2. Audience
Regarding our audience I have a very clear
demographic. The ages to aim for would be the
teenage years, so between 13 and 19. We aim for the
gender of our audience to be primarily female although
at may appeal to some boys too, particularly if they are
gay or effeminate.
3. Defining audience
The subculture of our audience is quite hard to define as the artist
represents 3 different subcultures in the video. However, for the
target audience and the choice of music it would suit a very
mainstream, clean-cut demographic. This is because the audio
and visuals are bright, uplifting and well characterised. The class of
our target audience would be the working class. This is because we
don’t include a lot of expensive material items in the video, also
the music has a positive message which relates to everyone and is
not exclusive to a more privileged socio-economic class.
4. Audience feedback
Audience feedback is extremely important for media
industries as it helps them discover their target market
and supply material to them accordingly. For example,
younger audiences may be more drawn to marketing
campaigns via social media sites (Twitter, Facebook)
and YouTube as these forums have evolved with this
generation.
5. Online feedback
Incidentally, these websites are an example of Web 2.0 in the sense that
they encourage conversations and debates. The 'hashtag' feature on
Twitter allows people to find content quickly. The 'share' and 'like' features
of Facebook allows you to present content to your 'friends' that you find
interesting, important or entertaining. The YouTube comment section is also
popular for voicing opinions. I think online forums such as these are popular
as the audience feels inclined to be as honest as possible due to the
impersonal nature of the internet and the face they can conceal their
identity. Although this does pose other issues such as the infamous 'trolling'
(where purposely contentious views are voiced just to get a reaction) I
believe critique online can be more legitimate than face-to-face.
6. Our audience feedback
We asked people a range of questions in order to discover our
demographic and base our products on their demands. When we
discovered that Pop was the favorite music genre we decided to base our
products around that genre.
7. Although the dance routine was the main thing our audience expected
from a music video, I thought by focusing on the narrative and the props I
could show more creativity in the cinematography and the editing.
8. The thing our audience most expected to see on the website was a link to
the music video, which is what I included.
9. Similarly, we asked the audience what they expected from a special
edition digipak which was another convention they expected which I
adhered to.
10. Final feedback
Our final feedback for our music video has been extremely positive with
17/20 people we asked stating that they enjoyed the music video and
18/20 people claiming that they enjoyed the narrative which was our main
aim.
Comments surrounding my ancillary tasks have also been positive.
However, if I were to do it again I think I would create mock-ups of social
media profiles for the character of Ava Jackson, as social media is very
popular with my generation and that was our targeted demographic.
