Informative Essay On Squirrels
Are you sick of hunting elk, moose, white tail, turkeys, and all other variety of animals and want a new challenge? Try squirrel hunting. Don't laugh:
these little buggers are really smart and they can be really hard to hit. Follow these self–guided squirrel hunting tips to get the most of your small–game
bonanza.
Types of Squirrels You'll Hunt
Squirrel species come in all shapes and sizes, meaning you'll have quite a variety of little critters to stalk. Each looks slightly different and has minor
variations in behavior patterns. For example, some are extremely vocal while others mostly keep their opinions to themselves.
Three of the most common squirrel species include:
Gray Squirrels – the most common type of squirrel you're likely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That's okay: you can wait them out. Just search near the middle trunk of a tree and try to spot a small, hollowed out hole: chances are, there's a squirrel
inside.
You can also find common food sources, such as berry bushes, nut trees, and pine needles, camp near them in a natural blind, and wait for some
squirrels to show up. Don't worry: it shouldn't take too long for them to get hungry.
If you find a stream or a creek with hardwoods along its side, you're in luck: that's prime squirrel hunting ground. Find a spot, hide out, and wait: they
should be coming along any time. Once you see one, try this simple trick: stir the leaves near your feet to startle them into a frozen position. That will
make them a much easier target.
The world of squirrel hunting is a lot more challenging, diverse, and exciting than many hunters realize. And if you're interested in finding suitable
hunting land for your next squirrel hunting exhibition, contact a hunting land search group, like LandToHunt: they can find great hunting land near
you that is filled with

NAME: MITCH B. MENDEZ DATE: NOV. 26, 2015 CASE STUDY: ALDI 1. How does ALDI'S strategy lead to competitive advantage? How does
the company achieve this strategy? * A competitive advantage is one that distinguishes a firm or a business from the competitors in the minds of the
customers. It also refers to the state or condition that make a business more successful than the businesses it is competing with, or a particular thing
that makes it more successful such as having a higher sales through offering low or affordable goods and services. Most of the businesses operate in
competitive markets: businesses have to take on and see of rivals or competitors.ALDI, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, because ALDI stores are typically small they chooses inexpensive or affordable locations usually outside town or on side streets that can
minimize the overheads costs that they can spend . The size doesn't even matter as long as they can conduct their operations and provide goods and
services to its valued customers. Third, they display their products on pallet rather than on shelves. They also have cross trained employees to
conduct the operations within the entity, to operate, check and also replace the pallets. Lowering the price of their inputs is a way to decrease the
cost. Through the methods that they use to follow they are able to achieve their low cost strategy that serves as their strength among their
competitors. 2. Does ALDI'S low cost strategy imply that the company offers low quality? Why is quality important, regardless of competitive
strategy? * No. ALDI'S low cost strategy does not imply that the company offers low quality of product but rather a high quality despite the use of low
cost in producing the said product for they acquire good quality products to the vetted suppliers. Even though they minimizes each of the costs that they
use in developing and producing a product they still ensure that they produce it with high quality to offer good quality product to its valued customers.
Quality of the product is important to ALDI which guarantees the products are sold with a no questions asked money back guarantee. The proof why

California Ground Squirrels
Invasive species have been around competing against the native species for a long time. Invasive species disrupts the balance of the ecosystem in
many ways, and changes the living habitat forever. In some cases, the introduction to an invasive species could be beneficial but can also be harmful.
Given the similarities of resources , we can hypothesize there might be evidence that the Eastern Gray squirrel and the California Ground Squirrel do
compete. The Eastern Gray Squirrel or Sciurus carolinensis is an invasive species for the Western United States. Native of Eastern North America, it
was brought to the west through people releasing them in a variety of places such as parks (Hoefler 1990). Even though it was brought away from it's

However, from an ongoing research, it has shown that to protect themselves the California Ground Squirrel will send an alarming call known as the
tail–flag to alert others. Before entering an area, California Ground Squirrel sends an vocal alarm to communicate to their predators and warn them of
their presence. In multiple recordings of rattlesnake attacks, it has been seen that in the majority of the time, squirrels do get away when they tail–flag.
Scientists also examined the tail signal of the squirrels when they feel threatened, and found that squirrel have the ability to increase their tail
temperature as one of their protection tools. California Ground Squirrels also developed a rare ability to neutralize rattlesnakes in order to protect

Justice Waite Professor Cherry Eng 111 Analysis Final Draft Can squirrels really plot? Have you ever been driving down the road and have
something bad happen to you that you have to slam on the breaks? If you have, then maybe you can relate to the following commercial. Even if
you have never had this happen to you, you still might be able to relate to it. The basic idea of the commercial is that no matter what happens in
life, that you should always be prepared for what to do next. GEICO is not just car insurance, but they can be your friend. First of all I would like to

If you are not prepared though, something bad could very well happen to you. Like going off the side of the road (in this guys case) and crashing
your car. If you don't have car insurance in this case, then you are going to be screwed. Or take for example something else like, you are on your
way home for work after a long night and your house is on fire. What do you do in this case? You can 't run inside of this flaming building and
expect to get all of your things back. That is why you need to always be prepared and ready in case anything like this would ever happen, like having
home owners insurance. Not everything though in life is always about insurance. It is just better to prepared for the unexpected than be screwed when
it happens. In conclusion, car insurance is not just another thing that you need to buy just because it is the law. Car insurance can be helpful in the
most unexpected situation that will ever happen. GEICO tries to tell us this by basically using a metaphor. That they can be your friend when you
need them the most. Just like a real life friend, but they use squirrels and a station wagon to get this point across. I hope by the time that you read this
last sentence that you will understand this commercial better now. The way that I do, maybe you might even laugh a little bit like I

The Golden Age Of Sports Essay

May 20, 2015
The Golden Age of Sports The 1920s was a great decade for the economy because of the popularity in sports. The number of fans increased, which
created the need for new stadiums and raised the salary for sports stars. Sports in the 1920s went through many changes in the time period known as
the "Roaring Twenties." New heroes, new teams, and new leagues were emerging in sports. Some sports were just starting, some were broadening
their horizons, while others were just becoming more popular. The media helped to make sports become more popular in the 1920s. Movie houses
showed videos of sports contests, which helped create stars. Newspapers and magazines gave the sports reporter a new authority as the media brought
information about athletes and athletics to large audiences. Radio broadcasts of college football and professional baseball began early in the 1920s. The
media supplied news but also manufactured it and, in the process, created and satisfied an eager audience. The decade was the "Golden Age of
Sports". The 1920s were a starting foundation for football. The most popular league, the NFL, was formed in the 1920s. On August 20, 1920, the
owner of four Ohio league teams met to form a new professional league. On September 17, the team met again, changing its name to APFA (American
Professional Football Association). By 1923, the name was changed to the National Football League (NFL). The 20's brought in new styles of plays,

The Effects Of Urbanization On The Human Population
The human population is continuing to increase, along with the rate of urbanization. Increasing urbanization is ultimately unavoidable, which is
potentially a major threat to the biodiversity of the planet. Animals either must learn to adapt to a new environment, or they risk going extinct.
Squirrels are a good example of a species trying to adapt to new environments and can be used to see the effects urbanization has on animals. Using a
computer simulation model, squirrels living in rural environments with natural predators can be compared to squirrels living in urban environments,
with humans as predators. Simulation results show that although natural predators of squirrels are very low in urban environments, the population is still
negatively affected by their interactions with humans and human construction. This simulation provides insight on the effects of urbanization on the
survival of squirrels
Introduction
As the global human population continues to increase, the amount of urbanization increases with it. According to Jokimaki et al. (2017), global urban
land cover will increase by about 30–fold in less than 20 years. With such a change in the human population and amount of urbanization, it leaves the
question of what will happen to the amount of biodiversity and well–being of all the wildlife on the planet. An urban environment is considered one
that has a high density of a human population and buildings, and a high concentration of food, waste, water, energy, and pollution (McCleery and
Parker 2011). The habitats of animals now located in urban environments, squirrels in particular, are being completely changed, if not destroyed, which
leaves them to either go extinct, or adapt to the ever–changing scenery that is tailored to the human world. Research has shown that squirrels are
adapting to the urbanized world, however, wildlife populations in urban settings often demonstrate different movements, physiology, habitat selection,
and behaviors than those that are found in rural settings (McCleery and Parker 2011). Their movement patterns are likely to be modified in response to
changes in environmental conditions that are brought about by urbanization (Reher et al. 2016). Fey et al. (2016) observed

The Art Of Racing In The Rain Rhetorical Analysis
The Art of Racing in the Tears
The Art of Racing in the Rain is a novel written in the point of view of an intelligent dog named Enzo. The unique point of view of this novel is what
makes it so entertaining and easy to read. Specific scenes that show how Enzo transcends scenes include the zebra scene. Another is when Enzo kills
the squirrel. The last is Enzo's dying scene. In the Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein manipulates his style by writing through the unusual point of
view of a dog named Enzo, which transcends an ordinary scene into an extraordinary scene, by using specific syntax, diction, and the unique point of
view of Enzo.
As Enzo was left to starve and hallucinate he encountered the evil zebra.
"The now living–zebra said nothing to me at all, but when it saw me it began to dance, a twisting, jerky ballet which, culminated with the zebra
repeatedly thrusting its gelded groin into the face of an innocent Barbie doll. That made me quite angry, and I growled at the molester zebra, but it
simply smiled and continue its assault, this time picking on a stuffed frog, which it mounted from behind and rode bareback it's hoof in the air like a
bronco rider, yelling out
"Yee–haw! Yee–haw!""(53).
In this passage Enzo witnesses a horrific sight, but if told by through a different point of view, the scene would seem very different. In reality Enzo
was seeing illusions but what was really happening was Enzo tearing up a little girl's stuffed animal. Because this scene was told through the point of
view of Enzo the scene really enticed the reader and pulled in their attention. Stein used word choice such as "molester zebra" and "gelded groin" to
simulate a nightmarish scene. Stein also writes his sentences in a way that makes the audience read in a rapid yet fearful way by using syntax.
Examples of this are the excessive use of commas and short/easy pronounceable words. "The now living–zebra said nothing to me at all....into the face
of an innocent Barbie doll". Because of Enzo's genuine fear and anxiety, this scene is transformed into an exciting, fearful scene because it is told
through the point of view of Enzo.
Another scene where the perspective Enzo provides changes a scene is when he kills the

Objective In this experiment, the pKa*, dissociation constant, of 2–naphthol in an excited state was determined by measuring its fluorescence spectrum.
Procedure In this experiment, a solution of 2–naphthol in HCl and a solution of 2–naphthol in NaOH are analyzed by measuring their UV–visible
(obtained from the Cary 50 spectrophotometer) and fluorescence spectrum (obtained from the PTI fluorometer).
For detailed procedure, refer to the lab manual (J. F. WГіjcik and T. S. Ahmadi, Experimental PhysicalChemistry, 2015; p.3–5.). Some modifications of
the procedure are the concentration of 2–naphthol in both solutions is changed from 0.0001 M to 0.00005 M, and the acid/base concentration is changed
from 0.100 M to 0.0100 M.
Data 2–naphthol has a molecular weight of 144.17 g/mol, with a density of 1.22 g/cm3. The melting point of 2–naphthol is in the range of 121 to 123
В°C. The stock solution of 2–naphthol has a concentration of 1.9844E–3 M. The 2–naphthol solution in HCl and NaOH was both prepared in 100–mL
volumetric flasks using a 10–mL transfer pipette for 2–naphthol and another 10–mL transfer pipette for either the acid or the base. Then the solutions
were diluted ten–fold in new 100–mL volumetric flask by taking 10 mL of the original solution. The excitation wavelengths of the 2–naphthol solution
in HCl and in NaOH are 316 nm and 345 nm, respectively.
Results Before any calculations, the absorbance spectra of the HCl and NaOH solutions are baseline–corrected. To

The Eastern Chipmunk Essay
The Eastern Chipmunk
The Eastern chipmunk is a small rodent of the Sciuridae family. This chipmunk is closely related to the red and grey fox, the flying squirrel, and the
woodchuck. Its Taxonomic name is Tamias Striatus. The word Tamias, Means collector or keeper and Striatus refers to its bold stripes and coloring.
The body of the average Eastern Chipmunk is about 8 to 10 inches long, the weigh about 2 ½ to 4 ounces. The ears are rounded with ears that stick
straight up. It has short legs, the hind legs each have five claws, the front legs have four, and a long thumb like extension. They also have a furry flat tail.
Chipmunks have short, dense body fur. It is the same color for males and females. This is a reddish–brown with ... Show more content on

A chipmunk can transport large amounts of food in cheek pouches. A chipmunk uses its forepaws to manipulate food for eating or transporting.
Eating and foraging among other thing are done during the day. Chipmunks are most active in early morning and late afternoon. In hot weather they
spend much time in their burrows.
A chipmunk's burrow my be simple or elaborate. The entrance is about two inches wide, it is usually hidden. Burrows sink straight down for several
inches, then settle and lengthen about 30 feet, occasionally branching into derivative tunnels with separate entries.
Chipmunks excavate their burrows, thrusting or carrying unearthed dirt away from the entrance. Somewhere in the system is a foot–square nest
chamber. this compartment is lined with crumbled dry leaves and grass. A chipmunk stashes nuts, seeds, corn, and other hoarded foods under the leaf
bed or in a storage chamber nearby.
Chipmunks do not enter winter with a thick layer of body fat as do other hibernating animals. Instead they begin gathering and storing food in autumn
and live off of that until late October or early November. Length of wintering behavior varies.
Chipmunks close their den entrances when they go underground. They sleep much of the winter, waking sporadically to eat. On tranquil, clear days
they may leave the den for a short time. Some surface to breed in late February or early March, but snow and cold may force

Eastern Grey Squirrel Research Paper
The Eastern grey squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are small mammals that are often seen around parks and trees in the New York City area. Both
males and females look alike in color and size. On many occasions they involve in behaviors may not be easily understood by the onlookers. They
often engage in behaviors such as deception, a behavior that involve a squirrel to cache its food from conspecifics by pretending to hide its food in an
area but instead carrying the food in its mouth and hiding it elsewhere (Steele, M. A., Halkin, S. L., Smallwood, P. D., McKenna, T. J., Mitsopoulos,
K., & Beam, M. 2008) and also in cache hoarding such a behavior involves the storing of food for later retrieval (Hopewell, L. J., & Leaver, L. A.

Forging behaviors can be described as a behavior where animals have their heads down in search of food and not too aware of what is happening
in their immediate environment, where as a vigilant behavior is where an animal is on its hind legs with its heads up or sometimes in a frozen
position and cannot forage (H.R. Pulliam, G.H. Pyke, T. Caraco, 1982). Because squirrels are small mammals they do tend to be more vigilant of
their surroundings. Foraging and vigilant behaviors are important because of the fact that these animals are smaller and are likely to be attacked by
predators. When they are in a foraging behavior it can be difficult to be aware of other mammals that are lurking around, thus they also involve
themselves in vigilant behaviors to determine if there is a threat or not. Smaller mammals tend to display higher vigilance than those of larger sizes due
to their increased risk of predation (StevenL.Lima, Thomas J. Valone, Thomas Caraco,

A Bleak Day By Werner Herzog
It's a gloomy day, the sky is a shade of gray, but no rain is falling. The air feels dry, sticky and hot. The young girl is taking a journey to a jungle, a
place she normally doesn't observe, a place where humans and animals inhabit. She trudges her way to the centermost oak tree near Mason Hall.
It's the perfect spot: dry ground, a slight breeze, and shade from heat. On her way, she passes the boy from her psychology class, she neglects to

I was having such a wonderful day, it was just starting to chill. Winter would come soon, so I was looking for acorns under my favorite oak tree, it
was over by where my life long friends live and it has the best acorns. Most squirrels think they taste the same, but in reality, these brown treats taste
best when they are from old trees. New trees have hard acorns and it is difficult to taste anything but wood. And believe me, I know what that tastes
like, it 's disgusting. My favorite oak tree is at least 900 years old, the acorns that fall from it are soft and creamy, it has a beautiful smoky brown color
to it. It tastes like nothing else I've ever had before, and I love it.
While I was stocking up for the winter, my life long friends stopped by, Sunny, Christopher, and Jackson. I thought about asking them for help
before I did, they looked at me. I thought, knowing each other for so long that they would help without me asking so I moved out of their way. What
I did not know is that they were going to crush all of my precious acorns. The took their gigantic feet and trample all over my food supply. There
weren 't that many acorns there for me to pick there because I didn 't collect these tasty treats when they first fell. and they ruined almost в…љ of what
was left. I waited till they had left to go back and see exactly all of the damage that they had done. They smashed most of what I was gathering, the

Spotted Owl, Flying Squirrel, Truffle Symbiosis
Throughout the world there are many animals, plants, fungi and numerous other living organisms that are influenced by the overall condition or
adaptations of other organisms. Whether it is a symbiotic relationship or a predator/prey relationship there are many ways in which animals and other
living organisms operate and live; both dependent on others and their own adaptations. The point is that there are many relationships that provide a
basis and means for the survival of a variety of different species around the world. This relationship is very apparent in the scientific findings regarding

Unlike many other rodents the flying squirrel does not hibernate. Instead they group together during the winter and cold month's to maintain warmth.
Northern flying squirrels usually communicate with a soft low chirp but also cluck just like other squirrels when distressed. These squirrels also use
scent and touch to communicate with one another; utilizing their excellent senses of hearing, smell, vision, and touch to correspond with the signals
they emanate. "A major food source for the squirrels are mycorrhizal fungi (truffles) of many different species, though they also eat lichens,
mushrooms, all mast–crop nuts, tree sap, insects, carrion, bird eggs and nestlings, buds and flowers. The squirrels are special in that they can find
truffles by olfaction, which is the use of smell. They also seem to use clues such as the presence of wood debris, indicating a decaying log, and
spatial memory of locations where truffles were found in the past. The northern flying squirrel is also known to stash food for when food supplies
are lower such as in the winter. These caches can be in cavities in trees, as well as in the squirrels' nest, or even within the ground. Lichens and seeds
are the commonly stored items" (9). Yet in this relationship the most important functions of this squirrel are to provide food for the owls, and in

The Importance Of Wildlife Conservation
History has shown that humans and wildlife always come in conflict for territory and resources, and a majority of the time humans emerge victorious.
Humans have drastically and permanently altered the environment to suit their needs, usually creating negative consequences for the native fauna. But,
as of late, we as a society are coming together, recognizing these effects and working towards restoring ecological balance. Even so, places on UC
Davis, a school that emphasizes and teaches the importance of ecological balance and sustainability, like the Quad are limited in supporting wildlife
due to fragmentation by buildings and heavy traffic. However, at locations like the Arboretum and Putah Creek Reserve, the environmental needs are
put above humans' and as such, the native fauna are returning. Wildlife will thrive and remain a part of UC Davis' future if administration, faculty, and
students designate and maintain areas such as Putah Creek to be fit for the ecosystem and its species. When non–native settlers moved in, wildlife
began to disappear and field trip locations' one, five, and seven reflect this change. In the early 1800s, Spanish and Mexican settlers used the land
surrounding Putah Creek for their cattle to graze (Moyle 2). In doing so, this altered the environment, introducing new species and reducing native
populations. Even now, there is livestock like sheep and cattle such as location seven with little observable native. Then, American settlers reshaped

badger. The best example would be hunting in prairie dog fields. The coyote takes the prairie dogs on the ground while scaring other dogs into their
holes where the badger is. When the badger hunts underground catching it's prey it also scares dogs up to the ground where the coyote is. So
basically the badger and coyote work together to corner up the prairie dogs and eat until they get their fill.

Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
While I find it rather creative to imagine a skunk and a coyote to conspire together to murder prairie dogs and rabbits, and although I feel I am
doing a disservice to hundreds of years of Navaho storytellers, I am going to attempt to creatively edit parts of the story "Coyote, Skunk, and Prairie
Dogs" as a written works, and retool it so that it makes more sense as a modern children's fairy tale. Not that children would be interested in a story
about killing and eating prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the Navaho trickster tale as possible.
Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"The hated one is washed out."
There were rabbits and other animals and even ground squirrels. Those animals that are food for Ma'ii were gathered together; now they were dancing at
that meeting.
First Golizhii said, "It's true, it's true! Let's have one of you fast runners run over there to find out."
Then Jackrabbit ran there and ran back saying, "It's true!"
Then Cottontail ran there and, "It's true!" he said, running back.
Then Prairie Dog ran, and, "It's true!" he said running back.
At that time there was a big gathering around Ma'ii's body. They were dancing. "The hated one is dead," they were saying. The club is beside him;
they were hitting him in the ribs.
Then they continued their celebrating, and more and more animal people came.
Then that evil Golizhii remembered Ma'ii's plan. "When you all are dancing, while you are looking up, while you are saying, you say, 'Dance in that
manner,' you tell them while you're in charge there, shilna'ash," he had said.
All the small animals were dancing.
Then: "Waay up there something is moving by overhead," Golizhii pointed out.
When they were all looking up, Golizhii sprayed upward so that his urine fell in their eyes.
The animals were rubbing his urine from their eyes. "Oh, so 'the one who is hated is dead,' is he?" Ma'ii said jumping up.
He grabbed the clubs from under him. He used the clubs on them. They were all clubbed to death.
Then: "Let us cook them by burying them in

Descriptive Essay On Squirrels
There are more than 200 species of squirrel that live all over the world, making the mammal so relatable. Furthermore, squirrels are familiar to almost
everyone this universality makes them, in my opinion, so likable. They're a creature most see, but can't be bothered to notice or appreciate. Squirrels
are members of the Sciuridae family, consisting of small and medium–sized rodents. This family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks,
flying squirrels and prairie dogs. I'm not particularly fond of rodents, however, I have recently grown quite the affinity for squirrels.
The windows in my room look out onto the bare and ugly roof of my school. A landscape of metal, scattered piles of decomposing leaves, and large
unpleasant looking vents that make a low humming noise–adding to their unpleasantness. It's not a pretty sight. But, every now and then I get a
welcomed surprise from a grey squirrel, sifting through the wind–made clumps of leaves in search of sustenance. Its curiosity and careful intent are
happy sights to observe. I sit and watch, through my the pans of my window, as it scampers to–and–fro, frantically; jumping at any sound, movement,
or gust of wind, while I brush through my untamed hair.
I wonder how it might be to be so small; to have to constantly worry about safety, warmth, and food. This would be a short life, a life of filled with
fear and worry. But also a life of wonder, adventure, and excitement: hurrying up tall trees, leaping from branch

Connecting Frame Of Electrical Equipment
INTRODUCTION
Grounding or earthing explain the concept of connecting frame of electrical equipment (non–current carrying part) or some electrical part of the system
(e.g. neutral point in a star of the system, one conductor of the secondary of a transformer) with the respect to the earth. In electrical engineering, ground
or earth is the reference point in an electric circuit from which voltage is measured, a common path for electric current, or direct physical connection to
the earth. Bear in mind that this connection to earth may be through a conductor or some other circuit element which may be; resistors, circuit breakers
depending upon the situation.
In electricity supply system, an earthing (grounding) system defines the electrical potential of the conductors relative to that of the earth's conductive
surface. The choice of earthing system has implications for the safety and electromagnetic compatibility of the power supply.
Electrical circuit may be connected to ground (earth) for several reasons:
In main powered equipment, exposed metal part are connected to ground to prevent user contact with dangerous voltage if electrical insulation fails.
Connection to ground limits the build–up static electricity when handling flammable product or electrostatic–sensitive device.

Taking a Look at Squirrels
Squirrels are everywhere, see figure 1 for an example of the grey squirrels in our area. They skitter through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and
chew through wires. Squirrels are so common the average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a significant role in the
evolution of seed defenses in pine trees. The evolution of these seed defenses is frequently attributed to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994).
The ever–present unnoticed squirrel is actually uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have developed traits to defend against
them. Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine tree dispersal. Their study argues that while Clark's nutcracker may play an important
role in seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most important seed predator. The study showed that the pine trees adaptations made to defend
against squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the apex seed predator (Benkman 1994
1). This paper will outline some of the research that has been put together to map out the coevolution of squirrels and pine trees. Since this paper will
focus primarily on squirrels, it is important to have some background knowledge about these omnipresent critters. Squirrels are mammals included in
the order Rodentia, and there are over 1,600 species of Rodentia. They compose almost a third of all mammal species, and one of the seven

The Dangerous Life of a Squirrel in Autumn Essay
The sky is the color of cold stones as I cautiously make my way down the trunk of dying oak. The few remaining leaves of the tree rustle as a light
autumn morning breeze passes through them. One of them is blown free, making a soft snapping sound as it breaks away from its anchored
brothers and begins to fall to the ground below. It twists and turns as it goes and I watch it in momentary curiosity. I have seen this often before. It
is still mostly green, only slightly browning at the edges. It makes a show of falling, as though it knows it has an audience. It spins and dances,
carried across an unseen stage by the breeze. The breeze fades and dies and the leaf follows shooting down quickly towards the earth like a predatory

catch the scent of pecans, acorns, and other forms of nut within the area. They are my usual food source and are very scarce now that it is so close
to winter. I must act quickly or some rival animal will snatch them away. I take off as fast as light in the direction of a particularly strong scent. My
heart pounds in my chest so fast that it's almost not beating at all. I can smell and hear my rivals as they race towards the scent as well. I am quite
certain there will be a fight on arrival. I prepare myself to win this race and the fight that may follow. Yet, when I cross the span of the front yard of an
old abandoned house I am attacked. I cry out in fear and try to break free as sharp fangs sink into the delicate flesh of my bushy tail. I scratch my paws
over the ground, ripping out small bits of dying grass and pebbles. I hear a guttural rumbling and glance back in horror as my eyes meet those of my
captor. My captor is a pampered gray house cat with the blue of the summer sky and the mischief of a devil in its piercing gaze. It is well groomed

Essay on Lab #1 LifeScience 1 Ground Squirrels
LS 1 LAB DEMO 1
13 January 2014
Introduction: The broader context of this lab was aimed at observing animals and documenting specific animal behavior patterns. Specifically, we
were trying to determine if squirrels applied snakeskin randomly to certain areas of their body or if there was a specific technique to it in relation to
escaping their predators. After an animal has determined that a predator is nearby, it must then take action to avoid encountering this threat.
Encounters are most easily avoided by preventing predators from detecting prey in the first instance (Rosier & Langklide, 2011), for squirrels this
type of behavior is known as SSA, "snake scent application". In this lab we wanted to study two different species of ... Show more content on

In order to interpret our results we had to use the chi–squared test. This test compares the observed behaviors to the expected behavior if it was
randomly distributed, also considered to be the null hypothesis where SSA is applied randomly on the squirrel's body. From using the chi–squared
equation (shown to the right), I calculated the expected frequency for each species, 12.6 per area for the S. beecheyi and 10 per area for the S.
Variegatus. The chi–squared values for both the S. beecheyi and S. variegatus were 70.13 and 65, respectively. For this lab experiment there were 5
independent pieces of data, therefore 4 degrees of freedom. Given that piece of information we were able to look up the critical values at a
confidence of 0.05 and 0.01, which were 9.488 and 13.277, respectively. The chi–squared value for both species

Competition within package delivery companies is hard to get into. There are a few dominant companies within this kind of business other than

The competition is really just narrowed down between FedEx and UPS both of who started innovative ideas at an early stage in this market to help

how these two companies became so successful. FedEx and UPS offer discount freight shipping at prices at which other companies can't compete or

Eastern Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger).
The eastern fox squirrel (Sciurus niger) is the largest tree squirrel [1]. The animal is 10 to 15 inches and possesses three diverse color patterns. Firstly,
in the southern segment of its range, this creature is dark with a white tip on its tail and a white band of color on its face. Secondly, in the northeastern
part of its body, it has a gray appearance above with yellowish undersides. Thirdly, in the western section of its body, it is dark above and has a rust
color underneath. This creature is a solitary animal, even though it shares a feeding territory with other squirrels. The eastern fox squirrel commonly
occurs in the central and the eastern United States west to the Texas Colorado, and Dakotas [1]. It does not inhabit New England, most of eastern and

They first manipulate it using their paws, hold it loosely in their limbs, and rotate it in their mouth, and later move the head (head flick) in a rapid
rotation as they hold the food in the mouth. There is a high correlation between head flicking (rotation) with the subsequent eating, rather than caching
food. These unusual traits probably assess the likelihood of spoilage, weight, or other features of food quality.
After examining a food item, fox squirrels either cache or eat it, frequently moving to a locality away from the source of food. These squirrels begin
the process of caching with digging. They then tap the nut with their front teeth to fix it more firmly in the ground. On the first day of observation,
the fox squirrel ran away quickly once it saw me and took refuge in a tree. This conduct shows that these animals take advantage of their
maneuverability and agility in the trees to flee their predators. They also produce alarm calls that probably alert other squirrels when they are

Connecting any generator in parallel into the local final circuit with another source however has several implications in terms of electric shock

the users mentioned above should be informed of an operational generator (Small Scale Embedded Generator SSEG) through labels, so they can take

only used in old installation or rural parts of the country where overhead cable supplies are used. The associated earth fault loops with the TT
System of Earthing is that the exposed conductive metalwork causes a fault current to flow through it to earth and return to the source via a general
mass of earth (Figure 1). It is anticipated that the level of fault current will cause the RCD to trip or to blow the fuse in the time indicated in the ETCI

allow a continual earth fault to exist which may well be lethal or causes fire. The TN–C–S system of earthing has the main earth terminal connected to
the supply neutral and the earth electrode. When the load fault to earth occurs it turn into a fault to the incoming neutral and the fault route resistance
is a lot lower than the TT system. A large current will flow which causes the RCD to trip within the specified time (Figure 2). f Question 2 It is

Natural Squirrel Research Paper
Abstract
The Sciurus carolinensis is better known as the eastern gray squirrel that prefers to live in the temperate deciduous forest. This squirrel has a color
variation and are medium in size; their appearance may be similar to other tree squirrels. The life cycle is: baby, child, adolescent, adult, depending on
how long they survive in the wild can be up to 8–12 years. The Sciuridae respiratory system is much like other mammals or humans, just smaller scale.
These rodents are geographically adaptable to their surroundings, as they have been around for millions of years. They communicate with their tails and
even though born toothless, their teeth grow constantly. The Sciurus carolinensis is an interestingsquirrel that is a vital ecological regenerator of the
natural woodlands. Species Profile on the Sciurus carolinensis: The Eastern Gray Squirrel

Eventually, the squirrels in your area should get the message that all your plants taste spicy, and should start to avoid them, which should allow you to

Hair Repellent Bags
Squirrels consider humans, along with cats and dogs, some of their natural predictors. One way to spread the smell of squirrel's natural predictors is
through hair. Hair tends to hold onto the scent of the animal that it came from, which is why hair repellent bags help scare squirrels away.
You will need to collect hair from either when you get your own hair cut, or from when your pets get their hair cut. If you don't have pets, you can
see if a pet grooming business in the area will give you all their clippings one day. You want enough hair to make multiple repellent bags, so try to
collect a few grocery bags full of hair.
Take the hair and place it inside of a square of cheesecloth. Then, take the edges of the cheesecloth and gather them together. Wrap a ribbon around the
gathered edges and create a knot. Then, make a loop so you can hang up the hair repellent bags.

The species on St. Kitts also have a speed and height advantage over the Nevis population, so the bottleneck effect is more likely to have wiped out their
population since they have more favorable traits than their counterpart. If the island underwent a catastrophe, it is likely that the rodents were separated
physically. The second factor, allopatricspeciation, occurred between the two rodents' habitat. This is when a population is divided by a geographic
barrier which prevents interbreeding between the two populations. These species are found on two different islands, so the water in between separates
the two populations from interacting with one another. Due to this, both species could have developed changes in courtship rituals, developed new
traits, and undergone changes to adapt to their environment. The final factor, behavioral isolation, occurs when two species don't recognize one
another as mating partners due to incorrect courtship rituals. Since we tried to repopulate the St. Kitts by introducing the population from Nevis onto
the island and no
success was found, behavioral isolation is very likely to have been the reason why. Our data supports this as well since the St. Kitts rodent spends 12.6

Arctic Ground Squirrel Study
The Arctic Ground Squirrel (AGS), is the largest of the North American Ground Squirrel species and has many adaptations enabling it to survive its
North American tundra habitat. Many mammals can survive the cold with thick, layered fur and by hibernating during the winter months. The AGS is
no exception. However, no other hibernating mammal has a physiological adaptation during hibernation that is quite like the AGS (Dave et al., 2012).
While hibernation itself is a biological feat, the AGS has an impressive brain adaptation – synaptogenesis. They have the ability to sever synapses in the
brain for hibernation and then reconnect them when they wake and warm up seven months later, completely healthy (von de Ohe et al., 2006). When

During hibernation the AGS metabolism is too slow and their brains too cold and inactive to keep functioning properly. By shutting down the brain,
the AGS conserves vital energy to keep itself alive (von der Ohe et al., 2006). Not only that, this adaptation provides protection against cerebral
ischemia and brain damage (Drew et al., 2001) throughout the extremes of hibernation (Schwartz, et al., 2013). During hibernation, the blood flow
within the AGS decreases by 90% but is maintained to some degree to the brain (Schwartz et al., 2013). Because of this, the brain is kept marginally
warmer, thus preventing any stroke, cardiac arrest or trauma that would otherwise occur (Ross et al., 2009). Therefore, the AGS saves as much energy

How does the company achieve this strategy? * A competitive advantage is one that distinguishes a firm or a business from the competitors in the minds of the customers. It also refers to the state or condition that make a business more successful than the businesses it is competing with, or a particular thing that makes it more successful such as having a higher sales through offering low or affordable goods and services. • 4. California Ground Squirrels Invasive species have been around competing against the native species for a long time. Invasive species disrupts the balance of the ecosystem in many ways, and changes the living habitat forever. In some cases, the introduction to an invasive species could be beneficial but can also be harmful. Given the similarities of resources , we can hypothesize there might be evidence that the Eastern Gray squirrel and the California Ground Squirrel do compete. The Eastern Gray Squirrel or Sciurus carolinensis is an invasive species for the Western United States. Native of Eastern North America, it was brought to the west through people releasing them in a variety of places such as parks (Hoefler 1990). Even though it was brought away from it's natural ... • 5. Analysis Paper Justice Waite Professor Cherry Eng 111 Analysis Final Draft Can squirrels really plot? Have you ever been driving down the road and have something bad happen to you that you have to slam on the breaks? If you have, then maybe you can relate to the following commercial. Even if you have never had this happen to you, you still might be able to relate to it. The basic idea of the commercial is that no matter what happens in life, that you should always be prepared for what to do next. GEICO is not just car insurance, but they can be your friend. First of all I would like to start of this essay by telling you what my commercial is about. The commercial that I chose to write my paper on was a GEICO commercial. There are lots of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are not prepared though, something bad could very well happen to you. Like going off the side of the road (in this guys case) and crashing your car. If you don't have car insurance in this case, then you are going to be screwed. Or take for example something else like, you are on your way home for work after a long night and your house is on fire. What do you do in this case? You can 't run inside of this flaming building and expect to get all of your things back. That is why you need to always be prepared and ready in case anything like this would ever happen, like having home owners insurance. Not everything though in life is always about insurance. It is just better to prepared for the unexpected than be screwed when it happens. In conclusion, car insurance is not just another thing that you need to buy just because it is the law. Car insurance can be helpful in the most unexpected situation that will ever happen. GEICO tries to tell us this by basically using a metaphor. That they can be your friend when you need them the most. Just like a real life friend, but they use squirrels and a station wagon to get this point across. I hope by the time that you read this last sentence that you will understand this commercial better now. The way that I do, maybe you might even laugh a little bit like I ... • 6. The Golden Age Of Sports Essay Destinee Holliday Ms. Biltz May 20, 2015 The Golden Age of Sports The 1920s was a great decade for the economy because of the popularity in sports. The number of fans increased, which created the need for new stadiums and raised the salary for sports stars. Sports in the 1920s went through many changes in the time period known as the "Roaring Twenties." New heroes, new teams, and new leagues were emerging in sports. Some sports were just starting, some were broadening their horizons, while others were just becoming more popular. The media helped to make sports become more popular in the 1920s. Movie houses showed videos of sports contests, which helped create stars. Newspapers and magazines gave the sports reporter a new authority as the media brought information about athletes and athletics to large audiences. Radio broadcasts of college football and professional baseball began early in the 1920s. The media supplied news but also manufactured it and, in the process, created and satisfied an eager audience. The decade was the "Golden Age of Sports". The 1920s were a starting foundation for football. The most popular league, the NFL, was formed in the 1920s. On August 20, 1920, the owner of four Ohio league teams met to form a new professional league. On September 17, the team met again, changing its name to APFA (American Professional Football Association). By 1923, the name was changed to the National Football League (NFL). • 7. The Effects Of Urbanization On The Human Population The human population is continuing to increase, along with the rate of urbanization. Increasing urbanization is ultimately unavoidable, which is potentially a major threat to the biodiversity of the planet. Animals either must learn to adapt to a new environment, or they risk going extinct. Squirrels are a good example of a species trying to adapt to new environments and can be used to see the effects urbanization has on animals. Using a computer simulation model, squirrels living in rural environments with natural predators can be compared to squirrels living in urban environments, with humans as predators. Simulation results show that although natural predators of squirrels are very low in urban environments, the population is still negatively affected by their interactions with humans and human construction. This simulation provides insight on the effects of urbanization on the survival of squirrels Introduction As the global human population continues to increase, the amount of urbanization increases with it. According to Jokimaki et al. (2017), global urban land cover will increase by about 30–fold in less than 20 years. With such a change in the human population and amount of urbanization, it leaves the question of what will happen to the amount of biodiversity and well–being of all the wildlife on the planet. An urban environment is considered one that has a high density of a human population and buildings, and a high concentration of food, waste, water, energy, and pollution (McCleery and Parker 2011). The habitats of animals now located in urban environments, squirrels in particular, are being completely changed, if not destroyed, which leaves them to either go extinct, or adapt to the ever–changing scenery that is tailored to the human world. Research has shown that squirrels are adapting to the urbanized world, however, wildlife populations in urban settings often demonstrate different movements, physiology, habitat selection, and behaviors than those that are found in rural settings (McCleery and Parker 2011). Their movement patterns are likely to be modified in response to changes in environmental conditions that are brought about by urbanization (Reher et al. 2016). Fey et al. (2016) observed ... When ground squirrels begin their active season when environmental conditions are still harsh (Buck and Barnes 1999). Although conditions are harsh, male and female ground squirrels still undergo reproduction and produce offspring. Male and female ground squirrels differ in the timing of seasonally recurring life cycle events (Buck and Barnes 1999; Sheriff et al. 2011). Male ground squirrels end heterothermy earlier than females and remain sequestered in their hibernacula to undergo spermatogenesis while they consume a food cache. • 9. The Art Of Racing In The Rain Rhetorical Analysis The Art of Racing in the Tears The Art of Racing in the Rain is a novel written in the point of view of an intelligent dog named Enzo. The unique point of view of this novel is what makes it so entertaining and easy to read. Specific scenes that show how Enzo transcends scenes include the zebra scene. Another is when Enzo kills the squirrel. The last is Enzo's dying scene. In the Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein manipulates his style by writing through the unusual point of view of a dog named Enzo, which transcends an ordinary scene into an extraordinary scene, by using specific syntax, diction, and the unique point of view of Enzo. As Enzo was left to starve and hallucinate he encountered the evil zebra. "The now living–zebra said nothing to me at all, but when it saw me it began to dance, a twisting, jerky ballet which, culminated with the zebra repeatedly thrusting its gelded groin into the face of an innocent Barbie doll. That made me quite angry, and I growled at the molester zebra, but it simply smiled and continue its assault, this time picking on a stuffed frog, which it mounted from behind and rode bareback it's hoof in the air like a bronco rider, yelling out "Yee–haw! Yee–haw!""(53). In this passage Enzo witnesses a horrific sight, but if told by through a different point of view, the scene would seem very different. In reality Enzo was seeing illusions but what was really happening was Enzo tearing up a little girl's stuffed animal. Because this scene was told through the point of view of Enzo the scene really enticed the reader and pulled in their attention. Stein used word choice such as "molester zebra" and "gelded groin" to simulate a nightmarish scene. Stein also writes his sentences in a way that makes the audience read in a rapid yet fearful way by using syntax. Examples of this are the excessive use of commas and short/easy pronounceable words. "The now living–zebra said nothing to me at all....into the face of an innocent Barbie doll". Because of Enzo's genuine fear and anxiety, this scene is transformed into an exciting, fearful scene because it is told through the point of view of Enzo. • 10. Calorimetry Lab Objective In this experiment, the pKa*, dissociation constant, of 2–naphthol in an excited state was determined by measuring its fluorescence spectrum. Procedure In this experiment, a solution of 2–naphthol in HCl and a solution of 2–naphthol in NaOH are analyzed by measuring their UV–visible (obtained from the Cary 50 spectrophotometer) and fluorescence spectrum (obtained from the PTI fluorometer). For detailed procedure, refer to the lab manual (J. F. WГіjcik and T. S. Ahmadi, Experimental PhysicalChemistry, 2015; p.3–5.). Some modifications of the procedure are the concentration of 2–naphthol in both solutions is changed from 0.0001 M to 0.00005 M, and the acid/base concentration is changed from 0.100 M to 0.0100 M. Data 2–naphthol has a molecular weight of 144.17 g/mol, with a density of 1.22 g/cm3. The melting point of 2–naphthol is in the range of 121 to 123 В°C. The stock solution of 2–naphthol has a concentration of 1.9844E–3 M. The 2–naphthol solution in HCl and NaOH was both prepared in 100–mL volumetric flasks using a 10–mL transfer pipette for 2–naphthol and another 10–mL transfer pipette for either the acid or the base. Then the solutions were diluted ten–fold in new 100–mL volumetric flask by taking 10 mL of the original solution. The excitation wavelengths of the 2–naphthol solution in HCl and in NaOH are 316 nm and 345 nm, respectively. Results Before any calculations, the absorbance spectra of the HCl and NaOH solutions are baseline–corrected. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chipmunks are most active in early morning and late afternoon. In hot weather they spend much time in their burrows. A chipmunk's burrow my be simple or elaborate. The entrance is about two inches wide, it is usually hidden. Burrows sink straight down for several inches, then settle and lengthen about 30 feet, occasionally branching into derivative tunnels with separate entries. Chipmunks excavate their burrows, thrusting or carrying unearthed dirt away from the entrance. Somewhere in the system is a foot–square nest chamber. this compartment is lined with crumbled dry leaves and grass. A chipmunk stashes nuts, seeds, corn, and other hoarded foods under the leaf bed or in a storage chamber nearby. Chipmunks do not enter winter with a thick layer of body fat as do other hibernating animals. Instead they begin gathering and storing food in autumn and live off of that until late October or early November. Length of wintering behavior varies. Chipmunks close their den entrances when they go underground. They sleep much of the winter, waking sporadically to eat. On tranquil, clear days they may leave the den for a short time. Both males and females look alike in color and size. On many occasions they involve in behaviors may not be easily understood by the onlookers. They often engage in behaviors such as deception, a behavior that involve a squirrel to cache its food from conspecifics by pretending to hide its food in an area but instead carrying the food in its mouth and hiding it elsewhere (Steele, M. A., Halkin, S. L., Smallwood, P. D., McKenna, T. J., Mitsopoulos, K., & Beam, M. 2008) and also in cache hoarding such a behavior involves the storing of food for later retrieval (Hopewell, L. Forging behaviors can be described as a behavior where animals have their heads down in search of food and not too aware of what is happening in their immediate environment, where as a vigilant behavior is where an animal is on its hind legs with its heads up or sometimes in a frozen position and cannot forage (H.R. Pulliam, G.H. Pyke, T. Caraco, 1982). Because squirrels are small mammals they do tend to be more vigilant of their surroundings. Foraging and vigilant behaviors are important because of the fact that these animals are smaller and are likely to be attacked by predators. When they are in a foraging behavior it can be difficult to be aware of other mammals that are lurking around, thus they also involve themselves in vigilant behaviors to determine if there is a threat or not. Smaller mammals tend to display higher vigilance than those of larger sizes due to their increased risk of predation (StevenL.Lima, Thomas J. Valone, Thomas Caraco, ... The young girl is taking a journey to a jungle, a place she normally doesn't observe, a place where humans and animals inhabit. She trudges her way to the centermost oak tree near Mason Hall. It's the perfect spot: dry ground, a slight breeze, and shade from heat. On her way, she passes the boy from her psychology class, she neglects to give him a smile. The Diag seems unfriendly today, but she sits down anyways. She pulls out her shiny silver laptop from her overflowing backpack. She young girl dives her way into the reading, she starts to think about where she is, what is going on around her, and the journey that she is on. Suddenly, a bushy red squirrel approaches the young girl. She's puzzled as to why the squirrel is advancing towards her. So, she quickly gets up to escape the bushy animal's presence. As the girl moves from the tree the Diag starts to appear differently and the girl begins to notice specific details she hasn't before. First, think about human beings. Second, think about animals. Winter would come soon, so I was looking for acorns under my favorite oak tree, it was over by where my life long friends live and it has the best acorns. Most squirrels think they taste the same, but in reality, these brown treats taste best when they are from old trees. New trees have hard acorns and it is difficult to taste anything but wood. And believe me, I know what that tastes like, it 's disgusting. My favorite oak tree is at least 900 years old, the acorns that fall from it are soft and creamy, it has a beautiful smoky brown color to it. It tastes like nothing else I've ever had before, and I love it. While I was stocking up for the winter, my life long friends stopped by, Sunny, Christopher, and Jackson. I thought about asking them for help before I did, they looked at me. I thought, knowing each other for so long that they would help without me asking so I moved out of their way. What I did not know is that they were going to crush all of my precious acorns. The took their gigantic feet and trample all over my food supply. There weren 't that many acorns there for me to pick there because I didn 't collect these tasty treats when they first fell. and they ruined almost в…љ of what was left. Humans have drastically and permanently altered the environment to suit their needs, usually creating negative consequences for the native fauna. But, as of late, we as a society are coming together, recognizing these effects and working towards restoring ecological balance. Even so, places on UC Davis, a school that emphasizes and teaches the importance of ecological balance and sustainability, like the Quad are limited in supporting wildlife due to fragmentation by buildings and heavy traffic. However, at locations like the Arboretum and Putah Creek Reserve, the environmental needs are put above humans' and as such, the native fauna are returning. Wildlife will thrive and remain a part of UC Davis' future if administration, faculty, and students designate and maintain areas such as Putah Creek to be fit for the ecosystem and its species. When non–native settlers moved in, wildlife began to disappear and field trip locations' one, five, and seven reflect this change. In the early 1800s, Spanish and Mexican settlers used the land surrounding Putah Creek for their cattle to graze (Moyle 2). Squirrels are members of the Sciuridae family, consisting of small and medium–sized rodents. This family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, flying squirrels and prairie dogs. I'm not particularly fond of rodents, however, I have recently grown quite the affinity for squirrels. The windows in my room look out onto the bare and ugly roof of my school. Connecting Frame Of Electrical Equipment INTRODUCTION Grounding or earthing explain the concept of connecting frame of electrical equipment (non–current carrying part) or some electrical part of the system (e.g. neutral point in a star of the system, one conductor of the secondary of a transformer) with the respect to the earth. In electrical engineering, ground or earth is the reference point in an electric circuit from which voltage is measured, a common path for electric current, or direct physical connection to the earth. Bear in mind that this connection to earth may be through a conductor or some other circuit element which may be; resistors, circuit breakers depending upon the situation. In electricity supply system, an earthing (grounding) system defines the electrical potential of the conductors relative to that of the earth's conductive surface. The choice of earthing system has implications for the safety and electromagnetic compatibility of the power supply. Electrical circuit may be connected to ground (earth) for several reasons: In main powered equipment, exposed metal part are connected to ground to prevent user contact with dangerous voltage if electrical insulation fails. Connection to ground limits the build–up static electricity when handling flammable product or electrostatic–sensitive device. • 29. Taking a Look at Squirrels Squirrels are everywhere, see figure 1 for an example of the grey squirrels in our area. They skitter through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and chew through wires. Squirrels are so common the average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a significant role in the evolution of seed defenses in pine trees. The evolution of these seed defenses is frequently attributed to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994). The ever–present unnoticed squirrel is actually uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have developed traits to defend against them. Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine tree dispersal. Their study argues that while Clark's nutcracker may play an important role in seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most important seed predator. The study showed that the pine trees adaptations made to defend against squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the apex seed predator (Benkman 1994 1). This paper will outline some of the research that has been put together to map out the coevolution of squirrels and pine trees. Since this paper will focus primarily on squirrels, it is important to have some background knowledge about these omnipresent critters. After an animal has determined that a predator is nearby, it must then take action to avoid encountering this threat. Encounters are most easily avoided by preventing predators from detecting prey in the first instance (Rosier & Langklide, 2011), for squirrels this type of behavior is known as SSA, "snake scent application". Competition within package delivery companies is hard to get into. There are a few dominant companies within this kind of business other than FedEx, which include DHL and UPS. These three companies are the real players while smaller shipping companies don't stand a chance. FedEx market structure is an oligopoly, which is, "A state of limited competition, in which a market is shared by a small number of producers or sellers." The competition is really just narrowed down between FedEx and UPS both of who started innovative ideas at an early stage in this market to help better the revenue of their respective companies. Coming up with new deals of pricing strategies through the air or on the ground is a huge part on how these two companies became so successful. FedEx and UPS offer discount freight shipping at prices at which other companies can't compete or afford to do in order to maintain steady profits. Through the use of airplanes FedEx does around 80 percent of shipping this way while UPS does four times as less shipping by plane at 20 percent. FedEx has control in the market of air shipping, but UPS is considered to be more dominant in ground transportation. • 35. Eastern Fox Squirrel Research Paper Mingming Liu Zoology 140 Oct, 25.2015 Observation Eastern Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger). The eastern fox squirrel (Sciurus niger) is the largest tree squirrel [1]. The animal is 10 to 15 inches and possesses three diverse color patterns. Firstly, in the southern segment of its range, this creature is dark with a white tip on its tail and a white band of color on its face. Secondly, in the northeastern part of its body, it has a gray appearance above with yellowish undersides. Thirdly, in the western section of its body, it is dark above and has a rust color underneath. This creature is a solitary animal, even though it shares a feeding territory with other squirrels. The eastern fox squirrel commonly occurs in the central and the eastern United States west to the Texas Colorado, and Dakotas [1]. It does not inhabit New England, most of eastern and northern Pennsylvania, western New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They first manipulate it using their paws, hold it loosely in their limbs, and rotate it in their mouth, and later move the head (head flick) in a rapid rotation as they hold the food in the mouth. There is a high correlation between head flicking (rotation) with the subsequent eating, rather than caching food. These unusual traits probably assess the likelihood of spoilage, weight, or other features of food quality. After examining a food item, fox squirrels either cache or eat it, frequently moving to a locality away from the source of food. These squirrels begin the process of caching with digging. They then tap the nut with their front teeth to fix it more firmly in the ground. On the first day of observation, the fox squirrel ran away quickly once it saw me and took refuge in a tree. This conduct shows that these animals take advantage of their maneuverability and agility in the trees to flee their predators. They also produce alarm calls that probably alert other squirrels when they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using Photovoltaic Pv Or Wind Turbine Connecting any generator in parallel into the local final circuit with another source however has several implications in terms of electric shock protection. The most important are the safety to the service's staff, public and the users of the generator. In order to evade the risk of electric shock, the users mentioned above should be informed of an operational generator (Small Scale Embedded Generator SSEG) through labels, so they can take their precautions. The main source supply and SSEG must be isolated prior to any electrical work installation/connection. The SSEG should not have its own earth if connected parallel to another source (British Standard, 2008). The recommended parallel connection with LV distribution systems for a type... The TT System of Earthing is not suitable where a TN–C–S system is available it's only used in old installation or rural parts of the country where overhead cable supplies are used. The associated earth fault loops with the TT System of Earthing is that the exposed conductive metalwork causes a fault current to flow through it to earth and return to the source via a general mass of earth (Figure 1). It is anticipated that the level of fault current will cause the RCD to trip or to blow the fuse in the time indicated in the ETCI rules. At 230 Volts its 5 seconds for fixed equipment, 0.4 seconds for portable equipment, socket outlets and 0.4 seconds for fixed equipment in bathrooms. The main disadvantage of the TT system connection of protecting against indirect contact is that the earth fault path resistance could easily allow a continual earth fault to exist which may well be lethal or causes fire. The TN–C–S system of earthing has the main earth terminal connected to the supply neutral and the earth electrode. When the load fault to earth occurs it turn into a fault to the incoming neutral and the fault route resistance is a lot lower than the TT system. This research paper will discuss what kinds of tools they used for growing crops, hunting big animals like the woolly mammoth and the giant ground sloth and what they used them for besides a source of food. In 13,000 bc the first communities in the Americas were established and the first group of people that established tribes were the Paleo–Indians. One thing they would use them for is build their huts and tents out of the mammoths massive bones to make the structure of the tent and would have most likely used the skin and fur as the roofs. The fur would have also been used to make clothing too. Other bones would have been used to make tools for digging or weapons for hunting (Wikipedia, Woolly Mammoth, n.d.). This squirrel has a color variation and are medium in size; their appearance may be similar to other tree squirrels. The life cycle is: baby, child, adolescent, adult, depending on how long they survive in the wild can be up to 8–12 years. The Sciuridae respiratory system is much like other mammals or humans, just smaller scale. These rodents are geographically adaptable to their surroundings, as they have been around for millions of years. They communicate with their tails and even though born toothless, their teeth grow constantly. Purchase a spray bottle from your local dollar store for the repellent. It is best to purchase a new spray bottle that you know is not contaminated with any harmful chemicals. Eventually, the squirrels in your area should get the message that all your plants taste spicy, and should start to avoid them, which should allow you to cut back on spraying them so often. Hair Repellent Bags Squirrels consider humans, along with cats and dogs, some of their natural predictors. One way to spread the smell of squirrel's natural predictors is through hair. Hair tends to hold onto the scent of the animal that it came from, which is why hair repellent bags help scare squirrels away. You will need to collect hair from either when you get your own hair cut, or from when your pets get their hair cut. If you don't have pets, you can see if a pet grooming business in the area will give you all their clippings one day. You want enough hair to make multiple repellent bags, so try to collect a few grocery bags full of hair. Take the hair and place it inside of a square of cheesecloth. Then, take the edges of the cheesecloth and gather them together. Wrap a ribbon around the gathered edges and create a knot. Then, make a loop so you can hang up the hair repellent bags. Hang the bags up around the fence posts surrounding your garden. You can also put them on the ground near the plants that the squirrels like to

The species on St. Kitts also have a speed and height advantage over the Nevis population, so the bottleneck effect is more likely to have wiped out their population since they have more favorable traits than their counterpart. If the island underwent a catastrophe, it is likely that the rodents were separated physically. The second factor, allopatricspeciation, occurred between the two rodents' habitat. This is when a population is divided by a geographic barrier which prevents interbreeding between the two populations. These species are found on two different islands, so the water in between separates the two populations from interacting with one another. Due to this, both species could have developed changes in courtship rituals, developed new traits, and undergone changes to adapt to their environment. The final factor, behavioral isolation, occurs when two species don't recognize one another as mating partners due to incorrect courtship rituals. Since we tried to repopulate the St. Kitts by introducing the population from Nevis onto the island and no success was found, behavioral isolation is very likely to have been the reason why. Our data supports this as well since the St. Kitts rodent spends 12.6 seconds during courtship display while the Nevis rodent spends 21.3 seconds, almost

  • 47. Arctic Ground Squirrel Study The Arctic Ground Squirrel (AGS), is the largest of the North American Ground Squirrel species and has many adaptations enabling it to survive its North American tundra habitat. Many mammals can survive the cold with thick, layered fur and by hibernating during the winter months. The AGS is no exception. However, no other hibernating mammal has a physiological adaptation during hibernation that is quite like the AGS (Dave et al., 2012). While hibernation itself is a biological feat, the AGS has an impressive brain adaptation – synaptogenesis. They have the ability to sever synapses in the brain for hibernation and then reconnect them when they wake and warm up seven months later, completely healthy (von de Ohe et al., 2006). When the AGS is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During hibernation the AGS metabolism is too slow and their brains too cold and inactive to keep functioning properly. By shutting down the brain, the AGS conserves vital energy to keep itself alive (von der Ohe et al., 2006). Not only that, this adaptation provides protection against cerebral ischemia and brain damage (Drew et al., 2001) throughout the extremes of hibernation (Schwartz, et al., 2013). During hibernation, the blood flow within the AGS decreases by 90% but is maintained to some degree to the brain (Schwartz et al., 2013). Because of this, the brain is kept marginally warmer, thus preventing any stroke, cardiac arrest or trauma that would otherwise occur (Ross et al., 2009). Therefore, the AGS saves as much energy as possible during hibernation yet also manages to conserve the minimal crucial neural connections while avoiding cerebral ischemic damage (Drew et al., ...
