Online learning involves delivering instruction and content primarily via the Internet. Course management systems (CMS), also known as learning management systems (LMS) or virtual learning environments (VLE), allow anyone to create an online course for free. CMS can be used to support both fully online and blended classes that combine online and face-to-face learning. CMS help with collaboration, remediation, differentiated learning, and collecting student work electronically in e-portfolios. While CMS may seem difficult to learn, they are very user-friendly and require only a little time and effort to set up classes. Students benefit from CMS through authentic tasks, developing real-world technology skills, and access to coursework outside of class.
