2. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
• Age; The demographic target audience for my music video and print productions was an age range of 14-18 years old. This is
the same age as the drummer character featured in my video, therefore the audience are interested in what the boy is
interested in/ lifestyle presented. An audience of this age would also be interested in my music video because it is made by
a young film maker ( myself) who is also 18 years old, therefore support local young film makers.
• Gender; from my feedback it seems that the audience relate to the drummer as he is the main character, therefore positions the
audience in a male perceptive. This makes the video aimed towards a male gender audience. However the super 8 filter and lost
summer memory scenes are aimed more towards a female audience.
• Ethnicity; the primary ethnicity of the audience would be white British because of the locations and cast in the video. The
drummer is white, British so an audience of the same nationality would relate to the characters and location presented.
Also the original band “The cads” is a white, British band, according to music video theorist Andrew Godwin he discuss how
the demand of record labels ( that represents the artist) it would make sense for our video to represent the cads ethnicity to
promote her as an artist.
• Media language; My potential demographic audience would have social networking sites such as Instagram and snapchat as
they would be interested in photography and the different effects/ filters used. My audience would be into music whether
its listening or playing an instrument and would be into socialising/ going out because of the memory references.
• Social class; the social class represented in my video and productions is a middle class boy, we get this impression because
of the clothing and locations used for instance the beach, the country/village roads and the performance venues. I believe
that the audience would be from a middle class background as well because of the media language references and the class
presented in the video.
• Sexuality; The sexuality of the audience is non relevant to the video as relationships and sexuality is not a topic presented,
therefore the music video applies and is suitable fro all viewers.
3. How did you carry out your research and what were the
strengths presented?
Editing/ filming: throughout filming and editing my productions and music video I asked my tutor for feedback and
advise. This included what clips I should include from filming and what filters suited the genre and style of my video
the best. When creating a draft video I showed fellow peers of the same age to what they thought on the video and
if they could suggest and improvements. A strength to this was that I was able to constantly improve my product
both media skills wise and audience too.
I created a questionnaire which I asked a mixed gender group of 7 people who were white, British and were
between the ages of 17 and 18 years old. These people were students who studied media but were also the
demographic target audience for my video. In my questionnaire I asked how old they were and what there gender
was so I could see if there were any difference in results given depending on these factors.
I created a simple questionnaire using the internet to form a survey on Google forms, I which I sent via email to my
media class and copied and pasted onto a group chat on Facebook. As strength of Using Goggle forms is that it
allowed me to create a simple and accessible questionnaire which was easy to send and for my target audience to
fill in. The site also allowed me to gain responses back easily and functionally.
4. What are the weakness to your feedback?
From my survey I gathered relevant and useful information on my target audience. However I found it difficult to
get more people to answer my questionnaire as not everyone responded to my emails and messages. I also feel as if
I should have asked a wide age selection other than 18-17 year olds as this may have created a bias collection of
data ( people saying that the film is aimed at there own age group).
The survey doesn't allow me to see who responded, therefore it is anonymise. This makes the results non bias as I
do not know who the feedback came from, therefore they can/ should say what they personally think of the video. I
did ask a few of my friends to answer my survey as they are have similar media interests/ lifestyles that were
presented in my video, However some of there comments may have not been honest as they didn’t want to
offended me.
One error with my questionnaire was that My music video was not the first object presented, and the first
questions refers to music video. This caused a little confusion to the viewers but was sorted after explaining to click
on to the next page of the questionnaire to view to video. Another error was that one question asked for your
gender and age, this was so I knew if the age and gender effected the outcomes of the questionnaire. However the
last response was mis interpreted as it stated mixed gender and an age range of 19-23 year olds, which was saying
who they thought the products were aimed for.
5. Feedback gained
When showing my tutor my music video plan and first footage filmed, he
mentioned how a motion scene was needed to drive the story along the 3 separate
selections ( the performance, memories and the practising scenes) when asking to
my audience if the three sections to the video were clear the feedback that I
gained was all supporting this, that it was clear because of how they were repeated
and that the bike acts a visual metaphor which drives the story along these three
sections.
My music video challenges narrative theorist
Tzetvan Todoivans theory on narrative
contradicts of how I have tried to create 3
sections, as he believes that all story's should
consist of a three part structure ( act 1; all in
balance, act 2; a struggle to get balance back
and then finally act 3 the new equtoruim) as I
have include three selections to my video,
however the story does not build or develop, it
the same balance throughout the video, just
different locations and scenes are formed.
6. Feedback gained
It was interesting and pleasing to find that the audience that were the most popular
were the ages of 14-18 years and 19-23 years teenagers/ young adults. This was my
ideal audience that I wanted my video to be aimed at. Therefore it is successful to
know that my desired target audience was met. It seems that the video was clearly
presented to be aimed at younger generation because when asking what the key
theme is presented in my video the youthful selection was the most poplar.
7. Overall my questionnaire has given me the feedback that I wanted, as it
matches to my demographic audience. Of a young, mixed gender
generation who inspire to live musical, and sociable lifestyles. This is
presented because of the age gender and key topics/ themes that are
presented in the video, which the results from my questionnaire
highlight.
