Jones Blair Case Study
Jones Blair Company is a paint manufacturer that distributes paint to Texas, Oklahoma, New
Mexico, and Louisiana with its manufacturing plant based in Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW). The main
product line of the company is architectural paint with some line depth that they manufacture at their
own plant; they also offer the sundries for painting towards their end customers. The sundries
offered are not produced by the company itself but carries the Jones Blair brand logo.
The management is at a turning point where they need to make a decision about how to get more
sales out on the market and if the company is competitive enough in the current market place. They
have a strong market share in the DFW area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other half goes towards professional painters that are divided in to two subcategories with pure
professional painters that only do the paint job and the other part consists of contractors, but also
exports and government sales.
In the paint market there are three different main areas; those are architectural paint, original
equipment manufacturing (OEM) paint and special–purpose paint. Architectural paint is the
category that mostly reaches out to end costumers of the non–professional kind. The other two
categories are more aimed to find itself end up on a professional market for different purposes.
Therefore, architectural paint is often called "shelf goods" because one can find it in general purpose
stores.
The paint market in America is a 13 billion dollar industry in America over the three main sub
categories. There are three sub categories of paint with the biggest being architectural paint with a
market share of 43 percent. Right behind is OEM paint with a 35 percent market share. The smallest
market is the special–purpose paint with a 22 percent market share. The specific market Jones Blair
is distributing their products into is estimated to be an 80.0 million dollar market for architectural
paint in 1999. From this, Jones Blair has a 15% market share with sales of 12 million dollars.
Jones Blair has 40 percent of its total amount of stores with products available in the Dallas–Fort
Worth area. In this area between 1995 and 1998 the average sales for

Re: Jones–Blair Company New Marketing Efforts
Executive Summary
Mr. Barrett faces different propositions of where and how to organize corporate marketing efforts in
the architectural paint coatings market under Jones–Blair Company. Each executive has a different
proposal such as: increasing brand advertising, lowering paint prices, hiring new representative or
keeping status quo. This executive community still has not decided on which proposition to choose.
I recommend hiring a new representative in non–DFW areas.
Analysis
Jones–Blair Company, regional paint manufacturer, has successfully competed against paint
manufactures despite trends of mergers and purchases of smaller companies by major producers.

The last option to maintain current approach is safe and conservative. However, competition
increases every year and JBC must ensure that they will not be overshadowed by national
companies. Remaining in status quo only grows financially but not in volumes.

The Problem:
Need for larger market share to increase sales volume of paint gallonage, which has not changed
over the past five years.
What 's behind the symptoms?
Although margins have been maintained, sales have not increased. There is a threat of losing
consumers do to now being the highest–price paint in the service area. Therefore, Jones/Blair must
draw attention to their core competencies to leverage themselves in the marketplace.
Alternatives to Solving the Problem:
Proposal 1– What are the Pros and Cons of maintaining the Status Quo?

Walt Disney And Mary Blair
Before a film is created, various designers work from a script to capture the exact atmosphere and
tone a film needs. There are hundreds, even thousands of artwork created behind a film while only a
few will ever meet the screen. Despite that, the artwork serves another purpose; the artwork
encourages and directs storyboard artists, animators, colorists, etc. to truly finish a film. One of
those designers, those artists, according to John Canemaker, "helped Walt Disney move into a
critical phase of his own artistic journey." That artist was none other than the lovely Mary Blair. Her
modernist style and talent for pairing colors instantly became an iconic Disney trait that would
inspire later films.
Mary Robinson Blair grew up during the Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the vacation, the group would paint their observations along the streets of many cities and
villages. It was then, that Walt Disney truly fell for Mary Blair's art style and coloring skills. Walt
had described her work as "translating real life observations into pure distillations of color and
form," while Mary recalled he had also stated "Walt said that I knew about colors he had never
heard of before." Disney insisted Blair to work for him again, giving her projects like Penelope the
Time Traveller. Penelope the Time Traveller was a short animated film buried under time, but was
an important project to Blair, as working on it allowed her style to become flatter, bolder, and more
modernist. During this time, 95% of Disney footage was under government contract for training and
propaganda films, so Disney appointed Mary Blair as art director for the animated shorts to make
them less gloomy. Blair would then be appointed to doing concept art for Cinderella, in which her
artwork would become the basis for the film's overall color scheme. Other than that, a lot of
animators found it hard to work with Mary Blair's art style due to its flatness, despite Walt Disney's
personal wish to have her artwork more present in his films , while animators required a more
realistic style to work with. Mary Blair's art style would become more prominent in her next film,
Alice in Wonderland. The more creative, spontaneous tone of Alice in Wonderland was a perfect
match for Mary Blair. Her art style can be seen in the plants, patterns, color, and exaggerated
silhouettes of the Alice in Wonderland characters, especially during the "Card Match" scene within
the movie. Her final film would be Peter Pan, which also allowed Blair to get playful with
illustrating the pixies, pirates, and mermaids within the films.

The New York Times and Jayson Blair (A) “All the News...
The New York Times built its legacy around characteristics that did not represent the status quo nor
did it follow the traditional steps in reporting news to the public. Instead of putting emphasis on
reporting corruption, scandal, and extreme political views, it put importance in reporting the factual
representation of events and limited both personal views and expressions (Smeraglinolo, Wehmer, &
O'Rourke, 2007). The New York Times set guidelines to ensure its readers were getting the accurate
details of its reporting. O'Rourke (2010) states "Genuine moral standards transcend the interests of
just one or a few people. They involve doing things for the greater good of society or people at
large" (p.65). The New York Times was able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The failure in recognizing the ethical dilemmas took away their moral judgment and promoted
unwanted circumstances to occur (O'Rourke, 2010).
Recommendation
It is idea for The New York Times' Vice President of Communications, Catherine Mathis, to carry
out the communication channels, as previously operated. This will enable her to reach employees
more effectively than making significant changes. O'Rourke (2010) states "Many companies rely on
particular cultures to move day–to–day information through the organization, and to succeed in such
a business, you must adapt to the existing culture rather than try to change it or ask it to adapt to
you" (p.31). The recommendation is to continue communicating through both informal and formal
channels, such as mandatory meetings, company letters, and newspapers.
1. Mandatory meetings will provide the employees with a face–to–face approach to resolving those
problems at hand. It allows managers to be more accessible as it provides both employee and
manager with an opportunity to talk and listen to each other's complaints and ideas (O'Rourke,
2010).
2. A company letter will provide outside sources that were directly impacted by the event, with a
sincere apology and an explanation of the circumstances surrounding the incident. O'Rourke states
"Business letters, unlike memos, are primarily external

Voting Behaviour At UK Elections Is Determined More By...
'Voting behaviour at UK elections is determined more by issues of personality and image than on the
basis of policies or performance in office'. Discuss. In recent times it may be argued that personality
and image has played a huge part in the voting behaviour of the electorate in the UK. The
personality and image may refer to the personality of the party leader and how they present
themselves in their campaign. This is a short–term factor and in a time where long–term factors are
not said to play a huge role, as there is party de–alignment and a change in the class structure,
perceptions of party leadership can play a huge role in determining voting behaviour. It may always
have been recognised as a factor but now its influence may have ... Show more content on

In 1997, Labour were very much in touch with the electorate and focused on salient issues, whereas
the conservatives focused on issues such as trade unions and devolution which were not deemed as
salient. This benefitted Labour as they gained a huge win at this election and rather than personality
playing a huge part, it may have been their policies. Another contributing factor at this election may
have been performance in office, which in the above statement is not seen as important as
personality and image. However, performance in office may have been extremely detrimental for the
conservatives in 1997 because of their crisis in 1992. This focuses on the retrospective model, as
people saw the Conservatives as incompetent in handling the economy because of Black Wednesday
in September 1992. The Conservatives and especially Noramnt Lamont, Chancellor of the
Exchequer, were to blame for the crisis that saw the pound forced out of the ERM. This didn't help
at the 1997 general election where they did extremely badly in a huge Labour win. Personality and
image does play a huge part in voting behaviour and will continue to do so in 2015, where Ed
Milliband's leadership will come into question and could affect Labour's chances a lot. However, it
is still not enough to suggest that personality and image are larger determinants in voting behaviour
than on the basis of policies or performance in office. It is difficult to see

Blair Waldorf Research Paper
Sometimes, there are characters from television shows, movies, or literature that people may aspire
to be or simply wish they were. This may be because of the characters' traits or because of the
opportunities these characters have. For me, if there were any fictional character I would love to be,
it would be Blair Waldorf. Blair is a girl from the television show, Gossip Girl, who starts off as a
teenager and ends the show in her early 20s, all the while maintaining her status in New York's
Upper East Side. Blair Waldorf has medium length brown hair throughout the course of the show. At
a stature of about 5'2", she has a delicate, petite frame. Appropriately, her personal style is feminine,
preppy, and chic. During the beginning to the middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, the reason I'd like to be Blair is she accomplishes everything she wants to, even while
dealing with or being the center of scandals. She maintains friendships and gets close to her family,
despite being forced to endure draining trials of friendship and true tests that could ultimately tear
families apart. As a result of her powerful determination, after being set back after drama with a
teacher at her high school ensued, she gets her way and finds herself accepted into an Ivy League
school, Columbia University. When her mother decides to pass on the Waldorf fashion company,
Waldorf Designs, to Blair, she perseveres and releases her own personalized line, undeterred by
mishaps regarding production of clothing, competing designers, and questions about ownership. To
top it off, she and her on–and–off boyfriend/fiance finally tie the knot in the last episode,
notwithstanding their formerly rocky relationship, and within five years of kicking off their
matrimony, they have a child named Henry. Really, Blair seemingly lives happily ever after, which
is a very desirable ending, at least to

Analysis Of Gossip Girl
The television series Gossip Girl encompasses many aspects of current day society. Based off the
popular book series, the show follows Manhattan's elite, and showcases the lives of the
upperclassmen teens, focusing on their relationships, school lives and careers. When looking at
Gossip Girl from a sociological perspective, there's many hidden themes that are brought to light.
While also showcasing some controversial issues, Gossip Girl reflects many themes that can been
seen in society. Contrary to some belief this series displays a substantial amount of feminism, with
the use of powerful female characters, but lacks the accurate representation of social class and
contains numerous gender stereotypes.
In addition to the fact that the show largely surrounds the leading female protagonists, Blair Waldorf
and Serena van der Woodsen, there is a great deal of feminism being shown by these Upper East
Side women. To begin with, Blair Waldorf can be seen as the shows most driven and head strong
female, who goes about her life in an unabashedly feminist way. She demonstrates female power
and dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank. Despite her
social standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being handed to her
and chooses to work for her goals. This can be shown in both the books and the television series, as
Blair strives to get a 4.0 grade point average, enrolls herself in AP classes, partakes in

BATTLE OF BLAIR MOUNTAIN
Terry M. Deener
West Virginia History HIST225
March 10, 2013
In the early 20th Century, West Virginia was a place where coal barons held immense power. Coal
companies owned towns, mayors and governors. Miners were forced to live on coal camps and rent
houses from them, as well as purchase all of their coal and other items required to survive from the
companies. With this control, mining families where forced to live and work in brutal conditions. In
1921, after a generation of violent suppression, miners erupted in the largest class war in US history.
For 5 days miners fought the coal barons, over 1 million rounds of ammunition were fired, this is
known as the Battle of Blair Mountain.

This enraged the miners and they began to exit the mines and take arms.
Miners along the Little Coal River were among the first to militarize, and began to patrol and the
guard the area. Sheriff Don Chafin sent his troopers from Logan County to Little Coal River area.
The troopers were quickly overthrown, apprehended, disarmed, and sent back running from the
miners. Frank Keeney and Fred Mooney, the leaders of the UMWA District 17, called a rally at the
state capitol in Charleston. The two met with Governor Ephraim Morgan, and presented him with a
petition spelling out the miners' demands. Governor Morgan rejected the miners demands which
caused the miners to become more restless. Miners began to talk about organizing a march on
Mingo to free the confined miners, end martial law, and organize the county; unfortunately, the only
things standing in their way were Blair Mountain, Logan County, and Sheriff Don Chafin.
The first altercations occurred on August 25, 1921. The majority of miners were still 15 miles away.
President Warren Harding threatened to send in federal troops and Army Martin MB–1 bombers.
After a long discussion in the town of Madison, agreements were made and miners were convinced
to go home. Chafin although did not expect to sit quietly after assembling his private army, he
wanted a battle to end union attempts at organizing Logan County

Brand image is important to consumers and television ads are a great way to get their name out.
Most of this population is aware of this product and only some of this population would purchase it.
c) Hire an additional sales representative
Hiring an additional sales representative will allow Jones Blair to focus on new markets. These
markets should be outside of the DFW area and allow for new cities and states to recognize Jones
Blair. d) Do Nothing (Status Quo)
Since Jones Blair has continually seen profits each year; they should maintain their current
marketing objectives and do nothing. Jones Blair has done an excellent job of this in the past by
watching the margins and controlling costs. By doing nothing, the company will not need to spend
any additional money. e)
Alternative Recommendations a.) Cut price by 20%
In 2004 architectural product sales volume was $12,000,000. Jones Blair has a current net profit of
$1.14 million, and to stay profitable it must maintain this amount.
$12,000,000*.35= $4,200,000
If Jones Blair reduced its price by 20% the contribution margin will drop to 15%.
($12,000,000)*.15 = ($1,800,000)
If the company drops the price by 20% the company will see a 33% increase in sales.
($1,800,000 * .33) =$4,200,000 ($594,000)
STRENGTHS: Jones Blair will sell more products, because it will be able to compete with its

The Blair Witch Project Essay
A Critical Reflection of The Blair Witch Project
Perhaps one of the most influential modern horror films, The Blair Witch Project pioneered an
entirely new subgenre of horror films in 1999– the found footage film. The Blair Witch Project uses
simple yet effective set design and dream like sound editing to highlight the gradual mental decay of
main character, Heather Donahue over the course of the story to illustrate a dramatic shift in the
orientation. This, along with the first hand experience offered by point of view camera positioning
allows the audience to experience the terror associated with horror and the demonic alongside the
main characters as the film progresses As the main characters– Heather Donahue, Josh Leonard, and
Mike Williams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the scenes rely on the setting rather than any type of design or manipulation, allowing the
naturally frightening location of the secluded forest to contribute to the terror felt by both the
characters and the audience. When scene design is heavily incorporated, such as in the final scene in
the witch's house, the design is expressed through subtleties that have been established earlier in the
film. Symbols and children's handprints on the walls of the decaying house imply that the house that
Mike and Heather find themselves in during the last scene is in fact the house that the children from
the townspeople's stories were killed in.
The first person point of view camera angle also allows the audience to experience the strange and
terrifying events that take place within the film by allowing them to adopt the perspective of the
characters in a way that cannot be accomplished with traditional film making techniques. This
adoption of perspective allows the audience to identify with the characters on a personal level,
making them open to the notions of orientations and ideas that seem ridiculous, such as continuing
to film regardless of the terrifying events that take

but without the evidence it could not be proven and he would not have just cause, but the panel

The panel initially divides evenly. After a stormy two–hour meeting with Alastair Campbell in
closed session, Christine de Pisan leaves in tears and the panel votes 3–0 that Tony Blair did have
Just Cause". The third on the list is 'Right Intentions' meaning that there was nothing to gain out of
this, it wasn't for personal reasons, and going into this there was good intentions. "The panel
members are on record as believing that the aim of any war must be the achievement of peace and of
the just cause –not revenge, the desire for plunder or the suffering of destruction of the people on the
other side". Due to the fact that Tony did not gain anything nor was there evidence to prove self–
intentions he had to have the right intentions. "Likely outcome: In the absence of any evidence of
self–interested motives, the panel would probably vote that Tony Blair must've had the right
intentions". The fourth on the list is 'Proportionality' meaning the good had to outweigh the bad.

Ultimately, the privileged Upper East Side lifestyle is a metaphor for the American Dream. While
the show presents this lifestyle as the goal, it also suggest that like the modern day American Dream,
it is unattainable. While Gossip Girl was intended to mock immoral societal values, the plot actually
romanticizes materialism, ego and moral corruption to create drama and viewer interest. The
character of Blair Waldorf exemplifies consumerism and obsession with material items. Blair is
known as the Queen Bee of the Upper East Side. She is intelligent and talented but competitive,
egotistical, and ruthless. She defines herself by others' perceptions of her. Most of all she is known
for her fashion, everything she wears is articulately planning and exceedingly pricey. As she says,
"Fashion knows not of comfort. All that matters is the face that you show the world". Although her
shopping exploits would be considered excession by many normal Americans, as sociology
professor Evan Cooper points out, the show never condemns Blair for being frivolous and
extravagant. The continuous reference to and display of designer items, expensive vacations, luxury
cars and parties contributes a "brand–name" culture (Pattee). Media texts such as TV shows are
known as unofficial socializing agents. Media should not shape our societal values and view of the

The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent...
The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent Newspapers need to aim at a specific
corner of the market to be successful. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership
consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers who
want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can obtain
large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. Therefore the paper needs to

It also uses the symbol of an eagle which conveys an image of class and elegance as well as wisdom

as they are trying to achieve different aims. The Mail's headline of 'THE BLAIR MUTINY' was
designed to give a dramatic look to the page as it is in a huge, bold text. It is also a WOB (white on
black) which is only used when it is a serious and important issue. It uses the word 'Mutiny' which
adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a dramatic. The use of 'Blair
Mutiny' is clever as it mimics 'The Cain Mutiny' which was when the crew of Cain's ship mutinied,
just like now as Blair's 'crew', the cabinet are revolting. The Independents headline of 'Short faces
the sack over act of treachery' is much less in your face as it is printed in a much smaller print than
the Mail's and also it isn't in bold. Unlike the Mail the independent haven't used WOB (white on
black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the word 'treachery' gives it more drama and
emphasis. Although it is obvious to see that this paper is not looking to attract readers by impact and

Plagiarism: A Jayson Blair Account
Plagiarism, defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary, is "the act of using another person's words or

work for your own(Merriam–Webster). Plagiarism though seeming like a simple offense, can cause
the downfall, if not caught, of a creative person and their work. However when justice is served, and
the plagiarizer is caught, they can lose everything from their reputation to even their job. Even

Main Motives For The Invasion Of Iraq
What were the main motives for the Invasion of Iraq in 2003?
This project argues that there were many more complex reasons for Tony Blair's 2003 invasion of
Iraq, other than the war on terror, the need to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to free
the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussain as the government implied. Factors such as the
vast amounts of crude oil that the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf contains (which includes a large
part of Iraq's coast) and the need to control future oil supplies was the overall determining factor on
going to Iraq. There was also a need to stay allied with the US (which has been deeply ingrained in
UK foreign policy since the Suez Crisis of 1956) and help secure US and in turn UK military
presence in the middle east.
Methodology
Primarily, it would be imperative to establish the history of this conflict and exactly how it got to the
point of war not only from Blair's point of view but also from the other generally considered
reasons, mainly Oil and the US. Secondary sources such as 'Iraq between Occupations: Perspectives
from 1920 to the Present' (Zeidel, Baram and Rhode, 2010), 'Britain and the Middle East in the 9/11
Era' (Hollis, 2010) and 'Blair's Just War: Iraq and the Illusion of Morality' (Lee, 2011) are examined.
There are a few books that discuss the Anglo–American relationship, the best of which are; 'Blair's
Britain 1997–2007' (Seldon, 2007) and 'The Special Relationship, A Political History of Anglo–

Questions On Jones Blair Case

Jones– Blair Case
Problem/Issue
Jones–Blair is a paint company headquartered in Dallas, Texas that sells architectural paint. Jones–
Blair markets its paint to fifty counties in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and eleven
county Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan areas. Jones–Blair has branded itself as having a
high–end paint product. Increased R&D, material, and labor cost have allowed Jones–Blair to have
the highest price among competitors in its service area and still obtain a great amount of business.
Jones–Blair is focused on providing architectural paint to a market that is fifty percent segmented,
which half consists of "do it yourself" consumers and the other fifty percent spilt among
professional painters and government contracts. Jones–Blair has enjoyed dollar sales rising at an
annual rate of four percent over the past five years. Even though Jones–Blair has enjoyed a
successful rise in dollar sales, it has seen a decline in the gallon volumes in DFW areas due to a rise
in competition. Jones–Blair is aware that it is approaching the threshold in its prices. Jones–Blair is
afraid that once the threshold price is reached, then the decline in volume sales will lead to Jones–
Blair unsuccessfully meeting its sales margins. Jones–Blair needs to determine how and where to
adjust marketing efforts to raise sales volume amounts in the DFW and Non–DFW areas. Jones–
Blair currently spends approximately three percent of net

Symbolic Convergence in Gossip Girl: The Fantasy of the...
From high school girls desperately trying to be one of cool kids in school to corporate warriors
rubbing elbows for that next promotion, nearly everyone has fantasized about being a part of the "in
crowd". What is it that makes the bonds and barriers of "in crowd" so unbreakable? Through sharing
stories and reaching conclusions through discussion of those stories, members of small groups
develop a common bond that shapes their social reality. An example of this bond is prominent in the
CW's hit show, Gossip Girl, which focuses on the world of high society elite at a private high school
on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York. Circumstances in Gossip Girl show how concepts

28). The stories which create the fantasy typically consist of "common or related content", known as
a fantasy theme (Beebe & Masterson, 2009, p. 44). As members of a small group share stories or
experiences with other group members, adherence to the fantasy theme creates "a string of
connected stories that revolve around a common theme." Bormann calls this set of stories a fantasy
chain (Beebe & Masterson, 2009, p.42–44). As a fantasy theme develops, is repeated, and flourishes
it changes the group members' social reality. Bormann describes such a change as a rhetorical
vision. It is important to note that a group may have more than one rhetorical vision and they can be
reinforced through recurring media messages or other influences outside the context of the small
group itself (Griffin, 2009, p. 27–29).
Simply put, symbolic convergence occurs in groups through the sharing of stories. Group members
interpret these stories through a common fantasy. Stories with a similar topic are said to make up the
fantasy theme. A fantasy theme appears when group members respond to, rather than dismiss, a
fantasy creating a fantasy chain reaction. Use of the fantasy by group members to explain, justify, or
understand situations outside the group shows the group's rhetorical vision.

Much Ado About Nothing, By William Shakespeare
Love is never an easy concept to understand, let alone when everyone around you seems to be
figuring it out and you feel out of the loop. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, and the novel,
Pride and Prejudice, this shows to be the main plot line. These are quite dated. However, a modern
twist to this story line is also seen in the television series, Gossip Girl. It is the typical love story; the
prospective pairs can only fall in love with each other once they recognize their isolation and fight
their way towards their own happy ending. With different plots and twists, each love story stands out
in its own way and sets itself apart from the others. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, the
prospective couple is Beatrice and Benedict. Their relationship begins as merciless fighting and
teasing between both characters, also known as "the war of wits". Shakespeare made sure to make
this type of relationship prominent and important in the beginning of the play since Beatrice's first
words towards Benedick were, "I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick. Nobody
marks you." (1.1.92–94). Being around Claudio, a good friend of Benedick's, and Hero, Beatrice's
cousin, makes life for Beatrice and Benedick a bit difficult. Both Beatrice and Benedick witness as
Claudio and Hero's love story unfolds in a series of romantic events. This seems to put strain on
their own relationship because they are so closely involved with both Claudio and Hero. In a series

An extract from Arthur Marwick– "British Society Since 1945":
The fall of Labour Party: the labour government has had a very difficult time leading to the general
elections of 1979. The years between 1976–79 proved to be intense ones, filled with economic
problems, intensified with labour movements looking to rejuvenate. This led to the party changing
some of it's policies and its position changed. The changes led to a division in the party: some

The Conservatives main tactic was to hammer away at unpopularity of the government – "LABOUR

New Labour Continuation of Thatcherism
Thatcherism changed and affected not only the political landscape of Britain but also the mere social
fabric that Britain had lived by for decades. Thatcher's policies of the 1970s and 1980s would go on
to shape the nation well into the millennium.
This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997
continued the implementation of Thatcher's policies.
The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blair continued Thatcherite policies will be
explored throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will
attempt to narrow the consequences of Thatcher's policy continuation to confer whether those
policies were beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society.
It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British
political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several contradictory
explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be explained via
"a short hand description of what the Thatcher–led Conservative governments did at any one time"
or similarly it could be explained as " a popular political movement, a policy style; a form of
leadership; or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post–social democratic neo–liberal
political agenda' (Heffernan, 2001). The term Thatcherism is therefore an umbrella term that not

Gossip Girl And Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the agonizing romance between Elizabeth Bennet
and Fitzwilliam Darcy. In eighteenth century class–conscious England, wealthy families married for
money and a stable reputation. Many critics argue that people no longer marry for money but instead
for love. However, sugar mommies, daddies, and babies are more prevalent in the twenty–first
century than is publicly shown. Cecily von Ziegesar's Gossip Girl, originally chick literature turned
major drama television series, portrays the romantic struggles of Manhattan's East Side upper class.
Despite being set in the twenty–first century, Gossip Girl is arguably a more dramatic, high–quality
adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Gossip Girl, an American television drama, had six
seasons, all told by the narrator Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl runs a highly popular blog that gives the
Upper East Side adolescents little to no privacy. Serena van der Woodsen, one of the main
characters, had just returned to Manhattan for high school classes at the Constance Billard School
for Girls and St. Jude's School for Boys. Serena's best friend Blair Waldorf is "queen bee" of the
Constance Billard School for Girls, and throughout the seasons, Blair, Serena, and younger
classmates fight for the "queen bee" status. Additionally, Gossip Girl features the poorer, aspiring
writer Dan Humphrey, the "Golden Boy" Nate Archibald, the arrogant, womanizing Chuck Bass,

Essay Justifying the War the in Iraq
Justifying the War the in Iraq Early last year, the latest Gulf War broke out, and, within weeks,
British and American leaders claimed that peace would prevail: that the fighting had ended. More
than six months after the 'end of the war', soldiers, and Iraqis, are still dying. What went wrong?
Was Bush lying all along, or did he just make a mistake? I think that the answer to this question is
obvious: Bush and Blair, or 'Bliar', as anti–war campaigners call him, have lying to us all along.
Before the war, the UN vetoed the war, until such time as there was any proof that Saddam Hussein
had weapons of mass destruction. Bush and Blair, however, decided to ignore the clearly superior

quite obvious that he was just being greedy, and was doing for the money. Also, the State of Israel
has broken just as many UN laws. Has America waged war against them, in support of Palestine?
No. In fact, quite the opposite! Britain and America have been freely selling arms to Israel, knowing
that they would be used against Palestinians. (Therefore, we in Britain should, no, must boycott
Israeli and American goods (Israeli goods have a bar code beginning with 0810).) What has been
gained by this war? The answer is nothing. At least, nothing positive: At least twenty thousand Iraqi
civilians have been injured, and the Iraqi death toll is estimated to be between eight and ten
thousand! The UN's word about permission for a 'legal' war now counts for nothing: having ignored
it once, why will Britain and America bother obeying it in the future? And this war has cost billions
of dollars. Only a week and a half ago George Bush put forward another six billion dollars! And that
is English billions, not American, so that is $6,000,000,000,000! And then, having lied to us, and
gone against what, we, the population wanted, Blair invited over his 'play'mate to Britain. But, of

Tony Blair, Socialism, Liberalism And Conservatism
Currently, three prominent ideologies dominate the governing style of the world today: socialism,
liberalism and conservatism. Many political groups and leaders often follow or claim to follow a
specific ideology. On the other side of the spectrum for those who follow one ideology specific,
there are some individuals that knowingly or unknowingly that follow none and focus on practicality
of ideas. Those individuals are referred to as pragmatist. According to Encyclopædia Britannica,
pragmatism is based on the principle that emphasis on the usefulness, workability, and practicality

In Tony Blair's Socialist Manifesto (1994), he reinvents the idea of "social–ism" in order to "fit the
ideology to the world" since the economic and social interests of people are constantly evolving.
After World War II, the economy became a lot more global, the service industry grew and there has
been an increase in human rights movements as the public have been less progressive. Aligned with
the ideas of "socialism", Blair supports a concept called the "Third Way" which is based on the idea
of combining center–right economics and center–left social policies ("The Third Way", n.d).The
idea was developed by Anthony Giddens, the sociologist and director of the London School of
Economics, he argued that the reformist governments could no longer rely only on the ideas of
complete social and economic state control in the face of the forces and finances of globalization.
Therefore, Giddens proposed an idea that would support center policies, but also remain committed
to radical measures. Blair refers to the third way as his version of "socialism" which is in favor of
economic growth and entrepreneurship as well greater state intervention to improve social justice
and equality among civilians ("UK Politics: What is the Third Way," n.d.). Using the ideas of the
third way, Blair reformed the Labour Party and their ideas. Under his leadership, the Labour Party

What Is The Purpose Of The Blair Witch Project
The Blair Witch Project, shown in 1999 at the Sundance Film Festival, and later in theaters, is the
story of three student filmmakers who decide to make a documentary about "The Blair Witch" in the
woods near Burkitsville, Maryland. The film was very effective in the way it was advertised, first
through the infamous "stickmen" and missing posters, to an internet campaign increasing the rumors
that the movie was an actual documentary; if it had been advertised in any different way, it is
possible that it never would have left the festival circuit. After the screening, due to the response, the
filmmakers made a deal with Artisan Entertainment to distribute the film. The film was said to be
terrifying, and it was the first of the genre of "home–made movies", such as Paranormal Activity
(2009), as well as being one of the first movies to be mainly advertised on the internet. ... Show

The Blair Scandal Scandal
In other cases, some newspapers often have various "lines of defense" in which an article is review
on multiple times before it is ever published. It is true that in the heat of competition to get the story
first, a lot can result from it. One thing that the Times did well was their reaction towards the Blair
scandal. As it states in the SPJ code of ethics, a journalist should "admit mistakes and correct them
promptly." The Times gathered a group of journalists that went over all of Blair's past stories during
his time at the newspaper. They found dozens of stories that were falsified and it became one of the
biggest journalistic scandals. However, the important factor is that the Times rushed to correct their

One of them would be having "spot checks on randomly selected stories" (238). It would consist of
checking a story after or before publication, randomly. In fact, Nicholas Lemann, the dean of

not going to stop making charismatic maniacs [...] so it falls to the newspapers to figure out how to

mistakes, because, according to Mnookin, only one newspaper adopted such policy, the Fort Worth
Star–Telegram. They decided to perform prepublication checks on several stories every month.
Another method consists of random post–publication surveys sent to the sources that are quoted in

The most important moment in this story, especially for Orwell, is when the prisoner purposely steps
aside to avoid a puddle in his path. It was then that Orwell realized the wrongness of capital
punishment. The prisoner was a living, breathing human being whose "brain still remembered,
foresaw, reasoned – reasoned even about puddles" (Orwell, 101). After the noose is fixed around the
prisoner's neck, he began to repeatedly chant the word "Ram," which is Hindu for God. It is believed

Analysis Of ' Blair Witch Project '
Semiotic Analysis on Blair Witch Project Blair Witch Project is regarded the first of its time, a
horror film in a documentary–style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase in
the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of different
genres, especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long being
characterized by the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters, ghosts,
demons and madmen or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most horror
movies were developing in many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the
supernatural characters and scenes. Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using
mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the
1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through
innovation, in the film industry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole
new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced in 1999, has had an incredible impact and
influence, which very few films have had over the years. It is arguably among the scariest and most

Blair Witch Project Analysis
The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was
released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a
documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various
hallmarks of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found
footage, and cinematography.
In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie
genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is
unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo "underscores the theme of sight and the ability to

The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the
the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29–34). In The Blair Witch Project,
the protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town
begins exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the
film to haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project
plays on insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to
run into abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists
do not. The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or
commenting at the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre.
The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls "the pleasure of not–seeing". She mentions that, "The
blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the
terrifying spectacle" (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the
camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of
the night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the
main characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the

disease and unwanted pregnancy, are rarely if ever acknowledged by the characters. There seems to

The Effects of Political Parties on a Democracy
There are indeed several aspects in the composition of political parties that threaten democracy in
the UK, whilst other aspects may promote democracy. Careful analysis must be done in order to
establish to what extent either is true.
On the one hand, it may be argued that parties in fact promote democracy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, they assist the electorate by offering them a coherent choice, allowing people to vote
democratically. Rather than the electorate having to choose between several members of each party,
and having to place votes for central government subsequent to placing local constituency votes,

has also given higher platforms to those women already elected: Several years ago, Theresa May

name to 'New Labour' under the leadership of Tony Blair in 1997, to reflect these radical changes.
At this time Labour chose to adapt its policies, and lose a lot of its socialist values. Under 'Old

businesses, Labour acknowledged that it would be dangerous to radically reform businesses and
bring them back under state ownership, thus they modernised their policies adapting them to the

feminism have been achieved: men, and women are now social equals" (O'brien & Szeman 395).
Post–feminism is portrayed in the show Gossip Girl. In the show, post–feminism is something that is
shown throughout the entire series; specifically it is shown by how the female characters are
constantly being objectified. The show Gossip Girl shows that being attractive is the only form of
identity that the female characters have, and without their looks the characters would be nothing.
The female characters in the show constantly have to work hard to prove themselves as women and
have to work even harder to gain respect from the men around them. They are often shown as
"weak" and "fragile" in the shown and are also easily manipulated by their male partners. In addition
the strong connection between Gossip Girl and post–feminism is why these two have been chosen to
be combined. Furthermore, by limiting what can be seen as what their identity truly is, post–
feminism is shown throughout this show.
Gossip Girl is a popular drama TV show that has been around for a while now. Gossip Girl has 6
seasons. The show started in 2007 and follows a privileged teenage cast that live in the Upper East
Side in New York City. The cast is made up of several characters

Blair House Internship
Although my four months interning at Blair House, the President's Guest House, was short, I learned
a great deal not only about collection management of a historical house, but also about the history of
an influential family and the history of diplomacy in the United States Government. Previous to this
internship, Blair House was not a place that I had any real knowledge about. My limited wisdom
came from a scene or two in a movie and television show. Learning so much about a wonderful
collection with so much historical value has been a once in a lifetime opportunity
Not only has this internship has been a life changing experience for me in my pursuit of a career in
collections management, but it has opened doors for me in the connections I made with the people
that work in the State Department. I was graciously welcomed into Blair House by people whose
passions align with mine. Being surrounded on a daily basis with a real sense of diplomacy and
history humbles most who walk through the house. The stories that are told on the curator–led tours
fascinate anyone with an interest in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the fact that it is Blair House and there is some prestige in that title also helped me
make my decision in accepting the position. I know that connections could be made to help continue
my career in the future after I graduate and begin looking for a full time position in the field.
Overall, my goals were to learn as much as possible about real life collections management, to put
what I have learn from class and textbooks into a real world setting, and making last connections
with those that I work with. I believe that I have successfully attained these goals during my time at

A potential problem with this strategy is with a large, non targeted marketing push, 75% of audience
the company would be targeting is not purchasing paint. Based on the company's standard of
recovering the costs within a year, if the company doubles its advertising costs, sales should show a
significant increase and there is no guarantee of this.
Reduce price by 20%
By reducing the price, Jones Blair will be more competitive with other brands. Right now, Jones
Blair is prices significantly higher than all other brands and when a consumer sees the brands side
by side at a store, they may not realize the higher quality of Jones Blair paint, just the higher price
and immediately select against.
A major issue is since reducing the price 20% reduces the profit margin to 15%, to maintain the
same profit while reducing the price, the sales must be $28 million for this year. This is an increase
of 233% in one year to justify reducing the price this much. This is a highly unlikely target.
Another potential problem is Jones Blair could lose the consumer's perception of the company being
high quality, high customer focused. Jones Blair has continually put focus on being the leader in
quality and customer satisfaction and if the company's prices are the same as all the other brands,
what makes Jones Blair stand out?

Blair and Chuck are in love with each other but, for some reason dont show it. The two characters
go through a huge amount of drama with other people just to end up getting married in the end.
Serena and Dan had met at the beginning of the show. The two clicked instantly and fell in love with
each other. After a long amount of time, Serena and Dan ended up not being together because of lost
feelings and their parents dating each other. Another relationship is the relationship between Serena
and Nate. The two have always had a connection but never seem to have right timing. The two end
up just being best

Comparative Essay On Gossip Girl
Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf are two core characters in the drama series, Gossip Girl.
Although they share their differences, they're both very similar. They refer to each other as S
(Serena) and B (Blair). In some moments, they're portrayed as "frenemies", but in the end they
always work it out. Despite being occasional rivals, the two best friends remain close. The show
opens up with Serena and Blair when they're younger, and this is where the competition and rivalry
mainly begins. For the majority of the tv show, their relationship remains complicated so let me
break it down for you. The first similarity between them is their social class. Blair lives in a nice
penthouse in Manhattan, New York in the area they refer to as the "Upper East Side". The Upper
East Side is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though it's such a big penthouse, Serena only lives there with her mom and brother. Their
penthouse is located in the Upper East Side as well. Both Serena and Blair have servants and maids
to help them and a doorman at the front lobby who controls who goes in and out of their house.
Another similarity is their fashion sense. They're both obsessed with fashion and clothes. Blair's
mom is a fashion designer and owns a fashion company called "Waldorf Designs". She normally
gets her clothes custom designed to fit her style because she's independent and doesn't like having
the same wardrobe as anyone else. While Blair and Serena are similar with fashion, only one of
them modeled fashion for the Waldorf Designs Company. Serena was, Serena was a model multiple
times throughout the show. She was the only one who modeled for Blair's mom. They always go
shopping together and style clothes. Since they're both rich, they never fail to shop till they drop.
Serena also gets some of her clothes custom made but she has a certain store that she loves to get her
clothes from that shows her

Jones Blair Case Study

  • 1. Jones Blair Case Study 22 October 2012 Jones Blair Case Study Jones Blair Company is a paint manufacturer that distributes paint to Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana with its manufacturing plant based in Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW). The main product line of the company is architectural paint with some line depth that they manufacture at their own plant; they also offer the sundries for painting towards their end customers. The sundries offered are not produced by the company itself but carries the Jones Blair brand logo. The management is at a turning point where they need to make a decision about how to get more sales out on the market and if the company is competitive enough in the current market place. They have a strong market share in the DFW area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other half goes towards professional painters that are divided in to two subcategories with pure professional painters that only do the paint job and the other part consists of contractors, but also exports and government sales. In the paint market there are three different main areas; those are architectural paint, original equipment manufacturing (OEM) paint and special–purpose paint. Architectural paint is the category that mostly reaches out to end costumers of the non–professional kind. The other two categories are more aimed to find itself end up on a professional market for different purposes. Therefore, architectural paint is often called "shelf goods" because one can find it in general purpose stores. The paint market in America is a 13 billion dollar industry in America over the three main sub categories. There are three sub categories of paint with the biggest being architectural paint with a market share of 43 percent. Right behind is OEM paint with a 35 percent market share. The smallest market is the special–purpose paint with a 22 percent market share. The specific market Jones Blair is distributing their products into is estimated to be an 80.0 million dollar market for architectural paint in 1999. From this, Jones Blair has a 15% market share with sales of 12 million dollars. Jones Blair has 40 percent of its total amount of stores with products available in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. • 3. Jones Blair Case Re: Jones–Blair Company New Marketing Efforts Executive Summary Mr. Barrett faces different propositions of where and how to organize corporate marketing efforts in the architectural paint coatings market under Jones–Blair Company. • 9. Walt Disney And Mary Blair Before a film is created, various designers work from a script to capture the exact atmosphere and tone a film needs. There are hundreds, even thousands of artwork created behind a film while only a few will ever meet the screen. Despite that, the artwork serves another purpose; the artwork encourages and directs storyboard artists, animators, colorists, etc. to truly finish a film. One of those designers, those artists, according to John Canemaker, "helped Walt Disney move into a critical phase of his own artistic journey." That artist was none other than the lovely Mary Blair. Her modernist style and talent for pairing colors instantly became an iconic Disney trait that would inspire later films. Mary Robinson Blair grew up during the Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the vacation, the group would paint their observations along the streets of many cities and villages. It was then, that Walt Disney truly fell for Mary Blair's art style and coloring skills. Walt had described her work as "translating real life observations into pure distillations of color and form," while Mary recalled he had also stated "Walt said that I knew about colors he had never heard of before." Disney insisted Blair to work for him again, giving her projects like Penelope the Time Traveller. Penelope the Time Traveller was a short animated film buried under time, but was an important project to Blair, as working on it allowed her style to become flatter, bolder, and more modernist. During this time, 95% of Disney footage was under government contract for training and propaganda films, so Disney appointed Mary Blair as art director for the animated shorts to make them less gloomy. Blair would then be appointed to doing concept art for Cinderella, in which her artwork would become the basis for the film's overall color scheme. Other than that, a lot of animators found it hard to work with Mary Blair's art style due to its flatness, despite Walt Disney's personal wish to have her artwork more present in his films , while animators required a more realistic style to work with. Mary Blair's art style would become more prominent in her next film, Alice in Wonderland. The more creative, spontaneous tone of Alice in Wonderland was a perfect match for Mary Blair. Her art style can be seen in the plants, patterns, color, and exaggerated silhouettes of the Alice in Wonderland characters, especially during the "Card Match" scene within the movie. Her final film would be Peter Pan, which also allowed Blair to get playful with illustrating the pixies, pirates, and mermaids within the films. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New York Times built its legacy around characteristics that did not represent the status quo nor did it follow the traditional steps in reporting news to the public. Instead of putting emphasis on reporting corruption, scandal, and extreme political views, it put importance in reporting the factual representation of events and limited both personal views and expressions (Smeraglinolo, Wehmer, & O'Rourke, 2007). The New York Times set guidelines to ensure its readers were getting the accurate details of its reporting. This will enable her to reach employees more effectively than making significant changes. • 13. Voting Behaviour At UK Elections Is Determined More By... 'Voting behaviour at UK elections is determined more by issues of personality and image than on the basis of policies or performance in office'. Discuss. In recent times it may be argued that personality and image has played a huge part in the voting behaviour of the electorate in the UK. The personality and image may refer to the personality of the party leader and how they present themselves in their campaign. This is a short–term factor and in a time where long–term factors are not said to play a huge role, as there is party de–alignment and a change in the class structure, perceptions of party leadership can play a huge role in determining voting behaviour. In 1997, Labour were very much in touch with the electorate and focused on salient issues, whereas the conservatives focused on issues such as trade unions and devolution which were not deemed as salient. This benefitted Labour as they gained a huge win at this election and rather than personality playing a huge part, it may have been their policies. Another contributing factor at this election may have been performance in office, which in the above statement is not seen as important as personality and image. However, performance in office may have been extremely detrimental for the conservatives in 1997 because of their crisis in 1992. This focuses on the retrospective model, as people saw the Conservatives as incompetent in handling the economy because of Black Wednesday in September 1992. The Conservatives and especially Noramnt Lamont, Chancellor of the Exchequer, were to blame for the crisis that saw the pound forced out of the ERM. This didn't help at the 1997 general election where they did extremely badly in a huge Labour win. Personality and image does play a huge part in voting behaviour and will continue to do so in 2015, where Ed Milliband's leadership will come into question and could affect Labour's chances a lot. However, it is still not enough to suggest that personality and image are larger determinants in voting behaviour than on the basis of policies or performance in office. It is difficult to see ... Based off the popular book series, the show follows Manhattan's elite, and showcases the lives of the upperclassmen teens, focusing on their relationships, school lives and careers. When looking at Gossip Girl from a sociological perspective, there's many hidden themes that are brought to light. While also showcasing some controversial issues, Gossip Girl reflects many themes that can been seen in society. Contrary to some belief this series displays a substantial amount of feminism, with the use of powerful female characters, but lacks the accurate representation of social class and contains numerous gender stereotypes. In addition to the fact that the show largely surrounds the leading female protagonists, Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, there is a great deal of feminism being shown by these Upper East Side women. To begin with, Blair Waldorf can be seen as the shows most driven and head strong female, who goes about her life in an unabashedly feminist way. She demonstrates female power and dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank. Despite her social standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being handed to her and chooses to work for her goals. The Blair Witch Project uses simple yet effective set design and dream like sound editing to highlight the gradual mental decay of main character, Heather Donahue over the course of the story to illustrate a dramatic shift in the orientation. Symbols and children's handprints on the walls of the decaying house imply that the house that Mike and Heather find themselves in during the last scene is in fact the house that the children from the townspeople's stories were killed in. The first person point of view camera angle also allows the audience to experience the strange and terrifying events that take place within the film by allowing them to adopt the perspective of the characters in a way that cannot be accomplished with traditional film making techniques. "Likely outcome: The panel initially divides evenly. After a stormy two–hour meeting with Alastair Campbell in closed session, Christine de Pisan leaves in tears and the panel votes 3–0 that Tony Blair did have Just Cause". The third on the list is 'Right Intentions' meaning that there was nothing to gain out of this, it wasn't for personal reasons, and going into this there was good intentions. "The panel members are on record as believing that the aim of any war must be the achievement of peace and of the just cause –not revenge, the desire for plunder or the suffering of destruction of the people on the other side". Due to the fact that Tony did not gain anything nor was there evidence to prove self– intentions he had to have the right intentions. • 36. Main Motives For The Invasion Of Iraq What were the main motives for the Invasion of Iraq in 2003? This project argues that there were many more complex reasons for Tony Blair's 2003 invasion of Iraq, other than the war on terror, the need to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to free the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussain as the government implied. Factors such as the vast amounts of crude oil that the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf contains (which includes a large part of Iraq's coast) and the need to control future oil supplies was the overall determining factor on going to Iraq. There was also a need to stay allied with the US (which has been deeply ingrained in UK foreign policy since the Suez Crisis of 1956) and help secure US and in turn UK military presence in the middle east. Methodology Primarily, it would be imperative to establish the history of this conflict and exactly how it got to the point of war not only from Blair's point of view but also from the other generally considered reasons, mainly Oil and the US. Jones– Blair markets its paint to fifty counties in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and eleven county Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan areas. Jones–Blair has branded itself as having a high–end paint product. Increased R&D, material, and labor cost have allowed Jones–Blair to have the highest price among competitors in its service area and still obtain a great amount of business. • 40. Symbolic Convergence in Gossip Girl: The Fantasy of the... From high school girls desperately trying to be one of cool kids in school to corporate warriors rubbing elbows for that next promotion, nearly everyone has fantasized about being a part of the "in crowd". What is it that makes the bonds and barriers of "in crowd" so unbreakable? Through sharing stories and reaching conclusions through discussion of those stories, members of small groups develop a common bond that shapes their social reality. An example of this bond is prominent in the CW's hit show, Gossip Girl, which focuses on the world of high society elite at a private high school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York. Circumstances in Gossip Girl show how concepts in symbolic convergence describe the formation of group bonds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 28). The stories which create the fantasy typically consist of "common or related content", known as a fantasy theme (Beebe & Masterson, 2009, p. 44). As members of a small group share stories or experiences with other group members, adherence to the fantasy theme creates "a string of connected stories that revolve around a common theme." Bormann calls this set of stories a fantasy chain (Beebe & Masterson, 2009, p.42–44). As a fantasy theme develops, is repeated, and flourishes it changes the group members' social reality. Bormann describes such a change as a rhetorical vision. It is important to note that a group may have more than one rhetorical vision and they can be reinforced through recurring media messages or other influences outside the context of the small group itself (Griffin, 2009, p. 27–29). Simply put, symbolic convergence occurs in groups through the sharing of stories. Group members interpret these stories through a common fantasy. Stories with a similar topic are said to make up the fantasy theme. A fantasy theme appears when group members respond to, rather than dismiss, a fantasy creating a fantasy chain reaction. Use of the fantasy by group members to explain, justify, or understand situations outside the group shows the group's rhetorical vision. • 42. Much Ado About Nothing, By William Shakespeare Love is never an easy concept to understand, let alone when everyone around you seems to be figuring it out and you feel out of the loop. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, and the novel, Pride and Prejudice, this shows to be the main plot line. These are quite dated. However, a modern twist to this story line is also seen in the television series, Gossip Girl. It is the typical love story; the prospective pairs can only fall in love with each other once they recognize their isolation and fight their way towards their own happy ending. With different plots and twists, each love story stands out in its own way and sets itself apart from the others. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, the prospective couple is Beatrice and Benedict. Their relationship begins as merciless fighting and teasing between both characters, also known as "the war of wits". Shakespeare made sure to make this type of relationship prominent and important in the beginning of the play since Beatrice's first words towards Benedick were, "I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick. Nobody marks you." (1.1.92–94). Being around Claudio, a good friend of Benedick's, and Hero, Beatrice's cousin, makes life for Beatrice and Benedick a bit difficult. Both Beatrice and Benedick witness as Claudio and Hero's love story unfolds in a series of romantic events. This seems to put strain on their own relationship because they are so closely involved with both Claudio and Hero. In a series of events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An extract from Arthur Marwick– "British Society Since 1945": The fall of Labour Party: the labour government has had a very difficult time leading to the general elections of 1979. The years between 1976–79 proved to be intense ones, filled with economic problems, intensified with labour movements looking to rejuvenate. Thatcher's policies of the 1970s and 1980s would go on to shape the nation well into the millennium. This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997 continued the implementation of Thatcher's policies. The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blair continued Thatcherite policies will be explored throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will attempt to narrow the consequences of Thatcher's policy continuation to confer whether those policies were beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society. It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several contradictory explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be explained via "a short hand description of what the Thatcher–led Conservative governments did at any one time" or similarly it could be explained as " a popular political movement, a policy style; a form of leadership; or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post–social democratic neo–liberal political agenda' (Heffernan, 2001). • 48. Gossip Girl And Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the agonizing romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. In eighteenth century class–conscious England, wealthy families married for money and a stable reputation. Many critics argue that people no longer marry for money but instead for love. However, sugar mommies, daddies, and babies are more prevalent in the twenty–first century than is publicly shown. Cecily von Ziegesar's Gossip Girl, originally chick literature turned major drama television series, portrays the romantic struggles of Manhattan's East Side upper class. Essay Justifying the War the in Iraq Justifying the War the in Iraq Early last year, the latest Gulf War broke out, and, within weeks, British and American leaders claimed that peace would prevail: that the fighting had ended. More than six months after the 'end of the war', soldiers, and Iraqis, are still dying. What went wrong? Was Bush lying all along, or did he just make a mistake? I think that the answer to this question is obvious: Bush and Blair, or 'Bliar', as anti–war campaigners call him, have lying to us all along. Britain and America have been freely selling arms to Israel, knowing that they would be used against Palestinians. (Therefore, we in Britain should, no, must boycott Israeli and American goods (Israeli goods have a bar code beginning with 0810).) What has been gained by this war? The answer is nothing. At least, nothing positive: At least twenty thousand Iraqi civilians have been injured, and the Iraqi death toll is estimated to be between eight and ten thousand! The UN's word about permission for a 'legal' war now counts for nothing: having ignored it once, why will Britain and America bother obeying it in the future? And this war has cost billions of dollars. Only a week and a half ago George Bush put forward another six billion dollars! And that is English billions, not American, so that is $6,000,000,000,000! It was then that Orwell realized the wrongness of capital punishment. The prisoner was a living, breathing human being whose "brain still remembered, foresaw, reasoned – reasoned even about puddles" (Orwell, 101). After the noose is fixed around the prisoner's neck, he began to repeatedly chant the word "Ram," which is Hindu for God. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not. The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre. The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls "the pleasure of not–seeing". She mentions that, "The blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the terrifying spectacle" (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see.
