The Lost Boys Sociology
Media, including movies has been an outlet for many directors and screenwriters to express both
their opinions and to illustrate the social temperature in which they lived while injecting their own
views into their work. Media 'fossils' like The Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher not only
provide a thrilling tale for viewers, but also critiques, comments, and upholds different social norms
in an amusing manner as an outlet for often controversial subjects such as peer pressure amongst
young people. The Lost Boys may be a gory film, but to ignore the film's social context would be to
ignore the complexity of the movie itself.
Many young people today as well as in the eighties were under a siege of pressure from their peers
to conform to the group's expectations. When the older brother Michael first goes into David and his
friends' tomb, he is blatantly pressured into drinking and performing dangerous acts that he wouldn't
normally do. Michael is frequently coached by the group who even chanted his name when he
becomes increasingly resistant to let himself fall off of the bridge. Michael's interaction with the
motorcycle crew shows that negative peer pressure was just as ... Show more content on

The motorcycle gang is initially portrayed as moody, powerful, and sexy building the image of
glamour but later tear this image down. The vampires' faces morphe into the visage of a predator
with large teeth and glowing eyes detracting from their sex appeal. When in their lair, the vampire's
small, unattractive, claw–like feet are even shown as the vampire David hangs upside–down which
also provided a physical flaw detracting from their moody sex appeal. They are then killed in violent
borderline comical ways by quirky teenage boys, the attractive and glamorous portrayed in the
media slain by a motley crew of protagonists who were the antithesis of

Rumble Fish
In thinking of film's that are able to exemplify many film elements that are put together in an
interesting and organized manner the movie Rumble Fish comes to mind. The director Francis Ford
Coppola demonstrates how metaphors are able to help decipher a deeper meaning of the film.
Rumble Fish is a film that is about growing up and seeing new things that have never been seen
before. The two main characters who are brothers Rusty James and the Motorcycle Boy, experience
internal conflicts. Rusty James the younger of the two looks up to his brother and wants to be like
him. However the elder has grown out of his previous demeanor of always fighting and he doesn't
want his brother to follow in his steps. Throughout the film he ask Rusty ... Show more content on

The editing consists of shot reverse shot between the three characters, with distinct close–ups that
show detailed facial expressions. The Mise En Scene in this scene is limited compared to others, the
lighting used is the standard used through most of the picture. The costumes are very realistic with
Rusty James continuously wearing his tank top, however they are not elaborate. Coppola was able
to create a film of this caliber and not have to use all the fancy film techniques of the time, and that
is one reason why it is such a masterpiece. When the two brothers are looking at the fish it is
somber, in the way the speech is projected in such a low manner. The elder also tends to look quite
somber, he relates to the fish and it makes him think about the life for himself and his brother so he
becomes depressed. However, since both brothers are so enthralled with the fish it tends to be a
light–hearted scene. When Rusty James listens to his brother about the fish let alone anything he
finds it all interesting and he is happy to hear anything he has to say. Rusty James does look and
sound quite confused when his brother is talking to him, he continuously scratches his head and also
has a dumbfounded look on his face. The lighting does not change much in this scene however the
natural lighting that is throughout the whole movie almost makes this movie what it is. For the
majority of the scene the camera is on the opposite side of the

Comparing Tyram-James 'Rumble Fish And The Outsiders'
"Things are rough all over." – S.E Hinton quoted in her book "The Outsiders". "Rumble Fish" and
"The Outsiders" are both very similar books. Although there are many differences. Some major
differences between the main characters, Rusty–James and Ponyboy, are love, strength, and
confidence.
In both books, Rusty–James and Ponyboy look up to and love their brothers greatly, but they reveal
their love separately. Rusty–James expresses his love by trying to act just like his brother,
Motorcycle Boy. In other words, he acts cool, tough, and tries to be a leader. Ponyboy and his
brothers bond is so great that Ponyboy doesn't need to show much more love unlike Rusty–James
and Motorcycle Boy.
Even though both main characters are 14 and built for their

Analysis Of Relationships In S. E. Hinton's 'Rumble Fish'
S.E. Hinton wrote the novel Rumble Fish to focus on the main protagonist, Rusty–James, living a
rough childhood in a small town. While focusing mostly on him, she also dives deep into his best
friend Steve. Rusty and Steve have an interesting relationship which brings out the positives and
negatives in one another. Steve is the complete opposite of Rusty, yet the two are closer than ever.
Rusty and the Motorcycle Boy were getting ready to head downtown to go to some parties and a
bar. Rusty did not feel safe going alone with just the Motorcycle Boy so he wondered if Steve would
want to go. Rusty "wanted Steve to go in case the Motorcycle Boy forgot I was with him" shows
that Rusty feels safe when Steve is around. Steve is a good kid who does not like to fight, he
completes his homework and obeys his parents with all of his heart. Rusty would rather his best
friend be with him to feel safe, yet, Rusty would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beforehand, Rusty poured half a bottle of cherry vodka into a bottle of sneaky pete. Since Steve is
such a good kid, he frowns upon underage drinking. Rusty "handed Steve the bottle, and to my
surprise, he took a drink. He never drank. I'd been trying to get him to for years" which shows the
influence Rusty has been attempting to have on Steve. Rusty has been peer pressuring Steve to be
just like him for all these years. Steve allowed himself to give in to the bad habits that Rusty has
become accustom to. Rusty has affected Steve in a negative way by nagging him about underage
drinking. We as readers are disappointed in the way that Rusty has pressured Steve into something
he may regret doing. Hinton shines light on the issues revolving around underage drinking and peer
pressure. She shows that even our closest friends can pressure us into something we really do not
want to do. These issues are a common problem within today's society and

Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis
Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a
fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as "South on the ridge on Seventeenth" (Stafford
Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a walk
one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running. He
picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle, he
admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him, he
saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the owner

Stafford's idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. "South of the bridge of
Seventeenth" (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the roads,
while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old boy, as
many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial opening line,
stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to "crossing the bridge" to being
seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a motorcycle on the side
of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and grasps the handles as if he is
about to take off. "I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed
where it lay" (Stafford Line 6–8). He became particularly attracted to the motorcycle, as if it were
an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify's the aging process, he is fifteen, but closer
to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still younger, naive side. The naive feelings
comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line " I was fifteen" was repeated several times to push
the theme into the readers

Many refugees, like Ha have to face challenges like bullying and discrimination that make them feel

Character Analysis Of Rumble Fish By Rusty James
The protagonist of the book is Rusty James. He is a fourteen your old boy that smokes and drinks
and fights already in the 1960–1970s in a southwest town. He pushes himself to be like the
Motorcycle boy (his brother). He starts to follow the Motorcycle boy around to seem tougher and
uncovers a new side of the Motorcycle boy. The antagonist of Rumble Fish is not really a person but
poverty. His dad drinks away the child support money and is always drunk. Rusty is left to fend for
himself which makes him steal and drink and smoke and fight for money. The two main themes of
Rumble Fish are alienation and abandonment. Rusty James is just trying to fit in but all the gangs
split up and he has nowhere to go so he follows the Motorcycle boy around to feel like he fits in. He
is also abandoned by his father and mother. His mother left when he was a baby and, his father is
always drunk and wastes the money. I would definitely recommend this book to someone. It is a
little slow but it has a good story line and it gets more interesting the more you read it and the
deeper you get. The exposition in the story in the story is when we learn about Rusty James and his
little crew who he hangs out with and how he is going to fight Biff Wilcox. The conflict in the story
is between the relationship between Rusty James and his brother, the Motorcycle boy. The
motorcycle boy tries to leave his gang roots but Rusty keeps bringing him back. The climax is when
the Motorcycle Boy, Rusty James and Rusty's friend Steve go to town, get drunk They are split up
and Rusty and Steve get beat up. The Motorcycle boy then has to come and save them. The
resolution is when Rusty James and Steve meet at the end of the book and Steve is a successful
person and rusty James is in a rehabilitation house getting help. Book report

Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton Essay
Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton
Rumble Fish is a great book for teens to read. It is a book about younger teens joining gangs. The
main character in the book is Rusty–James who is a high school boy that is in a gang and likes to get
into fights. Also there is a guy named the Motorcycle Boy who is Rusty's idol. Some minor
characters in the book include Steve who is the best friend of Rusty–James, another character is
Smokey who is another good friend of Rusty–James, also Biff who wanted to beat up Rusty–James
because they are in different gangs, and always are looking to fight each other.
In the story Rumble Fish, Rusty James is a greaser who has a lot of fights in and out of school. He

Bad things can happen to you if you don't have a knife in certain situations in his neighborhood. For
example, Rusty was in a fight with Biff and Biff had a knife but Rusty didn't have a knife. Nobody
in his gang had a knife, so Rusty lost. Then he met the Motorcycle Boy and everything was back to
normal until the big fight. Rusty got stabbed with the knife, and knocked out. Usually the
Motorcycle Boy would help him out, but instead he wasn't there, nowhere to be seen. Rusty was put
in the hospital for his stab wound. The main conflict in the story is Rusty James, and his fighting all
of the time. It isn't good for him or his reputation. Rusty usually wins and someone always is
looking to beat him at his own game, which is fighting, Rusty's specialty. The conflict is resolved
when Rusty James is in a fight against another greaser and the Motorcycle Boy isn't there to save
Rusty. After all of this happens, everyone starts making fun of Rusty. The mysterious thing is that
the Motorcycle Boy is never seen again. Now Rusty has no friend's what so ever. And his gang
lifestyle did not pay off at all. Instead of being cool he turned out to be the fool in the story.
I would recommend this book to any teen. It is a great sequal to the Outsiders and has a lot of action
in it. It has the excitement of gangs but there is also a lesson to be learned in the story as well. It
does not set a good example for kids but it is exciting to read about. Over all I

· Although the numbers of younger riders are on the rise, Harley must take notice of the marketing
styles that MTV utilizes.
· The youth of this country are constantly changing, and constant market research must be done to
keep up with what the next ideas of what is cool.
· Generally older males are the demographic that Harley– Davidson aims for, but the research I
found indicates that women and young men are beginning to purchase more cruiser style
motorcycles.
· Victory makes a great product, (I should know because I sell them) and they are on the rise to be
the top competition to Harley.
· Harley must get into the minds of the younger and more feminine crowds by surveys or incentives

Analysis Of The Visual Motorcycle Boy Tazso
The visual "Motercycle Boy" by Tamas Dezso suggests that as one ventures off to purses their
ambition, one also sacrifices the security with others and familiarity with that which they had.
Tamas uses converging lines toward the destination to give the feeling of a seeming endlessness
extinding in front of the boy towards his goal, yet sets the boy looking back at his progress and
accomplishment. This induces a feeling of empathy as we realize that despite the difficulty and path
ahead of him, we share a feeling of success and ambition from the boy. Though despite this, as he
looks back to what hes left behind, the influence of chasing this ambition is clear and we share his
sense of determination as he plunges forth into the unknown. As the

Bruce Springsteen's Song Hungry Heart
Section 1 Everybody needs a place to rest/ Everybody wants to have a home/ Don't make no
difference what nobody says/. Ain't nobody like to be alone– Bruce Springsteen, "Hungry Heart" In
1980, Bruce Springsteen released a song called "Hungry Heart". This song is a very gloomy in a
sense. Bruce tells us a story about man who impulsively leaves his family and moves away. These
lyrics "Everybody needs a place to rest/Everybody wants to have a home/ Don't make no difference
what nobody says/ Ain't nobody like to be alone/ tells us that the man has regretted what he had

Every song he sang was different then what he usual performs. These songs told stories of sadness
and his views on life itself. Some of these songs turned out to be big hits, and certainly made his
listeners to think. This album is just as emotional as any novel or film. The narrators in the songs
made us feel what they felt, especially in the "The River". Dystopia Dystopia is considered to be an
imaginary place or a state where everything in it is unpleasant or bad. A text that we have covered in
this class that relates to dystopia is "Rumble Fish". This story deals with characters who are
struggling through their lives. The city and everything around them seems to low scale. Rusty James
goes through his life trying to be like his older brother by fighting, drinking, smoking, and joining
gangs. To me their lives seem to never get any better and are always stuck in different life problems.
Pathos Pathos can be used to engage a reader or viewers feelings. They tend to be qualities that
make people feel sympathy or sadness. Typically an appeal to pathos causes an audience to respond
and identify what the writer feels. In The Shootist, John Wayne exemplifies pathos throughout the

Harley Davidson History
The first Harley–Davidson bike rolled on to the scene as a race bike. William Harley completed his
blueprint for the bike and explained that he wanted to design an engine to fit on a bike (Dyer, J.,
Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D. 2015). Its competition at the time was the Hendee's
manufacturing company's 1.75 horsepower, single cylinder motorcycle. The first race was a test run,
but the Harley Davidson officially entered into the racing scene in 1914, where the bike and the
rider won every race. The nick name for the bike was given because of the victory lap the rider
would take after every win (Dyer, J., Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D. 2015). After being dubbed
the fastest and most winning bike in the country, the thrill seekers and men with a rough attitude
started to take notice of the brand. The military even started to contract with the motorcycle
company. The police force looked into the motorcycles for high speed chases, whereas the biker
gangs would use them to get away from the law (Dyer, J., Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D.
2015). Harley–Davidson controlled over 60% of the market and was the only company producing
motorcycles at the time in the United Stated. But they got too comfortable and were unwilling to
make a change. Then Honda came to the scene to make a splash. Honda Motor Company started in
1955 after World War II during a time where Japan was rebuilding their economy (Gardinar, 2015).

Beverly Cleary, in her novel The Mouse and the Motorcycle, explicates that two living creatures of
completely different species can come to unite and form a phenomenal friendship.
In her story, Beverly Cleary shows that true friendship is not limited to members of the same
species. She uses a boy, a mouse and a similar interest to show friendships can grow from the most
unlikely sources. Just as in the real world, Cleary uses an intrigue to introduce two completely
different worlds. Men and women, and animals, often tend to gravitate to things that are captivating
to them. Past affiliations and even general curiosity are a few things Cleary used to help begin this
friendship. Ralph living in the inn for years would have seen countless children playing with their
toys, but it was not until Keith that he would venture out unto a thrilling undertaking that a
friendship would develop. The two beings shared an interest, in this case Keith's prized motorcycle,
which led to them crossing paths and becoming best friends.
The relationship itself helps Cleary drive the point home. Why exactly is it mouse? Is it because a
mouse is small enough to ride a motorcycle? Then why not a hamster? A squirrel? Cleary uses a
mouse due to its "fiend nature". Man has given mice a tarnished reputation. This then should make it
tough for a friendship to develop between the two. Cleary demonstrates that friendships can develop
from the weirdest of pairs. Not many would consider a mouse as a

Don 't Not Wear A Helmet
Motorcycles are probably some of the coolest things in the world to eight–year old kids. I was lucky
enough to grow up around motorcycles, and some of the kindest people I have ever met; bikers. My
dad and his best friend, Ken, had ridden motorcycles together since their junior year of high school.
They both saved up all the money they had earned from bailing hay to buy their motorcycles. Being
reckless, as most teenage boys are, they developed the bad habit of not wearing helmets while
riding. In 2008, Ken's life was cut short after a fatal motorcycle accident. He was on his way home

Why is wearing a seat belt a requirement and wearing a motorcycle helmet is not? In the State of
Texas' Motorcycle Operators Handbook, it states that a motorcycle accident is more likely to be a

sustain a critical head injury in a crash." (Texas Dept. of Public Safety) Both safety devices keep
motorists safe and could potentially save lives. Motorcycles are much more dangerous than cars
because the whole body is exposed. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's article,

than 21 years old to wear a helmet. "Riders older than 21 years of age are exempt from wearing a

Dirt Bikes Experience
I am currently 17 years old, about to be 18, and I have been around both motorcycles and dirt bikes
for nearly my entire life. Every experience I have ever had with motorcycles and dirt bikes has been
a completely safe experience; at least, for those experiences that I can remember. I remember my
mother telling me that when I was younger, probably around 3–4, my stepfather wanted to take me
for a ride on his dirt bike. My mother was completely opposed to me being on such a "dangerous"
thing, as many other people also believe. However, my stepdad convinced my mother to let him take
me for a ride and it turned out I loved it! My parents say I came back laughing and smiling from the
ride. Most people who believe motorcycles (and similar vehicles)

12 O Clock Heroes
The Heroes of our Time. At this essay, I will review the movie "12 O'clock boys". This movie has
two lines which make it interesting and unusual. The firs line is telling us a story about an urban
motorcycle gang from North Baltimore and the second line is telling us a story about thirteen years
old boy Pug who wants to be a part of 12 O'clock boys gang. The people who belong to this gang
want to escape from the reality of life by doing crazy and dangerous things on the roads which make
them feel free and powerful. Of course, this freedom and wildness attract teenagers who growing up

Arthur Davidson was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 11, 1881. Arthur went into

What Is The Meaning Of The Poem Fifteen
Fifteen is a poem that was written by William Stafford about a story that happened while he was
fifteen. A quick summary for the story is , there was a fifteen year old boy. He found a motorcycle
running on its side in the grass. The rider had crashed and had fallen off the motorcycle and off the
bridge. The poem does not follow a rhyme scheme or meter, which means that there is rhythm in the
poem and it makes the poem more like a song. The poem has four stanza's and has five lines within
each stanza. Stafford explains that one summer when he was next to a bridge and saw a motorcycle
running while it is laying down on its side deep in the grass. "South of the bridge on seventeenth I

Alliteration was also evident throughout the poem in the first line of the first stanza when he said "
south of the bridge on seventeenth"(Stafford, page 805, stanza 1). The alliteration is "south" and
"seventeenth" because both words start with an "S". Imagery was found in the second stanza, which
says, "I admired all the pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks"(Stafford, page 805, stanza 2). The poet was
looking at the motorcycle and the sun was aimed directly in the glass of the motorcycle, which lets
you see the streaks, which are the pulsing gleam he mentioned. "I stood there, fifteen"(Stafford,
page 805, line 6 from stanza 2). This is a repetition of his age and that he was a wise teenager
because he got the man back on his motorcycle. The learner profiles that are visible in the poem are
"thinker" because Stafford didn't steal the motorcycle, instead he helped the owner, Caring because
he is a fifteen year old and is a young adult who helped an injured man. Risk–taker because he
wanted to ride the motorcycle even though he didn't have any experience with it. Principled because
Stafford is a wise and thoughtful man because he helped a man from losing hope and dying in the
grass by getting him back on his

What Is The Difference Between Andy Fish And Rumble Fish
While Andy Jackson from Tears of a Tiger sand Rusty–James from Rumble Fish both seem lonely,
they differ because Andy is pessimistic while Rusty–James is dependent. In both books, the
characters lose people they feel close to. However, Andy proves himself to be independent multiple
times throughout the book. Rusty–James relies on people helping him get out of trouble.
Characterization plays an important role in the reader's understanding of character development.
Readers of both Tears of a Tiger and Rumble Fish find both Rusty–James and Andy Jackson lonely.
In the book Tears of a Tiger, it stated "'But I get to Robbie, I couldn't get to him.'" This demonstrates
that Andy Jackson couldn't save Robbie and he knew Robbie was gone. He lost his best friend that
day and feels horrible. Another example from the text is "'I believe that's what I'm getting out of, ...

In the book, it states "Motorcycle Boy stepped out, grabbed Biff's wrist and snapped it backward."
This shows that Rusty–James is dependent because when he was in this fight, he wouldn't have been

"Somebody pulled me up, and I was half sitting and half leaning against him. 'He ain't dead' It was
the Motorcycle Boy" This demonstrates that Rusty–James is dependent because when he almost
died, Motorcycle Boy was the one who finished off the people go jumped steve and Rusty–James. If
he wasn't so dependent on Motorcycle Boy than Steve wouldn't have had a best friend anymore.
Furthermore, In the book, it states "The next thing I knew I was thrown up against the police car and

to follow him just to stay safe or to feel something then he wouldn't have lost his brother and he
wouldn't have gone to jail. Therefore Rusty–James proved to be dependent many times throughout

S. E. Hinton: Similarities Between Books And Movies
Books and movies are full of aspects that seem similar and opposite of one another. Worldwide and
infamous, Harry Potter is a franchise which began as a series of novels in the late 1990's. Years
after, they were transformed into films which spread across nations. It is not only Harry Potter.
There are endless imaginations created by stories and shared between books and movies. For
instance, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is seen as an adventurous and blood–pumping novel, and

Persuasive Essay On Road Safety
Anyone who has ridden a bike or motorcycle has likely worn a helmet at some point in their
lifetime. They have heard it from the first day those little feet touched a pedal, "always wear a
helmet." Whether from a parent, guardian, or even television, at some point in everyone's time here
on earth they have heard that wearing a helmet will save more brain cells than wearing nothing.
Eventually, some of those kids that enjoyed bikes as a kid, grew up and their enjoyment that they
found as a child never changed. They upgraded as time progressed, from bicycle to motorcycle.
The importance of safety gear never diminished, in fact, need for gear increased. When riding a
bicycle, a helmet may protect more than enough on one's body in the case of a minor wreck, as they
will only travel at around ten to fifteen miles per hour. All of that changes when you straddle a
motorized machine build for the single objective of speed. Compared with people driving cars,
motorcycle drivers face a much higher risk of dying in a crash, U.S. government data from 2013
show that for every mile traveled that year, a motorcyclist has a larger chance of dying than a car
driver by a factor of 26 times. [source: Insurance Institute for Highway Safety], with a total of 4,381
motorcycle fatalities.
Any motorcyclist will quickly say that skill and smarts play a crucial part in staying alive in a world
dominated by cars. And the statistics don't differentiate irresponsible motorcyclists and responsible
ones. However, all motorcyclists start out with some disadvantages. Because they have two wheels
and not four, the driver's balance and driving abilities, including quick reflexes, play a critical role.
However, that only accounts for rider–controlled safety, a few mechanical safety features exist but
none stand up to that of car safety features.
As automotive manufacturers develop new technology to make cars even safer, motorcycle
manufacturers have very little room for safety features. Motorcycle features such as, brighter
headlights, motorcycle airbags and mirrors with larger fields of view can help reduce the risk of an
accident or the severity of injuries. But in general, motorcycles can't enter the market labeled as
safer than the

Harley Davidson's The Great Depression
Introduction Harley–Davidson came to life in 1903, when William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson
produced the first Harley–Davidson motorcycle in a little wooden barn in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This was the start to what we know today as Harley–Davidson Motorcycles. William Davidson
joined his brother Arthur and a friend in the business in 1907. In 1912 Harley–Davidson made their
first sale overseas in Japan. Soon after moving into a larger building, they needed to hire employees
to support the making of the bikes.
Harley–Davidson sent one–third of their bikes overseas to help in the war efforts in 1917 and then
half of their production the following year. At this time, they became the largest motorcycle factory
in the world. They were even able to survive the "Great Depression", while many of their
competitors had lost the battle. Indian motorcycles were Harley–Davidson's only competitor to
survive the depression. Harley–Davidson had been trying to gain advantage over Indian for quite
some time. They finally were able to gain the upper hand in 1936 with the launch of the
"Knucklehead" motorcycle.
Harley–Davidson has made a name for themselves when it comes to making bikes to assist in the
wars. They went as far as stopping production of civilian bikes to focus on producing bikes for the
military. The company received the Army–Navy "E" award for their commitment and excellence.
Harley–Davidson even went as far as naming one of their most popular bikes the "Fat

Rumble Fish By Francis Ford Coppola
Rumble Fish
The novel–based American drama movie Rumble Fish was directed by Francis Ford Coppola in
1983–the author of the novel S.E. Hinton also co–wrote the screen play. The cinematographer is
Stephen Burum, the music is by Stewart Copeland, and the editor is Barry Malkin and the. Zoetrope
Studios produced the movie with a 10–million–dollar budget (Clarke).
The plot is primarily about the struggles of the main two characters, Rusty James (Matt Dillon) and
his older brother the Motorcycle Boy (Mickey Rourke). The film shows their journey of self–
discovery fueled by the desire to break away from the toxic environment, and end the constant
internal–conflict they experience. I think Coppola's unique approach to film was able to deliver
certain themes in the audience in a way the novel alone couldn't. However, the no movie is
completely free from external inspirations and I was able to draw parallels between some of the
movie's major themes to earlier movies and detect traces of the French new wave. Another movie
influence is the Cabinet of Calgary –German expressionist and film noir are the main significant
inspirations on the cinematographic style of Rumble Fish. Traces of those genres can be detected in
the film's storyline, mise–en–scene, cinematography, and sound.
Like in any well produced film, Coppola began the creative process by first studying the novel and
script, then discussing it with the author to determine which key elements must be transferred

Maturity In The Poem 'Fifteen' By William Stafford
Zealous and aspiring teens have numerous expectations for their upcoming adulthood life and desire
the wonders that are yet to come. Similar to the boy in the poem "Fifteen", William Stafford writes
about the speaker who struggles between temptation and integrity. Through the use of irony and
symbolism, Stafford enhances that the act of maturity is not dependent on age. He accentuates the
morals and virtues in which the teenage boy acts upon. With a covetous tone, he portrays that no
matter the age, maturity is justified by the decisions people make. With the use of descriptive
imagery of the motorcycle, Stafford portrays the effect it has on the speaker and how the speaker
will react. He uses auditory imagery coming from the motorcycle to lure the speaker, "a motorcycle
with the engine running / as it lay on its side, ticking over / slowly in the high grass" (3–5). The
"ticking" and "engine running" tempts the speaker, therefore he strides on over to it. The ... Show

Irony is constructed when the speaker states, "He ran his hand / over it, called me a good man,
roared away" (19–20). To be a "man" is to be honest and to make decisions out of altruism. It means
to have integrity in the actions and choices that he makes. This ironic moment contradicts back to
the fantasies, of stealing the owner's property, which the speaker had. The owner of the motorcycle
perceives the speaker as a "good man" since he had the chance to steal the owner's bike, but,
instead, assists him. When the owner leaves, the speaker concludes that he is a young boy and is still
transitioning to become a man when he states, "I stood there fifteen" (21). This divulges to the
reader that to be fifteen is to make mistakes and learn from the concepts it delivers. Although the
speaker was on the verge of stealing the motorcycle, he stops himself from the arising temptation
and decides to do what is

Harley Davidson Driving Influence On Saudi Arabia And Arab...
INTRODUCTION In my paper I decided to write about Harley Davidson Motorcycles influence in
Saudi Arabia and the Arab nations in general. I selected this topic in regards to a comment that my
professor, Dr. Thomas Coyle, for MTML 4330 mention during one of his lectures. During Dr. Coyle
lecture he mention that Saudi Arabia woman used to dress as men to drive Harley Davidson
motorcycles. According to Dr. Coyle Arab woman used to dress as men to be able to be on their own
since it is customary for woman to be escorted by a man of her family at all times. Arab woman
used to dress as men so they couldn't be recognize as woman while riding and feeling free.
Although, I couldn't find any specific source about Arab woman riding Harley Davidsons
motorcycles it did brought up allot of questions. First of all, it brought up to my attention how
Harley Davidson has been a brand that impacted the global community. Especially, since I couldn't
imagine an American product being sold in the part of the world where is presume most countries
hate Americas beliefs and lifestyle. It was even harder to imagine Harley Davidson being sold in
Saudi Arabia which represent freedom, adventure, and individuality. Totally opposite to what I
imagine the Arab culture beliefs towards American products would stand for. During my research I
discovered that Harley Davidson it's a very popular commodity in the Arab nation and the world not
only the United States. I honestly imagine that Harley Davidson was

The Dangers Of Motorcycle Safety
On May 19, 2004, a young boy was driving his motorcycle on his way to move into his new house
when a van cut him off on the highway and his motorcycle struck the back of the van, causing the
bike and boy to tumble down the highway at 60 MPH. Luckily, the boy was wearing a helmet. That
helmet had been crushed in from the impact, and if he hadn't been wearing it, that would have been
his head. Motorcycle safety has always been a concern for many people, including parents of
children who want bikes. Even if you don't ride motorcycles, knowing the importance of helmets
can help you teach others and save the life of a family or friend. I believe that everyone, no matter
the age or experience, should wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. Wearing a helmet while
riding a motorcycle can be the difference between life or death. In this paper, I will explain why not
wearing a helmet is such a big problem, then I will tell you why the problem exists, and finally I
will give some solutions to this issue.
Let's start off by talking about why not wearing a helmet is such a big deal. Motorcycles are the
most hazardous form of motor vehicle transportation. They are less stable and harder to see than
normal cars. Like any other mode of transportation, safety is important and helmets are the most
important when riding a motorcycle. Your brain is very fragile and even though you have a skull
protecting it, your skull can easily be crushed and if your brain beats up against your skull, it

following you who will set their feet where yours are set" ( SparkPeople). In other words, a person
should be careful with his or her actions because there is always someone who is watching and
learning from him or her. Therefore, he or she should be a positive role model, but in Rumble Fish
the big brother, the Motorcycle Boy is a foolish young adult who does not know that he is being
watched and followed by his younger brother, Rusty–James. Rumble Fish is a novel that was written

First, the way the Motorcycle Boy responds to a danger represents his carelessness. The Motorcycle
Boy has a completely different perspective from the people around him. As Rusty–James states, " I
wanted to be tough like him and stay calm and laughing when thing got dangerous[sic]" (Hinton
113). The Motorcycle Boy laughs at the danger instead of trying to eliminate it. By the way that he
acts, shows how he is abnormal, and he does not care about others. Also, his actions make a person
think that the Motorcycle Boy is from another planet. As Rusty– James's Father says, " He would
have made a perfect knight in a different century" ( Hinton 128). The opinions of the people around
him proves the fact that he is not an usual person. Since it is not a different century or different
world, the Motorcycle Boy does not make a good hero. Furthermore, he is not mentally or
physically stable enough to be a role model. The Motorcycle Boy thinks in a weird way that no one
can understand him. As Rusty–James says, "He always saw things different from everybody else. It

Most motorcycle groups consist of completely harmless people who just love to ride and have a

organized criminal network of Harley–riding outlaws who fight turf wars over drugs, women, and
weapons. The FBI defines outlaw motorcycle gangs as this: "organizations whose members use their

The incident left three people dead. 80,000 motorcycle enthusiasts had been in Laughlin, a town of
8,000 about 80 miles southeast of Las Vegas, for the 20th annual "River Run." The 1,700 room
casino hotel was completely booked for the event, and a hotel representative blamed the violence on
outlaw motorcycle gang members. Although the Mongols are a smaller gang than many of their
peers with similar notoriety, they make up for their relatively small numbers with tenacity. Since
their 800–member ranks are clustered largely in and around Southern California, the MC is a
powerful force there. With the help of standing allegiances with Latino street gangs, the Mongols
took control of the southern california area from the Hells Angels in the 1980s and still hold the turf
today. The Mongols allegiance with these street gangs is largely based on race, as the majority of the
Mongols are Hispanic or Native American. The club was founded after a number of Latino bikers
were denied entry to the Hells Angels due to their race. The Mongols remain a violent and active
gang today; in 2008, sixty gang members were arrested on charges including trafficking,
racketeering, and murder. This resulted in the arrest of President Ruben "Doc" Cavazos. As a result
of this, the Mongols were banned from wearing their patches, or colors, in public.

The Lost Boys Sociology

  • 1. The Lost Boys Sociology Media, including movies has been an outlet for many directors and screenwriters to express both their opinions and to illustrate the social temperature in which they lived while injecting their own views into their work. Media 'fossils' like The Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher not only provide a thrilling tale for viewers, but also critiques, comments, and upholds different social norms in an amusing manner as an outlet for often controversial subjects such as peer pressure amongst young people. The Lost Boys may be a gory film, but to ignore the film's social context would be to ignore the complexity of the movie itself. Many young people today as well as in the eighties were under a siege of pressure from their peers to conform to the group's expectations. When the older brother Michael first goes into David and his friends' tomb, he is blatantly pressured into drinking and performing dangerous acts that he wouldn't normally do. Michael is frequently coached by the group who even chanted his name when he becomes increasingly resistant to let himself fall off of the bridge. Michael's interaction with the motorcycle crew shows that negative peer pressure was just as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The vampires' faces morphe into the visage of a predator with large teeth and glowing eyes detracting from their sex appeal. When in their lair, the vampire's small, unattractive, claw–like feet are even shown as the vampire David hangs upside–down which also provided a physical flaw detracting from their moody sex appeal. They are then killed in violent borderline comical ways by quirky teenage boys, the attractive and glamorous portrayed in the media slain by a motley crew of protagonists who were the antithesis of ... • 2. Rumble Fish In thinking of film's that are able to exemplify many film elements that are put together in an interesting and organized manner the movie Rumble Fish comes to mind. The director Francis Ford Coppola demonstrates how metaphors are able to help decipher a deeper meaning of the film. Rumble Fish is a film that is about growing up and seeing new things that have never been seen before. The two main characters who are brothers Rusty James and the Motorcycle Boy, experience internal conflicts. Rusty James the younger of the two looks up to his brother and wants to be like him. However the elder has grown out of his previous demeanor of always fighting and he doesn't want his brother to follow in his steps. Throughout the film he ask Rusty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The editing consists of shot reverse shot between the three characters, with distinct close–ups that show detailed facial expressions. The Mise En Scene in this scene is limited compared to others, the lighting used is the standard used through most of the picture. The costumes are very realistic with Rusty James continuously wearing his tank top, however they are not elaborate. Coppola was able to create a film of this caliber and not have to use all the fancy film techniques of the time, and that is one reason why it is such a masterpiece. When the two brothers are looking at the fish it is somber, in the way the speech is projected in such a low manner. The elder also tends to look quite somber, he relates to the fish and it makes him think about the life for himself and his brother so he becomes depressed. However, since both brothers are so enthralled with the fish it tends to be a light–hearted scene. When Rusty James listens to his brother about the fish let alone anything he finds it all interesting and he is happy to hear anything he has to say. Rusty James does look and sound quite confused when his brother is talking to him, he continuously scratches his head and also has a dumbfounded look on his face. The lighting does not change much in this scene however the natural lighting that is throughout the whole movie almost makes this movie what it is. For the majority of the scene the camera is on the opposite side of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Tyram-James 'Rumble Fish And The Outsiders' "Things are rough all over." – S.E Hinton quoted in her book "The Outsiders". "Rumble Fish" and "The Outsiders" are both very similar books. Although there are many differences. Some major differences between the main characters, Rusty–James and Ponyboy, are love, strength, and confidence. In both books, Rusty–James and Ponyboy look up to and love their brothers greatly, but they reveal their love separately. Rusty–James expresses his love by trying to act just like his brother, Motorcycle Boy. In other words, he acts cool, tough, and tries to be a leader. Ponyboy and his brothers bond is so great that Ponyboy doesn't need to show much more love unlike Rusty–James and Motorcycle Boy. Even though both main characters are 14 and built for their ... • 4. Analysis Of Relationships In S. E. Hinton's 'Rumble Fish' S.E. Hinton wrote the novel Rumble Fish to focus on the main protagonist, Rusty–James, living a rough childhood in a small town. While focusing mostly on him, she also dives deep into his best friend Steve. Rusty and Steve have an interesting relationship which brings out the positives and negatives in one another. Steve is the complete opposite of Rusty, yet the two are closer than ever. Rusty and the Motorcycle Boy were getting ready to head downtown to go to some parties and a bar. Rusty did not feel safe going alone with just the Motorcycle Boy so he wondered if Steve would want to go. Rusty "wanted Steve to go in case the Motorcycle Boy forgot I was with him" shows that Rusty feels safe when Steve is around. Steve is a good kid who does not like to fight, he completes his homework and obeys his parents with all of his heart. Rusty would rather his best friend be with him to feel safe, yet, Rusty would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beforehand, Rusty poured half a bottle of cherry vodka into a bottle of sneaky pete. Since Steve is such a good kid, he frowns upon underage drinking. Rusty "handed Steve the bottle, and to my surprise, he took a drink. He never drank. I'd been trying to get him to for years" which shows the influence Rusty has been attempting to have on Steve. Rusty has been peer pressuring Steve to be just like him for all these years. Steve allowed himself to give in to the bad habits that Rusty has become accustom to. Rusty has affected Steve in a negative way by nagging him about underage drinking. We as readers are disappointed in the way that Rusty has pressured Steve into something he may regret doing. Hinton shines light on the issues revolving around underage drinking and peer pressure. She shows that even our closest friends can pressure us into something we really do not want to do. These issues are a common problem within today's society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as "South on the ridge on Seventeenth" (Stafford Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a walk one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running. He picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle, he admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him, he saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the owner up, then realizing that he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stafford's idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. "South of the bridge of Seventeenth" (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the roads, while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old boy, as many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial opening line, stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to "crossing the bridge" to being seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a motorcycle on the side of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. "I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed where it lay" (Stafford Line 6–8). He became particularly attracted to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify's the aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line " I was fifteen" was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Character Analysis Of Rumble Fish By Rusty James The protagonist of the book is Rusty James. He is a fourteen your old boy that smokes and drinks and fights already in the 1960–1970s in a southwest town. He pushes himself to be like the Motorcycle boy (his brother). He starts to follow the Motorcycle boy around to seem tougher and uncovers a new side of the Motorcycle boy. The antagonist of Rumble Fish is not really a person but poverty. His dad drinks away the child support money and is always drunk. Rusty is left to fend for himself which makes him steal and drink and smoke and fight for money. The two main themes of Rumble Fish are alienation and abandonment. Rusty James is just trying to fit in but all the gangs split up and he has nowhere to go so he follows the Motorcycle boy around to feel like he fits in. He is also abandoned by his father and mother. His mother left when he was a baby and, his father is always drunk and wastes the money. I would definitely recommend this book to someone. It is a little slow but it has a good story line and it gets more interesting the more you read it and the deeper you get. The exposition in the story in the story is when we learn about Rusty James and his little crew who he hangs out with and how he is going to fight Biff Wilcox. The conflict in the story is between the relationship between Rusty James and his brother, the Motorcycle boy. The motorcycle boy tries to leave his gang roots but Rusty keeps bringing him back. The climax is when the Motorcycle Boy, Rusty James and Rusty's friend Steve go to town, get drunk They are split up and Rusty and Steve get beat up. The Motorcycle boy then has to come and save them. The resolution is when Rusty James and Steve meet at the end of the book and Steve is a successful person and rusty James is in a rehabilitation house getting help. • 10. Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton Essay Analysis of Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton Rumble Fish is a great book for teens to read. It is a book about younger teens joining gangs. The main character in the book is Rusty–James who is a high school boy that is in a gang and likes to get into fights. Also there is a guy named the Motorcycle Boy who is Rusty's idol. Some minor characters in the book include Steve who is the best friend of Rusty–James, another character is Smokey who is another good friend of Rusty–James, also Biff who wanted to beat up Rusty–James because they are in different gangs, and always are looking to fight each other. In the story Rumble Fish, Rusty James is a greaser who has a lot of fights in and out of school. He always sees the Motorcycle Boy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bad things can happen to you if you don't have a knife in certain situations in his neighborhood. For example, Rusty was in a fight with Biff and Biff had a knife but Rusty didn't have a knife. Nobody in his gang had a knife, so Rusty lost. Then he met the Motorcycle Boy and everything was back to normal until the big fight. Rusty got stabbed with the knife, and knocked out. Usually the Motorcycle Boy would help him out, but instead he wasn't there, nowhere to be seen. Rusty was put in the hospital for his stab wound. The main conflict in the story is Rusty James, and his fighting all of the time. It isn't good for him or his reputation. Rusty usually wins and someone always is looking to beat him at his own game, which is fighting, Rusty's specialty. The conflict is resolved when Rusty James is in a fight against another greaser and the Motorcycle Boy isn't there to save Rusty. After all of this happens, everyone starts making fun of Rusty. The mysterious thing is that the Motorcycle Boy is never seen again. Now Rusty has no friend's what so ever. And his gang lifestyle did not pay off at all. Instead of being cool he turned out to be the fool in the story. I would recommend this book to any teen. It is a great sequal to the Outsiders and has a lot of action in it. It has the excitement of gangs but there is also a lesson to be learned in the story as well. It does not set a good example for kids but it is exciting to read about. Over all I ... • 13. Analysis Of The Visual Motorcycle Boy Tazso The visual "Motercycle Boy" by Tamas Dezso suggests that as one ventures off to purses their ambition, one also sacrifices the security with others and familiarity with that which they had. Tamas uses converging lines toward the destination to give the feeling of a seeming endlessness extinding in front of the boy towards his goal, yet sets the boy looking back at his progress and accomplishment. This induces a feeling of empathy as we realize that despite the difficulty and path ahead of him, we share a feeling of success and ambition from the boy. Though despite this, as he looks back to what hes left behind, the influence of chasing this ambition is clear and we share his sense of determination as he plunges forth into the unknown. As the ... • 16. Harley Davidson History The first Harley–Davidson bike rolled on to the scene as a race bike. William Harley completed his blueprint for the bike and explained that he wanted to design an engine to fit on a bike (Dyer, J., Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D. 2015). Its competition at the time was the Hendee's manufacturing company's 1.75 horsepower, single cylinder motorcycle. The first race was a test run, but the Harley Davidson officially entered into the racing scene in 1914, where the bike and the rider won every race. The nick name for the bike was given because of the victory lap the rider would take after every win (Dyer, J., Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D. 2015). After being dubbed the fastest and most winning bike in the country, the thrill seekers and men with a rough attitude started to take notice of the brand. The military even started to contract with the motorcycle company. The police force looked into the motorcycles for high speed chases, whereas the biker gangs would use them to get away from the law (Dyer, J., Godfrey, P., Jensen, R., & Bryce, D. 2015). Harley–Davidson controlled over 60% of the market and was the only company producing motorcycles at the time in the United Stated. But they got too comfortable and were unwilling to make a change. Then Honda came to the scene to make a splash. Honda Motor Company started in 1955 after World War II during a time where Japan was rebuilding their economy (Gardinar, 2015). Beverly Cleary, in her novel The Mouse and the Motorcycle, explicates that two living creatures of completely different species can come to unite and form a phenomenal friendship. In her story, Beverly Cleary shows that true friendship is not limited to members of the same species. She uses a boy, a mouse and a similar interest to show friendships can grow from the most unlikely sources. Just as in the real world, Cleary uses an intrigue to introduce two completely different worlds. Men and women, and animals, often tend to gravitate to things that are captivating to them. Past affiliations and even general curiosity are a few things Cleary used to help begin this friendship. Ralph living in the inn for years would have seen countless children playing with their toys, but it was not until Keith that he would venture out unto a thrilling undertaking that a friendship would develop. The two beings shared an interest, in this case Keith's prized motorcycle, which led to them crossing paths and becoming best friends. The relationship itself helps Cleary drive the point home. Why exactly is it mouse? Is it because a mouse is small enough to ride a motorcycle? Then why not a hamster? A squirrel? Cleary uses a mouse due to its "fiend nature". Man has given mice a tarnished reputation. This then should make it tough for a friendship to develop between the two. Cleary demonstrates that friendships can develop from the weirdest of pairs. I was lucky enough to grow up around motorcycles, and some of the kindest people I have ever met; bikers. A quick summary for the story is , there was a fifteen year old boy. He found a motorcycle running on its side in the grass. The rider had crashed and had fallen off the motorcycle and off the bridge. The poem does not follow a rhyme scheme or meter, which means that there is rhythm in the poem and it makes the poem more like a song. The poem has four stanza's and has five lines within each stanza. Imagery was found in the second stanza, which says, "I admired all the pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks"(Stafford, page 805, stanza 2). The poet was looking at the motorcycle and the sun was aimed directly in the glass of the motorcycle, which lets you see the streaks, which are the pulsing gleam he mentioned. • 30. Persuasive Essay On Road Safety Anyone who has ridden a bike or motorcycle has likely worn a helmet at some point in their lifetime. They have heard it from the first day those little feet touched a pedal, "always wear a helmet." Whether from a parent, guardian, or even television, at some point in everyone's time here on earth they have heard that wearing a helmet will save more brain cells than wearing nothing. Eventually, some of those kids that enjoyed bikes as a kid, grew up and their enjoyment that they found as a child never changed. They upgraded as time progressed, from bicycle to motorcycle. The importance of safety gear never diminished, in fact, need for gear increased. When riding a bicycle, a helmet may protect more than enough on one's body in the case of a minor wreck, as they will only travel at around ten to fifteen miles per hour. All of that changes when you straddle a motorized machine build for the single objective of speed. Compared with people driving cars, motorcycle drivers face a much higher risk of dying in a crash, U.S. government data from 2013 show that for every mile traveled that year, a motorcyclist has a larger chance of dying than a car driver by a factor of 26 times. [source: Insurance Institute for Highway Safety], with a total of 4,381 motorcycle fatalities. Any motorcyclist will quickly say that skill and smarts play a crucial part in staying alive in a world dominated by cars. And the statistics don't differentiate irresponsible motorcyclists and responsible ones. However, all motorcyclists start out with some disadvantages. Because they have two wheels and not four, the driver's balance and driving abilities, including quick reflexes, play a critical role. However, that only accounts for rider–controlled safety, a few mechanical safety features exist but none stand up to that of car safety features. As automotive manufacturers develop new technology to make cars even safer, motorcycle manufacturers have very little room for safety features. Motorcycle features such as, brighter headlights, motorcycle airbags and mirrors with larger fields of view can help reduce the risk of an accident or the severity of injuries. But in general, motorcycles can't enter the market labeled as safer than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Davidson joined his brother Arthur and a friend in the business in 1907. In 1912 Harley–Davidson made their first sale overseas in Japan. Soon after moving into a larger building, they needed to hire employees to support the making of the bikes. Harley–Davidson sent one–third of their bikes overseas to help in the war efforts in 1917 and then half of their production the following year. At this time, they became the largest motorcycle factory in the world. They were even able to survive the "Great Depression", while many of their competitors had lost the battle. Similar to the boy in the poem "Fifteen", William Stafford writes about the speaker who struggles between temptation and integrity. Through the use of irony and symbolism, Stafford enhances that the act of maturity is not dependent on age. He accentuates the morals and virtues in which the teenage boy acts upon. With a covetous tone, he portrays that no matter the age, maturity is justified by the decisions people make. With the use of descriptive imagery of the motorcycle, Stafford portrays the effect it has on the speaker and how the speaker will react. He uses auditory imagery coming from the motorcycle to lure the speaker, "a motorcycle with the engine running / as it lay on its side, ticking over / slowly in the high grass" (3–5). Luckily, the boy was wearing a helmet. That helmet had been crushed in from the impact, and if he hadn't been wearing it, that would have been his head. Motorcycle safety has always been a concern for many people, including parents of children who want bikes. Even if you don't ride motorcycles, knowing the importance of helmets can help you teach others and save the life of a family or friend. I believe that everyone, no matter the age or experience, should wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. Wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can be the difference between life or death. In this paper, I will explain why not wearing a helmet is such a big problem, then I will tell you why the problem exists, and finally I will give some solutions to this issue. • 38. Robert E. Hinton's Rumble Fish: The Motorcycle Boy Robert E. Lee once said, " You must be careful how you walk and where you go, for there are those following you who will set their feet where yours are set" ( SparkPeople). In other words, a person should be careful with his or her actions because there is always someone who is watching and learning from him or her. Therefore, he or she should be a positive role model, but in Rumble Fish the big brother, the Motorcycle Boy is a foolish young adult who does not know that he is being watched and followed by his younger brother, Rusty–James. Rumble Fish is a novel that was written by a young writer, S. E Hinton, in 1975. The book is about young teens who are always in fights because of the emptiness of their lives. The Motorcycle Boy has a completely different perspective from the people around him. As Rusty–James states, " I wanted to be tough like him and stay calm and laughing when thing got dangerous[sic]" (Hinton 113). The Motorcycle Boy laughs at the danger instead of trying to eliminate it. By the way that he acts, shows how he is abnormal, and he does not care about others. Also, his actions make a person think that the Motorcycle Boy is from another planet. As Rusty– James's Father says, " He would have made a perfect knight in a different century" ( Hinton 128). The opinions of the people around him proves the fact that he is not an usual person. Since it is not a different century or different world, the Motorcycle Boy does not make a good hero. Furthermore, he is not mentally or physically stable enough to be a role model. The Motorcycle Boy thinks in a weird way that no one can understand him. As Rusty–James says, "He always saw things different from everybody else. It would help me a lot if I could understand what he meant" ( Hinton 31).The Motorcycle Boy does not have a clear–cut character that is easy to understand; therefore he cannot explain his outlook to his brother. The incident left three people dead. 80,000 motorcycle enthusiasts had been in Laughlin, a town of 8,000 about 80 miles southeast of Las Vegas, for the 20th annual "River Run." The 1,700 room casino hotel was completely booked for the event, and a hotel representative blamed the violence on outlaw motorcycle gang members. Although the Mongols are a smaller gang than many of their peers with similar notoriety, they make up for their relatively small numbers with tenacity. Since their 800–member ranks are clustered largely in and around Southern California, the MC is a powerful force there. With the help of standing allegiances with Latino street gangs, the Mongols took control of the southern california area from the Hells Angels in the 1980s and still hold the turf today. The Mongols allegiance with these street gangs is largely based on race, as the majority of the Mongols are Hispanic or Native American. The club was founded after a number of Latino bikers were denied entry to the Hells Angels due to their race. The Mongols remain a violent and active gang today; in 2008, sixty gang members were arrested on charges including trafficking, racketeering, and murder. This resulted in the arrest of President Ruben "Doc" Cavazos. As a result of this, the Mongols were banned from wearing their patches, or colors, in public. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
