The U.S.–Mexican War was a violent and shattering event for Mexican citizens that lasted from
1846–1848 in what is now the state of Texas. It drastically altered the course of Mexican and
American history for years to come. It occurred because of the unsettled disputes about the borders

rest of the Floridas, and the province of Texas." Mexico did not know how to handle this migration
from the U.S. as its citizens were still in the midst of the Mexican Revolution. It was the "insatiable
ambition of the United States, favored by [Mexican] weakness" that was the principle cause of the
U.S.–Mexican War. However, soon after the Mexican Republic was formed, it was realized that the
U.S. expansion into Mexico could become a real danger. Mexico had just attained its freedom from
Spain in the 1820s and as such, did not want to fall into another malevolent trap with the U.S.,
leaving its citizens unsure on how to proceed without starting a war. This is in part because not all
migration was unsolicited before the annexation of Texas. After Mexico declared its independence
from Spain it needed more settlers to populate the areas of Mexico without many citizens living in
its regions. Thus, in order to ease tensions between the countries a proposal was created that
involved U.S. citizens living in Texas to become citizens of Mexico and pledge allegiance to the
Mexican nation. They would become Catholics and obey the laws of their new nation. However,

high returns with little or no risk" (Sec.gov). These schemes take advantage of people who put their

many people through the use of Certificates of Deposit. His alpha male persona had built an empire
by defrauding individuals out of what has been reported up to $6 billion and some sources have

The Incredible Life of Samuel Houston
On March 2, 1793 Sam Houston was born on the family plantation in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
His father's name was also Samuel Houston and his mother was Elizabeth Houston. He was of
Scotch–Irish decent and the family was Presbyterian. He received a simple education at a school
which he only attended for only about six months. When Houston was thirteen his father died.
Because of the loss, in the spring of 1807 he and his mother along with his five brothers and three
sisters to Maryville in Blount County in Eastern Tennessee were the family established a farm on a
tributary of Baker's Creek. Houston went to a nearby school for the time. In 1809 Houston ran away
to the Cherokees in 1809 because he did not want to work on the family farm or the store the family
ran. He went across the Tennessee River and lived with the Cherokees for three years with Chief
Oolooteka who adopted him and gave him the Indian name Colonneh, which means "the Raven."
Houston viewed him as a father and the tribe as a surrogate family. Because of this he had great
sympathy for Native Americans for the rest of his life. In 1812 Houston moved back to Maryville
and opened a one room school house to repay some debts he owed. Later that year, when war broke
out with Britain, Houston enlisted in the army as a private at the age of twenty. Within four months

According to DC Comics the fastest character man alive is supposed to be Barry Allen, but there is
proof otherwise. In DC Comics there have been tests, races, and fights to prove that Godspeed is the
fastest character of all. Let's take a look at the evidence.
To start we need to look at the original speedster Jay Garrick. Jay was the first Flash and the only
one to not wear a mask. In his original comic appearance he was the only Flash in existence but
when DC Comics came out with Barry Allen he was sadly forgotten for a short time. After Barry
started to gain popularity they had to find someway to work Jay back into the main story. It was
eventually shown that he lived on an alternative world and that speedsters could cross back and forth

Despite being in Texas for only one year, Prince Carl of Solms–Braunfels was able to leave a lasting
legacy of German culture and traditions through the town of New Braunfels.
Early Life
Born on July 27, 1812 to Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Solms–Braunfels and Princess Friederike of
Mecklenburg–Strelitz, Friedrich Wilhelm Karl Ludwig Georg Alfred Alexander, known as Prince
Carl, was brought up in a wealthy noble family. He was educated as a soldier and courtier, and was
fluent in three different languages. As with most nobles of the time, Prince Carl had an illustrious
family tree and many connections. Because of this, he received important military assignments and
awards. In 1834, he secretly married Luise Auguste Stephanie Beyrich, a woman of lesser status.
This was considered a disgrace and not fit for a prince, so in 1841, he annulled his marriage to Luise
after being pressured to by his family. While serving in the cavalry of the Austrian Army, Prince
Carl stumbled upon G.A. Schrepf's guide to Texas immigrants, Charles Sealsfield's novel about
Texas, and William Kennedy's Texas: Its Geography, Natural History, and Topography. This sparked
an interest of Texas in the adventurous, charismatic prince.

It wasn't written in a way that it would permanently stick throughout the future for say like the U.S
Constitution. The Constitution of Texas in my point of view should be rewritten with new type of
language form that it would be précised to the point so it is clear to understand. Reasons being: The
Texas constitution is almost a hundred thousand words long with over 500 modifications, it is way
too long and disorganized, making it difficult to adequately understand. Resulting from many
addition of so many amendments, the constitution is now one of the longest and most confusing
constitutions out of all 50 states in the United States. Another even more alarming problem the
Texas Constitution has, is the fragmented executive branch. The governor doesn't have control over
other states authorities, instead, he shares authority with them. The governor's powers are limited.
Another problem it has is the high level of detail. The high levels of details are accompanied by
confusing organizations. Coverage of individual subject areas can be excruciating to read. For
example areas like local governments are found in several different parts of the constitution. In those
parts the constitution has some gaps where whole sections have been repealed. This means an entire
articles have been repealed leaving only the title but no text. That's a great example of why John E
Paynter stated that "you don't ever write a constitution like Texas's." I

I found it interesting that DeVore does not give a salary amount for the college graduate, so we have
no way of comparing the two instances. For example, what if the college graduate made only
$30,000 a year with a degree in arts, or what if she made $100,000 a year with a degree in business?
Thus, we have no way of knowing how unfair this situation really is to the mother who graduated
college. I think DeVore should have also discussed how many hours the other woman works at her
minimum wage job, for the sake of a complete and logical argument. The ambiguity in the amount
of hours she works, reminds me of a Humans of New York post I read, where a single mom of three
worked ninety–five hours a week at three different jobs, so that two of her children could go to Yale
and the third child could attend Colombia. This post highlights how the author does not consider the

substance in his hypothetical situation to show how the government wrongs the college graduate and

There is tremendous evidence, to suggest that individualism is a strong part of Texas culture such as,

James Bowie, and Sam Houston. Even "In his eulogy for Austin, Houston called him, "The Father of

To understand how became a Texas Hero we must first explore the struggles that lead him to Texas
and eventually. Houston's early years where less than promising despite being named after his
famous father. Houston disliked working on the family farm and going to school. When given the
chance to leave the hard work of the farm and work as a clerk Houston choose to runaway. When he
ran away meet with and was accepted into the Cherokee tribe not far from his family's farm. Here he
found comfort and acceptance in the tribe. Years later he returned to the white settlement becoming
a teacher and then joining the Tennessee Militia. Later he would serve in the United States House of
Representatives. In 1829 Houston married Eliza Allen of Tennessee, however the marriage was short
lived. After Houston's failed marriage he resigned his office and headed west out of Tennessee
where he rejoined living with the Cherokee. However, this time he returned depressed and took to
drinking heavenly.
