“I have become increasingly aware though…there is 
absolutely no consistency in terms of what does go 
on there, what should go on there, what there should 
be a minimum expectation of. That can vary from 
very well developed modules if somebody has the 
skill set to do that over modules that literally do not 
have everything, not even a handbook. Everything is 
emailed or printed. It's archaic.”

Consistency
Conflicting Expectations 
“It is a challenge to the workload model but it's also a perception 
that online delivery takes time and is valuable. To a lot of people 
Blackboard was introduced years ago as a repository, you put 
your Powerpoints and everything in there and then you did your 
classroom stuff and it was a way you could talk to students. And 
that is still the perception of a lot of managers about how 
Blackboard works. They don't realise that it takes hours and 
hours to respond. You know, you get a discussion forum with 
twenty three entries and every student is expecting a personal 
response...and that's their expectations of online delivery.”

  • 5. “At the moment you just get thrown in and you have to figure it out as you go along as an academic. You end up being able to do what you have to do but then you have interesting conversations with other people and discover that there are much easier ways of doing these things.” © University of South Wales Support Model
  • 6. “I have become increasingly aware though…there is absolutely no consistency in terms of what does go on there, what should go on there, what there should be a minimum expectation of. That can vary from very well developed modules if somebody has the skill set to do that over modules that literally do not have everything, not even a handbook. Everything is emailed or printed.   • 7. Conflicting Expectations “It is a challenge to the workload model but it's also a perception that online delivery takes time and is valuable. To a lot of people Blackboard was introduced years ago as a repository, you put your Powerpoints and everything in there and then you did your classroom stuff and it was a way you could talk to students. And that is still the perception of a lot of managers about how Blackboard works. They don't realise that it takes hours and hours to respond. You know, you get a discussion forum with twenty three entries and every student is expecting a personal response...and that's their expectations of online delivery.” © University of South Wales
