2. PITCH
• The main character is walking home from college one day when he get
mugged. Unfortunately, he does not make it out of this altercation alive
and passes away in the alleyway he gets mugged in. He then, to his
surprise, wakes up in a plain white room with a person sitting at a desk
waiting for him. He gets up, still confused and sits down and asks where
he is. The "gatekeeper" introduces themselves and makes it apparent to
the main character that they are in heaven and need to go through
some questions before he gets let in. They "gatekeeper" goes through
all of the bad things that the main character has done whilst the main
character objects with all of his good deeds. By the end of the
discussion, it is up to the gatekeeper to decide whether he can get let
into heaven or not. The film ends with the main character being let
through a door which leads to heaven.
3. THE MAIN CHARACTER
• He will be slightly clueless and unaware of his situation.
• Will be the opposite to the "gatekeeper".
• Will not have basic knowledge of some things, for example, will not
know his right from his left.
• Will dress casually.
• His good deeds will slightly outweigh his bad ones.
• Will not have many frineds, which are not mentioned within the short.
4. WORLD
• The world will be ordinary to begin with, but once the main character
dies and meets the gatekeeper, the room he is in will be very well lit. It
will be a somewhat modernised version of heaven and the interactions
will take place in the room, as if it is an interview. There will be a
somewhat dreamy atmosphere and there will be little to no mise-en-
scene, except for the "gatekeeper", his desk and a few signs.
5. STYLE
• The film will look somewhat dreamy and hazy, with entirely high-key
lighting.
• It will be a comedy, as the interactions with the "gatekeeper" and the
main character will consist of funny dialogue and flashbacks of bad
deeds and good deeds that the main character has done.
• To begin with, the mugging scene will be intercut with darkness and will
be shot entirely with extreme close ups and close-up shots as to allow
for no violence to take place, whilst also allowing the viewer to believe
that it is happening. It will aslo be very fast paced to begin with but will
slow down drastically once the main character meets the "gatekeeper".
6. SOUND
• To begin with there will be somewhat ambient yet ominous music
playing whilst the main character dies. This will also be paired with a
heavy use of foley sound as to emphasise the violence in the scene
without showing it.
• Once he reaches the "gatekeeper", there will be fewer sound effects, but
instead a somewhat calming and relaxing piano playing whilst he is
there.
7. TARGET AUDIENCE
• The target audience of this short will be around 16-29-year-old people
who enjoy somewhat dark humour, I have chosen this age group as I
believe that they are young enough to be able to appreciate the
somewhat childish dialogue that will be delivered by the main character,
whilst also being mature enough to understand the darker comedical
value of the short.
