Introduction to ArtificiaI Intelligence in Higher Education
Location / Reconnaissance
1. Location/Reconnaissance
One place my partner and I have decided to use in our horror film
trailer is a graveyard. One reason we decided to use this is
because of the connotations of graveyards being scary places, and
we believe this would create fear in our audiences. Also, it reveals
to the audience that someone has passed away, making them
wonder who it was and how it happened. This creates suspense
and makes the
audience intrigued to
find out more about
the film, convincing
them to watch it.
Another idea we have is to use a train station in order to create
horror for the audience as they may believe that the protagonist is
going to harm herself. We also had an idea that at this train
station, she would see her deceased boyfriend and follow him
around; for the audience to find out that this was then a
hallucination. However, because of difficulties getting this location,
we decided to change
the location to a grimy
alleyway. This would
make the audience feel
anxious for our
protagonist as it would
be difficult to see what’s
around the corner and
what’s going to happen
to them.
The main part of our film trailer will take place in various rooms of
a house. In the bedroom, we will film our antagonist having various
2. hallucinations and nightmares, along
with killing her boyfriend. It is also
conventional for teenagers to be
sexualised in horror films, so seeing
Marie and Jamie in a bedroom would
reassure audiences of their relationship
status. In the conservatory of the house,
we will see Marie taking various drugs
and alcohol combinations in an attempt to
take away her pain. This would be
effective because the audience would
sympathise with her and see the
seriousness of her disorder. The
bathroom would also allow us to
showcase one of our protagonists’
hallucinations where she believes her
bath fills with blood.
Another location we are going to use in our horror film trailer is our
school; our protagonist is only young, and this would allow
audiences to relate to her and feel the same pressures. At school,
Marie will be seen in class having
a hallucination that someone’s
telling her to kill herself, as well as
seeing the troubles she has with
her teachers. This will be effective
in our trailer as audience’s can see
how much stress she is under, as
well as following location
conventions for our sub-genre.
My partner and I also wanted to use a hospital in order to show
Marie being admitted into a psychiatric ward; this would be very
effective in adding a sense of realism to our film, whilst reminding
target audiences of how serious Marie’s problem is. However,
gaining access to a hospital would be unattainable as well as
unethical, so we could not use this location.
