Examples Of Allusions In The Hollow Men
T.S Eliot s The Hollow Men is a broad allegory for deliverance in a landscape reminiscent of
purgatory. Eliot provides examples of allusion, imagery, and paradox to describe a fully realized
apocalyptic scenario that affirms the hopelessness of a godless world. The poem begins two allusions:
literary and historical. Mr. Kurtz he dead is reference to Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Kurtz
was a man who had lost his humanity after traveling to Africa and succumbing to insanity. A penny for
the old Guy is a question traditionally asked by children on November 5th in England. The question
references Guy Fawkes, a British rebel infamous for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot , set to
assassinate King James I. Both Kurtz and Fawkes are

Student Assistant Job Application
1. I am applying for the Student Assistant position in the Undergraduate Admissions office because I
am passionate about Simmons College and meeting new people! In my past experiences, I loved my
jobs concerning customer service and helping people. I have worked in both a communications
department and a customer service department, and as a receptionist. Being able to spend part of my
day assisting people with their questions and helping my coworkers made me excited to go to work. I
also found comfort in completing tasks, and would gladly take on even the most thought to be tedious
projects. I would love to be able to combine my passion for Simmons and helping people. 2. I applied

Why Is Michelangelo Important During The Renaissance
During the renaissance there were quite a few significant people. One of those people was
Michelangelo. He was a man of many skills and some of them include sculpting, painting, poetry, and
even architecture. You ve most likely heard of, or even seen some of his work, since it is widely
acknowledged today. Michelangelo was one of the most significant artists during the renaissance and
here s why. Michelangelo was a very gifted sculptor. Some of his most recognizable sculptures would
be the statue of Moses, the statue of David, and the statue Pieta. Many people consider him one of the
greatest sculptors ever. Let s start with the statue of Moses. It is located in the church of San Pietro in
Vincoli, Rome. The statue was built after Michelangelo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was able to chisel and paint very fine details such as veins, wrinkles, muscles, and bones into his
art. The reason he achieved such realism was because as a young man he studied anatomy and
dissected human corpses, which allowed him to gain a better understanding of the human body.
Michelangelo also attended the Humanist academy where he studied some important philosophers and
writers who influenced his art. Some of them include: Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, and
Poliziano. Around the age of 16, he was also able to work with a sculptor named Bertoldo di
Giovanni. Another thing that influenced Michelangelo s art style was his interest in Greek and Roman
art. He brought back certain details in Greek and Roman art which also influenced other artists to
paint art that wasn t Christian themed. He was a dedicated catholic, which inspired many of his

Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde
Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a tool for an
intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into poems themselves. It encourages
metareflection and the use of dream visions within Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic
device or a significant and divine vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an
effective and fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The
dreams in Troilus and Criseyde take various forms, altering shape under careful observation.
Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or divulge hidden
truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this dream is fabricated from the
subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to
acknowledge this, even to herself. These two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in
Chaucer s work as it remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too
was questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that can be seen to
predict future theories of human understanding and dream interpretations.
Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or in relation to the
affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart
of my body, and two where Criseida returns this expression. The wording implies the exchange of
hearts, a motif only included in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire
may have been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack on the
woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice versa. Chaucer explores this
motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which according to Medieval allegory and moral,
received both favourable and unfavourable interpretations.
Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh with severe
ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde with physical harm. (II. 925

Marriott Case Study
History of Marriott
Marriott was founded in 1927 by the married couple of J. Willard and Alice Marriott. Their company
started off as A W root beer stand in Washington D.C. While in the restaurant franchise business, they
introduced two major ideas with the Eastern Coast s first drive in capable restaurant and airline
catering for passengers to consume boxed lunches mid flight. Later in 1953, Hot Shoppes,
Incorporated transitions to public by selling out in two hours of trading at $10.25 per share. Five years
later, Marriot makes a quintessential move into the hotel business by opening the earliest motor hotel
in Arlington, Virginia. Over the next quarter century, the brand opens its first international hotel,
becomes the first hotel company to enter the cruise business, and announces the first Courtyard hotel
for high level business travelers to lodge with. Marriot offers multiple brands in the late 1900s that
span over Europe and Africa, along with other countries and continents. Finally, Marriott becomes the
#1 hospitality company in the world with more than 5,700 properties across the world.
Evaluation of Marriott
Marriott is undoubtedly a thriving business in the top tier of the hospitality industry. Any person does
not have to look any further than their stock price of over 100 dollars per share or their market cap
worth around 39.79 billion dollars. In class, we discussed customer service as an important part to

Reflection Of My Internshipment
My internship is conveniently located about a mile up the road from the University of Maryland
campus in College Park. Although I don t have strict schedule I agreed with my supervisor that it
would be best to show up in the morning when most of the employees are working in order to
communicate and work with them more efficiently. When it comes to responsibilities, the buildings
and facilities tracking report is the most time consuming and demanding responsibility I have been
assigned, as it requires me to follow several steps, pulling different reports from the accounting system
to reconcile and later double check my work, taking at least one quarter of my time in the office
monthly. Also, my responsibilities also require me to compile reports on information and the
anticipated cost of future scientific conferences and identify and report ConcurGov rejects to travel

divided almost equally among special projects with the deputy director and the Chief of fiscal services
that range from creating special documents on word and excel to double checking accounting in
reports and getting trained by one of the specialist on what to do in special situations in the reports or
doing individual training with FMMI courses on AgLearn. One class that has helped me throughout

Oedipus Rex, Sophocles
Oedipus the ideal Tragic Hero
Kelli Richards
Liberty University
Abstract
In the play Oedipus Rex, Sophocles portrays Oedipus who is also the main character, as a good
natured, beautiful, noble yet narcissistic person who has a lapse of judgment and fall from power.
Throughout the play Oedipus makes a few profound decisions for which he is condemned to plentiful
suffering; thus making Oedipus fit the mold of a tragic hero if we agree with Aristotle that Oedipus
misfortune happens strictly because of his tragic flaw. Oedipus judgment alongside classic narcissistic
behavior caused such events as the killing of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aristotle, Using Oedipus as an ideal model, says that a tragic hero must be an important or influential
man who has a lapse in judgment. Who then must suffer the consequences of his actions. The audience
must learn a lesson from the tragic hero; a lesson of what happens when great men fall from their
social or political positions. The tragic hero needs his errors in judgment for a phenomenal effect of
audience realization to occur.
Oedipus tries to prevent his terrible fate from occurring after it is prophesized to Laius, his father,
early on; he leaves the city of his foster parents as a preventative measure. Oedipus is being punished
for his parents actions. His birth parents once set out to seek the advice of the Delphi Oracle but the
advice was gloom. They were told never to have children, but in spite of the warning Oedipus was
born. Therefore from the beginning Oedipus is a tragic hero, his birth presents his destiny to result in
tragedy. As with most tragedies Oedipus birth was noble which made his fall more intriguing to the
audience. What use are my eyes to me, who could never See anything pleasant again? (Sophocles
1293) This statement is the realization of wrongdoing; it is not until now that Oedipus sees his own
actions as wrong.
There is a significant point of the play where the Herdsman tells Oedipus who his mother is and
Oedipus replies Oh, oh, then everything has come out true. Light, I shall not look on

Analysis Of The Financial Ratios Of David Jones
The following financial report provides an analysis of the financial ratios of David Jones with its close
competitor in the retail sector, Myer. The financial ratios analyzed include profitability ratios, leverage
ratios, efficiency ratios and market ratios for the two companies. The analysis utilizes individual
company time series analysis as well as industry cross sectional analysis with the aim of determining
the competitiveness of David Jones relative to its close competitor Myer.
Introduction
Financial ratio analysis is a valuable tool that allows one to assess the success, potential failure or
future prospects of the company (Bazley 2012). The ratios are helpful in spotting useful trends that

Profitability ratios are used to measure the overall efficiency of thebusiness, as well as management
effectiveness. Examples of profitability ratios include the gross margin ratio and the net margin ratios.
Gross profit margin
The gross profit margin measures the amount of profits that a company generates from its operations
without consideration of its indirect costs. Thehigher thegross profit margin, the greater the efficiency
of a company s operations (Besley Brigham 2007). It means that the company is generating enough
income to cover its operating expenses. On the contrary, a lower gross profit margin indicates that the
business is not generating adequate income to cover its operating expenses.
The formulae for calculating gross profit margin is David Jones gross profit margin for the past three
years has remained stable with minimal fluctuations. The following calculated figures are for the year
2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013; 39.73%, 39.10%, 37.50% and 37.8% respectively. Such an observation is
desirable as it is indicative that the company is financially stable as it is generating enough income to
cover its operating expenses and make savings. It suggests that the industry in which the company
operates has not experienced drastic economic fluctuations that can affect the company s cost of goods
sold. However,

Clifford Brown Character Traits
Referred to as a Jazz singer, Sarah Vaughan exhibits her all rounded musical personality in her
renowned album Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown. Although the title indicates that the album
features influential trumpeter Clifford Brown, the singer is the indisputable focus, who enjoys
accompaniments by a small, compact group of instrumentalists. Clifford Brown, also known as
Brownie, with his restrained, graceful delivery, shares equal parts of solo with tenor saxophonist Paul
Quinichette and flutist Herbie Mann in most of the songs . His status among the instrumentalists was
not accentuated when the album was recorded in the December of 1954.
The original LP consists of nine tracks, including several classic Jazz standards with new attempts
combining voice and instruments, two little recorded Jazz songs and two pop ballads. Vaughan s
identity as a Jazz singer was not always clear. Actually, in 1953, Sarah signed two contracts with

The Devil Made Me Do It
The enemy, the devil, can t make you and I do anything. So, don t use that flimsy excuse that The
devil made me do it. The devil didn t make you do anything. He can t force you and I to do anything
that is outside our will or the will of God. All he can do is tempt you. He doesn t have that kind of
authority over us, where he can make you do anything. The Bible says that we are drawn away by our
own lusts when we do something that is outside of God s Word and will for our lives. You re drawn
away because that s what you wanted to do, and then we try to find every excuse in the book to justify
doing it. I m here to tell you that you ll never be able to qualify it. You will never ever be able to
satisfy yourself with the thought I was justified in doing it if you re going to be a man of integrity. A
man of integrity has nothing to hide, nothing to fear. You are always a stand up man, and you will
always be an individual who others can depend and count on. But most of all, a man of integrity is
always true to his word. When you make promises, keep them. Don t be a liar. A man of integrity is
not a liar; he keeps his word. The Bible says in Psalm 15, When you re living with integrity, you ll tell
the truth even when you re older. Even when you know it may very well expose you, you still tell the
truth instead of trying to find a way to get around it. Speak the truth in love, that we may grow up in
all things. Every time you lie, you compromise your integrity. Let s say

The Trend Of The American Hippie Movement
Introduction
The major trend of the American hippie movement from the 1960s had a major influence on the way
New Zealand used drugs and how international trends still influence drug use today. Drug use patterns
in New Zealand are very similar to other countries in the western world but also shows how some
popular trends of Hard Drugs did not become a huge problem due to the isolation of New Zealand and
how hard it was to bring in illegal drugs such as heroin. How international trends and ideals reach
New Zealand show how easy it is to influence a large percentage of a population to try drugs, legal or
not. The ideals of rebellion highlights the use of drugs because of the moral values and rules set by
mainstream society and the government. It is and was an easy way to reject mainstream rules if you
didn t want to live by them. The 1960s created a culture of mass following that rejected mainstream
life and rules that promoted peace and love making the use of drugs morally okay because that is what
they believed. As society moved on from hippie culture it introduced drugs that were highly addictive
and dangerous, in comparison to the drugs that were widely used in the 60s and early 70s LSD and

in action means being able to sort through that growing thicket of information. This is a lifelong

the polarization of many subjects, it is a skill vital for effective citizenship. Improving your
information skills helps you in your career ambitions because if you understand what it means to be

In the 21st century, it is inevitable for states to make a diplomatic and strategic decision without being
influenced by defence capabilities of their enemies and friends. Post World War II the approach
adopted by India, the Philippines and Switzerland are defensive in nature. The Swiss National
Redoubt and Indian Sundarji were developed within these states, while the Philippines strategy was
based on foreign military dependency. For all these three countries their approach is greatly influenced

Evolutionary History of Gray Wolves
Evolutionary History of Gray Wolves
The gray wolf is one of the world s most well known and well researched animals with more
documentation on them than any other wildlife species. It is a canid whose main habitats are in the
wilderness of remote areas in North America, Eurasia and North Africa. It is the largest member of the
wolf family, usually weighing between 70 and 120 lbs, and closely resembles in general appearance
and proportions to a modern day breed of dog known as the German Sheppard, although they typically
have a larger head, narrower chest, longer legs, straighter tails and bigger paws. The narrow chest of
the gray wolf allows for swift and efficient movement through the common elements of their
environment such as snow, brush and other conditions. Their larger heads indicate their higher level of
intelligence and their large paws, webbed with fur aid in movement across mud and snow. The colour
of a gray wolf s fur lives up to its name and is predominantly a mottled gray although the gray wolf
can also have fur that is nearly pure white, mixes of red, brown, or black. Being very social animals,
gray wolves do mostly everything in packs of 2 15 animals; living, traveling and hunting. They can
hunt and feed off smaller game, yet with their large pack size, they can work collectively to bring
down large game such as deer, moose or bison. There are 37 recognized subspecies of the gray wolf in

Personality Change In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth , the title character undergoes a serious personality change. At the
plays beginning Macbeth is a loyal and honorable man who, unfortunately, is immensely ambitious.
As the play progresses however, Macbeth begins to lose the honor that he held onto so dearly.
Macbeths descent into dishonor is displayed in the two most prominent murders in the first 3 acts: the
slaying of Duncan and the assassination of Banquo. When Lady Macbeth is convincing her husband to
murder the king, the reader is able to detect his hesitation to commit such a heinous crime. Also, the
remorse Macbeth feels after he murders Duncan proves that he still possesses some of that honor and
loyalty he originally held in such high regard. However, when Macbeth has Banquo killed he has
changed into a cold and evil man. He, Macbeth, no longer clings to his honor and loyalty. In Macbeth
by William Shakespeare, Macbeth`s has a personality shift that is showcased in the murders of King
Duncan and Banquo. Macbeth is originally depicted as an honorable and loyal man. However his
ambition and his wife lead him to do things he would never dream of without those influences. The
hesitation that Macbeth shows when thinking about murdering Duncan proves that he started out as an
honorable man: I have no spur/ To prick the sides of my intent, but only/ Vaulting ambition (pg. 40 ll
25 27). Without the prodding of his wife, Macbeth never would have committed the murder of King
Duncan.

Boxing Vs Boxing Essay
Boxing is without a doubt a tough, and physical sport that s for sure. It s a sport that requires both
respect, and discipline; which could be the reason why it s used as a metaphor for life so often. You
get knocked down, but you get back up and continue to fight. The problem is, however, gaining
respect from your opponents is always easier said than done.
Believe it or not, a professional boxing match doesn t end when the bell rings. In other words, when a
boxer enters the ring, they re fighting for much more than what we see on television. In some cases,
they re fighting to support their family or fighting to escape poverty. Every fighter has this story, and

But to be completely honest, a fighter has no chance of winning the match without the proper training,
making the relationship between the boxer and trainers unbreakable.
What all does a training crew have to deal with? you ask.
Typically, the training crew is heavily involved in the boxers life both inside and outside the ring.
When the fighter isn t fighting against an opponent, they re training for the next match. Simple right?
Trainers also deal with injuries like temporomandibular, an injury to the main joint of the jaw,
concussions, broken bones and of course, dislocated shoulders. They re also responsible for making

No, not the television show, saved by the bell is an idiom meaning to be rescued at the last minute
from a sticky situation. While there s a wild held belief that the origin of the phrase dates back to the
17th century when individuals feared of being buried alive, coffins were equipped with bells to save
anyone to save any such unlucky person, it s actually you guessed it a boxing term referring to a
losing fighter being saved by a bell that signals the end of the round. But what happens when a fighter

one would be when the whole team did the experiment for the robot. Those are some of the many in

In the project of the underwater robot one of the methods was material which was done by Lorenzo.
Lorenzo was the one who thought of the whole idea to get the plastic ,trolling motors, pool noodles,
cameras, tape measure and cables. The whole idea of the scientific method of materials is colors,

Hazel Motes In Wise Blood
I believe that Hazel Motes is a prime example of extreme internal battles between religion and free
will. Throughout Wise Blood Hazel tries so hard to escape his Christian roots. When he was young he
came to the conclusion that the way to avoid Jesus was to avoid sin (O Connor 16). After his
grandfather dies he decides to join the army. While in the army is appears that Hazel lost his faith.
After his discharge from the army Hazel travels back to his hometown of Eastrod, Tennessee. He is
wearing a newly purchased suit and hat, the type a preacher would wear. He had a stiff black broad
brimmed hat on his lap, a hat that an elderly country preacher would wear, his suit was a glaring blue
(O Connor 4). He goes back to his home place only to find broken memories and an old chifforobe.
There was nothing left in the house but the old chifforobe in the kitchen (O Connor 20). Hazel then
decide to leave Eastrod and go Taulkinham, He tries to get rid of all thoughts of redemption. He is
very persistent on the fact that God does not exist, Do you think I believe in Jesus? .... Well I wouldn t
even if He existed. (O Connor 10). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is very obvious he battles between believing in God and being angry and not believing in anything
at all. He wants to get even with God because in some way he believes that God has destroyed him.
His first attempt to get even is visiting a lady with the friendliest bed in town, Mrs. Leora Watts! 60
Buckley Road, The friendliest bed in town! Brother. He took a pencil out of his pocket and wrote
down the address on the back of an envelope (O Connor 27). after all it isn t considered a sin if you
don t believe in sin. He insists that he does not believe in anything, this is constant throughout the
book. Listen: get this I don t believe in anything (O Connor

Electromagnetic Model Of Light, Refraction And
Light and Geometric Optics. That is the title for Unit D. Unit D deals with the electromagnetic
spectrum, Ray models of light, Refraction, and a lot of other topics. Light is used in many different
ways. Mirrors and televisions use light so you can see yourself and the show you are watching. The
light bulbs we utilize use different sources of light for power. We have advance and have been able to
find many uses for many different things that give us light. But first we must know how light works.
Light is part of the Electromagnetic spectrum. The Electromagnetic spectrum is made up of a range of
Electromagnetic radiation that extends from the shortest gamma ray to the longest radio waves. The
rays are in this order: radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a equation for calculating the speed of the wavelengths. The frequency is f and the
wavelength is . Speed equals v. Therefore V = f x wavelength . An example of this would be the
following question. The wavelength is 10 and the frequency is 2. So the speed of the waves would
equal 20 cm / s. Wave models of light help us understand the similarities between light and the
movement of water to explain properties of light we can t see. Refer to diagram 2.1 for example. For
example of this we can look at a prism. When a white light shines through it, it splits into seven
different colors. ROYGBIV: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and violet. This is called the
visible spectrum. While the most important light source is the sun, light can also be produced by
animals and plants. This ability is called Bioluminescence. Bioluminescence is very common among
the creatures of the sea. Only 10% of sea animals are not Bioluminescence. The animals that are
Bioluminescent use their ability to attract prey or to keep their schools together. They are able to dim
their lights if they sense a predator approaching. There are many other sources of light such as the
following six. Incandescent, Fluorescent, Phosphorescent, and Chemiluminescence,
triboluminescence, Electric Discharge. Incandescent is a light that is made by a type of object . A
incandescent light bulb has a thin piece of metal inside of the bulb, which is called a

The Community Clinical Site For Community Health Essay
Overview of the community clinical site My clinical site for community health was at Kansas City
rescue mission located at 1520 Cherry St, Kansas City, Missouri. I started from August 30th to
September 14th. The site is a homeless shelter rescue facility for men. The shelter provides the
following services: meals, showers, healthcare, laundry services, bible study, drug and alcohol
addiction support groups, and medication administration. The healthcare service at Kansas City rescue
mission is setup like a doctor s office. The clients sign up to be seen by the nurse and once they come
into the nurse s office, they are interviewed, a focused assessment is performed, and recommendations
are determined. The shelter also provided assistance in job placement to men that resided in this
shelter and place to stay for those with no alternative shelter. Involvement with the Agency I was in
interviewing and charting the subjective data, performed a focused assessment based on what the
client came in for, made recommendations, provided education, and gave over the counter medication
to the client under the supervision of my preceptor. While interacting with the men at the facility, I felt
accepted and appreciated. For example, during visits at the nurse s office, most of the men would open
up and share their stories and things that they are struggling with emotionally and socially, even
though I hadn t known them long enough to establish a relationship and trust for that kind of

Philosophy is an all important aspect of our lives. It is philosophy that we turn to when have the need
to seek out a guiding principle for our lives. Therefore, philosophy holds a prominent place in society
and in the world. Basically, everyone is a philosopher, but it takes the creative genius and reasoning of
brilliant thinkers to bring about world shattering concepts. Nevertheless, the common man also
ruminates about his life and his unique existence to try to find the meaning of his life. Over a life time,
a constitution or a theme is developed to discern the ideas that one can readily accept. Interestingly,

What one believes is sacred and my own beliefs, I cherish dearly. In this aspect, philosophy allows us
to live our lives with confidence, because we know that ideas cannot be taken from us. In the United
States, we can feel free to express our opinions and beliefs as long as we do not impinge upon other s
rights. This is where a common philosophy has been accepted and adopted by a people. This
macrocosmic unity of a nation demonstrates the power of philosophy. In another area, philosophy is
vital: religion. Religions are perhaps the largest groups of people who share a common philosophy.
Their uniform beliefs cause the members of each religion to philosophize in a common theme in
which the religion does not allow any radical deviation. One of philosophy s most important aspects is
its flexibility. This flexibility allows the individual to endlessly engender new thoughts and theories. It
was this flexibility that encouraged great thinkers to expound their ideas. It is dubious that their ideas
can change others , but in each stage of transition and growth there is an opportunity for new
philosophies to come in and help us live our lives better. Philosophy grants us the chance to live a
fulfilled life, full of actions and thoughts true to ourselves. We find enlightenment in philosophy, from
ourselves and others. There is always an inenarrable satisfaction when a new idea comes to us. Such is

Paranoid Personality Disorder is a disorder commonly mistaken for schizophrenic personality
disorders. Schizophrenia, a psychosis, is when a person is has an image of a world and its transpiring

Another possibility widely being speculated upon is the brain. In the brain, there are many chemicals,
and for the brain to function correctly, there must a balance of each type of chemical. As of now,
scientists don t know exactly which chemicals are responsible, but are optimistic.
There is also evidence suggesting that there is an increased possibility that someone with a relative

Paranoid Personality Disorder.
Among people in the United States, there is a relatively small percentage of people with this disorder.

Violent Video Games Do Not Cause Gun Violence
The killings in Marshall County High School, Kentucky. The slaughters in Marjory Stoneman
Douglas High School, Florida. The shootings in Great Mills High School, Maryland. All of these
tragedies are results of gun violence. But gun violence cannot just occur out of nowhere; there has to
be a cause. Many people believe that violent video games are the direct cause of abusing the power of
guns. But research has proven that this is not true; violent video games do not cause the actual school
shootings.
In Japan, statistics show that 90% of all children ages 10 14 have video games in their houses. In
America, the statistics are the same, 90% of all children play video games [PDF]. Similarly, 95% of all
children in France ages 10 14 play video games [PDF]. In fact, Japan even has Call of Duty and other
violent video games in its top 50 most played video games [PDF]. For France, Call of Duty and other
such violent video games have even made it to the top 10 most played video games of the year

The Boston University Archaeology Department Essay
On May 9th, 2016, the Boston University Archaeology Department held a public outreach event
called, Eating Archaeology , where guests were served foods from four different time periods and
places: Bronze age Mycenae, Bronze age China, Pre Columbian Mesoamerica, specifically the Aztecs,
and mid 19th century Boston. The creation of these dishes was made possible through analyzing
archaeological sites through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeology of the senses,
which studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how humans use
their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses, archaeologists can create a more
detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient humans (Hamilakis i). This new interest in the
sensory aspect of human culture brings a fascination with the types of foods that people consumed in
the past. With this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of archaeology, food history, and
gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material remains can be used to recreate
ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part of the culture that ate the dish,
illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that archaeology can be used to create something
tangible for the public. This paper will focus on the research process for the mid 19th century brothel
site, located in Boston, and how the materials gathered during excavation were used to reconstruct the

Medium Ground Finches
Medium ground finches are one of the 13 species of finches. These finches, the medium ground
finches have large beaks. You can find these finches at Daphne Major, in the center of Galapagos
island. Daphne Major is also located near South America in the South Pacific ocean.
Medium ground finches had small beaks before but changed over time. This was caused because of
evolution and survival of the fittest. When Charles Darwin came onto the island he wondered why
there were many different species of the finches, then he hypothesized that a group of finches might
have came in from South America. Then splitting of the finches and adapting into their environment to
have a better chance of surviving. The finches beaks helped with Darwin thinking

Gang Violence Essay
In society most people feel safe and do not have a sense of urgency that something appalling will
transpire around them. Although these people may hear about the surplus of current events going on
around the world today that may be abysmal they tend to not care because they perceive that it will not
arise around their home. Gang violence in youths is a prominent problem around numerous portions of
the world today. Youths are forced to go along with the engagements taken place in the gang which
can be cataclysmic to society and themselves. The life of a youth and their family can be altered by
just one simple decision to join a gang, put many people in danger of being hurt, however there are

This is noticeable because it not only affects the appearance of the youth but it also affects their
decisions. Due to the colossal amounts of drugs consumed by these teens they are habitually
subconscious while making decisions which leave them susceptible to constructing bad decisions. . It
is tough for a family of a youth in a gang but it is even tougher for the youth themselves to acclimate
to. Therefore as portrayed, it can be really overwhelming for both a youth and their family when their
child decides to join a gang. Gangs put society in an unsafe state filled with destruction. Lee states that
A twenty one year old man was stabbed to death by several gang members (2). This is just a portion of
the massive deterioration caused by a gang. Gangs tend to do things that are even more severe,
especially youth gangs. Hagdorn justifies this by stating youth gangs destroy society both mentally
and physically . (8) They destroy society physically by hurting people and killing innocent people.
The mental obliteration takes a more sophisticated method. They use stereotypical comments that
portray prejudice conceptions which pertain to mainly ethnic groups and different racial groups.
Cohan mentions that the number of street gang killings has risen up more than 50 % between 2005 to
2008 (1). This means many innocent people are losing their lives while doing their everyday routine
such as walking on the streets. If walking on the streets puts

This program s goal is to reduce the lure of gangs for young children. While the program has been

The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment
In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a
variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital to
the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek writes
that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching tool than the
academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the curriculum
(Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step procedure that
I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National Education Association s website. Sears article
suggests that a teacher get to know their students, individualize the curriculum, watch what they say,
and keep trying to reach students (Sears, 2014). As an attempt to get to know my students, I will create
a little survey on the first day of school for each student to fill out; questions would include asking my
students what their favorite color is or what type of books they like to read. By doing this, I will learn
about my students likes and dislikes and how to use their answer in the curriculum. Individualizing the
curriculum might seem like a huge undertaking but if a teacher is willing to work with the student, it is
not a big deal. For example, I was an auditory learner and I had a teacher who altered the project
requirements so I could write a song to

Grey s Anatomy Observation
Grey s Anatomy is a drama medical show that has been airing on TV since 2005. The show is based
on the surgical unit of Seattle Grace Hospital. Throughout the show, we have seen characters evolve
from interns to residents to fellows and to attendings and maybe if the character is lucky, they become
head of a surgical department. Characters also develop multiple relationships with their colleagues.
Some of these relationships are appropriate for the work setting like friendships while some are
inappropriate like having a romantic relationship with a colleague. Although I love Grey s Anatomy
and could binge watch it all the time, I believe that the sexual encounters characters have at the
hospital are unrealistic. Grey s Anatomy is a wonderful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lower ranked characters, like interns, are having romantic relationships with superior characters such
as attendings. We see this in the very first episode of the show. Meredith Grey, an intern, sleeps with
her boss so to speak, Derek Shepard, an attending. However, they hook up before knowing that either
of them work at the same hospital. In real life people would see this as sleeping with the boss to gain
special treatment such as getting to assist in more surgeries and better their education. Later in the
season, other interns find out that Meredith and Derek have had sexual encounters and they do believe
that she does it so she can assist on more surgeries. During multiple episodes characters would hook
up in the on call rooms. This is unrealistic because on call rooms are for people who need to sleep
over in case they are needed for an emergency. They are also used for people who are working a
double shift and would like to take a nap on one of their breaks. Characters in the show always seem
to find some free time to hook up in the on call rooms. Again, this is unrealistic because doctors are
always busy, especially surgeons. It is unlikely that two surgeons that like each other are going to have
a bit of free time at the same time. It is for these reasons why the sexual

By 1920, Abraham Whitfield was a successful surgeon. He was popular for his expertise in orthopedic
surgery, his name has become a household word. And with success comes the wealth he could only
dream of as a young struggling resident physician in his place of business. Thus, he lived the life of
comfort and built a Victorian mansion in the woods of Natick, Massachusetts. The mansion fronted a
sprawling garden of about 70 meters from the road. With his affordability, Abraham married Victoria

they died when they have been reported missing. The authorities found them lying neatly on their beds
either strangled or smothered with a pillow...except for Joseph. The youngest child was found inside
the broom closet under the stairs with a broken neck. It seemed he woke up in the middle of the night,
saw what was happening and ran to the closet to hide. Abraham found him when he heard a whimper
coming from under the stairs. He forced it open and broke his neck. No one knows what happened to
Abraham, a few believe he went in hiding, still, others think he killed himself somewhere in the
house...his body was never found.

  • 2. Examples Of Allusions In The Hollow Men T.S Eliot s The Hollow Men is a broad allegory for deliverance in a landscape reminiscent of purgatory. Eliot provides examples of allusion, imagery, and paradox to describe a fully realized apocalyptic scenario that affirms the hopelessness of a godless world. The poem begins two allusions: literary and historical. Mr. Kurtz he dead is reference to Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Kurtz was a man who had lost his humanity after traveling to Africa and succumbing to insanity. A penny for the old Guy is a question traditionally asked by children on November 5th in England. The question references Guy Fawkes, a British rebel infamous for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot , set to assassinate King James I. Both Kurtz and Fawkes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Why Is Michelangelo Important During The Renaissance During the renaissance there were quite a few significant people. One of those people was Michelangelo. He was a man of many skills and some of them include sculpting, painting, poetry, and even architecture. You ve most likely heard of, or even seen some of his work, since it is widely acknowledged today. Michelangelo was one of the most significant artists during the renaissance and here s why. Michelangelo was a very gifted sculptor. Some of his most recognizable sculptures would be the statue of Moses, the statue of David, and the statue Pieta. Many people consider him one of the greatest sculptors ever. Let s start with the statue of Moses. It is located in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome. The statue was built after Michelangelo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was able to chisel and paint very fine details such as veins, wrinkles, muscles, and bones into his art. The reason he achieved such realism was because as a young man he studied anatomy and dissected human corpses, which allowed him to gain a better understanding of the human body. Michelangelo also attended the Humanist academy where he studied some important philosophers and writers who influenced his art. Some of them include: Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, and Poliziano. Around the age of 16, he was also able to work with a sculptor named Bertoldo di Giovanni. Another thing that influenced Michelangelo s art style was his interest in Greek and Roman art. He brought back certain details in Greek and Roman art which also influenced other artists to paint art that wasn t Christian themed. He was a dedicated catholic, which inspired many of his ... • 5. Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a tool for an intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into poems themselves. It encourages metareflection and the use of dream visions within Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic device or a significant and divine vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an effective and fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The dreams in Troilus and Criseyde take various forms, altering shape under careful observation. Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or divulge hidden truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this dream is fabricated from the subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to acknowledge this, even to herself. These two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in Chaucer s work as it remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too was questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that can be seen to predict future theories of human understanding and dream interpretations. Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or in relation to the affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart of my body, and two where Criseida returns this expression. The wording implies the exchange of hearts, a motif only included in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire may have been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack on the woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice versa. Chaucer explores this motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which according to Medieval allegory and moral, received both favourable and unfavourable interpretations. Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh with severe ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde with physical harm. (II. 925 31) The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although I don t have strict schedule I agreed with my supervisor that it would be best to show up in the morning when most of the employees are working in order to communicate and work with them more efficiently. When it comes to responsibilities, the buildings and facilities tracking report is the most time consuming and demanding responsibility I have been assigned, as it requires me to follow several steps, pulling different reports from the accounting system to reconcile and later double check my work, taking at least one quarter of my time in the office monthly. Also, my responsibilities also require me to compile reports on information and the anticipated cost of future scientific conferences and identify and report ConcurGov rejects to travel specialist, both consuming about a tenth of my time in the office. Finally, the rest of my time is divided almost equally among special projects with the deputy director and the Chief of fiscal services that range from creating special documents on word and excel to double checking accounting in reports and getting trained by one of the specialist on what to do in special situations in the reports or doing individual training with FMMI courses on AgLearn. Oedipus Rex, Sophocles Oedipus the ideal Tragic Hero Kelli Richards Liberty University Abstract In the play Oedipus Rex, Sophocles portrays Oedipus who is also the main character, as a good natured, beautiful, noble yet narcissistic person who has a lapse of judgment and fall from power. Throughout the play Oedipus makes a few profound decisions for which he is condemned to plentiful suffering; thus making Oedipus fit the mold of a tragic hero if we agree with Aristotle that Oedipus misfortune happens strictly because of his tragic flaw. Aristotle, Using Oedipus as an ideal model, says that a tragic hero must be an important or influential man who has a lapse in judgment. Who then must suffer the consequences of his actions. The audience must learn a lesson from the tragic hero; a lesson of what happens when great men fall from their social or political positions. The tragic hero needs his errors in judgment for a phenomenal effect of audience realization to occur. Oedipus tries to prevent his terrible fate from occurring after it is prophesized to Laius, his father, early on; he leaves the city of his foster parents as a preventative measure. Oedipus is being punished for his parents actions. His birth parents once set out to seek the advice of the Delphi Oracle but the advice was gloom. They were told never to have children, but in spite of the warning Oedipus was born. Therefore from the beginning Oedipus is a tragic hero, his birth presents his destiny to result in tragedy. As with most tragedies Oedipus birth was noble which made his fall more intriguing to the audience. What use are my eyes to me, who could never See anything pleasant again? (Sophocles 1293) This statement is the realization of wrongdoing; it is not until now that Oedipus sees his own actions as wrong. There is a significant point of the play where the Herdsman tells Oedipus who his mother is and Oedipus replies Oh, oh, then everything has come out true. Light, I shall not look on ... Profitability ratios are used to measure the overall efficiency of thebusiness, as well as management effectiveness. Examples of profitability ratios include the gross margin ratio and the net margin ratios. Gross profit margin The gross profit margin measures the amount of profits that a company generates from its operations without consideration of its indirect costs. Thehigher thegross profit margin, the greater the efficiency of a company s operations (Besley Brigham 2007). It means that the company is generating enough income to cover its operating expenses. On the contrary, a lower gross profit margin indicates that the business is not generating adequate income to cover its operating expenses. • 11. Clifford Brown Character Traits Referred to as a Jazz singer, Sarah Vaughan exhibits her all rounded musical personality in her renowned album Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown. Although the title indicates that the album features influential trumpeter Clifford Brown, the singer is the indisputable focus, who enjoys accompaniments by a small, compact group of instrumentalists. Clifford Brown, also known as Brownie, with his restrained, graceful delivery, shares equal parts of solo with tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette and flutist Herbie Mann in most of the songs . His status among the instrumentalists was not accentuated when the album was recorded in the December of 1954. The original LP consists of nine tracks, including several classic Jazz standards with new attempts combining voice and instruments, two little recorded Jazz songs and two pop ballads. He can t force you and I to do anything that is outside our will or the will of God. All he can do is tempt you. He doesn t have that kind of authority over us, where he can make you do anything. The Bible says that we are drawn away by our own lusts when we do something that is outside of God s Word and will for our lives. You re drawn away because that s what you wanted to do, and then we try to find every excuse in the book to justify doing it. I m here to tell you that you ll never be able to qualify it. You will never ever be able to satisfy yourself with the thought I was justified in doing it if you re going to be a man of integrity. A man of integrity has nothing to hide, nothing to fear. You are always a stand up man, and you will always be an individual who others can depend and count on. But most of all, a man of integrity is always true to his word. When you make promises, keep them. Don t be a liar. A man of integrity is not a liar; he keeps his word. The Bible says in Psalm 15, When you re living with integrity, you ll tell the truth even when you re older. • 15. The Trend Of The American Hippie Movement Introduction The major trend of the American hippie movement from the 1960s had a major influence on the way New Zealand used drugs and how international trends still influence drug use today. Drug use patterns in New Zealand are very similar to other countries in the western world but also shows how some popular trends of Hard Drugs did not become a huge problem due to the isolation of New Zealand and how hard it was to bring in illegal drugs such as heroin. How international trends and ideals reach New Zealand show how easy it is to influence a large percentage of a population to try drugs, legal or not. The ideals of rebellion highlights the use of drugs because of the moral values and rules set by mainstream society and the government. It is and was an easy way to reject mainstream rules if you didn t want to live by them. The 1960s created a culture of mass following that rejected mainstream life and rules that promoted peace and love making the use of drugs morally okay because that is what they believed. As society moved on from hippie culture it introduced drugs that were highly addictive and dangerous, in comparison to the drugs that were widely used in the 60s and early 70s LSD and Marijuana have been the safest drugs to use. • 19. Evolutionary History of Gray Wolves Evolutionary History of Gray Wolves The gray wolf is one of the world s most well known and well researched animals with more documentation on them than any other wildlife species. It is a canid whose main habitats are in the wilderness of remote areas in North America, Eurasia and North Africa. It is the largest member of the wolf family, usually weighing between 70 and 120 lbs, and closely resembles in general appearance and proportions to a modern day breed of dog known as the German Sheppard, although they typically have a larger head, narrower chest, longer legs, straighter tails and bigger paws. The narrow chest of the gray wolf allows for swift and efficient movement through the common elements of their environment such as snow, brush and other conditions. Their larger heads indicate their higher level of intelligence and their large paws, webbed with fur aid in movement across mud and snow. The colour of a gray wolf s fur lives up to its name and is predominantly a mottled gray although the gray wolf can also have fur that is nearly pure white, mixes of red, brown, or black. Being very social animals, gray wolves do mostly everything in packs of 2 15 animals; living, traveling and hunting. At the plays beginning Macbeth is a loyal and honorable man who, unfortunately, is immensely ambitious. As the play progresses however, Macbeth begins to lose the honor that he held onto so dearly. Macbeths descent into dishonor is displayed in the two most prominent murders in the first 3 acts: the slaying of Duncan and the assassination of Banquo. When Lady Macbeth is convincing her husband to murder the king, the reader is able to detect his hesitation to commit such a heinous crime. Also, the remorse Macbeth feels after he murders Duncan proves that he still possesses some of that honor and loyalty he originally held in such high regard. However, when Macbeth has Banquo killed he has changed into a cold and evil man. He, Macbeth, no longer clings to his honor and loyalty. The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital to the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek writes that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching tool than the academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the curriculum (Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step procedure that I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National Education Association s website. • 39. Grey s Anatomy Observation Grey s Anatomy is a drama medical show that has been airing on TV since 2005. The show is based on the surgical unit of Seattle Grace Hospital. Throughout the show, we have seen characters evolve from interns to residents to fellows and to attendings and maybe if the character is lucky, they become head of a surgical department. Characters also develop multiple relationships with their colleagues. Some of these relationships are appropriate for the work setting like friendships while some are inappropriate like having a romantic relationship with a colleague. Although I love Grey s Anatomy and could binge watch it all the time, I believe that the sexual encounters characters have at the hospital are unrealistic. Grey s Anatomy is a wonderful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lower ranked characters, like interns, are having romantic relationships with superior characters such as attendings. We see this in the very first episode of the show. Meredith Grey, an intern, sleeps with her boss so to speak, Derek Shepard, an attending. However, they hook up before knowing that either of them work at the same hospital. In real life people would see this as sleeping with the boss to gain special treatment such as getting to assist in more surgeries and better their education. Later in the season, other interns find out that Meredith and Derek have had sexual encounters and they do believe that she does it so she can assist on more surgeries. During multiple episodes characters would hook up in the on call rooms. This is unrealistic because on call rooms are for people who need to sleep over in case they are needed for an emergency. They are also used for people who are working a double shift and would like to take a nap on one of their breaks. Characters in the show always seem to find some free time to hook up in the on call rooms. Again, this is unrealistic because doctors are always busy, especially surgeons. It is unlikely that two surgeons that like each other are going to have a bit of free time at the same time. It is for these reasons why the sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And with success comes the wealth he could only dream of as a young struggling resident physician in his place of business. Thus, he lived the life of comfort and built a Victorian mansion in the woods of Natick, Massachusetts. The mansion fronted a sprawling garden of about 70 meters from the road. With his affordability, Abraham married Victoria Mansfield, a beautiful young well bred lady, from a similarly wealthy family. Over time, Victoria bore him three children, the eldest was a girl named Freda and the two boys thereafter, named Andy and Joseph. Living a life of high culture, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story was handed down to me by my grandfather. Kele, who was Native American by descent, saw Sally sitting under one of the trees in the front yard. Sally found out Abraham was a doctor who was married to Victoria and had three kids. The bodies of his family were discovered a month after they died when they have been reported missing. The authorities found them lying neatly on their beds either strangled or smothered with a pillow...except for Joseph. The youngest child was found inside the broom closet under the stairs with a broken neck. It seemed he woke up in the middle of the night, saw what was happening and ran to the closet to hide. Abraham found him when he heard a whimper coming from under the stairs. He forced it open and broke his neck. No one knows what happened to Abraham, a few believe he went in hiding, still, others think he killed himself somewhere in the house...his body was never found. Chapter 8 Packing as fast as she could, Sally almost felt the joy of relief the semester break offered. She was going home. As she rode her car and maneuvered the pathway, she stopped to take one last look at the house and all the miseries it holds. Glancing up, she saw a man looking out the small window in the attic watching her leave. Now, at last, she knew who he was...and she knew too she was not coming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
