1. I used bright and eye catching colours to attract my target audience as this would appeal immensely to them. I used an image that they will be familiar seeing (a DJ playing a set) as this would put them at ease and therefore be more likely to attract them. I used artists names that they would be familiar seeing and would know and like, to attract them in, as this would most likely mean that they would be guaranteed to enjoy and like the contents of the magazine as they are already fans of the featured artists. I used a URL to attract the reader in as this is contemporary and popular thing at the moment- everything is moving towards being online. The bold clear font (written in capitals) would attract people to my magazine as it is eye catching and easy to read which is an instant hit with potential customers. I have used extra images on my front cover to attract people in as my target audience are of a generation that are dominated by visual elements within society and the media world. I attract people to my magazine by using lures (such as win VIP tickets) and encourage them in by using friendly language and promises of more to come inside. My magazines name “Phat Juke” would attract my target audience in as I have used modern ‘slang’ words that would appeal to the younger generations.
2. I also made sure that I addressed my target audience by regularly asking their opinions about my magazine (layout, colours, logos, genre etc) through current mediums such as social networking sights like Facebook . I also asked people to vote on my polls and I received constant feedback from peer assessments from my class mates. By addressing my audience through all of these techniques I was able to finish my magazine to suit their demands and requirements which would make it more appealing and relevant to them. The note from the editor on my contents page allows readers to feel like I am talking directly to them and this creates a personal bond between magazine and consumer- creating a positive relationship and loyalty. To address my audience I used quite an informal mode of address for the majority of the text. For example, as seen on this screen shot from my contents page, I used phrases such as “Who is hot and who is not”, “hectic life” and “cracked up to be”. All of these phrases would be considered as quite ‘young’ and ‘contemporary’ which makes it more directed and specific to my target audience.
