WhatIamAdaptingandWhatitWas-
WhatIAdaptingitIntoandWhy-
I am adapting a video game by the name of Rainbow Six Siege, which is part of a long running franchise
owned by Tom Clancy. It is a first person shooter which allows players to control special agents from all over
the world, who have their own unique equipment and skills. Although the video game does feature player v
computer game modes, it is mostly known for its player v player mode in which two teams of five go head to
head to capture, secure and defuse objectives. They must go through a maximum of 5 rounds in casual
matches or 9 rounds total in competitive matches.

matches or 9 rounds total in competitive matches.
GenreandNarrative-
Each season will follow a basic structure, so that it fits within 6 episodes (roughly) per season. This format will begin with a
small introduction of the group on the first episode, since it is the longest of that season, and will then go onto introducing
the characters. For the first few episodes of each season, the story will only focus on characters and will follow the structure
that is demonstrated above. The story will comprise of a small amount of backstory for the character of the episode,
showing the audience how they got to where they are now and developing their characteristics in terms of the language
they use, their way of life etc. Once all characters have been introduced, the penultimate episode will include all of the
characters of that season and will show the sort of relationship they all have with each other, to further build narrative. This
formula will work for the first five seasons, however the possible seasons that have been labelled may have to follow a
different route, as although there are four operators in that seasons, they are not all from the same counter terrorist group.
To combat this problem, those seasons will consist of a similar first episode, followed by two character introduction
episodes and an episode explaining how they came together. However, halfway through there will be another hour long
counter terrorist group and character introduction episode to introduce the next pair of characters in the season. Finally,
something that will be in all seasons, the last episode (sixth episode for seasons one through five and seventh episode for
the possible seasons) will consist of all operators that have been shown in that season coming together for one mission
against a terrorist attack. There will have to be different types of terrorist attacks that the operators will have to tackle, so as
to keep it fresh every season.
The television show is essentially action based, with some elements of realism and fiction. However, due to the fictional
characters of which the show is based on, it will be an Action Sci-Fi show.
Due to the increasing number of terrorist activity, a certain person of interest going by the name of 'Six' reactivated a
specialist group program consisting of the best operators all armed with their own special equipment and ability. This
program was named Rainbow. After long preparation and an attack on a university, recruits of the Rainbow team are called
in to eliminate the terrorists and dispose of a bomb.
ConstraintsandOpportunities-
This idea in general is most likely going to require a large budget to create every episode, as there would be a need for money to hire various
venues (many of them being military venues), money to go abroad to other countries for other seasons, money for the large crew and actors to
play every character etc. In the end, it could be a very costly production which in turn can definitely become very successful and gross a lot of
profit, especially from fans that may be interested in the show after playing the original. However, in the early days of the show's production
there will be no doubt that the budget will be limiting the quality of the show and possibly ruin the chances of it blooming into something that
could be the next big television programme. In terms of the capabilities of the technology at our disposal in today's world, it will not have any
impact on the production and the show. With camera and computer technology always improving over the years, the show's quality may even
improve rather than be impacted by it. The fact that there are also numerous pieces of software out there for editing and adding effects, also
means that the television programme's special effects will look stunning and look real enough. As for the recreation of real historical places or
people, this will not be necessary as there is nothing non-fictional about this show besides the real counter terrorist group names. As for the
type of audience that I am targeting, the fact that the show will be based on a video game makes it so that the show may not get too much
attention unless it is marketed well and receives good reviews from critics, as it is essentially a niche show. However, fans of the game may
actually give the show a chance and watch it, meaning if enough dedicated fans enjoy it, then the niche audience will without a doubt make the
show popular.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege currently has no audio visual adaptation, but with the currently rising popularity of the video game, it is without
a doubt that this is a good time to create a television programme about the game. Although it will take away the interactivity that the original
provides the player, the show will serve more as a backstory to every character, something with many fans will enjoy and many others will
appreciate for the narrative and storytelling. As for the transition from 3D or the use of CGI, it will not be a big deal (CGI will be used to perhaps
create scenery or explosions etc.) as majority of the television show will be live action, in real locations with real sets, thus it should not be much
of a problem for the production. There may however be some legal and ethical problems with the production, mostly on the ethical side, as the
show will be portraying real counter terrorist groups, which is definitely a delicate subject to talk about. However, due to the fact that we are in
2017 and there have been many more movies and television shows that have touched on subjects such as this in the past, there should not be
any problems with portraying the groups through using fictional characters from a video game, as long as there is nothing that could cause
damages to the counter terrorist groups. As for the legal issues, I am assuming that Ubisoft has contacted me to create this television show and
as such, copyright problems should not arise from this. Also, the show would have to mention terrorism and will follow the journey of the
fictional characters combating them, which could actually aid in making the public feel safer, as they would see these operators inspired by real
groups of counter terrorists and feel as though they are in good hands. As for music, perhaps the soundtrack from the game will be used in the
show, but ultimately it would be ideal to hire a dedicated music composer to make music suitable for the feel of the show.
TargetAudience-
For the primary target audience, I will be looking to appeal to the fans of the video game, as a way to guarantee
viewership and attract current fans. These fans are likely to be within the age range of 15 - 25 years old, of the male
gender. This age range is likely to be interested in fast paced, action filled video games and movies, and even though the
show will not be as fast paced it will still incorporate some action sequences. However, it is likely that a minority of this
audience will not be interested in the show due to the slow paced character development side. The spending power of
this age group is essentially split in two, as there is a chance that some may have jobs and a small income therefore being
able to spend it on whatever they like, but on the other hand some may not have jobs, and therefore won't have the
freedom to do the same. For this reason, this group is likely to be somewhere between the D - C2 socio-economic
grouping. One thing is certain, this age group may have the ability to ask for money from relatives, so it appeals to the
entire group. Last but not least, the lifestyle of the 15 - 25 year olds I am appealing to will be of a middle - high class
citizen, who will actually have the freedom to spend money on the product I am offering.
Like the first target audience, this audience will be of male gender, however they will be much older, being in the range
of 30 - 40 years old. This audience is likely to be much more interested in television shows focused on character
development and storytelling, rather than solely focusing on the action paced sequences that video games offer. This
also links in with this target audiences' spending ability, as they would be more likely to pay to have access to the show
as they would be interested in it and have the money to do so, due to the likelihood of this age group being in
employment. Therefore, the audience is most likely to be in the socio-economic group C2 - B. Finally, the lifestyle of this
age group is likely to be busy, meaning they may not have the most time to spend on playing video games, so a weekly
episodic release should be decent for this target audience as its likely for them to have enough time to watch a close-to-
1-hour episode every week.
CinematicIdeas-
Lighting – Cold and dark at times, varies depending on the operators being shown and the mood of the scene. For example,
the scene illustrated on the storyboard will be quite dark to provide atmosphere, as well as quite green/blue to make it
seem cold and tense. The lighting will also depend on the environment of the scene, something which will vary as the show
goes along due to there being so many operators from different areas of the world. This could mean that sometimes the
lighting is quite bright and warm, and other times it is dark and gloomy.
Camera – Most of the shots will be quite close to the subject and fast paced, with a small amount of establishing shots or
shots that linger on showing the environment. Instead, the urgency and tension will be shown with quick cuts and some
longer shots to show suspense and put anxiety into the viewer.
Costumes – Costumes will have a modern style and look like every day clothes. When in military gear however, the
characters will be wearing costumes that are similar in look to the ones they wear in the video game, with some changes to
make them unique. The main reason for why the costumes cannot be altered completely is because the viewer needs to
identify the main character of that episode, so a unique costume would suit it better than a new, revamped version.
Editing – The editing of the series will be done at a high standard. Depending on the season the episodes will begin with
different title screens, for example the first season is based on the SAS, so it’ll start with the words SAS and then the name
of the episode. There’ll be a lot of quick cuts and transitions, with some fades.

However, it is likely that a minority of this audience will not be interested in the show due to the slow paced character development side. The spending power of this age group is essentially split in two, as there is a chance that some may have jobs and a small income therefore being able to spend it on whatever they like, but on the other hand some may not have jobs, and therefore won't have the freedom to do the same. For this reason, this group is likely to be somewhere between the D - C2 socio-economic grouping. One thing is certain, this age group may have the ability to ask for money from relatives, so it appeals to the entire group. Last but not least, the lifestyle of the 15 - 25 year olds I am appealing to will be of a middle - high class citizen, who will actually have the freedom to spend money on the product I am offering. Like the first target audience, this audience will be of male gender, however they will be much older, being in the range of 30 - 40 years old. This audience is likely to be much more interested in television shows focused on character development and storytelling, rather than solely focusing on the action paced sequences that video games offer. This also links in with this target audiences' spending ability, as they would be more likely to pay to have access to the show as they would be interested in it and have the money to do so, due to the likelihood of this age group being in employment. Therefore, the audience is most likely to be in the socio-economic group C2 - B. Finally, the lifestyle of this age group is likely to be busy, meaning they may not have the most time to spend on playing video games, so a weekly episodic release should be decent for this target audience as its likely for them to have enough time to watch a close-to- 1-hour episode every week.
  • 6. CinematicIdeas- Lighting – Cold and dark at times, varies depending on the operators being shown and the mood of the scene. For example, the scene illustrated on the storyboard will be quite dark to provide atmosphere, as well as quite green/blue to make it seem cold and tense. The lighting will also depend on the environment of the scene, something which will vary as the show goes along due to there being so many operators from different areas of the world. This could mean that sometimes the lighting is quite bright and warm, and other times it is dark and gloomy. Camera – Most of the shots will be quite close to the subject and fast paced, with a small amount of establishing shots or shots that linger on showing the environment. Instead, the urgency and tension will be shown with quick cuts and some longer shots to show suspense and put anxiety into the viewer. Costumes – Costumes will have a modern style and look like every day clothes. When in military gear however, the characters will be wearing costumes that are similar in look to the ones they wear in the video game, with some changes to make them unique. The main reason for why the costumes cannot be altered completely is because the viewer needs to identify the main character of that episode, so a unique costume would suit it better than a new, revamped version. Editing – The editing of the series will be done at a high standard. Depending on the season the episodes will begin with different title screens, for example the first season is based on the SAS, so it’ll start with the words SAS and then the name of the episode. There’ll be a lot of quick cuts and transitions, with some fades.
