2. Trailers
• The trailers I am going to analyse are Oculus 2013 Mike Flanagan and Insidious
2010 James Wan.
• These trailers are related and could similar to the trailer I am going to create,
the genre I am going for is Horror. I want to do this genre because it’s
completely different genre to what I have done before , this will expand my
knowledge for when I want to go into the film industry. I will know what to
look for and what to do. Last time I created a film opening for a drama now I
am doing a horror. I thought this would be a good Idea to do something that is
completely different from last time and will make me work harder, because
although dramas can be about death and tragedy they are based on a love
story where as a Horror would be based on deaths and things that scare the
audience this can be from possess to the work of the devil.

5. Editing
Oculus
• Quicker editing towards the
end (between shots)
• This makes the trailer feel
more intense.
• The quicker the shots the
shorter the shots are to
make the trailer build up
Insidious
• Slow editing between shots
then begins to get a bit
quicker towards the end.
• The shots are short all the
way through not giving
away too much of the film.
6. Sound
Oculus
• Sudden drums as each clip
starts.
• Mostly over voice of main
character telling a story to a
video camera doing a
documentary with her
brother, he doesn’t talk
much at all.
Insidious
• Some diegetic sounds and
also some music that is
building up in the back
ground.
• You don’t really hear
anyone talk.
7. Narrative
Oculus
• The story is told through the
main character, she is
making her own
documentary, because she
is trying to find out about
what happened to her
mum.
Insidious
• This story is shown from the
families point of view. This
is because they have some
supernatural spirit/s after
them.
8. Genre
Oculus
• Oculus is a horror because
of the content in the film
such as possessed
characters, blood, gore etc.
Insidious
• Insidious is a horror/thriller
because its not so much
blood or gore, it’s more
scaring and taunting in the
film. It makes you jump.
9. Representation
Oculus
• Gender- A boy and girl are
the main characters, they
are brother and sister, they
also lost there mum at a
young age and swore to
avenge her death this
causes them to be
vulnerable when they see
their mum in the mirror.
• Age- both brother and sister
are both aged between 19-
22.
Insidious
• Gender- the main victim is a
boy. That is what the
‘villains’ are after. This puts
the boy at a vulnerable
state.
• Age- the boys age is
between 5-7.
11. Values and Ideology
Oculus
• The older sister is the more
protective one in the story,
she doesn’t want to let the
mirror or what's in it get
away with what it has done
to ruin her family and the
older sister has stronger
feelings towards the
situation.
Insidious
• The young boy is the victim
in this, what ever monster is
hunting the family is after
the boy, but the boy is so
young and innocent and
vulnerable he can be lead in
different directions of what
he thinks to. Also the newly
family is vulnerable too.
