5. Drums of Death, Confirm
I have emailed the head of ‘Civil Music’, I sent him this:
“Hello Matt,
My name's Jordan Blackwell and I'm a student at Worcester Sixth Form
College, I've been listening to Drums of Death for a while now and as part
of my media course we have to select an artist and a song to make our
own unofficial music video for to show certain technological skills, I'd really
be interested in doing a song by Drums of Death for my coursework, I
haven't decided on which song, maybe you have an idea of which one?
however I'd like to be on the 'Generation Hexed' album as it has lyrics that
I would have to sync with my video. So I have e-mailed you to ask
permission really and that I'd really appreciate it.
Also, keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing from you and
more music from them.
Kind Regards,
Jordan Blackwell”
His Reply:
Hi Jord,
Thanks for the email.
I have no problem with you using some music for a video but we would
prefer if you do it with his more recent material.......such as life in the
machine which also has vocals
Cheers

6. ‘Life in the Machine’
The song is quite repetitive and consists of a solid beat throughout the entire piece
which gives me the idea of having a montage of shots possibly in alternative angles
I plan to film in two different locations, possibly a city district full of dim, bleached
lights and people wanting to go out for a ‘good time’ and a desolate
area, woodland, lake or something similar. This will give me a contrast of character
and meaning to the lyrics ‘life in the machine’

7. Music Video

This is their only official video which was filmed using a Nokia N8
phone, the low lighting and sharp fast editing is something I plan to
incorporate this into my video,
Walker Palcher – Director; Influence
Walker Palcher is a fairly unknown music video director and fits the style
of how I want to make my video. Here is an example of his most recent
work:

8. Market/Audience
• If I were to unfortunately categorise the
people that listen to Drums of Death, they’d
be around C1/B on the Jicnars scale, both
sexes and ranging from 17-40 years of age.
Which may seem like a pretty extensive
market for a small artist. I only think this
because if I were to ask people who like DOD
to fill out a basic survey on themselves and
then create a graph, there would be no so
called ‘line of best fit’
9. Production
• So taking the target audience into account and
the mix of genres that DOD carry, it will be
difficult to please every fan. Which is why a
contrasted shoot of two ‘states of mind’ may
work perfectly. The timing of the song now
comes into play.
