You Can Do This Annie. Be Brave. Essay example
When I wake up, I'm still in my trailer. I rub my eyes, and sit up. Stretching, I glance down at
myself and I do a double take. I'm wearing an old sea–green dress. It has short sleeves, a hem that
goes to my knees, and a fitted middle. On my feet are white canvas shoes that are scuffed at the
edges. I stand up, shaky, and walk to my mirror. My hair is parted in the middle, and I find that it's
been dyed a darker red and has been curled as well. Makeup, which makes me look younger, shows
on my face, and I spot sand between my fingernails. Confused, I walk as I look down at them until I
reach my door. Just as I open the door, a hot and steamy air pulses out at me. I step out, and I find
that I'm in a courtyard filled with people. A stone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes me want to run my hands through it. Finnick catches me watching him, and half of his
mouth smiles a hair. It returns to it's original position once a vibrantly dressed woman with a tall wig
and pale face teeters in her eight–inch heels on the stage. "Welcome, welcome, welcome! Happy
Hunger Games! May the odds be ever in your favor!" She says into a microphone, reminding me
tremendously of Effie Trinket. "Now, before I choose, we have a very special film for you, brought
to you from the Capitol!" The video plays, retelling the whole District of how the Hunger Games
begin. I pretend I'm paying attention, but in all honesty, I'm not. I'm more focused on what's ahead,
and what's going to happen to me. I don't even realized the video has stopped playing until the
woman onstage says how much she loved that video and says: "Now, ladies first." She clicks up to
the ball with the girls' names in it, and fishes around for a while before picking one name. Holding it
in a gloved hand, she trots up to the microphone and opens it. "Annie Cresta." She says, looking up
from the paper. I pretend to be shocked and I stand in place, staring out into space. "Annie?"
Someone shoves me forward, and I slowly come back to myself. Shaking, I step forward out of the
crowd to hear my fake parents sob. I walk slowly in my soft shoes, looking at the ground the entire
time. Two Peacekeepers usher me onto the stage, and I stand next to the woman, my hands clasped
behind my back. I

Michelle Obama Speech Rhetorical Devices
In "Remarks to the NAACP National Convention", Michelle Obama spoke about how obesity in
children has become a huge medical issue. She thoroughly explains her "Let's Move" campaign,
while using pathos and logos as rhetorical devices. The audience that attended were mostly parents
that grew up in the same generation as Mrs. Obama. She related to them as she jokes about their
past. She expressed her message while including the audience by saying "we" or "our". In addition,
her being family–minded helped reach her ideas out to other parents as they are dealing with the
same issues. Mrs. Obama understood what type of audience made an appearance and made them
feel valuable. Instead of generalizing the audience as one, she spoke to them as "you". ... Show more

Obama uses is pathos. Throughout her speech, she is influencing the audience's emotions with
pathos. Right in the beginning she thanked the audience for all their hard work and for coming out
to the convention, making the audience feel narcissist. Michelle Obama told the audience, "First of
all, thank you for being here today and thank you for the outstanding work that you've done in
making this is a great American institution" (418). The audience now feels as if they are making a
difference and everything that they are doing is improving the nation. Once they feel that way, the
people will feel more motivated to go out and accomplish more. Mrs. Obama also used the same
strategy towards the end of her speech when she got the audience involved with the movement. Mrs.
Obama announced, "I'm going to need you, NAACP. This is not an endeavor that I can do by
myself. We cannot change the health of our community alone. I'm going to need each and every
single one of you to work together for this campaign for our children's future" (432). Mrs. Obama is
encouraging the crowd to make a difference and support her campaign. Not only did she make the
audience feel narcissist, she also made them feel

The one leader's commitment to the field of healthcare I would estimate on is Michelle Obama.
Michel would characterize her administration style as the First Lady of the United States, by
utilizing her position in people, in the generals eye to address the issue of adolescence obesity. Her
program Let's Move!, propelled in 2010, was focused on closure the epidemic of adolescence
obesity in one era. Today, 33% of all kids in the United States are overweight and will probably
confront diabetes or other obesity related medical issues later in their lives. The First Lady requested
that Americans consider how national uses on weight related conditions, at present about $190
billion every year, will increase if the condition of the country's wellbeing doesn't change. The Let's

nutritious, moderate nourishment; providing healthy foods in schools; and urging children to be all
the more physically active. The program started to see improvements in the spring of 2014, when

kids and I expect everyone to be like that too, but Oprah is not. She wants to live for herself instead
of focusing too much on the life of someone else. That's something people should think about before
committing to such a life–changing thing such as marriage.

A Short Story : A Story Of A Story
Stories. We hear them all the time. For most of us, we're introduced to the concept of storytelling
from a very young age, when our parents would tell us bedtime stories. For others, we weren't so
lucky as to have had this privilege. I can most definitely say that I wasn't one of those kids with this
privilege, so what would I do instead? I would create my own stories, and relay them through my
mind. Believe it or not, I got really good at storytelling. That is exactly why I'm going to tell you all
a story today. Nothing ordinary, and nothing out–of–the ordinary. Simply, a story that you won't be
able to forget. ~~~~ We're in Pakistan, particularly the Punjab region. I understand that many of you
cannot visualise this specifically, so think of it with dirt roads, rows of cement houses, and worn–
down motorcycles everywhere. Now, you're standing in small room in a cement house, roughly the
size of an average washroom. You look around and notice broken lights hanging down from the
wall, tool kits of thread and sewing materials, and a small woven stool to sit on. But, you turn to sit
down when you notice a young girl already there. Let's take a minute to describe her. She's wearing
traditional clothing, a salwar kameez, as they call it in Urdu. She's holding a half–sewn shoe sole in
her right hand and a needle with thread in the other. She's silently and determinedly working in the
corner of the poorly–lighted room. Oh, how rude of me. Let's give 'her' a name – how about

Celebrity Culture and Fashion Trends
Although celebrity culture is typically associated with actors and actress, consumers may also rely
on the trustfulness and credibility of politicians and first wives when deciding fashion trends. In the
1960s, fashion icon Jackie Kennedy took over the fashion industry (Joel 1). She appealed to many
stay–at–home women because she was commonly known to have a "sophisticated simplicity" (Joel
1) approach to fashion. Her successor, First Lady Michelle Obama has instantly become a fashion
icon herself as well. She is commonly seen wearing American designers therefore pushing "the
American fashion industry into the international spotlight" (Givhan 1). People are often so draw to
her style because it gives a glance into her personal life. As Givhan states, "Obama's clothes have
connected with the public in contemporary terms, in the language of Hollywood's glamour, Seventh
Avenue's bold entrepreneurship and the democracy of the mass market" (Givhan 1). In March 2009,
Michelle Obama appeared on the cover of US Vogue which showcased her "dress, style, and poise"
(Gibson 40). Brett Schenck, president of Hart Schaffner Marx states, "It's usually the frenzy behind
the first lady" (Jones), but in the some instances, President Obama has also made an impact on the
fashion industry. In the summer of 2009, designer Donatella Versace created a runway show that
was designed and dedicated to him. The clothes she created where inspired by President Obama

A Report From Unesco Of A Good Education For Girls Essay
Dr. Martin Luther King once said "no one is free until we are all free". This idea sounds very simple,
but it lays a profound message to many different events and issues that are happening around us,
including many big challenges to the world such as racial and ethnic discrimination. However, there
is a sub issue to those challenges that we rarely think of it as a discrimination – girls' education. By
investing in a good education for girls all over the world – teaching them how to empower
themselves, we are contributing to eliminate discrimination and empower the world.
A report from UNESCO in October 2013 shows some shocking statistics about girls and women
around the world. There are 1.8 billion young people in the world. Approximately half of them –
900 million – are adolescent girls and young women, but 62 millions girls worldwide are not in
school. As a result, they lack the basic skills for work: Two–thirds of the 774 million illiterate people
in the world are female. This will have some lifelong effects. Girls will face limited opportunities
and choices in the job market. They lack basic health knowledge and will be subjected to serious
health risks, and threatened by violence. They don't know about their basic rights, so their views and
concerns are often unheard. These three effects are enough to prove that girls are discriminated
against as females Therefore, if education is the key to their future, what doors can it open for those
girls? They will be less likely

A Day That Changed My Life
Living a life where there is something that will always haunt me. Leaving me horrified every time I
look down a road or if I see people on bikes. A day that is so real to me, leaving me terrified. A day
that took my soul away leaving me with no light to spare looking for a way to get out. A day that
made my life different from what it is today, which happened nine years ago. It happened on an
evening in June, just as the sun was setting. Outside on top of the hill just right down the road from
my house. It was me and my bike, I was very dare devilish when I was young; I did anything that
was impossible and made it possible, but this day killed my every will to want, have, especially to
do devilish things again. A day that changed my life A kid like me riding the streets on my purple
bike. It wasn't just any old bike; this bike was my life. I rode on it every day like it was no bodies
business. Feeling the luscious wind blowing though my hair and feeling the soft breeze on my skin.
I felt like I was on top of the world. Until this horrendous day happened, the big fall of my life. It
was like any old day; the sun was setting; the street lights were on. The trees were still, even the
monkeys from the zoo stopped howling. Playing with my sisters riding our bikes having a good old
time. Laughing and playing around my head turn for a second noticing a hill. As I was looking up
the dark rocky hill an idea popped in to my head. It was like a light bulb just went off, my eyes were

The First Lady. Obama
The First Lady When I first saw Michelle Obama it was in 2007 during the election trail. I did not
really know much about her then, because I was only in the 5th grade and I was more into dolls and
Disney channel than watching politics. I would hear my mother talk about her, but that is the most
that I would know about her for a while. I started to really notice her win I started to see her on
Nickelodeon and Disney Channel when she would do her guest appearance on some shows. I than
started to hear about some of her works on fitness in America and the obesity rates. When
Nickelodeon would have their Worldwide Day of play I would see some of the interviews that she
would do. I started to hear about her food regulations that she has put through and heard some
people and students complain about. Michelle Obama is a very smart woman and she is trying to get
people to see that having good health can help them succeed. In all actuality she is there and doing
somethings that other First Ladies have not done and is which in some ways she is a great First
Lady. She is a woman to look up to for a few reasons. Michelle Obama has been working to help
people and bring awareness to mental health issues. Some people may ask why they should listen to

Analysis Of The Movie ' Waiting For Superman '
Danny kinder–key Waiting for Superman
2010 Mr. Davis Guggenheim–an American film director and producer wrote and directed Waiting
for "Superman", a documentary that deals with the American education system. Guggenheim argues
that they are failing more each year in producing successful students. He finds where the faults are
within the public educational system. He takes the time to show us some of the faces to those
numbers to make his pubic realize they are more than just numbers dropping off the charts. He
wishes to not only inform, but also to inspire others to act. This essay expresses how he portrays his
arguments effectively; also identifying and analyzing the strategies that Guggenheim uses to
organize and develop his ideas and determine who his intended audience is.
Guggenheim successfully persuades his audience, first by using the ethos appeal. He does this by
opening his film by explaining that as parent, he also worries and cares for the success of his own
children and is very aware of the degradation of the public education. He is also being fair–minded
as he opens up about a previous film he created where he was actually supporting the idea that
public schools worked. Although he held those beliefs up so highly once, he's now changed opinion.
Guggenheim sincerely expressing why this has happened saying, "Ten years later, it was time to

Theme Of Education In Waiting For Superman
Each and every day, children are born with fresh, impressionable minds with a whole world of
opportunities in front of them. Society's duty is to make sure that each child is being raised to
perform and succeed at their full potential; however, a problem lies within one of the most impactful
places a child will go throughout many years of their life. Education has always been a way for
children, teenagers, and even adults to expand their knowledge and help grow their curiosity.
However, as time goes on, problems have arose that are not allowing children to learn at their full
potential. In Davis Guggenheim's film, Waiting For Superman, he perfectly captures the harsh
reality of public education today. He follows the lives of five students, all who wish to have a bright
future, yet are struggling to reach it because of the schooling they are receiving. Throughout
Guggenheim's film, his use of music and pathos help to not only emphasize the problems within
public schooling, but to also give his viewers an emotional connection with his characters. To begin
with, music is one of the most prominent elements seen throughout Guggenheim's film. One of the
most important scenes is when Michelle Rhee, Chancellor of Washington D.C. public schools, is
attempting to pass a reform that may change public education forever. However, the local union
leadership found Rhee's proposal so threatening, that they did not even vote on it. This scene shows
the heartbreak for not only Michelle, but

Summary Of Michelle Obama Speech
During his presidency, Barack Obama said that by the year 2020, America would have the highest
college graduation rate. In Michelle Obama's speech, "Remarks by the First Lady at Education
Event with DC High School Sophomores," she speaks to students at Bell High school. These high
school sophomores come from many different social and economics backgrounds. Many of these
students do not live privileged lives and cannot afford higher education. Obama discusses the
importance of college education and how students should prepare for it during high school, even
with limited resources. She tells the students her own personal experiences as well as inspiring and
calling them to pursue a higher education. Michelle Obama's speech appeals to the student's hopes
and dreams for the future, exhorting them to set themselves up for success. The use of parallelism, a
rhetorical device in which the writer repeats the same sentence structure or part of speech, in
Michelle Obama's speech makes every student feel like they can relate to what Obama is saying as
well as understand where others come from. One example of parallelism is seen when Obama talks
about student's possible backgrounds. "Maybe you've had problems at home ... Maybe you've come
from a tough neighborhood ... Maybe one of your parents has lost a job and you've had to struggle
just to make it here today" (Obama). She repeats the sentence structure of "maybe .... you've ...,"

Hudsucker Proxy, No Country For Old Men And The Coen Brothers
The movie "The Hudsucker Proxy, No Country for Old Men, Blood Simple and Raising Arizona"
were all directed by the "Coen Brothers" a duo of filmmakers. Every film that the Coens have made,
the story usually starts out with an average Joe who gets involved in a complex scheme that appears
to be simple at first, but, in all reality, is totally beyond them. Violence, death, and murder are
usually common within their films as well. In "No Country For Old Men, the middleman kills
almost every single person that stands in his way. In the movie "The Hudsucker proxy" a business
man committed suicide by jumping out of a window within the first ten minutes of the movie. The
Coen Brothers have proven to fit the Auteur Theory because of the similarities of their films that
they have directed and written as well as their consistency. The movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon" is a motion picture fantasy drama that falls under the Genre action/adventure. The film
gained so much popularity in Asia, managed to make its way to the United States and win four
Academy Awards. One could compare it to the movies "Kill Bill Vol 1, Kill Bill Volume 2, and The
Gladiator". In all three movies, swords of different styles are used in multiple ways. Each individual
film includes scenes of vengeance, assassins, battles, murder and triumph. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon" is an example of "Classical" in the cycle of Genre's, because the film sets a tone for the
usual expectations. There were

College Admissions Essay: The Person Who Inspired Me
The Person Who Inspired Me When people ask me who has inspired me most, I respond to them
"My mother is my hero." My mother, Habiba Yarow, is amazing. To put that in perspective, when
my father passed, she took care of nine children and she was the most loving person that I have ever
seen. She is ready to help us whenever we need her. My mother is caring, loving, and kind to us and
to our neighbors. Since my father passed away before my mom had me, she has been the only one
who cared for my siblings and me. Growing up in a refugee camp in Kenya was the hardest
experience that I have ever had. My mom is the most hardworking woman that I have ever seen.
Therefore, she did everything from chopping wood to selling groceries to ensuring an education for
her children. In addition, she always finds time for everyone during difficult times. She never turns
anybody down. My mom taught both my siblings and me good morals. My mother taught me how

The Use Of Food And Beverage Advertising In Public Schools
The use of food and beverage advertising in schools greatly impacts the purchasing behavior of
youth. With the abundance of advertisements plastered around elementary, middle, and high schools,
students believe that the foods and beverages advertised in their schools are what should be
purchasing and consuming. Advertisements directed at children in schools are misleading. Children
think it's okay to eat these food and drink these beverages because they see the advertisements in a
place of learning, a place where they believe whatever is taught to them is correct. During the
Obama administration, food and beverage advertising was a controversial topic in regards to First
Lady, Michelle Obama. Food and beverage promotion can be found almost everywhere on school
grounds. Schools have food and beverage sponsors, like local restaurants and beverage companies
that advertise in the lunchroom and even scoreboards in high schools ("Michelle"). According to a
study completed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), "93% of marketing in
schools, or $149 million, is related to beverages, and many soda companies already have started to
transition their sales and advertising in schools from sugary sodas and sports drinks to their own
healthier products ("Michelle"). Most people encompass the common misconception that most food
marketing in schools are done through the lunch program; rather, most of food and beverage
marketing is completed through athletic booster

Racism And Racism
Racism is one of the most persistent social problems that has been devaluing our society for quite a
long time.In the modern world however, many policies have been implemented to ensure that racism
has been stopped owing to various humanitarian reasons. For some reason however, racism still
exists though in indirect means such as comic book, films and even curriculum books. These sources
can easily influence readers or people who often interact with them. In this case for example, the
librarian of Massachusetts elementary school believes that the books written by Dr. Seuss are racist
and for that reason students should not be allowed to consume the content in the books. For that
reason, the librarian rejects donations from Melania Trump while were books authored by Dr. Seuss.
The librarian affirms that the author's books are characterized by racist ideologies and propaganda.
The reaction of the librarian was somewhat unexpected since the first lady claims to be using her
affluence as a platform to reach out to as many children as possible. It was only unfortunate that this
time she stumbled on a block. Melania claims that since her husband assumed the office of
presidency, she has been sending literature books to children across the country and never
encountered such a case previously. From the first lady's point of view, it is unfortunate for the
librarian to turn her kind gesture to a divisive act. Melania further states that there were no intended
intentions but help the

The Importance Of Literacy
Literacy or the ability to read and write is not only very important but it is a necessity in dealing the
everyday life. It is like breathing, you need it so you don't even think about what it's like not being
able to read or write. Everything we do in based on reading in this world, yet there are 32 million
adults in the U.S. that can't read. The power of literacy lies not just in the ability to read and write,
but rather in a person's capacity to apply these skills to effectively connect, interpret and discern the
complexities of the world in which they live.
Literacy is about more than just words and meaning, it affects peoples' lives directly, impacting their
chances of employment and a descent level of income. The effects of globalization and free trade,
better communication and information technologies, and the rise of societies that use knowledge and
information have resulted in a growing demand for highly skilled workers. Not only has literacy
become very important in the U.S some have started programs to get kids more involved in reading.
Michelle Obama has been very involved in helping get the message out about how important
reading and education in general is for future generations.

Oprah Winfrey's Speech at Stanford Graduation 2008

Oprah Winfrey
Stanford University Graduation 2008
This speech was about three lessons that Oprah Winfrey has come across in her professional and
personal life. She talked about striving to be yourself and not anyone else and how you can grasp
failure and turn it around by embracing it and finding the solution, and lastly how happiness comes
when you give back to others.
Her first lesson was about striving to be your own self; she talked about in the beginning of her
professional career when she had a job in Baltimore as a news anchor. She was constantly holding
Barbara Walters as the image she wanted to be in her career and wanted to be like. So she was

She expressed that giving back is the greatest lesson of all to her. She talked about how in her career
how she has given back in numerous amounts of ways and gave advice for whenever you're in a
mess, you help someone else get out of a mess... whenever you are in pain, help someone else in
pain, whenever you have a loss help someone else with a loss.... She talked about how the founders
of Stanford University lost their son and how they took their pain and sorrow and channeled it into
grace and started the University and helped other people with children like their son. She told the
students that whatever their career may be that they use their ability to help others and pass along
greatness. She ended with a Martin Luther King, Jr. quote.

How Does Michelle Obama Use Ethos In Equal Rights For Women
The two speeches I will be comparing in this essay are Michelle Obama's Speech at the 2016
Democratic National Convention and Shirley Chisholm's "Equal Rights For Women" Speech
because in my opinion they're great speeches and they both used the appeals in the rhetorical
triangle in order to prove their point and convince the audience. They both reach out to the audience
by the choice of words they use and the way they word their sentences. Michelle Obama's speech
she mainly uses all three rhetorical appeals – logos, pathos, and ethos. Shirley Chisholm's speech
uses two of the three rhetorical triangle appeals – pathos, and ethos.
The central message of Michelle Obama's speech is that children are the ones that will help shape
the future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example of why I believe this is because she uses powerful statements such as "We know
that our words and actions matter not just to our girls, but to children across this country – kids who
tell us, 'I saw you on TV, I wrote a report on you for school.' Kids like the little black boy who
looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope, and he wondered, 'Is my hair like yours.?'" By
saying that people's actions matter to children she's capable of making the audience feel
compassionate, she also shows that she doesn't care about herself that much, she keeps putting
children and everyone else in the country before herself. When she says "The little black boy who
looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope" she helps the audience see how children hope to
be like certain adults when they grow up because children tend to want to grow up and be like their
role models. Another great example to why I believe her speech was better at persuading her target
is when she states "Police officers and protesters in Dallas who all desperately want to keep our
children safe. People who lined up in Orlando to donate blood because it could have been their son,
their daughter in that club. Leaders like Tim Kaine – who show our kids what decency and devotion

Michelle Obama Speech Analysis
In the midst of the 2016 election, First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama gave a speech in
New Hampshire regarding the candidates. Donald Trump was facing Hillary Clinton; and in support,
"Michelle Obama presented a Speech On Donald Trump's Alleged Treatment Of Women." As stated
in the title, Trump had recently made rude remarks regarding women, and Michelle Obama was
using this as a learning lesson for anyone looking to vote for Trump. She made it a point to vote for
Hillary by not only stating why not to vote for Trump, but also listing her many accomplishments

strongly stating Trump's wrongdoings, passionately listing Clinton's achievements, and frightening
us of the possible future for our children.
Obama's reasoning develops ideas that help connect her claim and evidence using the rhetoric

shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And last week I saw this
candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women," (Obama, 2016). Obama explains the

Analysis Of The Poem ' Riptide ' By Vance Joy
Riptide, by Vance Joy, is filled with metaphors, which tell the tale of someone they love running

music. This song can be used as entertainment and as human expression. The reason I find this song
comfortable is due to the memories and feelings that I associate to the song. This piece is
comfortable to me by reminding me of a more uncomfortable and nervous time in my life. I spent a
semester in Denmark going to an immersion school. I remember the feeling of being in a new
culture, being very confused, and very far outside my comfort zone. I think of riding on trains and
watching everything fly by because that was what I was doing while listening to this song. Vance

You Can Do This Annie. Be Brave. Essay Example

  • 1. You Can Do This Annie. Be Brave. Essay example When I wake up, I'm still in my trailer. I rub my eyes, and sit up. Stretching, I glance down at myself and I do a double take. I'm wearing an old sea–green dress. It has short sleeves, a hem that goes to my knees, and a fitted middle. On my feet are white canvas shoes that are scuffed at the edges. I stand up, shaky, and walk to my mirror. My hair is parted in the middle, and I find that it's been dyed a darker red and has been curled as well. Makeup, which makes me look younger, shows on my face, and I spot sand between my fingernails. Confused, I walk as I look down at them until I reach my door. Just as I open the door, a hot and steamy air pulses out at me. I step out, and I find that I'm in a courtyard filled with people. A stone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes me want to run my hands through it. Finnick catches me watching him, and half of his mouth smiles a hair. It returns to it's original position once a vibrantly dressed woman with a tall wig and pale face teeters in her eight–inch heels on the stage. "Welcome, welcome, welcome! Happy Hunger Games! May the odds be ever in your favor!" She says into a microphone, reminding me tremendously of Effie Trinket. "Now, before I choose, we have a very special film for you, brought to you from the Capitol!" The video plays, retelling the whole District of how the Hunger Games begin. I pretend I'm paying attention, but in all honesty, I'm not. I'm more focused on what's ahead, and what's going to happen to me. I don't even realized the video has stopped playing until the woman onstage says how much she loved that video and says: "Now, ladies first." She clicks up to the ball with the girls' names in it, and fishes around for a while before picking one name. Holding it in a gloved hand, she trots up to the microphone and opens it. "Annie Cresta." She says, looking up from the paper. I pretend to be shocked and I stand in place, staring out into space. "Annie?" Someone shoves me forward, and I slowly come back to myself. Shaking, I step forward out of the crowd to hear my fake parents sob. I walk slowly in my soft shoes, looking at the ground the entire time. Two Peacekeepers usher me onto the stage, and I stand next to the woman, my hands clasped behind my back. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Michelle Obama Speech Rhetorical Devices In "Remarks to the NAACP National Convention", Michelle Obama spoke about how obesity in children has become a huge medical issue. She thoroughly explains her "Let's Move" campaign, while using pathos and logos as rhetorical devices. The audience that attended were mostly parents that grew up in the same generation as Mrs. Obama. She related to them as she jokes about their past. In addition, her being family–minded helped reach her ideas out to other parents as they are dealing with the same issues. The audience now feels as if they are making a difference and everything that they are doing is improving the nation. Once they feel that way, the people will feel more motivated to go out and accomplish more. Mrs. Obama also used the same strategy towards the end of her speech when she got the audience involved with the movement. Mrs. Obama announced, "I'm going to need you, NAACP. This is not an endeavor that I can do by myself. We cannot change the health of our community alone. I'm going to need each and every single one of you to work together for this campaign for our children's future" (432). • 9. A Short Story : A Story Of A Story Stories. We hear them all the time. For most of us, we're introduced to the concept of storytelling from a very young age, when our parents would tell us bedtime stories. For others, we weren't so lucky as to have had this privilege. I can most definitely say that I wasn't one of those kids with this privilege, so what would I do instead? I would create my own stories, and relay them through my mind. Believe it or not, I got really good at storytelling. That is exactly why I'm going to tell you all a story today. Nothing ordinary, and nothing out–of–the ordinary. Simply, a story that you won't be able to forget. ~~~~ We're in Pakistan, particularly the Punjab region. I understand that many of you cannot visualise this specifically, so think of it with dirt roads, rows of cement houses, and worn– down motorcycles everywhere. Now, you're standing in small room in a cement house, roughly the size of an average washroom. You look around and notice broken lights hanging down from the wall, tool kits of thread and sewing materials, and a small woven stool to sit on. But, you turn to sit down when you notice a young girl already there. Let's take a minute to describe her. She's wearing traditional clothing, a salwar kameez, as they call it in Urdu. She's holding a half–sewn shoe sole in her right hand and a needle with thread in the other. She's silently and determinedly working in the corner of the poorly–lighted room. Oh, how rude of me. Celebrity Culture and Fashion Trends Although celebrity culture is typically associated with actors and actress, consumers may also rely on the trustfulness and credibility of politicians and first wives when deciding fashion trends. In the 1960s, fashion icon Jackie Kennedy took over the fashion industry (Joel 1). She appealed to many stay–at–home women because she was commonly known to have a "sophisticated simplicity" (Joel 1) approach to fashion. Her successor, First Lady Michelle Obama has instantly become a fashion icon herself as well. She is commonly seen wearing American designers therefore pushing "the American fashion industry into the international spotlight" (Givhan 1). People are often so draw to her style because it gives a glance into her personal life. As Givhan states, "Obama's clothes have connected with the public in contemporary terms, in the language of Hollywood's glamour, Seventh Avenue's bold entrepreneurship and the democracy of the mass market" (Givhan 1). In March 2009, Michelle Obama appeared on the cover of US Vogue which showcased her "dress, style, and poise" (Gibson 40). Brett Schenck, president of Hart Schaffner Marx states, "It's usually the frenzy behind the first lady" (Jones), but in the some instances, President Obama has also made an impact on the fashion industry. However, there is a sub issue to those challenges that we rarely think of it as a discrimination – girls' education. By investing in a good education for girls all over the world – teaching them how to empower themselves, we are contributing to eliminate discrimination and empower the world. A report from UNESCO in October 2013 shows some shocking statistics about girls and women around the world. There are 1.8 billion young people in the world. Approximately half of them – 900 million – are adolescent girls and young women, but 62 millions girls worldwide are not in school. As a result, they lack the basic skills for work: Two–thirds of the 774 million illiterate people in the world are female. This will have some lifelong effects. Girls will face limited opportunities and choices in the job market. They lack basic health knowledge and will be subjected to serious health risks, and threatened by violence. They don't know about their basic rights, so their views and concerns are often unheard. These three effects are enough to prove that girls are discriminated against as females Therefore, if education is the key to their future, what doors can it open for those girls? They will be less likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A day that is so real to me, leaving me terrified. A day that took my soul away leaving me with no light to spare looking for a way to get out. A day that made my life different from what it is today, which happened nine years ago. It happened on an evening in June, just as the sun was setting. Outside on top of the hill just right down the road from my house. It was me and my bike, I was very dare devilish when I was young; I did anything that was impossible and made it possible, but this day killed my every will to want, have, especially to do devilish things again. A day that changed my life A kid like me riding the streets on my purple bike. It wasn't just any old bike; this bike was my life. I rode on it every day like it was no bodies business. Feeling the luscious wind blowing though my hair and feeling the soft breeze on my skin. I felt like I was on top of the world. Until this horrendous day happened, the big fall of my life. It was like any old day; the sun was setting; the street lights were on. The trees were still, even the monkeys from the zoo stopped howling. Playing with my sisters riding our bikes having a good old time. Laughing and playing around my head turn for a second noticing a hill. As I was looking up the dark rocky hill an idea popped in to my head. It was like a light bulb just went off, my eyes were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did not really know much about her then, because I was only in the 5th grade and I was more into dolls and Disney channel than watching politics. I would hear my mother talk about her, but that is the most that I would know about her for a while. I started to really notice her win I started to see her on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel when she would do her guest appearance on some shows. I than started to hear about some of her works on fitness in America and the obesity rates. When Nickelodeon would have their Worldwide Day of play I would see some of the interviews that she would do. I started to hear about her food regulations that she has put through and heard some people and students complain about. Michelle Obama is a very smart woman and she is trying to get people to see that having good health can help them succeed. In all actuality she is there and doing somethings that other First Ladies have not done and is which in some ways she is a great First Lady. She is a woman to look up to for a few reasons. Society's duty is to make sure that each child is being raised to perform and succeed at their full potential; however, a problem lies within one of the most impactful places a child will go throughout many years of their life. Education has always been a way for children, teenagers, and even adults to expand their knowledge and help grow their curiosity. However, as time goes on, problems have arose that are not allowing children to learn at their full potential. In Davis Guggenheim's film, Waiting For Superman, he perfectly captures the harsh reality of public education today. He follows the lives of five students, all who wish to have a bright future, yet are struggling to reach it because of the schooling they are receiving. Throughout Guggenheim's film, his use of music and pathos help to not only emphasize the problems within public schooling, but to also give his viewers an emotional connection with his characters. To begin with, music is one of the most prominent elements seen throughout Guggenheim's film. One of the most important scenes is when Michelle Rhee, Chancellor of Washington D.C. public schools, is attempting to pass a reform that may change public education forever. In Michelle Obama's speech, "Remarks by the First Lady at Education Event with DC High School Sophomores," she speaks to students at Bell High school. These high school sophomores come from many different social and economics backgrounds. Many of these students do not live privileged lives and cannot afford higher education. • 65. How Does Michelle Obama Use Ethos In Equal Rights For Women The two speeches I will be comparing in this essay are Michelle Obama's Speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention and Shirley Chisholm's "Equal Rights For Women" Speech because in my opinion they're great speeches and they both used the appeals in the rhetorical triangle in order to prove their point and convince the audience. They both reach out to the audience by the choice of words they use and the way they word their sentences. Michelle Obama's speech she mainly uses all three rhetorical appeals – logos, pathos, and ethos. Shirley Chisholm's speech uses two of the three rhetorical triangle appeals – pathos, and ethos. The central message of Michelle Obama's speech is that children are the ones that will help shape the future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example of why I believe this is because she uses powerful statements such as "We know that our words and actions matter not just to our girls, but to children across this country – kids who tell us, 'I saw you on TV, I wrote a report on you for school.' Kids like the little black boy who looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope, and he wondered, 'Is my hair like yours.?'" By saying that people's actions matter to children she's capable of making the audience feel compassionate, she also shows that she doesn't care about herself that much, she keeps putting children and everyone else in the country before herself. When she says "The little black boy who looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope" she helps the audience see how children hope to be like certain adults when they grow up because children tend to want to grow up and be like their role models. Another great example to why I believe her speech was better at persuading her target is when she states "Police officers and protesters in Dallas who all desperately want to keep our children safe. People who lined up in Orlando to donate blood because it could have been their son, their daughter in that club. Leaders like Tim Kaine – who show our kids what decency and devotion looks ... • 77. Analysis Of The Poem ' Riptide ' By Vance Joy Riptide, by Vance Joy, is filled with metaphors, which tell the tale of someone they love running towards danger. Vance Joy writes indie folk music, a mix between traditional folk, country, and rock music. This song can be used as entertainment and as human expression. The reason I find this song comfortable is due to the memories and feelings that I associate to the song. This piece is comfortable to me by reminding me of a more uncomfortable and nervous time in my life. I spent a semester in Denmark going to an immersion school. I remember the feeling of being in a new culture, being very confused, and very far outside my comfort zone. I think of riding on trains and watching everything fly by because that was what I was doing while listening to this song. Vance Joy was born in 1987, and raised in Melbourne, Australia as James Keough. He found his stage name in a book by a famous Australian author, Peter Carey. Before his career in music, Vance Joy played Football in the Victorian Football League, and won an award for best first player in 2008. He attended Melbourne's Monash University and received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree. Since then, he has released an EP in 2013, and a year later debuted his first album. Riptide was the result of Vance Joy's stream of conscious. He started writing the song in 2008 but didn't complete more than two lines. Four years later, he picked up where he left off, and the chords and lyrics came to him easily. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
