Notes On The, Leads And Sales Funnel
Secret #3: Leads, Leads, Leads
You've already learned in secret #2 how important it is to write and promote quality content. Now that you're familiar with the techniques, however, it's
important to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
Content promotion should be guided by a strategy, if you want to make the most of lead generation. Finding the focus of your campaign and coming
up with clearly defined goals will be the keys to success, enabling you to track response and measure the outcome of each campaign you carry out.
Introduction: Systemizing the Market and Sales Funnel
Inbound online tactics generate 54 percent more leads than traditional advertising and marketers believe that such strategies deliver below average ...

Purchase: this phase is defined as a specific action undertaken by the customer.
Repurchase: this step involves the emotional response of the buyer and their satisfaction with the product that will potentially lead to a repuchrase.
Awareness
In order to understand and make full use of the customer buying cycle, you will need to find the right market data and use it effectively. You need to
come up with a buyer persona that will guide all other steps of the process.
Know how to identify the benefits that your clients want. Benefits and features are two individual concepts that need to be defined and understood
individually. Features are defined as basic characteristics. Benefits, on the other hand, refer to positive results that can be expected after undertaking a
particular action.
Do market motivation research: this kind of research will give you access to the beliefs and requirements of a particular market segment. One–on–one
interviews and surveys can be used effectively to figure out what makes customers choose one option over another.
Once you do this research, you can come up with a marketing and a content plan that will target the core beliefs and the benefits that the particular
market segment you're interested in wants.
The final step of understanding the customer buying cycle involves creating a sense of urgency. This tactic has become tremendously important, yet

The Importance Of Natural Resources In China
Resources
Chinas natural resources include its vast farmland, water supply, mineral deposits, and plant and animal biodiversity. The country is rich with natural
resources and utilizes them for tourism and exporting. China is a large country with much of its land dedicated to farming. Approximately ten percent
of its rich soils is farmland. The country produces wheat, corn, rice and many other cash crops for exportation. Water is another vast resource in the
country. China is ranked sixth in the world in total water supply, which it utilizes to produce electricity via the hydropower industry. The country is also
rich with mineral deposits. In total, there are 150 minerals found in China. The country is even ranked number one in the world for having the most
deposits of 12 different minerals. It is considered one of the only countries in the world with such a large variety of minerals. China has ample
biodiversity in its plant and animal life. Many of its plants and animals are very rare throughout the world. To protect its plant and animal resources,
the people of China have built many nature reserves. The country also has a rich supply of oceanic resources, utilized for aquaculture, and exports
many of its seafood goods.
It is lender in mining gold, zinc, lead, molybdenum, iron ore, coal, tin, tungsten, rare earths, graphic, vanadium, antimony and phosphate. She holds
second place in mine production of copper, silver, cobalt, bauxite/alumina, manganese.

Lead Poisoning: America Will Suffer Essay
In this day and age consumers always want more and they want it at the lowest price possible, but are they willing to risk the danger that could derive
from it? Hundreds of thousands of toys are imported daily from overseas countries, such as China, into the United States, some toys are inspected for
irregularities, but most are not. This may not seem like such a problem but the truth of the matter is that it is one of the larger problems in the nation
right now. Children's toys imported from China are found to be contaminated with high levels of lead and infecting American children with lead
poisoning. Some people may say that this is an unnecessary argument, that China isn't doing anything harmful, maybe it was just a few faulty toys, ...

Mattel is starting to take a step in the right direction, according to Renae Merle from The Washington Post, "Mattel said it was strengthening its
process for preventing the use of lead based paint, it will only permit paint from certified suppliers and require every batch to be tested, company
officials said" (Merle 1). 80% of toys in the United States are imported from China, according to Renae Merle, and 65% of those toys are created by
Mattel. Although that is a step in the right direction, that still leaves 15% of the toys in the United States at a higher risk of having high traces of
lead on them, going undetected. Stores like Toys 'R' Us that sell toys sold by companies other than Mattel, should be required to post the
percentage of how much lead is in each toy directly next to or near the toy so that parents can be aware of this problem. If parents are not made
aware of this problem, it is going to cause more concerns health wise. Michelle Albert, a stay at home mom of two children states that "I feel our
country should be more careful about the things we import" (Albert 1). She fears that her children may have been exposed to these toys and has no
way of knowing until it may be too late. If the United States does not start regulating more toys more frequently, then the number of hospital visits in
children will see a dramatic increase because of the continued exposure to lead exposed toys. This is going to

This will make it easier for clients to buy from TRO relative to their competition. This scenario of course assumes that TRO offers superior products to
their competition.
TRO by default will increase the number of units sold if they are able to increase the number of clients and frequency of purchase. But they can also
increase the number of units sold by understanding how to add value. For example TRO can offer existing clients some discount say 20% if they buy
more volume or let clients have their products and let them pay later.
2.2SWOT Analysis
We have ascertained the three things above that must happen before growth can occur be it in territories that TRO currently have sales people or
territories like Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Denver and California that Steve is looking to move into.
Steve has to perform a SWOT analysis on the current territories he has sales people to consolidate before looking to expand to other territories.
What are TRO strengths in the nine territories east of the Mississippi river? Can these strengths be duplicated in the new territories they want to
enter? For example TRO is known for its service and ability to provide specialized products and not price. So Steve has to be sure that in the new
territories they will find customers that value

Top Reasons Users Don 't Convert on Your Website
There are many reasons why users don 't convert as buyers or sales leads on B2B websites, and each company website has its own conversion killers
that are unique to the business and its online audience. A Stanford University study found that 80 percent of prospects judge a business 's credibility by
website design features.[1] Many of the negative judgments that people make involve unfriendly mobile design, lack of self–service options and
hard–sell tactics that turn off members who prefer a lighter touch that lets people make their own choices of whom to visit and engage when they 're
ready to buy. Conversion rate optimization or CRO involves improving a website's design, functionality and user experiences while eliminating those
pesky attributes that kill conversions.
Leading B2B Conversion Killers
It 's useful for any company to make a list of conversion killers based on general best practices and features unique to the business. Rectifying the
issues might take a website redesign, system integrations, customized features or fine–tuning content strategy. Median conversion rates for generic
searches are only slightly higher than 2 percent across all websites.[2] B2B websites receive fewer visitors than retail operations, so they 've got to
do a better job of converting users into leads by convincing them to sign up for emails or a newsletter, register for faster service,

Water Contamination Research Paper
Water contamination due to increased population and industrial activities is one of the most challenging issues to the researchers, because it is
continuously increasing threats to both human health and the environment. With the rapid development of industries such as metal plating facilities,
mining operations, fertilizer industries, tanneries, batteries, paper industries and pesticides, etc.,(1,2) heavy metals wastewaters are directly or
indirectly discharged into the environment increasingly, especially in developing countries. Unlike organic contaminants, heavy metals are not
biodegradable and tend to accumulate in living organisms. Many heavy metal ions are known to be toxic or carcinogenic and cause high blood pressure,

Owing to the standard limits of water, it generates a strong demand to improve the efficiency of existing methods for removing Pb and Zn from the
water. Many techniques have been reported for the effective removal of hazardous heavy metals from aqueous solutions such as adsorption,
flocculation, coagulation, membrane filtration, electrochemical operations, solvent extraction, bio–sorption, chemical precipitation, ion–exchange, as
well as various other processes (6–7). However, most of these techniques have several disadvantages such as production of secondary pollution, high
cost, high levels of energy and chemicals needed, and weak treatment operation at low metal concentrations. (8–9). Adsorption is now recognized as an
effective and economic method for heavy metal wastewater treatment. The adsorption process offers flexibility in design and operation and in many
cases will produce high–quality treated

Asarco Copper Refinery Case Study
Regulated by state, local, and federal authorities; the Asarco copper refinery operated for more than 110 years and employed more than 25,000 people
/worker. As time progressed, numerous supposive health hazards that included pollution, lung cancer, lead poisoning, and exposure to dangerous
chemicals such as: Zinc, Cadmium, and Chromium, were brought upon the workers of Asarco and the community of El Paso, Texas. Due to numerous
court hearings pertaining to the subject of environmental safety, Asarco closed its doors in 1998, leaving many employees with no jobs. The
company was charged a bill of $52,000 to clean up the lot they subsided on but fought for ten years to get the right to reopen business (Stafford). On

Asarco granted opportunity because it provided work to families and individuals of the Sun City. The smokestack company provided to more than
three–hundred seventy men and served as a shelter in world war two, but the memories of Asarco that citizens reminisce on was the hazards and
sickness the company generated (Shapleigh). Though the company impacted the city in a positive manner, the public opinion viewed Asarco as a
"waste of space that can be made into something more attractive to the tourist's eye" (Muench). Taggers never even attempted to graffiti the place and
citizens characterized the company to smell like "a burnt out cigar bud" (Safford). The town real estate business also had no limits for the Asarco lot
and preferred it to be empty and not ruin the "perfect society" of the western side of El Paso and the Mt. Cristo Rey mountain area (Muench). Asarco
was not welcomed by the community after the disease and pollution it brought upon the town. Why many prejudiced against the company is proven in
an article by Christopher Roberts, the prejudice was due to the fact that minorities were populating the city and taking jobs from the "common white
man" (Roberts). Speculations pointed out that those against the Copper refinery were citizens that subsided miles away from the site, so far that it was
questioned how the pollution reached their house limits. In an interview with

and heavy bullets, there were three favorite choices. The first was a Winchester offering, WW296, a ball powder with a good burning rate and

The ball–shaped powders worked well through most powder measures, eliminating the need to weigh each and every charge, a time consuming step
that anyone loading hundreds of rounds of ammunition per week would be glad to give up. Weighing charges could only be eliminated if it was
proven that there was no variance from charge to charge, but the prudent loader would still measure one out of each 5 or 10 just to make sure that

As previously stated, it is not pure lead. The lead mixture used for making cast pistol bullets is usually an alloy combination of lead, tin and
antimony in varying amounts. The most popular recipe was known as the Lyman #2 mix, comprised of 90% lead, 5% tin, and 5% antimony. Pure
lead, tin and especially pure antimony, were difficult to find and sometimes expensive. Linotype was a good source of an antimony rich alloy, but
type presses (those used to print newspapers) were being displaced by modern printers. The computer age had begun to impact our source of
antimony. Initially, there was a surplus. Soon, with no market no more type metal was being produced. Dennis had a stockpile, but I had to turn to
alternate sources. The most abundant source of lead in the salvage yards now came in the form of wheel weights. Clip on wheel weights used to
balance car tires were made from an alloy that was actually legislated to be consistent. It was held to precise standards and governed by the
department of transportation. It made sense when you think about what could happen to a chunk of lead thrown from a spinning wheel because it
was too soft to stay put or too brittle and broke off. Wheel weight alloy typically consisted of 97% lead, 2% antimony, and a little less than 1% tin.
This was not the ideal mix for making bullets. However, by adapting the process, bullets made entirely from wheel weights could be hardened to

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa ) Essay
During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of toxic wastes during the manufacturing and processing of products.
These hazards were often left abandoned and no one really paid attention to their effect on our environment. In the 1980s Congress established a
Superfund Program. It was left for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer thesuperfund program, to find these hazardous sites,
investigate and determine the worst ones, and then clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and 1,400 were
named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was Picher Oklahoma named in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the
neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile area became known as the Tar Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8
September 1983 ("challenge posed to children's health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek Superfund Site as a case–study," n.d.). All of the
information was finally out. The hazards were known. It was time for the clean up to begin. Where do you begin when a problem is this large? The
Environmental Protection Agency was tasked to take the lead in the clean–up. It was easy to identify the hazards: contaminated water, contaminated
soil, possible area collapse, and the lead laced chat piles. To begin the Superfund site cleanup the EPA started with monitoring of the surface water, acid
mine water discharge, and

heavy metal concentration in fish was beyond the permissible limits and therefore not fit for human consumption (Javed. & Usman, 2011).

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infection Control
Infection Control
Since the manual handling task requires close contact with the patient, all handlers should follow strict infection control protocols in ICU. A recent
study showed that by strictly following infection control protocols the incidence of hospital–acquired infections could be reduced (8). In addition, an
observational study concluded that better hospital–wide infection control would reduce the number of MRSA–positive patients admitted to ICU and
acquisition of MRSA within ICU (9). Therefore, it is important to minimize the spread of the infection by performing the following aseptic techniques.
Hand washing is the most important methods of preventing the spread of infection (7). Radiographers should wash their hands before ... Show more

However, there is no universal approach and best practices must be adapted to fit the epidemiology of specific ICUs and should also consider the
available resources (10).
Radiation safety
Radiation safety of patients, radiographers and other individuals in ICU should be considered according to the "As Low As Reasonably Achievable"
(ALARA) principle. General radiation safety principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the patient is male, no pregnancy check is
needed.
To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x–ray beam should be minimized. Therefore, it is important for
radiographers to avoid unnecessary repeats and thus unnecessary exposure. Gonad shielding should be used on patients if possible, which is
particularly important for young patients. In addition, proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be applied according to patient
situations to minimize radiation dose (7).
Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields should be limited by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as
far away from source as possible to increase distance between radiation source and themselves. They should stand behind appropriate radiation shields
or, more commonly, wear appropriate protection (7). According to a previous study, lead apron is the most common method of radiation protection as it

Questions On Sales And Marketing Funnel Issues
If you're unfamiliar with the term, a marketing funnel is the process that leads a prospective customer through several stages on their way toward
purchasing your product. It goes something like this:
A lead becomes a prospect, who becomes a customer, who becomes (if you're lucky) a repeat customer. The whole thing probably sounds daunting, and
it kind of is: Sales funnels have been around for a very long time, but they still give even modern, technologically savvy businesses trouble.
We're going to discuss seven basic suggestions for dealing with sales and marketing funnel issues, and recommend some tools to help you streamline
and improve your own conversion process. With just a bit of patience and some attention to the finer details, you'll have your conversion process
humming along like a well–oiled machine in no time.
Strategy 1: Target the Right Leads
It stands to reason that any concerted effort towards building a better sales funnel needs to begin with building better leads. If you're not pursuing the
people most likely to respond to your product or service, then what's this all for?
Online Tool: If you haven't already, it's probably time to get serious about learning (and possibly earning your certification for) Google Analytics.

Why Is Social Media Important? Essay
Social media is a platform to build authentic relationships with your customers.
And as a SaaS business, your team must create connections that not only grow your revenues but also shape your brand.
So, why is social media important? Take a look at the four reasons below.
1. Shape Your Brand Narrative
Research shows that "45% of a brand's image can be attributed to what it says and how it says it." So, it's vital that you tell a narrative that highlights
your brand's values.
Social media opens the door to truly expressing how your SaaS can benefit customers. You can showcase your company's culture or demonstrate your
product's worth.
"At its essence, a story isn't really about your company. Your company is the construct, but the goal of the story is to create a connection with your
customers. Tell your story in such a way that it tells your customers we relate to you, we understand you, we are like you," says Neil Patel, a lifelong
evangelist of Kissmetrics.
Shopify accomplishes this technique on Twitter. A simple tweet about success stories empowers their followers to continue their entrepreneurial
journeys.

Sit down with your team and explore how to bridge your brand with your target audience. Then, broadcast those insights on social media.
2. Engage With Industry Leaders
When developing a marketing strategy, you'll quickly learn the significance of teaming up with others. Collaborations can take your business to the
next level.

Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay
Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES
Abstract:
It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level exposure to pollutants common in the environment
including the air, water, food and numerous consumer products such as thecosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most important
sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal
or foreseeable conditions of use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were analyzed in Al Madina SAES
laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected
heavy metals were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES). As and Cu were not found in all
samples except in foundation sample found in concentration 0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03–0.92 ppm. Mercury
ranged between 0.04–1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026–0.091ppm.
1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly
applied to human skin and mainly produce local exposure to certain ingredients. Numerous consumer products like cosmetics and toiletries have been

How Can Sales Organizations Use Different Mechanisms To...
Choosing the best KPIs for your CRM application depends on the goals the organization sets for the application. The best KPIs to increase traffic and
sales for an organization focus on leads.
1. Lead acquisition
Lead tracking begins with a goal. Sales organizations use different mechanisms to acquire leads. Examples include blog sign ups, list subscriptions,
websites, webinar signups and ad responses.
The first step is to quantify a number of leads. Leads may be quantified using tools like Google Analytics integrated into the CRM to track the number
of visitors to a website, lead capture page, blog, or another capture mechanism where the organization wants the lead to take a specific action. Once the
number of leads is determined, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organizations want to track the first contact and any further follow–ups that take place. Sales actually increase over time through multiple contacts. By
tracking them, it helps the organization find the sweet spot for determining how many follow–ups are necessary to make the sale and increase revenue.
This will also decide the resources the organization needs to allocate to get the job done. Tracking that monetary and time cost is also necessary to
decide if an organization will reach its sales goals. Email allows an opportunity
If email follow–up is used, it provides an opportunity for the organization to automate the follow–up process and increase sales without extra work.
4. Sales process tracking
Companies that have sales funnels where there is more than one product involved will want to track each step of the funnel. This includes tracking the
number of leads that were sent the offer and then the number of leads that made a purchase. Although this number will go down as leads get further
into the funnel because the price of the products will get higher, there may be situations where an organization can tweak each level of the funnel to
improve sales and conversions. Surveys are an element that an organization may want to add to the CRM as well as tracking the results of those
surveys to determine why leads didn't purchase. This data may be used to tweak the sales funnel. The organization

Soil Pollution Involving The Accumulation Of Excess Heavy...
Soil pollution involving the accumulation of excess heavy metals is toxic to humans and other mammalian life.1 The effect on animals can
ac–cumulate in the food chains and instigate public health concerns in the future. Normally, the exposure due to food chain transfer is chronic,
however, there are rare acute cases where direct ingestion of such pollutants is poisonous.2 Given the importance of the situation, the determination of
toxic heavy metals in the environment is essential.
The primary source of soil pollution can be at–tributed to the history of industrial/commercial activi–ties in certain areas.4 We have chosen to analyze
the soil at Northwestern University to highlight human factors and contributions to this pollution. Given the history of the Northwestern, there are
many areas of the campus that differ in properties such as the age of buildings, the proximity to bodies of water, areas of construction, and high
traffic. For use in our study, the campus was divided into areas A, B, C, D, E, & F (Figure 1). Since Northwestern has been regularly undergoing
construction in the past century, we pre–dicted that the areas with older buildings would have different metal concentrations when compared with areas
with more recent architecture. Due to the use of lead–based paint in old construction, we expect that there should be a higher concentration of metals
such as lead found near older buildings such as University Hall or Locy Hall in area E in comparison to area F with

Biochemical Pathways of Heavy Metal Poisoning
Biochemical Pathways of Heavy Metals Poisoning
BIO101 (Principles of Biology)
6 July 2012
Abstract
The biochemical pathways of heavy metal poisoning are routes by which the metals pass in the body as they impair and destroy normal cellular and
organ activity. The most common types of heavy metal poisoning are caused by lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury. They are also the most
extensively studied at the moment. Lead poisoning occurs mainly by the inhibitory effect that the metal imposes on enzymes and subsequent distortion
of essential biochemical pathways. The metal disrupts calcium metabolism and subsequently causes neurotoxicity. It also inhibits the reduction of
glutathionine in a biochemical process meant to produce antioxidants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biochemical Pathways of Lead Poisoning
Disruption of Calcium Metabolism and Neurotoxicity
Lead can activate calmodulin and displace calcium. Therefore, lead can interfere with calmodulin found on the surface of synaptic vesicles hence
affecting protein phosphorylation and consequently impairing neurological behavior. This interferes with the roles of calcium in: * Releasing
neurotransmitters, * Regulating certain enzymes that limit the rate at which neurotransmitters are synthesized, * The packaging of transmitters within
vesicles of presynaptic compartments * Regulation of hormone–dependent cyclases
Enzyme Inhibition in Glutathionine Metabolism Pathway
Lead can be bound to the sulfhydryl groups found on some enzymes.
Normal and functional glutathionine derives its antioxidant properties from the thiol group that occurs in the cystein within it. This group can be
readily reduced or oxidized.
Lead (like arsenic and mercury) interferes with glutathionine metabolism by binding to its sulfhydryl complex of the key enzyme involved in this
biochemical pathway.

An Marketing Strategy For Garner More Leads, Customers,...
If you're using an inbound marketing strategy to garner more leads, customers, and sales, offering some exclusive giveaways can really help. These
giveaways often garner better word–of–mouth than other kinds of advertising and for a lot less money. However, to create a giveaway with the most
effectiveness, you need to keep a few things in mind. Here's how these steps break down and why you'll want to use them in your campaign.
Defining Your Target Audience
Before you can start the stages of your marketing campaign, you need to know who your target audience is. Otherwise, any custom merchandise or
giveaways that you include in your giveaway won't be effective: Even the best items won't appeal to the wrong crowd.

Inbound marketers use several different types of lead–generating/ content–promoting tools. They are:
Niche–related blogs Videos on YouTube and Vimeo Email newsletters Social media sites Books on Amazon Onlineadvertising on Google and other
sites Testimonials Case studies
This list isn't exhaustive. It's just meant to get you thinking about ways you can attract giveaway participants.
Additionally, getting visitors is only the first part of the equation. The second thing you need to keep in mind is that you want the visitors to your site
to give you their contact information. These will become your marketing leads. This helps build your mailing list so that you always have someone to
sell your goods and services to. This is where a powerful giveaway can help you.
For this to work, you'll want a giveaway promo that makes it worthwhile to enter your contest. According to Shopify, some possible giveaway items
include gift cards, travel packages, or a limited edition product. This can even include brand merchandise (more on this in a bit.)
Shopify goes on to explain why you should do giveaways as part of an effective marketing strategy. For example, a short viral marketing plan

Water Pollution
"Without water, life would not exist." This is a quote taken from Water.org. However, it needs a little clarification, Without clean water, life will not
exist for long. There are many countries today that do not have access to clean water. This necessity we the people of the United States of America
take for granted is not a normal occurrence in every country. With this paper we will look at five different countries with the most polluted water in
the world. We will see what is being done to help reduce thewater pollution and how the water pollution is effecting the economy is these countries.
The first country on the list is China. More specifically Linfen, China. In 2007 Linfen was dubbed by Time Magazine the most polluted city in the
world. The air was so dirty from all the coal mining that it would turn the laundry drying on the line black from all of the coal dust. The residents
literally choke at night dues to the coal dust. Every resident over 60 dies from lung disease. (Schmitt) It is also estimated that over half of Linfen's
well water is considered unsafe to drink. (motherboard) Clean water is a necessity for a thriving economy. Much of the pollution in Linfen is found
in the smog that is in the air, however, it is in the water as well. To live in Linfen and know that if you live to 60 you will probably die from lung
disease soon after. Although, Linfen is trying to improve their lifestyle withrecycling and trash cleanup they simply will not stop the coal mining
business. Which in all fairness is understandable since coal mining is the heartbeat of the economy for Linfen. However, there should be more
research into purifying their water and lowering the coal dust, but all in all things are looking up for Linfen. The residents are optimistic that they can
reduce the pollution and they can have a thriving economy too. The next place we look at is Haina, Dominican Republic. Haina has a problem with
battery recycling and smelting which has resulted in huge concentration of lead being pumped into their water. (science/nature) Lead poisoning is a
huge problem. Unlike some poisons that may wears off a little with time lead stays in the body and builds up until eventually the person drops dead.

The Crisis Of Mattel
The previous crisis of Mattel included that the products were tainted with lead paint and that some of the products had loose little magnets. Both of
these faulted products could have caused harm to the children. This is why it was decided to recall all these products and take measures to prevent this
from happening in the future. Various stakeholders were affected by thiscrisis, for example parents, children, manufacturers and investors. Which is
why Mattel had to come with a strong crisis communication strategy.
Within a few days the factory that produced the tainted toys was identified and the production was stopped. An investigation was launched to determine
the scope of the problem. This ended at the end of July and by the beginning of August, Mattel alerted the public and started taking back all the toys.
Afterwards, Mattel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A strength of the implemented strategy was the use of several media channels (TV, newspaper and the internet) and the good timing. Mattel responded
very accurately. Especially in crises where the organization is to blame, responsibility should be taken immediately. Also the transparency and
sincerity of the message were well communicated to the public. Because being honest and direct when addressing the target audiences about what
happened is of utmost importance. Mattel communicated the new safety regulations, the reassurance that measures had been taken to prevent this
from happening in the future and a public apology from the CEO clearly. The video of the CEO was another strength of the crisis communication
strategy. Because with a video you can reach a very large audience and the public can see if you are sincere. A video news release increases the
chance that TV news media will air information about the recall because it adequately provides information about the recall to TV news producers in
the form that they need and will be able to use

Basel Convention
Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous wastes and their Disposal
In the late 1980s, a tightening of environmental regulations in industrialized countries led to a dramatic rise in the cost of hazardous waste disposal.
Searching for cheaper ways to get rid of the wastes, "toxic traders" began shipping hazardous waste to developing countries and to Eastern Europe.
When this activity was revealed, international outrage led to the drafting and adoption of the Basel Convention. During its first Decade (1989–1999), the

Why India?
The reasons why India continues to draw in the waste of developed countries are not difficult to find. High profit margins, owing to poor environmental
regulation is a major factor. In developed countries, it is extremely expensive to get rid of such waste. Most lead smelters in the U.S. have been shut
down, and those that remain can spend more than $10 million per year on pollution control alone. In India's unregulated backyard smelter industry,
there are very high profit margins. Indian traders thus outbid their European counterparts for such wastes in the international markets, paying almost 30
percent more for waste like zinc ash. Many other developing nations in Africa and Southeast Asia have stopped buying these hazardous wastes.
According to Greenpeace, an international environmental organization, more than 100,000 tons of potentially toxic waste entered India in 1998–1999.
Greenpeace has documented imports of more than 100,887 tons of hazardous and potentially hazardous wastes into India between 1998–1999. These
include zinc ash and residues, used batteries, brass dross, copper cables possibly coated with PVC, and wastes of toxic metals like lead, chromium,
cadmium and thallium. And this quantity is just the veritable tip of the iceberg, it would seem, for these figures do not take into account the import of
deadly toxins like asbestos, mercury or recycled plastic resins. Also recycling of ships is a big

Background of Kindergarten Education and Children 's Psychology
Learning is developmental: Children, and their brains, benefit from enriched home and school environments (Connell, 2009) According to the Piaget's
research those children having four main stages of mental development. First stage, it is sensory motor intelligence to cover brain in the first and two
years of children's life. For this time, children know the world through their perceptions ability, such as they know what water is that can drink or
splash. Second stage, children begin to intuitively or symbolically think during their preschool years. For those years, children perform their mental
motor from brain thinking to actual operation. For instance, "he can now "in his mind" pour the water back into its original container and verify that its
quantity has not changed." (Howard, 1976) Lastly, children can begin to formally operate brain thought during early adolescence. For example, they
can write equations of H2O, and complete logical controls. Piaget views this sequence of four stages as both invariant and universal. Given sufficient
interaction with a normal environment and sufficient time, every normal child should realize this sequence: it is part of the human blueprint. (Howard,
1976)

Literature Review : Water Pollution
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Water pollution
FAO (1992) noted that the adulteration of water supplies from both natural and anthropogenic sources has impacted on the health and economic status
of populations. Human activities contribute to pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides into aquatic ecosystems. These anthropogenic
activities continuously increase the amounts in the environment. According to Malik et al. (2010), heavy metal pollution is burgeoning at an frightening
rate and has become an important worldwide problem Increase in population, urbanization, industrialization and agricultural practices as well as lack of
environmental regulations have further aggravated the situation (Gupta et al., 2009).
Heavy metals are assimilated or incorporated in water, sediments and aquatic biota evoking pollution in water bodies since they cannot be degraded
(Linnik and Zubenko, 2000; Malik et al., 2010). As the metal levels in many aquatic ecosystems increase, they raise the concern of metal
bioaccumulation through the food chain and related human health hazards (Wright and Welbourn, 2002; Agah et al., 2009). Despite significant efforts
to reduce trace metal loads in effluents, municipal wastewater was still found to convey large amounts into the environment (Buzier et al., (2006);
ГњstГјn, 2009; Hope et al., 2012). As a consequence, the heavy metals present in municipal wastewater are still present in the effluents and sludge
(Chen et al., 2008; Chanpiwat

Mercury : The Element Mercury
Mercury: The element mercury has the chemical symbol Hg; it is a silver colour and is a liquid at room temperature. Mercury has a high density and
surface tension and can easily break up into small droplets. Mercury can dissolve some metals resulting in amalgams, metal alloys of mercury. It is not
soluble in water or most other liquids, but will dissolve in lipids (fats and oils). With fluctuations in temperature, mercury expands and contracts evenly
with these changes and is classed as a non–combustible liquid. (Mercury characteristics) When mercury enters the environment from emissions in the
air, water or soil, it oxidises into other compounds of mercury. Both mercury and its compounds have high acute (short–term) and have high chronic
(long–term) toxicity on aquatic life. Eating fish contaminated with mercury has caused poisoning in humans; birds and land animals exposed in the
same manner could also be subject to the same effects. Mercury and its compounds are highly persistent in water and the environment and will bio
accumulate or concentrate in the tissues of fish. These concentrations will be considerably higher than the water from which the fish is taken. Mercury
chloride will act as a particle, following wind patterns, and being deposited by rain. Elemental mercury may be a gas in the atmosphere. Emissions of
mercury and or mercury compounds can produce elevated, but still low–level concentrations in the atmosphere around the source. Elemental mercury

Lake Erie Research Paper
LEAD LEVELS OF BUFFALO
Buffalo is one of the biggest places for poisoning people with lead. Lead has mostly come from paint and air pollution. Air pollution comes from oar
and metals processing and planes operated on metal fuel. Water pollution comes from factories on the coast of Lake Erie and the Niagara River.
Scientists say that pollution in the lake is creating lead, and then lake water is being mixed into the paint formula causing lead levels to rise. Why it is
hard to stop lead poisoning is because there has been 1.8 to 4 billion untreated sewage every year in the Niagara River and 600 million gallons of
sewage overflows in the Niagara River.
History Of Lake Erie
Lake Erie was first created from glaciers about 14,000 years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sewage is a very big problem in Buffalo also. This problem is so big that we had to add this to our project.
Problems
Sewage kills fish and hurts the world and Buffalo more and more everyday because of the amount of sewage dumped into the Niagara River which
moves into Lake Erie later.
Prevention
Companies are starting to stop dumping sewage into the river. Volunteers are helping get rid of sewage everyday. The damage has been super bad but
people are starting to help. Hopefully after a long time we will end sewage in the lake.
Effects from lead poisoning
In children
Acute lead poisoning may cause irritability, decreased attentiveness, and acute encephalopathy. Cerebral edema develops over 1 to 5 days, causing
persistent and forceful vomiting, ataxic gait, seizures, altered consciousness, and, finally, intractable seizures and coma. Encephalopathy may be
preceded by several weeks of irritability and decreased play activity.
Chronic lead poisoning in children may cause intellectual disability, seizure disorders, aggressive behavior disorders, developmental regression, chronic
abdominal pain, and

Tungsten Essay
In 1781, Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered Tungsten, which is also known as Wolfram. The word Tungsten is used in the United States, but Wolfram is
still used in some European countries. Tungsten comes from the Swedish language which means "heavy stone". Tungsten is a very strong, shiny,
gray–white metal that makes up just a tiny fraction of the earth's crust and is always combined with other elements as compounds. Every tungsten atom
has 74 positively charged protons in the nucleus which means it also has 74 negatively charged electrons revolving around the nucleus. Tungsten

However it combines with other elements to form compounds in minerals. An interesting fact is that wolframite and scheelite are the only two
important sources of the metal. Wolframite contains varying amounts of iron tungstate and manganese tungstate. Another important tungsten mineral is
scheelite, which varies in color from white to green. The leading producers of tungsten are China, with 37,000 tons, Russia, with 3,600 tons and
Austria, with 1,700 tons. Another interesting fact is that more than half of the world's supply of tungsten comes from mines in the Nah Ling
Mountains of Jianxi, Henan and Quangdong provinces of China. The method to extract tungsten ore is generally a compromise between safety and
cost. One way to mine it is using the room–and–pillar method, which is cutting "rooms" in tungsten, and leaving a series of columns called "pillars".
However other mines use the bulk mining method of "slashing out the ore". This involves drilling into the face of the tungsten deposit to carve out
large chunks of the ore. Around 30% of tungsten comes from scrap and waste metal. Tungsten its self is not a major pollutant, but scrap and waste
tungsten may contain other metals that are harmful to the environment. In addition, recycling is a lot cheaper than disposing of the waste

The element I decided to do was lead. Lead was used many years before and it is still used a lot today. Lead is still very useful and is found in many
things that were used a long time ago and things we still use today. Lead is a very poisonous element that can really harm your skin and your body.
Since lead is very toxic, it's not recommended for children. Lead is also the heaviest of the carbon family.
Lead was used by the Romans for water pipes, aqueducts, tank linings, and cooking pots. In the 21st century, lead remains a cornerstone of society.
Ancient scientists used it in cosmetics, paints, pigments, and in lead–rich glazes. The chemical properties in lead is what makes it a thoroughly

Treatments of heavy metal contaminants from effluent discharged by industries are more complex than designing the treatment process. Bacopa
Monnieri is one of the wetland plant used for the removal of heavy metal, lead (Pb) from the aquatic medium. Effluent was collected from the Lead
acid battery waste treatment plant. It is standardized to 5, 10 and 15ppm to observe the uptake by plant. Effluent was categorized as Direct Effluent
(DE), DE+Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and DE+Cow Dung Manure (CDM), where EDTA and CDM were used as a chelating agent to
influence in accumulation rate and degradation rate. Concentration of Pb in soil, plant (root and shoots), and effluent had been done to calculate the
degradation of Pb, Translocation factor (TF) and Bioconcentration factor (BCF). This experiment shows tremendous differences in wetland plant unlike

Abstract
In my biology class we conducted an experiment to determine if there was a direct correlation between the concentration of lead levels in soil and the
effect it has on plant synthesis and plant height. The specimen used in the experiment is a species of plant, Brassica rapa. Seeds of B. rapa were
careful planted within every cell of a cubical that was filled with six different concentrations of lead which was our treatment group and the control was
the cubical with no lead soil in it. Plant height and temperature were recorded with a thermostat and a mm ruler. The results show that lead
concentration does not have a relationship with plant height except in concentration of 100 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg. During this three–week
experiment, the mean of over a hundred students plant heights were recorded and all the student's plants showed similar results meaning lead–nitrate
concentrations in soil does not affect the growth.

What is a heavy element? – A heavy element is an element with an atomic number greater than 92. What is a super heavy element?– Superheavy
elements alters between disparate groups of people. In most cases, superheavy elements denotes to those elements with an atomic number bigger than
or equal to 112. How are new elements discovered? The first website I went to, I found and read that new elements are not quite discovered anymore
but they can be made up, for instance using particle accelerators and nuclear reactions. A new element is made by combining a proton to an established
element. Although when you make a new element it's hard to prove that you have made a new element, since it blights so hastily. Something else that I
found interesting was that there are assorted experimental techniques that have been consumed to make different chemical elements. What are some
properties of these artificial elements? – Isotopes of assorted elements that are conceived unreally in accelerator experiments are known to be

Avaya Case Essay example
Problem Definition It appears that Avaya's most immediate problem is a noticeable operational "gap" between the marketing and sales departments.
Throughout the sales process, the departments are not working together in a cooperative fashion – they're working separately, and sequentially. This
gap not only affects the ways in which the departments interact and communicate, but is also likely affecting sales and demand generation. If there was
a new model put in place for sales and marketing to work together, not only would sales and demand generation improve, but efficiency would
undoubtedly increase. Due to the current operational model in place with these departments, each has their own systems and processes (funnels) ...

It's likely that the initial response to these changes would not be all positive. In an organization like Avaya that has done things a certain way for so
long, employee push–back on change is inevitable. Adding to this would be the fact that compensation among members of the sales team is much more
directly affected by sales performance than members of the marketing team. An effective transition plan would have to be established with a two–way
communications channel providing up–front and easily–understood information to employees about the planned changes. Perhaps creating a "transition
team" comprised of select sales and marketing personnel would allow for a smoother implementation, as the representatives would hold an active role
in fulfilling transition objectives.
Sales promotion As another alternative, I feel that jointly–organized sales promotion would generate short–term sales. Avaya has a very well–designed
organizational structure with their sales and marketing departments that allows them to reach a wide variety of markets. They also seem to have a very
thorough understanding of their target market. This leads me to believe that effective sales promotions could be created to attract new business through
direct e–mail and other easily–targetable channels. Utilizing high–tech channels of promotion would also provide the marketing and sales departments
with a mechanism for tracking the impact that individual campaigns and distributions have on

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Lead?
Lead is a chemical element that is in the carbon group. The symbol is Pb and has an atomic number of 82. Lead can be used for weapons and
cosmetics. However, there are advantages and disadvantages of using this element. A disadvantage is that if you are repeatedly exposed to this toxic
element, it can cause anemia, brain damage and high blood pressure. An advantage is that lead has a low melting point, so it is easy to shape and mold
the bullet.
Bullets were originally either made out of stone or clay balls. However, as firearms advanced and developed, bullets changed very slightly. Bullets
remained round, only changing their diameter.
In 1882, bullets changed from being round to an elongated bullet. Instead of being made out of stone or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because once lead is released into the environment, it corrodes the air, soil and water. Lead is also a main contributor to pollution. Plants, can
absorb the metal dust through their leaves. There are multiple ways that lead can enter the environment, one way is through mining, steel factories,
fertilizers, improper dispose of batteries and metal parts. I was unable to find an advantage of lead in the environment.
Lead is a health hazard for everyone. Lead is not visible to the eye, it has no smell and it has no taste. When lead goes into someone's body, it can
cause harm or damage to wherever it is in the body. Lead can even damage your blood stream. For example, it can damage red blood cells and limit
their ability to carry oxygen to organs and tissue. This can lead to anemia. This will negatively impact your well being.
There is an advantage to lead for the society because it is used to create bullets. Bullets offer protection for societies and smaller groups of people.
A negative is that some people use bullets not for protection but for offensive attacks. For example, there was a lot of controversy in America last
year because they were trying to differentiate when a police officer used his firearm as self defense, or to harm an innocent citizen. So while there are
advantages of the use of lead for the society, there are also disadvantages and negatives of lead.

  • 4. Lead Poisoning: America Will Suffer Essay In this day and age consumers always want more and they want it at the lowest price possible, but are they willing to risk the danger that could derive from it? Hundreds of thousands of toys are imported daily from overseas countries, such as China, into the United States, some toys are inspected for irregularities, but most are not. This may not seem like such a problem but the truth of the matter is that it is one of the larger problems in the nation right now. Children's toys imported from China are found to be contaminated with high levels of lead and infecting American children with lead poisoning. Some people may say that this is an unnecessary argument, that China isn't doing anything harmful, maybe it was just a few faulty toys, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mattel is starting to take a step in the right direction, according to Renae Merle from The Washington Post, "Mattel said it was strengthening its process for preventing the use of lead based paint, it will only permit paint from certified suppliers and require every batch to be tested, company officials said" (Merle 1). 80% of toys in the United States are imported from China, according to Renae Merle, and 65% of those toys are created by Mattel. Although that is a step in the right direction, that still leaves 15% of the toys in the United States at a higher risk of having high traces of lead on them, going undetected. Stores like Toys 'R' Us that sell toys sold by companies other than Mattel, should be required to post the percentage of how much lead is in each toy directly next to or near the toy so that parents can be aware of this problem. If parents are not made aware of this problem, it is going to cause more concerns health wise. Michelle Albert, a stay at home mom of two children states that "I feel our country should be more careful about the things we import" (Albert 1). She fears that her children may have been exposed to these toys and has no way of knowing until it may be too late. If the United States does not start regulating more toys more frequently, then the number of hospital visits in children will see a dramatic increase because of the continued exposure to lead exposed toys. A Stanford University study found that 80 percent of prospects judge a business 's credibility by website design features.[1] Many of the negative judgments that people make involve unfriendly mobile design, lack of self–service options and hard–sell tactics that turn off members who prefer a lighter touch that lets people make their own choices of whom to visit and engage when they 're ready to buy. Conversion rate optimization or CRO involves improving a website's design, functionality and user experiences while eliminating those pesky attributes that kill conversions. Leading B2B Conversion Killers It 's useful for any company to make a list of conversion killers based on general best practices and features unique to the business. Median conversion rates for generic searches are only slightly higher than 2 percent across all websites.[2] B2B websites receive fewer visitors than retail operations, so they 've got to do a better job of converting users into leads by convincing them to sign up for emails or a newsletter, register for faster service, ... Though the company impacted the city in a positive manner, the public opinion viewed Asarco as a "waste of space that can be made into something more attractive to the tourist's eye" (Muench). The first was a Winchester offering, WW296, a ball powder with a good burning rate and characteristics tailored for big revolver cartridges. The shape of the powder granules determines how well they pass through a given powder measure. The ball–shaped powders worked well through most powder measures, eliminating the need to weigh each and every charge, a time consuming step that anyone loading hundreds of rounds of ammunition per week would be glad to give up. Weighing charges could only be eliminated if it was proven that there was no variance from charge to charge, but the prudent loader would still measure one out of each 5 or 10 just to make sure that nothing "moved" out of adjustment... The lead mixture used for making cast pistol bullets is usually an alloy combination of lead, tin and antimony in varying amounts. The most popular recipe was known as the Lyman #2 mix, comprised of 90% lead, 5% tin, and 5% antimony. Pure lead, tin and especially pure antimony, were difficult to find and sometimes expensive. Linotype was a good source of an antimony rich alloy, but type presses (those used to print newspapers) were being displaced by modern printers. The computer age had begun to impact our source of antimony. Initially, there was a surplus. Soon, with no market no more type metal was being produced. Dennis had a stockpile, but I had to turn to alternate sources. The most abundant source of lead in the salvage yards now came in the form of wheel weights. Clip on wheel weights used to balance car tires were made from an alloy that was actually legislated to be consistent. It was held to precise standards and governed by the department of transportation. It made sense when you think about what could happen to a chunk of lead thrown from a spinning wheel because it was too soft to stay put or too brittle and broke off. Wheel weight alloy typically consisted of 97% lead, 2% antimony, and a little less than 1% tin. This was not the ideal mix for making bullets. The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa ) Essay During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of toxic wastes during the manufacturing and processing of products. These hazards were often left abandoned and no one really paid attention to their effect on our environment. In the 1980s Congress established a Superfund Program. It was left for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer thesuperfund program, to find these hazardous sites, investigate and determine the worst ones, and then clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and 1,400 were named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was Picher Oklahoma named in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile area became known as the Tar Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8 September 1983 ("challenge posed to children's health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek Superfund Site as a case–study," n.d.). All of the information was finally out. The hazards were known. It was time for the clean up to begin. Where do you begin when a problem is this large? The Environmental Protection Agency was tasked to take the lead in the clean–up. General radiation safety principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the patient is male, no pregnancy check is needed. To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x–ray beam should be minimized. Gonad shielding should be used on patients if possible, which is particularly important for young patients. In addition, proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be applied according to patient situations to minimize radiation dose (7). Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields should be limited by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as far away from source as possible to increase distance between radiation source and themselves. They should stand behind appropriate radiation shields or, more commonly, wear appropriate protection (7). Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES Abstract: It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous consumer products such as thecosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES). As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration 0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03–0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged between 0.04–1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026–0.091ppm. 1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of consumers on a daily basis. The best KPIs to increase traffic and sales for an organization focus on leads. 1. Lead acquisition Lead tracking begins with a goal. Sales organizations use different mechanisms to acquire leads. Examples include blog sign ups, list subscriptions, websites, webinar signups and ad responses. The first step is to quantify a number of leads. Tracking that monetary and time cost is also necessary to decide if an organization will reach its sales goals. Email allows an opportunity If email follow–up is used, it provides an opportunity for the organization to automate the follow–up process and increase sales without extra work. 4. Sales process tracking Companies that have sales funnels where there is more than one product involved will want to track each step of the funnel. This includes tracking the number of leads that were sent the offer and then the number of leads that made a purchase. Although this number will go down as leads get further into the funnel because the price of the products will get higher, there may be situations where an organization can tweak each level of the funnel to improve sales and conversions. Surveys are an element that an organization may want to add to the CRM as well as tracking the results of those surveys to determine why leads didn't purchase. This data may be used to tweak the sales funnel. The organization

Soil pollution involving the accumulation of excess heavy metals is toxic to humans and other mammalian life.1 The effect on animals can ac–cumulate in the food chains and instigate public health concerns in the future. Normally, the exposure due to food chain transfer is chronic, however, there are rare acute cases where direct ingestion of such pollutants is poisonous.2 Given the importance of the situation, the determination of toxic heavy metals in the environment is essential. The primary source of soil pollution can be at–tributed to the history of industrial/commercial activi–ties in certain areas.4 We have chosen to analyze the soil at Northwestern University to highlight human factors and contributions to this pollution. Given the history of the Northwestern, there are many areas of the campus that differ in properties such as the age of buildings, the proximity to bodies of water, areas of construction, and high traffic. For use in our study, the campus was divided into areas A, B, C, D, E, & F (Figure 1). Since Northwestern has been regularly undergoing construction in the past century, we pre–dicted that the areas with older buildings would have different metal concentrations when compared with areas with more recent architecture. Due to the use of lead–based paint in old construction, we expect that there should be a higher concentration of metals such as lead found near older buildings such as University Hall or Locy Hall in area E in comparison to area F with ... Thus, the following locations have been identified as potential sources responsible for the distribution of cadmium into Cruddy Creek; Atlas Batteries, Metal Plater, and Pacific Coal & Electric power plant due to their relevant histories and proximities to the increased amounts of cadmium. Atlas Batteries has been a part of Cruddy Creek since 1970. Their main objectives were lead–acid batteries recycling and now also recycling of nickel–cadmium rechargeable batteries. They are a potential source of cadmium contamination because of their methodology of disposal of sulfuric acid via an open, unlined pit which allows for chemicals to seep into the sediments at a much faster and easier rate. In addition, Atlas Batteries has a direct effluent discharge into Cruddy Creek that carries contaminants of concern such as cadmium, nickel, lead, and zinc. Biochemical Pathways of Heavy Metal Poisoning Biochemical Pathways of Heavy Metals Poisoning BIO101 (Principles of Biology) 6 July 2012 Abstract The biochemical pathways of heavy metal poisoning are routes by which the metals pass in the body as they impair and destroy normal cellular and organ activity. The most common types of heavy metal poisoning are caused by lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury. They are also the most extensively studied at the moment. Lead poisoning occurs mainly by the inhibitory effect that the metal imposes on enzymes and subsequent distortion of essential biochemical pathways. The metal disrupts calcium metabolism and subsequently causes neurotoxicity. It also inhibits the reduction of glutathionine in a biochemical process meant to produce antioxidants. ... Therefore, lead can interfere with calmodulin found on the surface of synaptic vesicles hence affecting protein phosphorylation and consequently impairing neurological behavior. Normal and functional glutathionine derives its antioxidant properties from the thiol group that occurs in the cystein within it. This group can be readily reduced or oxidized. Lead (like arsenic and mercury) interferes with glutathionine metabolism by binding to its sulfhydryl complex of the key enzyme involved in this biochemical pathway. ... There are many countries today that do not have access to clean water. This necessity we the people of the United States of America take for granted is not a normal occurrence in every country. With this paper we will look at five different countries with the most polluted water in the world. We will see what is being done to help reduce thewater pollution and how the water pollution is effecting the economy is these countries. The first country on the list is China. More specifically Linfen, China. In 2007 Linfen was dubbed by Time Magazine the most polluted city in the world. The air was so dirty from all the coal mining that it would turn the laundry drying on the line black from all of the coal dust. The residents literally choke at night dues to the coal dust. Every resident over 60 dies from lung disease. (Schmitt) It is also estimated that over half of Linfen's well water is considered unsafe to drink. (motherboard) Clean water is a necessity for a thriving economy. Much of the pollution in Linfen is found in the smog that is in the air, however, it is in the water as well. To live in Linfen and know that if you live to 60 you will probably die from lung disease soon after. Although, Linfen is trying to improve their lifestyle withrecycling and trash cleanup they simply will not stop the coal mining business. Which in all fairness is understandable since coal mining is the heartbeat of the economy for Linfen. However, there should be more research into purifying their water and lowering the coal dust, but all in all things are looking up for Linfen. The residents are optimistic that they can reduce the pollution and they can have a thriving economy too. The next place we look at is Haina, Dominican Republic. Haina has a problem with battery recycling and smelting which has resulted in huge concentration of lead being pumped into their water. (science/nature) Lead poisoning is a huge problem. Why India? The reasons why India continues to draw in the waste of developed countries are not difficult to find. High profit margins, owing to poor environmental regulation is a major factor. In developed countries, it is extremely expensive to get rid of such waste. Most lead smelters in the U.S. have been shut down, and those that remain can spend more than $10 million per year on pollution control alone. In India's unregulated backyard smelter industry, there are very high profit margins. Indian traders thus outbid their European counterparts for such wastes in the international markets, paying almost 30 percent more for waste like zinc ash. These include zinc ash and residues, used batteries, brass dross, copper cables possibly coated with PVC, and wastes of toxic metals like lead, chromium, cadmium and thallium. And this quantity is just the veritable tip of the iceberg, it would seem, for these figures do not take into account the import of deadly toxins like asbestos, mercury or recycled plastic resins. • 34. Background Of Kindergarten Education And Children 's... Review of Literature Background of Kindergarten Education and Children 's Psychology Learning is developmental: Children, and their brains, benefit from enriched home and school environments (Connell, 2009) According to the Piaget's research those children having four main stages of mental development. First stage, it is sensory motor intelligence to cover brain in the first and two years of children's life. For this time, children know the world through their perceptions ability, such as they know what water is that can drink or splash. Second stage, children begin to intuitively or symbolically think during their preschool years. For those years, children perform their mental motor from brain thinking to actual operation. For instance, "he can now "in his mind" pour the water back into its original container and verify that its quantity has not changed." (Howard, 1976) Lastly, children can begin to formally operate brain thought during early adolescence. For example, they can write equations of H2O, and complete logical controls. Piaget views this sequence of four stages as both invariant and universal. Given sufficient interaction with a normal environment and sufficient time, every normal child should realize this sequence: it is part of the human blueprint. (Howard, 1976) In Grouping Children for Learning: Implication for Kindergarten Education, the author Louise Cherry Wilkinson showed a figure of Model for Integrating on Classroom Groups to understand relationships ... • 35. Literature Review : Water Pollution CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Water pollution FAO (1992) noted that the adulteration of water supplies from both natural and anthropogenic sources has impacted on the health and economic status of populations. Human activities contribute to pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides into aquatic ecosystems. These anthropogenic activities continuously increase the amounts in the environment. According to Malik et al. (2010), heavy metal pollution is burgeoning at an frightening rate and has become an important worldwide problem Increase in population, urbanization, industrialization and agricultural practices as well as lack of environmental regulations have further aggravated the situation (Gupta et al., 2009). Heavy metals are assimilated or incorporated in water, sediments and aquatic biota evoking pollution in water bodies since they cannot be degraded (Linnik and Zubenko, 2000; Malik et al., 2010). As the metal levels in many aquatic ecosystems increase, they raise the concern of metal bioaccumulation through the food chain and related human health hazards (Wright and Welbourn, 2002; Agah et al., 2009). Despite significant efforts to reduce trace metal loads in effluents, municipal wastewater was still found to convey large amounts into the environment (Buzier et al., (2006); ГњstГјn, 2009; Hope et al., 2012). As a consequence, the heavy metals present in municipal wastewater are still present in the effluents and sludge (Chen et al., 2008; Chanpiwat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Mercury : The Element Mercury Mercury: The element mercury has the chemical symbol Hg; it is a silver colour and is a liquid at room temperature. Mercury has a high density and surface tension and can easily break up into small droplets. Mercury can dissolve some metals resulting in amalgams, metal alloys of mercury. It is not soluble in water or most other liquids, but will dissolve in lipids (fats and oils). With fluctuations in temperature, mercury expands and contracts evenly with these changes and is classed as a non–combustible liquid. (Mercury characteristics) When mercury enters the environment from emissions in the air, water or soil, it oxidises into other compounds of mercury. Both mercury and its compounds have high acute (short–term) and have high chronic (long–term) toxicity on aquatic life. Eating fish contaminated with mercury has caused poisoning in humans; birds and land animals exposed in the same manner could also be subject to the same effects. Mercury and its compounds are highly persistent in water and the environment and will bio accumulate or concentrate in the tissues of fish. These concentrations will be considerably higher than the water from which the fish is taken. Mercury chloride will act as a particle, following wind patterns, and being deposited by rain. Elemental mercury may be a gas in the atmosphere. Emissions of mercury and or mercury compounds can produce elevated, but still low–level concentrations in the atmosphere around the source. Elemental mercury can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Lake Erie Research Paper LEAD LEVELS OF BUFFALO Buffalo is one of the biggest places for poisoning people with lead. Lead has mostly come from paint and air pollution. Air pollution comes from oar and metals processing and planes operated on metal fuel. Water pollution comes from factories on the coast of Lake Erie and the Niagara River. Scientists say that pollution in the lake is creating lead, and then lake water is being mixed into the paint formula causing lead levels to rise. Why it is hard to stop lead poisoning is because there has been 1.8 to 4 billion untreated sewage every year in the Niagara River and 600 million gallons of sewage overflows in the Niagara River. • 39. Tungsten Essay In 1781, Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered Tungsten, which is also known as Wolfram. The word Tungsten is used in the United States, but Wolfram is still used in some European countries. Tungsten comes from the Swedish language which means "heavy stone". Tungsten is a very strong, shiny, gray–white metal that makes up just a tiny fraction of the earth's crust and is always combined with other elements as compounds. Every tungsten atom has 74 positively charged protons in the nucleus which means it also has 74 negatively charged electrons revolving around the nucleus. An interesting fact is that wolframite and scheelite are the only two important sources of the metal. Wolframite contains varying amounts of iron tungstate and manganese tungstate. Another important tungsten mineral is scheelite, which varies in color from white to green. The leading producers of tungsten are China, with 37,000 tons, Russia, with 3,600 tons and Austria, with 1,700 tons. Another interesting fact is that more than half of the world's supply of tungsten comes from mines in the Nah Ling Mountains of Jianxi, Henan and Quangdong provinces of China. The method to extract tungsten ore is generally a compromise between safety and cost. One way to mine it is using the room–and–pillar method, which is cutting "rooms" in tungsten, and leaving a series of columns called "pillars". However other mines use the bulk mining method of "slashing out the ore". This involves drilling into the face of the tungsten deposit to carve out large chunks of the ore. Around 30% of tungsten comes from scrap and waste metal. Tungsten its self is not a major pollutant, but scrap and waste tungsten may contain other metals that are harmful to the environment. In addition, recycling is a lot cheaper than disposing of the waste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lead is still very useful and is found in many things that were used a long time ago and things we still use today. The chemical properties in lead is what makes it a thoroughly modern metal. Lead's chemical symbol comes from the latin word for waterworks. Lead's atomic number is 82. It's atomic weight is 207.2, and lead's atomic mass is 207.2 u + – 0.1 u. It also has a density that is 11.342 grams per cubic centimeter. Leads color can differ based on where it is. BEHAVIOUR OF WETLAND SPECIES, BACOPA MONNIERI IN HEAVY METAL, LEAD (Pb) CONTAMINATED EFFLUENT 1Dineshkumar M, 2Sivalingam A 1Research Scholar, 2Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore – 641 014. kdineshd@gmail.com Abstract Treatments of heavy metal contaminants from effluent discharged by industries are more complex than designing the treatment process. Bacopa Monnieri is one of the wetland plant used for the removal of heavy metal, lead (Pb) from the aquatic medium. Effluent was collected from the Lead acid battery waste treatment plant. It is standardized to 5, 10 and 15ppm to observe the uptake by plant. Effluent was categorized as Direct Effluent (DE), DE+Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and DE+Cow Dung Manure (CDM), where EDTA and CDM were used as a chelating agent to influence in accumulation rate and degradation rate. Concentration of Pb in soil, plant (root and shoots), and effluent had been done to calculate the degradation of Pb, Translocation factor (TF) and Bioconcentration factor (BCF). This experiment shows tremendous differences in wetland plant unlike the researches done in past. Results of the experiment were discussed below. Introduction Increasing modernization in urban and rural areas led to tremendous growth in industrial activities. Untreated and partially treated effluents from industries and hospitals were discharged into the aquatic environment. Due to these activities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Effects Of Lead Nitrate Contamination On The Plant... The effects of Lead–Nitrate contamination on the plant Brassica rapa Ernest J. Tiller III, Corey Biology Department Birmingham–Southern College Date: October 24, 2016 Teacher: Jennifer Kelly Abstract In my biology class we conducted an experiment to determine if there was a direct correlation between the concentration of lead levels in soil and the effect it has on plant synthesis and plant height. The specimen used in the experiment is a species of plant, Brassica rapa. Seeds of B. rapa were careful planted within every cell of a cubical that was filled with six different concentrations of lead which was our treatment group and the control was the cubical with no lead soil in it. Plant height and temperature were recorded with a thermostat and a mm ruler. The results show that lead concentration does not have a relationship with plant height except in concentration of 100 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg. During this three–week experiment, the mean of over a hundred students plant heights were recorded and all the student's plants showed similar results meaning lead–nitrate concentrations in soil does not affect the growth. What is a super heavy element?– Superheavy elements alters between disparate groups of people. In most cases, superheavy elements denotes to those elements with an atomic number bigger than or equal to 112. How are new elements discovered? The first website I went to, I found and read that new elements are not quite discovered anymore but they can be made up, for instance using particle accelerators and nuclear reactions. A new element is made by combining a proton to an established element. Although when you make a new element it's hard to prove that you have made a new element, since it blights so hastily. Something else that I found interesting was that there are assorted experimental techniques that have been consumed to make different chemical elements. What are some properties of these artificial elements? – Isotopes of assorted elements that are conceived unreally in accelerator experiments are known to be precarious and radioactive. After being assembled, they begin to blight, which is them changing into a separate isotope. Throughout the sales process, the departments are not working together in a cooperative fashion – they're working separately, and sequentially. This gap not only affects the ways in which the departments interact and communicate, but is also likely affecting sales and demand generation. If there was a new model put in place for sales and marketing to work together, not only would sales and demand generation improve, but efficiency would undoubtedly increase. Due to the current operational model in place with these departments, each has their own systems and processes (funnels) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's likely that the initial response to these changes would not be all positive. In an organization like Avaya that has done things a certain way for so long, employee push–back on change is inevitable. Adding to this would be the fact that compensation among members of the sales team is much more directly affected by sales performance than members of the marketing team. An effective transition plan would have to be established with a two–way communications channel providing up–front and easily–understood information to employees about the planned changes. Perhaps creating a "transition team" comprised of select sales and marketing personnel would allow for a smoother implementation, as the representatives would hold an active role in fulfilling transition objectives. Sales promotion As another alternative, I feel that jointly–organized sales promotion would generate short–term sales. Avaya has a very well–designed organizational structure with their sales and marketing departments that allows them to reach a wide variety of markets. They also seem to have a very thorough understanding of their target market. This leads me to believe that effective sales promotions could be created to attract new business through direct e–mail and other easily–targetable channels. Utilizing high–tech channels of promotion would also provide the marketing and sales departments with a mechanism for tracking the impact that individual campaigns and distributions have on ... Lead can be used for weapons and cosmetics. However, there are advantages and disadvantages of using this element. A disadvantage is that if you are repeatedly exposed to this toxic element, it can cause anemia, brain damage and high blood pressure. An advantage is that lead has a low melting point, so it is easy to shape and mold the bullet. Bullets were originally either made out of stone or clay balls. I was unable to find an advantage of lead in the environment. Lead is a health hazard for everyone. Lead is not visible to the eye, it has no smell and it has no taste. When lead goes into someone's body, it can cause harm or damage to wherever it is in the body. Lead can even damage your blood stream. For example, it can damage red blood cells and limit their ability to carry oxygen to organs and tissue. This can lead to anemia. This will negatively impact your well being. There is an advantage to lead for the society because it is used to create bullets. Bullets offer protection for societies and smaller groups of people. A negative is that some people use bullets not for protection but for offensive attacks. For example, there was a lot of controversy in America last year because they were trying to differentiate when a police officer used his firearm as self defense, or to harm an innocent citizen.
