1) Trailers typically start slow and build in pace by showing action-packed moments or chase scenes to engage viewers.
2) They showcase the best parts of the movie to entice audiences while withholding major plot details.

Director ‘Wes Craven’ to show that he is the
creator of these films because the first film was
a successful horror by adding it to the other
posters it creates hype because people will
know his name and by seeing it, it will make
people watch it. The reason why there aren’t
any star names is because he liked to take
actors that aren’t well known and put them in
to his movies so people would see them
differently than would if the actor was well
known.

The genre is communicated as a Horror because it is dark
and very obscure this is shown in the mise en scene of the
poster from the noose and the darkly toned colours used in
the poster.
10. Where institutions place their
products.
Institutions advertise their products on
billboards. The reason for this is because
they are big and eye catching which will
get most peoples attention when they
walk past it or drive past.
Bus stops are also a common place
for film advertisement because tenths
of thousands of people use public
transport so by putting posters on bus
stops, tube stations and train stations
lots of people will see them meaning
that the film will get more and more
recognition.
By showing posters in towns and cities a vast
number of people see them which will get
films known and also will appeal to audiences
also maybe persuading them to see the film.
Posters also create Enigma Codes (Barthes
theory) so by doing this the audiences will
want to see more of this poster and see the
questions they have in the poster unfold when
they see the movie in the cinema

12. The masthead goes well with the theme of
the magazine which is good because it will
meet the target market. This is because the
font is in a horror style and it’s a red which
indicates blood, danger and death which is
what horror is mainly based around.
The main strapline ‘Drag Me to Hell’ is a film
that has been released and it has been styled
in with Flames can connote hell which goes
well with the title of the film and also the
theme of the horror magazine. The picture
can been done from the movie and it shows
the Antagonist of the movie it goes well
because the picture is terrifying which will
really capture the attention of the magazines
target audience. The puff ‘Beware Her Curse’
is really dark and obscure the way it is in
blood links to the theme by adding more
horror and also it adds gore the page which is
also another aspect of which makes up the
horror movie Genre.

14. Audiences for the genre of
Horror Movies
After researching the audience for Horror Movies this is what I have found.
From my research I have discovered that a horror film is mainly targeted at people
between the ages of 15-25. Horror films are more mainly targeted at males as they
are more likely to be able to interact with the characteristics seen on the screen
which engages males more. Females cant interact with what is on screen which
would make them react differently to males. But because of this females tend to
enjoy horror movies more because the reaction they get and the adrenaline that
they get watching them.
A audience is based around on who they can relate to in that movie. For example
a film like Friday the 13th would relate to teens or people in their early 20’s because
that would be the age of the actors or the character they are portraying in the
movie. This is also the same with gender if it was a male who had the main roll
males would want to watch the film and if it was a female main roll females would
watch it all because they can interact with that person.
15. Audience Research, My Audience and
How I Will Target Them.
Audience will enjoy the horror genre of movies and also they are mainly are targeted at people 15-25 because at this stage of life
they seek all thrill and fun they can get and horror movies can provide them with that they seek and it excites the young audience
more than a more older and mature one. These films released for public consumption are stereotypically aimed at males because
they enjoy ‘Gore, Guts and Girls’ and also they are more likely to interact more with the characteristics seen on the screen which
may engage them more rather than women who stereotypically like films of the romance or comedy genre but counter-typically
the UK Film Councils website have stated that there has been an increase of females that enjoy watching horror movies and an
exceeding amount of men who enjoy the genre. Horror films are aimed more at the working class this is due to the level of
excitement which is gained from a film with a relatively cheap price. Research shows Higher class wouldn’t really watch films of
the horror genre but focus more on sub genre or genres such as romance or action which is due to the higher level of satisfaction
they seek when watching movies. Group audiences who watch horror movies usually are groups of friends and also couples who
are on first dates or have been with each other for a longer amount of time, research shows that married couples are more
unlikely to go and watch a horror film.
In Conclusion my audience will be males who seek a cheap thrill but also where I have a strong female lead it will also be aimed
at women because the relation of the characters puts the audience in the shoes of the characters gaining a stronger horror
effect. Also it will be aimed at people between the ages of 15-25 and who are of the working class.
Using my research I have developed an idea of how I will target my audience. Firstly the cast of my movie will have to range of
the ages between 15-25 and I have managed to gather cast who range between the ages of 17-19 which is good because it is
around the middle of the target audience. Furthermore there is a strong bond between the group of friends in my film and also
there is a romantic relationship between 2 people is this group which will further help me to target my audience because young
adults usually have strong friendships and also start to form relationships so this should help to pull in my audience in more and also
stereotypically in movies the main female protagonist (Final Girl) will have a close friendship with a male . To target males there will
be violence and blood and to target females I will have a strong female protagonist who is also the final girl (Clovers Final Girl
Theory). To make it appeal to the working class I will not have to do much but make it seem like the characters are from a working
class back ground.
16. Audience Research
For an extended idea of my audience I have I created a survey on and
then I got people in my school and sixth form to go and compete a short survey. I asked
different ages and genders to participate (13 Boys and 12 Girls).
How Old Are you?
18 and Over 16 to 18 (Sixth Form) 14 to 16 12 to 14
How Often Do You Watch Films?
Never 1X a Month 2X a Month
3X a Month 4X a Month 5X or More
