How important is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
2. I felt that it was important for me to create these two ancillary
product so that they were consistent with the main product.
This is so that the audience are able to establish that the
ancillary products are to do with the documentary and that
they are all linked in some way. To do this I will use the same
colour scheme for both my double page magazine spread and
the newspaper logo. I will also place quotes from the
documentary through out them all in random places on both
of them so that it makes people interested and to try and get
people to listen. The double page magazine spread will
contain statistics about being stopped and searched by the
police and how crime is perceived in the media. This is to
show the audience that will be reading it that the
documentary is factual and shows them as much of reality as
possible.
3. The purpose of me creating both the double page magazine
spread and the newspaper logo when they are both printed is
because I feel that my ancillary products will engage the
audience more as I am able to show proof and evidence to
support the documentary when needed whereas I wouldn’t be
able to do that through a radio slot or a radio advert for the
documentary. Also if it was a radio program it would be show
on radio 4 or BBC radio 1 which very few young people listen
to. So the newspaper logo and the double page magazine
spread would draw my target audience in more and would be
more effective; simply because my documentary looks at the
views of young people and how they have been effected. So my
target audience is young people as they can relate to the two
girls that I interview in my documentary.
4. The two ancillaries would be beneficial to both the
distribution and viewing figures if my documentary were
to ever be televised as the magazine spread is targeted at
mainly younger people whereas the newspaper logo is
aimed at slightly older people. By doing this I am
therefore widening the audience for my documentary;
which makes my audience age as wide and varied as
possible. When doing these products I have to make sure
that the language is appropriate for the age range of my
target audience that I am aiming for. To do this I
researched Time magazine to look at the language used
and to see if appropriate language was used for the target
audience I was aiming for.
5. When doing the double page magazine spread I will use
photos of the two girls that I have interviewed so that I can
interview them about how they felt to take part in and being
interview in the documentary. My ancillary product fulfills its
purpose as it gives us an in site as to what the documentary is
about and will eventually attempt to reach and target the
wider audience market. As I have aimed my documentary at
young people and their parents the double page spread will be
in a magazine such as TV choice. This is a popular television
magazine which tells you about future television episodes,
films or documentaries. I think that these ancillaries and the
documentary will help build bridges and link the two
characters to the documentary so in a way they become the
faces of the documentary.
