Terror attacks have become a norm in the modern society, and the occurrence of these attacks has
escalated in the past few years. Back in September 2001, the United States of America oversaw the
darkest period in their history. A total of 19 militants affiliated with the terrorist group Al–Qaeda,
hijacked four commercial passenger planes and flew 2 of them into the World Trade Centre, 1 hit
the Pentagon, while the other one crash landed in Pennsylvania. In the wake of these attacks, a trail
of death, destruction, and emotional instability was left behind. What followed was the realization of
the importance of emergency management and emergency preparedness in the United States.
This paper takes an in–depth and detailed look at these attacks, their overall impact in terms of
economic and social status, and a detailed look at how different countries and organizations can
effectively prepare themselves to deal with disasters by using excellent emergency management
skills.

and early adoption of the telegraph. Today, HFT is algorithm–based. Supercomputers react to
market changes, such as price and timing, and automatically initiate trades without the need for
human interaction. This has allowed investment firms to buy and sell stock at speeds thousands of
times faster than an average floor trader, and reduce costs through economies of scale.
Use of HFT has grown exponentially since the 1990's. In 2012 alone, 6.4 billion shares were traded
through some type of HFT. There are signs, though, that the growth of HFT is tapering off. Profits
from HFT in 2014 are estimated at 1.25 billion dollars, down 74% from its 2009 peak of 4.9 billion.
Nevertheless, it is still an integral part of the US Stock Market.

The first stock I decided to invest in was Disney. I chose this stock because I have been a Disney fan

381.17 points. The crash started with a 13% fall on Black Monday, October 28, 1929, and continued

With intermittent rallies, the Dow continued to fall and had lost almost half its value by mid–
November. Though the markets saw strong intermittent bear market rallies, the Dow hit its lowest
value of the 20th century on July 8, 1932, when the index closed at 41.22. That is a whopping

I think 3M some weaknesses in managing, as it is a conglomerate company. Conglomerate
companies are harder to manage than enterprises that focus on a single area of business, having
some other product lines that cooperate with that main area.
Another weakness is that the company is not well adapted to change in currency exchange rates.
L.D. DeSimone, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said: "We have a strong
presence in Japan and Asia, and our businesses continue to be affected by the economic contractions

company increased guidance for its fiscal year, but this accomplishment was too small and failed to

investors have been aware of the superior returns of the alternative strategies, many new smart betas
are created. This paper uses the 30 stocks from Dow Jones Industrial Average Index to build seven
portfolios. One of the portfolios is based on traditional market capitalization which is regarded as
the benchmark, the other six portfolios are all based on alternative strategies.
The objective of this paper is to compare the performance of cap–weighted portfolio with non–cap–

As previously stated in the executive summary, the United States' economy is currently stagnating.
From week to week we may see a rise in one indicator while there is a fall in another indicator, but
none of the rises or falls are drastic enough to have an overwhelming impact on the economy as a
whole. Although the economy is not near as strong as it was before the 2008–2009 recession,
arguably one of the biggest economic crises of the past decade, there has been much growth and
strength throughout the past few years with this year being the first year in which the economy is in
somewhat of a holding pattern. I believe, that even with the little growth and movement of the
United States economy over the past year, it is still perhaps one of the strongest economies in the
world at the moment.
The rise and fall of GDP over a specific period of time is, in many cases, the number one indicator
for how the economy is doing. Being the output of final goods and services, GDP works well with
consumer confidence and provides a good idea as to the general health of the economy. By looking
at Figure 1, we can see that GDP rose steeply after the 20008–2009 recession and has continued to
remain strong with relatively little movement since 2010. In the most recent quarters, 2014 and
2015, GDP has declined a little, but the decline is in no way too drastic nor did it have any

Critical Analysis Of Robert Reich's Inequality For All
In the documentary titled "Inequality for All", Robert Reich attempts to describe to the audience and
his students reasons for the income inequality found in the United States. "Inequality for All"
showed an endearing and caring side of Reich, where he made himself seem human and fallible. I
found myself personally enjoying this side of him, the short aging man who, although a Rhodes
Scholar drives a Cooper and holds himself above politics.
After reflection and research, one can quickly see where Mr. Reich uses emotion and imagery to
build a false argument. His attempts to pull the emotional strings of the audience begin with his
extreme shortness caused by a medical affliction. We move to Reich driving an inexpensive car with
a manual transmission. Then we meet a woman having difficulty making ends meet and crying
while relating her story. Reich shows the audience and his students a Dow Jones Industrial Average
(DJIA) graph with a hockey stick curve so sharp it was astounding. I had to pause the film so I
could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online interactive graph of
the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create any data set that produced the
theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no
numbers. He just uses them as pictures to demonstrate an emotional point, never mind there is no
substance, just emotion.
Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph showing a "U
shaped curve". Reich, Saez and Piketty wanted to present that curve represented income disparity
from 1900 to present day. Reich and his cohorts wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from
around 1920 to 1940. It seems this was a time where the income differential was much less than
present day and they want to get back to that time.
News flash gentlemen, that was the World War I and Great Depression era. Capital was devalued or
lost at such a tremendous level, we developed a capitalized name for it. We teach school children of
these times, but the documentary seems to ignore or gloss over it. Simple mathematics would lead
