Reading is an attempt to absorb the thought of the author and know what the author is conveying (Leedy 1956). Studying is the interpretation of
reading materials. Study habits and skills are particularly important for college students, whose needs include time management, note taking, Internet
skill, the elimination of distractions, and assigning a high priority to study. . Marcus CredГ© and Nathan R. Kuncel (2008) in their research at the
University of Albany said that Study habit, skill, and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous grades as

construct validity and predictive validity of 10 study skill constructs for college students. They found that study skill inventories and constructs are

Why Do We Need A Study?
Many students have pulled an all–nighter, crammed last minute, and drank several cups of coffee in order to make up for all of the procrastination
they have done. Every night when they could study their minds wander off to other things and come up with excuses not to study. I'm one of them
and every time I hear or think the word "study" I cringe. I don't think I am the only one. Truth is studying does not have to be such a daunting task. No
one needs to pull an all–nighter or cram all of the information in one night. Ever heard of the expression, "it's not about quantity, but quality?" Same
goes for studying. It's not about how long you study or how often. You can study for five hours and get nothing out of it if you just sit there and read a
textbook. Studying requires well–developed skills in order for it to be effective. In order for students to be able to study effectively they need to
properly prepare to study, have good note taking skills, and develop a technique in order to retain all of the information. The first step in order to
be able to have a good study session is to be properly prepared to study. You should have all of the materials that you need ready to go before you
start, "Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks, study guides and any other relevant material," this will prevent

Having a creative nature is one of the main components corporations are looking for in employees. The ability to think outside of the box and be
innovative with solutions is at the forefront of product development and growing businesses. All students are capable of being ingenious but it needs to

At no point or time is note taking a bad idea because you never know when you might need to know that information again. Also it's useful because

I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded

When I took the learning styles inventory survey I actually found out that my learning styles were visual, applied, verbal, social and pragmatic

I didn't like it when they showed it to us back then because I believe it was actually effective because it seemed different than what I normally did.
But for me personally I find this method very time consuming. Yet, I actually find some benefits for it because it causes you to use your brain a little
more trying to connect these ideas together and figure out why it connects with each other. Not only that but I find it an excellent method for

be a solution to procrastination. Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing something. Instead of falling into the stage of punctuated

Study Habits And Techniques Were Non Existence For Me
Study habits and techniques were non–existence for me in high school. I never did anything but look over notes or previous work. The only time I
remembered studying was around the time we took our standardized testing. Looking back, I can't recall ever learning any study skills or strategies.
It may have been that school for me was easy and I had no reason to study. Or I was not challenged academically to have to study. Nonetheless, soon I
would find out the difficulties of navigating college courses without effective study skills and habits. I fell behind in college early because of my

However, this is where most students as myself struggle with learning new material, because during review and rehearsals effective study skills come
into play.
During the review process new material, new insight and relationships are still connecting with old memories (Schenck, 2011, p.279). Rehearsal is
the stage before the assessment, in which connections and memories are being strengthened and the ability to retrieve from the memory is almost
instinctive. Effective and Ineffective study skills and strategies play an important role in getting students from processing new material to the
ability to retrieve from the memory instantly. However, some strategies that we thought were effective are in in fact not effective at all. For
instance, cramming is a popular form of studying. Students usually lock themselves away a few days leading up to a big test and try to fill their
memory with information. This is something I use to do and my thinking was it would be fresh and easier to remember closer I got to the test. Yet,
cramming simply does not work because our brains do not have the ability to store enough of the information that would be on a typical exam, in our
short term memories. In fact when we cram we usually aren't providing our bodies with the proper sleep or brain food that would help us succeed.
