Don’t breathe
Don’t breather is a psychological film which falls down under the “home
invasion/survival” subgenre.
•They are invading at night
•The area is remote and there aren't any
people in the area
•The use of sound control makes every
scene intense.
The person who is in the house is blind,
however he appears to be very strong and
is able to do what everyone else can. That
is counter stereotypical.
The protagonists must creep around the
house in complete silence as the antagonist
goes after sound.
Conjuring 2
Conjuring 2 is a paranormal “possession” film where a little girl is
constantly getting possessed by the demon haunting her and her family.
•The girl possessed by the demon, which is
conventional as children are often linked
to supernatural.
•The house they are staying in is
surrounded by other houses and isn't
remote. That is quite unconventional.
They have to get rid of the demon so they hang
crosses on the wall to keep it away. (linked to religion)
The girl is often possessed and cant control her body
and she performs unusual body bends
The characters wear night gowns, which is a typical
convection in possession films. Not sure how it works,
but it does create a creepy/scary vibe.
Horns
Horns is a paranormal film which falls down in “Devil Demon and Hell”
subgenre.
•The main character possesses demonic
powers
•The titles are written in black with curves
like horns. The background is also red
which connotes the films connections to
hell.
The horns on his head is very convectional as the
characters often posses demonic trades.
He is accused of doing something which he hasn’t,
and no one believes in him.
The snakes in the trailer hints as being the serpent
from the bible, which shows his connections to the
Devil.
Resident Evil
This is a Monster Zombie film with a subgenre of a virus.
•There is a small group of survivors left.
•Abandoned locations
•They have to shoot them in the head
to kill them
The main protagonist is a woman who is
like a secret agent with inhuman
powers. That is counter stereotypical as
woman often are represented as being
weak.
When scratched or bitten the human
will turn into a zombie after some time.
That is very usual for zombie film
The hills have eyes
The hills have eyes is a very clear example of Bumpkin and Redneck
subgenre.
•Their location is remote and isn't
anywhere near society.
•The rednecks are often scary looking
and deformed.
The Red title makes it look more
dramatic.
The Rednecks are presented to be very
wild, which is very stereotypical for this
genre.
Another convection seen in the trailer is
the young girl being left alone and
attacked by the redneck.
Jaws
Jaws is a monster film under the category of “nature”
•The animal is very oversized and very
feared.
•The shark has an extreme blood thirst.
They try to catching the shark, but its
fighting them back
The ship they are on is getting slowly
damaged.
The shark is a lot stronger then they
though it was.
War of the worlds
This is a monster film with a subgenre of “alien” and “giant monster”
•There is a lot of destruction in the
trailer. This shows the different in power
between them.
•The alien has supernatural outer space
technology which humans do not
posses, and their weapons are
inefficient.
There is a mass evacuation which is very
typical.
The humans try to fight back, but it isn't
affective.
Follows a story of a protagonist who has
a family. This is very stereotypical as he
tries his best to protect them.
