1. The band One Direction in this image has a low key lighting effect as the
image is in black and white. All of the boys are wearing black and white
which makes the image work well as they are all dressed smart and in
the same theme. The way they are all looking straight at the camera
gives a direct mode of address and reaches out to all of their fans,
especially because their fans have their each individual favourites and it
looks as though they are personally looking at you. The fact they are
stood in front of a brick wall is stereotypical of a boy band. The black
and white colour theme gives the band a bit of maturity, and reaches
out to an older target audience.
This picture of Olly Murs cleverly uses Guttenberg’s rule of thirds, as
Olly’s head is in the primary optical area, as it is the first thing you see
when you look at the image. The direct mode of address used gives
the idea that you and Olly are both looking at one and other. The high
key lighting makes the image look bright which represents Olly’s music
which is upbeat and quirky. The pink background makes Olly’s body
stand out, and also shows that the target audience for this image and
Olly’s music is mainly girls.
