Walt Disney Company And Its International Theme Parks
Before discussing the cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company (TWDC) at their
international theme parks, a quick overview of the company and its international theme parks will be
given. The Walt Disney Company is an entertainment conglomerate with business divisions in
movies, television, radio, theater, publishing, and theme parks. Since the focus of this paper is
international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme parks will be discussed. Walt
Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his daughters to a local park and
watched them as they rode the merry–go–round (Disney, 2009). Disney wanted a place where
children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together (Disney, ... Show more

Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) was the Walt Disney Company's first attempt at planning and developing
an international theme park. In the 1970's after Walt Disney's death, the Walt Disney Company was
not doing well financially when the Oriental Land Company (OLC) approached the company about
opening a theme park in Tokyo. The Oriental Land Company, according to Raz (1999), author of
Riding the Black Ship: Japan and Tokyo Disneyland, is a partnership between two large firms in
Japan, the Mitsui Real Estate Development and Keisei Electric Railway (p.4). The Walt Disney
Company was hesitant to open a new theme park in its current financial state, but the OLC offered
them a deal that was hard to resist. The Oriental Land Company would own and operate the Tokyo
Disneyland while the Walt Disney Company would receive "10 percent of admissions fees and 5
percent of the revenues from food and souvenir sales" (Raz, 1999, p. 27). The Walt Disney
Company also received licensing fees up to 20 million dollars for their characters, attractions, and
more, as well as control over the design of the park and control of park operations (Raz, 1999, p. 27;
Eisner & Schwartz, 1998, p.263). Although the deal seemed alluring at the time, the Walt Disney
Company would soon come to regret the deal they made with the Oriental Land Company.
Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15th, 1983 and is described as "a carbon copy of its American
counterparts"

Two Differences Of Disneyland And Walt Disney World
Although Disneyland and Walt Disney World are Walt Disney's ideas being portrayed, the two parks
have quite a few differences along with the vast amount of similarities. Disneyland cut the
ceremonial ribbon in 1955 and is located in Anaheim, California. It included features such as
Sleeping Beauty Castle, eighteen attractions, one resort hotel, and a monorail system. On the other
hand, Walt Disney World, located in Orlando, Florida, opened its doors in 1971. It featured
Cinderella Castle, fifteen attractions, and two resort hotels when it initially opened. Some
similarities between the two are that both places allow you to participate in the Disney College
Program, both are Walt Disney's dreams coming to life, both have some of the same themes and
rides in the main parks, and both have pin trading. For example, Disney World is comprised of four
parks, whereas Disneyland is only made up of two. In contrast, the two parks have different amounts
and varieties of parks, hotels, restaurants and things to see or do. When Disneyland opened, it rested
on an 85–acre property and only had about eighteen attractions. However, some of the rides featured
on opening day are the most iconic ones still running in both locations. On the first day they opened
the doors, thousands of people began rushing into the parks to see Walt Disney's dreams become a
reality. Upon walking in, guests were overwhelmed with all the magic come to life. Sleeping Beauty

Googie: American Retro-Futurism Of The 1960's
Googie architecture design was named after a coffee shop, Googie in Las Angeles by John
Lautner's. Googie happened after WWII and was a definable style the culture to a liking to. It was
American retro–futurism of the 1950's and 1960's, this is when America had a lot of money. The
style continued for about 25 years. Googie architecture was meant to catch peoples eye as they
drove by. Having neon, glass atomic imagery and upswept roofs. The design gets its inspiration
from the space age. Alan Hess an architect and historian says. Figure 1– House and Home Magazine
Feb 1952 pg.86 "Googie was an unpretentious aesthetic meant to appeal to the average, middle–
class American:" One of the key things about Googie architecture was that it wasn't custom houses
for wealthy people – it was for coffee shops, gas stations, car washes, banks... the average buildings
of everyday life that people of that period used and lived in. And it brought that spirit of the modern
age to their daily lives." (Novak, Matt) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Googie is also seen in cartoons like The Jetsons, amusements parks like Tomorrowland at
Disneyland, advertisements, and magazines. Googie was not only seen in southern California but
also seen in Texas, Michigan, New Jersey, Seattle, and Florida. (Novak, Matt) At the Las Angeles
airport, you can see Theme Building built in 1961 by architects William Pereira and Charles
Luckman, the intended design, was that it was going to be the main ticketing area for the airport,

The Mega Conglomerate, Disney, Walt Disney
History
The mega conglomerate, Disney, began in 1923 with two men and one cartoon, Alice In
Wonderland. From 1988 to present day Disney Pictures has released some of the most successful
films in Hollywood. Disney's most iconic and memorable titles include, The Lion King, The Little
Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast. Disney has pushed the boundaries of the film industry
since its beginning with the production of the first full length animation film, Snow White and The
Seven Dwarfs, as well as the release of their first live action film, Treasure Island. After the death of
Roy and Walt Disney, the company only continued to grow. Robert Iger was named chief executive

Opening at number 1, the weekend of March 13th 2015, the movie earned an opening weekend
gross of $67,877,361 domestically. Including international gross the film made over $70 million
opening weekend and made their $95 million budget in the second week. In total, Cinderella has
made $438,036,467 worldwide. With a large part of the target audience being female children, the
cast, including, Lily James and Richard Madden, was fairly unknown to them. The seven minute
Frozen Fever short at the beginning of the film, based of the extremely popular animation Frozen,
may have been a drawing factor for crowds to see Cinderella. Although Cinderella had one of the
biggest debuts of the year, its numbers fell short of what was expected by Disney. The lower figures
means the new film fell behind Disney's last live–action remake, Maleficent.

by Tina Fey. The director of the film, Mark Linfield, spent over 2 and a half years filming and
following the animals for the movie. The movie was released on April 17th. The opening weekend

Walt Disney 's Influence On The Entertainment Industry
Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a whole
new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he pushed on
and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney's way such as
unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating, working hard,
and persevering to accomplish his dream. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in
Chicago, Illinois. His father, Elias, was a carpenter when Walt was born. Eventually, Elias and his
wife, Flora, saved up enough money to start a home building company together. Walter had four
siblings: Roy, Herbert, Raymond, and Ruth (Russell 9). Because Ruth was younger than Walt, Walt
waited until the age of seven to start school so that he could start at the same time as Ruth. Before he
went to school, his mother, Flora, taught him how to read (Russell 10). Walt grew up on the Disney
family farm and worked hard on the farm. He worked at the neighbor's farm– raising corn, wheat,
barley, cows, pigs, and chickens (Giltin 18). Later, Elias grew sick, and the Disney's had to sell the
farm. They moved to Kansas City (Russell 11). Throughout Walter's schooling, he loved to be on
stage– directing, producing, and being on stage (Russell 11). Many things inspired Walt Disney's
creativity: moving, roaming, playing in the farmyard, fishing, doodling in class, and editing the
school newspaper are just a few

The Heroes From Each Narrative
Both of the heroes from each narrative face a certain goal to accomplish yet struggle in life at first in
their own personal ways. For instance, in Tomorrowland Casey Newton, playing the role as the main
character in the story and also playing the hero figure faces the challenge of reaching another
dimension called Tomorrowland and also faces living with her father who is struggling with the fact
that he might lose his job. And in the film Meet the Robinsons Lewis the main character and the
films hero as well struggles to find a family that will love and care for him deeply. He also ponders
the reason why his family had abandoned him. Each hero from both narratives struggle in life in
their own personal ways. As stated in the narrative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have no future. No one wants me. Mildred– That 's not true, Lewis! Lewis– My own mother didn 't

Meet the Robinsons. Dir. Stephen J. Anderson. Perf. Daniel Hansen, Wesley Singerman, and Angela

life to find a family and has no hope that he will ever get adopted. It is clear that both heroes share
the similarity of showing struggle in life and foreshadow the idea of going on a mission.
Though both Lewis and Cassey face hardships in life they are determined to resolve their problems
by taking on a mission. In Meet the Robinsons Lewis gets the idea that if his mother did not want
him as an infant than she would surely want him now as he has matured. As stated from the film

Dystopian And Other Science Fiction Genres
Dystopian and other science fiction genres literature often critique society in meaningful ways that
give the novels greater depth than might be expected of books written for younger audiences.
Recently, "dystopian novels set in some dark, post–nuclear fallout future have dominated the young
adult–better known as YA–bestseller lists" (Donston–Miller). The line between age groups in some
of these novels also blur as adults latch on the increasingly complex themes and characters in
modern science fiction for young adults. Adult may become just as interested in the struggles of
Katniss Everdeen as any teenager might. When those lines blur it can be harder for authors and
publishers to draw lines of what should and shouldn't be included in young adult literature. They
may expect to be writing to a much wider audience and may find it allowable to insert darker themes
and endings to make a point. As this continues, doors seemed to have been opened for young adult
literature to become darker over time. Just as the movie Tomorrowland points out, dystopian media
has been on the rise and people are thriving off of it. The trend might also be increasing the
acceptance of darkness in media for youth in this way.
The problems presented in dystopian literature are also things that are becoming more and more
relatable to people of all ages while the world experiences new dangers daily. According to some
young adult authors such as Todd Mitchell, darker science fiction themes may be

General Definitions. Before Going Into The Background Of
General Definitions
Before going into the background of the Walt Disney Company and its theme parks, it is necessary
to define some terms that are used throughout the paper. These terms are defined as the researcher
understands them as a former cast member of the Walt Disney Company. The first term that needs to
be defined is "guest". Instead of calling people who visit their theme parks customers, the Walt
Disney Company refers to visitors of their theme parks as guests. This is to keep up with the show
and the storytelling of the company since Disney is inviting visitors into their home as their guests.
The second term is "cast member". Instead of calling their employees, employees, Disney refers to
their employees as cast members. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme
parks will be discussed. Walt Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his
daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry–go–round (Disney, 2009).
Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together
(Disney, 2009). Disneyland was, thus,
Conceived as a celebration of America's past and as a paean to its progress, or as Walt Disney put it:
'the older generation can recapture the nostalgia of the days gone by, and the younger generation can
savor the challenge of the future (Bryman, 1999, p.31).
As Bryman argues, Disneyland was designed to make the older generation feel nostalgic. This
feeling of nostalgia is created on Main Street, USA and Frontierland which represent America's past.
Disneyland was also created to capture the imagination of children as seen in Fantasyland and
Tomorrowland.
Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17th, 1955. Walt Disney's theme park idea soon
expanded past what he had space to build in California which prompted the building of the Walt
Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The Magic Kingdom, the first theme park built at Disney
World, opened after his death in October of 1971 (Disney, 2009). The feeling of nostalgia is
recreated and expanded in the Magic Kingdom with the addition of a land named "Liberty Square".

How Did Walt Wanted To Build Disneyland
"Walt wanted to create an amusement park in which his cartoon characters could come to life and
interact with the visitors." A place where both parent and child could have fun. So in 1955 Walt
purchased 160 acres of land in California and began the $17–million–dollar project to construct
Disneyland. His vision of how he wanted to construct Disneyland was unpretentious. He wanted the
entrance to embody a euphoric restoration of the conventional American main street. The goal was
that people would walk down "Main Street, USA" and want to discover more by going to the other 4
different "dream lands," he had creted: Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and
Tomorrowland. Fantasyland was created to be more child orientated, where all of Disney's

Descriptive Essay About Disney World
Have you ever gone to Disney World? Well I have and it was so much fun! There are different
themed areas inside of the park like, Fantasyland,, Tomorrowland, and Main Street to name a few.
Each area is like walking into a whole different place. One second you're in Fantasy Land and the
next you are in Tomorrowland.
The first thing that you see when you walk into the actual park is Magic kingdom. Magic kingdom
feels truly magical. There is a giant castle, Cinderellas castle, where you can have a royal feast with
all the princesses and look over the park during the day or night. My family had a late reservation,
and we would walk out and see the entire park light up without one single person. On our 3rd day
my mom dragged me onto the Everest ride, one I was dreading. Everest is a big mountain with a fun
scene and the most popular ride not including space mountain, but we will get to that later. Mount
Everest was so fun in the beginning i tried to back out but once we got close my mom told me that i
had to ride time ride the ride because she knew i would love it, i was just too scared.(the ride is huge
and looks really scary, so you can't blame me) The ride went up into a cave and the saw a monkey
trying to grab you because it looked like the track were broken, so he was taking on his food i guess.
At the first moment you think that you are going to go backward down the giant hill you see when
you pass it, but the secretly change paths and then you go down the giant hill

Semi Autonomous Vehicles In William Gibson's The Shining
Imagine this, Mr. Jones, a fictitious character, is flying in to visit his family in Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania. He arrives at the Pittsburgh Int'l Airport and instructs the Uber app on his phone to
ring him a ride and take him to his family's residence. A grey Ford Fusion pulls up to the curb, and
Mr. Jones notices that the roof looks like it's been taken over by a robotic parasite, cameras and
sensors festoon the once elegant design. Nevertheless he pops in his carry on luggage and gets in.
Only to find that no one is the car, just him, alone. He types in the address on the blinking iPad and
the car drives away seemingly knowing exactly where it's going. Mr. Jones is more frightened of
this trip's outcome than the first time he saw The Shining. This alarming, gut–wrenching, nervous
reaction will be quite common if tech giants win the battle for Completely Autonomous Cars (CAC).
Semi Autonomous Cars (SAC) already exist and are extremely helpful to most people. These cars
still have steering wheels, pedals, gear selectors, etc. Most importantly they can still be controlled
by humans. CAC are boxes with a bench, no controls and no emergency override. Occupants are
subjected to whatever the car decides what is best for them. While this may sound like a perfect
utopian future, it is closer to something from a Ray Bradbury book than Disney's Tomorrowland.

They used bigger blocks on the bottom and as the builders got higher and higher, smaller bricks
were used. Here one will find shops carrying merchandise like shirts, candy, backpacks, purses,
stuffed animals, and the iconic Mickey/Minnie Mouse ears. Both sites feature exquisite architecture
when it pertains to the way, the castles were built to appear bigger. In comparison of both sites,

Essay on The Life of Walt Disney
It all started in 1923 when a young man started off with one idea that lead to bigger and better ideas
as time went on. Walt Disney imagined what people thought to be the impossible and created a
Disney empire that was made up of cartoons, movies, amusement parks, and much more
entertainment. To think if Walt Disney never shared his visions with the world, there would be no
animation, amusement parks, Mickey Mouse, or any classic Disney movies like Snow White, Mary
Poppins, or Beauty and the Beast. Also, children wouldn't have gotten to experience walking
through Cinderella's Castle into Magic Kingdom, a child's oasis. Although Walt Disney is no longer

What also made Mickey Mouse very popular was that Walt Disney himself provided the voice of
Mickey until 1947. On February 23rd, 1935 the very first in color Mickey Mouse cartoon was
released. Then later in 1937, Disney Brothers Studios took a big step by creating Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the very first animated feature film with
sound and color. Disney Brothers Studio made 8 million dollars off of the release of Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs. After completing this movie entirely, Disney Brothers Studio packed up their
things on December 26th, 1939 and moved to Burbank, California from Hyperion Studio in Los
Angeles. Once settled into Burbank, California, Disney Brothers Studio started to begin a brand new
project that would put them over the top. After working diligently for almost a year finally,
Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17th, 1955. This theme park took up over
160 acres of land and provided rides, games, and pure entertainment. Weeks before the opening for
the park, six thousand invitations were mailed out for the big day. When the big day finally came,
about 28,000 ticket holders came running to the entrance to get in. When entering into the main
entrance, a big opening led straight through Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Visitors came from all over
the world to experience all the different "lands" to Disneyland Park. Disneyland Park was made up

Walt Disney Research Paper
Now, where did the Walt Disney Company go wrong? The low theme park attendance and revenues
in Paris and Hong Kong are caused by something; Disney believes they were due to poor business
decisions. However, there have been a few cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company
when they planned and designed each theme park. These missteps are interpreted, even if it is
subconscious, by the guests of the host country when they visit the park, which explains the low
attendance numbers and park revenues at each park each year. According to Altman (1995, p.14) in
"A theme park in a cultural straitjacket: The case of Disneyland Paris, France", "the underlying
assumptions behind the Disney theme parks (as all its other products) is that they are culture free."
After guests visit the international theme parks, that culture free assumption is proven wrong. Even
if it is not blatantly evident to the guest, the theme parks are inherently American in design and
operation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first misstep is the design of the theme park itself with its "themed lands". Lands such as
Tomorrowland and Fantasyland can transcend cultures, whereas, lands such as Main Street, USA,
Frontierland, and even Adventureland do not. The second misstep lies with the attractions
themselves. Some classic attractions that are popular and guest favorites in Disneyland and the
Magic Kingdom do not translate well or make sense in other cultures. The third misstep is Disney's
signature excellent guest service. While Disney's service with a smile is expected and the norm in
the United States, it can be repellent in other cultures. The last misstep is the difference in family
values and consumer culture between the United States and the host

school band and color guard went on this field trip for a performance at Disneyland .It was my 8th
grade year, it would be my last year performing at Disneyland so I had to enjoy it . We had to meet
up at school at 3:30 am because Disneyland is located in Anaheim CA and it would take us several
hours to get there. Also the teachers wanted us to be there early because they would have to take roll
call to know if everyone made it on time, and we would leave the school at 4:00 am . We got on the
buses , we knew it was going to be a long rides so the teachers decided to rent us a charter bus the
good thing was that we have had enough fundraiser to be able to go on a charter bus.The teachers
said we would only have one stop during the whole the long bus ride and that was only going to be
for us to go to the bathroom and to get some breakfast before we actually got to disneyland .After
everyone went to the bathroom and got breakfast we got in the buses and started driving again. We

Every Night At Disney Research Paper
Disney spends millions of billions to bring artistic spectacles to families worldwide across every
nationality. Walking directly in the gates I was greeted by musical bands lining the entranceway in
colorful outfits playing a wide array of instruments complimenting each other in an ensemble of
tunes. Every shop has theming and music, every ride has dramatic queues surrounded by themes,
music, and characters from various Disney films such as Buzz Lightyear, Tomorrowland and even
Lilo and Stitch. The environment gave the feeling on being in the universe Disney was trying to
convey due to the lifelike size of the buildings and characters. During the closing ceremony of every

Disney World-Personal Narrative
I never knew that I was a part of something bigger than a backup, but I turned out to be. Now the
fate of every sliver of good magic Walt Disney ever dreamed up rests on me–me and the team, I
should say. I suppose it all started, that everything changed at midnight.
I had just gone to sleep after a long day of homework when I woke up, not in my bed, but 'right
down the middle of Main Street USA'. I was standing at the flagpole facing the magnificent
Cinderella Castle. I had to stop and think a second. How was I in Disney World? Why was it so
deserted? It was practically a ghost town here in the wee hours of night. Then I turned and saw a boy
sitting on the bench. I was certainly taken aback by the appearance of someone else. He motioned
toward me and as I came closer, I soon recognized him. It was that smart British kid who could do
things with a computer most adults wouldn't understand. It was Dell Philby.
"So you're the extra, aren't you?" he said as I approached the bench.
"Extra what?" I stuttered, still perplexed by this whole situation. ... Show more content on

We all crammed into a car and the ride took off. I heard the voice I knew so well from riding this a
hundred times. I relaxed like any average park guest would until I felt the sudden jerk of the car into
Space Mountain. I waited for my favorite line of the ride, where they paged Mr. Tom Morrow, but it
never came. A new voice came through the loudspeakers. "Ladies and gentleman, Keepers and
Fairlies! This is your captain speaking. We're experiencing a few delays, some new twists and turns.
Hold onto your hats, because you're about to learn who really is the Main Attraction!
Mwahahahahahaha!" the voice said. I noticed Drina and Wil wince at the term Fairlie, but there was
no time to ponder that. The worst of it was the voice itself. This voice was the reason Elastigirl
would be interested in this ride. This voice belonged to the one and only

A Person Who Cares My Friend
A Person Who Cares I am a person who cares deeply about my friend. If anything happens to my
friend, I will do anything I help him. I have one true friend, his name is Ryan, who helps me greatly
as I help him. Being with him is different than being with my other friend. It is because I can be
honest about my feelings with him. Being a friend with him has sometimes gotten me into unusual
situation. For example, I lost my friend in Disneyland and to find him again, to climb a rope with
my wrist sprained, and to care about a person's pride. I was with Ryan and Daniel in Disneyland.
After we rode the Space Mountain, we headed out to eat lunch. "Hey," Ryan asked me, "where is
Daniel?" "I don't know," I said to him, "he was here just a moment ago." "Should we go and find
him?" Ryan said. "No," I told him, "let's wait for a few minutes." We waited for five minutes but we
didn't see Daniel. We figured that Daniel was near where we were and went to eat lunch. "Shouldn't
we look for him?" I said to Ryan. "No," Ryan said to me, "he'll be okay. And besides we're hungry."
After we ate our lunch quickly, we went to the Space Mountain again to find him. We looked for
him for about ten minutes and we realized that he might have gone off to another place to look for
us. "We should go find a teacher and report to them that Daniel is missing," I told Ryan. As we went
to find a teacher, we saw someone familiar walking towards us. The person who was walking

Walt Disney 's Theme Park
July 17, 1955, marked the grand opening of Walt Disney's first major theme park opening. Since
1955, Walt Disney's idea of a theme park has adapted to more than just a carnival.
Currently there are six Disney theme parks worldwide. The United States holds two theme parks,
Disneyland Park in California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. China also holds two
theme parks, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Shanghai. While, Japan and Paris only hold
one theme park, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Each new Disney park strives to be
unique, create fun attractions and serve cuisine that appeal to the citizens of its location but remain
consistently classic.

Regular tickets are one hundred and seven dollars. Value ticket prices are ninety–nine dollars and
peak ticket prices are one hundred and nineteen dollars. Surprisingly, regular ticket prices at Disney

Disneyland Hong Kong has seven themed lands. Similarly to Disneyland Anaheim, Adventureland,
Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Main Street USA are all feature themed lands at Disneyland Hong
Kong. In contrast Grizzly Gulch, Mystic point and Toy Story Land are newly created lands. Dumbo
the Flying Elephant and Sleeping Beauty's castle are classic attractions. However, Slinky Dog Spin
and RC Racer are new attractions that still remain consistent with the theme of other Walt Disney
parks.
Significantly lower than both Disneyland Anaheim and Disney World, Disneyland Hong Kong has
twenty–four restaurants. Another notable difference is the style of cuisine which is primarily
Chinese or Asian.
Also, ticket pricing varies by age. General admission tickets for ages twelve to sixty–four are five

Events Industry's Impact on Regional Development
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the
statement 'The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional
development'. The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an
understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also
providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event
industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize
and justify the event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event

Walt Disney Impact
Walt Disney, and his company's, history with urban planning had an unexpected start. Disneyland's
Main Street, U.S.A., among one of the amusement park's more ambitious "lands" (and one close to
Walt Disney's heart), inadvertently acted as a model for urban planning at the time of its opening
and for years to come. While Tomorrowland was actually set in the future, it was Main Street,
U.S.A. that first served as the model for real cities in designing their downtown and entertainment
areas. The "land" successfully blended a small town–like setting with amenities often found in large
cities, even in its small scale, and became a basis for the most exhaustive park at Walt Disney
World: EPCOT Center (and later, simply Epcot). The impact of urban planning at Epcot is seen
immediately, as unlike the "lands" and other theme parks at Disney World, there is no entrance. This
seems like a minor detail, but it has the effect of a record scratch, in that it breaks away from the ...

Not only was the park supposed to serve as an escape from reality, but in the same vein as the
previous "lands" and parks, it was meant to influence the real world. While the actual Epcot product
represented a time that was yet to exist, had Walt Disney's initial plans not fallen through, the park
would simultaneously keep visitors trapped in a world that a large part of the country was trying to
let go of ("a paternalistic company town" as worded by Detweiler in the essay Hyperurbanity).
Disney couldn't quite figure out how to let go of his old ideals and move completely into the future,
with his initial plan for Epcot (a fully functioning city of "tomorrow") already being based on
outdated design. Having to scrap that idea, he settled for a space–age vision of the future,
incorporating the pre–existing Disney World monorail system (circling the park's landmark,

Disneyland is only made up of two. Disneyland opened its doors to the public in 1955, located in
Anaheim, California. It included features such as: Sleeping Beauty's castle, eighteen attractions, one
resort hotel and the very first monorail system in the eastern hemisphere. Whereas Walt Disney
World opened its doors in 1971, located in Orlando, Florida; featuring things such like Cinderella's
castle, fifteen attractions and two resort hotels. Some similarities are: both places allow you to
participate in the Disney College Program, both are Walt Disney's dreams becoming real, the
different themes in the main parks, some of the rides and pin trading. When Disneyland opened it
rested on an 85–acre property, and only had about eighteen attractions. However, some of the rides
featured on opening day are the most iconic ones still running in both locations. On the first day the
opened the doors, thousands of people began rushing into the parks to see Walt Disney's dreams
become a reality. Upon walking in, guests were overwhelmed with all these magical ideas coming to
life. Sleeping Beauty's Castle stands 70+ feet tall at the entrance of the park, however it does seem
to be bigger, due to the kind of architecture they used. They used bigger blocks on the bottom and as

Personal Narrative : A Trip To Tomorrowland
It was the morning of October 8th, 2016. I was only a few hours away from officially turning
seventeen years old. We had decided to head over to Disneyland to celebrate such an occasion. So at
about 8:15 or so, we took off in Dad's Chevy Cruze to make our merry way there. And the whole
time we were on the 101 Freeway, my heart was thumping furiously with pure joy and excitement.
"I am assuming you'll want to be in Tomorrowland first?", my parents asked me. "Uh, yeah", I
simply stated, since Tomorrowland is almost like a second home for me. And on top of that, it was
to be my second time seeing all the new Star Wars themed additions that had been recently added.
My brain ran WILD with ideas about what I would do upon meeting some of the characters from
that universe. I would be ecstatic upon seeing characters like Boba Fett and Darth Vader since I've
always been a fan of the dark side.
"Thankfully the traffic is not that bad this morning!", we all seemed to agree on. The ride there was
nice and smooth like a stick of butter and as a result, we had almost no trouble at all getting there.
Even when we were in the parking structure, we didn't really have any trouble finding a place to
park. We eventually found a parking spot at the very top of the parking structure and proceeded to
make our way to the tram. But unlike the parking structure, the line for the tram was a whole
different story.

Comparing Tomorrowland, Produced And Directed By Brad Bird
Introduction One idea can influence the world, but how far can that idea go if it is spread by one
person? Could an idea also present a reality better than the one humanity is accustomed to today?
The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as
well as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future.
Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager
who seems to be one of the only people in the world with the desire to find positive ways to affect
the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything
bad that can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate
version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind creates technologies surpassing those of the
real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey's world is in trouble and that they must go to
Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a
pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He shows Casey one of his inventions in his
home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to accept
what Frank's machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey might
be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her and Athena to Tomorrowland. There,
Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland,

This insinuates that the text is not intended for a mature, adult mind, but rather for a younger
generation who might yet still read those types of stories. In this way, the text becomes more

moreover, follows the outline of "wishes": in the first chapter, "we" (the audience and the narrator
collectively), wish for power. In the second, we wish for food and health. In the third, we wish for
the atom to be our friend. This concept of friendship, intertwined with the childhood fantasy of
making wishes come true, makes the text more relatable and thereby more understandable to young
audiences (Haber). The prospect of an intended audience is pertinent due to the policy perspective
Haber and Disney are trying to convey. In fact, Our Friend the Atom is merely a method for
indoctrination in terms of soothing the public after the event of the nuclear bombings. The text
describes an end to poverty, world hunger, and a chance for peace by embracing the power of the
atom; it does so by presenting a historical context of the atom, an analogous overview of the
problem, and then describing the benefits of atomic

Teenage Wasteland By Thomas Hine
Teenagers: A Threat to Adults
A common phrase that adults can testify to hearing from any given teenager is, "You don't
understand!" This proves a struggle between the youth and the adults that quite possibly is never–
ending. Adults make assumptions about kids, based on the way they dress, which pushes kids further
and further away. In the essay, "Goths in Tomorrowland" by Thomas Hine (2001), he emphasizes
the beliefs that adults began the idea of youth alienation from older societies and the teenagers keep
it that way. Donna Gaine's (2001) essay, "Teenage Wasteland," discusses four teenagers who were
mocked and misunderstood by adults and reporters alike. Jon Katz (2001) lets the kids explain
themselves about their seclusion from society and the misconceptions about them in his column,
"More from the Hellmouth: Kids Tell About Rage." The fear that elders show towards young people
is merely a fear of the unknown. Adults are worried about the younger generations because of their
misunderstandings of the youth culture, their failure to accept youth into the adult society, and the
instigation provoked from young people.
Misunderstanding of youth creates the gap between adults and teenagers. Many teenagers spend
their whole teen experience searching for someone to just understand them. A lot of them do not
even make it through this experience because they give up feeling that no one knows what they are
going through. Parents also fear for their kids because they do not

Social Media Essay
Topic 2: How do you think Social Media are shaping demand for Events and the Event Experience?
Use examples to illustrate your argument. Social media can be clearly defined by breaking down
these two words. Media is an instrument of communications towards the world, for example,
newspapers, magazines, radios and televisions. Social would be the interaction between one human
being to another. Therefore if we put them together, social media would means an interaction
between one to another through an instrument of communication. Social media is the main source of

When the society have little knowledge and exposure to the event, it certainly does not arose their
curiosity and interest into attending one. But as the society move towards the newer technologies,
there is a larger scale of sharing experiences through social media for instants, posting reviews,
pictures and videos on their social network applications. With this amount of information available,
people are then exposed to more events that might attract them into participating in one. For
example, in 2012, the tickets for one of the largest music festival hosted in Belgium, Tomorrowland,
was sold out in matter of seconds to 2 million people after 30 million people have viewed the
Tomorrowland 2011' after movie' (getin, 2012). This is a good example that shows the significant
growth in demand for events through social media publicity. With many celebrities participating in
social media posting such as twitter, fans have more live updates on what are their favourite
celebrities schedule like to as to raise awareness of the upcoming events the celebrities are holding,
for example, Kpop company releasing news of activities such as autographing session or the release
conference of Kpop stars' new album through SNS are one effective ways to draw demands to such

Tomorrowland Research Paper
The rising sun shined brightly on the glimmering blue and white castle that stood down the long, red
pathway. Fresh popped popcorn lingered in the air, little boys and girls running around with plastic
pirate swords and princess crowns. My moms dark, brown braided hair swayed side to side with
every step she took catching my attention. A group of men wearing different color striped vests
singing to familiar tunes, it seemed as if they were warming up for a broadway production. That was
when a loud speaker overhead started blaring a magical tune. Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald
hopped onto stage singing to the beat of the music. Eventually Mickey jumped onto stage allowing
for the castle party to begin. Heading to Tomorrowland toward the end of the show made me feel
even more excitement. How much excitement can one person contain? ... Show more content on

The robotic tunes and bright lights ran throughout the themed land. That was when loud buzzing
went off shifting everyones attentions to look up. Rockets! The rockets lifted as they began moving
in circles following the others. My dad, brother and I walked towards one of our favorite attractions
Space Mountain. Seeing our shadows that lingered in front of us, made it seem as if we were actual
astronauts ready to walk into our very own space shuttle. We walked through the long tunnel playing
the queue games they offered in line. Once boarded into the shuttle we were not afraid to yell and
scream at all the sudden hills and turns. Let's just say the ride was out of this

Walt Disney Company And Its International Theme Parks

  • 1. Walt Disney Company And Its International Theme Parks Before discussing the cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company (TWDC) at their international theme parks, a quick overview of the company and its international theme parks will be given. The Walt Disney Company is an entertainment conglomerate with business divisions in movies, television, radio, theater, publishing, and theme parks. Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme parks will be discussed. Walt Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry–go–round (Disney, 2009). Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together (Disney, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tokyo Disneyland Tokyo Disneyland (TDL) was the Walt Disney Company's first attempt at planning and developing an international theme park. In the 1970's after Walt Disney's death, the Walt Disney Company was not doing well financially when the Oriental Land Company (OLC) approached the company about opening a theme park in Tokyo. The Oriental Land Company, according to Raz (1999), author of Riding the Black Ship: Japan and Tokyo Disneyland, is a partnership between two large firms in Japan, the Mitsui Real Estate Development and Keisei Electric Railway (p.4). The Walt Disney Company was hesitant to open a new theme park in its current financial state, but the OLC offered them a deal that was hard to resist. The Oriental Land Company would own and operate the Tokyo Disneyland while the Walt Disney Company would receive "10 percent of admissions fees and 5 percent of the revenues from food and souvenir sales" (Raz, 1999, p. 27). The Walt Disney Company also received licensing fees up to 20 million dollars for their characters, attractions, and more, as well as control over the design of the park and control of park operations (Raz, 1999, p. 27; Eisner & Schwartz, 1998, p.263). Although the deal seemed alluring at the time, the Walt Disney Company would soon come to regret the deal they made with the Oriental Land Company. Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15th, 1983 and is described as "a carbon copy of its American counterparts" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Two Differences Of Disneyland And Walt Disney World Although Disneyland and Walt Disney World are Walt Disney's ideas being portrayed, the two parks have quite a few differences along with the vast amount of similarities. Disneyland cut the ceremonial ribbon in 1955 and is located in Anaheim, California. It included features such as Sleeping Beauty Castle, eighteen attractions, one resort hotel, and a monorail system. On the other hand, Walt Disney World, located in Orlando, Florida, opened its doors in 1971. It featured Cinderella Castle, fifteen attractions, and two resort hotels when it initially opened. Some similarities between the two are that both places allow you to participate in the Disney College Program, both are Walt Disney's dreams coming to life, both have some of the same themes and rides in the main parks, and both have pin trading. For example, Disney World is comprised of four parks, whereas Disneyland is only made up of two. In contrast, the two parks have different amounts and varieties of parks, hotels, restaurants and things to see or do. When Disneyland opened, it rested on an 85–acre property and only had about eighteen attractions. However, some of the rides featured on opening day are the most iconic ones still running in both locations. On the first day they opened the doors, thousands of people began rushing into the parks to see Walt Disney's dreams become a reality. Upon walking in, guests were overwhelmed with all the magic come to life. Sleeping Beauty Castle towers over the entrance of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Googie: American Retro-Futurism Of The 1960's Googie architecture design was named after a coffee shop, Googie in Las Angeles by John Lautner's. Googie happened after WWII and was a definable style the culture to a liking to. It was American retro–futurism of the 1950's and 1960's, this is when America had a lot of money. The style continued for about 25 years. Googie architecture was meant to catch peoples eye as they drove by. Having neon, glass atomic imagery and upswept roofs. The design gets its inspiration from the space age. Alan Hess an architect and historian says. Figure 1– House and Home Magazine Feb 1952 pg.86 "Googie was an unpretentious aesthetic meant to appeal to the average, middle– class American:" One of the key things about Googie architecture was that it wasn't custom houses for wealthy people – it was for coffee shops, gas stations, car washes, banks... the average buildings of everyday life that people of that period used and lived in. And it brought that spirit of the modern age to their daily lives." (Novak, Matt) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Googie is also seen in cartoons like The Jetsons, amusements parks like Tomorrowland at Disneyland, advertisements, and magazines. Googie was not only seen in southern California but also seen in Texas, Michigan, New Jersey, Seattle, and Florida. (Novak, Matt) At the Las Angeles airport, you can see Theme Building built in 1961 by architects William Pereira and Charles Luckman, the intended design, was that it was going to be the main ticketing area for the airport, with its 135 foot supporting steel arches. the building use to have a restaurant in it called Encounter, but has been closed and now the observation deck is the only thing that remains ... • 7. The Mega Conglomerate, Disney, Walt Disney History The mega conglomerate, Disney, began in 1923 with two men and one cartoon, Alice In Wonderland. From 1988 to present day Disney Pictures has released some of the most successful films in Hollywood. Disney's most iconic and memorable titles include, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast. Disney has pushed the boundaries of the film industry since its beginning with the production of the first full length animation film, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, as well as the release of their first live action film, Treasure Island. After the death of Roy and Walt Disney, the company only continued to grow. Robert Iger was named chief executive officer in 2005. Currently, Disney owns Walt Disney Animation ... Including international gross the film made over $70 million opening weekend and made their $95 million budget in the second week. In total, Cinderella has made $438,036,467 worldwide. With a large part of the target audience being female children, the cast, including, Lily James and Richard Madden, was fairly unknown to them. The seven minute Frozen Fever short at the beginning of the film, based of the extremely popular animation Frozen, may have been a drawing factor for crowds to see Cinderella. Although Cinderella had one of the biggest debuts of the year, its numbers fell short of what was expected by Disney. The lower figures means the new film fell behind Disney's last live–action remake, Maleficent. Monkey Kingdom The Disneynature film, is set in South Asia and follows the story of the macaques monkey, Maya. With a new son, Kip, and her longtime home, Castle Rock, being taken over, Maya has to relocate and work hard to get back her home and establish a good future for her son. • 9. Walt Disney 's Influence On The Entertainment Industry Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a whole new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he pushed on and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney's way such as unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating, working hard, and persevering to accomplish his dream. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Elias, was a carpenter when Walt was born. Eventually, Elias and his wife, Flora, saved up enough money to start a home building company together. Walter had four siblings: Roy, Herbert, Raymond, and Ruth (Russell 9). Because Ruth was younger than Walt, Walt waited until the age of seven to start school so that he could start at the same time as Ruth. Before he went to school, his mother, Flora, taught him how to read (Russell 10). Walt grew up on the Disney family farm and worked hard on the farm. He worked at the neighbor's farm– raising corn, wheat, barley, cows, pigs, and chickens (Giltin 18). Later, Elias grew sick, and the Disney's had to sell the farm. They moved to Kansas City (Russell 11). Throughout Walter's schooling, he loved to be on stage– directing, producing, and being on stage (Russell 11). Many things inspired Walt Disney's creativity: moving, roaming, playing in the farmyard, fishing, doodling in class, and editing the school newspaper are just a few ... • 13. Dystopian And Other Science Fiction Genres Dystopian and other science fiction genres literature often critique society in meaningful ways that give the novels greater depth than might be expected of books written for younger audiences. Recently, "dystopian novels set in some dark, post–nuclear fallout future have dominated the young adult–better known as YA–bestseller lists" (Donston–Miller). The line between age groups in some of these novels also blur as adults latch on the increasingly complex themes and characters in modern science fiction for young adults. Adult may become just as interested in the struggles of Katniss Everdeen as any teenager might. When those lines blur it can be harder for authors and publishers to draw lines of what should and shouldn't be included in young adult literature. They may expect to be writing to a much wider audience and may find it allowable to insert darker themes and endings to make a point. As this continues, doors seemed to have been opened for young adult literature to become darker over time. Just as the movie Tomorrowland points out, dystopian media has been on the rise and people are thriving off of it. The trend might also be increasing the acceptance of darkness in media for youth in this way. The problems presented in dystopian literature are also things that are becoming more and more relatable to people of all ages while the world experiences new dangers daily. According to some young adult authors such as Todd Mitchell, darker science fiction themes may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. General Definitions. Before Going Into The Background Of General Definitions Before going into the background of the Walt Disney Company and its theme parks, it is necessary to define some terms that are used throughout the paper. These terms are defined as the researcher understands them as a former cast member of the Walt Disney Company. The first term that needs to be defined is "guest". Instead of calling people who visit their theme parks customers, the Walt Disney Company refers to visitors of their theme parks as guests. This is to keep up with the show and the storytelling of the company since Disney is inviting visitors into their home as their guests. The second term is "cast member". Instead of calling their employees, employees, Disney refers to their employees as cast members. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme parks will be discussed. Walt Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry–go–round (Disney, 2009). Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together (Disney, 2009). Disneyland was, thus, Conceived as a celebration of America's past and as a paean to its progress, or as Walt Disney put it: 'the older generation can recapture the nostalgia of the days gone by, and the younger generation can savor the challenge of the future (Bryman, 1999, p.31). As Bryman argues, Disneyland was designed to make the older generation feel nostalgic. This feeling of nostalgia is created on Main Street, USA and Frontierland which represent America's past. Disneyland was also created to capture the imagination of children as seen in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17th, 1955. Walt Disney's theme park idea soon expanded past what he had space to build in California which prompted the building of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The Magic Kingdom, the first theme park built at Disney World, opened after his death in October of 1971 (Disney, 2009). • 17. How Did Walt Wanted To Build Disneyland "Walt wanted to create an amusement park in which his cartoon characters could come to life and interact with the visitors." A place where both parent and child could have fun. So in 1955 Walt purchased 160 acres of land in California and began the $17–million–dollar project to construct Disneyland. His vision of how he wanted to construct Disneyland was unpretentious. He wanted the entrance to embody a euphoric restoration of the conventional American main street. The goal was that people would walk down "Main Street, USA" and want to discover more by going to the other 4 different "dream lands," he had creted: Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland. • 19. Descriptive Essay About Disney World Have you ever gone to Disney World? Well I have and it was so much fun! There are different themed areas inside of the park like, Fantasyland,, Tomorrowland, and Main Street to name a few. Each area is like walking into a whole different place. One second you're in Fantasy Land and the next you are in Tomorrowland. The first thing that you see when you walk into the actual park is Magic kingdom. Magic kingdom feels truly magical. There is a giant castle, Cinderellas castle, where you can have a royal feast with all the princesses and look over the park during the day or night. My family had a late reservation, and we would walk out and see the entire park light up without one single person. On our 3rd day my mom dragged me onto the Everest ride, one I was dreading. Everest is a big mountain with a fun scene and the most popular ride not including space mountain, but we will get to that later. Mount Everest was so fun in the beginning i tried to back out but once we got close my mom told me that i had to ride time ride the ride because she knew i would love it, i was just too scared.(the ride is huge and looks really scary, so you can't blame me) The ride went up into a cave and the saw a monkey trying to grab you because it looked like the track were broken, so he was taking on his food i guess. At the first moment you think that you are going to go backward down the giant hill you see when you pass it, but the secretly change paths and then you go down the giant hill ... He arrives at the Pittsburgh Int'l Airport and instructs the Uber app on his phone to ring him a ride and take him to his family's residence. A grey Ford Fusion pulls up to the curb, and Mr. Jones notices that the roof looks like it's been taken over by a robotic parasite, cameras and sensors festoon the once elegant design. Nevertheless he pops in his carry on luggage and gets in. Only to find that no one is the car, just him, alone. He types in the address on the blinking iPad and the car drives away seemingly knowing exactly where it's going. Mr. Jones is more frightened of this trip's outcome than the first time he saw The Shining. This alarming, gut–wrenching, nervous reaction will be quite common if tech giants win the battle for Completely Autonomous Cars (CAC). Semi Autonomous Cars (SAC) already exist and are extremely helpful to most people. These cars still have steering wheels, pedals, gear selectors, etc. Most importantly they can still be controlled by humans. CAC are boxes with a bench, no controls and no emergency override. Occupants are subjected to whatever the car decides what is best for them. While this may sound like a perfect utopian future, it is closer to something from a Ray Bradbury book than Disney's Tomorrowland. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Two Differences Of Disneyland And Walt Disney World Although Disneyland and Walt Disney World (WDW) are Walt Disney's ideas being portrayed, the two parks have quite a few differences along with a vast amount of similarities. For example, Disney World is comprised of four parks, whereas Disneyland is only made up of two. Some similarities between the two are that they allow you to participate in the Disney College Program, both are Walt Disney's dreams coming to life, the entertainment of the guests, and pin trading. In contrast, the two parks have different amounts and varieties of parks, hotels, restaurants, fastpasses, and entertainment. Sleeping Beauty Castle towers over the entrance of the park at seventy feet high; however it does seem to be bigger due to the architecture they used. They used bigger blocks on the bottom and as the builders got higher and higher, smaller bricks were used. Here one will find shops carrying merchandise like shirts, candy, backpacks, purses, stuffed animals, and the iconic Mickey/Minnie Mouse ears. Both sites feature exquisite architecture when it pertains to the way, the castles were built to appear bigger. In comparison of both sites, Main Street is the road that starts at the beginning of the park and stretches to the castle. Disneyland is divided up into four different themes, a few of them being Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. Each section has rides that go along with the theme. • 25. Essay on The Life of Walt Disney It all started in 1923 when a young man started off with one idea that lead to bigger and better ideas as time went on. Walt Disney imagined what people thought to be the impossible and created a Disney empire that was made up of cartoons, movies, amusement parks, and much more entertainment. To think if Walt Disney never shared his visions with the world, there would be no animation, amusement parks, Mickey Mouse, or any classic Disney movies like Snow White, Mary Poppins, or Beauty and the Beast. What also made Mickey Mouse very popular was that Walt Disney himself provided the voice of Mickey until 1947. On February 23rd, 1935 the very first in color Mickey Mouse cartoon was released. Disney Brothers Studio made 8 million dollars off of the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After completing this movie entirely, Disney Brothers Studio packed up their things on December 26th, 1939 and moved to Burbank, California from Hyperion Studio in Los Angeles. Once settled into Burbank, California, Disney Brothers Studio started to begin a brand new project that would put them over the top. After working diligently for almost a year finally, Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17th, 1955. This theme park took up over 160 acres of land and provided rides, games, and pure entertainment. Weeks before the opening for the park, six thousand invitations were mailed out for the big day. • 29. Walt Disney Research Paper Now, where did the Walt Disney Company go wrong? The low theme park attendance and revenues in Paris and Hong Kong are caused by something; Disney believes they were due to poor business decisions. However, there have been a few cultural missteps taken by the Walt Disney Company when they planned and designed each theme park. These missteps are interpreted, even if it is subconscious, by the guests of the host country when they visit the park, which explains the low attendance numbers and park revenues at each park each year. According to Altman (1995, p.14) in "A theme park in a cultural straitjacket: The case of Disneyland Paris, France", "the underlying assumptions behind the Disney theme parks (as all its other products) is that they are culture free." After guests visit the international theme parks, that culture free assumption is proven wrong. Some classic attractions that are popular and guest favorites in Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom do not translate well or make sense in other cultures. • 53. Walt Disney Impact Walt Disney, and his company's, history with urban planning had an unexpected start. Disneyland's Main Street, U.S.A., among one of the amusement park's more ambitious "lands" (and one close to Walt Disney's heart), inadvertently acted as a model for urban planning at the time of its opening and for years to come. While Tomorrowland was actually set in the future, it was Main Street, U.S.A. that first served as the model for real cities in designing their downtown and entertainment areas. The "land" successfully blended a small town–like setting with amenities often found in large cities, even in its small scale, and became a basis for the most exhaustive park at Walt Disney World: EPCOT Center (and later, simply Epcot). The impact of urban planning at Epcot is seen immediately, as unlike the "lands" and other theme parks at Disney World, there is no entrance. This seems like a minor detail, but it has the effect of a record scratch, in that it breaks away from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only was the park supposed to serve as an escape from reality, but in the same vein as the previous "lands" and parks, it was meant to influence the real world. While the actual Epcot product represented a time that was yet to exist, had Walt Disney's initial plans not fallen through, the park would simultaneously keep visitors trapped in a world that a large part of the country was trying to let go of ("a paternalistic company town" as worded by Detweiler in the essay Hyperurbanity). Disney couldn't quite figure out how to let go of his old ideals and move completely into the future, with his initial plan for Epcot (a fully functioning city of "tomorrow") already being based on outdated design. Having to scrap that idea, he settled for a space–age vision of the future, incorporating the pre–existing Disney World monorail system (circling the park's landmark, Spaceship ... • 55. Comparing Two Differences In Disney And Disneyland And... Although both parks are Walt Disney's ideas being portrayed, Disneyland has quite a few differences from Walt Disney World. For example, Disney World is comprised of four parks whereas Disneyland is only made up of two. Disneyland opened its doors to the public in 1955, located in Anaheim, California. It included features such as: Sleeping Beauty's castle, eighteen attractions, one resort hotel and the very first monorail system in the eastern hemisphere. Whereas Walt Disney World opened its doors in 1971, located in Orlando, Florida; featuring things such like Cinderella's castle, fifteen attractions and two resort hotels. Some similarities are: both places allow you to participate in the Disney College Program, both are Walt Disney's dreams becoming real, the different themes in the main parks, some of the rides and pin trading. When Disneyland opened it rested on an 85–acre property, and only had about eighteen attractions. However, some of the rides featured on opening day are the most iconic ones still running in both locations. On the first day the opened the doors, thousands of people began rushing into the parks to see Walt Disney's dreams become a reality. Upon walking in, guests were overwhelmed with all these magical ideas coming to life. Sleeping Beauty's Castle stands 70+ feet tall at the entrance of the park, however it does seem to be bigger, due to the kind of architecture they used. • 59. Personal Narrative : A Trip To Tomorrowland It was the morning of October 8th, 2016. I was only a few hours away from officially turning seventeen years old. We had decided to head over to Disneyland to celebrate such an occasion. So at about 8:15 or so, we took off in Dad's Chevy Cruze to make our merry way there. And the whole time we were on the 101 Freeway, my heart was thumping furiously with pure joy and excitement. "I am assuming you'll want to be in Tomorrowland first?", my parents asked me. "Uh, yeah", I simply stated, since Tomorrowland is almost like a second home for me. And on top of that, it was to be my second time seeing all the new Star Wars themed additions that had been recently added. My brain ran WILD with ideas about what I would do upon meeting some of the characters from that universe. I would be ecstatic upon seeing characters like Boba Fett and Darth Vader since I've always been a fan of the dark side. "Thankfully the traffic is not that bad this morning!", we all seemed to agree on. The ride there was nice and smooth like a stick of butter and as a result, we had almost no trouble at all getting there. Even when we were in the parking structure, we didn't really have any trouble finding a place to park. We eventually found a parking spot at the very top of the parking structure and proceeded to make our way to the tram. But unlike the parking structure, the line for the tram was a whole different story. "You excited?", my mom asked me while we stood in the line for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Comparing Tomorrowland, Produced And Directed By Brad Bird Introduction One idea can influence the world, but how far can that idea go if it is spread by one person? Could an idea also present a reality better than the one humanity is accustomed to today? The 2015 film Tomorrowland attempts to reveal the answers to these questions in the real world as well as in an alternate dimension where humanity has a different outlook on the future. Tomorrowland, produced and directed by Brad Bird, follows Casey and Frank. Casey is a teenager who seems to be one of the only people in the world with the desire to find positive ways to affect the future. Everyone around her, from her father to her teachers, are complacent towards anything bad that can affect them. She is approached by the robot Athena, who introduces her to an alternate version of reality called Tomorrowland, where mankind creates technologies surpassing those of the real world by centuries. Athena explains that Casey's world is in trouble and that they must go to Tomorrowland to save it. In order to get there, Casey and Athena need help from Frank, a pessimistic recluse who used to live in Tomorrowland. He shows Casey one of his inventions in his home that predicts the world will end with 100% certainty. However, when Casey refuses to accept what Frank's machine says, the 100% chance briefly drops. This convinces Frank that Casey might be able to save the planet from catastrophe, and takes her and Athena to Tomorrowland. There, Casey finds out that everyone in Tomorrowland, ... In terms of nuclear power, the journey is still ensuing. Has progress been made? Yes. Have policies been formulated? Yes. Has a vast deal of information been researched? Yes. And yet, the learning continues, and it will be a never–ending process that depends upon harnessing, refining, and innovating nuclear energy and technology. In this way, the text becomes more engaging, captivating younger minds while still informing them about atomic power. In the third, we wish for the atom to be our friend. This concept of friendship, intertwined with the childhood fantasy of making wishes come true, makes the text more relatable and thereby more understandable to young audiences (Haber). The prospect of an intended audience is pertinent due to the policy perspective Haber and Disney are trying to convey. In fact, Our Friend the Atom is merely a method for indoctrination in terms of soothing the public after the event of the nuclear bombings. • 73. Teenage Wasteland By Thomas Hine Teenagers: A Threat to Adults A common phrase that adults can testify to hearing from any given teenager is, "You don't understand!" This proves a struggle between the youth and the adults that quite possibly is never– ending. Adults make assumptions about kids, based on the way they dress, which pushes kids further and further away. In the essay, "Goths in Tomorrowland" by Thomas Hine (2001), he emphasizes the beliefs that adults began the idea of youth alienation from older societies and the teenagers keep it that way. Donna Gaine's (2001) essay, "Teenage Wasteland," discusses four teenagers who were mocked and misunderstood by adults and reporters alike. Jon Katz (2001) lets the kids explain themselves about their seclusion from society and the misconceptions about them in his column, "More from the Hellmouth: Kids Tell About Rage." The fear that elders show towards young people is merely a fear of the unknown. Adults are worried about the younger generations because of their misunderstandings of the youth culture, their failure to accept youth into the adult society, and the instigation provoked from young people. Misunderstanding of youth creates the gap between adults and teenagers. Many teenagers spend their whole teen experience searching for someone to just understand them. A lot of them do not even make it through this experience because they give up feeling that no one knows what they are going through. Parents also fear for their kids because they do not ... Social media can be clearly defined by breaking down these two words. Media is an instrument of communications towards the world, for example, newspapers, magazines, radios and televisions. Social would be the interaction between one human being to another. But as the society move towards the newer technologies, there is a larger scale of sharing experiences through social media for instants, posting reviews, pictures and videos on their social network applications. With this amount of information available, people are then exposed to more events that might attract them into participating in one. For example, in 2012, the tickets for one of the largest music festival hosted in Belgium, Tomorrowland, was sold out in matter of seconds to 2 million people after 30 million people have viewed the Tomorrowland 2011' after movie' (getin, 2012).
