2. WHICH SOCIAL GROUPS ARE REPRESENTED
IN MY MAGAZINE?
There are many social groups represented by the genre of pop music as the beats and
rhythms of the songs are catchy and overall have a positive message which at times the
audience can find relatable, there are also sub-genres of pop music including; Latin-pop
is mainly aimed at Spanish-speaking countries, pop-rap is another subgenre aimed at
those who may like a slightly faster beat and may want to get excited for something,
other subgenres include: k-pop, dance-pop, pop rock…
The social group that I decided to try to aim my product at the young male and female
demographic aged between 16- 24 mostly teens and young adults, as these are the
people most likely to purchase a product concerning new music made by today’s biggest
stars.
3. SOCIAL GROUPS REPRESENTED IN
THE IMAGES
The images I used for my product to convey
the social group I focused on, I decided to use
images of one of my friends and asked them
to try to recreate some posses done by
professional models and music artists that I
had preciously seen in other magazines.
The model’s clothing was something really
important when it comes to representing any
social groups as its one of the first things you
recognise about someone, and you
stereotype them by what they are wearing
therefore I asked the model to wear modern
clothing that someone in that age group
would wear.
SOCIAL GROUPS REPRESENTED IN
THE TEXT
Text is also as important when it comes to
defining a social group because once you
stop looking at the images, you start to read
and the font can impact the audience’s
choice about that product. For example if the
font were to be trashed or distorted you’d
expect to confronted with something scary
not a pop music magazine.
The text that I’ve used for the text in my
product has a ’groovy’ as this is a common
feeling associated with pop music because
pop songs are upbeat and they are usually
played at parties or nightclubs which means
that you can dance to these tunes.
