2. This is my location ideas presentation for my A2
media studies coursework on horror films. This
will describe the different locations that me and
my partner are/were thinking of using when
filming our horror film trailer and why we are
using them.
3. Graveyard We decided to use a graveyard
as one of the locations in our
horror film trailer because it
already has a frightening
connotation to it as it is linked
with death and we think our
audience would feel more scared
if they saw our protagonist in a
terrifying surrounding.
Plus it tells our audience that
someone in the narrative has
died which increases the fear
factor.
4. House (various)
We decided to use a bedroom location in our
horror film trailer to showcase our main
protagonists nightmares which cause her to act
irrationally. Also because it is conventional for
teenagers to be sexualised in horror films we
thought a bedroom location would be appropriate.
The bathroom location we chose so that we could
showcase one of our main characters’
hallucinations whilst she is taking a bath as it is
meant to be a relaxing experience which turns into
a terrifying one. The living room will be used to
show our protagonist’s background to her mental
state as she was abused by her parents which will
be shown in this location.
5. Train Station
We chose a train station
platform as another location idea
for our horror film trailer as our
protagonist could have a
hallucination here and walk
through the eerie station causing
our audience to be more
frightened.
Nevertheless, we decided not to
use this location because gaining
access in the scheduled
timeframe we had to film our
trailer was not possible.
6. Park
We decided to use a park
pathway as another location for
our horror film trailer because in
the night this setting will allow
our audience to interpret just
how alone our protagonist is and
also it can be a scary location if
one is walking alone through it.
We are going to use this for
some scenes to introduce the
characters and our protagonist’s
deteriorating psychological state.
7. Alleyway
We chose this another location
as a substitute for the scene we
were going to film in the train
station as the scene works just as
well in an alleyway setting and it
is easier to access.
We also chose this because it
can make the audience feel
anxious for our protagonist as it
is difficult to see what is at the
end of the alleyway so the
antagonist could be waiting for
them.
8. School
When deciding locations for our
horror film trailer we were going
to use more of a school setting in
the trailer to emphasise how our
main character was being bullied
which added to her mental
strain.
However, we decided not to use
this location as we believed it to
be too cliché and repetitive as
this type of narrative has been
used in many horror films
before.
9. Hospital
In our horror film trailer for our
A2 media studies coursework,
another of our location ideas was
to use an abandoned hospital to
film scenes of our main
protagonist in. We were going to
use this location to demonstrate
how her psychological state has
caused her to be put in a mental
institution.
However, we then decided not to
use this location as gaining a
permit and access to the
abandoned hospital was
unattainable.
10. I am aware that my trailer would have benefitted from
locations such as the train station and the abandoned
hospital but this was not possible to accomplish.
Unfortunately, these ideas were unrealistic as the
locations were inaccessible to me but I will try to use
resources that I do have access to, to my advantage to
try and imitate the best conventional style of a horror
setting for my horror film trailer.
