starts with a
long shot of two minors in black and white then as
they hear music they go to investigate- they locate the
music and the video changes from black and white
into colour. I think the idea of tones and colouring of
the shots to create an effect would be useful in my
own video to show the audience a change in the
situation. The performance element of the video
shows one minor with two dancers performing to the
song. Towards the end of the song and video it shows
an older version of one minor speaking about losing
the other, this relates back to the narrative side of the
music video.
