12. Analysis of Questionnaire
There’s a range of answers that I received from the questionnaire shown on
previous slides, yet nearly everybody that did answer it ended up with the
conclusion that they would not recommend the movie to friends. Reasoning
for this could either be that those who answered were not specifically fans of
horror movies, as shown within the questionnaire. Likewise, the fact that
majority of the people answering were 16 years old, once again as seen
within the questionnaire, meaning they wouldn’t be too interested in such a
serious movie as the Descent. Overall, the negative response towards the
movie can be that majority watched it during school time, where they are
likely to be with friends and not be paying attention to what is happening on
screen.

14. Purpose of the Analysis
Understanding the demographic of an audience, such as Celador’s horror movie audience, is very important as it
allows us to analyze what the relation between the product and the audience is, along with their social group.
From this, businesses can find out exactly what that person is like and what they do within their daily lives. For
example, a company is able to identify what the spending power is through finding out what they do for leisure
activities or what their spending pattern is, whilst also allowing the business to identify what their lifestyle is like. In
this instance, Kye Chan ‘Allen’ Wheeldon, will be the person that I am analyzing.
Although the Descent does not have a huge cult following, neither does it have a large amount of merchandise that
allows fans to show their love for the movie. However, it is one of the few horror movies that does touch upon a
group of friends becoming trapped in a cave system, which in many ways attracts new and already existing horror
movie fans. For this reason, its likely that some horror fans will take a likening to the movie as it brings a new touch
to the horror genre, whilst appealing to and having a similar resemblance to all other horror movies. Despite being
one of the less recognized franchises, it is successful in creating the horror formula, with the inclusion of an
excessive amount of blood and gore, making certain fans relate to the characters through the use of claustrophobic
situations and includes entertaining monsters which were ever really seen before, yet containing close
resemblances to previous horror antagonists such as Nosferatu’s strange rendition of Count Dracula. In the end,
although it did not have a huge supportive fan following previous to the movie’s release, the movie has potential to
intrigue horror movie fans to become fans of this franchise, which could spur many theories and a larger following.

Photography and Film Studies. His mother has a decent middle class job, and his step father has a well established
job as a book writer, which allows Kye to have a sustainable lifestyle.
Lifestyle: Kye Allen has a comfortable lifestyle, visiting the gym on a daily basis with friends and enjoys gaming when
he has free time. His financially stable lifestyle allows him to pay for the gym and new video games.
Favorite Type Music: Kye enjoys listening to genres such as Rap, R&B, Soft Core Rock, Pop and Gangsta Rap.
Favorite Film Franchise: Scarface
Hobbies: Exercising at the Gym, Gaming, Eating Food, Football, Rugby, Athletics, .
Spending Power: Since Kye is 16 years old, he resides with his mother where he plays no rent, bills or tax. He has a
part time job at Poundland where he earns £6.40 an hour. Although he earns his own money, Kye also gets money
from his mother, allowing him to purchase his own clothes and shopping, meaning he has a sustainable and
comfortable lifestyle. The fact that he enjoys the Indiana Jones franchise can have an influence on how much he
enjoys the Descent. However, due to the fact that the Descent is a horror movie, he is likely to not enjoy it as much,
despite both movies having protagonists that enjoy exploration. Therefore, his disposable income can be used to visit
the cinemas to watch the Descent, whether with friends, family or alone.
