Media AS Evaluation
By Jenna Wilkinson,
Heather Murray
In what ways does your horror opening use,
develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real horror film opening?
In our horror opening the main character is a girl
and is placed in a secluded location this follows
the genre of normal horror films. We deliberately
did not show the killers face or identity. We used
shot reverse shot to show our villain and victim.
We shot some of the scenes in the day time
which challenges the conventions of normal
horror films. Also which challenges the
conventions is using fast motion and slow
motion.
How does your horror opening represent
particular social groups?
Our opening represents teenagers, we have a
teenage girl in our horror film opening she is
dressed as a average teenage girl would dress
as. Also is out by her self going to meet her
friends as normal teens do. As the out fits are for
the characters the villain wears a My Chemical
Romance Jacket. Also the villain in our film is
wearing dark clothes.
Who would be the audience for your horror
film opening?
Our horror film opening is aimed at teenagers as
it is a teen horror film. The target audience is
mainly 12 +.
We feel that horror films are mainly made for this
age group so this is why we have made our film
for this age group so that it would get a good
audience top watch the film. We are going to
give our film the certificate so there will be
more people are available to watch.
How did you attract / address your
audience?
We attract our audience by the context of our
horror film because we have vampires in our film
also a teenage girl that will appeal to our
teenage audience. Also where the start is set out
side a church where dark gothic teenagers hang
out. Also the outfits fit in to addressing our
audience such as the My Chemical Romance
jacket.
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing the horror
film opening?
We have learnt how to use video camera’s and
tripod’s plus the apple Mac programs such as
final cut and live type.
We learnt about different camera shots and
angles to help film.
How to storyboard the film properly camera
shots and angles plus the music.
Learnt the conventions of different films.
What kind of media intuitions might
distribute your horror film opening and why?
We believe that the perfect intuitions for our film
due to it being a film about vampires we feel that
Hammer films could distribute our film because
they created the first ever vampire film Dracula.
This is a brilliant suit to our movie.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the horror film
opening?
We learnt that we needed to use a tripod to steady the
shot.
We discovered how to use Live type to enter titles in to
our movie.
We found out that the camera sounds was not very good
and that by using garage band to create a sound track
made our film look and sound much more professional.
We now know how to use Final cut to a much higher
standard.
