On a lot of Hardstyle album covers, they usually include
brightly coloured titles and unique fonts. These colours
consist of neon green, pink and blue to appeal to the
audience. As Hardstyle is similar to ‘Rave’, by including
these neon colours they could gain a wider fan base
from these people who like to listen to rave.
3. Issues of Representation
Vacant expressions are often shown by artists/DJ’s of
this genre. This could be to express the idea that DJ’s
who create hard style tracks are aggressive through
their lyrics and music. Close ups are used extensively
for album covers, and dark back drops are often
common using bright coloured strobes and fonts.

It is a common stereotype that music genres such as
hardstyle and trance use female models to promote
their albums. They use women in provocative outfits to
help appeal to the target audience which is
predominantly males. Taking into this into account, I
am not going to use this in my production however I
will still use a woman on my front cover.
5. What to include?
For my magazine cover I am going to apply some of these issues of representation
into my production, however I will alter them to fit the brief.
Firstly, I will include unique fonts consisting of bright colours. Neon green and
pinks will be used and white also. I believe this will appeal to my audience as neon
colours are a favourite (stereotypically) amongst the rave scene.
I am going to use a female on the cover of my magazine however I am not going
to follow the common stereotype that a woman provocatively dressed must be
included. A stern face will be included like on most album covers of this genre and
she will be against a dark backdrop. This will help bring out the main sell lines as
they are brightly coloured.
I will try and use some lighting in my pictures, such as strobe lighting if I can get
access to the equipment. This would give off the idea that the model on the cover
is in the heat of the moment and at a gig or concert. Doing this will follow the
common stereotypes and should hopefully help appeal to my target audience.
